Like krill, crabs are likely corrupted light creatures. Salem & I hold the tbeory that they’re corrupted jellyfish, but I digress. Whether they are or not, you’ll notice that hostile crabs have darkness flakes or, in the case of shard crabs, have corrupted darkstone on their shell. Meanwhile passive crabs don’t have flakes or darkstone. You’ll also notice that passive crabs are usually in spots with a lot of light such as the island in Sanctuary under sunlight or beside the graveyard bonfire. Darkness may predate on light, yet it can’t stand direct light, for instance plants melting under our flames.

So hostile crabs I deem to have “darkness rabies,” the flakes of darkness antagonizing them by sucking on their light. Direct light may purge the darkness and renders them passive.

This is really more of a headcanon with only the position of Vault Elder to back it up, but I think that the Elders gathered one last time to not fix the diamond (they already knew it was malfunctioning and it couldn't be fixed) to tweak it to instead take in memories, as a sort of preservation method for when the darkstone diamond exploded

If you wanna go deeper, I find that pretty interesting tho. Some people can't fathom not having a villain, so they latch onto the elders or the king as more or less conflicted villains ("King was corrupted by dark stone", "Prairie Elder was forced to hand over light creatures from their realm", "Vault was in on it in a mad scientist way", stuff like that) so the downfall of the kingdom is more black and white and easier to digest. Which I don't really mind when they don't claim to have the best theories, Sky is meant to be a sandbox and sometimes it's just more fun to have your skykids stand alone separate from the deeper tones in this world, to each their own.

But TGC stated they want to challenge the hero's journey, and I much prefer seeing it as more grey, looking at the failed hero's journey theory, or the train of thought that instead of being one big explosion, the downfall was due to many tiny things at once and one more becomes the straw that breaks the camel's back. Gives way to very interesting convos, but it makes it grating when someone shows up confident a single group is evil and the cause of everything wrong.

sorry I don’t know what came over me, but YEAH I AGREE WITH THIS CONCEPT and I think the failed hero’s journey interpretation of the disaster has got to be one of my favorites;
i very rarely see a world built around the consequences of what would happen if a hero failed (I can only name one more piece of media about it off the top of my head) and so it’s always really interesting when it happens

But yeah. It's just that we all have different ways of consuming the game, but some aren't aware their view can be shallow because lbr evil kings of darkness look really really cool. And when people come in assuming this is all true, it gets on the nerves of people that want to talk about deeper themes, such as Sky reflecting the real world, with the first step to things going bad being a disconnect and apathy between communities and between ancestors and their environment, just like irl, some groups of folks rely on your apathy to gain power or do harmful things to other people or the environment.

It's all lighthearted, petty at worse tho. The resh divorce memes are just meant as jokes to make fun of the king that was often made to be an evil mastermind in a good chunk of fan creations.

So like I find it intersting that the forest caves were like FILLED with power diamonds/dark-stone and we auctally got a look on what the ores look like when they were raw too

But to me it also shows that the safety in place was like next to nothing. Tearful miners memory could’ve been a freak accident but now with Mindful miners memory I think either the demand was so high for this mineral that many spirits ignored the proper regulations, or either forest elder just, never placed any serious restrictions

This kind of parallel might seems a bit farfetched at first, but in an Old Beta video it was shown as things like the Elder's tombstones try to hints such kind of subtle messages. In the video it was specifically about Wasteland Elder (Dusk) who you met in the cutscene much like we do while sitting in front of their altar now, but once the cutscene was over the tombstone was split in half with the top half missing. This part was scrapped somrwhere along the development, but there still is a long diagonal crack on that tombstone in live version

Tell me about it! Ever since Sanctuary I wondered and hoped it could be the exit for something (much like the gate in Sunny Forest being the exit of Underground Cave)

Then when SoAssembly arrived and realized there were tunnels near 3 outposts/ huts, I hoped to have a intricated tunnel system with one route leading there..!

GuessnI will never see this idea come to reality

So, if we think it through, all the forest was a mine, Assembly HeadQuarter included. There was a concept art of a quarry (a mine with open sky above) I guess that was made into the HQ with the addition of the Treehouse

When it was first introduced (in Belonging) there weren't rocks near the gate mechanism, they had to adjust for clarity since this area will never be used nor will it lead to anywhere. I either assume it's a porting space or an another exit to Forest

In the Quest 2, we've seen in the memory that there Are baby jellys, but now the only jellyfish in there are big ones. What do you guys think happened to those baby jellys?

First thing came to my mind was the jellys that follow marching adventurer around on days of sunlights

Then again, we never saw small jellyfish in underground cave, but they came from below the clouds

There could be alot more living there uhder the clouds, together with a whale (or even baby whales)

Which leads me to think about how the underground cave used to be. Maybe in the past it was less vast and with little to no clouds, but the human actions led to opening more holes/entrances which led the clouds pour inside, one of which could be the wind tunnel, but there could be more hidden under clouds, for example a whale size entrance too, for the big boy we can spot there for the "first" time

We skykids get power when interacting with clouds, seasonal areas like sanctuary and prophecy caves were engulfed by clouds which dissapeared over time

so id say there are multiple landmarks in sky which are just preserved thanks to clouds

i honestly do not believe the diamond itself guides us but thats mostly my own though, what i believe is, the eden storm liberated an insane amount of energy and power to the world, this energy was condensed into clouds which engulfed entire areas of the kingdom of sky

as time passes, this clouds loose their energy and dissapear, releaving what was hidden, but overall it could be neat to imagine how the eden diamond could have some sort of awareness, ive always seen it as a purely artificial object

For me, what I believe is that Resh (the king) was the one to guide us as a way to "atone" to his mistakes (in any case that he was the one that caused the destruction) or maybe even just help us rediscover the kingdom and help everyone be "free" from the darkness.

Also about the clouds losing energy, it could be similar to the map shrine once you activated one in a perspective of a moth 🤔

It’s underground so on one hand it’d be sheltered from a lot of immediate damage but on the other would be very vulnerable to collapse, rockfall, stuff like that as the ground shook…

I don't think it's the only one, I think even Performance Theatre is untouched , and maybe Treasure Reef too. But putting those aside, yes it could be a safe spot from the Redding, even because a grateful beast like whale can survive there almost untouched. I once thought that area could be called like "whale sanctuary/reservoir"

This 2nd Quest sort of raise other questions for me (beside the dimension of the cave and how much of that is human made)

Why this spirit is now full grown and already wearing the cape bestowed by the Aurora Guide?
Has this episode happened after Mindful Miner were granted the Earth Power by Aurora Guide?
So this means the 1st Quest child was not a Sky Kid like us or like the Winged Light that leaves the imprint of light at the end of the take off ramp direct to the Temple?

And why does the jellyfish are attracted to the mining resources? (This one could be tied to my idea of those crystal to be light aligned instead of the most common "darkstone" interpretation of the "Resource" sort of introduced in SoAbyss)

Much like us skykids are drawn toward lights and candles, jellyfish could be drawn towards those light crystal (again, I think this could be a valid alternative name, also because in Forest we already have a Tearful LIGHT Miner from the start)

So let’s go back to the quest topic. To summarize from what I know, Mindful Miner and two other miners mine some light crystals. Jellyfish interrupt them and they’re confused or curious so they follow the jellyfish. The jellyfish follow them everywhere when they do their jobs. The jellyfish lure them into the cave, where one of the miners die. The jellyfish show them an exit. The jellyfish take them to a corner and are about to be attacked for “killing” one of the miners. The Mindful Miner understands the jellyfish aren’t there are friendly and sorry, so he protects the jellyfish from the angry miners. The jellyfish are happy and the Mindful Miner continues to be kind.

Did I miss anything?

Then that’s why I said the jellyfish were sorry. I know they probably didn’t actually say sorry, but they didn’t mean for the miner to die.

Hmm it could be possibly that the jellyfish didn't lure them in and it was nothing but a coincidence. As light creatures and ancestors seem to have a bond. So maybe it was just a misunderstanding and/or the miners were blinded by the death of their colleague?

True but all light creatures have a sense of awareness when it comes to danger. Mantas call for help and cry when the dark plants surround them. We run away from the dark stones when we lose light. It’s common sense, even for jellyfish.

Indeed, and to add more I think that blue is not a bad color, but rather another state of light (much like Ancestors have two colors, blue and yellow if ascended)

So it that blue is just a colder / condensed state of light the blue crystal are just light in a solid form. The plants also have that colors as we witnessed and this led many to think it was a bad color. But if you think it through, that's intense blue is just from plants which keeps light captive!

Once a plant respawn but has no light it has a dim blue, that could be a color that darkplants developed in a "evolution strategy" to attract more light creature and trap them (butterflies and small mantas)

Oh I just thought they were blue to show they’re spirits/dead. And the yellow means they’re ascended dead people.

Because in the colosseum the Mindful Miner is solid like us. And in the memory, they’re blue, to show it’s a memory/spirit depending where they are.

Yeah. I said “if” like another case. After Eye of Eden, the jellyfish help us and we help them to ascend into orbit, so I think that can be used to show that they have some awareness. Maybe you’re right and they don’t have a sense of safety. But the jellyfish would be dying if they were near dark stones because dark stones burn light.

@shrewd mango@still star I'm pretty sure (at least from my POV) sure the Wayfarer is the child and not the parent/caretaker, one because it's still alive in the second half of the quest and two because they will grown into the ancestor we see by Aurora Guide. It's also strange the parent figure is very different and very basic to recall the Wayfarer we see in the Coliseum

The final solution maybe will be given only when this spirit will arrive as a Travelling Spirit, so by Ascending thme we could see which figure is changed into yellow/golden form.

Seriously tho, jellyfish aren't renown for their intelligence but the concept timeline DID have a conflict between ancestors and light creatures because of the whole darkstone thing.

It would be interesting to see light creatures uncharacteristically banding up to trick or harm ancestors to defend their territory...

Light creatures likely help Skykids because they spread light, but it's possible that while some ancestors got along with them (Flight spirits, Whisperers), others didn't really care about light creatures.

Some ancestors the creatures recognize are harming their environment could have been attacked !

Later, the mine more and more till they got into the center island and the miners get stuck in that island. Mindful Miner sees another group of Jellyfishes and rides them to get to the top, afterwards, they go back and they see another Jellyfish group and instead of shooing it away, Mindful Miner defends them, then they ride a boat to the top of the central island and go ahead and pet a Jellyfish

This is genuinely a really interesting observation, I hadn’t connected the dots on my own. I know Spade has a headcanon (which I also share) about Forest flooding in response to a wildfire, but I think the constant and heavy rain is more behind this erosion specifically. This might be due to their size but I know you also see a lot of trees with exposed roots

Since they are space rocks that imitates human form by making stuff of light, I think sky kids don't really know what "hair" is. The jellyfish on Jellyfish Whisperer is most likely a hat, but they see it on the spirits head so they think of it as hair. Same goes for the hairs with hat on it, or any supposed-to-be-hat-but-is-hair cosmetics

The thing they copy as "hat", is stuff that they seen the original hair before, so they know it's accessory, like Flight Guide's hair pins, or Summer Guide's beach hat

Or maybe they saw those spirits took off the hat/hair pin some time and know it's not part of "hair"

If the elders "hair" is made of light the same way, maybe long time ago when they first fell, they saw some ancestor with that hair and liked it and copied the hair. Each elder may have many hair style, but their current hair must be "favourite hair", since they wear it for long time and not change it

Home has always been really wobbly in terms of how canon it is for ppl, so i just think its mostly an atmospheric thing, would feel weird if you went home during eden and everything was normal imo

It could be that home acts as a kind of power source, and by meditating at elder shrines, we’re “powering the area up”

But by going to eden pnr, the machine locks us out because we’re covered in wayyy too much darkness, which is known to consume light/energy.

Each portal for the realms has a mask the repsresent their respective elders.
Although Eden has 5 elder masks, which excludes Dawn, but still.

Would the gate itself be like the gates to heaven/hell?

What if the portal we see in Orbit is what once was supposed to be the portal ancestors/skykids were to access?

Honestly I think Home is just a state in which when we go to sleep or meditate
Before the return shrine system we had to walk back into the portal we left from to return to our checkpoint (which caused checkpoint splits in groups)

That being the portal back home from the top of Vault (which is right before Eden), and post-Eden where skykids enter another portal in Orbit.

Aside from going home by meditating on your own, you can also do so at a bird shrine.

Have you seen the leviathan yet? It’s probably from either that or a krill attack.
Although we don’t know for sure, like Alasdair said, because neither of those creatures have super obvious claws but… might be a situation where some artistic liberties were taken for aesthetic reasons

They were probably containers for darkstone, which are the blue crystals you use your candles to light to open up doors & things!

Lore enthusiasts would call these butterfly jars.
As there are several theories surrounding these diamond shaped jars.
If not butterflies, then light orbs that the laughing spirits was shown catching. Coupled with the Forest temple door mural showing the power from these boats used to make diamonds. Which the temple itself shows with a jar placed in the mechanism and powering said mechanism and the doors.
Thus in short, as an observation, these may be a primitive version of the power diamonds. If not an alternate way to store light.

The second image is probably a toper for a building, similar to that of Valley buildings.

Its unlikely that these containers were used to hold butterflies/light orbs; besides being impractical for that purpose, a mural below the docking area in Forest, as well as the cutscene after meditating at Day’s shrine, shows that pots were used to transport these

To clarify, The forest temple door shows the pots brought by boat being used as a part of the process for forging or combining the power of light and the dark stone, to make power diamonds.

We don’t really have the canon language of the ancestors decoded yet unfortunately :( we do see it in some places, like projected in the vault elders cutscene & engraved on bells, but it doesn’t seem to translate to anything we know of, and (in my opinion) it’s more for aesthetic than an actually fleshed out language

There are these glyphs, however is is unclear to what they mean.
Whereas they are symbols, letters, or just glyphs of power.

In my mind they could also be amplifiers, you put one power diamond in that slot and it amplifies their effect.

I think the giant golden dynamo on the top of the forest temple might be an upgrade, a more complex circuit/machinery

Whil I think the ones on the top of pinnacles and tower might just be a decorative part, to show off the opulence of the civilization

good point, i wonder if in universe there are certain metals/materials that are conductive to light energy, like how ones in our world are conductive to electricity? & maybe gold is one?

we only see it used fairly rarely in decorations (valley has some gold things, but they seem to be mostly elder related things and might be seen as kinda sacred) so maybe there’s not much gold leftover from darkstone things to use otherwise?

I think it's more like "transform" the light power. I'd like to think that the gold spires on Daylight Prairie were powered from the diamonds extracted from the mantas that's why the giant mantas come out.

My headcanon is that they are attracted by the sounds, after all we saw many other examples of getting summoned or attracted by simple sounds like the mantas and the birds whispered memories (the first more, because just their memory is enough to call even living mantas at the Citadel) and like the chimes/bells in Windpaths. In a way even the 2nd music quest we could say summons jellyfish too
