They're jiggly, have a slight resistance to bite but will break after a few seconds. They melt under heat or pressure, can be put together into new/terrible shapes after being broken apart (like sky kids), & have a slightly bland taste

Basically: because skykids are pretty much just... born with the mind of like a 6-10 year old child, they... would probably get pretty overwhelmed all the time for a good while!
Of course, there's something preventing this. For the first while of a Skykid's existence- anywhere from a few weeks to a few months- they're essentially in some sort of... safe mode. like a toys try me setting or, yknow, booting a computer up in safe mode. This is what being a Moth is!
Skykids who were recently born aren't... entirely there mentally in order to stop them from getting overwhelmed. they learn based on mimicking others, they talk a lot less (its not uncommon for a skykids first words to be long AFTER they've grown out of their moth stage) and their thoughts are... genuinely a lot simpler. its not so much that theyre stupid or genuinely Less Of A Fully Aware Sentient Person in this state as much as it's like... i guess putting a big heavy blanket over a speaker. everythings muffled and its hard to make out any details but when the blanket finally comes off the song will be familiar to you

at least for me, the effect of the shard is affected largely by what kind of memory was stored in it. most of the bigger changes are behavioral, but there might be some shifting in perspective (like a skykid with an eye for beautiful landscapes gets dark creature memories and starts seeing the beauty in wasteland/eden/other places claimed by darkness) i think they can be positive or negative, it all depends on what story you want to tell

OHOO! i actually do headcanon that they were pretty much isolated from anyone their own age and literally had to trick an entire council into getting the twins chosen as Elders (headcanoning the twins to actually be skykids + the king's childhood friends) and up until the catastrophe those two were pretty much their only chance to have a decent, relatively happy life sometimes

i am a SUCKER for characters who are just... kids who got into some fantastical whimsical role and really do not want any of it. kids who are a chosen one and actually face the consequences of being so young and doing such important work. kids who are cosmically important but aren't excited about it

ok so it's mostly related to how a skykid's light reacts to colored light. inside a skykid's shell is, for lack of a better term, light soup. If you introduce colored light to the inner light, then it will slowly dissipate until it's evenly spread throughout the inner light. however, since all inner light eventually flows through a skid's core, and the core is yellow, that colored light will eventually fade, causing little to no long term effects.

in my 'verse i have something called colored light poisoning, which can happen in one of two ways but works basically the same way. the first way is if a large amount of colored light was introduced to a skykid's inner light over a long period of time. It would have to be enough so that there was more colored light that regular light in the body. since colored light would overtake the yellow light, it would gradually shift the color of the skykid's core. the other way is if an enormous amount of colored light was introduced to a skykid's core directly, overwhelming the inner light and changing its color. either way, the end result is that the skykid's inner light is no longer yellow. different colored lights would have different effects on a skykid's mood, & they would only be able to manipulate that colored light. returning to orbit balances a skykid's inner light and brings it back to yellow

okay okay get this: Shrikes. the bird famous for. being very gruesome with its prey.
lanius, the skykid, however, is a very pleasant little fellow, if a bit meek. literally would not hurt a fly.
they... kinda had to go to extreme measures to survive in the wasteland. dark plants burn well but don't regrow fast enough to last forever. crabs, however... there's quite a lot of them, and, while youd still need kindling, a single dead crab could fuel a fire for quite a while... and there's plenty of nice sharp things around to keep a few extra off the ground for when they got too sick to leave the fire... and keeping some dead crabs around kept the live ones out of the cave they lived in...

No they don’t! The ‘soup’ part is the memories from the shards souping with them.

There are possibilities of a skykid getting so badly sharded that they have to be sheltered inside of another skykids body and then risk becoming soup [ @frigid tinsel’s Amander] but otherwise, the ‘soup’ bit is entirely soup with the shard memories.

Yea that was a consideration for Amander cos the shard obliterated their flame. Skykids’ light manipulation depends on the flame and with the massive hole in their chest, Amander’s light kept spilling out of them. Still debating whether they are taken to Eden in another skykid’s body or their own tho, but if the former, Amander and that skid would become soup

what happens with acheron is they get sharded, the light containing krill memories fuses with their inner light, their buddy clears the shard and drags them off to wasteland elder bc they're in pretty bad shape, dusk fixes most of the things, acheron gets overwhelmed by the krill memories and runs off into the desert

3. Xena sacrifices their light just to make sure Zyvia stays alive. Memories go wipe
4. Zyvia, who was once a timid, helpful friend, is now a sad Skykid who lost a friend and slowly become colder to other Skykids (presumably that of krills)

The sunlight hitting you and you can feel it seeping into your very being like some sort of void you didn't know you had was being filled but this is normal for everyone in this world. standing next to someone or sitting by a fire and getting that same deep energy and its very nice but also everywhere and everything and avoiding it is Bad. Being able to tell how someone's doing just by the way their light feels when your next to them. being able to sit right up against a crackling fire and feel an entirely different kind of heat, one that passes right through you and over your entire being rather than just hot dry air and embers in your face. Laying in the sunlight and just. As amazing as im sure it is that's the big thing that im sure'd be overwhelming if you just. ended up as a skykid one day yknow

i think this is something skykids can actually do! through physical contact, usually hand holding, two or more skykids can Do That. Whichever one takes the lead basically, for lack of a better word bc i am bad with words... "stream" their actions to another skykid. it isn't control or any sort of involuntary thing- the "leader" has to actively stream their actions to the "follower", and the follower has to make the conscious choice to copy that, but once the connection's made the following skykid will reflexively copy the leading skykids actions until either of them decide to stop. useful ability for traveling long distances (taking turns actually doing the traveling while the others can zone out a bit and just chill!) or for teaching young moths how to skykid (some skykids dont have a flight instinct and using your light to fly is hard to explain verbally- in this case teaching them how would be as easy as taking their hand and doing it yourself so they feel how they're supposed to do it)

I want to talk about my headcanons about how the OG Prophets reacted to the students but it's more headcanon based than evidence based

Basically, the prophets were just normal citizens, until they started having weird dreams. They were brought to consultation with the Isle Elder, and they became enlisted as Prophets. The disciplined and wise image they radiate is from Becoming the Mask (a trope).

The thing they were training the students for was to make them strong enough for the trials and/or to awaken someone's inner light, signaling them as the chosen one.

However, four students started having weird dreams just like the prophets. Young Wayfarer told Water Prophet about it (I HC they found comfort in Water Prophet because Prophet reminded them of the one they lost in more ways than one) and the news got to the other prophets. This was a completely unprecedented thing to happen, but the prophets encouraged the four and helped them make their mural, which is probably hidden somewhere.

I have heard a few different versions of the Resh story, but not much about sky generally? And I'm not sure where to start. So I guess I'm wondering if there is a good place to start learning the lore without headcanons kinda getting mixed in as if they're authoritative. Does that make sense? I'm also wanting to put this new Aurora quest in context. Like, if the boy is Resh/Alef, then who is the woman who died and how do we know? I have a theory that AURORA is a worshipped deity in the world of Sky. Would you like to hear it?

The four spirits are the Prophets' best students, and they ended up creating their own mini-prophecy predicting the existence of a musical deity known as the AURORA. This prophecy became popular among musicians and performers, and some even claimed to have visions of the AURORA, but they were subconscious and couldn't be proven.

One day, the four student prophets decided to go on a pilgrimage to find a way to prove the AURORA's existence, AKA finding a way to show her in the conscious plane. They succeeded in that department, but the Eden apocalypse struck, killing them all on their way back. Throughout their lives, their respective voices had become such an integral part of their light that they ended up losing it to the darkness... until now.

In the present day, they were able to bring AURORA to the colloseum for everyone to see. They pray for AURORA to return their voices, which is what AURORA guides us to do.

The spirits' lost voices manifest as memories contained in AURA fields, which AURORA reveals to us.

Just throwing random lore theory, rather than actual deity, Aurora might be a siren spirit, falls into Sky kingdom, then chosen for her voice to sing in Orbit for all.
Her origin might be the same as Alef, with slight difference is Aurora falls during aurora (probably during winter time / days of feast)

i was thinking about an old oc named Koa. Koa is immune to the rain. now this obviously didnt happen naturally so im trying to figure out reasons as to why this would happen. my first instinct was souping, so i went, “oh, Koa got souped with jelly memories! easy!” but then im thinking, “are jellies immune to rain?”

i say no, as the only times i can recall jellies are when you stop the rain in forest, in the underground forest, or in sunny forest when the assembly kids took over the place. they are aquatic animals, and they rise out of the water when you deactivate the rain, but the water itself isnt harmful, no? its just the rain.

so now i say “okay, what is ‘immune’ to rain?” i thought of the light blooms in forest, as they rejuvenate your light and dont give a crap about rain effects as far as i know. i could say that Koa getting souped with a light bloom memory just wasn’t in the game, but that generated a different question:

what even are the light blooms??
i started thinking about the darkness plants you burn. are they also corrupted, like krill? if so, what could possibly be their uncorrupted forms? im thinking that, if the uncorrupted versions of darkness plants still exists, then light blooms would be that form.

I have a weird theory. Not sure if this was considered before, but here goes.

Throughout the lore of Sky, there is not much from the game itself that shows how the world of Sky came to be, other than that there was Light and Darkness. This balance was natural and the ancestors lived in harmony. These 2 sides may be personalised in this hypothesis as being the Megabird (or the Bird of Light) and the King.
How so may stem from these two seemingly godlike entities being rarely shown in the game, though their presence very much lives in the world of the Sky. As part of the lore of Sky (the Office Mural), and being the 2 elder like characters us skykids do not get to meet in person (being in Eden, and Orbit).

In past theories, I like to think of the Megabird being the giver of Light and Life, similar to how mother nature in mythology fills a similar role. Whereas the King, I like to equate to Father Time, as I propose that the King may have been the one to rule over time. I shall elaborate more on this if need be (as I have in the past, though it was a while back in the channel, and it is a working theory still).

With the premise set, the theory I want to get to goes as follows:
What if the King was/is not an elder?
As in, the entity, like the Megabird, embodies its element and may not resemble their namesake necessarily.
The Megabird, or the Bird of Light is called this in concept art. This gives the impression of this vague form of light coalescing at a point would represent a bird's shape (the wide spread wings, and pointed head).
That said, I wonder if the King may not be a humanoid entity as the other elders, but perhaps the dark stone itself?

Being that the King is not a person, but the collective fragments of Dark stone, or crystal.

If this were to be a viable theory, this may extend to an interesting dynamic to the Sky Prince.
Being what if the balance was disrupted by the Prince not able to ascend to the Light, thus breaking the cycle, & Darkness spreading.

Going to simplify the theory a bit.

Suppose that the King is crystal, the dark stones can hold light, and thus memories.
We can see this with memory lanterns in concept art. As well as in use in the game with holding light.

What if the cycle that used to be in the world of Sky, was the pilgrimage of the Sky Prince. A winged light. A child of Light. A star.
When this balance was disrupted, Darkness started to spread, while the Light (stars) fell.

In concept art, there used to be art of the King (the supposed elder of Eden) and of the Prince.
While the King had a vague humanoid form, the King was known to have a glowing face. While the Prince has a mask that represents the same.
There has been theories about the King and the Prince debating about various things. Some proposed the King and Prince were the same person at different ages. That the Prince transformed/was coronated to become the king. As well as possibly separate characters.

What I am thinking of is if the King was not an elder per say, but the dark stone as a whole. Similar to how the Megabird being the counterpart to the Darkness, embodies Light, and is a Bird in name only.

Remembering what the devs said about the 'King can no longer be saved.'
Perhaps the reason for it is because the darkness is corrupted. And what used to be King is lost.
This may leave the question if there may be a new 'King'. Something/Someone else that may take its place.

What if the season of Shattering would be infact be the King's dying memory?
Seeing the shards shows memories not many ancestors, nor creatures would know of.
It would make sense that only the Megabird, the King or even the Prince would the only entities that would know about all of these shard memories as a whole. Especially with the elder memory.

Notice the Shattering season has no ending cutscene. Which is unlike any other season in Sky.
Perhaps the reason for this is because the guide's wish cannot be fulfilled. Their spirit cannot be Saved.
Such as the King (and possibly their spirit) cannot be saved.

Such as the counterpart to Life is Death.

If the Darkness in Sky is now corrupted, it cannot be saved. The game would tell skykids that Darkness has to be cleansed.
To cleanse something would mean to rid it of impurities (corruption), or make clean.

Perhaps the damage done by Darkness can be similar to a fire that burnt down a forest. While the forest can heal and thrive once more, there trees that once existed cannot be saved. Therefore, if this were to be the case, perhaps the former King of Sky is lost, and there may be another that can take their place.

In my understanding with this interpretation.. we are atoning with the father by being the next one to balance light and dark (prophecy) and one of the acts that atone for the sins is cleansing corruption (shattering)

Plus the Whirlwind 🌪️ to descend in Wasteland was probably conceived by the Twins to be sure keep darkness outside of Valley (especially Krills) with the Air Element gifted to their kingdom.
This theory is partialy inspired by the old cutscene from Old Beta, where they are doing a spiral dance in sync, ascending with the flame gift iirc, but I see why TGC opted for a funny alteration

We dont know, and in the past I think someone also asked to some passing by dev here in Lorechat, but it's not like any dev knows all the aspects (each has their sector)

Here on the Memory Void the symbols seems just radom lines (which oddly satisfying seeing it remind of cuneiform writing from Sumerians) but in an old comparison (I think maybe by Bricky, iirc, it waa from 1+ year ago) the shapes are more poligonals, on both our mask/headress and on Elder's one)

Devs, iirc, so far told us there is no specific alohabet, but we can notice that there are symbols recalling it, one is from the mask/headress (which resemble a periodic table) one on Vault Elder cutscene murals and I'm pretty sure there were some old concept arts there were labels written in a particulal alphabet which was quite easy to decipher

With today Shards Landing I spotted another element which proves one of my theories.

Let me start by saying I believe the baby (pancake) mantas are infants of multiwings great/king/queen mantas we see in Sanctuary, instead of the baby version regular mantas (pancake manta -> great manta instead of pancake manta -> regular manta -> great manta).

First thing first, as I stated many times, the single horn on pancake manta can be the first step that leads in the "evolution" into the 2 - 3 horns great mantas has. Plus the back part of both species wings seems to has a similar S shape and no "feathers" present on regular mantas, meaning growing up these babies will obtain a second pair of wings along their life cycle.

But the new detail I didn't spot sooner during SoShattering is that in shards event as today, we have to save animals memories/fragments which has regular mantas, but in the most small size we saw so far. After all we can see the same regular shape manta in differnt sizes in all Realms, but most evident case is during Eden Castle Flight

presumably if Alef/the prince/Chosen One is the skid that fell in Ushering Stargazer's memories and also the one who completed the Trials – that may have been their purpose, what Megabird sent them for. why? what was the purpose of the Trials? control over the 4 elemental lights? to find a ruler?

there's the Failed Hero's Journey Theory wherein Megabird sent one skykid (Chosen One) to save the world from some pre-Eden calamity disaster. this plan sseemed to work then something went wrong (Eden calamity) that murked them along with the ancestors and screwed over the Elders. Sky's plot is thus a subversion of the Hero's Journey wherein instead of one individual saving the world, it's many, many individuals (skykids).

that's why I like the Failed Hero's Journey Theory so much – it shows how the narrative of a single person saving the world is way overemphasized, an oversimplication of the society and relationships that help people.

My personal headcanon is that hearts represent our bonds with other Sky kids made manifest into a physical form. In Ancestor society they held bonds between two people in high esteem. If a person brings another a certain item it shows that they wish to pursue a friendship. For us it’s candles, for Ancestors it could be anything from a rare sweet to a carved figure. Therefore when we offer Spirits hearts, they know that we wish to pursue a deeper connection with them and give us things that were important to them, such as their cosmetics and emotes.

I hold the desire path theory in regards to winged light:

Since winged light are imprints they are merely the impression of skykids, not skykids converted into something else but something their presence has left behind. One cannot become winged light, but one or more skykids do make them by just existing in the world in addition to some other factor.

One theory suggests they appear where many skykids have been and coalesce into winged light, like creating a well-treaded path in the woods by many footsteps — hence why they appear in the same spots. In-game they may be in the same spot for gameplay accessibility but in-universe they could land anywhere.

We do know that winged light did not exist before skykids existed because they are never depicted in murals or spirit memories.

I’ve been favoring the idea that winged light are the imprints of skykids, specifically a mark where many of them have been, hence why they appear in the same places (tho that may be gameplay mechanic, but I like to think in-universe they also appear elsewhere less often) like a well-treaded path in the woods made by many footprints walking the same way.

Yeah, I was going to say, at least headcanon-wise, I know many people who say sky kids can be born in all places for the sake of giving them different starting points and unique backstories.
Yet, I do find it fascinating how sky kids are always born and reborn on the Home plate. There’s also something potentially very intriguing world and lore-wise about them always starting in the same place as well, so I’m quite torn between the two interpretations.
And yeah! It also makes sense that we can’t be born anywhere in-game due to limitations and inconvenient gameplay

I think there was an unintentional bug, if you entered another realm farther along the way (for example Valley) and the next map shrine you activate is in Prairie then on the map you still have the mark left on Valley. Both realms I listed would’ve had darkness introduced to them via pollution. Forest in the rain as kind of a slow but steady infection, Wasteland probably much faster as it seems to be like, the pollution dumping ground to some extent, & it would’ve gotten messed up faster

Darkness is kinda equivalent to pollution (from refineries) in that the pollution produced is darkness. Also, there’s no evidence for the king getting corrupted, just thought you should know as it’s parroted as canon based on concept art without much current stuff behind it

most game lore theories are based on the concept arts, And the first photo is an official concept art so-
The second is fanart (I think) but the design is based on another concept art too-

The problem with this theory specifically is that we don’t know if the stories in the concept art carried over to the final version. There’s a bunch of concept art stuff that was scrapped entirely (ie animal elders) and this could very well be one of those concepts, especially as there’s no evidence for it in the live game. Also, most theories here are based off live game things instead of concept art. Hope this helps to clarify things.

Yes they’re used interchangeably but I don’t think they should be. the king refers to concept art. Chosen One refers to the bloke in the murals who completed the Trials, which the king in concept art didn’t do.

Well, what you said is how lore is added in seasons. TGC can add lore facts to the King after they made the concept art. Instead of 2 vague figures doing different things, it’s 1 vague figure whose actions are revealed to us over time.

I think they can hurt skykids just not as much as red shards do, and that they don’t have memories within. I can see skykids breaking off bits to use as weapons for themselves; especially because they don’t suck in the light of whoever touches it, I like to imagine they can pack a punch, but only if they penetrate a skykids shell

Sorta! The components that make up the krills are/were born in the ocean, & the krills themselves can go in/on either the air or sea, but it's unknown if the majority of krills came from the land or sea as we don't know where the ancestors stored the majority of their juiced mantas waste (although we know what kinds of locations they were stored in)

Well yeah I wouldn’t expect the hand gesture to look perfect but I do still feel like it’s recoiling from camera flash, especially considering the 3rd person photo-taking... as well as the fact the screen flashes completely white and blinds ME, lol. If we had a feature that allowed us to take photos from 1st person of just the scenery then it’d make more sense to me.. but then again I’ve been playing for a long time with this view on it, so it’s hard to see it any other way.

well, if the shards fell in the elder memory with the same mechanic as being hit by or coming into contact with ||red rain||/shards, if they weren’t able to rekindle their light, i’d expect them to become a statue ||similar to the skids in eden||. in game, ||ascension|| only happens ||in eden||, so they might either have their light entirely extinguish, destroying the soul, or maybe ||ascension is possible outside of eden, allowing them to return to the megabird to be reborn||

So my understanding of dark stone is that dull/black dark stones carry no memory or a faded memory and glowing/blue dark stone is carrying intact or rekindled memories. And these memories are emitted as a sort of light energy or life force. Anyway before I end up repeating myself like I've don't multiple times about the light = memory theory, what is happening with the dark stone that glows red?

Are they filled with memories associated with negative emotions, overloaded with memories or are they full of artificial memories? If it is artificial memories, perhaps that is why it is only really found in Eden and why it's so unstable.
