For me I was just happy for representation that wasn't glaringly stereotypical for once & actually fit in the theme of the game very well, there is that familiar theme of mystery & an oasis but it doesn't feel too on the nose is the best I can describe it, the devs didn't even listen to requests for Aladdin-esque items which I was glad for (We love that movie here but there's a hundred else things to reference)

No disrespect to Vela, no really you're the best, but I simply don't think Wooly Manta would be possible. The way they fly is by flapping their wings and gliding. Having wool would make them un-aerodynamic, I think. It would mess also with their flapping. What are your toughts?

These dogs were used by the Coast Salish peoples for their wool,(since they didn't have sheep), maybe the flight spirits have something similar? Maybe, it's just a tought.

Anyways, I also had a theory I wanted to share on 'evolution' explaining (maybe) how light creatures become what they become.

In theory light works like water, it has memory and it takes the path with the least resistance.

Light falls into the world from orbit. From there it becomes a light creature. Light creatures experiment with their shape, charcteristic and size to get the light trough Mt Eden.

well, the Elders led the kingdom, even if in their respective realms. they were necessary in maintaining the kingdom's infrastructure. they each played a role in their own way and, as Spade said, sometimes made the wrong decisions or decisions they thought were for the best but ending up hurting in the long run.

it's also possible the Elders turned again or exiled each other – see questioning why Isle Elder isn't on the Eden gate. Isle Elder could've been against darkstone usage but was ignored. Praiire Elder could've been against too, yet because their realm was so integral to the kingdom's functioning (food to feed everyone and light creatures for power diamonds), they couldn't secede without opposition.

I could see Prairie Elder willingly signing up to helping supply diamonds with light creatures at it's introduction. Even when it comes to sacrificing, there are ways that animals or resources can be taken from the environment but its at a balance where harm is not done, and it can be beneficial even. It could be that later on demand became more than the resource could provide, but at that point the Prairie elder was perhaps too far into it. Like the frog in boiling water analogy, it could have been easy to loose sight of changes if you're thoroughly involved in something if the changes happened subtly, until it was too late.

We've seen that darkness corruption causes a sort of calcification/petrification, especially in Shattering when we lose our light and are impaled by dark stones. Using corruption here as a title for the loss of light by the way, perhaps not its original meaning as a fundamental state change. (Though in a way I suppose it can cause a fundamental state change, again these spirits were not able to free themselves until Skykids came along, and Skykids can't regain light on their own when losing light from Eden's shards-they must seek out another skykid or a rejuvenating source of flame/clouds)

In all seriousness, I perceive Ancestors as indeed being made up of a different kind of "light". I think Mantas, Birds, etcetera were all light born from the "planet" of Sky. The ancestors however, I imagine they are made of starlight, as stars come to the earth-something not from the actual realm of Sky originally. I believe there's a line alluding to this in the intro..though I'm not sure if it's in the current intro or not. I only remember the one from when I started years ago.

But if its Starlight vs Natural Light perhaps that is why the effect is slightly different.

It's one of my favorites because it makes a lot of sense, glad I helped form it.

I like to think that, as a mirror to the caricature theory, the spirits with elder masks (, , , , ...) represent how the elders feel !
Dawn could be caricatured as authoritarian when they are just protecting vestiges of the past, Day could be depicted as greedy when really they are tired of it all, Rain could be seen as a workaholic when they could be compensating deep regret, etcetera.

I’ve been thinking about this but since Day, Rain, Dusk, and Sunset all harness an element from the prophecy caves, do you think not only they could control the basic things; earth, water, air, fire that they would be able to do sub elements with them?

I don’t know what they would exactly be, I thought of thunder/lightning for the twins one time, but that doesn’t make sense when I thought of it more. Unless ofcorse two or more elders joint control to make like fire tornados for example just wondering if anyone has similar ideas to this

Hmm, I like that idea but it seems like you would expect to see the occasional creature or plant dying... Even the mantas trapped in darkness plants don't seem in danger of losing their light. Not like a skid who wandered away from the controller hehe.

They do get brighter when we touch them though, so there's definitely a light reactive element :3

Perhaps the environment is more dynamic in-universe, but you have to keep in mind technical limitations and game mechanics that would make such a frequently-changing environment hell to render

Aside from the shard events adding a new twist to the areas, the game tends to become stagnant over time. Which is what the devs are working on nullifying with events, seasons and quests.

Adding an event of a light creature dying at random times and the corpse despawning for it to replay the event again may not be good for ling term playability. Though it may seemingly be the implication to the lore of the Sky. That a creature can be killed, though the game, or the devs, (or both) may not want to show this to the younger players.

This limitation, or censorship, may be part of maintaining a family friendly atmosphere in the game. Or perhaps what benefit the game would have to including it. Or even a matter of prioritising some events in the lore of sky to be featured in the game over others.

It’s really hard to tell as they don’t seem to have a visual change, but the 5th abyss quest does seem to imply them getting extinguished is a thing that could happen
