The figure, even while seated on their anvil, looms above me, as all the Elders have. Their back is to me, but they seem to be holding something in their hands, regarding it. There is a tension in the air I don’t understand, heavier even than the humidity of the Forest around us.

“What do you want.” The Elder speaks in a flat voice, as though they don’t truly care for my answer but are compelled to ask anyway.

I clear my throat, but before I can speak, they continue. “Is it another tool? Another weapon? Unless you’ve brought me the materials and resources, there’s little I can do for you.”

“N-no, I-“ I stammer, start again. “I brought… I brought you a… a gift…?” My voice trails off, weak and uncertain. The other Elders were kind, if intimidating, but this one is cold, brusque, and I don’t know where I stand.

There’s a moment of silence, and a soft clink as whatever the Elder is holding falls to the floor in front of them. They turn, waves of bound hair rippling as they regard me over their shoulder, and in one fluid motion they leap from their anvil and land gracefully in front of me.

They tower over me, looking down, judging. I glance away from their face, down to the flame in my hands, and look back up just in time to flinch away as they lunge toward me, snatching my offering from my hands.

“A flame,” they murmur. “Pure light, unrefined, infinite potential.” They seem to be speaking to themself, as they’ve already turned away from me and back to their anvil, where they place the light before raising one hand to the sky.

From the stars they summon a hammer, massive and blunt. A blacksmith’s tool, meant to forge nothing into something. But what will it do with the something I’ve given? The Elder wields it high above their head in a two-handed grip, bringing it down with all their strength, as if trying to crush the flame beneath it. Again and again they hammer at it as I creep closer to watch, and the light flickers but does not wane.

“Truly, a rare commodity,” the Elder murmurs.

Apparently satisfied, they toss the hammer to the side, and I take a step back to avoid being hit. With a gesture from the Elder, the flame rises to float in midair, and with one hand and then the other they reach out to retrieve the shattered pieces of stone they’d been studying when I arrived. The shards form a diamond around the light, a shape I’ve come to recognize through my travels, and as it ascends up into the shadows of the distant ceiling I cannot help but wonder what this one will do.

It finds its home in the center of the strange domed contraption that dominates the upper portion of the room, and the device stirs to life, glowing and humming as its parts spin and rotate into position.

For a moment, nothing seems to happen. And then, all at once, everything does.

The diamonds studding the columns of the back wall flicker to life, and the columns themselves turn, opening door after door after door. With each opened chamber, another manta is released, and as one, the flock bursts through the doors and out, into the sun.

Into the light.

The lore, as limited as it is, plus official crumbs we got indicates a war between light and darkness. Light being the light creatures (spirits, mantas, butterflies, birds, fish, etc.) and darkness (crabs, krills, red shards, dark plants, etc.) corrupted by the Eden explosion cataclysm that ended the spirit civilization.

Yeah, the war in Wasteland. But... I think the Wasteland war was just a part of it all. Everything in the Sky kingdom was falling apart, and Wasteland was the world's last realm standing between evil and Vault. Vault being the place of secrets, spirituality, culture, history, and just the most important realm except Eden. At that point nothing could stop the cataclysm, if darkness corrupted Vault... Well, then darkness won. Besides being an extremely important land, Vault is also the entrance to Eden.
Again, Eden being the most important realm, the "capital" of Sky yada yada

there were two sights to the valley of triumph: the one during the day, and the one during the night. the day is when the lively emerge; when the streets are filled with triumphant horns and the excited shouts of spectators. and while the night is more subdued, it hosts a special guest.

To me, all the Elders were born of falling stars (tbf that’s canon confirmed). Sunset just came out different.

They all fell at different times, Dawn being the first & oldest and Sunset being the last & youngest, born ready to lead, though they all went through a time of figuring out their niche. Sure, they had characteristics coded in them already, but they had to discover that themselves. For example, Rain wasn’t born a blacksmith, but they always had a twitch in their fingers to make something and they bonded well with the craftspeople who showed them what was possible. The growing kingdom needed someone to cultivate the artisans and further discover what could be made and how useful it would be.

Imo they'd be labelled as "rebellious" or a troublemaker because they just wanted to do what they wanted, regardless of whether said thing could potentially hurt themselves. Child Rain, building things for the joy of building and inspiring others to do the same
Teenage Rain, discovering the effects of mining and how acquiring resources to build with hurts the land and the people, trying to rebel
Young Adult Rain, seeing how their attempts to roll back industry is also hurting the people who've come to rely on it and them
Adult Rain, disillusioned and feeling trapped by what they've been part of creating
and then we come along and give them the spark they need to start fixing things

I have a theory that the Elders fit into pairings of the type of aspects they led among the ancestors. The full length explanation fits into two messages but as a tl;dr
—Dawn and Night oversaw the ancestors’ spiritual and intellectual development, Dawn prioritizing the beginning of the prigrimage while Night prioritized the end (Night being the OG Eden Elder)
—Day and Dusk oversaw the ancestors’ bonds with nature, Day prioritizing smaller light creatures while Dusk prioritized larger light creatures (and given the dearth of elder light creatures today, Dusk failed at that in the end).
—Rain and Sunset oversaw the ancestors’ talents & skills, Rain prioritizing practical craftsmanship while Sunset prioritized arts and entertainment.

even if the rain is imbued with darkness, hence how it likely damages skykids, it is still rain

something ive noticed about the shattering guide/eden diamond: it has a hollow part in the middle, with a much smaller diamond in the centre
this reminds me of things like the demon core, where the actual powerful material is found deep within layers of protective covers. what if that's how this diamond works ? the truly dangerous, powerful material is much smaller and found only inside the protective shell. perhaps that's why the "diamond" broke when the eruption took place - it was merely the shell breaking under the force of what it held within

Since the eden prompt is to "return the light to the fallen", i like to think that they kind of encapsulate the feeling of togetherness, hopes and dreams of everyone that visited them :] in a way, we rekindle hope in these frozen statues up there

idk if you were around for the pink krill incident, but reika (one of the devs) shared pictures of the krill model that had been turned pink (and added a ktjn face to one of them. it was funny). these images of the krill model showed the details of model otherwise unable to be seen in game at the time that have remained consistent with the krills in the memories in shattering. the models never changed broski /not mad

Besides, red in Sky often represents active darkness aka danger — shards, corrupted darkstone, Eden diamond, heck even the sound wave from a krill’s screech was red briefly. A krill’s spotlight only turns red when it spots and charges a being of light. So basically red = run.

but the light children don't stop there. they befriend what's left of the Ancestors, start styling themselves in the ways they see the Ancestors used to. they wear their clothes the way the Ancestors did, they shape their hair the way the Ancestors did. they don't live the way the Ancestors did, but... in a way, the old culture maybe isn't so dead after all

and if those little light children had the chance, if they weren't doomed to perpetuate the cycle of death and rebirth from the moments they fell... maybe they could have a culture all of their own

ok ok so the whole starkid thing was actually made for a. Sky rp but basically yeah like i said they were the skykid before skykids
they started showing up 2 the kingdom around like. When the whole darkstone fiasco downfall situation was just starting cause megabird believed it could be reversed n that stuff could still b fixed
ancestors saw em as sorta holy? beings from the bird erself n while the king wasn’t Too thrilled to see them show up but he decided 2 give em this sorta high status for the sake of publicity n put them out of thought
the starkids themselves were sorta few in numbers like id say less than 15 or something compared to the bonkers amount of skykids now
they couldn’t really like. Fly n stuff but they were able to do this steppy thing kinda like the dragons from raya so capes were more of a decorative thing n a lot of their outfits incorporated stuff like star motifs n for a period of time they did their job pretty well w keeping darkness back but. Pretty soon things just went ↘️↘️↘️ for em
iirc somewhere along the way the few starkids left went along w the enchantment crew on their funky ark n stuff to help out but oops that whole crash happened n during it all megabird decided that things weren’t going to work out n put them in a dormant state

• Caves in isle (prophecy, candlemakers cave) & the wind paths
• I don’t really think you need separate spots to live in vault tbh it’s just basically one large house
• wasteland: unknown, I like to think at least closer to the disaster everyone lived on boats though
• Cave houses in prairie though although they are a bit more advanced (shipwrights)

Ok so

This takes place during the ancient past from before the war to after the war (maybe the present too but I still gotta work on it so for now let's just concentrate on the backstory of the characters)

So the main thing:
Wasteland War

The 2 factions are fighting restlessly for dominance the sky kingdom is in ruin
The warriors are weakened it's only a matter now of time before one of the 2 factions falls
Suddenly the krills rise
They start k*ing everyone, it's a mess. Chaos and panic spreads on the battlefield.
Some try to hide, some are just too weak to find a refuge, some are just too tired of fighting and prefer dth over keeping to fight for some forgotten reason now.
The survivors decide to join forces with the enemies and develop weapons to fight the Dark Dragons.
Among the surviving warriors there's a young spirit, maybe she's even too young to stay there... Despite her young age she is very smart even sly we could say. She starts complotting to use the krills against the enemy faction even tho they have a truce rn for obvious reasons.
Somehow she develops a way to control krills and so she shares this sick idea of absolutely destroying the enemy and taking over the kingdom with her closest friend, an spirit just a few years older than her coming from the Valley of Triumph .
The friend doesn't seem to be happy about this, she's disgusted by her greed and evil,they tell her that that's a bad idea, that if she goes on with the plan they're going to report them to the generals.
The young girl is disappointed, she feels betrayed.
In an act of blind rage she knocks unconscious her now ex friend and runs away.
A few days later she appears in the distance leading a legion of krills.
The battle starts, everyone was prepared for this moment to arrive since they were warned by her friend.

After a long battle they are able to repell the krills and capture her.
She will be executed on the battlefield by getting krilled, a final humiliation... K*led by the very thing she wanted to use to take over.
Her cpse is now left there on the battlefield, taken over by darkness plants.
History refers to her as Traitor now, but the story isn't over.. For she has come back to take her vengeance over the people who betrayed her.
She will know no mercy,she'll get what she,wants in any way possible.
