exactly
lol, you may have not met Afrikaans then.
German + Dutch + a bit of French and you get that hybrid of a language.
as a writer, I fight English every day
So many languages are to be fair
My current idea of a creation myth goes something like this:
There was always Light and Dark. But in the before times, they were unconcentrated, wild. Eventually, the Light and Dark came together to create the Primordial Beings, The Megabird and The Megapod. These beings of Primordial Light and Darkness created the universe, the planets, the stars, chipping in equally in what was considered their creation. One planet was given Life. That planet was first a planet of water, created by the Megapod; then the planet had islands high above the water, created by the Megabird; then the planet had continents, created by the Megapod. On this planet they created living beings of Light, Dark, Neither, and Both. The beings of Dark lived deep below the waves, the beings of Light lived high in the clouds, and the beings of Neither and Both were spread throughout the land. The stars aided them in this creation, and all together, these deities created the world.
to be fair, the difference between German and Dutch is pretty nominal as it is. if Dutch hadn't existed as a language before German was codified it would have been included
there are dialects of German that are more different from each other than German as a whole is different from Dutch or Afrikaans
many languages are many languages
FINALLY DONE BACKREADING
This is the first one I’ve actually seen described so far where the deities in question create the planets. It’s one of those things where I could technically see it (due to the existence of colored lights) but the possibility that Megabird is just the creator of all of life and the stars and warmth makes a lot more sense to me on a personal level.
Personally I doubt there’s a darkness god, also specifically because of the way I believe light works as representing everything alive, with darkness on the outside as death and unchangeability. I also don’t believe in neutral beings (neither light nor dark) within the world. Am curious why Megapod is an isopod; if I had to assign darkness a fursona it would be a constrictor snake
Most mythos would present this idea that before anything was made, there would be chaos. From that chaos came a spark of light, and from that light comes order, or an action.
Primordials may not be exact opposites of each other, however can embody elements that contrast one another.
As for the stars falling, several mythologies would look to stars to being pieces of light that can either bring new life, represent the past, or even guide the present. Stars are as vital to the elements of life, as is Light and Darkness.
Ergo, a primordial can act as a god, although may not necessarily be gods.
in my mythos, the Stars are the Elders, and each Primordial Being has their own set of Elders (both Megapod and Megabird have their "child" so to speak, a Prince and Princess, because parallels are fun). when the Stars fell, it was because Megabird cast her own Stars from Orbit à la Lucifer Myth. If Megapod had cast his stars from the abyss then the world would've stopped functioning- the stars fulfill many roles such as controlling weather and other natural phenomena
(these are just my HCs btw im not claiming them as fact ! i just love to worldbuild)
May I ask if you would recognise Winged Light in Sky as Stars?
Even if the name has changed a long time ago, they still have that iconic trait of shining, twinkling and star symbology.
Being Children of the Light, they may play an important role in the lore.
the Winged Light are actually fragments of Alef in my mythos, they're what is left of his soul
I think they are, so maybe the “stars falling” could be a divine force sending WL to help the world
True,
The season of Performance gave a juicy nugget of lore about stars falling down.
Some would shatter and scatter to the ground, others end up as 'motes,' some become children of light, and some potentially become skykids
These are just theories and hypothesises, though are worth looking at.
Interesting, what are your thoughts on the king reincarnation theory?
I think “stars” could be little fragments of The Light, since they take many forms
It has a lot of weight, but I personally don’t believe it. After all, the devs have said the King “cannot be saved”
i think most beings in the sky world are stars of one sort or another
I’m not sure about Ancestors and Elders, though
although i do not believe the king to be reincarnated, i do think that Alef was the original skykid from which all others were inspired by. I say inspired by because he was still different...likely stronger in many aspects than modern skykids. for this reason we can absorb his memories throughout sky as a source of power. his memories are stronger than an ancestor's because he's a god
Actually, what if the Ancestors were born from the stars and the “stars falling” event was the fall of the Ancestor’s civilization?
Where does it say that ?
Has the king cannot be saved quote been sourced yet I’ve been looking for it for ages
it was in a livestream iirc, one rather long time ago. it was recorded in the Lore Doc
your lore doc isn't very well sourced ngl
fair enough - per my wip creation myth, the Elders are slivers of Megabird's favorite stars, though in reality i think they might have been some of the first stars to fall? and they made the bodies of the ancestors and filled them with their own light, which is why they can still be ascended but need to do it from the temples
From the canon doc https://youtu.be/UTqUZ_T1ccA
its not mine
it's a customer service stream tho
Which “lore doc”?
if it was mine it wouldnt be so ugly sjhgdhgfj
also, baudshaw, the one you just sourced
Isn’t your name in the lore doc?
Do you know who created it? I’ve always just seen it called “brickys lore doc”, hmmm
Sorta similar to what I think — Chosen One was the first skykid but also a prototype to the current generation of skykids. When they failed, Megabird made some tweaks to the design and bombarded the world with skykids v2. The exact changes I don’t know for sure given we don’t have Chosen One around to compare and contrast.
i think youre talking about something else...although i do know who made it i cant recall their name. they're not active in the fandom anymore tho
You made the lore moth doc tho, right ?
That is odd, I skimmed the entire video and there’s nothing of note, although someone named @thin dirge said that the video said “there used to be an Eden Elder, but now there’s nothing left to save”
its been admitted that the live stream quoted is not the one linked, that live stream wasnt archived. but early lore researchers (such as Seraph) insist that the quote is genuine and was at some point stated in a now-lost livestream
In Google Drive, it shows who created the doc, and the Canon Sky Lore doc brings up someone named “wingless bird”. Maybe a fossil?
The best source I have for the “king not around to be saved” anymore quip is from Seraph, but Seraph is a Skycord mod, not a dev
That's my main gripes about the way TGC disperses lore, we rely on word-of-mouth
This has become like archeology
You can tell by the number of pixels
omega count how many pixels are in this image
if i had a nickel for every pixel in that picture i'd have 50 cents
oh btw the stream screenshot on that pic is a lightseeker stream in japanese, sagomay found it for us a while ago, i think slink's pinned has it
i imagine that it was a twitch stream which dont stay up after so long (30 days i think?) so it got lost if no one archived it, but even then i dont like having an unsourced quote so i just kinda disregard it GNFHDB
i doubt theyd be lying, the fact its unsourced is annoyinng tho
If it’s unsourced, then it’s no better than heresy.
Also that livestream translation doc, hmm
our best bet is asking a dev to confirm the quote
Would the devs even remember who said it? It was over 2 years ago
they might not remember who said it, but they can confirm if its true or not
iirc when asked Sagomay about the “lost livestream,” Sagomay had no idea what we meant. Granted, they did find it, but at the moment questioned they had no clue
Pardon for digging in the lorechat. Here is the first instance of the "Hello new Lore Moff" doc being credited to Bricky by @tender dune
#lore-discussion-spoilers message
Yeah I happened to remember Ash said to ask a community dev when Sagomay showed up
here's my favorite, while we're talking about docs
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EY_T5k_c__D_ZoJFgQ0A4xsDIABW3gGhk1T2GSovZng/edit
Is it because it’s about the lightseekers
It’s because of the lightseekers, huh
The design of the masks also match the levels they’re from, though I don’t know if anyone has noticed them! Those small marks carry a message about each level.

vela "not patient zero" mr gay strikes again
I WAS JUST ABOUT TO QUOTE THAT I KEEP THINKIJG ABOUT IT, but I can’t figure out much of what it means except for laidback pioneers, which is
Scar across the eye — same event that made all the trees in boneyard broken
Tear represents rain in forest
Gonna file that bit of info away to ask about like the pigeon mask
#lore-discussion-spoilers message
Welp, found the weasel.
Closest source author is @hollow pier
thats the "lore doc" i made
im also one of the admins on the theory doc...speaking of which i should check if anyones suggested a theory to add
maybe double five’s mask looks like eyebags bc day elder is sleepy
yes ! wingsbutnohalo, it was them who made it
Am confused, but this one also has
Who’s the King?
The King is the presumed monarch of the Sky Kingdom. He is important to the lore, and is in game, just not in the way you’d expect. The little information about him comes from the concept arts and devs, so there’s lots of room for your personal headcanons. It is commonly accepted that the King is the Eden Elder. The Eden Elder is « not around to be saved anymore ».
Which is the information we’re contentious on
Pardon the not straight lines, I’m in a car but this caught my attention.
brb making Crab Whisperer middle-aged
its just a collection of everything we know, the lore moff doc is not a source unto itself
Found a source from a moderator (for what it is worth)
There was an eden elder, but something happened to him so he can no longer be saved
#lore-discussion-spoilers message
Again, that’s a mod, not a dev, so even then it’s contentious
my thoughts (i agree with your hc on pioneer)
its basically like a game of telephone at this point w that 1 quote
i love how head empty you drew them
I am aware and am digging for it still.
yeah. although i appreciate raider's digging, ive been here two years and i can say for certain the source of that quote is gone. we'll need to find some dev to confirm or deny the idea that the King is no longer around to be saved
Best bet is that shush’s is meant to mirror the scholar headdress and also the vault tower, trying to think about the others
the owl bit w shush reminded me of how a handful of of ts from vault have hints related to coffee/being a night owl
anyways i think there should b like nap time in vault me tjink they need it
Shush eastern screech owl fursona real
Though it’s often presented to lore moths as a source to get them “caught up” on everything. So I’d rather it’s veracity be held up to fruition
first thing i saw when entering this chat
ill be leaving now /j
afraid of the truth I see
thinking abt these lanterns with triangular shapes
OH YEAH THE SCHOLAR HEADDRESS + THE TRIANGLE MAKES THE WHOLE MEMORY LANTERN SHAPE HOW DID I NOT CATCH THAT
shushing light scholar my beloved
personally i trust that the quote is true - just because we cant find a source doesnt mean its made up, and i trust seraph. i know its not the best of academic rigour but personally i think its okay for a lil viddy game
Crab whisperers is the hardest to figure out poking at it
@nimble ingot reika answered this below, since ur looking for king stuff.
i like the war paint/scar idea, they went through some stuff
It kinda reminds me of a spear but hmmm
Yeah, it does!
the one time they came as a TS they forgot it 💔
This is actually a subtle reference to how spirits forget their memories and /j
i was thinking abt that when i googled the lightseekers spirit for the alignment chart
“huh, sls looks weird…where is the tall thing”
The prairie one reminds of boats too and the vault one may be a falling star trail as vault spirits' headdresses have that shape too
manifesting this spirit to come back before the end of the year bc they only came once then never again 💔
It’s because they d

eepy...
Performance guides favorite ice cream is pistachio and I will not be convinced otherwise
NO HOW DARE YOU
most of the vault spirits are on the older side I bet they have it already. Or they get like 2 hours of sleep a night no in between
Looking at that headstone react, Salami
me too bro
Dropping the every spirit is non-binary fun lore fact because Idk if birdlem knows yet and I think they would rlly enjoy it
yes!! i do and i love it sm
ITS MY FAVORITE LORE FACT, xe/xemming rain
i still use binary pronouns for some of em when writing just bc it can get confusing when everyone is "they" but yes
neos for valley elders too
valley elders are above gender. their gender is sports and chaos.
correct
I prefer using they/them as a blanket group, and also because I really enjoy myself being represented but I also really enjoy messing around with pronouns sometimes. Like everyone he/hims dawn because beard, essentially the most boring logic you can think of, I cancel it out with she/her
All spirits and elders are above gender :} gender isn’t real in Sky I love it
they/them because they're literally multiple people
Everyone uses they/them when I write, but if there’s a case for pronoun confusion, I just insert their names. There’s nothing wrong with using the characters’ names frequently.
Also neopronouns are rad
i think the ancestors would have neo bc they arent humans and dont have a gender binary
that's definitely fair. i think part of me is also nervous about messing with the fandom-in-general's interpretation of certain characters? i'm way more comfortable experimenting with my own characters
Alasdair credit
to add on to this, you can also give characters various titles/epithets to refer to them! ex i refer to the gloat spirit as the performer, the entertainer, the acrobat, etc
the scholar
also true! i get in my head a lot bc i grew up/started writing with a lot of Rules about How You're Supposed To Write
but what if the mods are HERE?!
Agreed.
When discussing the lore in general, going with they/them would do with referring to elders, or even spirits and skykids for that matter.
In Sky, the characters may not have a gender, as the lore is open to interpretation.
Even though some names would have an implication to a gender (ex. ferryman, cool forest aunt, grandma, king etc.), this may be up to the player's interpretation, while the an objective (as in non-biased) perspective would not have a gender.
If they were, they are welcome to give their 2 cents on the lore, as they have done once upon a time in Light Awaits.
Screw the fandom’s interpretation
me looking at anxious angler
i think the biggest power move is having a gendered title thats the opposite of one's gender presentation. my version of resh is very fem for that reason
fair enough! then again, there are absolutely nb folks who are comfortable with or prefer she/her or he/him, so i feel like it's acceptable to use them as well? as long as one isn't saying this character is cis
She/her Isle Elder. He/Him Forest Elder
i always feel kind of unsure what pronouns to use for my skykid ocs, because everyone in sky doesnt have a gender, so should they not have gendered pronouns as well?
just because they dont have a gender doesnt mean they cant use gendered pronouns.
expression =/= gender
Yea that’s true, but when blokes refer to Rain with she/her and call them Forest Mama, I know they’re going off of cisnormative norms
I have an art project that I want to do that's basically drawing all the Elders but as opposite to how most of the sky fandom sees them. So she/her Isle, Prairie, Valley Elder
, Wasteland and he/him Forest, the other Valley Elder
and Vault
pretty much all of my skids have multiple pronouns, and the ones that only use one set are they/them
Lumi is ly/lym/lyr or she/her or they/them
Wisp is they/them
Kestrel is he/him or they/them
Harken is she/her or they/them
Grim is they/them or krill/krills
etc
i saw lamed as a dude my first playthrough and was honestly surprised most folks saw them as a woman
mmm i see
im an enby myself but use any prns so for me its like “mm yes pronoun soup yummy”
I saw them as female because their head-covering reminded me of a hijab, but I get where the masc intepretation comes from
That may be a redundant point.
As using a gender would cause one's theory to be fanon or a headcanon. It makes discussing the canonicity of the lore (if any) a bit more difficult.
That said, it may either cause confusion among newer theorists, or annoyance to theorists looking engage with the lore.
Banter and jokes aside, one can reasonably deduce a King would not be feminine, neither would a Queen be masculine. Thus the english language did present a neutral title such as Ruler or Majesty.
While one can reasonably presume a individual with a flat chest and a long beard is masculine; or a figure in a long dress and long hair would come across as feminine.
When it comes to the lore of Sky, the binary extremes of gender (male vs female) have been left up for interpretation, and thus purposefully left up to the reader to interpret.
Some of them would literally invent pronouns just for fun, you can’t look at idk cannoneer and tell me they didn’t do that
I’ve always liked they/them for both
boom/boomself /srs
Similarly, the same can be said to the Valley twins.
With impressions from players ranging from both feminine, one of each gender, to both masculine; or even beyond that and being agender.
(clarified and corrected, apologies)
Psst Raider just so you know, it does kinda suck for me as an agender person to see characters with my gender be misinterpreted as up to interpretation. Would prefer if you didn’t imply that, Ty!
Wrong. They're obviously dangerous/armed
gender is whatever but i think the baseline we can all agree on is anyone's interp of sky character genders is valid
I'm verrrry sure it was canon they're agender but don't quote me on that
Every spirits' pronouns are were/was I don't make the rules I just do /J
Actually disagree. Them being agender is very canon and once again I’d prefer as an agender person if that was respected and not equated with up to interpretation.
I believe it was
at least one spirit survived the catastrophe so they could change all important figures' "are/is" to "were/was" on Skypedia
Different pronouns are fine, but also it’s worth noting that almost all the times I see people go “oh skys gender is up to interpretation” not only is it wrong, but also they always use it as an excuse to gender them through an obviously cisnormative lens and it’s super exhausting and defeats the purpose
Can't believe that'll be my last message because I have to go, c yall!
i suppose, salem, youre free to see it that way, and honestly youre correct
i am just very attached to certain hcs that go against that and they can be pried from my cold dead hands
It’s funny watching blokes fight over whether a spirit or Elder is a woman or a man, especially ones who got the genderfunk rolling like Mellow Musician or Cackling Cannoneer. Y’all, their gender is zilch
I don’t really get it as I never see people headcanoning cis binary characters’ genders as different from canon, but whatever I guess!
i highkey do this
i see that all the time. guess we run in different circles
ill also take my leave for now
and also because i actually need to focus on schoolwork
canonneer's gender is ev/il
any character i like or relate to is automatically not cis /hj
Apologies.
I was referring to players' impressions of the elders having a variety of interpretations. Hence the addition of "to any gender beyond that".
That as in being any gender that can be listed, included agender.
Canon lore taken into consideration, the elders may not have a gender.
Hope this clarifies things.
Just because they're nonbinary doesn't mean they're gender neutral
Cannoneer is gender evil
It’s one thing having your personal headcanons. It is another forcing gender onto canonically agender characters, in which is it disrespectful to nonbinary people in general
it's cool to take cis characters and use them to give representation to not-cis people
it's significantly less cool to take non-cis characters away from the people they represent
Especially when trans representation, especially non-binary representation, is so scarce
Thank you both so much, I really appreciate the support on this topic & it helps me a lot.💛 It just kinda sucks finally having a bunch of characters that represent my very rarely seen identity and then 90% of the fandom just stomps all over that anyways
of course! enby folk gotta stick together 💚

Digging to find the holy slink image
it's also annoying to have the gender convo for the 952285th time because some people still view the world through their tired cisnormative lenses
fun fact, in french a lot of spirits are gnc since we dont have neutral pronouns
tabbed out of rw to sned
some people were MAD at french he/him daydream forester
just gonna save it again since i didnt favorite the one i saved before
YEAH TY, I get the whole influx of new people and all that, and having to explain it for each person, but this is at least the tenth time I’ve had this discussion in this channel and it is anxiety inducing each time and can get exhausting easily
I have to laugh at the people getting genuinely angry over a spirit not having the super stereotypical gender they expected them to or I start crying
Also guys can have long flowery hair, nothing wrong with that
Epic embed fail
forgot that gifs don't work; it was a bunch of the guys from the musical Hair
some people will look at mellow musician and go "eyup that spirit is cis"
every time people go “oh this spirit is this gender in a language that doesn’t have gender neutral! that means they canonically have gender” i die i saw it happening with botanist and student a lot back during assembly
Saw people arguing over whether cannoneer was male or female once and neither side refused to back down and it made me laugh so hard I cried
they’re gay next question
Why didn’t you answer with neither?
It was a comment section and I was both too lazy to subject myself to that and also watching it continue was too funny to stop
cannoneer has a side shave, they're obviously nb
one time i tabbed into #questions-and-help and someone was complaining about “girl cosmetics,” never again
Did someone call the fun police??
no skybot
but hello
hi skybot
sometimes i open beta, see this kind of comment, then i close beta
i would say one should do their best to consider the world from the viewpoint of those not included in their values, and go from there
If your personal values says everyone has to be a man or a woman, then yea you should deny them
ok, good luck folks.
what is that supposed to mean ?
That’s ominous
i like giving spirits my friends neos when they remind me of eachother
xe/xem forest elder
ey/em wasteland elder
xe/hir ceasing commodore
omg ey/em
i just think it's more wholesome that way, projecting your friends on the spirits so you're reminded of them even when they are offline
that's so cute, i love that
why does nobody ask for me?
tbh i hc that ancestor language doesn't have pronouns
Because nobody wants you, barely functioning toaster.
It sounds like Skybot wants some gifted to them too.
skybot neopronouns?
chaos/chaoself
Not chaotic enough
what if pronouns that don't have anything to do with gender dimorphism
what if a pronoun for dark and a pronoun for light
what if a pronoun for animate and a pronoun for inanimate
what if there are more useful distinctions than body parts
I prefer toaster/crumbs
pronoun lore? #general-sky-discussion message
Lorechat really is unpredictable
now this is the kind of lore i like to see
This is absolutely nothing compared to the sheer terrors of math and Lapis
on a completely unrelated note my friend just asked abt how i identify and was trying to understand it. thanks man 🤍
Oh my gosh the maths
3 days
I went to bed, woke up, and yall were still at it
Whats lapis tho
a resource in minecraft you can use to enchant things
Much better if you don’t know
Ayo Vela, I for one hc the Valley Elders as being trans
As in they're Transformers, they're Combiners who turn into a motorcycle with a side seat attachment and constantly bicker about who gets to be the motorcycle and who gets to be the side seat.
I mean they technically are
oh that slaps
Their genders are vroom/vroom 🏍️
ive actually been making a conlang for sky, and the grammatical genders are Animate and Inanimate, however i have yet to get to pronouns, ive been having conniptions over verbs
if anyone wants me to ramble about conlang stuff i can do that. i am far too exciteable about language and how they reflect a culture
Lapis was someone who frequented lorechat up until February. Had cool theories, got banned for a reason
oh ? what happened ?
(you are allowed to dm me to explain)
Just gonna say Lapis really liked Vault Elder
thats foreboading
good bird, can we not mention what lapis did to get banned here /nm
They were so influential and chaotic that I January-February 2022 the Lapis era
i just remember them being very rude about someone’s timeline theory not being canon like. yeah dude that’s why it’s called a theory
who’s lapis again
edit nvm remembered
Gone
Oh no they sound like someone who would canonically be banned from Vault because they kept trying to harass the Vault Elder
Like 'notice me senpai' but way worse.
Anyways
does anyone wanna talk conlangs
anyways what if baby krill squeaked like gator hatchlings i tjink thatd b silly
Hey Alasdair what do you think about the Valley Elders genders being vroom/vroom🏍️
Been thinking about these
i think it’s neat that they disappear when you lay down in orbit (probably just a bug bc it happens in all water but yeah)
THE ELDERS REGAINED ENOUGH STRENGHT TO HELP US I AM SO !! THE EVERS
I would want to hold them and love them and then run from the mama Krill and raise them to be friendly Krills.
holding a lil krill like a ferret just
Vela this is for you hehe :> The Valley Elder pronouns are vroom/vroom and I will die on this hill
i hope we get masks for the other 3 realms i would actually die /positive
samekh masks pspspsps
Sunset sheild mask would be interesting cos the shield masks mirror the Elders’ masks and Sunset’s masks are featureless
inb4 glowing faceless
what if they gave a prop
the sticks
AWWWWWWW
ILY TOO
Give us paddles, finally skykids have a weapon
but couldnt they do arson whenever they wanted to
a healthy life of crime requires a variety of felonies !
true true
this oc is so cool I hope nothing bad happens to them ever
These pics are when after bad things happened to them
well darn
They got Day Elder’s shield mask out of it though
I’m sorry I had to make that joke, (confession I already knew about the bad things)
But yeah on the topic of elder shields because Id LOVE to talk about them. Do you think the spirits with elder masks in each realm (rejecting voyager for example) had them before they died and we just buy the spirit version, because that would be extremely sweet
SO TRUE, I personally prefer the pronouns in question not being based on specific categories but there’s a handful of them and the person in question just chooses which they want based on vibes
I have a theory that the reason the other elder masks haven’t dropped is because they’re still figuring out how to do sunsets
unrelated to anything, but i'm hanging out in Harmony Hall and i've determined that Performance Guide and Frantic Stagehand are QPPs
I have a (very much joke) theory about that. I totally agree but also… iirc you don’t really see them interact similarly during quests. Also performance has an identical twin whose only distinguishing features are easily changeable (hair and clothes)
suspicious
what does qpp stand for
I mean they did drop the Rose and the Void despite not knowing how to make a guide that's not just a spirit with a different model so TGC would probably just drop an elder mask without the glowy thing
queerplatonic partners!
OH
yes
i agree with that statement
Queerplatonic partnership! Essentially, a relationship that falls outside the boundaries of both a strictly romantic and strictly platonic one
on the topic of harmony hall- you know how there’s that area at the top, across from the aurora mural, with the painted backgrounds for the stage? i was looking, and i noticed the eden one is being painted differently than the one we actually see at the stage. wondering if someone just got creative with the colors or whether there’s something there
this post brought to you by i wanna color it in tgc art season when
perhaps its just unfinished? that’s why its hidden away ish
oh it's definitely unfinished, i was more looking at the diamond at the top
you're good! i'm probably overthinking it bc i saw Performance Guide doing the evil laugh emote while standing in front of it tbh
i need to see that
Inb4 it’s foreshadowing for shattering that we didn’t pick up on
also, crab whisperer being crab whisperer
They’re just doing a shush impression don’t mind them
They’re sleepy
Crab Whisperer: laying on the floor, asleep
iydll: What is this?
Wake them and they’ll bite
i gave them a hug

Unfortunately this server doesn’t have a designated writing channel, however people like to link their writing here or in promo, some do im fanart channels but those tend to prioritize visual art over writing^^;
hey @keen shore am i allowed to dm you ?
I would prefer if you wouldn’t as I get very anxious over dms, thank you! We can talk here if necessary.
okay. i just wanted to apologize if during the earlier discussion about the gender of the characters in sky i hurt your feelings or came off as rude. im trans myself and for personal psychological reasons i just have weird hangups about things related to gender. i didnt intend for anything i said to be offensive however i can see how it could be read as such and in that case im sorry.
Yes hello. Is there something I can fix
we were talking about the lack of source for the eden elder cant be saved thing
Regarding that doc, is there any consensus about what this refers to?
Lore hints from Ash:
“A fun crab lore fact: there's a specific reason for the way that Sky's crabs walk the way they do. their walkcycle mimics something...
Its the walk cycle, but what that mimics is also relating to what the crabs are, technically. How crabs are born/made/created/come to be. What are crabs 🦀”
Just wanna add that one should be sure not to let one’s own personal gripes harm other people. It’s something one handles internally, especially if it something as sensitive as gender.
You’re not the first — this has come up before many many times, so I just want to plug a piece of a relevant Reddit post for anyone to read. It’s about non-binary Undertale characters, but it rings true for Sky as well.
The Reddit post if anyone wants to read it in full: https://reddit.com/r/Deltarune/comments/uj8m5i/frisk_chara_and_kris_are_nonbinary_and_why_it/
Struggling to find the correct phrasing for responses as I’m all over the place rn but I wanted to mention real quick that I was also focusing on the fanbase as a whole, and also that I have done the “don’t worry it’s just my headcanons” and “up to interpretation” dances so many times that it kinda blurs together at this point and do my best to shut it down as fast as possible if that makes sense
they waddle around dont they? their little legs move in opposite directions. maybe a bit like lizards
Surprised the post lasted long enough to have that many comments
Plenty of time ago I made a post to that sub regarding nb Kris but it got locked within minutes (before anyone had even the chance to comment)
my theory that I’ve been kicking around for a bit is that they’re corrupted jeyllfish! (Sorry for the change in topic btw, just wanted to get this out & bc anxiety)
- Similar number of tentacles and legs. (It might actually be the same but I keep forgetting to count…)
- Crabs flip when you deep call near them, and jellies call back when you deep call near them; both the only creature responses to your call
- Calls sound extremely similar to the point of easily being confused for each other
- Jellyfish stay in one specific area and circle it without moving far away, so do crabs
- although they are not that visually similar it is somewhat easy to visualize how jellyfish could become a crab especially because they are so immaterial(?) jelly-y? Not the right word but I hope it comes across.
- often but not always found in the same areas
I think it’s best not to touch that right now /srs
I think that if somebody tells you it's not the time then it's best to not insist
(Just to clarify I have no idea what's going on here)
why are you dragging up a message from june that could potentially cause a lot of conflict in the channel
While we gossip about Lapis cos they’re no longer in the server, the person Vela is referring to is which is against the rules to gossip about server members. Also what Spade said.
I strongly encourage you to delete that message.
Thank you
woah ive never considered that. brb gonna count tentacles
6 tentacles !
skrunkly
oh yes enjoy my little skrungle skykid
They process of corruption could’ve made them lose a pair of legs, like I’m pretty sure whatever krill used to be did not have that many legs to begin with
true, flying light creatures tend to not have legs
My personal headcanon is that they’re manta wing bones but I have nothing to prove it with
mantas dont really seemto have bones. they seem to just be. cartiladge
floppy
i mean these are fantasy mantas so who knows
Darkness could’ve petrified & hardened the cartilage
I have no proof but no doubts either moment
Am fully aware that krill being corrupted manta conglomerates is likely not canon, I’m just putting it down because it’s a headcanon of mine that I really enjoy and would explain the “Hey where do krill legs even come from” problem
i like ur krill headcanons i steal them when you’re not looking
Same, though I’m split between krill are conglomerates versus krill used to be larger light creatures like whales, but I’m looking at the leviathan for the latter
step 1: get whale
step 2: stick mantas on the whale
step 3: krillification
we know krill are corrupted light creatures...maybe what they were originally have all been corrupted so we dont have surviving examples of pre-corruption krills ? like. all of population A turned into population B so we dont know what population A looks like
that’s another theory! we’re honestly not sure, but i do like the horror aspect of krill amalgamations
That makes me really happy to hear, thank you! I adore it when my headcanons get stolen
i was thinking of your krill when i wrote the tsadi piece
which i need a name for i’m getting tired of calling it “the tsadi piece”
Oh my god… that made my night thank you so much
gnight lorechat
gn iydl !
whats it about i can try to generate a name
tsadi dies in it
Full explanation of my headcanon for context:
- Going into this I need to explain something. I have a similar headcanon concept that since memories & personality seem to be encoded in light, hence spirit memories, that the soul-light of various creatures can merge and often does so to form elder creatures such as the elder manta, hence why they vaguely look like a bunch of mantas copypasted behind each other. Ancestors can also do this but typically only do it under extreme circumstances (tearful light miner is an example) and I can explain more.
Now for the actual headcanon. Spoilered for possibly disturbing content just in case.
||Krills are what happen when a bunch of mantas are drained via refineries and dumped together in a massive pile to be disposed of. With very little light remaining, they naturally begin to seek out and merge with each other, as if creating an elder manta; however, due to the corruption inside their bodies they are already sick from the inside out. The darkness eats away all their soft flesh, twisting and sharpening their skeletons, until the krill remain.||
IM TRYING TO THINK OF A NAME BC YOURS ARE ALWAYS SO GOOD,
i’m honestly debating if i want to name it bc i’m still holding on to the idea that it could be part of a bigger thing but idrk at this point. i don’t have ideas for that bigger thing
you have my full attention
[coughs]
lets see
Fallen Warrior
The Final Battle
Ultimate Price
theres a few. go crazy. go stupid. i love killing elders its my favourite pasttime (-resh)
I would 100% name it but I do not have the poetic skills to give it justice, maybe something like a torch is extinguished?
depends on the kind of title you want. short stories or chapters of larger stories have different naming conventions than names of novels or series
and depends if you like short and sweet or more elaborate titles
its like "The Sandman" vs "The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" like do u want 2 words or fifty
i like scrolling through lists of words and finding something that kinda vibes and maybe turning it into a phrase or sentence as a title or keeping it as a single word title
hmm
im more biased towards things like;
Mors in tenebris
LATIN my hated
i dont like titles in latin they always seem so pretentious
/lh
i usually stick with phrases, i like salems so i’ll probably lean in that direction, stuff usually just figures itself out
then translate it into English
Death in Darkness
could be a line or phrase from the story itself
yes thats always a good one !!
i love when stories make their title a line from the story that comes through in big emotional moments
I’m too shy to write fics so i just drop headcanons and watch in satisfaction as all my writer friends run off with them
that's so cool. one series i read had the same starting and ending line. across 12 books. it ended how it started, it's great
i’m leaning towards something about the sun. bc dusk
This sounds like a Kikuo song waiting to happen
"Blood Runs Below the Setting Sun" ?
OH RIGHT especially because of the sun getting obscured because of the clouds, how does something like bleeding light into shadow sound bc.
I'm thinking of lines from your fic that I remember. "Running Out of Kindling." "A Lone Flame." "Dusk Ended as the Darkness Rolled In."
how about Solstice
idk just a random mildly relevant word, i havent read the thing
[with full intention of giving spade a heart attack] yeah let us read it then we can give it a name /j
I've read it – Spade is an excellent writer. I envy em at times
Spade, may I DM you?
uhhh sure
fic server?
fic server ?
fic server! (clueless)
a fic server would be fun
fic server?
lets make a fic server
What the heck
isnt there already one
There are a bunch but they're a bit deader
Your server is good
That fishing pole looks like the staff laughing light catcher uses to grab light
there's also a bit of light in it. if it's "bait" then light creatures, at least the fishy ones, might eat light
So.. On the crab walkcycle thing. I was just thinking that maybe it's about the shape of the path they follow?
I watched a crab for approx 2 mins (lol) and tried to draw its path
Probably doesn't mean anything tbf, plus I don't have a steady hand
looks like a dark plant sprout ngl
I was thinking Ash's quote referred to the movement being analogous to a jellyfish bobbing up in down in generally the same spot, not really moving
i noticed that. its a weird way to fish...also alasdair i think fish eating light goes back to a super old concept art where the dead bodies of light creatures would end up in the water and would be eaten by fish à la whalefall. at least that was my interpretation anyways
Also I guess this mural in Sanctuary supports the jellyfish -> crab theory
The 3 look pretty much the same but the one in the middle is def a crab
I think it’s just a random jelly doodle honestly! The mural clipping just makes the jellyfish look short as murals are placed as models over the surface beneath, meaning on curved surfaces like this they often clip!
This makes me imagine a squishy light crab
It would be one of those creatures that looks cute but is constantly fighting for its life
the hana and taion rework
basically all i did was switch their masks but hana has chronically low light so they cant leave their butterfly sanctuary and that reminded me of what alasdair (?) ssaid about darkness sickness so
Hana is a mood
Yeah that makes sense. Although the one in the middle does have its pairs of tentacles more separate from one another than the other 2 jellys
thanks i care [them? her? i know spirits are nonbinary but hana is a skykid]
what is a pronoun? a miserable little pile of secrets,
I don’t care about skykid gender since they’re usually peoples ocs!!
i read that word for word in dracula's voice from that one animation where hes throwing wine glasses everywhere
i have no idea what you are talking about but i really want to
i would share it here but i cant. i could dm it to you if youd like though
that would work
done
anyways has lore chat already discussed the implications of skykids eating marshmallows yet
how do they obtain marshmellows in the first place
there's no sugar plant
I'm of the opinion that skykids are nonbiological thus don't have a need to eat, but they can if they want to for fun or whatever.
you can get sugar from any plant that produces nectar - sugarcane is just very good at that
right
but like
have we SEEN sugarcane in the environment? are the jars sometimes filled with sugar?
is there a DIFFERENT plant (based on light) that the sky people could've obtained sugar from?
if anything, they sustain themselves on light, hence their flame acting as a constant source of light. they could absorb light in an eating manner if it's in the shape of food, which the muffins from the Days of Bloom teaset and the marshmallows could be. the mochi Granny serves could also be a sort of treat where they burn away the exterior for the light inside
i'm just saying that there hasn't really been any complete association as to how the actual civil economy of the sky overworld would've come together, only the bits and pieces that we're able to see in the game's 7 accessible realms. i'm definitely able to accept that this just was never the focus of the game in the first place, so there's no need to worry about it, just that....little inconsistencies like these urk me the wrong way
exactly-----wait...
....sugar-light?? :0
the Prairie Elder pin poem from thatskyshop regards Prairie as having farmlands. perhaps Prairie was the agricultural hub of the kingdom where produce was grown and exported to the other realms
hmmm!
i totally get you klari. i keep trying to come up with theories as to how the economy and politics of the kingdom worked but none of them are very satisfying. what especially irks me is the implication via the shipwreck in wasteland that there was once overseas trade...but overseas trade with who ?
was the ark a ship for overseas trade? or was it one of a few attempts at traversal to Eden/Orbit?
or, as a compromise, was the Ark a lot more like a commuter/airliner to get between (what was previously the downtown/center of) Eden and the surface of the world?
because, i noticed--- that the clouds themselves can have a separate ground from the actual surface of the planet, and from trying to get to the wind path tunnel in Sanctuary from the bottom of the island, there's literally nothing holding up those "mountains" above the clouds
and that it's REALLY difficult to get up there without your cape AND the help of a manta to ferry you up
same with the start of the game, going up to the first elder temple, in the Isle of Dawn
the Forgotten Ark seems to be an escape vessel, an attempt to get away from the storm. however im talking about the shipwreck in wasteland that's connected to the graveyard. it looks like a port of some sort, but the sky world doesnt seem large enough to warrant that
ohhhhh
huh.. maybe you're onto something then
actually...
the ancestors could've shipped things within the kingdom by sea rather than land. the crabfields boat looks too big to fly imo
now that makes me wonder.
...how, aside from "magic" / "it's just the natural way of the world", does the kingdom of sky stay where it is? if it's all on a giant cloud/storm, shouldn't external currents shift the kingdom around a few very distant places on the surface world?
like, the isle of dawn and the bird sanctuary almost feel more transient, since the entire kingdom could potentially be shifted somewhere else geographically over a very long timespan
its def a seafaring vessel. but aside from sanc, it doesnt seem like any of the other realms have a coast connected to a big vast ocean like the wasteland
granted there could be more of the world that is currently covered by clouds
only other realm is the isle of dawn, as going up to the first elder temple brings you up to the actual kingdom
Starlight dessert?
yeye. sometimes i wish sky was an open world game lol
starlight desert is...eeeeeeeh. i mean, its existence is debateable, theres the possibility its a dream/etc, similar to the middle levels of vault
really hard to put a finger on where exactly the starlight desert is, as it seems a bit TOO dreamy to actually exist somewhere in the kingdom
there is a wind path to the Starlight Desert, so it'd be safe to say it's location is real if you wanna muse whether what's within it is or not
the giant books? the giant lantern? the giant jar that's literally it's own server?
in that case, i wonder where those dreamlike objects came from
I feel like they took TLP as a chance to implemen some early ideas
Like this (from 7 days of Sky https://mobile.twitter.com/thatskygame/status/1284645576881999872?s=21&t=3i13C8fDomxEEWzlZxQnzw)
This has strong Starlight desert vibes
it could be half-real ? maybe there is a little desert area beside vault but its not actually as...dreamy ?
really, do we know where the VAULT is?
like yes it comes after the wasteland, and has a main elevator that brings you up to eden (if that elevator sequence really exists), but you can't see the vault "tower" from the skybox of the desert, so it's hard to tell
i mean you CAN see Eden from the desert, but it seems....farther...than it should be.
anybody else notice that? not only is the desert farther away than the valley, but you can't even see the vault from the desert
unless the vault itself is within the mountain, i guess that could explain it
yeah its really weird. you only see the vault tower from the entrance to eden that only has the top of the tower
honestly begs the question of HOW FAR DID OUR POOR LITTLE SKYKID HAVE TO WALK TO GET HERE LMAO
re: where the objects came from – there's a thought that the Starlight Desert is imbued in purple light, hence its color. purple light, as seen from the final Enchantment quest, can create objects. perhaps the ancestors who wandered in the Starlight Desert unintentionally used the purple light to create the islands where they remained trapped by their vices.
re: location of the Vault – the Vault seems to be inside the Eden mountain, hence why you can't see the tower, cos the tower is underground. you do exit the top of the Vault into Eden and, if you turn around, you can see the top of the Vault right behind you. I would show a pic if I wasn't doing a cr right now, but just before the Eden gate, you can turn around and see a structure poking out of the ground. that's the Vault summit.
there is also a piece of concept art that depicts the Vault inside the mountain, a piece of concept that seems to have survived development to in game.
re: location of Starlight Desert – it's implied that the tunnel to the Starlight Desert is very long. yes, there's a fade to black, but you walk a while from both the entrance and the exit before the transition cuts in. we don't know how for sure how long of a trek that was, but it seems it takes you far outside the mountain to Starlight Desert.
I’ve always liked to imagine the desert is a part of wastelands desert that got affected by vault, especially with wasteland being the realm associated with older adulthood (and midlife crisis which, gestures)
here's the concept I was talking about
wait, is the elevator going UP?
or DIAGONAL?
yea concept elevator made a zigzag
huh. so like one of those funnicular elevators in like halflife or resident evil, the platforms that take you down into the evil lair, or up to raise you out
And here’s the top of Vault as seen before the Eden gate
at the top of the mountain, of course
Not really cos we still climb up the mountain after leaving the Vault.
Also here’s the structure at the top of the Vault as shown when I got the red metal glitch
well, "top"
approaching the summit where civilization bothered to carve out/build up Eden
oh????
whazzat?
Also at gw temple, there's this huge wall behind the temple. I wonder if it's vault itself or at least a wall built into the mountain to protect the entrance to vault
There’s a glitch where the game takes on a shiny, metallic look or assets look incredibly dark.
Here’s the Vault all shiny and the structure of the Vault summit blacked out by it
that's absolutely amazing and imposing and i love it
but i specifically meant that strange symbolic assemblage on top of the vault tower
It also looks funky during shards
It’s similar to these designs along the wall of the Vault first floor
yeah,,,
Idk why, it gives me science like feels to it. But now will be thinking about what it could actually mean
(I took a screenshot of your picture to draw on it 😆 @frigid tinsel )
do you guys ever think abt the fact that we have cosmetics related to animals not in the game......
how can we recreate them if we havent seen them? maybe they lived once
.....that's a really good point
that is an interesting qiestion actually
i mean
||before days of mischief||, did we know ||cats|| were alive in the game? maybe they're all in another world too? i wonder about them
the world if we could talk about beta in this channel tbh
oh? 👀
were there cats in previous mischief events i do not remember
im pretty sure they were mentioned 😭
just in case im spoilering...... saving myself
my brain is like a sieve so it will remain a mystery
oh and another thing ! before season of abyss, we didnt know creatures like the king krill, or that cool slim blue fish existed !
this suggests that there are any number of creatures existing that we dont know abt!! i wonder what else we haven't seen, in-game or from cosmetics, that exists out there?
gods know that the world sky exists in is much bigger than the game shows
i wish i knew what lies beyond my sight
Wait, Bricky's back?
Ha missed it.
OMG GUYS!!!!!
Hey guys, better go check out the beta discussion channels if you care about the game
some people don't want spoilers
I didn't give away any spoilers though
but caring about the game doesnt mean looking at beta
If you don't want to check it, don't. That message if for those who want to
Bobbit and i would just like to mention that after completing a red shard event and when visiting a memory the spirit guide turns to its original blue hue with the shattered look in comparison to the red look it has at home ^^ 💜
I don't know if anyone else has stated this before
But does anyone wonder are there any land beyond the kingdom of sky?
There's gotta be some unexplored territory?
its believed that seasonal areas are the unexplored territory finally uncovered, although i guess its still connected to skydom
@frank goblet based on events in the starlight desert, the vault is walking distance from Eden to begin with
it's actually not that long of a walk, one of the quests sees an NPC make the trip on foot
I like to think that Eden and the vault was an attempt to harvest the light
The prince? Of Eden tried to build ancient technology especially the big diamond to stabilize that said energy so they could use it in their technology
But the big diamond harvesting mechanism malfunctioned and
Added impurities to the main said source of light
And it got corrupted instead
Leading to the destruction of Eden
Also it's a personal theory of mine that elders are long dead during the current events of the sky
Possibly due to aging maybe
Or maybe deprivation of a light source
As we sky kids go to their temple
And meditate in order to enter another dimension entirely where the spirit of the elders remain
We reawaken them.
@frigid tinsel had this idea of "outer [realm name]" for areas off the beaten paths that are usually more difficult to explore because they aren't cleared and arranged by skykids; for example, the outer wasteland would be even more barren and devoid of light to recharge at.
I think it's a really neat idea I might incorporate in my own stories because it's areas a skykid wouldn't typically go in since there's not a lot of things of interest, unlike areas such as the sunny clearing in forest or the shipwreck in wasteland that are detours from the path to the next realm but still interesting enough to be frequented; so it's great to create your own new areas such as hideouts and shelters made by skykids, or lonely spirits ocs for them to meet :]
I've also messed with the idea of other areas in the realms off the beaten paths that don't have too much interest for sky kids so they're not frequented as you said, specifically in Hidden Forest.
I loved the idea of Concept Forest luring you deeper into the woods while you slowly drain of light and basically made a krill kid who was like that. They could use the light they consume from sky kids to change their appearance for a certain amount of time so that by the time you realize they're not who you think they are, you're long lost and too far for any sky kid to come and save you
whenever i write i always use areas such as sunny forest/shipwreck/any seasonal area etc. as the “ooh cool place that i havent seen before” for my ocs. probably because im not creative enough to make new ones
Outer forest with stronger rains for less lanterns giving light; umbrellas become a necessary survival tool and the farther in you go, the less likely you are to find someone, let alone a fellow skykid...
This is a bit of a weird question but for if you took away the teleportation aspect and House, what place in the realm would logically be the main hub/village for the skykids when they aren't on their way to Eden? I tend to think the Wind Paths would be some sort of capital but I wanted to know if you had any theories
Prob the social spaces.
Tbh I see skykids are moving around a lot, could stay in one place for a while but seldom settling down
i wanna say valley? im pretty sure it was a prosperous city (correct me if im wrong)
I see outer Prairie kinda like the Prairie caves OOB — just miles and miles of grassland, maybe the occasional derelict farm.
Thank you
That's just rural France /j
The American Midwest
Prairie roads, take me home
To the place
I belong
half of britain
I do like the idea that there are groups of Skykids who are acquainted to a realm more than the rest, for example: a Prairie kid would have a difficult time adjusting to Wasteland, as they can't fly anywhere freely, Wasteland kids spend more time on ground or using tunnel networks to get around safely
Ooooo
Yes! I have an oc that spent basically all of their time in prairie, so when they get to forest theyre like “wait RAIN? WHAT IS THIS”
OHHH YEAH
WASTELAND KIDS BEING GOOD AT SAVING THEIR LIGHT
I'd see them seeking out high places to glide from instead of wasting cape energy flying up :]
My Wasteland Navigators are used to conserving their cape power or carry around lighting props like torches
i wanna eventually see climbing added to Sky because trying to fly up a wall is agony
also quinn being a forest kid w/o an umbrella is just reckless quinn
not that he uses his umbrella for anyhthing but unbrellla jousting
Could they have discovered other means to fly maybe
Maybe using wind gliders
Or something similar to the paraglider in botw
Or they could have domesticated the light Manta rays as a means of travel similar to the loftwings in Skyward sword
Ooooo I had this idea a while ago for ancestors
small brain leak but
I feel like there would be 2 archetypes of Eden skid - pre-calamity and post-calamity
the former could be split into nobles, which are less competent at survival, knights, which would be leaders in the post-calamity era, and citizens
and the latter could be people who just liked the eden vibe and decided to stay
The darkstone wheelchair
I do have a kid who spends most of their time climbing in Wasteland, only 3-5 wedges, they're a healer but also a thief, so suspicion wouldn't be cast on them first of all
I have a capeless skykid who wanders outer Wasteland. Can’t fly cos capeless but they’re a good climber and a very fast runner. They’ve been likened to a coyote.
my sky kid is of the Knight category - high up enough to receive a King Manta cape (suggests a position as Captain?) but not high enough to have not absorbed complex survival tactics
i used to have an oc that got around by tying balloons to themselves
Hey, if it works, it works
Eden might be also the home of priests who want to gain enlightenment or ascension because vault and Eden carry similar themes regarding ascension or enlightenment (although enlightenment is the way to to get out of constant re incarnation cycle and the cycle of constant suffering but the themes of Eden kinda contrast the concept of enlightenment as your skid constantly reincarnates? After they lose their light/candle/life force)
memories do not seem to reset or be stored out of reach after being reincarnated though - Grandma still knows how to make the best bread balls in all of Sky despite ascending multiple times a day
Hmmm that's weird
Idk how to explain
Then i may wonder what happens to the sky kids after they lose their life force?
their physical body stops being animated by Light because it has run out, and then this blue spark floats out of them - the Soul that ascends
Interesting
Random thought:
Do skykids have access to media and do they produce movies and shows? Or do they just do that in theatres? I want to see a sky equivalent of Good Omebs ehehe
Small question... If skykids were to exist in the real, how tall do you think they would be?
Probably around 3-4 ft
chibi is a solid 2 1/2
I believe someone measured it! #lore-discussion-spoilers message
They range from 2 foot 3 inches to 3 foot 10 inches
well, I wasn't wrong about the chibis
What
I thought that was the Sky equivalent of a wheelchair for a sec
To be fair it could also act as a wheelchair
It IS a wheelchair
Modify it a bit and you get a hovering chariot.
So now I want an Ancient Roman-inspired season in Wasteland
ABYSS I WOULD KILL FOR THAT DO NOT GIVE ME HOPE
they’ve been likened to a coyote
I wonder who did that! It’s such a good fursona assignment ! /j
THE IMAGE
theory: light whisperer is the youngest of the flight crew. their hair is just grown out moff hair
That’s actually canon! It was given in the little hints they had when introduced let me see if I can find it
yo wait i love that
#news message yeah!!
i love being right
SO TRUE
i found a perfectly skid-sized cubby in Wind Paths and my new headcanon is that Light Whisperer used it as their hiding spot for hide-n-seek every single time until they outgrew it
my character Kestrel has now claimed it as his
I already want to make Grecian/Roman cosmetics based off the Olympians might as well make an entire area-
Valley got a whole coliseum, I think a season adding spirit racers in manta chariots to the races would fit here so much
I refuse to see the Romans make a return they're gone for a reason
It does, but it already has so many seasons and I also want the chariot races to be mainly "practise" for in-training soldiers in Wasteland or something
Krill riding
Chariots introduced in the new fake season and final quest has you ward off krill in a chase sequence to protect the army encampment
I’m split between wanting a Roman season and also agreeing with this
Horrible timeline: all the spirits talk in Latin and I have to translate it for lore
Voice-acting but it's now canon that the Ancestor's language is Latin
NO
Had a horrible dream once that they made Julius Caesar canon to sky and I had to translate DBG for lorechat and I woke up with tears of terror streaming down my cheeks
i would happily join in the translation efforts
I cannot tell if this is a joke but judging by the lack of tone indicator at the end, I'm assuming that actually happened to you and I am so sorry you had to go through that
YOU ALSO KNOW LATIN, crying we really are just mitosised
not only do i know (some) latin, i actively enjoy translation
I also enjoy but simultaneously hate it
I'm useless unless you give me google translate. Will happily over-analyse poems and vague pieces of writing in English though. I will highlight sentences, make footnotes, and look like I have lost my mind
If the ancestors spoke Latin it’d make sense since Latin is a dead language and all the ancestors are dead
fair fair, i was majoring in linguistics before i dropped out of college
I’m sorry Abyss but google translate is completely useless for Latin, you will have to learn this hell language with us
Canon: speaking Latin is exactly what killed them all
grammar and sentence structure is my favorite part of Latin because it just isn't
SO TRUE that’s simultaneously the best and worst part because then you have to go searching for what adjectives go with which verbs and match case wise but there’s 5 declensions and you have to consider them all and
On second thought maybe I should try Classical Greek and idc if that's worse I am hyperfixated on the greek gods
Good luck Abyss
If Irish refuses to take root in my brain I gotta fill it with something else
i know english and french, used to be fluent in hebrew, and have smatterings of irish, welsh, swedish, and russian (oh and i guess some latin in there somewhere too but mostly theoretical)
i feel you
when thinking about the ancestor language i am hooked on Hebrew ngl. its such a pretty language in its own way, i love it
i love semitic languages. all the flavours of arabic, ancient egyptian, hebrew, coptic, theyre all so cool and complex. theyre my main language inspirations for the conlang im making for my fic
I absolutely do not have the brains for language learning all of my knowledge gets deleted every 2 months
i really like hebrew being the basis for ancestor language because of the whole elder names hebrew letters thing
Language learning I can take but only if done correctly, otherwise I am lost and no, you cannot bring me back
language learning is funky. if you just do it enough it becomes second nature. i speak french at school but english at home yet ive been speaking french so long that even if i go months without speaking it i can hop right back in when school starts. its like riding a bike
Does anyone know who the next travelling spirit is?
i haven't spoken french on a regular basis in years, but when someone speaks to me in french i just automatically speak french back
yeah ! its fun to add in things from hebrew language and culture to sky ngl. although its also meant that i have an inordinate amount of random trivia knowledge about judaism that i have no idea what to do with because my family is a mormon-turned-witch, a protestant, and an athiest (me)
i grew up in a jewish household and while i don't hold with the god-related beliefs i do like a lot of the tenets that basically boil down to "be a good person, give back in your community, and take care of those in need"
yeah ! i really enjoy that aspect of it
ngl ive considered converting a few times and i think its hilarious that researching video game lore has made me want to join a religion/group
the great thing about Judaism is that it's not just a religion, it's also a culture, and there's very much a feeling (at least in the community where i grew up) that "we are your people, you don't need to hold every single one of our beliefs to be one of us"
yeye. although from my research about the conversion process its a little bit much for me so i just lurk yanno, following jewish blogs and artists, reading about cool stuff when i can, that sort of thing
i mean, i hadn't been to synagogue in years at the time of my back surgery, but my parents' rabbi still came and visited me in the hospital
i learned spanish in school and im just like. my brain cant hold all the words in the basket
this might have something to do with the amount of English words i know but who can say
my brain is super wired for pattern-recognition and language learning so it's something i've always loved and taken to very naturally
same. i have early hominid brain and im just. patterns everywhere. i will learn all the languages and see all the patterns
what is language but a complex set of overlayed and interlocking patterns?
exactly !!!!
its just. super hard to create those patterns manually. conlanging is harder than it seems
god yeah, i was into it for a while in high school and college but never got very far
my brain just. "this pattern of sounds/phones is represented by this pattern of characters and holds this meaning" = words
I want to conlang but the only language I know fluently is English and I'm currently learning German (which is really English-but-harder) so--
i got to do some really fascinating and informative work in college with documenting a dying Native American language that has no written system and that gave me a lot of Interesting Conlang Thoughts
you dont need to be multilingual to conlang. you just need to know how grammar works and what kind of grammar and sounds would be fitting for the thing youre making
god help you if you're inventing your own alphabet, though
nah writing systems are easyyyyy
unless theyre semitic because i have always struggled with making those
syllabaries ? logographies ? abjads ? alphabets ? piece of cake
but i am far too vowel reliant to make semitic writing systems work. thats the main challenge of the current sky conlang
god that's so valid. i guess growing up learning hebrew made vowels very optional for me? but i have a hard time inventing sets of characters because the options are so infinite
there's a limited number of phones the human body can produce, and they naturally group together in a variety of ways, but there's literally no cap on how many ways they could be visually represented
yeah. i know modern hebrew has vowels but that ruins the Aesthetic™️
technically speaking modern hebrew is a conlang
i remember one time i was talking to someone in this channel about hebrew and they claimed it was a dead language that no one spoke
ive literally watched a movie that was entirely in hebrew before
i-
one could make that argument for biblical hebrew, but even that's kinda baseless considering the entire jewish scriptures are written in it and are still read and understood every day
yeah. like, hundreds of thousands of ppl dedicate their lives to reading, speaking, and understanding biblical hebrew. thats not a dead language, sweaty /lh
anyways since you speak hebrew (or spoke...either way you know more than me) what are some interesting linguistical things you think would be cool for a sky conlang for ancestors to speak ?
there is no hebrew verb for "to be"! i think that's a really fun fact
ooo. so how do you say something "is" something ?
you just say "it blue" or "I tall"
it just completely cuts out the middleman and i think that's nifty
also, the way infinitives work is fascinating to me
how do they work ?
"Ze" ?
"ze" is "this", no? /bad memory
also, infinitives! essentially, each verb has 3 core letters, called the shoresh or root. the various conjugations are delineated by vowel placement, prefixes, and suffixes
Ah right I think it is
oh yes arabic has that too ! i found out about that while reading about semitic vowels
that's so coooooool, i love words
apparently in old semetic languages that wasnt that case, but due to some funky evolution of words, that became the case for most semitic languages...i found a video on it i think, lemme grab it rq
i think i remember it making verbs and conjugations a lot easier to learn and identify
if it has these 3 letters, it's this verb, every time
yeah that sounds so efficient. im planning to make it part of the conlang im making
ok turns out i hallucinated the existence of a video and i just read a wikipedia article about it
Aren’t all languages conlangs?
love that lmao
a conlang is a language that, generally speaking, is purposefully created. the current theory of ancient language is that it came to existence basically by accident. some bloke pointed at a big wood thing with leaves, called it a tree, and now we have subjunctive pluperfect conditional mood
modern day animals also have methods of communicating that could be called language. iirc prairie dogs (although it might be some other burrowing mammal i forget the name of) have basically an adjective/verb system through which they can identify threats. the sound for a human in a blue coat is different than one for a human in a red coat, or a big adult wolf vs a small baby wolf. crows have been known to use both human and crow specific speech to communicate with each other and us. not to mention our closest relatives, the great apes, have vocalizations that could be considered communicative and semi-linguistic. what likely happened was, with the development of more delicate and detailed windpipes, humans became capable of making more complex sounds. our grunts and growls turned into words due to the nature of our articulation capabilities. so no, not all languages are engineered, but many languages have engineered aspects. a well known one is hangul for korean, a writing system basically made in the course of a couple months to replace the chinese script that didnt work for korean and had been only used due to proximity
i believe the biggest separator from animal communication to what we consider fully formed language is the ability to lie
have u met a cat tho /lh
iirc from my linguistic anthropology class, there are a bunch of qualifications and a mode of communication needs to meet all of them to be considered a language. so if animal A can lie but not refer to the past, it still doesn't count
a big one is also that language needs to be able to talk about itself
yea, but my point still stands that communication is found throughout the animal kingdom and that early form of language is likely where words and true language came from for us
oh 100%! communication exists in many many forms besides what we consider language
also before anyone brings it up: no, koko couldnt communicate in sign language. chimps, gorillas, and other great apes have proven unable to do more than ask for food or attention using human sign language.
@snow cosmos I DIDNT HALLUCINATE I FOUND IT
https://youtu.be/EPByou0EIb4
Also for the development of words, gossip! Since you can easily point somewhere and say "Red berry not eat" and you'd get it, however you need more words to articulate "Did you hear that Sally had lied about a crocodile being in the river? She was actually doing it to get back at John, who collects water from there every day"
oh yeah ! theres actually languages that have markers specifically for gossip or unreliable information which i think is absolutely amazing
Did a message get bonked?
Oof
i think one of them is navajo, the language well known to have All The Traits. i watched a video about navajo conjugation and its horrible /positive
i used a tone marker that has another meaning as an offensive term so i was bonked. all good now tho ^^
Be careful
hey @snow cosmos do you wanna dm to nerd out more about semitic languages ?
Headcanon that skykids communicate like ravens where, they have a system of sounds that each mean basic words to them like “Hi!” Or “I need help”! But nothing complex without the use of telepathy. They can also mimic the words of spirits ALSO like ravens and use this to communicate with them
the mental image of skykids running around and cawing is pleasing to me
raven honk when
We have birds in sky but what would a raven look like
Do sky kids have mouths to actually shout with?
I know that in early abyss concepts there was a raven mask, although it and the personality of the spirit it was meant to belong to sadly got scrapped and replaced with angler. Which. If you are cool and believe in the whole “animals in masks existed at one point but are now extinct” theory like me then it implies the same things true for ravens
They kinda already do that lmao
Animals in masks, like the whale in the forest?
No like… the antelope in the gratitude ult mask
Masks that are made in the image of animals. Like Dusk Elder’s mask is thought to emulate a whale face.
Using emulators is against the Sky TOS, @frigid tinsel. Please don’t use or discuss emulators here.
Sorry for struggling with phrasing I’m completely wiped
Skybot I will break your servers and throw your motherboard in a lake
Kind of weird that spirits would emulate animals that don’t exist in the world using masks
Using emulators is against the Sky TOS, @gleaming fog. Please don’t use or discuss emulators here.
Prophecy is also a good example of masks made in the image of animals. We got a sea turtle(?), spider, bat, tiger/lion, and a jackal
It’s thought those animals existed when ancestors were around but gone extinct by the time skykids arrived
EXACTLY which is why I believe this animals existed at some point but. Due to the giant murder explosion it’s super reasonable to assume they went extinct
Could also be an environmental thing, the wasteland looks like it was a forest at some point, maybe they drove the animals out before the big boom
YESSSSS I would be so mad if the last two animals specifically have never existed.
there was a handful of people (idk how much of them are still active or even who they were as it’s just something I vaguely remember) that would be like Oh, the spirits just made up those animals for the masks or they’re not actually canon, don’t worry about it, and that reasoning has confused/annoyed me more than it should have
i like to think that those animals didnt survive the storm because they werent strongly dark or light, making them vulnerable to the surging energies and killing them off. imagine an archeology season where we dig up the bones of extinct animals to piece together sky's ecology pre-eruption
i remember a bit ago i made a little ficlet in the perspective of a research journal where lamed
was trying to understand how skykids communicate. lemme see if i can find it
lorechat seems sneepy, may i dump some lore abt one of my ocs?
I've heard a story about some Sky kids falling asleep in Golden Wasteland, rumour has it no one has seen them anymore...
even worse this time! over the limit by 1800 characters
also, i havent finished writing yet (yes, its even longer)
(PART 1)
Kita is grandma’s apprentice—earnest, caring, adventurous, and carefree. But don’t mistake it for naivety—she has learned a lot to get this far.
Kita had been warned of the dangers of Hidden Forest. She had heard of the “rain” and “dark water” and “trapped mantas.” As a result, she had never ventured beyond the temple of Daylight Prairie. Why would she? She was perfectly content with what she already had. She loved the way the giant mantas scooped her up and threw her into the air, the way the butterflies tickled her and made her feel alive, the way everything was illuminated, with no secrets to hide.
And then she met Elliott. Elliott was the embodiment of a helpful friend. Yet he did not understand why Kita wouldn’t venture beyond.
“There’s so much more waiting for you, Kita,” he said to her one day as they basked in the Butterfly Fields, “if only you cared to look.”
“Why would I?” Kita inquired. “I have everything I need here.”
He promised Kita the time of her life if she went beyond the Elder’s Temple. Kita didn’t know any better. Elliott was so kind, so caring. He wasn’t afraid. And while Kita thought the scars on his arms and legs and chin were odd, she didn’t really see anything wrong with him. And so she went beyond.
(PART 2)
A deep call sent Kita and Elliott fluttering upwards. What Kita saw next was unlike anything she had seen before. Tall, cylindrical shapes—Elliott called them “trees”—towered above the both of them. A friendly campfire was at the center of the area. Beyond there were clouds and the thundering storm at the top of the sky.
“Come, let’s take a leap!” Elliott gestured. He took Kita’s hand and together they jumped into the clouds below. The feeling was familiar to Kita. She had done the same thing when the prairie was her home.
Kita doesn’t remember what happened next. All she remembers is a draining feeling. Rain. She remembers her cape disappearing before her very eyes. She remembers Elliott turning his back on her to leave her to die. A brutal sentence, betrayal. There was no remorse in his eyes.
Kita felt herself losing her light. She didn’t want to die. Not now. Not like this. Not alone, in the rain, with a voice too quiet and too exhausted to scream. Her eyelids were becoming heavy. She couldn’t keep them open any longer…
Kita woke up in a dark room. She looked around but saw nothing except black, devoid of form. And herself…nothing was the same. Everything was gone, replaced with a standard tunic. Her chest was no longer pulsing with light. It was dark. Dormant. Destroyed.
That was what Kita felt. Dark. Dormant. Destroyed.
She looked around once more. …There! A glowing entity was a short distance away. She ran as fast as her little exhausted legs could carry her until she reached it.
It was glowing with a fierce but familiar light. The light of a winged light, to be exact. A rush of exhilaration passed through her. Kita placed her hands into its hands. The light flowed into her once more…
(PART 3)
Hello? Anybody in there?”
Kita snapped awake. There were two faces staring down at her. At the sight of Kita conscious, the left one clapped happily and walked away. The one on the right offered Kita a hand and helped her up.
“You’ve been out for a while. You’re lucky I even found you…Kita.”
Kita looked up with a start. She saw the same cape, the same hat, the same exact scars.
Elliott.
Elliott gave her a sly smile. “Now now, Kita. It is not the time for past differences. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t be here right now.”
Kita grumbled. But Elliott was right. She could only imagine where she would be if Elliott decided to leave her for good.
She looked away. Kita’s eyes landed on a ghostly figure. The one who clapped when she had woken up.
heheh, thats all i have for now
Grim: steals Kita
Elliott out here gaslighting and manipulating and Grim just wants to protecc
a Filthy Rat Man
(i don't remember if i specified but Grim is my krill kid healer and would absolutely be Kita's guardian if she ever made it to the Wasteland)
lets seee….
-he screws over his own brother
-he screws over kita
-he doesnt appear to screw over vyn, but…you never know. vyn’s sus of him anyway
squints at him
he’s just a little honk for no reason. i still havent written that part
snort
Though for some reason I also had the idea of krillkids being guardians/guides in the wasteland
i feel like it's because their krill-ness lets them withstand a lot of the dangers of wasteland, but their kid-ness still gives them that urge to help others
for Grim it's a mutually beneficial thing, where they absorb corruption off others and it fuels them
I Adore skykids that are literally just creatures, shattering brought an influx of them in my friends ocs and they’re always so good
jellies and mantas and krillkids, oh my!
If a skykid is creature it automatically gives them a boost in my opinion
ive had a few __kids in the making (ishiko was actually a jelly kid in the making but it got scrapped) but none have stuck. maybe its cause i have a hard time drawing them
I have a krill kid oc. His name is Aoliea, he’s a golden retriever type character. Although he has some rough patches when the krill brain starts to go brrr
i have a pre-calamity (i think?) skid i'm working on, i'm referring to them as a Manta Royal Guard
I made my skysona bluebird basically a cat but I think that’s because I’m the same way so I’m not sure if they count
I have 9'2" tall deer Skykid, also in Wasteland. All my kids in Wasteland
all my kids are in forest or on a plane of existence
Presenting our kids like cats
i want to end up with at least one skid per realm- so far i've got Vault (Lumi and Wisp), Valley (Harken), Wasteland (Grim), and then Kestrel's in the Wind Paths so idk where that counts
Wind Paths leans onto Prairie territory
you'd think, but you access them from the Forest, and they're sort of between all the realms in my mind
quinn, ishiko, kita, and rio are in forest, raza and briar in wasteland, and amethyst, luca, and vyn are wherever
Yes, but I personally think it's above Prairie territory, obscured in cloud
fair!
"This is Munchies and they will bite"
Then
"This is Farris & they have not felt the warm embrace of their friends in years as they have all passed away and the
OWRUWODIWOAOKDJF CRYING
a significant portion of my skykids have been diagnosed with cat
I’m behind about 95% of it ^
also im pretty sure my sona would reside in isle
then again theyre a messenger boy so
i need to make a proper sona- which circles back to i need a raven mask pls
my skysona turned into two separate characters and that's the second time that's happened
I WANT A RAVEN MASK SO BADLY
i dont have a skysona because im evil
quinn was my old skysona but he sorta evolved into his own character more and more not like me
i dont have a skysona because a
my manta guard character has one of the bird masks but they're just not the saaaame
Indigo is right there?
they had Pepo but Pepo split into four psuedo-characters
This combined with wao&iat being your first skyfic gives me some questions about t you as w ehoel
there's a reason I fixated on Sunset and idk what that is
multiplicity vibes /positive
hello lorechat whats the topic for today
am I plural
our skykid ocs
i think
Each time you resurrect, are you truly the same person?
A lot of my first ocs start as a weird sona/oc mix, like for a while ilosu was a vague skysona before breaking off to become their own oc with a bonkers backstory LOL
if we're talking abt ocs
can i send smthn in
What is ocs?
stands for original character
also..im making an animatic rn that encompasses a lot of my ocs’ lore. hopefully ill finish
I don’t get it, like writing a book Kind of thing?
good luck!
a lot of us like to create our own characters that exist within the world of Sky, whether that's for a fanfic or art or just to imagine is up to the creator
not me making up whole worlds that are so specific
yea basically what book Salem said. just characters in our heads for fun or for writing fics
Gotcha, fanfic stuff,
Also, I love the steampunk aesthetic
brainrot ?
I love how this image is refusing to load for me
Skykids with top hat when
i've decided that my skysona would have a raven mask and one of the black capes, and would just fly up to whatever the highest point they can reach is and just zone out there bc that's what i do when i'm not actively doing something else
I also do this
we are one
you share everything, from name to sona
🤝
we are Samekh
of course when Sunset discovered Discord they made two accounts
update, i have picrewed myself a skysona
gib
I think so.
Hey Lorechat! Abt a random theory I made, I noticed that maybe, the Light and Dark exist as two balanced forces. The light is Orbit and beyond and Darkness is in the depths, seeing as Momma Krill is seen in the deep blue sea. So basically the Kingdom is between these two forces. Which is why Crystal Crabs dig down after the Ascended shard is defeated
Yeah, that’s a pretty common concept I see here! I’m still debating how I think both forces work personally
Well the thing is abt this theory, why are there Krill around? Wht abt flying shards, darkness in this logic should not fly
Why does darkness fly?
Krill are corrupted light creatures. Flying may be something they maintained from when they were beings of light
Keep in mind that almost all the darkness creatures we see are corrupted! [Krill confirmed, crabs aren’t strictly but considering they are also covered in darkness flakes it’s pretty obvious] so the flight may not be a thing dark beings have naturally but is just a holdover from their previous state.
The only exception to this is the leviathan which does seem strictly water based and does not have the darkness flakes; it’s the most likely to be a naturally dark creature
So basically hell is beneath the abyss
Confused, Why does there have to be a hell here?
i thought the abyss murals made it clear it's a genetically modified manta...
Not really! The process shown in that mural is darkstone being extracted from the mantas, what happens to them after is unknown. They could have disappeared like the manta who got krilled for all we know.
However, there is an eel like creature beneath the structure in that mural, which… I mean, pretty obvious that’s the leviathan — although whether it was originally an uncorrupted light creature or not is kinda up in the air
Treasure Reef facility just has strong “science experiment gone wrong” vibes. From one of the murals, it looks like the ancestors were testing how to make diamonds from mantas. Presumably something went wrong™️ and now there are krill down there
not the best screenshot but it does the trick
Personally I doubt the ancestors would deliberately corrupt light creatures. The power diamond manufacturing process produces darkness, so perhaps the light creatures used had a chance of corrupting unintentionally
what if they were unaware of the risk involved of depleting creatures of their light? the whole abyss area looks like an abandoned lab
i gave my mini-thesis on industry and intentional malevolence the other day but tl;dr yes! corruption as an unintended byproduct of industrialization
YEAH it’s definitely a very high risk for no real reward deal for purposefully corrupting light creatures.
The ONLY justification I can see for it is like, corruption also being a thing for ancestors, so they had to corrupt light creatures to essentially use them like we use lab rats to figure out how to treat it. Hence why you see ppl with scholar headdresses there. but since It’s a kinda out there reason and we have no evidence to believe that ancestors getting corrupted is a thing that can happen it’s definitely the less likely option
Or maybe a “purposeful corruption so we can figure out how to reverse whatever krill have going on” type deal, I could definitely see that as well
how often do we see krill depicted in murals? i can't remember any off the top of my head really other than the possible ones in reef
(my thought process here is that there are all sorts of murals of mantas and jellies and butterflies and birds, but if there aren't many krill murals, they could have been significantly less prevalent in the ancestors' time; i'm wondering whether they existed before the corruption brought by the attempts at using light for power or if they could be strictly a result of it)
Cave of Prophecy and Forgotten Ark
Dont forget Abyss!
My best guess is after! Enchantment seems pretty late in the timeline and The krill seems like part of the prophecy, so your guess is probably correct. As well as the krill designs not being simplified at all unlike mantas and birds which were much more common, implying it was a “what is this strange beast how do I draw it” situation
now i'm really vibing with the combined idea of "oh no we've accidentally created this strange beast how do we uncreate it"
okay wait now i'm wondering; if krills were accidentally created by the corruption etc, how do krillkids happen? obviously they're more fanon, but like... how does a krillkid Become?
@white junco has an krill kid oc named Acheron, basically they got sharded with krill memories (like in the most recent quest) and it kinda went from there! They’re one of my favorite ocs, I love their creature ness
Speaking abt krill. How does tlp goes to eden and doesnt get krillled.
Was he that, skillfull or just pure chaotic-idiotic or was it ✨magic✨
Well uh. He did die I feel like that’s worth mentioning.
he had recharge pots /j
SALEM
I LOVE ACHERON SM HOW COULD I NOT MENTION THEM
i should make an oc that is a Creature
ACHERON THE BELOVED I LOVE THE SHORT KING
picrew my one true friend i have need of your services
like, for my krid Grim, i feel like they were... born krill? assigned krill at birth? i just don't know how that actually... happens
Assigned emo at birth
in my fantasy au they're a wraith who (dark) ||died in childbirth and was necromantically bound back into their body|| but i'm not sure how to translate that back into sky
Star landed in a dark place (maybe dark water? The ocean?) and almost killed them maybe, and then do similar things from there
[insert gif of gru from despicable me going 'lightbulb']
maybe they landed on a shard and their shell was pierced through by one of the spikes and corrupted from there- if that's not stepping on Spade's toes by being too close to Acheron?
There actually are no krill depicted in any of the Abyss murals
i dont know what happened with this but presenting: them?
Aww cute
LP had no light so the krill were uninterested in him
i have absolutely 0 ideas for how they are as a character but they exist now
they look head empty and i love it
yeah my only idea for them is that theyre constantly in just a complete haze no idea what theyre doing or anything
god me too
it really be like that sometimes
the brain frog strikes again
BRAIN FROG MY HATED, relatable
Wait
I want to give them cookies and watch them try to figure out how to eat it because feral Krid do not know how to food other than attacking Light Creatures and Skids like Krills do.
They accidentally wander through the Wind Tunnel and into Granny’s tree during mealtime and subsequently get the doting Grandmother treatment.
I’m just gonna drop this
its like. they would be violent if they had any presence of mind whatsoever but theyre docile now
yells i did this
Giving Acheron firework staff and pet beIrd they are so close
i like this image of acheron they look very silly
none of my ocs get bingo individually
So close to bingo
They look like someone’s holding them up by the scruff of their neck i love it
unfortunately none of my skids have bingo 😔
saw an opportunity to post skykid and took it
thank you
to be honest, i havent developed his lore too much, but whatever
Amethyst needs to try walking on all fours and befriend a spirit
we’ll see
i think he thinks he’s too sophisticated for walking on all fours lmao
The little prince actually Naruto ran through Area 51 to save and free the krill and after doing so they all praise him a father they never had
hey I’m finally seeing why sky bot tells lorechat to go to bed-
What do you think sky bingo is like?
I think it’s like all the symbols that are probably words
All the things lorechat are trying to decode
I think cannoneer would play bingo just because they want to beat grandma
Dark dragons would play bingo
Not here for a lore question, but I am interested in Lore Chat's Skysona and their headcanons
(also no, I do not own umbrella, yet)

||NO WAIT THEY ACTUALLY HAVE NO NAME YET HSHSHS||
im afraid i dont have a sona
Understandable, took a while for me to make my own without changing outfits every single day
now they just need to either a) become the king or b) befriend an elder
Their adoptive mother is literally an elder bird
so i suppose
bingo?
Idk, sure
THE EDEN TRUAMA PART BEING DOUBLE CIRCLED KILLED ME I mean, I can’t argue with that
they have eden trauma from before eden exploded too <3 being given that much responsibility at such a young age took a toll on them
The entire box should be filled in at this rate
OH MY GOD i forgot so many points on this one actually
What does the lore chat think about the Eden mural at the beginning of lvl 2?
Are the stars radiating out? Being pulled in?
wait what eden mural i havent ran since shattering started
This one
Yup
My interpretation of this is that this is the rise of the king, they had invented diamonds and the start of the golden age (if that is what they call it)
The animation starts at the crystal, shows the king, and reveals itself radially outwards, but all of the stars appear to be moving right. Was the crystal a siphon? was it one stop of many for the travelling stars?
to me, it looks like Chosen One using the Eden diamond in some way that the ancestors revered. the wavy lines are reminiscent of how Megabird is portrayed in the Forgotten Ark mural, so the diamond is producing light the ancestors consider godly
Oh, that's funky. I always assumed the eden diamond was created by the explosion...
Switch trailer shows the Eden light before it blew up :3
sorta. there's no Eden diamond, but there is the Eden mountain with the light beam
So kind of like queen Marika in Elden ring, the king is a consort for the sky bird that controls life and death, but later betrays it?
I used to think that the Eden Diamond was a canon to shoot light creatures to ascend faster
I agree with that theory, that the crystal was once blue and sent creatures up to the bird
QUICK QUESTION whats the common fandom name for the forest elder? it was teth right
granted, we don't have much of a clue what the Eden diamond's original purpose was. though this mural tells me that the Eden diamond was wanted and the ancestors revered it. so something went wrong
||Beta leaking has never been this tempting||
I heard there’s actual lore later on in this season at the very end. No spoilers but I’m super excited about it
Edit: DONT DO IT 😆
The Elders (plus the king & prince) have names based off Hebrew letters from concept development that are no longer canon, though the fandom sometimes refers to them as such:
Isle – Daleth (ד)
Prairie – Ayin (ע)
Forest – Teth (ט)
Valley – Samekh (ס) (they share a name, though the fandom refers to
as Sah and
as Mekh)
Wasteland – Tsadi (צ)
Vault – Lamed (ל)
Prince – Alef (א)
King – Resh (ר)
Though it seems the devs refer to the Elders by the times of day their realms represent:
Isle – Dawn
Prairie – Day
Forest – Rain
Valley – Sunset
Wasteland – Dusk
Vault – Night
actual lore
as if there hasn't been lore throughout this entire season?
BROTHER DUSK! THOU SHALT PROTECT THE NIGHT FROM THE INVADERS OF SUNSET! IN THE NAME OF THY KING!
Love the time based names
I think using the times of their days is easier since my brain refuses to memorize those names
We did kind of see that krill were much larger than they are now, supporting the idea that they have limited energy that’s slowly being consumed, we also kind of confirmed the migration theory with herds of manta/jellyfish migrating upwards in the first two memories
i was asking because:
(they do not like teth. teth is Mean To They [scolded them for not being a Very Responsible Person 24/7])
was thinking you were one of those blokes who were whining that Shattering "has no lore" cos the frozen memories don't involve the Elders or god forbid the king, glad it's not that.
not everything about Sky lore is about the king
I mean, we talk about Sun lore for god's sake
I love lore, almost more than the game haha,
I WILL FIND IT EVERYWHERE!
The big one for me is knowing that we don’t actually fly with capes, but with blue crystals embedded within.
The abyss season was weird since the kids had to breathe but somehow lost their flame without dying. This season (through the crawling mechanic) explains that our flap “energy” is actually just how much energy is left in our crystal
...skykids do use their capes and winged light to fly, not crystals
Speaking of blue crystals, why do you guys think blue crystals grow out of us?
Myst back again with the lore questions
do we?
i'm late to the bingo party but here's mine (feat Harken, Kestrel, Lumi, Wisp, and Grim)
it's some reaction to darkness absorbing skykids' light, though I'm not sure why. some think the crystals are darkstone, which makes the knowledge that light creatures were used to manufacture power diamonds
(SNURFLES AT THAT QUESTION LIKENA TRUFFLE HOG) personally i think the crystals (and turning to stone in eden in general) are basically a skykids """immune system""" against darkness corruption just. backfiring horribly
Ok, so I gathered my braincells for a bit, then I remembered the body of a Skykid is either made out of darkness (from the Devs abt Light Awaits), or clay (from Lorechat), my point is that maybe the darkness is taking over while the light is out for a while, maybe even taking it away
Hear me out, capes are like batteries (and maybe rudders for flight)
The meditation emote, telekinesis emotes, as well as various follow animations don’t use a cape, and yet we can still fly.
Skykids also have limited energy and need to recharge, exactly like crystals.
Winged light might be the crystal fragments that we see pop out whenever we become too “unstable and weak” to properly hold the WL
to clarify: i think the crystals and stone r sorta like... temporary scarring? its their bodies way of sealing in light should they get injured or if their light is being drained to a dangerous degree- however it goes horribly wrong sometimes in areas with heavy ambient darkness, and HORRIBLY TERRIBLY wrong in eden
Normally the stone would just break away once they're not in any danger but. Eden. Yknow.
maybe the darkness is taking over while the light is out for a while, maybe even taking it away
i like how this vibes with my headcanon about parasitic darkness plants (the spores land on you but can only take root when you're completely out of light and then sap some of your light as it refills)
What if we’re made of wax, and dark plants ARE the wax when it runs out of energy?
I think you'll find the factoid that winged light was once called "stars" and power diamonds once called "artificial stars" interesting.
perhapps it is not the skykids's flight imitating crystals, it could the crystals imitating star power
What if the king we see at the end of the game is the only real sky kid? Maybe all of the others are just mechanical constructs that emulate the real thing?
Using emulators is against the Sky TOS, @gleaming fog. Please don’t use or discuss emulators here.
and on that note, it is Past My Bedtime (almost 12:30) and my brain is fuzzy, so imma call it a night. have fun, lorechat! <3
Have a good sneep snorp!
okay okay okay this is gonna be a serious hot take I think but i, personally, do not consider winged light to be canon. in my eyes it is a game mechanic and can easily be explained better with "skykids can store more and more light as they get older"
granted we don't know who that white kid in limbo is. some do think it is the king or whatever is left of them. there is also the theory that the king/prince/Chosen One was the first skykid. I don't see how contemporary skykids could be artificial cos they too are fallen stars and not borne of the earth and I have to stop typing cos my bunny wants headpets
The lore from this perspective is quite interesting ngl, but why do some wl have poses? (I am talking about the ones in Eden, before pnr)
Haha PAT DE BUNNY!
Seriously though, megabird might be a construct as well, what if the first sky kid is uniqe and the megabird is like a giant factory?
What if the mural in eden isn’t the crystal, but the megabird instead?
except we do know how Megabird is depicted in murals as per the Forgotten Ark.
one could argue that the Eden mural depicts the Eden diamond making an artificial god since they use the same starry paintstrokes
bc it is fun and makes the eden tunnel more interesting <3
idk i just. winged light has never fit nicely into my view of the lore- ive always felt that it was more natural to say that a skykids light storing ability tends to grow as time goes on, but gets worse if they're exposed to too much darkness for long periods of time
(quite a cute lil detail that the ancestors have an umbrella or a hat to cover themselves from light, probably assuming that Megabird is probably as bright as the Sun)
or those are lightseekers, collecting light. lightseekers have umbrellas
Building tension, I see
Didn’t think of that, big question is whether the starry paint strokes depict the megabird, or the energy that it/the stars provide
arguably, there could be no difference.
Why not both?, iirc, Megabird is a group of stars, seeing from the credits
The more the lore chat speaks, the more this feels like elden ring but you hug and energize the bosses instead of killing them
I think they depict megabird- however my opinions on megabird should be taken with a grain of salt because i am soooo full of Bird Headcanons <3 (its trauma) (i made megabird have trauma)
in my interpretation of Megabird, Megabird has all the trauma of traumatized beings of light within Them
Oh! So like a hive mind?
Megabird could be a space station, maybe the light it’s sending down represents care packages to help the elder.
Could also be a massive surveillance device that gets data via spirit memories.
Haven't played Elden Ring but like
Isn't the fire/flame always bad in most soulsbornes? That's how it is in the Dark Souls trilogy at least. The fire represents conformism towards a dysfunctional system and sacrificing to keep the old age alive
No idea what the flame is in Elden Ring tho
Which supports my theory that light birds are government CCTVs /j
yea but not in a conformist individuality-ceases-to-exist hivemind, but more that Megabird is the consciousness of the Light, the manifestation of all the collective beings of light within the Light.
the Light is the collection of all ascended beings of light, Megabird is the consciousness produced by the Light
My interpretation of megabird is that she has a connection to all light creatures, but is not actually composed of them- she's her own entity but she has an inherent connection to light creatures. she could probably read your mind and can definitely visit peoples dreams i think. but she's kinda left to piece together this information herself instead of just Immediately Seeing Everything From Everyones Perspectives
The Mega birb .... I like to call it Supercluster Mega-Birb
THAT ONE, THAT IS WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT
omg it's my image
They* :)
Oh O.O I got it on google
Ngl it looks like a phoenix
AH SORRY megabird fell victim to my habit of she/they/it-ing characters i like and i kinda forgot thats not canon
OMGGGGGGGGGGG ALASDAIR ITS YOUR IMAGE O.O
I FOUND ANOTHER MEGABIRD IMAGE (in entrance of office, found in google)
So this one is completely different from the souls games,
Basically there’s this rune called the elden ring that controls causality (death, strength, etc) you can rewrite the world with it. Before the game starts, this outer god (one of many gods in space) called the elden beast takes control of the world, creates a religion called the golden order, and turns death into a cycle of death and rebirth (your ashes are absorbed by the beast and then comeback to life).
The game starts when the queen betrays the outer god and shatters the elden ring. Like sky, you go to the gods major structure and fight the queen. Like sky, after you see the human leader, you meet the god they worked for
here's the mural that's projected over the water
INTERESTING!!!! THE FIGURE IN THE BOAT REMINDS ME OF THE PRINCE OR THE KING
I just saw it in a youtube video unsourced. that pic has over 500+ notes on tumblr, eventually it was gonna go beyond me
I wonder why his head looks like that? Maybe it’s a reference to the Eden crystal?
The reason why I call this Megabird, atleast its not a bundle of strings 💀 (unlike the concept art)
The magic of the internet
Idk why, but I see a symbolisim of a Phoenix with Megabird
it's reminiscent of the halo around Chosen One in both the Cave of Prophecy murals and the Eden mural.
granted this is concept art, so things could and have changed during development
That Eden mural you guys shared here, looks like those light/door at Orbit
I wish they made more concept art during development of each season and actually released it :/
megabird doodles from a while back bc i think they deserve to be an active parental figure in the lives of their many many skykid children (they can only rlly visit said children in dreams but they try their best)
mate, you have no bloody clue how much concept art there is. while TGC has released some seasonal concept art (and NetEase released more for Abyss: https://sky.163.com/news/official/20220413/26689_1012705.html), I think they're saving most of it for the artbook
Spoiler for Hollow Knight ||Basically Megabird to you is like the Pale King but didn't toss their children to the abyss, unless you count sending them down to the Sky kingdom is the equivalent of the abyss
||
I FORGOT TO REPLY 😭
Tbf that pic shows One guiding a cluster of light creatures while Shattering poems suggest that "fake" lights were used to lure creatures
Not only that, but the ancient memories show us a winged light riding mantas towards a direction different from the one we see most creatures going towards, and in the next memory we see that winged light under the Eden Diamond, surrounded by Krills
Coincidence? I THINK NOT
omhhhhhh looks awesome O.O
I have 600+ images of Sky concept art, compilations, and reference pictures of in-game content. my iCloud storage is mad at me
the raven mask >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Shattering poems? W H E R E :3
one of them is in #news
Only the latest one about the krill, and that one isn't really important since it doesn't say anything we didn't know already (except those first two verses about ascending towards darkness and a distorted reflection)
TGC has been releasing short poems on social media alongside new quests being released. Slink has compiled them in a single message here: #lore-discussion-spoilers message
TIL sky actually does social things,
For the krill memory, they say insatiable hunger, but is that referring to the krill or the sky kid?
The krill itself
What if we have to combine all the poems?
I don't think so. each poem refers to a single memory. while together they piece together an image of what happened around the Eden calamity, they do not read to me like a long poem
There is any google doc with concept arts links ?
(legally released by TGC/NetSomething)
Are you sure? Because our skykids are super absorbent towards energy, to the point where the winged light kids who absorb energy particles from the air have that disrupted when we come near, maybe that was the first skykid like the player?
Not trying to say you’re wrong, just saying it could be both :3
krill are said to "hunger" for light as per the main menu tip
Hi, sorry to bother you guys, I know absolutely nothing about the lore in sky but I want to learn more about it and today I heard something about a prince and a king and I've been trying to figure out what that's about, someone told me to look here but after reading a bit I'm just even more confused and I was just wondering if someone could tell me a bit about the Prince and King? Or where can I read about it?
This
You’ll find those useful, it’s my rundown of the prince/king: #lore-discussion-spoilers message
No but like they do kinda work as a single piece if you put them together, it kinda works as a poem about mantas being lured into a fake light, where they're betrayed and become corrupted
I think they added that line to a krill memory for a reason
Yes, while it could be both (that would mean that we are no better than dark creatures), it seems that it is specifically directed to krills, for now
(just a lil thought)
TL;DR:
There was a city of ancestors, they had a king, created crystals (that used light and dark stone, but also created polluted water), used this stuff everywhere, had a spot at Eden where a chungo crystal was, prince/king messed around and found out, there is no longer a prince/king.
Everyone he loves is gone.
Thank you so much!
It could be that light and dark creatures are the same, but one doesn’t have the ability to replenish its stores of light
Ooooooh, alright, thank you!
you'll notice that since the king is an enigmatic figure whose appearance in the Live game is questionable, there are a lot of different interpretations of them
oh the poems do work really well together
Or, or! They can replenish their darkness if they lost any, seeing that we don't have a cure for the corruption of dark creatures as of now
Oh and! The Devs says that they play a big role ingame, but we don't exactly know what that role is
didn’t really say big role, more just that there’s some role, but they’re not in a place you’d think they’d be
So like two sides to the same thing, but dark creatures are constantly trying to get rid of light instead of be filled with light, I like it, also explains why krill don’t eat our winged light after they knock it out of us.
At the same time, does that make us sky kids dark creatures when we lose our flames
maybe the king is secretly a child gremlin that they put a crown on and just said here is the king, then sat him on a child feeding seat just to rule the kingdoms themselves and put in on a childs name- who knows

what if the krill are trying to be filled with light just like us, but because they’re corrupted, they can only hurt it?
Or they absorb so much energy that we run out instantly?
Just constantly starving and trying to become satiated.
Just occasionally killing a manta by accident- " Mother it was for the light "
Ok so basically:
There's multiple theories
Some say the king was the Eden Elder, who we see in the Eden constellation in the Vault cutscene
Some say skids are remnants of the king/prince, since the old friendship constellation was a crown, and the current constellation is the Eden Diamond
Others say the prince was the Chosen One in the murals of prophecy and that one new Eden mural
Some argue the prince is the white skid who's trapped inside the Eden Diamond who we hug in the cutscene
Many believe the remnants of the prince are the Winged Light we collect through the game
I personally believe it's all of the above at the same time, because as crazy as it's sounds, it is very plausible and all those theories work well together Actually
Were the prince and the king different people or are they the same person? Is anything of the above even true? It's all up to you
the krill just want hugs
deadly hug hugeth if you dare
I would say temporarily! When we grow dark crystals out of us, we don't get the motivation to rid the light (though, from previous theories, it could be the Megabird telling us to not do that)
What if the crystals are a defense mechanism specifically against that?
Like normal light creatures would die when their flame runs out but we have WL to keep us alive. Maybe skykids let winged light go and in exchange maintain the energy needed to not have our crystals go red and rampantly absorb what’s around us
I personally don't believe winged light are actually a part of the skid, I think we're simply carrying them around and they grant us power in return, but they don't belong to us
This made me think something: Do the crystals shrink when other Skykids retrieve our wl?
I dont see it as the Skykids sacrificing the wl, but the dark crystals forcefully taking them out in order to take over (for a bit)
||also sorry for double reply 😭||
Oh wow, I hadn't heard of most of this before, that's so interesting, thank you!
No worries on replies :3
I always assumed that we were like the apex predators of energy, nothing more absorbent than us with the WL kids coming in as a close second, so if we run out of energy, maybe the energy used to hold the winged light is redirected towards staying alive, causing us to lose it. When the WL disappears, that could just be a random WL kid re-absorbing its energy organ…thing.
Idk though, the krill with its red crystal on its head could also be forcing it out as well
THE MEGABIRD CONVO MADE ME WANNA DRAW MEGABIRD AND I THINK THE BIRD POSSESSED ME BC THIS IS LIKE. ONE OF THE BEST THINGS IVE DRAWN EVER
Omg Slink this is gorgeous
The colors, oh my they’re wonderful
I want to. print this and put it in a frame because it's beautiful
It really looks like a bird made of fire
MADE SOME ADJUSTMENTS and cropped slightly so it can be sent to non boosted servers but THANK U, i love bird, even tho megabird jjst shows up twice in the game megabird is such a good design aesthetic wise LOL
Oh wow that's beautiful
Thats what I noticed too. My reasoning behind it is that it would make sense for our infromation to be shattered in a way (if that amkes sense)
Oh my god this is so beautiful
I've been reading about what yall have been talking about (the whole megabird and king discussion) its all so interesting and I never even noticed that a king/prince have been depicted in the drawings of sky
I always assumed the king figure was supposed to be a reference to the vault elder as it has lil square around it which I saw as the seats for the other elders lol-
Anyone here remembers what the cutscenes are for the TLP spirit memories? 🤔
you can relive them whenever you want :V
Why do skids close their eyes when they take off their masks?
idk if its been done yet but I have gotten some really good closeup pics of the krill statues in both the spirit area and the krill memory. mainly the face.
Hey guys so I've been thinking about the ark and stuff and these paintings show how the spirits got those orbs of light but what are the orbs of light and what did they want to do with them?
We see what looks like stars fall from the sky and then they make those into the different orbs and each one does a different thing from the quests we do
So I was thinking what if the arc was set during the darkness and they wanted to use the power of the orbs to cleanse the land since each orb can do stuff like clean tainted water or grow grass but obviously the ship crashed and they got stranded so they never accomplished their mission, that's my thoughts anyway ^^
what do u guys think?
does anyone know what these marked symbols might be? any theories? or maybe it's just a mistake...
I remember there were discussions about that here
In my perspective and opinion, these murals show the origin of the lights and their story as a crew
In images 1 and 2 I kind of forgot the actual explanation to them in a discussion here but I believe it depicts how they get light for their arts, images 3 and 4 depict them creating spells (using them in image 4) and the enchantment lights
Image 5 depict them traveling towards an area bringing the enchantment lights, in my opinion theyre traveling towards eden (they ultimately crashed in wasteland which is at the base of the eden mountain)
6 and 7 depict their demise, crash landing either because of the storm or a krill or perhaps even both (supporting detail for image 5)
Note: There was a discussion here before that the ark may have come from Isle of Dawn because the tents found in the ark are the same as the ones found in the switch trailer which showed us Isle before becoming a desert
I think that, from Isle of Dawn, they brought their creations, the enchantment lights, to (as you said) use the power of the lights to cleanse/revitalize the area due to the corruption coming from eden
that's cursed thank you
Hot
they all follow the same format of TLP slandering them like he did in the book, with pretty much the same words
Balenciaga should take notes
Holy image
Bobbit ^^
Okay... I have to ask:
What do you think it's the meaning of krill memory?
Ahhh, im probably one of the only people who think that the krill like eating darkness ( in comparison to light ) so ill say that the krills are trying to attack and consume ( ? ) the power diamond that seems to be forming ( most likely the eye in the future )
Hmm
My personal take is that krills' are made out of red shards.
Also, krills are the most common, prevalent and effective "evil" we see. Even the battlefield in Wasteland is tied to them. I think that they are actually a result of the large Eden rhombus. A manifestation of evil, if you want. Yep, the diamond in Eden is the very same one we see in the memory.
Think about it... The shards and the krills suddenly stormed the Sky kingdom causing destruction. I think what we see in that memory is actually how the Sky kingdom looked during the infamous cataclysm which wiped out the spirits' civilization.
Now wait a second...
I just saw that the diamond has those huge thunder flashes that spread all over the memory.
Could it be some reference to the mega bird/the light/whatever its name is spreading their threads of light?
Were there two of them in the beginning and one turned into the Eden diamond while the other just stayed "good"?
It's obvious that this Eden rhombus thingy is some sort of "the root of all evil".
With all the pots butterflies go in do you think maybe they’re used like birdhouses?
Maybe butterflies prefer enclosed and dim spaces to live so pots are perfect for butterflies and people put them out to help
With the king/civil war theories, do you think the krill could be the result of that, like war machines?
I actually think that butterflies are made and not born
Theyre like.. the physical moving manofestation of light farmed from the old fashioned way (laughing lightcatchers memory)
I used to think so but I think with the krill memory coming to light its either a mix of warachine and corrupted creatures or purely corrupted creatures because of the storm
do elders have names other than "forest elder" or "valley elder 1"
i thought i saw something once about one of the valley elders being named daleth but idk could have been just someone's headcanon
I think krills are war machines born by the red diamond
Personally, I don't think they are corrupted light creatures. We have seen so many times that fact
Here, check this message: #lore-discussion-spoilers message
Tyty!
we have confirmation that they are corrupted creatures
Interesting, maybe they were some of those king mantas?
Although Ktjn has said that their official names are [Realm] Elder for a reason and that the time of day names are purely internal
on the “valley elder called daleth” thing, the hebrew names come from concept art, and somewhere along the line names were associated with the wrong elders. there’s actually a whole doc on the concept names https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qCXl82o4VoEmQDL2eBRlw7u7dRHEMMplplRaUvyGTWg/edit?usp=sharing
I thought I saw something about valley elders being Samnek, is that fanon?
Samekh was their name during concept development but that’s no longer canon. The fandom does still refer to them as such sometimes.
i can’t remember, does Samekh come from pre-twins concepts or was that name attached to the twins as well?
i did it again
It was attached to the twins in Yui’s concepts (though I can’t find the piece that has their name on it). Zhao’s concept refered to the goddess but did not name them.
need to name my Creature oc
Oh Zhao did have the twins but only referred to them as the Twins
Bingo template?
