It's hard to teach you without being with you, but while I don't play from memorization, I do have to memorize music for my choir class, and this is the same method:

Pick a song you like and either learn the notes by ear or, and this is recommended find the Sky sheet music file for it.

Play through and learn a small section first, and repeat that until you can comfortably play it without looking or needing to look, and then go forward to the next section and do the same. Eventually, you can string together longer segments together until you end up finishing the song.

• note that while bigger (more notes = more fingers) chords will sound "fuller", if you're still learning, you can usually get away with 3 notes and it will still sound ok, so you can practice with fewer fingers if that is easier for you.

Depends - it relies on the BGM of the area so for each "level", such as Butterfly Fields vs Sanctuary Islands, they'll each have their own background music. A thing you can do is let it play (unmuted in the slider audio menu) and mute the BGM when you reach a key you like, or force the key to change by playing a music sheet and waiting, and then tapping on the same sheet to stop it when you get to the key you want.

I'm having a really hard time figuring out how to control the key of the instruments. I'm going to the areas on the wiki that are specified as certain keys but sometimes they are different or going into those rooms isn't updating the key from the previous room. Making me confuzzled

For example, I've gone to both the forest's brook and the broken temple to find E flat major but I couldn't get my instrument to get out of F major

Then I went the portal to isle of dawn from home and it suddenly changed to E flat

Keys are dependent on the currently playing BGM of an area for the most part. I haven't confirmed/it's hard to remember off the top of my head but i believe each realm/area has its own default key (?) when the BGM is muted.

As for the second bit, sometimes it bugs out like that :(

Wish i could help further, but another method is to find an in-game music sheet that contains the key you want, playing it, and pausing it when it hits the right key. May take some trial and error

I think my main issue was that my game music being muted was keeping my instrument's key from updating. If I unmute then take a second to really soak in the game song it'll update eventually.

Not to my knowledge sadly. The best yoi can do is look for a piano tutorial with the note names (A3, G4, etc) displayed and use something like Sky Studio to turn it into a proper sheet, but even that takes forever

i’m pretty sure everyone will tell you this but practice practice practice!! it’s the only way to get better. but “practice” doesn’t have to mean organized practices or anything, just like, play music and ✨wow✨ you’re practicing!
learn songs that you like. it makes playing music like 1000x more fun. my first songs were from undertale (i had just recently played it for the first time) and the legend of zelda (which i’m a huge fan of) the sky community is pretty big so if you search for songs that you like on youtube you might be able to find a good cover of it. if said cover is too complicated, you can always take the melody of it and learn just that.
and don’t be afraid to perform in front of others the sky community is honestly just so wholesome and people love to listen to anything you play. they’ll likely show lots of love too it is such a great motivator when people support your playing. if sky wasn’t an online game and you always played music alone, i would definitely not be as invested in its music system as i am now.
suuuuper important one: don’t compare yourself to others. like pls don’t do that, it’s a huge demotivator D: everyone goes at their own pace and those people playing super complicated songs have probably played music on sky for several months. start out with simple songs, don’t try stuff you can’t do, but also challenge yourself!! try slowly learning songs with more pace and/or more complicated chords or techniques. you’ll see progress, i promise :D

In any realm, the key of the music changes with the bgm. Here is what you can do- 1. Wait for bgm to finish and then start playing or 2. Turn down the bgm by going to settings and then audio. Hope this helps. 😊

Unfortunately there's no way to increase the record time on switch ||I have tried to no avail myself||. There are three options for getting that longer recording though through other means.

To get a longer recording, you can record your screen with a camera (phone, webcam, etc). This of course will capture your hands if you play with the touchscreen, so might not be the best option (unless you play music with controller input).

Another option would be to hook up a capture card and record with a computer. This does require your switch to be docked, if it is dock compatible. Which will limit you to playing music via controller

Your third option is if you have a friend on mobile (iOS/android), you can also ask them to record you playing in game. Unfortunately this won't show your note presses, but you should be able to get more than 30 second recordings, free of hand interference.

The only advice I can give you is to practice where you tap the keyboard. Unless you play on switch, then I have no clue 😅

Even with switch, practice is key (be it controller or touchscreen). A good starting point I find is playing the music sheets that you can buy in game, and/or simple songs (twinkle twinkle Little star, ode to Joy, etc). Get comfortable, and move at your own pace, as you would with any instrument in real life. If you try to rush too fast, it's easy to become overwhelmed and discouraged

Ummm I have a question 👉 👈 When I play music in sky I usually look at a visual music sheet, but it can get a little difficult for longer songs as I need to scroll all the time for new notes. So I wanted to ask the wonderful musicians of sky if you actually learn songs by heart completely or still peek into music sheet while playing? And what is the best strategy to learn a long song?

For me, it’s practice. Initially I learnt easy songs such as happy birthday etc used to practice in the sky music app, then practice in live.
Even now, any song I learn is all practice and practice. It comes to a point where you have memorised the notes. And then you can play perfectly that song.

something that helps me learn is to remember a specific formation of notes that sticks out to me, and then figure out the notes between what i remember
example in case that doesnt make any sense: i tend to remember this shape a lot fsr? so if this shows up twice, i can remember that, and then it's easier learning the notes in between the start and end points. i hope that makes any sense at all lol

I admit, the in-game much sheets frustrated me at first (looking at you, music sheet 3). But after unlocking a few slower paced sheets, it got to be a bit like watching a conductor directing the pace of the music. I focused less on where I needed to tap, and more on getting the right timing in the beginning. When the timing became comfortable, that's when I tried actually matching those notes. ||Still have trouble with sheet 3 with piano/lyre||

As for frequency/amount of practice, I used two criteria to decide when to stop. If I was getting frustrated, and/or if my hands were acting up. The same criteria I use for learning any new instrument in real life actually. If you're not having fun with it, it's going to be more difficult to practice the next time

But anyways ^^;

i agree on you to practice slower music sheets like #4, #5, #20 and #21. Another method i like to use is note remembering. what i do is just writing the notes down on a piece of paper or book and use the ABC1-5 method!

and for music sheet 3..well, for me thats just practicing the tempo and the multiple notes in one area.. i dont know how i mastered it, but i can do the main melody easily . If you want to cover of a song i really recommend writing it down and using the ABC1-5 method.

It's kinda funny, but school band was where I learned to take that approach. I struggled a lot with music in the beginning, I almost gave up. It was my music teacher who basically told me to focus on the timing instead of technique. I'm thankful for that, because by my senior year I was actually one of the soloists

I've never been the most skilled, but I had found a comfortable place with music. Which I think has helped me with learning new instruments in real life as well as learning new songs in sky.
