I suggest that you find the nearest natural key (eg. F or G) and find a chord to make it fit with the melody

drums can't play a proper musical scale, so you'll have to make do with rhythms for now. while you save up for another instrument, I suggest you experiment with beats for songs you like, or practice music sheets with a friend!! the drum makes for a great accompaniment

hi @frank atlas!! I’m currently looking over the songs you’ve requested and wow, those sound awesome I can certainly whip up a sheet for Faerie’s opening melody!

though, I won’t be able to do much more than that. songs like this are extremely hard to translate into sheets because they use more organic samples, such as voice clips, electronic noises and percussion, which can’t be played on regular instruments hope you don’t mind!

like taliarasque said, you can really only make rhythms with drums. that said, just play them to the beat of whatever song you wish you can also make your own! i've written a couple of drum parts for some of the ensembles i've made, but they're not very playable

tap on the sheet from your song list > click "share" > send it to them through any platform. they will then need to download the sheet on mobile/laptop (laptop is easier), then transfer it to whatever platform they wish (except for sky scores - that app doesn't let you upload other songs)

Btw, you can really see the influence of the switch release on the popularity of sky, I've had +300 daily users in those days, coming from a 3 month streak of it being stuck at max 1300 users daily

something else you could add tho is letting us drag and drop sheets into the composer, so we don’t need to keep going back to the home screen, dragging and dropping, then going back to the composer

that’s not a bug, the piano is just switching to a different music key. a key is pretty much a set of notes that sounds good together, there are 12 major keys. if you’ve ever noticed the piano sounding different when you enter a new area, that’s because instruments sync to the key of the background music. in the case of music sheets, that sheet just happens to be in a different key than the one you were in before

if you want to change back to the “default” key on sky, just start another music sheet

most of them are in that “default” (c major)

Well, I have one song I’d like to share. It’s kinda dark, but it has such a nice melody (and it reminds me of the mysterious King character a bit...if we interpret him as evil.)

Okay so

I finished watching Netflix’s Centaurworld the other day

I have to say, it’s animation is great, it’s music is pretty catchy, and it got a few laughs out of me (though, some of the zaniness and potty humor got on my nerves a little)

But like Over the Garden Wall, it has a great dark atmosphere hidden among the whimsy

This song is one of those deliciously dark things, and I can’t help by think, if we interpret the King as evil, this would be a fantastic theme song for him

What you need to do is often making a sheet and often to listen music too and then you will know the bpm scaling because you already get used to it 🙏

Yes I play on Switch! as Uma said, touchscreen is the way to go 😂 maybe it’s possible to play the in-game sheets with buttons but if you like to learn other songs, it’s very difficult or sometimes impossible with buttons.

i think there might be a misunderstanding - Sky Studio, Sky Music, Sky Music Nightly, Sky Scores, etc. are all 3rd party apps, and it’s not possible to “link” or “connect” them to the actual Sky game (doing so would be against ToS)

people use these fan-made apps to practice on keypads that look very similar to the in-game one, then they just bring that muscle memory to the real game

these outside apps are also very helpful for composing and other functions, but since we’re just talking abt practicing i’ll leave it at that

Hey! So i know this is inconvenient and not the greatest alternative but I tried this with a friend yesterday - when playing music sheets, youre able to see each others notes. So when I want to show my friend what I’m playing, i start a music sheet, they join, and I play whatever song. Its hella inconvenient with the music sheet playing over the top, but in a way, can still show friends what you’re playing somewhat.

I read the music how-to doc, but it made it sound like I needed real life sheet music for a song in order to transcribe it into Sky music notation

I have a song that doesn’t have official sheet music for it yet—I might’ve found a fan made music sheet, but I’m still trying to figure out how to get ahold of it

Long story short...is there some way to send in a song for somebody to give it proper notation?

If not, it’s fine! I hate feeling like I have to shove this “work” onto someone else 💦

Someone has made a MIDI for it, but involves joining their patreon to get the file. I don’t mind doing that—it’s cheap!—but as I am unfamiliar with MIDI, I don’t know if this means I can get ahold of sheet music or if it’s just a file

Though I think there IS a way to convert MIDI files into sheet music

So yeah I don’t mind doing all of that, but I was trying to see if there was an easier way, haha

sorry i can't say i've heard of it

midi doesn't mean you'll be able to get a music sheet - midi is a type of file, that basically holds all of the information for a song (like the key, bpm, the notes, etc). when you open up a midi file, it's like an audio file that plays the song

there is a built-in function in the web-app Sky Music that converts midi files into sky sheets, although i've never used this so i don't know how reliable it is

i'd definitely suggest looking at the notes and writing those down! it seems the video provides that for you

To play music is easier with touchscreen whether u play switch or iOS, but I find switch’s touch screen to be more responsive than mobile. For outright gameplay, switch is better all the way🥳 because of the buttons you aren’t mis-clicking every 10 seconds

skybot can, but it's not a magic button where you click "convert" and it does the job for you - the way skybot works is that you need to tell the bot which keys (specifically, in ABC1-5 format - see the pins for more details) to put; it doesn't convert real music sheet into the sky sheet format, you'd need to do that first (all skybot does is just return a page that's easier for you to read)

i dunno if you checked out my music guide, but what i wrote there in 12a is basically these steps -

1. figure out what key you're in (which is E, as per the sheet you wrote), and set the composer to that key (whichever app you're using)
2. determine what instruments you will use (i typically use two layers - one for the bass clef and one for the treble clef. sometimes i'll add a third, like a drum part or a winter piano)
3. begin to place notes - if you need help with this step, there's some info on that here: #sky-music message

Sky has an in-game recording function! It should be above the screenshot button, in the lower right of your screen (I don’t know how to find it on switch)

The ingame recorder is iOS only - on Android that button links to Googles recording app (there are much better recorders, and built in system recorders if available are usually better still).

For switch, the square button on the left joycon will record up to 30 second clips if you hold it down. Important to note that this will record past screen activity, not current. For longer, real time video on switch, you either need a capture card, or you need to aim a phone/camera/etc at your screen and record that way. (It should also be noted that Nintendo switch has a limit of 1000 videos - once this has been reached, it will not record anymore until you clear some off)

• Both hands are necessary if you want to play fast or more complex chords
• It's similar to typing on a keyboard but i have my hands angled more outwards as opposed to nearly perpendicular
  (( like this / \ versus | | ))
• My most used fingers are my index fingers and my thumbs. I use my middle fingers 3rd often and my ring fingers only for really large and complex chords! Rarely ever use my pinkies but it comes it handy when a note is "far" away from the previous one.
• after that, all it takes is practice :0

Regular piano cuz so many reasons ! It has a nice natural reverberation to it even if you’re not in a cave. It also is the most accurate sounding instrument in the game to the instrument it’s supposed to be in real life. And it just sounds so pretty

it does - you have to turn music on , head to the place with the key you want, wait for the key to change (you can have your instrument out to test), then turn music off

So you could actually go to waste land, find a key you like, turn the music off, and then go anywhere else and you’ll still play in that Key

Hi, I don't know if it's a game error, but when I use an instrument, I can't play more than 3 notes at the same time, it just won't let me do it and I just play 2, which is somewhat annoying

Heylo - It could be your device, some devices can't accept as many simultaneous taps. For example, my Huawei can only accept three at the same time, whereas my LG has a limit of five.

A work around for this is to offer a slight offset or roll to your chords, so you're technically tapping each note at a different time. A bonus of this is it can lend itself to making your music sound a little more delicate

It's prolly an issue with the game UI then - I know that not that long ago it was messed up pretty badly by an update, such that many players couldn't play at all. There may be some residual gick in the system since then ^^;
