I did water trial with a friend about an hour ago and when we got out of the trial we couldn't see each other. when they honked I could see their little star on the edge of my screen but they appeared to be underground. I assumed they glitched into oob. was it a bug?

The problem with the pattern is they're sort of on their own timings, so even if you can memorize them individually, the timings for when they get close to each other is mostly unpredictable.

@hollow compass i think the point of it is to up the difficulty for the folks who want an extra challenge either in addition to eden or in place of (when even that has become routine). Like any good video game, it should get harder as you go and get more proficient— but definitely leave your feedback on the difficulty level since they are still actively tweaking that good luck and don‘t let it make you feel inadequate! No video game is worth that (even sky)

@amber umbra that is a good point, although Sky doesn't rely too heavily on levelling up for proficiency and especially not during these trials, where we are literally stripped off all our abilities. It's a bit like not being allowed to use gravity shifting in Gravity Rush.

@hollow compass true, you make good points! Though I would pose that the realms themselves do require increasing proficiency (GW is objectively much harder than prairie for example) and eden is like the pinnacle of those.
Also, if you‘ve ever played Breath of the Wild, it‘s like Eventide Island. You are stripped of everything you collected thus far and have to find orbs and fight enemies using only the things you find on the island. My point of this is (and my apologies for the off topic reference), it acts as a clean slate of sorts for you to focus solely on your own skills and proficiency (without the bonuses that items give — in the case of Sky, that would be our flight wedges that we earned over time).

Season of bang head on desk. In seriousness though, I have a love/hate relationship with difficulty of fire trial. I've played harder games, it just felt more justified in those games when I died compared to the first fluff ball area where their pattern doesn't sync to each other, so if you miss that perfect pass, you're waiting like 5-7 rotations before you get them aligned correctly again and at 30-45 secs a rotation, that's an eternity going solo. (But then, all that's negated with a piggy totem pole, so there's that)

There are a couple of safe candles that are lifesavers. Like on the second part, starting from the lantern after the thin hallway, you wait on the third candle for the whisper to pass before you keep going and it makes it super easy, barely an inconvenience.

im not even a new player, but i don't play this game to feel like im stuck and can't go next because of the wind or the shadows in the fiar trial, i literally play it to chill. so uh ye it's great that the trials are challenging, i get that, but for the newer players or people who don't play often and have poor controls it may be actually upsetting (?) in a way. so it's different for everyone, and were not talking about making the trials like another realm with no real dangers, we're talking about changing small aspects of it so it actually feels balanced, like with the wind. also sorry if im talking in broken english, not my native language lmao hope the message is kinda clear here
