Not entirely sure if this is the right place to share this, but today I was talking to my friends who are all anticipating the android release and it became a discussion where it led to the possibility of Sky becoming available for other platforms and whether or not TGC would be able to transfer saved data to those.

I remember I used to play BDO (Black Desert) before they used Steam and I couldn't ever recover my existing account - only for multiple admins telling me after submitting numerous tickets that I would have to re-buy the game through Steam. (Which tore me to pieces cause I spent so many hours on it rip)

@plush dagger are you both using the correct version? Live invites won’t work in beta, and beta invites won’t work in live. Also, friend invites are single-use, so if the code has already been used then it’ll give you an error when you try to scan it. You can try sending your friend the code instead, or ask them to create a new one for you! 😊

Something really weird just happened to me. I did Eden this morning with my live account then logged into beta and did Valley (wing light and candle light collection). Just now, I went to do Valley with my live account and I couldn’t get any candles from the races or candles but all my wing light kids were still there.

Ya same, I feel like the current Home hub is way too small. In the old version, I like that managing friends happened in a different area from the portals, it seems more peaceful and I can take my time if I have a lot of friends.

I think while it could be fine: I don't enjoy the idea of any sort of competitive ranking in this game. That being said.. if other people can't see your ranking it might be okay. I dislike the idea of players judging other players based on a superficial rank.

Feedback on social ranking: I see no practical use for it. I don’t need others to know how kind or helpful I am. I don’t want to be approached at all and any time by people expecting me to help (much like the beta cape with the secret area). It’s usually obvious if someone is new in the game and then it’s up to us more experienced players to help, if we have the time and energy in that moment.

Social Ranking: I like the idea of it being a more private thing. Other wise you have players "helping" each other for the wrong reason. It is quite a vain feature that pulls away from the altruistic feel of the game.

My take on the social rankings:
I don't think it adds much to the game, and what it does add is more of a competitive vibe which I don't really feel is very fitting for this game either. I prefer to judge player's experience with the game from their cosmetics and stars on their back rather than a weird badge floating above their heads.

I can't tell if everyone can see my shepherd badge now or not? I don’t mind having a badge to signify helpfullness as long as its sort of volunteer based, and you can switch it off if you need to. Sometimes I really am just there to help out new players and having a little badge to signify that could work? But othertimes i just want to spend time with friends or just want to play it solo and admire the scenery.

I think also if it were to be kept, maybe find a smaller/different way to display it. Theres a lot of clutter on the screen with the names, chatboxes, AND the badge overlaying things that could be messy on smaller screens

I don’t really like the social rankings the way they are right now— it motivates people to help for the wrong reasons instead of being genuinely good. I’d like to show I’m willing to help!! But not like this, rather show my experience through friending someone and showing them to a hard-to-reach star or bringing them to a cool spirit place on my own.
It has the “oh I’m just trying to get my ranking up” vibe— it’s competitive, people are judging you over it and instead of “oh I just want to help you, it was hard for me” it turns into “I want to up my rank”

I don't really see much benefit to having the social ranking, there could be other ways to signal that you want to help new players, or even the other way around where the new player signals that they want to be helped. If you were to implement social ranking I'd make the meter completely invisible, so even the player cannot see their own meter, just to prevent any competitiveness. Though i don't really see any issue since theres no cosmetic benefit other than having the shepherd icon above your head.

I don’t mind the ranking too much, but I don’t see how it adds anything to the game. Like others have said you can see if someone else is a veteran or a moth just by their looks and play style. If the rank stays, maybe find a way to place it somewhere else (maybe on the friend menu when you tap someone, or a cosmetic?) and make it optional, so people can decide if they want to toggle it on or off to signal they want to ask for/offer help

I like that you can see new players, makes it much easier to distinguish between actual new players who are looking for help with the basics, and those who have just returned from Eden and are looking for stars.
As a suggestion, if you are in the server with a new player, or someone who hasn't collected spirits, could you make the starting position visible to all players, as its hard to explain that you can't see what they can in just emotes.

Thats a great point Maelstrom, if something like the shepherd badge is kept, could it toggle a spark or something where the spirits starting positions are? There can be some guesswork when it comes to leading new players around a level and wanting to help them with stars and emotes as the starting positions for emotes you already have are invisible.

Thoughts on social ranking system:

First, I think it's good that players cannot know what exact things they need to do to increase the scale.

And I also think it's somewhat good to have no reward when player get the shepherd badge. However, it'll also have less effect on encouraging people to be kind and helpful. (For me I don't care whether i'm not a shepherd because the badge itself is not appealing me.)

There’s a possibility that one small group of players all get a shepherd badge because they’re very generous to each other, but they’ve never been nicer to strangers. (This is not a problem if the system have a decent rule to make account for the player’s overall contribution to the whole game society.)

The badge is a bad idea cause it divide players into different categories. Shepherd badge doesn't mean the player is willing to help, also no shepherd badge doesn't mean the player can't help you. Newbie badge doesn't necessary mean this is a new player. (My alt has never get rid of its newbie badge) Currently, the most apparent information the badges on others give me is that, this is a Shepherd, that’s a Newbie. (Notice this is different from telling me the player is helpful or needing help) In before the pattern on cape tells how long has this player actually played the game and interacted with people, I think it’s better than a single badge.

To conclude, the social ranking system is a bit pointless in terms of improving the core concept of the game. (It might improves new players’ experience, but I’m not standing for this point in this feedback)

I think that the badge could be improved upon. I kinda agree with the others that while the feature has the best intention, it accidentally adds in a bit of competitiveness to the game. To remedy this, I really don’t think we should be able to see any progression bar, or really anything about it. It should also favor acts of kindness done to strangers than to friends. Any eligible player could then be given a notification with the option of becoming a shepherd. I do also agree that this feature should have the option to be turned on or off at will. I do think that people who aren’t your friend should be able to see this, not every new player is going to be your friend. I do also think that it should be some cosmetic on your character, not something that’s sore to the eye, but also not something that other players can miss. (People who haven’t used their candle to light you up should also be able to see this.) Finally, I think a shepherd should indeed be able to see spirits they’ve already collected. It shouldn’t be necessary to know every precise location of every spirit to help out another player.

I find it nice to be distinguished as a shepherd. But also it is too easy to get it. I would prefer it to be harder to earn. And after we earn it i would like to get some shepherd abilities. Like an ability to hold hands with people we’re not friends with (up to 8). Being able to guide a group. To see the spirits locations. So that we can help strangers. That would be fun use of the badge.

Feedback on the social ranking feature:
I personally think this feature is not necessary. It's unnatural to know who's friendly or not with a glance, and I also fear that applying social ranking system may destroy the beauty of casual/spontaneous social interactions and people's genuine kindness which we can experience in Sky now. In addition, encouraging senior players to help newbies may lead to excessive helping, which may spoil the newbies' precious experiences exploring the new, unknown world on their own or with other newbie explorers.
Therefore, if you are going to introduce this feature to live, I think players need a clear explanation on exactly why you are adding this feature. (And if a lot of newbies are complaining there's no one helping them in the game, there seem other more simple and natural ways which may solve it, like adding a "help" chirp or "help" flag.)
And if this feature will be going to live, I also think that Shepherds should be able to switch off the badge for reasons people already stated above, plus the following additional reason: Sky is a mobile app and I know my friends playing this game also when they only have a limited time, like during short breaks or while commuting on a train. Because of their badge, some Shepherds may feel uncomfortable and become reluctant to log in to Sky when they do have a time to complete some daily quests but not enough to help others.

Social ranking feedback ,
The overal idea behind it is good. But I’m afraid it will tear the sky community apart. I think the shepherd badge will turn into a status product and leave some people with a god syndrome. Also I don’t think newbies like to be seen as newbies by a badge. Sure , they aren’t that experienced yet but let them explore for themselves , make friends with other brownies and ask for help when needed. Personally I just put down my table when seeing a new player , make some small talk and ask them if they need help with something. I do that at times when I want too and when I’m not in a hurry , having a shepherd badge above my head will make me a target when I don’t have time to fulfill that role. If tgc insists on introducing the badge , let it come with a toggle option to turn it on or off on players will and make it less flashy. Like stated in above feedback, it’s kinda cluttering the screen and polluting the environments scenery.

I’m with the camp that feel it is unnecessary. You can tell who is experienced and who isn’t by their appearance/wedges/playing style. I play through to collect wax and I do this on my own so I can put it down and pick it up as and when I need/want to. Once I’m done, then it is time to socialise and interact with other players. Two completely different play styles, one fast and efficient, the other relaxed. The badge interferes with the view a bit too. I’m just... not a fan.

I think the badge system is good, but should be voluntary. Be able to turn it on/ off. Turn it on to let other people know that you can help, turn it off if you don't want to at the time. Implement other badges too (also able to be turned on/off).... I think just having it able to be turned on/off would help allieviate much of the problems people discussed.

Shepherd ranking system feedback—not a fan.

Newbie badges: They’re convenient; there have been a few times I was playing with someone who I thought was brand new, but after a while it became apparent they weren’t all that new, just hadn’t gotten a new cape or much for additional cosmetics. Still, like others have said, I can usually tell who the newbies are by their cape color, how many cape stars they have, and by how they play. And not all the newbies want help or know how to play with other people. If I go up to someone who is/seems new, they’re just as likely as not to ignore me and go off and do their own thing.

Shepherd badges: Don’t like ‘em. Visually they take up a lot of screen space. They look like police badges, which is weird. It is also hard to find out what they mean—tapping on them doesn’t do anything, and I don’t know how many people will tap on the little icon in the one part of their friend constellation screen. As an experienced player, I don’t really need or want to see them. When I have one, I don’t like it being visible to everyone all the time because sometimes I just want to solo play or just play with friends, and I’d be worried people who know what the badge means would come up and expect me to stop and play with them.

It was also weird to me that I got my badge within just a few days after the feature was introduced. The impression that gives me is that it’s based off of a few instances or episodes of playing, rather than consistent or reliably helpful behavior.

Bigger concerns: that people will treat the shepherd badge as a status symbol such that helping people becomes a means to an end, rather than helping people for the enjoyment of it. For the same reasons, I would also be strongly against giving a player a reward for having or keeping Shepherd status.

I'd like to add something that was brought up on FB: the possibility that people, or rather trolls, will abuse the system just like some have messed with people by using the table. Sadly, it's not possible to force people to be kind and helpful; it must always come from within the person themselves. A badge doesn't make friends. Someone famous once said: labels are for canned food. 😉

The ranking system honestly just splits players in groups, and it’ll make people feel like someone who has a badge is better than them or is always up to help someone. Though I like the idea of a toggle-able helper badge that lets the starting points of the missing spirits and the missing stars of the person you’re holding glow. I hate wanting to help a friend, not knowing where the starting point of the spirit they need is and just running around an area cluelessly trying to touch the spirit 😓

a social ranking system seems kind of clunky and implies a hierarchy of kind of... aggressive competitive friendliness? it feels a little overwhelming. I like the idea from a little bit ago of toggling a Shepard badge on or off to show that you’re available and willing to help guide people through areas or show them things. sometimes im just running through the game for candles that day, other times ill be in wasteland or something and im just hanging around because im actively looking for folks to help.

Im very interested in the idea of a helper badge/mode you can turn on that reveals a spirits starting locations (ive recollected stars often enough that i got their positions memorized). Maybe instead of a floating badge icon it could be a visual effect on the character? Sorta like how volunteers at parks will have a nametag on their clothes that signifies they’re here to help. If its an effect on the player model themselves that could potentially avoid overcluttering the screen with names/symbols/chatboxes that are already there.. (However im a bit stumped as to what that visual effect on the player model could possibly look like 😅)
Perhaps first you still have to earn the helper mode by certain requirements and then after you can turn it on and off. I’m not a fan of the idea of there being a reward for having this shepherd helper badge though

Regardless of what happens with the shepherd badge thing, I would absolutely love love love to be able to see where spirit starting locations are. I’m lucky enough to have played the big beta reset and the global launch recently enough that I can basically remember where everything is, but there’s only a tiny proportion of players who’ve had that advantage.

I think Valley's weakness is that you're locked in a mode that is just transport without a means (other than that one candle at the end)

I don’t know why they took out facepalm (and oh the animation for it was so good), but I suppose it can more easily come across as rude than other emotes. But mostly I used it to refer to myself or annoying situations, like “ugh not that bug again.” I miss it, but a similar sentiment can be conveyed with other emotes. I miss ones like sThink and sKiss so much more that don’t have any other approximations.

Shepherd status feedback.

I believe it is an important idea. Allowing to shape the community by spreading the values and altruistic behaviors on which Sky is based.

The badge itself is useless. It doesn’t give us any shepherd abilities. As a shepherd i would like:

to be able to offer my hand to any player, regardless if we’re friends or not. Allowing to make a group of people to shepherd
for other players in the same area to be able to take my hand and to warp to me, especially if they are in trouble
to be able to talk to people i’m holding hands with

And instead of the badge would be great to get an ability to ask creatures of light to follow us by our side (and to stop following as well). Having a shepherd dog, bird or a butterfly is much nicer then just a badge. That can also act as switch on/off of shepherd status (and abilities).

I commented on the FB post also, saying that there is unfortunately a risk that there will be people who would abuse a system where we can hold hands with strangers. Having a visible badge that tells people you are trustworthy doesn't necessarily mean you really are.

Trying to open the front door brings out candle but doesn't open the door, getting in through the skylight works, but lighting candles does not give wax, and melting plants makes them turn orange but not shrink at all?

Unfortunately you can't edit, you'd have to resubmit all over again. If you want (and have the time) to add the video, just start a newreport and notate that it's for your previous submission. About a month or two before global launch there was a progress and access wipe and you had to rejoin beta

#

So those beta players got the beta cape automatically because that’s what they had in the system

#

But if you contact support they can still help you

Yeah I went into forest, ran into a wind wall at the edge somewhere and got the same message you got. What I don’t like, and what I have never liked, is depending on how far through the level you are, you get pointed to the start sometimes rather than the end. If I got lost, I’d want to know which way to go to progress through the level, not get directed back to the beginning of it. This was a major issue for me in the graveyard swamp in golden wasteland as a newer player. I’d get turned around while in the hiding spaces, wouldn’t know which way to go so would chirp and follow the direction of the symbol, assuming that was the direction the end of the level was. Of course it wasn’t, and I’d end up doing a loop of the map and back at the start of it again. 😕

I would like to trick-or-treat at the office and get candy that I can actually eat. But (and this will be an unpopular opinion) I think the bat cape is actually a little too non-Sky in style. It makes sense in the office, but doesn't match the rest of the world. It's even more "cosmetic" than most of the cosmetics to me, if that makes any sense at all.
