The beta discussion should be renamed as the beta conspiracies
well i mean when you do start to think about it we can assume there was around 10k actual beta testers (including prior tests) that got to forest, so we can assume the general 12 hours (720 minutes) divided by the 10k beta testers to be given capes meaning you would need to do around 15 people per minute so then you would also need to take into consideration of how many people are actually distributing, etc.

@dire rover the beta is basically same as live right now, but it was hugely different from the limited live for a while. We tested major patches before the limited live version received the patch
So they may use beta the same way in future - testing upcoming patches, etc

Beta players who played and finished at least Forest before Live launch, which was 18th July, are eligible for the cape. We think it also includes those who played before the reset, which was about 2 weeks before Live launch. Then TGC gave players until the 9th August to connect both accounts to Game Center, so that they knew who was who in each version.
The reset unfortunately meant that some old-time beta testers weren't able to rejoin, because the invite went out publicly and quickly filled up with new players.

Collectibles is a big part of the game due to how they have set up the heart economy and cash shop of candles and season passes. This is likely an item that won’t be available for some time or at all. Technically it’s very natural to see this kind of reaction around rare items

Betas these days are game demos, where players preorder and expect unique items that are special, making them feel beta about their decision of purchasing the game early or with extra content.
Having a coveted unique cape is interesting and like rare trading cards has value
Sadly I’m expecting some to sell their Apple ID with Game Center ID on eBay or other shadier places for some money if it turns out the cape won’t be available via conventional means
Hopefully, the cape is a dev cape or special general gift cape they intend to give out in very limited batches following contests or something along those lines

I like to think of beta access as an honour with an obligation. Of course I too feel a pinch of envy when I see an exclusive item in other games, but at the same time, I assume that anyone who has that item has earned it for some reason.

If they do a limited cape vs a forever unavailable cape they will both gain interest around contests they hold as well as players and in actuality; customers, likely paying customers that want this cape to collect them all and gain notoriety, so TGC would get more hype around future contests where the price could be this cape.
The beta is for those who have an interest in guiding the vision of the studio as a customer, and most get paid in the early stages
Betas have really lost their real meaning with companies hiding “betas” as game demos of the final retail product. You can’t expecta weekend “beta” two weeks before release to actually fix anything

@humble fossil That’s not a bug in the capes—they’ve never had shadows even since beta early days. Someone last week mentioned/joked off-hand it was because the capes are made of light and so that’s why it doesn’t cast shadows. Works for me 😂

I asked TGC support about a week ago if they’d be able to verify that my account would indeed receive the cape, but they said, “We currently don't have a list of users that will receive the cape,” so I’m not sure how they know who qualifies and who doesn’t, or if they have that list compiled now.

@spark lance the spirits turned gold when I ascended them with the storm candles and their entire menu is gold but the icon in the constellation did not turn gold or the brighter white. The completed ones appear the same as the others until I call them down.
