As far as i know it's the server merging that causes the vines to regrow. And when that happens you have to honk a little to get the ends of the vines to start burning again. If you stop honking too soon they regrow again. Luckily you can half honk or squat honk instead of fully deep honk. But yah it's a very annoying bug and just keeps incentivizings people to honk more.

I heard that it has to do with how far other players are from the plant. So when you're alone, burning works. When you get merged and other players are far away, candles stop working. But when those players come closer the burning may work again.

It would make some sense from my experience, but I've also had situations where other players were next to me, burning the same plant as me, and they could burn it while my candle wouldn't work and I had to honk instead.

Yes, it's bugged. The darkness particles are invisible to me half the time as well. For the wax, I had more luck on mobile than on PC, but I did get it on PC as well a few times.

You get the wax when all the darkness particles are removed. You don't always get the full amount the first time, but you can redo it as much as you like. Eventually you'll hit a daily limit.

It usually takes me like 4-5 tries to get to the limit. I have to teleport back home and there again many times when darkness is invisible.

i turn wifi off, teleport and start a spirit, then turn wifi back on to clean the darkness, almost every day ive got all 200 wax on one try

To be honest, it might be required to rescue the birds first. I don't know, because I usually do them anyway - it takes much more time to clear the darkness than to rescue the 3 of them, and you can do both at the same time!
