Depends on how much you wanna grind. You can get up to just over 20 candles per day if you get as much wax as possible to hit your goal in about a week. If you want a more comfortable grind you can go for 15 a day, and reach you goal in about 10 days

This game's primary mechanic is the ways it allows you to enjoy the game with friends, being a social game, so I think it's a valid defence. The game does have a lot of stuff to do, but since so many of those things aren't more efficient than CRs or don't earn candles, they tend to get ignored.

That being said, I do think the game should do more to incentivise solo play

I think the biggest problem with Sky is definitely the overruse of grinding. There are a lot of things you can do in Sky with people or alone, places anf easter eggs to find and people to meet, but when you spend the first hour of your gametime grinding candles, do you really have the stamina to do anything else?

I've lately begun to really appreciate the things Sky has, but that's only because I've grinded long enough that I have all the things I want and don't need to spend candles anymore. You shouldn't need to play for 3+ years to actually relax in the game

I don't see it as a social game, it's a singleplayer game with some barebones multiplayer tacked on to it. Existence of social mechanics doesn't make it social. There's no to little cooperative aspect to it. Similarly a lot of the other features are just as barebones as the multiplayer it has. I just see it as though people just don't want to engage with them when they're very tedious. Personally that's my gripe with shared spaces and I have generally no care towards shared memories myself.

Don't get me wrong I am not trying to invalidate others' enjoyment but "I had fun" as a defense against criticism about how the mechanics themselves work and how they're lackluster, it's - for lack of a better word - irrelevant, but I frankly failed to find the social parts of it, especially different games I've played that don't really label themselves as one, do a better job at it than Sky did.

If there's anything I'd label to be my personal biggest gripe is that the game some way or another gets you to do some candle running even when the only reason you're playing is to socialize with how expensive friendship trees are. It gets even worse with how there's very little to do with friends - Sky ends up being an online hangout game, it started its existence being a foundation for something that could blossom into a really fun game, but 7 years into its existence, it still exists and expands as that foundation instead of building upon it. You're absolutely right with your statement in the message a couple of mins ago where you said "You shouldn't need to play for 3+ years to actually relax in the game" but that's exactly what it's built to be, a tedious adventure game that shamelessly exploits the goodwill of its community
