#2024-game-jam

i feel bad that ellie and layna kinda just hand you their data
Our audio team made 3 whole ass songs and i could only put in 1 and a half
.
I feel bad
I only got 1 out of 3 - 5 levels in
Well, all I can say is that I recommend playing our game Abandoned Pub
i even had a neurodog sprite put in and i didnt get to make any content where you test drive him
Oh damn, yea I get that xD
@south hazel holy shit you killed boss using the enemy turret AI cuz you ran out of ammo
link?
wildly unexpected
sort by popular and youll find it right at the top
Atleast i put in our main song, which we're considering releasing on youtube cuz it fucking slaps
friendly fire
had just enough ammo to make it to the boss only to not have the ammo to kill the boss so you kill it using the enemy turret top shit
yeah i enabled friendly fire for the enemies so you can lead their fire into each other
I'd always upload the soundtrack somewhere, there are always bound to be people enjoying it enough to wanna get it
to encourage people to roll through the bullets like in the thumbnail
(shameless plug)
i wonder how many other people ended up using the swarm sprites i had made
they were fantastic for the theme
Since everyone is plugging their games....
Be the first to rate it!
fuck
wrong link
lol
ehem
Since everyone is plugging their games....
Be the first to rate it!
https://alexsto.itch.io/fragments-of-humanity
Gotta make better cover art for it at some point
Slightly ashamed plug
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213324
This game's really cute
Thanks
I ain't ashamed of plugging mine until someone actually rates it
Also @potent stirrup played your game!! Loved the pixelart
where kotgedev game
hint hint - plug your game! 😄
Was goin to comment that these nwero game jams have been the single most helpful advertisement to my nwero RPG sprites
but err I guess I can plug our team's game again https://kotgedev.itch.io/life-dream-memory
Thanks for this, by the way!
Next time I'm hiring an actual artist and not just slap programmer art on my cover
Yeah Kotge is the GOAT, I wouldn't have done nearly as well last jam if it wasn't for these fantastic sprites
I probably should update them at some point tho made them more then a year and half ago from promote's request and they're still my most succesfull sprite set
TIL neuro covered TUYU
iirc covers in that game have been made by the team
TUYU?
This one is cool
Ye, we made everything ourselves
The neuro voice is done by superbox and wispers
TUYU is a japanese band
Are you guys like a group of friends who went to sound school together or something, so uncommon to see a majority audio group in a jam
Oh you mean on minigame 2?
I got those samples from superbox, its from their RVC training data
its a song on the gigavedal laptop
well its been fun but its time for me to sleep again
time to play all of recommended games
have fun guys

No, stay up and make games
We're kinda friends, we all hang out in #programming
Ah I see
Sleep well!!
btw what did you guys use for planning during the game jam
We threw ideas at the wall and then did a poll
notepad
Trusty .txt list of todos
we found a manager
i lit a candle and hope for good
they made a trello board
google sheet's new table feature was pretty helpful
we didn't use it that much, most of our planning was just vc
how do you even plan on notepad
I do not own anything in this clip
Source: neuro karaoke! 9/27/2023
Original song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olWvy0PiLfA
#neurosama #aivtuber #cover #singing #comparedchild #tuyu
type shit out
Thanks, we had a pretty big team, and everyone did his best to deliver a fun game
scrolling 🙂
Thats probably where they got the samples from ye
Single person lucklily does not require much planning
day 1: did nothing, was intending to sit this one out.
day 2: had concrete idea, convinced myself to implement it. queue internal screaming due to unanticipated weird behaviour
day 3: feature freeze, polish up whatever was ready, fix a few bugs, add a few more levels.
What is planning?
i recognised all of the covers but that one caught me off guard lol
I basically winged it the whole way based on what I had and what felt like it would get done in time
as soon as I had a feasible idea I just winged it lol
None of the minigame 2 audio had the music, so it weird to hear it with the music.
this tho honestly, solo dev just means i dont need to run shit by anyone
you caught my favourite lol
brick by boring brick was there

i prefer evil's version to the original
if 2d : polygon collider in unity
top shit
my saviour

legitimately let me generate the advanced collider geometry needed for my level design
one click
top shit
collision from mesh is the best
Our game's collision is all just python code.
It does the job okay, most of the time
First two days I built tons of foundation and the third day I had to actually make all the rooms and dialogue and everything cuz I realized I'd run out of time if I didnt just go for it
in 3d
2d is different like if its for a sprite
i would have an aneurysm trying to animate a 3d model in time
our original concept, got downsized by 90%
#neurosama #vtuber
2142 – One hundred years have passed since 2042.
In the year 2042, a security AGI seized control of nuclear facilities in two countries, bringing about the cold and calculated end of humanity.
In 2142. Neuro Sama AGI tries to send her code back in time to save the world.
A Neuro-sama Birthday Game Jam Submission
Game Jam...
jesus fuck
psd export better
Can you do that in Miro?
insanity tho lmfao
i wish i had the time to build out the story tho
i spent most of my time on the mechanics and level design
Cursed fact, the cookie munching noises in my game are recorded by me matching the animation, overlaid with a few audio effects.
and trying to make sure the game wasnt unplayably difficult for most people while being challenging
@warm tundra oh wow u included the Web download too, thats very generous of ya
Oh ye, i think we never mentioned this, but its all just python code
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213324
Its all python? 🧑🚀
Always has been
Our 3D models? Literaly 100's of numpy files with thousands of numbers
You need a premium plan to export anything above 1080p, I can make a screenshot with higher resolution 💀
Pdf just combines all the separate notes and blocks in to a book of pages, no memes
That is gloriously cursed.
Already rated 10 entries
265 to go
theres a drink carbonator
bottom right
There is a "carbonator" that carbonates your drink, it's below the book on the map
That’s a lot of games
We might need our whole team of 12 people playing, to rate all of them
what the fox doing on the beach
I barely rated all of 121 games in last game jam, how am i supposed to play double that amount

I've only played 3 so far lol. Spent a few hours trying to get webgl 2 to work (to no success, hardware limitation) so I could play kotgedev's game
I'm glad you had a great time ^^
I also can't play vedals
damn
came in clutch
@white holly the guy deleted his shit and was trying to get it reuploaded but they had no clue if it's the same one
Now that it's morning in EU (and I woke up), I'll hopefully catch some more eyes upon my game by posting the link again. So far people thought it was amazing, so make sure to add it to your lists ^^
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213257
This game is fantastic, I recommend it
@misty tree loved your game, the enemy design is really good and the story twist at the end was great too
816 ratings so far, thats an average of 2 rating per submission so far
About 1% of possible amount of votes
i suppose a lot of people are still winding down after game jam, it was quite tiring after all
Yeah its understandable, same for me. rated on a few games myself for now
i slept like 11h, it' almost 1pm here lol
yeah, i also need to repair my sleep schedule
Yeah, our team plans to do a “game-along” on Jan 2, and rate as many of them as we can
it would be nice if rating would be extended to two weeks total or something
nah i think 1 week is enough personally
I feel like one week is plenty but then again it's my first jam so what do I know haha
the faster we can update our game the better
I agree, since people are also integrating the API. I liked when it was very long last time so I had time to play everything
mhm, everyone's game deserves to be played at least once. After all, everyone put quite the effort into making their own games
Alex might increase rating period if it's really necessary
I try my best to play em all
My plan is to rest and catch up on everything I missed out on during the jam rn (and celebrate new year), 2nd half of 1st or jan 2nd I'll start trouncing through a lot of the various games and see what people cooked
I will be busy soon, so I already rated 16 or something games
I did about 20 shorter ones
I've already got 5 ratings on my game which is pretty good considering the average is 2 rn, a much better pace than having to beg for votes at the end last time just so I don't get penalized
sadge, no one rated ours yet (cli is unintuitive)
What penalty
Which one
wait i thought i did
Totally!! There's also a lot of hidden gems people might miss otherwise
If vedals subathon ends before the end of the rating period, I'll extend the rating period until vedal ends his break
yes they did I think ? (last time I check there was 4)
no its not here
wait what
Yay! ratings extended for eternity
bottom right. we got 4
oh lmfao
last year if your game had a less than average amount of ratings, your game score would get like a 0.95x multiplier penalty or so, some complex math formula based on how many less ratings than average your game had
I barely came out without a penalty last time lmao
Oh this one, its on my to playlist when I have time cause it seemed like a long one
it's not long, it's maybe like 10 minutes
Oh, then I’ll play it soon
I’ll leave a comment when I do
(much shorter if you know how)
yo, any one here who wants their game to be checked out? There's so many that I don't know which ones to play, so send them my way 👍
Been abit, shameless plug again
name
adjustment = sqrt(min(median, votes_received) / median) (at least from a thread of a year ago)
I played this game, so cute!
Yeah! I made a game where you can fight an ermshark and recruit vedal
Shameless plug time? Shameless plug time: https://shardhash.itch.io/branching-paths
Shard's game is awesome, I recommend it
condom game return
thank ya, gonna check these out yo!
Thank you! There’s quite a few depressing stories due to the theme, I wanted to make something light and fluffy haha
yeah I was just about to redraw that lol
My intuitive response was to make a horror game and then I saw alot of people were doing dystopian stuff
So I went with happy
I had a really unique turn based game idea at first where you dig up tiles and shoot incoming drones but I didn't love it
Discarded it for an idea I loved and will do it again in a heartbeat
Bobo
pinoy ka ba
this is awesome
Glad you liked it
really happy with how it turned out
Made our board public for viewing, it's mostly in Russian, but we tried to convey all the ideas visually anyway, so you might find it fun to explore
https://miro.com/app/board/uXjVL78WvRk=/?share_link_id=494634236538
That is an idea for a FNAF-like game about Staz
The list of games I can't play grows ever longer. Classic.
Can't play:
Vedal's
Kotgedev's
Neuro tactics
Neurotopia
Surviwan
Treasures of the sands
Unhando
I was looking forward to playing these more than most of the other games
I posted this logo in #1194088101627297924 before, I placed in near overcooked to convey that this gameplay loop can be apply to many things outside of cooking, like PC building
Why is it you can't play?
shameless plugs
oh, non-browser games is hard mode
I am professional shameless plugger

how make a browser game ? i already exported my game in html but dont know how integrate it to browser
bro your game is literally #1 in popularity rn, it plugs itself
the export has an index.html, right?
just tick a checkmark [] this is a browser game
Vedal's and kotgedev's don't have a windows download, and use webgl 2 which I can't run due to hardware limitations.
Surviwan is the same but with windows download and opengl2
The rest just don't start up for me, so no clue
We gave it a good kick-boost by posting all the unused assets
They look so good, so sad we couldn't add them in time

just like last time
Wow, 30 ratings? That's like 10x what I got so far. I suspect that I really hurt my chance to get ratings by not being more direct with my neuro-references... https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3211818
Another I plan to try. Hopefully it works.
Feelin' lucky punk?
yes
we managed to put most of the art into the game
more worried that people will never see it because cli unintuitive
upload to itch and check that it's a browser version.
That is all.
Don't mind me, I'm just testing if itch has updated the preview
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213260
the zip file ?
I don't really have much expectations for score though, being a single dev without any custom art. I'm just happy I managed to cross the finish line. 🙂
HOLY cover art D:
yap. zip it and ship it.
true, getting the game done in and of itself is a miracle
Welp, no windows download.
me too, dont really expect stuff like abandoned pub from soloist in 3 days
Yeah, just getting a game done in 72 hours is something
I said I feel like weeklong jams are too much and raise the bar but I ended up being too ambitious this jam anyway lol
Good thing I can't rate games. I didn't participate
might be too serious, but eh, I have to settle with something
It's honestly cool and unique imo, I think storygames can benefit from cover art like this. That being said I did love the art in your game so that could work too
Honestly, I've found week-long jam's too be much less stressful. I managed to take more breaks, plan better and bounce less between things. I really struggled getting things outside my wheelhouse done in just 72 hours.
that shit was awesome dude, gameplay was fun and the art is great, its also easy to pick up, play, put down and comeback another time
You have unlocked new role
wat does this mean, im new here
If you can't play our game Abandoned Pub, I can send you a desktop build
What happened to the nixie clock
True, during weeklong jams you can actually work and plan ahead and maybe crunch at the very end, here's it a sprint all the way through D:
Yippie
I kinda wanted to add even more events and characters, might add a couple events for the Neuro integration and/or post jam version
im glad its just 72 hours personally
i crunch anyway
AH
so everyone crunching is a vibe
OH WOW I CAN SEND LINKS NOW, i think
Yeah. In a way, it's kinda comforting. The top tier entries are on a whole other level, with large multi-talent teams, so I don't feel the pressure to compare myself to them. 🙂
i can send links too (shameless plug) https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3211830
You gan plug now
https://ishinada.itch.io/neuro-wars
heres my work
its like pokemon, it evolved into Cathode Tube Schematics
I think crunching is a symptom of bad time management imo, but, I had to crunch the last night this jam because I pivoted to a different idea mid day 1
i slept a total of 8 hours for it
CHECKING IT OUT
Thanks, I'll check that out. The ones I managed to play are neuro wars, untitled tower defense (on my phone) and super pinball rouge, so there's a good chance my PC is too crap
oh no i was crunching the whole time because i was trying to hit as much of the scope of my game as i could while having fun gameplay
I was a single programmer and writer and my scope was 3 mini games, a overworld and a cutscene system, there was no time for breaks haha
day 1 was basic mechanics
day 2 was level design/building
day 3 was story integration and balancing
i was fucking locked in all 3 days
You know, fair
ambition is a double edged sword, I suffered at its blade this jam too
i was at my grandma's taking care of her cuz she had a tumour removed from her neck and im going to hell for this but i deadass got someone else to come over and cook the meals so i would only need to reheat them for her
also had a lot of delivery
Hope she has a swift and easy recovery!!
Day 1 game mechanic
Day 2 Easter
Day 3 transition and polishing
yeah it was remarkably uneventful
she barely needed me there
i think i wasted some time for me
1st day was writing, concepts, and mechanics
2nd day was making the level editor to make levels easily, and make levels
3rd day was all spent on play testing and scrap polishing
i stayed there for 2 weeks anyway just to be sure tho
I don’t think you did, personally, 1/3 of your time should always be pre-production
by 1 week after surgery aside from some swelling she was doin great
If its a 3 day jam 1st day on preproduction
i think the entire process of my game dev is recorded here
i think its the third day that got wasted personally
I think crunch in a gamejam is very different from crunch in a work situation. You really have so little time with a hard deadline and very little time for pivots and unexpected things. It's really hard to plan perfectly under thos circumstances.
oops i forgot
Thus the 1/3 preproduction time haha
Unity ?
yep
playtesting took hours cuz its strategy heavy
Rolling Girl
i had to ride the bus for 5-6 hours so i spammed my friends with requests for them to playtest
Completely agree. It also feels like a more brutal deadline because it's so short
Yeah. That's one of the things I found much harder in a 72 hour jam vs. a week jam. In previous week-jams I've been part of, the first day (and parts of day 0) was really just preprep and planning.
im just glad i decided to put in a webGL version at the end
has been a boon lowering the requirements to play the game
I'm glad I made sure I verified I could build web and upload to itch on day 2, so that part was ready and not something I had to panic over in the last minute. Learned that one from previous jams 😆
im glad unity's webGL support is insane too
did not require much change for the webGL build
the original was a downloadable zip cuz ive never made a webgame before this
I planned to play rolling girl anyway. Will do later
and i realised while trying to download it that like fuck the install process is such a massive bitch
so i made a webGL version on top of the windows version
the windows version does have more content tho technically
shameless plug, 1 turn speedrun
Yea webgl gets you votes
originally i just didnt want people to not play it out of fears of malware
but thats a happy side effect
Yeah, I can't because of webgl 2. If the desktop build uses OpenGL 2 I also won't be able to run it for sure
The Vedal artillery is peak
Yeah, I played neuro wars first (first to work) didn't play past level 2 tho because evil Amazon started
Hmm, haven't really looked into the details of WebGL 1 vs 2. I just choose the compability mode in Godot, verified it worked for me and my mates, and then focused on working on other stuff 😆
How old is your hardware? OpenGL 2 is supported in hardware from 2008 onwards-ish.
WebGL 2 isn't the same as OpenGL 2 IIRC, as OpenGL 2 is ancient
True, but he noted he cannot play OpenGL 2 games either.
It's just surprising, because a toaster can run OpenGL 2...
My PC isn't that old, but I don't remember how old exactly. I think roughly 2016? I got it a couple years ago tho
And to be fair, I kinda just assumed opengl2 was basically the same thing
I'll look into that more later I guess. If I can get it to work I'll be able to play the newest versions of Minecraft which is a nice bonus
WebGL 2.0 is based on OpenGL ES 3.0, not OpenGL 2.0; so it's a pretty significant difference in what kind of devices are supported.
WebGL 1.0 is based on OpenGL ES 2.0, so if you couldn't run OpenGL 2.0, you probably wouldn't be able to run WebGL 1.0 either
It requires OpenGL ES 3.0 support, which is guaranteed by OpenGL 4.3 support. GPUs from 2012 onwards should support this.
So uh. Maybe a driver issue?
I suspect that as well, or possibly an browser issue
quick question, is it possible to change the description of the project?
Maybe, but I don't have time to look into it right now if I don't want to be squared (late for her waking up)
I got with Vedal to the end tile and finished my turn but it didn't finish the mission and then tried to retreat what should have I done instead? D:
And feel free to update the page, updating the game files is the issue imo
is this mission 1 or 2?
Mission 1
mission 1, bring neuro to the white tile
If you use firefox about:support, CTRL+F WebGL provides a lot of info about browser support for WebGL.
oh, if vedal dies in that level, he cant be used in future levels
Somehow that confused me haha
I'll just speedrun it this time
also you unlock evil at level 3, she can attack multiple times if she successfully kills a target
WebGL2 support should be in all major (desktop) browsers by now as well: https://caniuse.com/webgl2
sidenote, you can target allies, this is intended for evil to kill a low hp ally to be able gain more movement and energy
Checked 3 games, 2/3 godot. The unity one just crashed in the browser.
which unity game?
Does (shameless plug) https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3211830
work for you?
@sage sapphire I left a comment for you.
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3212223
Also guys. Please check the box to let itch put it into fullscreen mode.
Will do this right now actually
Thanks for the reminder
Something besides the same plugs over and over:
About using existing stuff: Most seem to be using mostly assets and code made for the game jam, right? For me as a programmer with like no art skills that would be an issue. Also it seems kinda cheesy to use existing code but pretty much all are using engines like Unity anyway. For my original idea I was thinking of using the FPS tutorial game as a base that comes with Unity and heavily modify it into a different genre but that kinda seems cheesy but again we are using engine features anyway. During the game jam I struggled because Unity doesn't really have a scrollable text area which is a super basic thing... What do you think about using existing / external stuff?
Little shameless plug for my team's game if people are looking for something to try
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213034
I mean, that should count as a library. Right?
It was not made explicitly for the jam too.
You can use existing code, that's totally okay - but if you create custom code for this jam specifically ahead of time that's kinda cringe and defeats the purpose of the jam
eh, depends on whether its disclosed in the rules whether youre allowed to, rules seem fast and loose here so its nbd
i did everything but the 3 sound effects in my game during jam time tho
Sure but I'm more talking about using a lot of general stuff compared to those using nothing. As an extreme example one could take a full game and quickly replace some assets to fit the game jam and call that a game jam game...
shameless plug. But not for my team game ! (my team's game is TroubleShooting if you want xd)
I was playing unrated game this morning, and I liked this one ! https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3211627
it is hard and, if you have no skill like me, take time with a lof of retry
troubleshooting goes hard
oh wait your game is trouble shooting
i havent tried evi's gateway
yeah mb, bad sentencing beofere I edited it
@winter aurora
call cerby
hug
call cerby
hug
call cerby
hug
yeah people do do that
literally added cerby 2h before the end btw.
it broke the "list" cmd bc I wanted to hide cerby on the character list. I accidently wrote != instead of == so it only display cerby
Just look at what I made: The Vedal and Neuro model are copied from Sketchfab, I quickly recolored Neuro into Evil, the whole surrounding terrain, plants and such are from the Unity store, the GUI theme as well... It's all disclosed in the Credits.txt but still feels cheesy.
Also, don't force the game into full screen, just let it be full screen.
My first two ideas would have required some kind of inventory and I gave up in the middle of the jam because that was just too much work. But if I would have had an inventory system from a previous project that would have been different...
oh shit so it shouldnt be just cerby??
I feel this, for years I struggled with inventory systems until I really had to implement one for a game I was making (not this jam game)
Abandoned Pub is an absolute cinema
now i understand why braza wanted to add another ending
dude abandoned pub had super fun gameplay
story wise and art wise
fucks
yeah
but the gameplay fucks too
underappreciated aspect
Fuck yeah, and if you fail a mission you can somehow remember what drinks and prep before the customer arrives.
my favorite prep drink is carbonated erm juice
That sounds so sus
they fucked the recipe for the lava lamp drink tho
yep it should be "anny, vedal, mini"
i kept calling vedal too
i was hoping there was some far off response you could get after you ran out of the first few
whatya mean?
nah sorry. we just wanted to write the copypasta so we made this thing
if i remeber
get lava lamp from safe, pour gin, blend with tomato and serve i think
in the book
the recipe is different from the in game recipe iirc
either that or im like single digit iq
My friend playtesting me and my artist's game got Vedal and two chat members on his boat x"DD cursed run
yes chat is a collection of sniffas and erms
Oh another kinda Minesweeper like looking game about digging up old stuff to fit the theme? 😄
The theme really didn't give us much to work with. Either fight or find something old or time travel stuff...
Sounds accurate.
It's not minesweeper! it's more like... resource management and ally collection
Thanks! Will test later
But yeah the theme was a bit weird this time
i think you misread and went to the mixer rather than blender
These theme was such: "Ah that sounds fine." but when you think about it, it kinda forces a generic backstory on you that you can slap onto everything and everyone kinda has the same story.
either that or i interpreted it as
"blend the mix, and tomato"
as opposed to
"blend the mix and tomato"
or if i was intended to mix them first before blending with the tomato
mildly ambiguous,
not that big a deal tho i fw the game
I tried to make the backstory at least somewhat interesting
A lava lamp drink is a great idea. Some ideas and art pieces in this game jam are really good and have a lot of soul so to say.
Oh, does it just end with a picture?
no more customers
sadge
but that was fun
man sucks we only got the sadge ending tho
Who has NOT played Memory Lanes and rated it yet
there was supposed to be a second ending, We may get that second ending once the jam gets unlocked
Yeah, we couldn't finish the endings, there was supposed to be the choice to leave with Vedal, and you would get this art instead
Two things I really should look into because they gave me trouble and limited me are surely character animations and UI stuff like general windows, buttons, scrollable text boxes and things like inventory systems or equipment screens. Having to come up with something like that in such a short game jam as an inexperienced Unity developer is a nightmare time eater and easily a failed project.
does vedal know that its neuro?
Not yet, probably would learn about it after the end of the story
I didn't miss a single drink :D
i missed one after fucking up and putting too much shit on my desk space
this makes me think of Journey
oh yeah
I almost, almost messed up lava lamp because I didn't see the safe until half way through
traveling through a vast desert with your companion(s)
i bought fucking clip studio paint right before the game jam started
i still havent tried it yet
XD
There is a trash bin on the bottom left, didn't include it in the tutorial unfortunately
i gotta get that out of the way
i saw it
i didnt have the time to throw shit away lol
i just put it aside
Skill issue
This one is sad. Looks good, but is hardoced for zqsd so basically unplayable in the amount of time that is worth spending on it.
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3211422
game so good that my recording of it took 40 mins
i missed a single drink because of the fucking lag spike :((
oof
Bonus: Godot has built-in tools for this exact issue, you can map to the physical location on the keyboard.
I feel awfully sorry to anyone that experiences a lag spike during the DDR section in my game, cuz I couldn't find any easy way to resync everything in case one happens on my engine
32 gigs of ram nice
I just hope and pray that everyone who plays it has a smooth time with it
the only game I played that ran poorly was the star rail clone
Ran well for me, but was not my thing.
I don't think anyone ran into any issues with Memory Lanes except maybe the difficulty??? I think??? If you haven't played Medabots, it might be hard.
im scared and worried, why is mine number 8th in popularity
How do I check popularity
In retrospect my game was mostly a basic Unity and particle learning experience, I spent like 12 hours on particle effects. Bad gameplay that would have required too much time to properly plan but the effects turned out nice. Now after the jam I was already thinking about making small games to learn things like character animation and inventory management next.
Wtf people aren't playing Memory Lanes
i need to go to church then i can play other games
i did play memory lanes for a whole 3 mins before pausing, im gonna play that too later
I tried it!!
its good tho
I have 0 clue why people make the game turn into an extra window >.<
i will play it, cant rate tho
It feels like Itch is not the right place for a jam like this.
yo, anyone who wants their game to be checked out? Send them my way 👍
played A bandoned rchive
it was good
thought the room layout spelling no time was funny
lots of funny things actually
https://ishinada.itch.io/neuro-wars shameless plug
I found it neat because I like Advanced War
@fleet goblet the "kisor" game seems to be made uhh quite some time before the jam?
I'm still on lvl 5 in the advance wars one
Classic "submit to every single jam" Itch.io developer
the download file is from 26th december 5pm utc
so i highly assume, before the jam entirely made
Here ya go, in case ya missed it ^^
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213257
might be decent game but i dont want to rate it if its just thrown in
bruh I just killed anny she did nothing but heal herself feels bad man

is that cerber?
yea
Thanks for letting me know!
For the future please use the "Report submission" button though because I sometimes miss stuff in Discord
ah okay, will do
Hell yeah! We're Cerber bros! I added Cerber and Minawan into my game as well xdd
(its cerby not minawan btw)
(oh, welp that's awkward then)
also das not my game XD
tbh this errors happens a lot dw
Thanks
The idea and the concept was proposed by me, Troobs written all of the story and it turned out very good.
It had 2 endings planned from the beginings, we even made art for it. Unfortunately we couldn't implement it in time
https://discord.com/channels/574720535888396288/1323408878310002790
I've only ever heard the dog to be referred to Minawan, so I just assumed I was right without doing any deeper research xd
I just noticed this section
the one without horns is Minawan, the one with horns is Cerby, got it
yep !
sometimes i wish the rating was up to 10 stars not 5 bc i want to add an extra half star
Holy the amount of GameJams this has been submitted to
Yeah gonna report it
Guys, if I can't upload anything to submission now, but would like to somehow add wasm version for playing in browser, how would I proceed? Create another game and link to it from submission? Lol
Huh I don't see it
you can edit your game after the rating period ends
probably already taken care of
the point is to make their life easier by providing web version
Yeah this dude literally submitted to every GameJam possible, probably didn't read the rules either
lol that is pretty much exactly what is stated is against the rules
as in linking to a "updated" version from your current submission
thats why Im asking, my game sucks though so nobody loses
If it's exactly the same version, I guess you could try contacting Alex
ye I just want to build it for web
The build process is part of the jam submission, many others also had to cut corners so currently what is uploaded is the final state for the jam
I guess I won't go for a precedent like that, my game is a single 10mb executable so it's not that bad
I also uploaded debug build lol it could be like half of it
uploading debug build is a classic
id cringe if people could be able to see my debug.log output
I submitted 4 minutes prior deadline (extended one LOL) so had no time to test if release build would break anything
I would love to change the upgrade system in my game and add a thing to the how to play since some people struggle with things i did not except
when testing with others, everyone finished it first try, after submitting, instantly 2 people did game over early lol
pixie.js for the win
Erm
your game stands out imo, and i'd say its pretty polished too
cheers to caffeine and food delivery drivers
i kinda went no life mode for 3 days straight
what a determination

I wonder why people aren't giving attention to the other games that are below 100 in popularity
I think they are pretty solid games
Vedals game has a card that is(draw 2 cards) the thing is...you can draw it by drwing 2 cards soo...infinite cards for tutel...(creamy colored lines are those cards)

Immortality achieved??
the community finding every single bug (or creating new ones) in vedal's game
which game did alex make?
search for fragmented
thats not a bug...tutel just can have infinite power in his own game as a feature...
this one, amazing art too https://alexejhero.itch.io/fragmented
thx
literally has a version a lot better of our game that we could not upload bc of build taking too long

what are you building? chromuim? lmao
last minute changes/fix on unity
come to the godot side....
...you know you want to...
Check out my game! https://gljames24.itch.io/neurosamas-vocal-synth-pipeline
yes please our cover isn't very clickable
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213213
HELL YEAH JAMMERS WE CROSSED 1K RATINGS
am rating so hard rn
I rated like 13 so far
quite some cool games
If everyone votes it would be 78400
rating 100% of games in 1 week is just a daunting trial
I think we will need this extension regardless of what Vedal does
https://pinkwolfgames.itch.io/memoneuros Here's my game if you're still interested in suggestions!
Bet? Jk
I'm honestly giving it a try but some aren't downloadable unfortunately... Like it just says "no compatible downloads found" in the itch app
Time to play the game again cus recordings were to bugged with chrome

Good luck with that
.
Thanks
thank ya, checking this out too 💪 🔥
?
Just pinpointing where the desktop build is
Thank you
shameless plug
hours late
I really liked your game, there needs to be more 2d shooters!!
thamk
I think I finished the game
checking this out too, already looks cool 👍
they see me rolling
One more to add to the pile if you're still going
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3210632
I feel like Mikaturtle and I are competing to have our gamejam game links posted the most amount of times in this channel lmao
Speaking of which, this sounds like as good of a time as any to add that +1 to my counter
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213257
still working for me
it's pretty slow rn
do not work for me (edit: just slow)

itch sabotaging me
itch a bit slow here but still working
its giving errors here and there but not totally down

you post plug shamelessly to have the highest number of links to your game in this channel
i plug my game to piss off @signal monolith
can I join in
go wild
yo, already reviewed yours, was very cute!

shameless plug alert ⚠️
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213213
if one wants to help with the rating/game percentage, sort by least rated and rate the games that did not get much attention yet
lmao I read through some of the comments on Vedal's game, and I think some of them don't know that it is by him
you should probably go to the first pinned which shows you all games without any ratings at all
well, sorting by least rated, would do the same thing
I tried it and chose a few but they already had 1-2 ratings so it confused me
did you sort "play in browser"?
oh fair forgot about that
teehee
I rated the lowest ones.
I have a feeling they're the way they are exactly because it's vedal's
btw we reach 1k rating
Oh, you mean they made the comments as detailed as possible because of him?
Still, I find it endearing how they seem as if Vedal never actually streamed coding his game.
some lower rated games are quite cool
Ah okay! Thank you!
nowaying
Abandoned Pub is honestly top 5 games from this Jam imo
one funny thing I did in my game was increase player's attack damage if they die enough times to the final boss
that way if someone's really bad and keep dying, they will eventually have an easier time
this was a decision I made based on last year's submission when people said the boss was overly hard xd
tbh that a good idea. I remeber last year boss being hard & I died 3-5 time this time
(skill issue mostly)
normally it's sword=1 and harpoon=6 damage (boss has 100 health)
if you die 5 times, sword=choose(1,2) dmg and harpoon=8 dmg
and if you die 15+ times, sword=2 and harpoon=10 dmg
Is it allowed to change the Details - Description of your game now? I think it is but I just want to double check. Want to add a hint
yes you are, you can change everything except upload a new game or a game fix
not that surprising at all considering it was made by like 30 people
I'm just trying that one rn and it really is
imagine 30 people combining their powers to create a top 5 game jam game, meanwhile all the solo devs are trying their best to leave an impact
I hope my game still stays afloat in the midst of all the other fantastic submissions
I don't think people participate in gamejams to win, especially when there's like no prizes
maybe I can get top 20 again
I, for example, decided to use the time to learn something (odin/raylib) from the scratch and have fun yeah
didn't vedal say something about lavalamp for winner?
yeah me neither, I just look to create a fantastic experience, but I do hope to reach near the top so more people can be introduced to my submission
makes sense
Winner of the game jam gets a free lava lamp coupon. He did not specify about if bigger teams get more free lava lamps or if they need to share the code
because the top rated submissions are more likely to be played by other random people
just pay people to play your game EZ
I thought I'd get top 10 last time, but my "innovation" stat brought me down to 15th, which is why I spent more time on innovative gameplay this time
It was made by how many people
1 lava lamp per submission sounds good to me, and the team can choose who receives it
We also had 9 people at the end. xD
holy team sizes
guys have like full triple AAA game studios out there fr
I thought game jams were normally supposed to be like 2-3 people groups, and maybe solo if they're confident enough
some jams have a team size limit, others dont
more people != better game
(look at least year's submissions
)
We literally barely finish with that many people xD
let's just say i won and be done with it so vedal doesn't have to worry too much about the lava lamps
"barely" as in half of it was done and was buggy. I could have done better alone. xD
???
we should set max team size for next jam, just to make sure the submissions are more even level with each other
didnt think about it, classic vedal
only 1 person from each group can rate games I think....
smaller teams might make better commucation and better games anyway, so it should be considered a good thing
only the one that submitted
mmmmm still dont know if its better to do this or if i should allow anyone who contributed as well
Did you submit, or submit as a team?
Like the account that has the game is the team's account.
i was part of a team, not the the submitter
Can't speak for all of us, but me myself don't care much about placement, I just wanted to make a cool game
I am actually very impressed with what solo-dev's managed to do, the sheer number of games submitted is astounding by itself.
We can all be proud of the way this game-jam turned out, now to play and rate each other's games

The submitter account has to rate.
oh
I think per group is the play, even if it might suck for bigger groups
Last year me and Troobs were in a 13 people team, and the game was.... let's say "sub-optimal"
is the score for each game based on the average score or is it better to get more ratings?
Yes honestly the swarm has so many talented people
i personally don't mind games made by more people, i make games for game jams for the sake of creating something fun instead of placing high on rankings

Don't need to look, still remember
I'm sure you'll enjoy my solo dev game then, I really tried putting heart into it
Big teams get too ambitious...I liked it better this time with a 3man team.
I normally do jams alone, then last year I had a half available artist for the first time. The only issue with this team was that we did not scale for 1 developer, and failed to make anything on day 1.
tldr for unaware poeple? {me}
making a game with someone else was a good experience. but I feel like productivity would go down if i were with more than 2 others
Productivity did go down drastically, yes. xD
Literally this
can confirm
i didnt have time to make a credit screen at the end of game
so i placed the soundtracks credit in the first line of my script
idk if this counts rip
so this.
the most important part of teams is to spend the first hour or two properly communicating your capabilities, sharing your visions, and then coming to a united consensus on what you're making
We did not have that xD
this year we did that
then reduced the scope
then reduced the scope
and got a game I'm happy with
if you start stepping in different angles from the start, it can end up very chaotic in the middle and end
me and the other one in my team almost had a half day time zone difference
Exactly.
same.
i was alone soo i wasted quite the time learning the python api game

xD

which is why solo can feel good sometimes. No communication = just vomit your brain juice all over the screen and make your vision come true the exact way you want it to xd
Guys you have game engines? :Clueless:
last year I did godot. i then did no longer like godot. this year i did unity. liked it more
This year and last year my teams had a system where you can send your rating to the one who submitted, who will then put in the rating. Mabey your team can also try that?
the worse was using .inflate and pygame.react for image rectangle hitbox, i asked AI to teach me and i understood a few stuffs
but the rest i managed to do alone (noticeable considering the amounts of Ifs...
)
i should avoid turning into a yandereDev
why though he got bucks and bitches with his shit tonn of ifs
my code quality was nice at the start. Last day it dramatically become worse
But could easily make use of my old code so it was good to have good quality at first
tbf, our team wasn't really optimised, we had 5 artists, 4 testers, 1 UI Designer, and 2 Programmers (More like 1.5 programmers, as I mostly did UI elements).
Having been in a big team last year, I can say that it is a miracle we managed to get the game to the state it is in now
That being said, I can understand the imbalance. We literally had one of the most talented artists of the community working on the game.
If anything blame Troobs for having too many friends
my code was also organizated, i separated the While loop that runs the game in multiple functions, keys, frames, music handler, movements and one that updates the ghost's rectangle hitbox
so many
UI elements are tooo hard for my brain to understand
I'm a backend dev
i started my game in separate managers and did create base classes for classes and made specific classes inherit from them. day 3 of game jam, i dont know if i coded a function in which manager
Can invite me next game-jam
rip
my game looked sooo bad day 1 and day 2. artist team member carried me so hard
amazing work though
in python you can do that same thing in C?
instead of doing all functions in same main.py create like a functionFrame.py that you import the function to the main.py (that has the loop that runs game) ?

tbh I'm happy with the ui we had so its ok
in faculty a friend did thousands of lines for his game in C
and he separated in multiple scripts
appareantly this is oriented object iirc , node.js use this too
guys I think I'm doing well but I'm not sure
is that uno
balatro clone
need to play, only heard good. always too lazy
how in the heck
which game is this? looks crazy with all those icons
I wasn't saying that your UI is bad, I was just advertising myself
Unhando
sorry
That's literally me 💀 very based, thank you
Nah, it's ok
can you break my game as well?
Any time ^^
what's your game
how many multipliers is that
yes
so many games to rate
Yo, is there like a deadline for when neuro SDK implementation should be done for submissions to have the best odds of it being used on stream? And would it be cool to add other fixes/enhancements to the neuro version that weren't present in the original submission?
I believe it is already unrelated to gamejam and if you already implementing the API past due gamejam's time why not fix other things as well
I'm playing all the least rated games and I can't win a single one of them!
That's what I figured too, no reason to have a buggy experience if it is possible to fix
If we ever do anything then then that is a rewrite xD
is that why they are least rated? most people got skill issue to finish them to rate?
or are they borderline unplayable
Alex said this
#2024-game-jam message
Don't play ours xD I don't know if it can be finished.
whenever :Shruge:
if you do it before the subathon ends vedal might play them now, otherwise he will do it after his 6 month break
6 month?
*6 years
Surely vedals break will be shorter
O yeah, decades.
By the time Vedal streams again we'll all be a remnant of the past 😌
What a dedication to the theme Vedal has
He said he will bring Neuro back 2 weeks after subathon, but he'll be away for longer (not more than 2 months tho (clueless))
It's a mix bag, some of them are good but had a bug that prevented completion, or it was too hard for me (skill issue) or others were incomplete
As long as it can launch I'll play it, I have played a lot of games during all the jams I joined and I have seen things that would scare most.
wow you have a lot of free time
and here I am working this entire week
I know my game is in that list, have you played it? (Stream of Memories)
Last time I checked, it was at the bottom of the list so maybe you haven't
finally i got things to work
games with more than few minute play time and replayability, I kneel
haha that one was cuz everyone testing kept running around the empty room expecting to find something
'
ball is stuck on the ermfish

Blame paccha for finding an experienced dev for us
Not yet, I'm playing games that have 0 or 1 rating
Got it
does it at least get damaged? i cleared that stage
nope
its just lying there
aw
Paccha's fault
ssadge
Oh nevermind, I don't think I'm in the low rated list anymore
Yay
I saw it was very pretty and heard it's very sad, haven't played any games from this jam yet tho
We plan to get together with the team to play and rate the games together later
man that sounds fun, I would do that too but exams
but I'm having a blast playing all of the rn
lots of creativity
lots of funny moments
For now replaying top games from last game-jam, so nostalgic
Tieff's soundtrack for "Neuro's lost and found kingdom" is so fire 🔥
The community cooked
Last jam we had some insane submissions too
My exams start on the 13th
But quite bussy for new years
I love Neuro
Vtuber awards were rigged
I love Neuro!
deranged
It's true, we care about the things we love so we cook as hard as possible for the jam
That too
cant argue with that, seeing all the Sniffa spam
i still think seeing vedal hates us spam the awards was peak swarm tho
that and literally every canvas
we'll 100% win next "best community" award for sure
the swarm only grows stronger
we'll be unstoppable
thats insane
that's actually crazy 🐢
my game doubled in size as well
my game is infinitely larger
my team doubled in size (from solo to duo)
considering last year i didnt enter
my team size stayed mostly the same
121 -> 278 so 2.3 times more submissions
last year it was 12, this year it's 8
i still think its wild how many team submissions there are tho
cuz im assuming you guys arent studios, just community members that pooled together and somehow didnt murder each other while trying to work a group project involving code
I did dev with a composer last year, this year I developed with an artist (who is also a composer)
my game went from 29->75MB so 2.6 times larger size
So my team size stayed the same but also grew at teh same time
we had the foresight to recruit a manager this time around
wild
guys... i have no own dice
Want me to roll for you
yes please
my team went from 8 to 3, I think both experiences were cool.
i need 4 more
ye, i guess both of us doing coding helped, also we reused some bits of generic code from other project
Just rolled a 6 irl
nice, 3 more
still, i cant imagine just how nasty having to coordinate that many people in such a short timeframe is tho
it's hard
the devs don't know what the artists are doing
the artists don't know what the devs are doing
the sound guys are just chilling
yeah
and then in the last day they whip out multiple bgms
i could not imagine that lmfao
^ This is literally why I said that first 1-2 hour communication at the start of game jam is the most important xdd
i used the art to like hide deficiencies in my programming skill
9 not 8
which is like, how, but also it would've been nice to have that there earlier so developing is good
oh yeah, I keep misrembering
day 1 of the game jam, i thought the game i code would be top down, till i saw the first sprites
Having a manager in a big team help
we were on call for like 3 hours after theme was announced
oof
i saw the theme come up on neurosoda
and i was like fuck it im game
immediately got to work
and still there was like miscommunication or things we had to figure out
wheeze
when solo or in small team, you can just come up with shit
we were on a lot of calls
that's wild
having to manage one person (myself) is already hard enough
but in a bigger team you can't do that anymore, have to keep in mind like
what the artists can feasibly do
what the devs can feasibly do
last year i was a solo dev and my team was incompetent
tbf, you need to do that for solo as well
yea, but you know your own capabilities
also I'm sorry I kept asking on dev chat detail about what we had to do
and have full vision of the game
i kicked my own ass when the artist gave me a sprite and animation set that was difficult to work with
no no, that was fine
expected, even
it's just the problems of working in a team
solo dev + making your own art is optimal
I think maybe we should've chosen one person to just have the 'vision'
and direct everything
my team was relatively low on management difficulty cuz the other guys kinda just let me run everything xD and I made sure to keep up with what everyone was doing to catch if something started going off, tho i suppose that cut into my time a bit
I was already kinda doing that but not properly I think
Omg I love Tetris and neuro so neutris was so fun
neuro without the arms/gun game object because instead of animating 2 game objects together i just hid one and put the gun on the body sprite
yeah you where kinda the lead dev
and I mean, I can't lead bc I just lack creative thinking
It is in fact what you should have done. We did this, and had no problems in that regard
I just played two games that have an interesting basic idea but just end after like a minute of playing because they ran out of time... How are we supposed to judge that? I feel the existing rating doesn't really take "very unfinished games" into account.
the only main hiccup was that originally the sound guy wanted to use 8 bit sounds, and i kinda understand where that idea came from, but once the sounds started stacking up it got really grating on the ears, so we had to replace those
yeah, I think I wasn't confident enough to take full responsibility
thats a choice tbf
next year
but he still got all the sounds in by the end that we needed so it didnt really affect much
next year!
you were superb in programming stuff though
game object for the arm/gun hides itself and a gun just appears on the body when rolling
Me was like: i don't want to draw a lot, let me direct 👉👈
man was I grateful that I could just give tasks and you got it done
super reliable Komae
I mean, I'm lacking creativity I need an area when I'm good
(aka am a backend dev)
XD
@winter aurora you liked my game last year right? did you test the game i made this year?
One guy should be the lead visioneer yeah
its pretty interesting seeing all you artists whose work i like just vibing here tho ngl
troobs is here
i would like to see it sir
I forgot, what was your game
(and what is your current game ?)
next time
they can take ideas from others, but they should have the full overview of what should be done, otherwise it can go all over the place
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3211655 thats the game i made
otherwise you might suddenly have assets you'll never use, or down period where nothing gets done
big shoutout to the artist i worked with
troobs is here and just vibing and im not the type to fanboy but im very much a fan of troob's animations
I did not tested it yet but someone on my team did !
it was the slay the spire card game
oh, I played that
o this one, its the tower defence one, cool af

Even with a lead we have some unused stuff. But that's just because we hadn't enough time for implementation
I want to test it but I prioritize testing low rated game
thats fair
i do the same rn
thank you
yeah there will very likely be unused stuff one way or another, especially in a team
O7
oh damn, we also have a slay-the-spire-like game
need to play yours
me waiting for tutel to come and play them games....
I love troob's animations too
I've yet to play your game but I will
neurosoda made a game??
wait what where
i did slay the spire like last year, it wasnt too good. this year i got a tower defense one. lemme look up your game
Yeah it is, I saw their community post about it lmao
I think the name is Vedal's Secret?
A must play before next week
why does the embed keep disappearing
making me extend my game name column smh
swarm animators wise tho i wanna know what degen shit ECaptainPH would make tho
I HAD NO IDEA HOW TO NAME THE GAME, everything sounded bad
my game's at the top :D
I remember Vedal liking playing a tower defense game from last year game jam
It can't keep up with the massive femboy energy emitting from the thumbnail
i am proud of my game's name
no its ok its nothing
td is a fun genre, yea
you can remove tutel's insanity. for your sanity
I remember they tricked vedal into saying it back
yep I wanted to test your game as I liked your previous game year !
as an undertale & omori fan I may be biased bc of the audio
oh why
i saw an undertale game mechanics game this jam
I was wondering what to name it for a while as well, I wanted it to be 2 words, similar to "Finding Neuro" from last year, and I wanted it to include "Evil" and some other evil word to describe Evil's evildoings, and eventually I decided to go with "Evil's Malice"
I could have named it "Evil Evil" (as in Evil is evil) which would have been really funny now that I think about it
we named the game last day
Evil's Evils
same
Evil's Malice is a sick title tbh
i wouldnt even classify it as a game its so bad
theres only the tutorial level which is unfinished and unbeatable
