Alr according to ren this was apparently for server maintenance which I dont really believe

1. The entire server doesnt need to be shut down for maintenance, maybe a few or so specific channels. But theres not much maintenance you need to do when it comes to a discord server

And even with that, all the changes being performed are live and updated to all users immediately

2. There should have been some sort of announcement prior to avoid suspicion, your already on hot coals for the situation your in, 'random' stuff like this only makes it worse

I heard a rumor that they are reworking their verification system, so locking the ability to join the server actually makes sense in this case

which btw to get back to ren, false allegations aren't actually even a prominent enough rising issue to use as a genuine point for misandry like the fuckin Tower of Thin Mints larper seemed to be tryna say. unfortunately it does do wonders in social impact especially on the internet, it sucks and it should be called out when it happens like here, but this is again individual crimes not a structural issue. in fact, when speaking structurally, legally, false allegations are usually very unsuccessful as the burden of proof does not lie on the accused. it is so strict that even genuine victims can sometimes not get their abusers convicted at least to the extent of what is deserved, and this is part of also why so many victims don't come forward which there's other related reasons for this as well such as in cases of extreme power dynamics. it's so easy for people to look at cases like the ren and zeal one and try to claim some deeper issue. the issue at hand is we need to be more careful about forming our opinions on serious allegations when they are handled messily like this, not that "it's becoming more common that women try to take down men"
