looking at it now, i guess the small shapes now that the mediums are perfect in my eyes
alot of the small ones are awful, but like you said its what you notice first is the medium shapes
and those are perfetto
those wierd little blue and tan noded will probably end up more lightbulb shapes
kind of reminiscent of hydroids base helm
like columns of eyes
as for that wierd gem thing between the pried parts of the box i hate it but i feel like something has to go there and i cant think of what
sause its gotta be more pried at the bottom
Here's a helemt with random medium shape sticking out for no reason
to create a mouth
In this case medium shape forces it's own sillhouette and looks weird
in that its just a blob?
Her's a helmet where medium hsapes are worked into large shapes
They do not force their shape, and instead they continuie the sillhouette
This is more pleasing to look at because you don't have this smooth helmet and then suddenly WTF piece jutting out
My point is - your warrior knot, try to work it into the design better. Not just glue it on
I hope my explanaiton makes sense
Also it's good idea to keep your lines flowing in a direction
Here, for example, the general movement of the flow is going upwards, and no lines suddenly intersect, or go perpendicular to each other
If lines goes perpendicular to another, it needs to be somehow worked in, to look more in place, and not randomly. Like
I think I'm rambling due to temperature
Why did I even go into lines
Yeah I'm gonna blame temperature
vulbjorn spamming cool sketches like far*s 😄
I am ill and have the
What is it called
basically, I'm blaming my spamming on high temperature
I'd call it fever
last time I had temperature I spent 16hours in bed
oh you that kind of fever
well. . too bad I didnt have that since 2019 xd
now i need to decide if I should go draw some concepts for fun or grind destiny before new war and witcher series come out lol
good point, start with small things like armor pieces or operator accessories. . those are good for learning how to approach wf design
You can start with helmet as well. . but those are usually more on the eyes and require more feedback to be acceptable
I suppose I could take that flower piece and adapt it to be like shoulder pieces or a chest piece
I would generally speaking recommend before going into doing tennogen, doing some unrelated models and just getting a hold of software
Like you know, make some cool looking cuboids and weird pipes
yep i was doing concept arts for 2 years before going to tennogen even though tennogen was thing that got me into 3D
DE was sculpting valkyr deluxe at stream and it was nice insight how you create models and that was the pushing point
So like im in tge process of draw8ng an operator suit, though i dont have the ability to sculpt it anywhere
@celest nest now that ive gotten some sleep looking at the thing about small shapes supporting large shapes and even the line thing i completely understand
like the hairs on a kitty cat
yeah when the time comes that doesnt sound hard to do with this particular helmet
so did you say theres levels of wigglyness?
so the parts of the tentacles near the face arent flying heckin everywhere but once your 60 percent or so down things start getting really wiggly
Cloth elements can have different stiffness yes
but what of jiggly fleshy bits?
jiggly fleshy bits also can have cloth physics
okay cool
cloth physics is just a term, like ragdoll
id want it to seem like it has weight
so at thicker parts and closer to the root its less wiggly
and can form those large shapes like you said
I think I only have one helmet that has wild cloth physics, the Hydroid helmet
Which I did with Crackle
oh you made one?
I helped Crackle make it
whats it called
its so pretty
Yes, this one
yesss, thats my current favorite
Design is Crackle's. I just helped a little bit, namely with tendrils
But you can look at it and see how it can be rigged
It's stiff up top and wiggly at bottom
yes
Yeah sure @fickle spruce
i want him as a second adviser
@fickle spruce @fickle spruce Wake up, bald orange.
as someone who has a style closer to mine
Actually, he's no longer bald
He went on a quest to Tibet and meditated four months on top of the tallest mountain
wait really?
Yes. Simultaneously he would model his helmet.
lol
i need him here because i only used hydroids main helmet, even on hydroid prime for so many years, and in those years i only played hydroid
thats the first helmet i was willing to swap to
I'm sure he'll answer
i love hydroid, but pretty much just cause of his visuals
and he can turn into pee
i hate his other moves
gotta subsume summin
He is unfortunately extremely boring to play
yes
thats why im so excited after someone said i could make a melee build using him
where the moves just support the melee
and i just prefer the melee in general
whippin sticks around
actually thats pretty much all i did but i didnt use any moves at all cause id forget i have them
i just had really good melee mods and smoke everything
but to build him for it
ooh yeah i hope its possible
they said something about how heavy slams summon tentacles
I mean, every frame can be melee frame considering how absurdly OP melee is in Warframe
yes
That slam is pretty gimmicky
It's a chance per slam, like 30% or something. Can't make it into a build
i just be hydroid to look cute while i smack things
okay i found one that makes alot of sense
i say i dont like all of his moves but my current build pretty much disables my 1 and 2 completely
and it seems like those are the ones for decent melee with him
man
narrow minded which i unfortunately dont have makes it so you can have corrosive water balls fall from the sky directly where you are
where your fighting
Have you been around for time when abilities were part of mods and you could unequip them when making specialized build
It was a thing and it was really weird
And even before that you'd unlock abilities via actual skill tree that would add little glowy lights to your weapons, and you couldn't run them all.
they should make it so you can have more than one subsumed ability on your bar
Hey! Glad you like the helmet buddy 🙂 that was like…. My blood sweat and tears along with vulb’s help to create that.
I had it cut really short vulb and my webcam is from 1999 or something lol
You're using Nintendo Eyecon
crackle can you be advisor number 2?
cause our styles are closer
than mine are to vulbjorn
I also can make roundey shapes
but you dont
Do I?
but that probably has to do with how shiddy my eyes are
maybe not small shapes
things are very narrow and precise
oh yeah
stylistically in my case though while i actually do like it, it looks very front heavy so id but an even heavier banana type shape on the back to even it out
or like vaguely banana shaped
you know what i mean, like the back of grendels base helm?
Banana
it slicks back in one way or another to counterbalance
i made a slight revision of many
idk if this is better or worse than what i had
Try to make your lines thinner
I mean, your lines are so thicc that I cannot see them properly
I dunno, do I post a sketch or not
No reason to, probabluy
yeah
cause i know what you mean but my eyes work differently
maybe the shading makes it confusing
the colors are too close shading wise
particularly the black parts of the box
Yeah if I may recommend soemthing
Do not do suuuuuper contrast colors for sketch. Don't make your lines suuuuper black and do not make your other colors super white
I usually do very light grey for base and like somewhat darker medium grey for lines
Try do more drawings and also try todo it on the neck
Let me send you teh body from different angles
Here's some images, try to design the helmet which sits on top of the body
Thinner
And differentiate between linear and base more
And also avoid shading while in sketch phase
oh that wasnt what i was fixing
What did you update
upper face
the one before this i peaked the bent metal at the forehead
and on this i made the eyebrows go longer inward
to make it look less wierd with the changes
ok this is the metal box around which the tentacles protrude
is this sitting on the neck right?
Like you can go below this, but if you have soenthing like an overhanging helmet
im working on it
Sure, but I’m sorry I am suffering with a migraine today so that’s why I’ve not been around. Feel free to DM me, but Vulb has great advice and taught me a lot - he is more experienced artist than me just FYI 🙂
ok this is without the wigglies
and this is with them
i could be wrong but i think that classifies as numerous medium objects forming one large one
and it has quite a silhouette
It sure has a silhouette
in the end i think these two could become one
It's also absolutely gigantic to a point of making Maus feel inadequate
lol
this is warframe
i dont think it technically looks out of place
its just huge and im not sure thats bad unless it causes technical problems
Do you want me to be truthful or mild
truthful
Bad design
It's a box with tendrils glued on, that is the size of his upper torso plus some
yeah your right i might have made it too bug
big. in the end i really want it to look like the original picture
but that pictures very stylized
If you made it as is, it would be ignored by de team, and if you managed to catch their attention, you'd be asked to scale it down by 300%
First of all I'd recommend painting it in light Grey. Not borderline black
Secondly, those images are for you to help you model. If you understand them, that's fine, but I'm not sure if I'm looking at front view or 3/4
its very cartoonized, more to give a concept art as in the spirit of it
you know like the king from wow in the loading screens instead of the actual model
Also, again, your lines are super thick. They hide the forms instead of enhancing them
the paintings
Btw
Do you use mouse or pen tablet to draw
mouse
Right, that would explain the lines
how much r those
You kiiiinda want a pen tablet
is there a quick to hit undo button?
I don't remember personally I bought my Wacom bamboo for I think 200$ like 9 years ago?
Ctrl z is undo
but on a pen tablet
I mean you can bind it
oh interesting
I didn't, because I'm left handed and my keyboard is on right, so i draw with left and have easy to reach buttons on right
If you want to seriously get into drawing or sculpting, you want a tablet 100%. Not even a choice, mouse is not even an option here
But they can be a bit pricey, so if you can't get Wacom, get huion
It's slightly worse build, but it has essentially same specs same quirks and same features but at lower price
Too large
How do u blend a model from nothing tho
in general? you start with sphere or some primitive shape
It's sorta just a process of bringing out form from a basic shape and refining it further and further till it's finished
I do it with a mouse, and I'm still really trash, and would prefer something else, but yeah, it is possible
A bit less intuitive especially without a pressure input
sculpting with mouse is legit. . I have done that for 4 years just now switched to pen after some tests
One of my favourite models I've made was done with a mouse
yeah, you can work around the pressure input, but it is not ideal
you mostly lack the pressure is organic sculpts like skin wrinkles etc. .. those are tricky to do without pressure
if you do hard surface you literaly dont need it
yeah, I think for anything other than infested, you can do just as good of a job
but it might take a little longer, is all
All the stuff in #tennogen-showcase-your-content was done with a mouse as I'm still just fleshing out a lot of the shape before detailing
God that reminds me I need to finish that Head I was doing for Atlas
all of this was mouse lmao https://i.imgur.com/IoiQdMN.jpeg
I wonder where I get a base from
well, you are also amazing! Lubox
but after trying it out you are missing out if you use mouse
I love the dragons
so definitely get pen
I'm pretty new, so I'm just showing like a beginner level work with mouse
yeah, I agree to get a pen
I know I would sculpt better
and dont switch too late like me otherwise you will be literaly bit worse at things
Oh god that's me with 3d Cad
i still have trouble with accuracy and usage of pen
I'm still using 123D design for Cad stuff and that thing is downright unstable
base mesh of warframes? from their tennogen help website in #tennogen-resources
Yes you will get used to it a bit later thats why its not important to finish every piece because you are not going to be succesful with ti anyways
trashfiring 10 things can teach a lot about blocking out shapes and maybe you will pick up basics of silhoutte etc. .
If finishing projects was a priority I've already failed lmao
i liked a quote i heard somewhere metaphorically: Dont be scared to kill your babies
if its not working just try new one. . and that happens often
Perfect lmao
I think this was the last sculpt thing I "completed" I don't think I finished texturing it tho
not bad, did you use help of a human mesh or did u sculpt it from scratch
I don't remember might have had a Makehuman base it might not have.
I do often use those but generally it's bodies I need help proportioning
it has nice beksinski/giger vibe
I'm actually unaware of most who they are, Giger did a lot of work for Aliens iirc?
Kinda uncultured lol
HERESY 🤣
Yes Giger did lot of alien, because he designed them. . if someone say its Giger its mostly in terms of design - Alien, Engineer (prometheus) etc . .
Beksinski is similar artist but he was drawing his nightmares into reality
Beksinski had opposite approach of giger, instead of merging tech with organics, he made organics mostly bones and skeletons into artificial looking structures/items
oh alot of people are here
i need feedback from different sorts
i made this to kind of show how i want the helm i want to make to appear on hydroid
do you guys think its a good concept?
the darker tenacles from behind are a warriors knot
its hard to read maybe drawing on physical paper would be better than mouse
read what
also too much tentacle shapes lead to too much geometry and clipping
read the design
oh i see crap
yeah its a bit sylized
this was a more precise one but as you can see the head is huge
but if you want a read of the back to front design, this is it
shape wise
i dont know anything about that geometry thing you said about tentacles, but ultimately i want them to be more rigid at the ends toward the base of the head and gradually get wigglier
so it will hold a shape
but by problems with geometry, what do you specifically mean @eternal galleon ?
will it make the game lag or something?
there is moxium amount of triangles your mesh can have
oh i see
and tentacles especially that need to move are going to have a lot of them
oh that makes sense
also your tentacles can be seen as repeative shapes and its not good to add the too much
someone probably would have made something like this already they might have had geometry issues
like obviously people have made pirate beards that are just a couple of tentacles but i feel like i would have seen a good blackbeard one like this
by now
also starting with hydroid is not the greatest idea due specificaly his tentacles and odd design
Yeah a lot of this side of art isn't really my primary interest so I don't have a lot of knowledge of others in this sorta space. Now if you wanna know stuff about Gundam designs I can recognise multiple designer styles based on linearts or physical sculpt lol
I didnot have knowledge as well . .but more you are interested in art more you will start seeing patterns and terms
yeah i dont think this is a good career path for me
at most i might make graphics for a cartoony game
I wouldn't expect it to be a career path alone? more of a hobby
Getting designs in is never a guarantee
starting art with career mindset is first problem
i mean i kind of do already
its not but even one can set you up your career xD
Oh yeah
thats true
I chased that in CSGO to the point of burnout lol
just make one thats just good enough for people to buy so i hsve income
It really did build my skills a lot more
if you get something into warframe through tennogen you are pretty much industry ready to be hired by some indie studio
oh rad
maybe bigger studio depends
what ya mean
its the infested stuff that fascinates me when it comes down to it but it sounds like thats the high level bs
the wiggly bits
Mind you 90% of this was hot garbage but towards the end I got the hang of it fairly well. Just wish I had that drive to bother uploading to the CS workshop these days where i can pump out something really cool and toss it due to nitpicks
no robotic and hard surface is high level bs
because you need to know atleast triple the amount of tools in software
compared to wigglies?
yeah
drawing tentalces in 3D is like second easiest thing next to moving mesh lol
not great, im an idea guy i wish i could just pay people to do this kind of stuff for me
It's all about learning
Try doing some 3d work
Blender is free and the base assets can be found in #tennogen-resources
i might make multiple hydroid helms right?
make a far simpler one and do this one later on
Sure
Yeah honestly
hes my fav imagine like theres 7
It's all about building your skills
all of them need wiggly beards of some kind
One thing to learn is that sometimes your going to be the best person for bringing your designs into the world
At least that's my opinion
Also a big thing you can do
it feels good definitely. . but with age it fades like all joys
i start stressin hard
Is iterative design, try making it and then try making it but better
yeah
God that's too much of a mood
I am always mood get used to it. . it also doesnt help its 3am
but nailing that design and seeing it being popular is amazing definitely
just saying burnout is inevitable in pretty much every field
Yep, It's hard to separate my drive from the reactions stuff can get. it can get really bad at times cause sometimes that just drives me to put everything into one project till I don't want to touch it
This is one thing I mostly kept to myself and I'm glad I did (Left is the first "complete version", Right is the current version which is like 26 but I call it 7)
I mean its cool
But yeah iteration is one hell of a drug
I was never fan of iterating
Yeah kinda the same when it comes to sculpt work but anything else I really like refining my old ideas into a more mature and well done variation
I get to refine a lot with tennogen
Always hate it at first but when its done i understand why it had to be done
Yeah
Sometimes fresh pair of eyes is best thing you can get
But make sure you are asking artists in common field
Yep and often I find it's hard to find good ones
CSGO workshop was basically popular weapon, red, edgy theme and a skull = popular af even if it's hot garbage
Worst thing u can do is ask uneducated person if something looks good or not
Learned that way too hard with a series of skins called "death stare"
Now if too many uneducated people saying that.. then you need to consider it
I got people bashing on my skins just because it didnt look like his dream wet fantasy sword he dreamt of
Pffft
Absolutely irrelevant ratings
I always make term of "juice"
Juice i do from all of comment and feedback and how it feels/tastes- thats reality
😅
I have same experience
My ratings are not particulary strong on workshop
But its cool because sales are different thing
Which leads me to thing that workshop is full of elitists, kids, people who dont understand how workshop works
And mainly people who dont understand what Warframe item should look like
Or just lacks participation by normal users due to it not really being that prevalent ingame
Rust has workshop item rating integrated into the home menu so you can idly say yes or no to skins easily in the game menus
Wf workshop used to get 10x traffic
And that gave some interesting stats imo but it does feel a bit inflated
Before steam killed it with new ui
You see this on rust it means nothing
That's the funny thing about Rust
They seem to pick favourites a bit
One thing that bugged me at least was there used to be a rule that you had to use the default icon that was generated by the game, but most of the accepted items use custom renders
For tennogen u need atleast one shot of each side in normal light, ingame res and tint breakdown aka clown
I got into bad habbit of underexposing for rim lights
Makes it hard to review
Yep, I really like that tennogen has a really straightforward checklist for each type of item
I think you got the spirit to make it in
Just need to spend some time honing skills
- your previous experience with csgo can add some points
To be honest I think I have the skills already it's just a matter of putting in the effort.
I respect your courage but
Never assume that..
I am bad it too.and do it for 3 years now
You are never expert at art
Yep, there's a difference in assuming expertise and knowing I have the skills to make something of value
I thought i knew how to do Warframey things after first item 😂
But truth is somewhere else
And learning how to do wf item is just a start
Because then you also need to know how much you canpush it but stay within rules
Because if its too generic it will fail even if it gets accepted
Some tg items you just dont see in weeks
Ye i understand your point
Anyways gl i think i need to sleep its 4am 😅
Goodnight and thanks for the advice
No problem, thanks
I am wildly uneducated
And have terrible taste
If I could get trashgoblins into the game, you can do too
I wish more full face covering masks would exist for operators, ones like this for example.
Imagine this + the Bat Wing Ephemera
I may or may not be working on a Gauss concept and Lavos simultaneously. Will reveal rough sketches soon.
did i successfully make a warframe style helmet?
btw the tail is a stylized way to show that its gonna have a big loz link hat-like tail behind it
the back of the helm is just a big wiggly
this is the front view otherwise
so the large shapes would be approximately a hard cylinder, a hard rectangle and a big wiggly
and the medium shapes would be the 7-9 beard and moustache tentacles
the rectangle might end up being more of an ovuloid
whats the word for a 3f elipse
3d
@shell talon what is this? I can't read Russian
Ah. 100% a scam
Well we should get a moderator here. We might be aware of scam but others might not.
Sorry that took so long, just got my computer a few minutes ago. 😄
It's ok! At least it's sorted out now and everyone is safe from the scam
Imma delete my messages now, they now make no sense
I do believe 3D ellipse would be called an "egg"
And yes, this helmet is much more warframey now
Hello
He woke me up too
Scambot just wanted friends
Of course, the botnet is feeling lonely with just 200 machines in the system
Could you link your portfolio btw?
Me?
Can I get the Chroma Prime model anywhere?
Anyone know if you can still use the tennogen skins outside of steam
There is the problem
Alr thx
okay so my power went out and i read an old book about fish species then i started sketching hydroid helmet ideas and i made one that straight up looks like its already in the game. I thought i had to have stolen it but if i did it would be on my hydroid rn as my favorite helmet. Thats either a very very good sign or im going to be breaking copyright laws from some wierd thing i saw in passing but i barely remember. I dont want to show it in case what i see in my head isnt the same as what you see when you see my drawring, so im going to search all through the alien, predator and cthulu mythos to make sure im not going to jail and if not i'll start watching tutorials @celest nest
I would say your chances of going to jail are relatively small.
Do it, I believe in you believing in me beliveving in your ability to believe in yourself.
And remember - thinner lines, and keep sketch greyscale, and not as dark.
Anyone bought any of the tennogen skins?
Just bought a valkyr skin with my steam wallet but its not in my ingame skins section
Also my warframe is installed from the warframe website itself, is that the reason?
Yes, most likely. Please reinstall via steam and link your steam economy to your warframe account
How do I link?
Reinstall through steam, log in to game. Press Escape -> Options -> Gameplay -> Scroll to the Bottom for Steam Link
Alr tysm
the deluxe skins that were shown for Baruuk, Wisp, Volt, Hildryn and Valkyr are tennogen skins that will come later or just deluxes?
TennoGen
Not deluxe
They never reveal this many deluxe skins at once unless it's TennoCon or something
What's the difference between tennogen and deluxes?
So, those were deluxes?
Oh ye, sorry, I forgot xd
But all six are tennogen skins? I thought that wisp skin was a deluxe
TennoGen means Tenno generated content and mean all skins that are made by the community. TennoGen creators can only change the textures on the body meshes of skins while they have complete freedom on the helmet part. They also have to follow certain rules and can't just make anything.
ic
Deluxe skins are made by DE (sometimes the concept art is made by someone in the community who DE then works with) and follow no real rules. They can look like anything DE wants, change body and helmet meshes and whatnot.
They usually look vastly different than the base frame which makes it easy to distinguish Deluxe skins from TennoGen
Hm
On PC it's easier to distinguish Deluxe from TennoGen content because here you have to pay real money for TG instead of plat and that draws a very clear line between the two
Man, I gotten lazy. I need to finish retopology and finalize three or four works
Deluxe Skins are different due to the fact you can change the shape of the body of the frame as well as everything else Tennogen you have to keep the body the same
I already explained that
Oh my bad man
are there ways to reduce poly count after the fact?
i have no idea if i have too high a subdivision
like idk if i should go all out on what i want to do and go back or what
Yes, Most game objects use Normal maps to simulate higher detail. When you make a model start with a high resolution version and then use a decimate or remesh tool to make a version with the intended polycount. After creating UV maps for the lower resolution version you can bake the details of the original into the low poly with a combination of Normal maps and AO or Depth mappings
where do i download hydroid's mesh?
Yes, you first make high poly and then turn it low poly via process of retopology
Hydroid sits here
ok
wow, such thankful
i want to make a hood shaped helmet thats solid, but it would clip if it went all the way down to the bottom
is it possible to make a jiggly cloth part for the lower half or something
some sort of collar type thing or something
its made outa chitin
or crustatian/mollusc shell
pic of my current model once its reminiscent enough of the end product
unless frame already has collar as part of it's design, no, I'm afraid not.
DE would dismiss it under "changes sillhouette too much" criticism
DANG
Aka why my Ivara didn't pass
If you look at her, you can see that the lower part of the sea creature she's wearing sits on her shoulders.
Aka - lower jaw is attached to body and adds like, whole shoulder-pack on top
is there a way to save a specific model you make for later use
like in another project
Syandanas are pretty specific too. They not only hook to back - they only hook to one specific bone in the upper portion of the back
Hm?
What do you mean, like... to sell to other company or something?
no
or to like 3D print
i have a ton of random models in my scene im scrapping for the current project but might be awesome for something else
you mean extract a single model to use for later?
yes
Yeah totally. As long as you don't, you know, sell them to someone, you're free to use them for anything
Your scene is just that, scene. I have tooooons of random garbage in my scenes usually
i accidentally made something aesome
Some of them are to diffuse lighting on renders and are invisible, some are just t posed models you cannot see, etc.
i know
And it can be a good idea to collect things you make for future use too
That's called kitbashing. You make up a kit of parts and then... bash them together.
is it already a file somewhere?
?
Oh, you can for example export them separately
I assume you just save them as separate files
(or all together)
yeah
Or if your scene is too cluttered, you can export your main work, and them make a new scene around that
let me guess
You're doing that Blender tutorial and ytou got to sculpting part.
yeah
Alright, good.
then i got amazed and intrigued and stopped and starting working
I'd suggest finishing one lesson first, tho
You have only fixed amount of focus per day, so it's better to spend it wisely.
i know im gonna have to go back later
And I'm going back to my cheesy soup
Hi!, I need help, I submitted an ticket but no one answered in 8h
My email got hacked and I cant play because of the 2FA, what can I do?
We can't answer for sure, as it's a tennogen channel, but probably wait a bit more. This is something that support needs to resolve, you can't influence it on your side.
Oh
In the mean time, you should gather all the proof that account is yours (password, email, what fraames you own, etc.)
My IP is static, and its easy to track, so i think there won't be any problems
We can't help with issues like that in the Discord. #support-and-bugs is the only way to get help. Hopefully they can respond to you soon!
Oh Okay, thanks 😄 ❤️
what program are you using? Blender?
when i wrote it out i realized what it was
So you resolved it
yeah
it was a thing the guru talked about but i didnt realized it applied to multiple objects
so can wigglies also produce the emmisive?
Emissive is a material, and wiggles if physics setup
So yea you can slap glow on something that wiggles
you probably hit something. If you hit shift, I think, or ctrl, you move slowly.
or you might've enabled snapping, and it tries to snap to something that is beynd your scope.
oh yeah got it
Or you might've enabled grid snapping, and set grid to too wide, which will result in it jump-snapping
shift tabed and im good
i messed up stuff last night by editing in the dark with no backlight
could you make a ball of emiisive light in there?
is that possible?
im still thinking of a name
its supposed to be kind of like a nautilus
that low hanging back part is not gonna be accepted
basically anything that could clip with armour and Syandanas too much isn't gonna work
conceptually it's nice
likely not
maybe just glowy orb?
it won't be able to illuminate anything surrounding it but technically yes
light sources are pretty much a no-go
do emmissives currently illuminate
only emissive textures
thats what i meant
You prooooobably wanna shrink his head by about 200%
no
ergh
i keep doing that. in every game i make helmets for i keep making the hats too big
It's not bad.
Back, however, is overwhelming. It breaks the composition with shapes and size. Back is gigantic for no reason
yeah rallen said that i think
i think instead of the tail i might have it slightly circle back under
the flanges i mean
so the last flange will sit at 90 degrees instead of 106?
105?
i dont know math
i cant visualize measurements i mean
huh explains my giant helmets
I'd say gently curve it inwards
But you can also work in an open-back helmet as well
Like a shell sitting on top of it.
yes ive been trying to do thosse kinds of segmentations
Now, one thing you might wanna know is that this type of repeating design is atypical for infested, if you're going for infested.
I.e you're going to have to stylize it.
So it's just a helmet you're doing
i wanna make it look more chitiny but i havent gotten to texturing or materials at all yet
ill have to get there next before i continue
Is anyone tell me why they don't want to add Yatus skins
whats a yatus
Yeah don't worry about texturing yet. However, do come up with a tint breakup.
Tennogen artist
I.e. you want to figure out where you're going to put your materials.
I mean he has some stuff in
i heard there was an awesome rhino skin that didnt get accepted cause it was too western or something
was that him?
yeah
im just gonna keep machinegunning hydroid helmets till i hit something
cause hes my best friend
my hydroid
Anyway, about tints.
You should figure out while you're working where you gonna put different materials.
Not when you're going to texture it.
I.e. you should design around materials, for example, don't put metal in areas, that will bend
Probably, but you can work stuff in so it works. Like with cracks and splits
Or you know, in your case overlapping plates
should this build be a tennogen item 🥶
No, it should be a Prime Deluxe. It's too drippy for us mere mortals to make something like this not working for DE
who stole my dognut
i wonder if the mod thinks its real
his looked gross
you can tell he doesnt eat donuts
Wel he's also rapid fire teaching you
So the point is not to produce donut, but to teach you blender, while donut is teh vessel of wisdom here.
Donut is the vehicle of informatiion. A medium of knoweldge
Possibly a religion
lol
Praise be to Donut
@edgy whale good luck on your tennogen journey! I think your idea is pretty cool there. I love the longer beard…. But it may interfere with some chest armor a bit.
Also, the tendrils are scary close to the shape of mine, which is totally fine with me! I’m actually honored that you like my helmet so much / it inspires you. Just saying be careful making them “too” similar or they might ask you to change them up a bit or something.
I would do maybe some more curly squigglies in the back so it doesn’t hang so low and clip Into all of the syandanas…. My back tendril on my hydroid helmet is about half that length and you almost can’t see it if you are wearing anything back there heheh
I like the layered shell look though from the side view esp. from the front he looks kinda like a mushroom with dreadlock beard 🙂
try to get more dynamic with the shapes so that you can see a little bit of that layering from the front somehow maybe? Just my 2c! Ultimately do what you want!
I hope this helps some though!
Also yes.. the head mesh should kind of fit the cup of the neck…. Although, yours is so big that I doubt there would be any clipping…. But it causes issues with the mesh overlaps the neck this much in some cases.
You did a good job with your cosmetics @fickle spruce 😄
Thank you kindly! -- Still trying to improve!
When do you guys think crossplay will come out
I think you could do some really cool sentient looking stuff
AH CRAP
@fickle spruce your right. the beard would mess with even the chestpiece i like to wear. crap, it was the best part. I assume this is why you went with the moustache
2 sorry, I saw those seams and thought you already made low poly
so idk i messed with some stuff i didnt understand
It's not that important where players cannot see it.
particularly the preset hydroid bump maps
i didnt know what was happening and ill need help with that
His normal maps?
ye
You gonna need to flip the Y channel in Blender.
thats not enough knowledge we can figure that out soon
Do you know about node editor table in Blender?
Mhm
then i got to that mathematical geometry node stuff and i realized this isnt important rn
i think its less how does it work but how does warframe do it
Here's my setup for Wisp. It's pretty simple, but you're interested in the lower stack
You need to introduce the curve node between image and normal plug and invert the Y there
(Y = G)
This should, in theory, fix your normals.
Also, set them to tangent space, not world
Well, you need to bake it.
wait hold up
vulbjorn your good at eyeballing thingsa
look at my latest model for the beard
by what percent do i need to shrink it
tbh
Beard is fine. Hat is giant tho
The main problem of the hat is that it's too connected to hte body. It makes him look like an old man
lol that was the point exactly
hes a sea wizard
i didnt realize that was what i was doing subconciously
I also am not a fan of two flaps going upwards in the back
Well, you'll need to solidify the shape, and detail it better to fit the universe more.
De-lumpify it a bit, and polish it well, as it's a tenno piece. Figure out where materials for tint 1, 2, 3 and paccent go. Figure out the lighting. Then, start retopology, and make a low poly, which you then need to UV unwrap, optimize the UV, and then bake a high poly onto low poly
Then you can make textures
(I'd get Substance Painter for that )
i think alot of the parts that are different colors are going to be bump based
so is there a way i can draw on a single model
before i make the bumps
hows this tint mask thing work
It's... a bit too long to ewxplain
The easiest way for you to do it, is to get Substance Painter
is that a program or an addon
It's a program
Adobe Substance 3D Painter is the reference texturing app for 3D professionals and enthusiasts. From AAA Game Developers to Indies, from Feature Animation to Visual Effects studios, the industry uses Painter to bring their creations to life thanks to its unparalleled speed, flexibility and visual quality. You will get free updates on Steam up to ...
$149.99
There is also Quixel Mixer, but it doesn't have good support for what you're trying to do yet. It's in alpha. Or beta. I don't remember
thats alot of dough
It is, but if you're serious about it, it's gonna be worth t.
Depends on how serious you are.
im serious as soon as i get one through and am making coin
Wait till Christmass. It wil probably go on sale
i mean i could give you a cut on this first one if you do that stuff
and then ill have income to get it myself
I would rather just mentor than directly assist
You CAN do tintmaps in Blender, tho.
wheres 2021
so it sounds like this stuff is possible with free stuff its just harder
so its an investment once i have the dough
to exponentialize my speed of creation
but yeah the helmets supposed to give the appearance of a wizard hood
Yeah, just saying, I'm not 100% sure hwo to do via Blender, so I won't be able to help here much
thats why irs so big
yeah
It's not infested, those two hooks look awkward
dynamicize the shape
You will need to somehow work t hem in better
Maybe by making one of those shapes smaller.
And maybe by adding like 4 more plates that gradually decrease in size
oh yeah that last one seems right
yeah i want to keep the appearance of a hood though
so i gotta do this carefully af
if im gonna shrink it
You can shrink it and extend it upwards a bit
yeah
But if you extended the hood up a bit, added techno-organic details underneath ,and shrunk it sideways, it would look interesting
May I do a little sketch? to explain better?
yes
it does look very mushroomy
ooh
i want to have the front look as close to what it is as possible, but only silhouette wise
lemme find a reference photo
RIght now your hood looks like this
ok
think this but the hood covers the eyes
but its also a nautilus not a periwinkle or whatever
so while the point is cool it not for this
but my main point is if you look at the lower half
how its really wide
What I suggest is something more akin to this
Yes, something pointier, and soemthing that shows more of a face
hes not supposed to have a face
Ok, so he covers entire helmet with a hood that is one giant slab.
Why would someone buy it then
theyre buying the silhouette really but its still not perfect
when it comes to the normals things will get more complex though
its a slab rn but i think it may have layers like a lobster or something
mhm
ive come to a realization
it only needs to be wide at the opening
to have the effect i want
I mean yeah, to let tendrils through
Just saying, covering everything with a hood, unless very well stylized, can result in a suuuuper simple helmet.
Or could result in really good looking helmet
im stylizin rn
while i disagree with alot of the things you say it doesnt mean im not learning anything
your bringing to my attention cats that need to be skinned and im skinning them differently
Slab Interestization Initiative
i may change the proportions drastically
this is just the hood platew
that ive edited
im probably going to widen the bottom of the opening
cause i really do want that loose hood look
maybe a different plate will try to recreate that effect and crackles idea of showing plating at the front as well could come into it
another shell curving in underneath
this is only one possibility
i actually realized i didnt save the main models repositioning so it actually is a bit higher
the helmet
that said even my earlier picture of my helmet is wrong
ok what i need to do is super obvious now
do do the last idea i said
@celest nest whats the most amount of time you ever spent working on a helmet?
About 6 months
My first helmet
If you can get it to acceptable state faster than me, you're officially much better than me
lol
ok how many hours a day tho
cause i assume you needed an actual job at that point
@celest nest where shoulder armour?
I remember we spoke briefly about it in an alliance discord back when shoulder armour tennogens were announced
You worked whole time on it or you mean time from start to accepted
You could add veins going down the tentacles that slightly extrude the add a effect to them that make them glow under the energy colour slot.
Similar to the ephemera demon wings.
I'm working on it. I just got ill, and then lazy. I'll finish it for next round
Time from start to being accepted. I didn't work on every hour for six months, I took breaks too
Actually I was in university so I didn't really work
But I think I was working on model maybe a few hours every day? Sometimes two, sometimes 12
it was inconsistent when I was learning
Time since start to acceptance is bit bad display.. i started in february and it was accepted somewhere in august i think
But total work time was maybe two months up to max 4h daily
Its better to make rough guess in hours than saying something took months.. in my case some items took years then 😂
Back then I think an item could take me 60-100hours
Now its mostly around 40-60
Its quite complicated because half of the time you have zbrush opened you are getting distracted and so on
For example texturing phase takes me roughly two days while if i really closed discord dms and browser I would have done it in 5hours
But if we talk about "if i start tennogen item now when it could be possibly added?" , That can range from 3months to 2 years
Yeah I dunno how much time I spent in raw hours
Now I know how I much time I need for complete work, but it won't help much
i just do better with a deadline
Ok how about 2 months
cause the intangibility of the quality is starting to drive me nuts.
I can show my first ever helmet that I discarded some time when I was making my first helmet
The prototype I mean
i was thinking earlier damn this is so much easier than voxel art im getting so much cool stuff accomplished way faster and then
i realized its 1000x easier to know when your done with a certain step
Yeah
with voxels
My first time working I had basically zero help and noone to ask about it.
And was probing any source I could find
so wtf do i do
Well, right now you're on high poly creation step
So right now you're doing large shapes, then you're detailing them
As long as Lilith is accepted next wave, I'll be happy
When you're 100% satisfied with those plates and tendrils you're doing, go in, remesh them, increase resolution, and start adding good details
I need to both rework, and rename Lilith
Goob, your work right now is kinda like work of a sculptor.
Dude, this janny bot.
what artist
