@slim atlas I think when trying to learn software it's always good to look up videos on YouTube like "Photoshop for beginners" or "Introduction to Photoshop" just to get a basic idea of the tools and UI layout. From there it's just playing around with simple designs or doing challenges like we do with the DCCs to get comfortable with everything.

In terms of possible jobs I would research which industry you might want to go into, and research all the possible design type jobs that exist within that industry. Once you know what type of job you're going for that will make it more clear what skillset you'll need to develop and what software you'll need to learn.

I wanted to pursue concept art for games when I first started and I was 21 at the time. It's never too late, it's just deciding where you ultimately want to end up and setting goals for where you want to be then doing what it takes to get there. Depend on your goals it could take 3, 5, 10+ years but that's why researching what you want is important.

Never ever use a touchpad. It's a nightmare in general and terrible to work with on graphical work.

alright so, you can load up alot of free models in blender, then render them and load them up into photoshop

you are gunna need to do a pipeline unless you want to work your A off

load model into blender>render model to png>load background into PS>load model

then you gotta edit everything

How do you flip a whole layer in PS
Like ik it's Edit > Transform > Flip horizontally / vertically
But that only flips the object in that layer, and ignores the empty space
Normally i would select all with Ctrl A and then flip
But that only works on rasterized layers

So i want to flip the whole canvas, but only affect that shape layer, instead of flipping the black area

Like in this case flip the black shape to the other side of the canvas, without affecting the rest of the layers

create a new layer where you fill the whole canvas. select this layer and your object layer and make it a smart object. flip it. go into smart object and delete unneeded layer

@worn turret - this is out of scope of your question so I'm putting it here instead. But just mentioning that when using the pen tool, you can use less anchor points than you have. Will result in a overall smoother shape! Learnt from experience lmao - I used to use waaaay too many anchor points.

Functionally its really good (to a first timer). Had a couple driver quirks, but its really smooth now. I'm not fluid enough yet to evaluate the v2 tilt. Trying to get all my lower third graphics setup for a livestream tomorrow. I'll use it like a graphics tablet after tomorrow.

One could shoot picture or find an image of said texture. Drop it in a layer, add a mask. Click on that mask and invert it so it's thumbnail appears black (hiding all the content). Then use a brush (Set to white) on the layer mask to reveal the texture. Adjust the layer mode as desired (I suggest: Multiplay, Overlay, Hard or Soft light.)

For this one though, I'm just trying to keep it simple. The layer masking wouldn't be random enough for the wee bits that I'm wanting to apply the texture. whether you export as jpeg, png, or as another image-based format, i'm pretty certain the file will almost always be compressed under some method. if you mean "compressed" to where the elements in your image look pixelated or ghosted around the edges, then there's probably an alternative problem going on within your document that's causing the issue

would you guys recommend any printer capable not only of home office use (double-sided printing, scanning (preferably with a scanning feeder)) but also of printing decent quality photos? I feel like my current printer is about to kick the bucket and am looking for an upgrade. Let's say $300 tops

I was thinking about one of Canon's pixma G series but opinions I find are very mixed, including costs of used ink cleaning being half the price of the printer itself

Honestly, I am kinda afraid of buying printers. They are not like processors or monitors where you get exactly what it says on the paper. Printers are more... alive... They can sense your haste and fear and then they block the paper or finish the ink
