Firstly, this 3D effect is going to be easier with Illustrator. Then once you have that set up, you can create an offset outline around the entire thing. While you might be able to do this with Photoshop, its going to be infinitely easier with Illustrator. Particularly, if you're trying to create that 3D effect.

You'll want to trace the shape of the visor using the Pen Tool. Make it a vector object. Then you can try to map an image onto it to use as a reflection.

Alternatively, you could try Generative Fill to see if it can render something useful.

First off, that thing in the background in the sample seems like a one-color vector graphic. The other thing you posted is like 3D object with light and shadow. Converting it to white and turning down the opacity is not going to give the same result.

screenshots don't mean anything here. I don't know the size of your export, size of your mockup or your canvas size and I don't know if this image's destination is web or print. your 'low resolution' problem could be caused by your Ps canvas size being set not the way you want

You won't need the channel panel at first. Leave them closed and open the layers panel instead. This is "more important" and always shows you which layer you are currently working in.

If the layer mask masks too much, simply duplicate the layer (with layer mask). This will make the partially transparent areas more visible.

I seem to frequently experience an uncharacteristc to PS "clunkyness" in the select and mask page frequently. Adobe has even a free section for stock imagery

Even with paying, those images are generally under the "editorial" label, meaning that you cannot use them for everything. If you just want the cars, you can try looking for 3D models, you'll probably get more choice

the main mask removed the background non-destructively, and the second mask further isolates it to only the text on top when I change the color.

If I tried to just use the second mask to isolate the text. I would also change the background when I change the color

I've got this green grunge image I'm working with, I'd like to reverse the colors so the dark green spots are the background color and vice versa. The invert tool just makes it purple.

invert will set up color that's opposite on color wheel from what i remember that's why it's purple

i would probably just mark lighter green and just use hue/sat

and then invert selection

and do same with darker green

Keep in mind, I'm working off this low quality screen shot. But I might use Adjustment Layers. Particularly, desaturating the image and then using a Gradient Map to map the colors you want. Then you can really dial it in.

Honestly, I probably wouldn't do this. I'd fill the background with the desired color and then just use some sort of "splatter brush" to paint in the little light green splats but.... yeah.

If your gonna get into photoshop that's something worth watching a good tutorial on as it's a big deal And I'm not the best explainter. But it will isolate things. And isolate what' effects what. For a hypothetical example I have a color picture and want everything black and white except the eyes. I add black and white adjustment layer making picture black and white, and then make a "layer mask" to isolate what that layer adjustment effects (what ends up black and white however I want). I would select the mask and make everything white except the eyes because black and white is how masks dictate what's effected. Areas in white will be effected, areas in black ont be effected. That's why the eyes will be black in the layer mask.

Using black and white adjustment layer in this scenario probably made it more confusing than it coulda been.

Yes, because that means your artwork isn't entirely smooth. Unsharp mask creates an exagerated contrast between areas of tone difference (I am simplifying here)

It happens because you have those areas

You might need to mask that unsharp mask only for it to affect the edges of that shape (best wy would be to turn your layer into a smart object, apply the filter and then mask paint over the filter mask)

OK, you can make them by using vetor shapes (circle) and applying a thick stroke to it, and make a second concentric one with another stroke layer
Check all the parametres in my screenshot, including the top menu for particular settings you can change
Thickness of stroke, colour of stroke etc

You need to paint in white only the edges of each stroke, not the whole thing, because of course it will show the middle of it effected by the filter.

You won't acheive that with unsharp mask, unless you smooth out that shape so it doesn't contain any variation in the first place. Increasing the contrast (making lines in your case) is what the unsharp mask does

Go to help>hand-ons tutorials
A new pop up window appears and in there you can choose levels in the drop down window (choose beginner)
or a particular skill you want to learn in the search box

Even Photoshop for iPad is a different experience than the desktop.

All the tools are on the desktop because the full version requires compute resources that phones and tablets do not have.

The problem with finger-painting is your fingertip is too fat. Particularly when compared to a stylus. Its fun to imagine you can be effective painting with your fingers but the reality of it doesn't really line up with the fantasy. heh

Which is why everyone with an iPad that uses it for art purchases the iPencil.

Because a common problem is that people set the wrong unit type like "centimeters" when they really wanted pixels. 2000 centimeters is like 65 feet wide and will cause problems. Like Scratch Disk errors.

You will have to make some careful selections to grab the areas that need to be modified. Then maybe use a Gradient Map to shift the colors. If you're not familiar with making intricate selections, working with Adjustment Layers and Layer Masks, I'd suggest doing some tutorials and getting familiar with that first.

Also, I have no idea what the intent even is for this edit so its difficult to suggest things.

I would start by learning the basics... tools, techniques. Particularly, how to work with Adjustment Layers and using Layer Masks to specifically target those adjustments.

the glow is easy, but the gradient part specifically isn't

because I can add an outer glow as a gradient instead of a solid color but it still uses the solid color at the start of the gradient

I think you can get the outline you want by applying multiple strokes in the fx, bottom right on PS screen and manipulate the settings you want

If you don't want it transparent just put a solid color layer underneath the other ones. And I'm pretty sure that even if it is transparent but you save it as a .jpg instead of .png it will have a white background

If you add a Layer Mask to the layer (and activate the mask), now Select and Mask is available...

It's not a huge ask for an Adobe themepark. One where we can individually customize our own rollercoarsters and such. I would make a roller coaster that has loops as you acend the main hill. And control T my favorite ride the already giant top that spins so you stick to the walls but make it bigger so thousands of people can be stuck on the wall at the same time. And everything would be dark everywhere with the only light emmiting with a deep water fish bioluminescent glow.
