Oooh thanks for sharing this tip- I need to try this out on my subject as well.
#challenge 3 - SMOKE
@runic gust Welcome to the Ps DCC group. Great to have you here. This the perfect space for you to enhance your Ps skill level and learn awesome design techniques. If you have any questions, give a shout. Good effort on your Speed Blur. The fades and blurs look good. I might bring up the opacity on the left side images a bit to make it more visible and consistent with the right side. I might also make the top layer of the side blurs a bit less blurry to give them more definition.
@onyx field Im not sure I understand what your problem was with the Speed Blur. It seems whatever the problem is, you got a good result. The one tweak I'd make is the hand on the left edge looks out of place. I'd fade that out more. Good work.
Hi, I am new to all of this and I am sorry I am a couple of days late but I started my first challenge ever yesterday. It is very exciting to see how others are working through the challenges. I don't see an option to upload a file. How can I post my completed image? Thank you!
Here my version
@young karma Welcome to the Ps DCC chat. We're happy you joined our group. If you have any questions, give a shout. We're here to help. Your Speed Blur is very well done. The fades and blurs both look good on 3 images. I might like to see the right side face be a little less blurry so it looks more like the left one. I look forward to seeing more of your posts.
Mkay, a bit of a warmer take on yesterdays challenge. Busy making new catalogs of my old images to dig through as possible substitutions for the provided images. 🙂 Thanks again, Sam!! Great explanations!
@silent portal Welcome to the Ps DCC chat. Great to have you join in on the fun. If you need any help, give a shout, we're here to help. Lovely crisp clean cover design. The colors look great together. The layer styles look good. The little text box adds a splash of additional color and pop. Nice effort. Very well done Speed Blur. All 3 images have good fade and blur. The images are consistent. Good work by you!!
@hollow yarrow The Speed Blur V2 is awesome. I love the merged techniques of Speed Blur and Pixel Stretching. The fades on the blur are so even and consistent. The color palette is awesome. Great effort by you. (Why am I not surprised???)
@distant marlin What device are you posting from? PC, Mac, Phone, Web?
@tropic knoll Is that a perfect post for Ground Hog's Day or what???? I could see the groundhog saying to itself "Shadow? No Shadow? What should I tell these crazy humans??" The design is awesome. One little tweak I might make is to make the legs more visible (if theyre even the original image). Great job.
Challenge #3 - Smoking Text Effects - I used the two first methods - gave the text orange color - duplicated the smudge layer - put the bottom smudge layer on color dodge and masked out the parts of the upper smudge layer that covered the letters to reveal the glowing parts. I also added a red-transparent gradient overlay on the upper text-layer but I now realised that I of course should have added the gradient directly to the text instead of a plain orange color. This is really experimenting for me 😊
@distant marlin Welcome to the group. We're happy you joined us. To post an image either 1) clock and drag your image to the center of the chat screen or 2) click the + ico on the left of the chat bar and then click Upload file. make sure your file is less than 8MB and thats its the jpeg or ong or tiff, not the PSD file.
Awesome!
Thanks Ted for your kind comment. I appreciate!

@wet karma Yeah, @bleak fossil is pretty good at teaching us "cool stuff", isnt he. Now that youve joined the Ps DCC chat, you'll see that all of the leaders are great at teaching us cool stuff. You did a good job with your Speed Blur. The left and right images are consistent and have good fade/blur. Well done. I look forward to seeing your future posts.
@west viper sorry my tips are all over the place. When using Selective Color adjustment layer make sure to only adjust the White, Gray, and Black tones and select on absolute instead of relative. i wouldn't adjust the blacks too much as it can make the shadows funky. This is for when trying to composite images specifically.
@tawny badge Lovely Cover Design. It definitely has the Nickelodeon vibe that Sam demonstrated. The colors look great. The layer styles are well done. I might make one tweak. I'd move the date text . I realize you were trying to fit it into that blob space. But IMHO it looks a bit forced. I'd try it in the upper right corner to balance off the text in the lower left corner. But its your design, you decide.
Thank you!

@wary swan Really powerful Lighting Effect design. The colors palette is awesome and gives a very dystopic vibe to the image. I'd love to see the asset image to see how you impacted it.
@proper umbra There was a problem with the link yesterday, but I believe @teal badge corrected it. Did you still have problems viewing the stream?
later in the day, I was able to view and re-view. Thank you!

@wet skiff Welcome to the Ps DCC chat. Great to have you join in on the fun. If you need any help, give a shout. We're here to help. What an adorable face to fade and blur!!!! You did a fine job with the fades/blurs. Keeping the central image clear also looks good. Nice work. I look forward to seeing your future posts.
Challenge Day1
Little late start but got my challenge #1 done. hope the others will soon follow.

my take on challenge 3
Wow your smoky flower is simply awesome!🤩 Great concept and excution on the point! Your day1 and 2 look great too but Day 3 is really impressive! Well done!
Thanks @dapper hill

Maybe late but it's a great start Andri. Never too late... Motion blur turned out great and looks realistic. Love the background added and the foreground lens blur effect adds a nice touch! 👍
Wow! I'm jealous ...Love the curved trajectory of blurry repetions...That's the real Matrix speed blur effect. Impressive result! 👍
@wary swan On your Lighting Effect V2, I think the skin tones are a bit too pink for coloration of the BG image. You might want to use more of the green/orange tones from the BG.
@thorn gulch You really nailed the Speed Blur!! The blurs/fades are spot on. You were consistent all around the central image. The BG looks great. The color palette of the whole design is very cohesive. Good job by you!!
@digital pike I remember this picture from an earlier exercise. You've used it before, havent you?? Good job on the Lighting Effect. Your picture has a lot more blue tone than pink. I think you could add some more blue to your skin tones to give your design a real cohesive look.
@topaz vine Nice job with the lighting Effect. Youve added some good color tones to the model. You kept it consistent all the way down the neck. Good for you. I think the tones added to the left of his jacket could probably be more pink than blue to match the lighting on the face. The blue on the right side looks good throughout.
@lean harbor Your Speed Blur is a really fun interpretation. You did a great job selling the realism with the water spray. Your fades/blurs look great. The central image has the right amount of clarity. Really well done by you.
@bleak fossil Cool digital painting live stream earlier. Digital painting is something I'd like to get into, very cool.
@deep mango Very well done Speed Blur. Awesome concept. I love the BG and the image. They look great together. Your fades/blurs are consistent and all layers work well together. I especially like how clear the face and front layer are. Good work.
@dusky swallow Nice work on the cover design. Super color palette, very cohesive. Crisp clean straight forward design. Good work on the text, layer styles, highlights. Your Lighting Effect is well done. Im not sure if you added that pink tone to the sky. It looks like you did. Its well done. Good job on adding the pink tone to the left side of the model, especially as it works its way down his clothes.
@proper sky Solid work on the Speed Blur. The three images all look good. I think the right one could use a few more fade layers.
@raven ginkgo Welcome to the Ps DCC chat. Happy to have you join the party. Sam already commented on your Speed Blur post. Im not sure what this image is about. Is it for the DCC series?
@coarse portal Following on Sam's comment, I think V2 works for me. But I will say, the break on the model's face from blue to skin tone is a bit too stark. A more gradual fade would probably be more realistic.
@young karma Id like to add Sam's comment by saying that since your red on the face is so strong and covers the model's whole face, I would think some of that red would look consistent if you ran it down the shirt as well.
@jade imp Nice effort on your Lighting Effects. I think you can use a more gradual fade of the colors on the face. The colors have too sharp an edge. Sam answered your question about the soft brush.
@quiet fern Thank you for posting the asset photo for your Lighting Effects. I love to see where a design starts. You did a cool job with the overall tinting. Perhaps the blue on the right side of the model can have a lower opacity. Its a bit too overpowering, especially in the area of the ear.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @quiet fern
@halcyon current Thank you for the asset photos on your Lighting Effects. You did a terrific job carrying over the mood of the BG lighting onto your model. The blending across her face looks very natural. The intensity levels work well. Really solid job by you!!!
@winter root Nice work on both of your Speed Blur designs. The fades/blurs both work very nicely. They are proportional and steady. I like how the text is just barely visible in your cartoon image. And the blur on the ligh source looks real cool.
@livid bough Good work with the Lighting Effects. Leaving both the model and the BG in a natural lighted state is interesting. I might darken the edges of the clothes where you have them lighted, to emphasize the darker city BG from the bright light coming on the model's face.
@somber harness Boy, you really took on a challenge with your Speed Blur. Terrific concept. Its a good effort by you. I think there are areas that work well in this design. But getting all the areas to work together is really tough. DM me if you'd like to go over some of them. Super effort by you.
@modest talon Very good job with the Lighting Effects design. Your compositing of the pictures looks great. The blended lighting on the face fits the different lighting on the left and right of the BG image. Good work.
@quiet fern Really eye catching cover design. The gradient fill looks solid. The font is interesting. The layer styles you added to the text all work. And the BG image adds a good sense of motion. Good work all around.
@tall maple Good work in compositing the Lighting Effect design, and in altering the tint of the model's coloration. I might lower the saturation just a bit to make it darker, as it looks like theres a bit too much pink in the color.
I didnt want to point that out. It would be better to blur out the numbers.
@crystal saffron You did a nice job toning down the lighting on the right side of the model in your Lighting Effect design. Also in picking up the yellow building trim lighting reflecting off the left side of the model. Nice job.
@quiet ridge I think the first of your 2 Lighting Effect designs looks more realistic. The tones are richer and bolder. The second one is a bit too dramatic and washed out for my taste.
probably should've mentioned where the photo came from
Thanks, @eternal mica!

Challange 1, wish the wings didnt look as messy but nice
challange 2, tried adding my own little light source for fun
@eternal mica 😀
The left face on top with a little more motion blur.
Challenge 3. Smoking Text Effects. Really useful skills learnt, especially the "screen" mode for the text and smoke layers, and the gradient overlay which I applied on the smoke below the word.
Here's my entry for Day 3 🙂
this is my day 1 challenge
@dull fox Try going to the layer adjustment panel for your light layer and turning off the Transparency Shapes Layer and changing the blend mode to linear dodge (add) Then adjust the fill so it's not so bright. If it doesn't work with what you currently have try making it a gradient layer that goes from that pinkish color to transparent at a idk what is that a 45 degree angle? Then apply the setting i suggested earlier.
Just thinking it'll make that light coming in blend a little better.
k thx
I literally just took this and did what Sam did. Mostly. I added a section of blur in the bottom corner, figuring that by the time the bike was that high it would just be a solid blur on the corner. Adjusting the blur for each was different and took a couple times but once I liked what i was seeing I just copied some layers to make it easier. I really enjoyed this one...
I think you have a point with the black. I'm very black and red and purple color styled creature of habit. Its funny, I started the whole thing with a rainbow.... lmao Thanks for the awesome feedback as always Ted!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
I think everyone has "color tendencies". As I've tried to grow my Ps skills, Ive tried to lean more on Adobe for my colors. I search the color themes for some interesting palettes, or I pick a central color and then play with the color wheel. Then I try to stick within the 5 color theme Adobe creates. Black and white are always candidates to be added, but I rarely use them for dominating colors. I still have my tendencies, but (I hope) it gives me a more cohesive look.
That’s really good advice. I’m going to use color.Adobe color picker like I did before. Maybe train away from black. I’m really used to darker things so this would be a chance to expand. Awesome idea!

I´ll have to try that again, because I´m not as patient as Sam 🤔 - #pschallenge 3.
challenge 3, second version
Great tweak!!!
@last mica Very well done Lighting Effect design. The overall look of the model fits in well with tone you created for the BG. I might suggest a bit of a softer edge to the pink tint on the face to blend more gradually to the natural skin tone. And maybe some pink tone on the edges of the clothes on the left side. Good. job by you.
@wet karma Nice work on your Lighting Effect. The model and BG blend together nicely. I think the tint you added to the right side of the face blends more gradually and realistically to natural skin tone than the left side pink. You might want to play with the opacity of your brush strokes on that side. Maybe add some pink to the left side of the clothes?
Sure @eternal mica Thanks for the comments
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
@gentle pasture Awesome piece for the Lighting Effect. What does the faded text spell? The left side of the model looks great. Im not sure the pink you added on the right side works as well. Im not seeing a light source in the image that generates that. Maybe use one of the darker browns for a more realistic effect? How about adding some of your tint from the face to the edges of the clothing?
@onyx field Interesting Lighting Effect design. The BG image youre using is quite washed out so its tough to work with. But you made a good effort. Theres a white halo around parts of the model, especially on the left side. Its a bit distracting. The subtle shadow you added to the left side of the face looks good.
@plain sable These are great! I really like the direction you went with each design. I especially love the colors and lighting in the Day 2 challenge with the eagle. The lighting on each side has a really interesting yet natural look. I really like the way the pink blur contrasts against the green background in the first challenge too. Nicely done!
@winter root Haha, perfect, a very ominous message indeed. The softness of the text and smudging is working really well. Is your smudge layer on top of your smoke images? It might help get rid of the black "border" around the smudges if the smudge layer is under the stock images. Nice work!
@rigid wolf Very well done Lighting Effect. The model blends easily into the BG. the tints you added to each side of the face blend nicely into the natural skin tone. in the middle. The tint you added to the clothing adds to the realism. Well done.
@compact pecan Very cool direction with this challenge! The smoke effects coming out of the smokestacks of the K is a clever idea and look good. The only thing that appears off to me is the text seems a bit washed out, like the dark tones could be increased to give it a bit more contrast. Looks good 👍
@quick compass This came out really well! The background colors look great, and the lighting on each side of the portrait have a convincing look to them. Great work.
@toxic patio Very nice, great to see you experimenting with these techniques. Manually painting your own smoke definitely comes with a learning curve, but can be a fun method. The pop of great makes for a bold look which is really neat. I like the different versions you created, the second on is my favorite. The main thing with the first one is I think you could break up the hard seam in the middle of the smoke for a more natural look. Well done!
Thanks for your feedback, @bleak fossil
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @bleak fossil
@lethal prism This came out great! Really convincing sense of movement, especially with how the edges of the main figure sort of blend into the blurred figures on the side. Very nicely done.
@tawny badge Ooh, interesting use of this speed effect! It fits in really nicely with the rest of the image and has a cool cinematic look to it. Very nice work.
@topaz vine rk#4674 Ooh, I love the color contrast in this Day 3 design! Really cool idea. The wispiness of this text looks great and definitely feels convincing. Great job with this!
@open mica First, welcome to our Ps DCC chat. Great to have you join us. If you have any questions, give a shout. Second, WOW, your Lighting Effect design is lovely. Great concept, great execution. It would be great to see the assets you used in creating this. The reflected glow you added to the wing and the face look very realistic. If I had to nit pick one tiny thing, I'd say the hand/arm should have a bit more reflected purple glow from the starburst at the end of the finger. Buts thats a tiny point. Great work by you.
@young karma Very nice! I like the dramatic look of the red tint on the cat against the black background. Very cool image.
@distant marlin Really nice job with the directional motion blurs in this image! I feel like perhaps the center figure could use a little less opacity to give it a more faded look but that's really just a matter of personal preference. Nice job with repeated figures!
@clever whale Super cool! I love the direction you took this with the fiery effect. The text stands out really nicely against the darker red of the background, and smoke image works convincingly as fire with the colors you chose. Great job with the smudging!
@gilded flame Really good cover design. The font looks great. The layer styles you added are cohesive and interesting. The color palette is strong. the "explosion" looks super. One tweak I'd make is to center the middle line of text. Good work by you.
@lost helm Really nice job with the masking and blur effect for the Day 1 challenge! The background is a nice touch and works well with this photo, it also adds some nice color contrast. Really nice job with this method!
@hearty gale All the repeated figures really help push that sort of Matrix looking effect which is really neat. Nice job with the blur effects. I feel like you could fade some of the further back images on the left side for more of a ghosted look but it all depends on what you're going for. Really nice work!
@halcyon current I really like the combination of the fire and smoke in this Day 3 challenge. It also creates a really nice color contrast which works well to give this a clear read. The effect is looking good!
@tall maple Loving this Day 3 challenge design! The colored smoke adds a whole different look and feel and you did an excellent job with the wispy ends of the letters to really integrate it into the background smoke. Well done!
@slate dust Really nice job with the coloration in this design! The portrait fits in really nicely with the colorful background and I like the bold contrast in the colors. Great style to this one!
@copper moss Interesting spin on the Lighting Effect. Im curious to see where you take this. For this image, I think you can add to the effect by having more shadows behind the figures. what do you think?
@gentle pasture Great job with the motorcycle version. Add some cast shadow and really make the image pop!!
Hi Ted, I think you refer to the 1st post for the 2nd challenge spelling Gezmanic" is my alter ego. Yes, I agree there are problems with the light source's colour.
@deep mango Super effort on the Lighting Effect design. The blending of the tone of the to images is spot on. Its beautiful how the model's hair on the right side, away from the light source, allowed you to create the glowing skin effect on the left. Your skin tinting is blended in beautifully. Awesome effort by you.
GEZMANIC!!!!! I should know that, right??? 😜 😜 😜
Thanks, Sam! I kept going back and forth with the smokestacks being light or dark. I’m sure I’ll be re-doing this one anyway - my original idea of the smokestacks didn’t turn out anything like I imagined so then I just practiced some techniques to experiment with effects.

@clever whale Welcome to the Ps DCC chat. Great that youve decided to join our group. If you need help with anything, just give a shout. Very cool Speed Blur design. The fades/blurs look good. I might make two suggestions. try lowering the opacity of the images in stages as you move away from the core image. and second, this may be tough, the skateboarder seems to be moving horizontally. Can a skateboard do that? Perhaps have the fades move down the street.
@gilded flame Your Lighting Effect looks terrific. The blending of the image tints is flawless. The lighting you added to the jet is spot on. It looks very much like part of the city image. Very well done!!
@gentle pasture The album cover looks awesome. It could be a design from one of our exercises in the last series with VDV Distressed & Vintage. Good job by you.
@hollow yarrow I finally got to yesterday's pre-stream post. You beat the clock by 4 mins. Thats cutting it close, even for you!! You are amazing. Thank you so much for posting the process GIF. It adds so much to appreciating this fabulous design. The color palette is super. Your blending of the tints on the model's face is so realistic, its scary. I love the way you added the tints all along the edge of the model, amplifying the defined highlight/shadow areas. Super effort. 💯
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @hollow yarrow
Enemies of the Heir, BEWARE. I enjoyed so much this Challenge #3. The text is in a light light light yellow and I added a candelight lookup effect. I couldn't have this slight effect with a gradient map, but I had so much fun with the gradient maps when I tried to apply some bluish or redish ones.
@winter root Well done Lighting Effect design. The model blends in nicely with the city BG. The green tint you added to the face and clothes looks very realistic. There seems to be a bit of green in the ears that seems a bit off. Did you add a pink tint also? If you did, it may be a bit too strong. Perhaps lower the opacity just a tad.
Amazing effect @lost helm!
@silent portal Your Lighting Effects is very well done. The model blends into the BG image beautifully. The tones for both look great. The tones you added to the face are very well done, and blend together seamlessly. Very realistic. The tones you added to the clothes help sell the design. Good work all around.
@copper moss HAHA, I love your smoke image!! Subtle. But effective. Good job.
@somber harness Very well done Lighting Effect design. The strong light source on each side make for a good blend in the middle. The skin tones look realistic. One tiny tweak, what do you think about adding more blue tint to the hair on the right side?
@runic gust Good effort with the Lighting Effect design. The skin tones you applied blend nicely and look realistic. My one suggestion would be to use a less pink tone on the left side. The BG image doesnt really give off that bright tone. Perhaps one of the softer blues? The right side looks spot on.
@clever whale Good work on the Lighting Effect design. The model blends in nicely with tint you added to the BG image. You blended the tints in the face seamlessly. On a side note, I'd move the model up in the design to eliminate the shape sticking out of the right side of his head, and also that little bubble of a building over his left shoulder.
Thanks @vagrant rapids

@digital pike Your Smoking Text is solid. The way you stretched the text works. The heavy smoke on the bottom, lightening in intensity as it moves up the design, works well. Good job.
@wary swan Cool layer style on the text in you Smoke Text design. The smoke you added has good layering and depth, creating a very realistic vibe. Good job.
Thanks @bleak fossil these were fun to do...
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @bleak fossil
@dusky wave Interesting interpretation of the Smoking Text design. The red brush strokes add to the interest in the text. The eyes add a real eerie vibe. The smoke you added looks very wispy and ephemeral.
Thanks Ted. I will correct this right away

That winter storm we had yesterday took out my power so I am a little behind. Took a quick run at yesterdays challenge
@dusky swallow Good work with the Smoking Text. The faded letter tops fade nicely into the wispy smoke. Good work.
Learnt a lot yesterday using the smudge tool and layer modes for my advantage but i feel like i am missing a point and i don't know what it is yet
@young karma Very well done Smoking Text design. I love the addition of the BG image. The blurred text is well done. (What does the text signify?) I might add a bit more wispy smoke to the top 1/3 of the design, to balance the heavy smoke on the bottom.
@livid bough Good work on the Smoking Text design. The masking of the tops of the letters looks really good. The smoke you added blends together well.
@queen aspen Thank you for the variations on the Lighting Effect design. The top one looks awesome. The model blends in beautifully with the BG image. The tones you added to the skin blend well, look realistic. I would make one small tweak. I would add some of the pink tone to the clothes on the left side to bring in more of that effect. The second image is also well done. Id tweak it by turning the white on the T Shirt to a tint that matches the rest of the design.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @queen aspen
I don’t think I added a pink tint no.
@modest talon Cool interpretation of the Smoking Text challenge. The brown tint definitely adds to the smoky vibe. The wavy text also works. Good work by you.
@tall maple Good work on the Smoking text. The blurred text looks good. I might suggest adding more smoke to the bottom of the design to balance it out.
@slate dust Very well done Lighting Effect design. The model definitely blends in with the tints you added to the BG. The tints you added to the model blend seamlessly. I like the added tints on the shoulders of the clothes. One tiny tweak. I'd add those tints to the neck and to each side of the collar.

Day 3
Day 4 Challenge: Alien Skin!
I ran a bit short on time on stream, but to finish it up I set the texture layer on the head to Multiply, added a Multiply and Color Dodge layer to slightly tweak the lighting on the head texture to better match the original lighting on the head (like we did on the Day 2 challenge) and lowered the opacity of the texture layer a bit. I also made a final Level adjustment layer to fine tune the brightness and contrast.
Thank you @bleak fossil for your feedback!

@halcyon current Experimenting is good!!! Your Smoking text design looks solid. Interesting concept to highlight the text this way. The smoke looks good. I think blurring the text just a little less would enhance the image. What do you think?
Thank you @eternal mica I think I got the idea from the lighting challenge where Sam talked about Color Burn blend mode. I'll look to it but you're probably right. I might have thought something like that but didn't follow that thought yesterday.

@distant marlin Are registered in the Ps chat? I couldnt find your name on the list. Super job on the Speed Blur exercise, and very creative concept. The deign looks great. Thank you for posting the asset image. I would make one tweak. The multiple core blur images that Sam described in his stream, was to imitate the actions of a boxer. Having the multiple core images in your fashion design is a bit disorienting. I would go with just one core image.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @distant marlin
Thanks for these, learning a lot I didn't know
@quick compass I wanted to echo Sam's comment. You did a really good job on your Lighting Effect challenge. The model fits the BG tone beautifully. The tone you added to the face is seamless and looks very natural. The tone you added to the clothes really sells the design. Good job by you.
@plain sable Your triple headed dump of images is terrific. The idea of applying the "speed" blur to a flower is incredibly imaginative. The result it great. The bald eagle looks super. Awesome toning all around. Is the flower in #3 the same as the flower in #1? Such awesome creativity here as well. Very special work by you, again!!
Yikes, I didn't expect to be that good on the first go. I just tried to keep it natural. Thanks for your feedback @eternal mica

Thanks @eternal mica and yes the flower in the third design is the same as the first... These challenges are pushing me to come up with something different...

I dont want to disappoint you!!! Would you rather I say the image was meh??? 😜 🤣 😜 🤣
@fiery trench Welcome to the Ps DCC chat. Great to have you join the party. We hope you'll stick around for the whole series. If you need help with anything, just give a shout. We're here to help. Your Smoking Text design is very well done. The blurring of the letters looks great, and blends nicely into the hazy smoke. (The hazy smoke looks so good, it hid your spelling error!!!) Just personal preference, but I might have liked to see more smoke above the text, since theres so much smoke below the text. But that could just be me.
@autumn pasture Good work on the Lighting Effect challenge. I think the model blends in well to the BG. The tint you added to the model looks good and blends nicely into the skin tone. I might have taken the dark tone on the model even further to mimic the tone of the BG image. Theres really not a lot of light coming off the BG. Your image. You decide.
i like this idea, il try to brush some in when i get home back to my tablet
my first go at challenge 3. Almost all of the techniques were new to me.
@bleak fossil I love that alien image. It looks like the alien is doing a Galactic Pepto Bismol commercial!!!🤣 🤣
My result for today's challenge Alien Skin. A lot of the techniques I really need to work on. Even I admit that this is a very rough design.
Photoshop Daily Creative Challenge - Portrait Lighting Effects
Day 5 Challenge 4
#challenge - Smoking Text Effect (plus Fire) 🥰
Challenge 4 - Alien Skin - This was a lot of fun and I am now getting used to using layer masks and refining the quick selection tool. Applying the skin to the head was an impressive effect as well as the blend effect between the head and blue skin. Really enjoyable challenge. Have a great weekend all.
Thanks @eternal mica

Challenge 4: I did a female alien with longer big fingers. I did it roughly quickly. But the idea how to draw is much more clear, using color layer selecting the shape + mask. Is the idea that I can use any adjustment layers and use the selection + mask and manipulate with layer style, blend modes, brushes and so on. Here was only color balance. That was a very rewarding session. Sam is professional.

Challenge 3: Feb 3, 2022 - Smoking Text Effect
Both look great. Your creativity with the one that is colored looks really neat and the white specs falling make it look like fire burning letters. Nice job
I ran out of time, so this still needs a little work but here is the first attempt. I'm planning to experiment more a little later.
Challenge #4 alien skin.
yeah i have made big mistakes in the last two challenges and tried to cover them up ! will go over the lessons again 🙂
Challenge Day 1 Speed Blur 🚗 💨
LOL D grade movie monster !
@onyx field Haha, perfect use for this challenge. I like the concept. It might be worth trying out some different blending modes/opacity levels to try and get a little more of a sense of lighting for the original image , but it kind of looks like you added some light on the left and shadow on the right which definitely helps. Nice job 👍
@junior ibex Loving it, this turned out great. The blurred background work really well, and the way you kept the car in focus but still have the blurred version behind it gives it a really nice sense of movement while keeping a strong focal point. Very nice job!
@lost helm Loving the textures! Hah. My one suggestion might be to add a little more contrast, and perhaps even some color variation around the face. The eyes seem a bit washed out value wise, and it might help the realism if the white of the eyes, the iris, and even the nose/lips area didn't all have the same coloration. Nice job with the liquify tool!
@topaz vine That's great! There's definitely a lot of techniques to play with in this challenge for sure, between the liquify tool, coloration, and textures. You definitely got a cool alien look in this design! I like what you did with the eyes. The background is a great touch too, nice work!
@dull lava Really loving the softness of this design! The softness along with the wispy shapes you added in really give it a smoky look and blend it nicely into the background. Looks good!
@runic gust This is looking good, I really like the softness of the text and the way you pulled out the corners with the smudge tool! The main thing I notice is it appears as though you might have your smudged layer on top of your smoke layer which could be causing that black outline around the text. You could also probably set your smudged layer to the Screen blending mode, either that or putting it below the background smoke layers would probably get rid of the black outline. Nice work!
@queen aspen Excellent job masking the smoke layers in a way that they look like they're coming right off of the text, that works really well. I love the pop of color you got with the background too, it creates a really nice contrast. Both look great, but I really like the wispy effect of the smoke coming off the text in the second design. Very nice!
@cunning radish Nice! I wanted to do the same thing to repeat the color/texture from the head but didn't quite have time on stream, hah. Always great to repeat design elements. Very nice job with the liquify tool, and I like the pops of yellow color!
@quiet fern Nice, great image for this Alien Skin challenge! I really like the textured edge on the texture layer, and the liquify effects are working well. Loving the pop of color in the eyes too. This is more of a nitpick, but it could be interesting to see if you could very softly mask out the color around the facial hair and eyebrow hair, some of that warmth showing through a bit in the hair might help push the realism a bit more than everything being a uniform color tint. Just an idea of course. Very nice work!
@livid bough This turned out great, really liking that color and texture you used! Really nice job with the liquify tool as well, the head looks really natural in the way you edited it. 👍

Like this? I forgot the EYEBROWS… 🤦🏻♀️😁
Been a busy week. Playing catch up today. Here is challenge #1
Hi @eternal mica I reduced the amount of blur a little bit on both text layers and think it looks better now. What do you think?
I had to get this second one for Challenge #3 out of my head before I moved on to the ailien skin challenge. I used a lot of smoke brushes on this one 😁
Challenge 4 extra asset and my first pass...
Day 4
Can't say I am an alien person, and I had hoped to use a family member portrait for the alien but couldn't find one that had that "other worldly" look...ah well, I am learning bunches now, I usually watch the video first then try to remember how Sam did it on my own. Very good practice! I'm so glad I found this resource! ❤️
Catching up, I know it's not so legible but I find it cool. What you think?
Challenge #4 - Alien Skin - Oh boy I got carried away with this one. I had a lot of fun but now it's way behind bedtime. I've had this background image for ages and haven't had use for it before but I think it works well here.
@velvet lintel Really well done Smoking Text design. The way you graduated the smoke blur from top to bottom looks very realistic. The blur on the text looks good too. Good work.
@onyx field Creative approach to the Smoking Text challenge. The way you distinguished the top line of text from the central text works very nicely. The gradation on the SMOKE looks good. Your smoke has a wispy realistic vibe. Good work.
@wet karma Nice effort on the Smoking text design. The blurred faded text looks solid. I might suggest blurring the smoke more on the bottom 1/3 to give it more of a sense of motion up towards the top.
@dull fox Creative application of the Speed Blur technique. The central image looks solid. The blur levels look good also. I might try increasing the opacity of the blurs below the bird a bit more as you approach the core image. Good work.
@gentle pasture Cool variations of the Smoking Text. The smoke you created looks wispy and real. Both look really cool. I think I like the bottom a bit more because the smoke looks more interesting in the grey tone.
I think someone is coming for you! 👽
@jade imp Good job on your Smoking Text. The coloration on the bottom gives the sense theres a flame source to the smoke. Your blurring of the text looks good. And the wispy strands of smoke off the A and N look good too.
@deep mango Powerful message in your Smoking Text. I like the blurred letter tops in the text. The variations in the blur of the smoke look good.
I am have too much fun with Liquify. Here is my latest attempt & the image of myself I used to to do this one
@blazing widget Welcome to our Ps DCC Discord chat. We're happy you joined the group. If you have any questions, give a shout. Beautiful idea for your Speed Blur. The right image looks great. Id suggest one tweak. The left girl could be shown clearly in the top few layers of the blur, just as you did with the right core image. Blurring her head looks a bit odd.
@rigid wolf Good work with the Smoking Text. The textured text looks great. The different textures of the smoke look fine. I think the blurring of one side of the image adds to the realism.
@modest talon Nice tweak to your Smoking Text
@vagrant rapids Really well done Smoking Text design. The text adds good interest and eeriness to the design. Your unbalanced spreading of the smoke looks good. The text highlights are a cool effect.
Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback and tips!🙂

@quiet ridge Good job with the Smoking Text. The flame on the bottom is a good idea. I think it would work better if you masked the phase out of the flames, and masked in the smoke. The text looks good.
@eternal mica Thank you for your input & I agree that will make it look a lot better
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
@pliant comet Great creativity on the Smoking Text design. This is a big cat, even for you!!! It looks like the image could almost double for the Speed Blur as well. The wisps of smoke look great on both the Big Cat and the text.
@last mica The Smoking Text design is well done. The way you graded the smoke from bottom to top looks realistic. The clear smoke on top also adds realism. The blurred wavy text also looks good.
@somber harness So cool that @pliant comet inspired you to create your own interpretation of her work.
@digital pike I love your Alien. Besides all the work on the model, I really like the way you added the skin tones and lighting to the rest of the body. Cool work by you.
@cunning radish Welcome to the Ps DCC discord. Great to have you in the group. Nice first effort with your Smoking Text. The red text is a cool touch. The blurring looks good. The way you placed the smoke from bottom to top looks realistic. Very good start.
@stone steppe Nice effort on the Smoking text. The color you added is a cool touch. The blurring of the text looks solid. The lighter smoke effect on top and heavier on bottom gives a good sense of motion. Good job.
@dusky wave Awesome Alien. Your liquify looks well done especially on the eyes and fingers. The arms look a bit weird, but what the heck, its an alien!! The coloration of the entire design works well.
@lost helm Cool job on the Lighting Effect. The blending of colors from blue to pink looks great, very seamless. I like the way you brought the toning to the clothes as well.
@tawny badge Very well done Lighting Effect. The model blends into the BG nicely. The blending of the colors from light to dark look seamless. I like the shadows and coloration of the right side of the model.
@quiet ridge Haha fun alien design. You did a good job with the liquify and with the coloration of the elements of your alien. I like the earrings and the nail polish!!
@quiet fern Nice job with the Smoking text. The splash of fire adds interest to the design. The wisps of smoke across the top look good. the blurred text also looks good.
@jade imp Good work on your Alien. The liquify effect looks good. I might be a bit more careful about how I masked in the green on the fingers and lips.
@copper moss Your alien is super. The change in the color palette works well. The "feminization" of the alien is a fun approach. Your liquify looks good. The blending on the head is solid. Good job all around.
@lost helm Good work on the Smoking Text. The blurred text looks good. The heavier smoke on the bottom looks real. The wisps you added on the top 1/3 look good too.
@dull lava Nice variations for the Lighting Effects. And thank you for the description of what effects you added. I really like the B&W effect.

Further practice in the super speed blur and lighting effects challenges
Here's my alien skin version of me for Day 4 😄
I have often suggested the same idea. Especially with Sam. For him to teach us to create a character that he is so adept at would be a real treat.
What kinds of struggles were you having? Based on your post, it doesn’t look like you had much trouble - I think this looks great! The masking of the subject looks pretty good, and I think a little adjustment of the light and color cast is really all I think you’d want to go back and touch-up. And those adjustments are really fine-tuning that EVERYONE struggles with!
Haha, this makes me think of aliens getting ready to land on earth, “but first, let me take a selfie!” 😂
Challenge #4 - Alien Skin - Oh this was fun. Here is another one for the Alien Skin challenge as well as the assets I downloaded from Adobe Stock Free. I don't know how many times I thought I had finished it but found something new to adjust and I will probably found more stuff I would like to change. I guess you'll never be finished in reality in the creative process 😆
@cunning radish Cool idea to add the scales to the arm. Nice work with the liquify. Good color throughout. Adding the splashes of yellow adds interest. Nice effort by you.
It made me smile 😍
Nice job @frail ice and a very nice dog 😍
@tawny badge Well done effort on the Smoking Text. I like the gradations of the smoke from the blurry bottom to the wisps coming off the letters at the top. Just a matter of personal preference, but to add more focus, I would like to see the text a bit less blurry.
@quiet ridge Your self-Alien is great!! Good job adding scales all around. The liquify looks good as well. Bravo!!
@fiery trench Strong effort with your Alien. Good use of the liquify filter. Very good coloration. The scaling looks good throughout. I would suggest one tweak. I would mask back the scaling on the head just a bit to allow the eyes and maybe a bit of scalp to show through. But thats just me. i mean, we are talking about what an alien looks like, right????
@white cedar Youre not behind. You can do the challenges on your own schedule between now and Feb 25. Very interesting Speed Blur. You applied the technique beautifully. Your color palette and BG are perfect. I was wondering if it would make sense to have one core unblurred image of the top. Im not sure. What do you think?? Awesome job by you.
Solid tweak. Good job by you.

Challenge Three
@wary swan Super effort on your Alien. The liquify looks great. The colorization is spot on. The merging of the scaled texture looks awesome. You did an especially fine job liquifying the face and the fingers. Great work.
@slate dust Cool that you used your own smoke image. I never would have thought of having a picture of smoke lying around. Your smoke looks wispy and washes over the text nicely. Having your text on the diagonal makes placing the smoke a bit more problematic, as there doesnt seem to be a source. Perhaps you can add some more blurry smoke along the bottom 1/3 to give the sense that the smoke is rising up??
@frail ice Did you teach your dog to make snow angels??? Thats what your Speed Blur looks like. You did a solid job on making the core image stand out, and fading out to the the extreme images. I also like that the dogs face is nice and clear in the core. Good work.
@distant needle Awesome image for the Speed Blur. I like the soft blur you applied to the boys. They shouldnt be driving that fast anyway!! I think the blur on the tires is a bit off, especially on the right go kart. It looks like you have them moving sideways rather back to front. The left go kart looks more back to front.
@plain sable Excellent effort on your Alien. The colorization is superb. The masking is spot on. The merging of the scale layers throughout the design is awesome, especially on the tulips. And the liquify is as realistic as an alien can be. If I had to nit pick one thing, Id say that the right eye is a bit larger than the left, but who says an alien needs two even eyes? Incredible job by you. 💯
@tawny badge Wow, I just raved about the previous post. Now I need to rave again. Your Alien post is awesome. Your image selection is perfect for the exercise. Thanks for posting the assets. Your colorization is cohesive and balanced. The liquify looks awesome. The merging of the scale textures looks "natural" and believable. The overall vibe is spot on. Awesome effort by you.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @tawny badge
@gentle pasture Super interesting interpretation to the Alien design. Your liquify work is terrific. The way you manipulated the original body and head looks very believable (for an Alien). The coloration is solid. I like the outer glow you gave the skin. The scale textures are really creatively applied. Very solid effort all around.
@slate dust Its awesome that your enjoying yourself while learning all these new techniques. I must say, I'm not at all surprised. I am surprised you couldnt find one family member to turn into an Alien!!! I could have lent you a bunch from my family!!! 😂 😂 In any event, nice work with your Alien. Theres a good solid cohesive color palette on the design. The liquify on the head arms and fingers looks great. The scale texture on the head is well done. I especially like the eye and ear treatment you created. Good effort by you.
@lean harbor I guess you said it yourself, its not that legible, but thats what you liked in this design. For me, if there's text in a design, it needs to be legible, otherwise why have text. I would suggest you try a version with the text a bit more legible, keeping the other elements of your design. I think you can accomplish both goals. And I like the black version.
@halcyon current You definitely found a use for that BG!!! It works beautifully here. Your Alien looks terrific. The colorization blends perfectly with the BG. The liquify you applied throughout is wonderful. The scale texture is applied seamlessly to the Alien. The treatment of the eyes and ears is great. I especially like how the black eyes add cohesion with the black clothes. Great effort. Worth staying up past bedtime to complete.
@white cedar Very creative approach to the Lighting Effect challenge. Creative concept. Terrific execution. I might make one tweak. Id add a green color overlay to the model's body. Having the face and clothes stay so crisp and natural decreases the effect of the laser shot. What do you think?
@quiet ridge Turning yourself into an Alien is cool. Did you intend for the Alien not to be centered? It looks a bit off.
Yes I was going for centered & you are right it is off I Might take this as my reason to play around a bit more lol
🥳
@vapid osprey Welcome to our Ps DCC chat. We're happy you decided to join in. If you have any questions, feel free to give a shout. We're here to help you along. It would be awesome to see the asset images you used to create your Speed Blur design. The blurring of the hands look spot on. they fade and blur as they move away from the core image. I think the face images could use a bit more fade as you move away from the core image. What do you think? We look forward to your future posts.
Far be it from me to give you MORE reason to play around!!!! I can barely keep with your designs now!!! 😜
@junior ibex Nice work on the Lighting Effect design. The BG image gives you a lot to work with. The blending of the colors on the model is well done. It looks great as you worked down the face neck clothes all the way to the hands. I would suggest you make one tweak to the toning. There seems to be much more red light source on the left of the model and more blue on the right. You have the colors on the model reversed. I would suggest you switch that toning around.
@naive mulch You did a great job with the Speed Blur, especially since you used a stationary image!! i guess you could be depicting yourself, rushing to sit down before the teacher catches you out of your seat!!!. The blurs and fades look spot on. Good effort.
@tropic garnet Interesting image to use for the Speed Blur. Im not sure if you used blur layers or just blur filters on the whole image. If you used layers, in order to sell the multiple image effect that Sam was describing, I would suggest you make the top layers of some of your images more distinct. Obviously, if you went for the full blur layer effect, that would not apply.
@eternal mica Made me do it 😂 🤣 😂
Well done! Always great to share the original picture it helps to realize all the work behind the result. Love the bleached color grading!🤩 Fits well with alien theme!
@blazing widget Nice dump of the three images. If you had difficulty with any particular aspect of the Lighting Effect design and would like some assistance, DM and we can discuss it. Your Smoking Text looks really good. I like the font you used. I like that you blurred the text but still kept it very legible. The variation between the bottom smoke and top smoke looks realistic. Your Humble Alien looks great. Very creative approach to the design. The coloration looks spot on. The liquify is so humanly believable; great job. And the texture on the hair is a wonderful touch. Good work by you.
Keep having fun!!!

No joke! Your work looks awesome! Love the color changing, skin blending, face distortion. Glowing lines and nails add a great futuristic touch. Impressive work!👍
@deep mango Aha, we used that BG in Howard Pinsky's series last year. Cool integration here. Is it OK if I say youre Alien is really pretty??? The coloration is incredibly well done. The simple smock its wearing makes the coloration even that much more dramatic. Your liquify is so natural its scary. The subtle smile is awesome. The splashes of red for the eyes are captivating. Terrific piece.
@halcyon current , @hollow yarrow Is so impressed with your piece because he likes that you co-opted his model image from his pre-stream lunch design on Friday!!! He loves when we all try to copy him. 🤣 🤣 🤣 Joking aside, he's absolutely correct. This piece is really special. I love the coloration. The neon green is super. The liquify looks awesome, especially for the eyes. The textures throughout look incredible. Let me make one tiny tiny tweak. The window frame behind the left arm is difficult to separate from the arm. On first glance, it looks like you might have liquified the arm. Perhaps just lighten the arm a wee bit to increase the contrast there. 💯
@modest talon Nice job on Lighting Effects #2
@dusky wave WOW. Amazing rework of the Alien. I love it. The coloration is awesome. One little tweak. The neck needs more contrast from the BG image. The head looks like its floating in midair.
@tropic knoll To sell your concept for the Smoking Text, how about masking in some of the colors you have in the smoke to the base of the letters. Its hard to visualize where those colors are coming from.
@hearty quiver Whoa, a whole week's worth of designs in one dump!!! Here I go: Cover: I love the design, the colors, the watercolor painted vibe, the stark white BG with black highlighted text. My one tweak is Id scale up the design by a lot. The canvas can hold it. 2. Speed Blur: Nice work. Im not sure if you intended the middle image or the right image to be your core image. They both look about the same. the left image fades nicely. Id suggest you fade out the right one a bit more and move it behind the middle one to make the distinction clearer. 3. Lighting Effect: Your BG has a heavy blue tint. Id add more of a blue tint to the model with a color overlay at a low opacity, using one of the blues from the sky.
@hearty quiver Your Smoking Text is crisp clean and direct. Well done. The blur you applied to the text, left it legible, which I like. The smoke has a wispy rising vibe. Your Alien is awesome. I love the concept. Youve made the Alien sort of transparent with the way you applied the scale layer. The coloration looks solid. The liquify is well done. The laser eyes area cool touch!! I would make one tweak. I think the design will look a lot more cohesive if the glow were the magenta from the face rather than white. What do you think?
@silent portal Good looking Smoking Text. You blurred the text just enough. The wisps you added to the letter tops are well done. The variations in the smoke, bottom to top, add a sense of rising smoke. Good work.
@naive mulch Interesting idea for your Alien. Liquifying yourself is definitely a brave effort. I think you might want to touch up some of the masking around your legs and shoes.
@modest talon Nice work on your Alien. The liquify looks solid. The eyes look especially good. The fingers look cool too. The scaled texture is well done, especially on the head. I might add a blue color overlay to the Alien to make the coloration a bit more cohesive.
@silent portal Very Cool work on your Alien. The coloration picks up the BG colors beautifully. The liquify is well done. The scale texture added to the head looks great. The liquify you added on the eyes is especially well done.
Haha, thanks. The background image was a suuuuper blurry picture of me as a kid at the beach. I found it on my computer and wanted to see if I could get the woman to fit. It could use some tweaks, but I’m happy with it at the moment. 🙂
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
@lean harbor Very impressive Alien design. Th concept is great; the execution is awesome. The washed out BG has the vibe of so many movies involving Aliens. The way it fades in as well as the lines create a great sense of depth and motion. Great application by you. The liquify is incredible. The scale texture is applied perfectly. I have one question: is it one two headed Alien or is it twin Aliens???
@tropic garnet Last June, in the first ever series of DCC @bleak fossil led, he had us do an exercise called Material & Textures. This design reminds me of that. Did you participate in that exercise with us? This is a powerful work, using the techniques Sam suggested in interesting ways. It shows real creativity. Good for you.
Ok. I wasnt sure how it would look.
Thanks @eternal mica . I did it, but not in June. I got busy for a few months and caught up with most of them before the end of last year. Ironically enough, I didn’t use a texture for the type. I used the Keith Haring vinyl scraper brush.
@distant needle Good effort with the Lighting Effects. The right side of the model blends in nicely with the BG. On the left, youre reflecting a bright light source which isnt in the design. You might want to lower the intensity of that on the model. (Or, alternatively create a light source. But that might require you change a lot more in the BG.)
Super tweak. I think it looks a lot better.
Challenge 4. Not sure about the colors on the subject compared to the background - would prefer lightening up the subject but I didn't like a lighter background so stuck with this look. Liquify is indeed fun.
Thank you so much @eternal mica I love that BG.

Thank you @hollow yarrow for your kind words. I believe I could spend another hour on this one 😂
Sure I can 🙃 I was testing how tin font could go without losing point. I thing this is the verge. I like it because it turned kinda abstract. Thanks for the commentary Ted.

LOL @eternal mica I had to go back and check up on @hollow yarrows send and that one was cool. I didn't remember it when I choose my model image for this one 😂 I struggled a bit with the colors but finally found a combination I was happy with. You're absolutely right about the window frame behind the left arm. I discovered that the dark part of the upper arm was pitch black so I had to lighten the central parts of the window frame instead of the arm. I think it looks better now.
hahha 😄 well there was a free space so I slapped the copy, I assume that they are twins 😄 but maybe its alien race where they are all alike xD
thanks for commenting, I appreciate you
it was quite weird doing this to myself xD next time when I get mad at someone I will just brought a photo of them in the ps 😄 laughing at results pahjah
Thank you very much! ☺️

hello! a lil late to the party here. I decided to just start from Day 1 🙂
Welcome!
DAY 1
original & completed:
used my own photo.
background from Unsplash. I feel like I haven't found the perfect background for my vibe but for the sake of beating artist perfectionism I'm deciding to just post it (also I need to go to bed lol)
Sweet!
Thank you Ted

Impressive! Effect looks so realistic! You nailed it!👍
Nice shot! I particularly like the fingers distortion and Head liquify! Great work!
Nice work! I like how you deformed the head of the alien and how you kept colors of the two pictures cohesive . Green on eyes and nails adds a nice touch.👍
Thank you @hollow yarrow for your warm feedback 😀

Thank you, I really appreciate your feedback and I really enjoy @bleak fossil 's challenges
Challenge #3 I didn't like the way my smudge tool looked so I created a clipping mask with the text and a layer of smoke instead, then toned down some of the smoke in the background.
Day 3 - Smoking Text Effects
Is it time for the stream already???
lol... It's my breaktime... Wait a minute Alien skin is coming Ted 😉
Whew, I was worried. I thought my watch stopped!!! 🤣
The responses to Sam's challenges have been amazing. I dont think Ive ever seen a broader response to a single challenge than to this Alien challenge. The responses have been overwhelming. And so many amazing ones.
So do you want me to post my Alien skin post or it would overwhelming you? Let me know... I finished my review and I can post it now (one hour before the stream it should be ok... No? 😉 )
Never hold up your posts!!! I would want to see your work anytime you have it.
Day 4 - Alien Skin
I'll study it later.
Thanks for your feedback, indeed the mist in the background bothered me so I shifted the image down to slightly move the skateboard away from the mist. I agree, it's not perfect background

#5. coloring Sams painting. I felt proud doing it. Hope I have not ruined it 🙂
Color a Painting. I did this in free style not in a classic color painting demands. Many thanks for the process layers. I applied more pleasant color shade not to scare the audience. Ha-ha.
Here I just changed the gradient map on the spot. It is a green thinking guy now. Thanks, this was a wonderful session with Sam. I have became acquainted with many things in coloring a painting.

Hi everyone, this is version 🙂 It´s my first challenge here, I´m new.
@junior ibex Very good job on the Smoking Text design. The wavy text looks good. The highlighting of the smoke in the middle of the design creates a vibe that the letters are creating the smoke. You did a fine job fading the smoke as it moves away from the text. Good work.
Wow, I think this tweak came out great. What do you think??
Thanks a lot! I appreciate!

Here is my day 5 challenge
@velvet lintel Nice work on your Alien. You mimicked what Sam showed very well. Thats always a good idea. I agree, your coloration looks fine. I might suggest you could have pushed the liquify to get more of the model to be misshapen. But thats just personal preference. Good work.
@white cedar Wait a minute, your laser beam turned a Day 3 design into a Day 4 design. Neat trick!!! In my comment on your original design, I said I thought you should extend the laser effect to the model and clothes. You took it to another level. I love it. Your Alien is awesome. The coloration is spot on. The textures look great. Very creative effort by you.
@tropic garnet Whoa, this is super. Your Alien is so creative. Did you draw it from scratch or is it a mash up of a real face? The colors are terrific. Great work!!!
Thanks. I started with a stock portrait, merged that with a robot, added the reptile texture then painted it.
@rigid wolf Very nice work on your Alien. Your liquify is well done, especially the eyes. The coloration works well together. The texture you added looks solid, and the fade you created to blend it with the skin tones works nicely.
If you have the time, that would make for an awesome process GIF for you to share with group. Im sure a lot of people would be interested in seeing it.
@wet karma Im really liking your Alien. The coloration is so cohesive and smooth. The splashes of green throughout really keep the design together. Your liquify effects are well done, very Goldilocks. The texture you added blends in beautifully. Nice job all around.
Yeah! Absolutely
@gentle pasture, what are these things called in Harry Potter?? Dementors??? Your Speed Blur looks just like that. The blur/fade on the runner is spot on. Well done.
i have to agree with you it definitely came out much better thanks for the feedback

@tiny monolith Youre not late at all. This DCC series runs from 01/31 through 02/25. You can complete the challenges on your own schedule. If you'd like to watch the Welcome stream, where @bleak fossil explains the process details, you'll find the link in the pin icon on your ribbon bar. Welcome in. have fun. If you have any questions, give a shout. We're here to help.
@tiny monolith Good effort on Speed Blur. You did a fine job fading and blurring the various layers. The BG is also cool. I would suggest that you can sell the concept of multiple realities better if you picked out a left and a right core image that looks almost 100% and fed off each of those. It will give a stronger vibe of multiple realities. Good work.
Challenge Day 5 Color Painting...I definitely love this challenge
Youre welcome. @bleak fossil is very special.
@distant needle In Ps, there rarely is one way to achieve a look. If you felt more comfortable with these steps, good for you. The Smoking text looks solid. Might I say, the smoke you added has a soft "sultry" vibe. Very well done.
@hollow yarrow I think your image is more fire than smoke, but the design is "hot". The fire image looks great. The way you added "strokes" of fire is beautiful. The color palette has an "on fire" vibe. If I had one tweak, Id like to have seen the text be a bit less blurred.
@hollow yarrow The coloration on your Alien is spot on. Ive seen you use the speed blur to create that "beamed up" vibe so many times. I love how you do it. The liquify is very "Goldilocks". The Piece de resistance is the text on the T Shirt. I love it!!!
#3AIChallenge-SocialMediaPost
wrong chat., lol
@tall maple Super Alien design. The BG image is great. Your liquify looks terrific. The coloration of the design works very well. The textures are blended in beautifully. I would suggest one tweak. I would create a much stronger overflow glow from that strong light source onto the right side of the Alien. Very good effort.
Great tweak!!! Good work by you.
@rugged prism Welcome to the Ps DCC Discord chat. If you need any help, give a shout. We're here to help. Nice effort with the Speed Blur. You did a fine job with the fades/blurs. I would suggest it would help sell the multiple reality concept of the design if you had the top image on the left and right be less blurred.
@winter root Very well done Color Painting. Using green as your base color really gave you a different vibe.
Thanks! I really like this design 😊
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
@dusky wave Nice coloration and brush strokes on your Color Painting. The work you did around the eye and mouth is especially well done.
@jade imp I dont think you went overboard at all. I think your design has a real sinister vibe, created by the deep tones of your color palette. Adding the BG is also a great touch, which adds contrast to the design.
isnt @hollow yarrow great at using that light technique??? He does it so effectively.
@clever whale Oh wow, a "cool cat" Alien!! This is excellent. Great concept; Excellent execution. The coloration is cohesive consistent and believable. The liquify is great throughout. The fingernails is an especially great touch, as is the chin. The textures are blended in beautifully. Awesome work. 💯
@last mica Very cool job on the Color Portrait. You design ahs a gooey slimy monster gloss to it. The darkening of the neck makes the monster even more slimy. Your coloration is terrific.
@digital pike Very interesting color scheme for your Monster. Combining the multi colors gives it a very "human" vibe. The red tones definitely add interest. Very good work.
@gentle pasture Is that drawing for today's Color Painting exercise?
@dusky swallow OOOH I love this Alien design. I love the bright cheery color palette and the vibe it created. The coloration throughout is excellent. The liquify is well done. The texture is blended into the skin tone very well. The eyes are well done. The light on the T Shirt is a special touch and looks great.
@wary swan Very well done on your Monster. The BG does so much to add life to the design. Your monochromatic approach to the coloration process works very nicely. The splash of green in the eye adds pop. Well done, my friend.
@quiet ridge Haha, your design looks like you mounted the head of the monster in your den, like a trophy moose head. Greta. I like the bright color palette you used. All the colors work well together. They give the monster a friendly rather than vicious vibe. The bright yellow ring adds tons of pop to the design.
@livid bough Very well done monster design. The shadows add a lot of character to the design. The eye adds a strong sense of realism.
@dull lava Very cool concept on the Speed Blur. And nice work on it. I would suggest you can increase the opacity of some of the layers on each side closer in to the core image to increase the vibe of motion a bit more.
@lost helm Interesting concept for the coloration of your monster. It looks great. And adding the BG colors adds to the design. The cohesiveness looks great.
@copper moss Both versions look great. I especially like the top one. I think your blending of all those colors is very well done. It makes the monster look really friendly and happy.
@hearty gale Good effort with the Lighting effects design. I like the soft tones you added to the edges of the model and his clothes. I think you might like a color overlay over the model to tone down his highlights and have him blend in more with the tone of the BG image. (e.g. look at the brightness of his shirt as compared to the brightest lights in the BG.)
@frail ice Very nice Smoking Text. The fading red tones give off a real vibe of variable heat. I like the level of blurriness you added to the text. and the varying waves of smoke look great. Nice work by you.
@frail ice Very interesting interpretation of the Color Painting exercise. Its always cool to see how many different looks can be created by using different techniques on the same design.
@dusky swallow Very creative presentation of the Monster design. It looks awesome. Your color gradations on the monster work beautifully. Adding the scenery is a great touch. Well done.
@vagrant rapids I love the soft warm tones you used here. The highlights and shadows are very well done. Your monster has an almost human vibe to it. the BG adds so much to the design. Well done.
@vague steeple Welcome. We're happy you decided to join the Ps DCC Discord chat. @hardy bolt Welcome to the Ps DCC Discourse chat. Great that you joined the party. You can read my comment about joining the chat in the previous note, as it applies to you as well. Good work om your monster design. I like the color palette you chose. The contrast created by the eye adds real pop. Nice job by you.
@junior ibex Very well done. The cohesion of the colors including the BG really works well. I like the enhanced shadows you added. They give real depth and contrast to the design. The tooth and eye have a real life gleam to them. Nice work.
cool I'll check it out, thanks Ted

@eternal mica Thanks, Ted! Frankly, it was Sam's template that was terrific. Any idea how did he make it? Say, If I had a figure sketch (no shading), how can I make it look like Sam's? Please [please] let me know. 🎖️
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
I have no idea. It's way above my pay grade. Sam makes these drawings up in his sleep. It's his specialty. Check out his Behance page to get a feel for how good he is at this. I've often suggested that he do a whole two week series just on how he makes his monsters.
Wow! My guess was that Sam spent [may be] an entire day making that sketch.
challenge 5
We can ask him tomorrow in the stream. He is a perfectionist. He spends more time on the tiniest detail that you wouldn't even think about. But when he adds it, that detail turns "Good" into "Great"
😵💫 ... I guess, I'll have to login tomorrow. Done! and Thanks 👍
Challenge 5
This is more what I was going for with my first post for todays challenge
@winter root Awesome, glad to hear it! The classic green orc color, hah, very nice. I think you could probably tone down the saturation and even the contrast a touch for a more realistic look, but this kind of has an interesting almost "slime monster" look to it. Nice job.
@dusky wave Very cool, I love the touches of red around the eye, lip, and even in the neck. That along with the cooler color in the head scales gives this some really natural looking color variation. Looks good!
@jade imp Very nice! Yeah, it's nice that there's some good ways to get really subtle hue shifts with a low flow brush or adjustment layers. Luckily if you ever feel like you've gone overboard you can always tweak things like opacity, or saturation or other adjustment layers. I like the color variation you added.
@clever whale Looking good! I love what you did with the liquify tool on this one. The placement of the textures and contrast between the blue color and the skin tone works really well. Lighting looks like it fits together well too, nicely done!
@last mica Really digging the hue shifts between the sections of this portrait. Nice work with the painting on the Normal layer too, the little highlights are a cool touch to give his skin a glossy look. Well done!
@digital pike Ooh, the bold colors mask for a really interesting look! Kind of reminds me of certain tropical frogs that have a sudden bold color shift between different areas of their bodies. Nice job with the color/hue shifts in this. 👍
@gentle pasture Very nice! Cool to see this applied to another image. The cool/warm contrast in the color choices make for an interesting look. I'm not sure how long you've had the tablet, but there's definitely a learning curve involved. I think it takes a lot of people a couple weeks or a month or so of regular use to get a good feel for it, but once you do it helps a LOT for anything drawing or painting related, though a mouse with low flow can also do well depending on what the specific use is. Nice job!
@dusky swallow Looking cool! The bold colors make for a really interesting look, almost a sort of black light/neon lighting feel to them. Great work with the liquify tool, the head shape looks excellent. Nice job with the texture masking as well.
@wary swan Very cool, I like the bold color contrast of the eyes. It could help to get a little more color variation (even if subtle) in areas of the face, and maybe even a darker tone for the darkest color in your gradient map to give the deepest shadows a bit bolder of a look. I like the color gradient between the background colors. Nice work!
@rugged prism You did a great job on this one! The blur is looking great and the placement of the images gives her a nice sense of motion with bobbing and weaving. The faded opacity of the other images work really well to sell that ghosted image effect. Really nice job on this challenge!
@modest talon Very nice! Really liking how far you tool the liquify tool effect in this design. The skin coloration and texture on the head and arms are looking really cool too. My only minor suggestion is that I think the contrast could be increased on the figure, specifically the dark tones boosted to more closely match the contrast of the background. Currently the background has really deep dark tones, more so than the alien, which makes him feel slightly out of place in the same scene. A simple Levels adjustment layer clipped to the alien could easily fix that if you want. Just a thought of course. Nice work!
@tall maple The coloration and masking of the textures on your day 4 design is looking great! The texture on the neck is a nice touch. I really like the subtle color variation on the face, and the alien fits in really well with the colors of the background. The liquify is looking really solid as well, nicely done.
@hollow yarrow You're killing it as usual Franck, I love the addition of the light/energy aura around the alien. The texture blends in really well to the skin and has a great look to it, and of course the space invader shirt is an A+ addition to this design, hah. Great work!
@hollow yarrow The flaming/smoking text design looks awesome, really liking that effect of the flames leaping off the top of the letters. "The" being in black to contrast the flames works great, and the color shift of the red tones around the bottom of the letters adds some nice interest. This came out great!
@distant needle Nice work, the softness of the text is looking good and it definitely has a sort of cloudy/smoky feel to it. Glad you found a method that got the look you were going for. Nicely done 👍
@quiet ridge Whoa, look to see this design taken to such a bold direction in terms of color palette. I personally like the second one more because the repetition of the blue makes it feel more intentional and unified. Nice job blending these various colors together, and the background shape makes for an interesting look too. The only nitpick I had was it looked like the background got included a bit in the selection of the troll head but it looks like you fixed that. Nice job on this design!
@junior ibex I like the color palette you got going here! The shift between the deeper greens and brighter yellows is looking good. It makes for a nice contrast against the blue background, and the yellow eyes and white teeth are a nice change of color as well. Nice work!
@hardy bolt Cool color scheme on this one! I really like the yellow eye against the pink skin. The only thing I notice is that it looks like some of the purple tones, particularly around the jaw/mouth area seem to be an opaque blending mode that obscures some of the details/values of the face. Unless that was intentional to try painting opaquely with a Normal layer on top of everything else. Nice job!
@vague steeple Awesome, welcome on in! I'm glad you're joining us. Really cool color scheme with this design! The bold colors give it a sort of neon/cyberpunk/futuristic feel which is really neat, and that has a nice strong contrast against the background. Cool textures too!
@vagrant rapids I like the graphic addition of the text on this one! The purple/yellow color scheme makes for some nice color temperature contrast. The only thing I'd say is the gradient map gave it a really intense contrast and got rid of most of the midtones, you can always adjust this with the sliders within the gradient by moving them further left or right, but if that's the effect you were going for then disregard this comment, hah. Liking the style of this!
@dusky swallow Cool addition of the background in the Day 5 design! I like the color shifts you have going on in the portrait, some yellows, reds, and blueish/purple tones add some nice variety and contrast. Nicely done.
@frail ice Really nice job with the blurry softness in the Day 3 text challenge, it definitely gives it a wispy sort of fiery look. The color shift between the orange and red work really well, the boldness against the black background looks great. Really cool take on the Day 5 challenge too, I like all the variations you got with this!
@hearty gale This is looking good! I like the subtlety of the lighting on the left side of the face, and the portrait fits in really nicely with the color and lighting of the background. Great colors.
@eternal mica Very cool effect! I like how far you took the liquify tool in this challenge. The way you used the texture across the whole body is a really neat look too. The main suggestion I'd have is it looks like the green part of the head doesn't have the same value/lighting information we see on the body so it looks a little flat in comparison. Not sure if you used a different blending mode or that effect was intentional but figured I'd mention it. Cool background and color contrast in this one 👍
@copper moss Glad to hear it! Nice work, It's nice to see multiple versions of this design. I really like the contrast of the blue head/scales against the warm skin tone on the first one. And the shifts between blue and green on the second one work nicely as well. Nice work!
@lost helm Very cool, I like the purple version of this creature! The green eye makes for a nice color contrast too, and I like the color variation in the eye and head scales areas. Nice job.

@eternal mica yes is was for the colour challenge
OK. I'll give it a look on my next sit down.
I was able to get to Challenge 3 and try the text effect, I think it turned out pretty good. I wanted to add Are You but didn't like the way it was turning out.
I erased a little too much of my R but foolishly didn't save a copy but I now know for next time, don't erase soo much lol
#challenge 5
I just want to very quickly reply to your comment "dont erase too much". I learned to rarely use ERASE in a case like this. Masking is a much more flexible option. If I mask, I can increase/decrease/modify endlessly and very specifically alter an image in a way I can never accomplish with ERASE.
thanks!

Just to close the loop on this point, I mentioned this to Sam. He said its a bit too complicated to respond to in a text. He may be creating a 10-15 minute process stream or a text write up to show how he does it. As soon as its done he'll post it on his Behance page. I'll post a notice here.
**Today's Day 6 Challenge! Retouch a Portrait
**
A reminder that Shawn mentioned, when using the Clone Stamp Tool on the textured layer make sure the Sample option up at the top is set to "Current Layer".
I also added a little bit of a Levels adjustment to brighten up the final image a touch more.
Day 5
Retouch Portrait. That is my production. I colored the lips to make more vivid. I resized the image size 2000X2650. I do not know if it is effect on retouching. Thanks! It was needed session on polishing the portrait.

Hi @vagrant rapids , this happened to me as well. By default, I guess, the program sets the scale as 1 and offset as 0. On Sam's presentation it was 2 for scale and 128 for offset. Just seen below someone has answered 🙂
This should help.... https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/frequency-separation-doesn-t-work-apply-image-subtruct/m-p/9884741 Although I am still trying to figure out how how to work upon the texture layer. 😦
Hi, I have worked on frequency separation in photoshop many times and it always worked as it should but for some reason I can't get it work anymore. So I made "gaussian blur" and "texture" layers. The problem starts with Apply image - I do everything as it should be done (choose "gaussian blur" la...
Absolutely @jade imp- I never used "Apply image" before -
Thanks 🙂

Challenge 6 - Retouch a portrait. Really amazed at the different tools and techniques available to carry out this task. As suggested, things that are permanent, like freckles, I aimed to keep in. But I am struggling to understand the purpose of the gaussian blur? I can't see how that affected the image as most blemishes were cleared either with the brushes, or clone tool.
Great job!
@hollow yarrow Thanks 😊

Impressive job! Your "natural" edited version is great and I like how you softened the skin on the "high end" version (just enough to keep a light texture)... The only issue now is you have to edit the rest of her body to make the whole image more cohesive 😉 ... Really great great job!
Thanks, yeah I just concentrated on her face

Challenge #5 - Color a Painting - Here's what I did with @bleak fossils cute little monster colorized somewhat I got in my mind during the live stream. I'm not a painter and had to struggle a little with this one, but it's fun like all the other challenges from Sam.
I was drawing this hand for Wade's studies and I thought 'why not coloring it' and here we are. Challenge 5
DCC 6
Finally I got it! Challenge of the day. It is a little bit too blurry ... I'll do better next time. This challenge was so interesting - I better understand now what Jessica Kobeissi means with the frequency separation.
Challenge #6 - Retouch a Portrait - I used an old photo of my daughter for this challenge (as I've done before) as she had troubles with acne when she was in her teens. I of course I have her permission to share this 8 year old photo. After & Before... I had to remove my first post of this as I missed to save in sRGB and the photos got pretty dull as I edit in ProPhoto color space.
Day 06
It looks great @lean harbor . I have never been able to drawing by hand (or digitally) like this. Cool colorization of the hand and cool drawing 👍
Good job @dusky swallow. It looks natural to me.
Cool color combination @vagrant rapids
@hearty quiver Solid work with your Color Picture exercise. You have a cohesive consistent look throughout. The red tones look great. And the grey highlights are very well done. Nice work by you.
@velvet lintel Very well done Color Picture design. The monochromatic effect looks great. You created enough tones and shadows to make it look realistic. the one splash of green gives some pop to the design. Good choice of BG also.
@tropic garnet I love your Image for the Color Picture exercise. It has so much character, and you amplified it beautifully with the coloration you added. I think i like the second one, but they are both well done. I think the contrast of the grey beard against the leathery tanned face is what swung me to that version. And the highlights on the left side of the face are more distinct. Wonderful effort by you.
@silent portal Your two toned Color Picture looks great. The color palette works well. Your shading is consistent and believable. Good job.
@deep mango Very cool Color Picture design. The colors look great together. The way you handled the creases on the monster is awesome. The enhanced spots on the head look great. The bright splashes of the tooth and eye add pop.
@hearty gale Nice effort on the Smoking Text. The faded text looks good. The smoke looks wispy. Having smoke only above the word is an interesting interpretation, but it works.
@runic gust Really well done design for the Monster. Youve added a lot of colors, but they all have a natural cohesive look. I might lower the opacity of the green spots a bit. They seem to be too prominent vs the other colors.
@rugged prism Very well done Lighting Effect design. the model blends in nicely to the BG. I would suggest a few tweaks. The tones on the face fade in nicely. You might want to blend them together just a bit more in the center so there is not a distinct demarcation from red to blue, especially on the hair. The white of the shirt could probably use a color overlay to tone it down and blend in with the red/blue tinting you applied. And the red on the glasses is a bit too strong. Its not in synch with your other tinting.
Thanks @halcyon current! I love the color palette you used for your one too - the grey skin and its highlights are stunning.

@tiny monolith Good work on your cover design. Clean crisp straight forward. The colors look great together. The layer styles look neat. Good job.
It's super clean and natural @dusky swallow - you got rid of the imperfections while you kept the natural midtones of her skin. Great job!
@gentle pasture Really creative approach to the color painting exercise. It would be great to see your asset. The color palette looks great. The blotches you added throughout create a lot of interest. The work with the text is cool. Very well done.
@somber harness Nice work with the smoke design (except for the erasing, LOL). I like the degree to which you blurred the text. The smoke is wispy and realistic.
@wet karma Your monster looks really good. The thick leathery under chin and neck area and the softer top side is a great look. the colors are consistent and realistic.
Amazing, it is clean and ultra natural! Good job 👏
@queen aspen Your Alien design is well done. The liquify is subtle but effective. The skin tones are almost natural. The texture is blended in nicely. The work you did on the atmosphere of the design is a cool approach, and masked very very well.
Totally new approach for me. I really like this Frequency separation and happy with results. Could have worked more on reflection on face but todays was not about that.

challenge 6 - I had a lot of problems in the beginning. Tried Apply image > add and High pass filter, but they didn't work either. An hour back, I tried again with the 'Substract' technique, and it worked really well. I hope I didn't over do 'the thing'. Let me know.
a slight edit over the previous one.

@lost helm Very cool, I like the purple version of this creature! The green eye makes for a nice color contrast too, and I like the color variation in the eye and head scales areas. Nice job.
@tame jacinth The steam/smoke effect is looking good! I like this take on the challenge and how it's rising off the cookies. If you softened the edges of the text with blur a bit more it might give it more of that smokey look, but it all just depends on what you're going for. Nice work!
@hearty quiver This is looking great! Really nice job with all the retouching, everything has a very convincing look to it. Great job with this technique!
@hearty hatch This looks great! Subtlety is often the key with these sort of techniques so they still look natural and not edited, and I think you nailed that in this design. Nicely done!
@gentle pasture The retouching challenge is looking really solid! All the edits have a nice, natural look to them. Nice job with both the coloration and texture edits. Looks good!
@lost helm Glad you were able to find a new approach! This is looking really good and is a great photo for this challenge. It really transforms the image but still has a natural look to it. Nicely done!
@hollow yarrow Great photo for this challenge! Cool to see you edit an entire group image, all the edits are looking really natural. The subtle teeth whitening edits are a really nice touch too. The video really does a great job of showing exactly what you did. Excellent job with this technique.
@tropic knoll Ooh, cool take on this challenge! I like the smudged tail ends of the different letters and how they blend in to the background smoke. The monster design is a really neat addition. Nice job!

I enjoyed this one even more, with each challenge, am learning something and with all the feedback i get here i can see instant progress. Thanks a lot. Just one observation from this technique after the whole process is done, the result looks slightly darker compared to the original and here i think Levels adjustment layer would come handy.. what do you think?
im looking to hire some artists to help me design and draw some digital art if your interested in making some money and get paid from it please pm me
Challenge 2:
I loved this one today! Learnt so much about the adjustment layers - I've definitely used them before but got a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of opportunity there, so this definitely helped me break it down. The trick with Hue/Saturation masking was really neat, as well as Color Balance.
Challenge 4 ...
nice job. I had the same experience. Just one adjustment i would recommend the purple light falling on his left side is a bit too bright or warm compared to the background, maybe try reducing it a bit...

@clever whale I like your monster. The colors look great. Im not sure why you decided to make the design so dark.. I would think it would look great in a much brighter setting.
@copper moss Good work on the retouching. I think you might have gone a bit further than Sam suggested by removing some of the natural marks on the model's face. Nothing wrong with that. Just different.
@digital pike Very smooth job on the retouching. You did a fine job differentiating between the blemishes and the natural skin tone of the model. Good work.
@dusky wave Your result looks fine. As always, Sam's technique was a suggestion. if you used a different solution to achieve similar results, more power to you.
@vague steeple The second image is right on. It looks great. The third image also looks good, but for a different objective. I like the second one's more natural look of the model's face including the freckles and natural marks.

@jade imp Beautiful work on the retouching. The revision looks smooth clean and natural. Well done
@halcyon current Very well done monster. I love the color palette, and especially the splash of green for the eye. My only comment would be I would make the design way brighter. But that may be personal preference.
@lean harbor As always, you can use any assets you'd like for you designs. The ones provided are merely suggestions. I think you did a wonderful job coloring in your own drawing. It looks very realistic. I would make one comment on the drawing, even though drawing is not my strong suit. It looks to me like the shadow inside the hand should be down on the table. Where you have it positioned makes it look like it is part of the hand. Im not sure Im right about that. Just a thought.
Thank you @eternal mica for your feedback! Don't you remember my Welcome post for this challenges - I'm into dark designs 😉 I actually darked it down a lot just to fit the vision I got during the live stream.

@dusky swallow Your retouching is solid. The model looks great. The image looks completely untouched. You did an awesome job working only on the blemishes and not the natural skin tones. Very well done.
@tall maple Absolutely beautiful Color Painting designs. Are those your own drawings?? The first one is super. I think the second could use more contrast between the animal and the BG. But they may just be the look you wanted. Really good work.
@lost helm Echoing Sam, perfect image for exercise, and you did a great job.

@rigid wolf Your monster is terrific. I love the color palette. It looks like you added a halftone texture. Cool idea. My one tweak would be to sharpen the edge of the scalp. Maybe the halftone is creating a strange effect along that edge.
@last mica Trying new techniques can always be a struggle. But thats how we learn best. Its good you stuck with it. Making two versions is cool. Your version 1 looks solid. Natural. Smooth. I think the version 2 took a bit too much away from the natural skin tones. But thats just me. Good work.
PS Creative challenge - Retro comic book style
@slate dust WOW, awesome work by you. The revision looks clear crisp untouched. I would make one tweak. I would add back some of the pink tone to the baby's skin. I think its a tiny bit too washed out, especially on the forehead and right cheek. But thats just my preference. Your Design. Your Decision.
@rigid wolf You took the retouching to the limit!! It looks gauzy, ephemeral. The skin has an angelic soft vibe. Beautiful interpretation.
@vapid osprey I apologize. Im too old to remember the original scene. Can you show me your asset photo so i can see what your work?
@velvet lintel Very well done retouching. The skin tone looks identical to the original. I think you eliminated a lot of the natural skin effects, but thats your choice. You did it very nicely.
@hollow yarrow Your subtle hand on the group retouching is really cool. I think I like the second best of all. They all came out great.
Thank you for this beautiful comment ☺️

@rugged prism Interesting interpretation of the Smoking Text. Did you intend to show these rectangle shapes? I think they'll fade away with a different blend mode. I would make one tweak to the design. For consistency, I would have the orange text and smoke together on bottom and the grey text and smoke together on top. The blurring of the text looks solid.
#challenge - Color a Painting - FUN!!! Is there a way in Discord to show all of the Monster images together to see all of the variations? I think that would be WIKKED KEWL! 😉
@silent portal Splendid work on the retouching. Your new version looks totally untouched and natural. I especially like that you left most of the natural skin tones untouched. Really good work.
@runic gust Its awesome that youre learning and having fun at the same time, tho I must say Im not surprised! Good work on your retouching. Your version looks natural, clean crisp. I would have liked to see a little more of the natural skin tones, but thats personal preference. I agree that it looks darker, tho i dont jnow why it should. if you wanted to add a levels adjustment layer, go for it.

@tiny monolith Very nice work on the Lighting Effects. The model blends into the BG. The tinting you added to the model looks good. I think you can ease up a bit on the tinting on the right side of the face. It looks a bit too strong for the amount of purple tint coming from that direction.
@hearty gale OOOH I like your Alien. The mix of natural and green skin is intriguing. The liquify looks solid. The scaling texture is well done all around. One tweak, I would have added a slight green color overlay to the BG to add more cohesion with the BG.

@tacit condor Very well done retouching. The model's skin looks clean, clear, natural. You left the natural skin tones in place. Cool. And you changed the eye color. Neat touch.

Challenge 7 - Retro Comic Graphics. I found this task challenging today. Using the "Colour Halftone Pixelate" clearing the white part with "Magic Wand Tool" only cleared two thirds and then using the paint function didn't have the desired effect that was demonstrated. But apart from that I enjoyed using the gradient overlays and the shape (when I eventually found it in the legacy section). To add to the "oldish" effect I added the crumpled paper texture supplied.
Thank you for the feedback @eternal mica . I hope I can remember all these nuggets of advice.

@jade imp My mistake, I forgot to mention the Tolerance (setting at the top) was set at 30, I'm not sure what your number is at. It's also set to Point Sample though I don't imagine that was the issue you were having. I'm not sure what issue you had with the painting, if the halftone layer was set to the Multiply blending mode, had "Lock Transparencies" checked with the white background deleted it should work the same way. This came out really well though, the gradients and halftone texture are all looking really solid. I like the background gradient as well, nice work!
@sudden mango Hah, I love it. The Whoooooa is perfect, I can hear it in my head. Glad you're joining us, welcome on in! This design is looking great and the color scheme is looking solid. The R2D2 drawing really helps push that comic book feel, and the addition of the paper texture is a really nice touch. Nice job!
@eternal mica Oooh, this is looking great! All the shapes and halftone textures add a lot to the style. The font choice works really well for this design too I like the way you layered all these different elements. The paper texture is a really nice touch and give the whole thing a more tangible look. Looks good!
@quiet ridge Nice, very cool to see you playing around with combining techniques from different challenges together along with the animated aspects. Nice work!
@queen aspen Nice job with the hue variation between the cooler greens and warmer yellows on this! I like the blue color of the eye which adds some nice cool temperature contrast. 👍

@deep mango Very nice work! If I didn't see the before image I wouldn't be able to tell that any edits were made, everything looks really natural. Nice job with this technique.
@wary swan This is looking good! Nice job with all these shapes, and the orange/blue color scheme between the text and background is working well. The halftone pattern is looking solid and the background pattern you made has a cool look to it. Nicely done.
@quiet fern Hah, it's good, you can always ease back on any elements but it's good to know about all the possibilities. Really nice job with the layer styles on these shapes and the action lines are looking good too. The halftone patterns add a great comic feel to all of it.
@livid bough Glad to hear it! This is looking good, nice job with all these different techniques. The halftone texture and color gradients are working well. The grain and aged look came out nicely too.
@hollow yarrow Great take on this challenge! I love the addition of the stars, gives it a nice sense of action and movement. The color scheme is working really well and the overlapping letters is a nice touch that adds some great depth. I feel like I could imagine this being an animation for a mobile game or something, very cool!
@velvet lintel Nice, great job with all the different techniques in this challenges! The halftone texture is looking great, and I like how it's a bit bolder on the text. It has a nice aged look to it and the paper texture helps push that too.
@hearty quiver Looking good, I like the gradients in this design! The action lines and background pattern add a nice sense of action. I notice that the halftone texture is showing up on the the stroke of the text a bit, I'm not sure if you set the blending mode to Multiply but that could fix that if you wanted. Nice work!
@last mica Very cool, I like how much you pushed the proportions with the liquify tool in this design. The head shape looks great, and the masking on the head texture is working very well. Nicely done.
@junior ibex Hah, badaboom is a good word for this challenge I haven't seen yet. I really like the arch and sense of perspective on the text. Really cool to see two versions of this design too, it fits really well with the graphic style of the explosion. Nice job!
@topaz vine Great job with all the retouches on this! The skin looks really clean and natural but she still has all her freckles and everything. Really nice job on both the color and texture adjustments. 👍
@lost helm Glad you liked it! There was definitely a lot of steps in this one and you really nailed it. The boldness of the stroke on the text looks great and you nailed the graphic action lines. Very nice work on the aged look too, definitely has a sort of classic comic book feel.
@halcyon current Loving the bold color contrast on this! The drop shadow on the shape makes for a really nice strong graphic style, and I like your take on the action lines. Really nice work on the halftone texture too, it's fairly subtle yet adds a classic comic book look to it. Nicely done!
@frail ice Loving this style! And that's great to hear, there was a lot of steps in this one so I'm glad it wasn't too jumbled and confusing. Really liking the colors in this, the blue text contrasts really nicely against the background. The hand/camera is a great addition and fits with the style of all these designs very well. Great work
@copper moss Really cool take on this challenge, very much digging this style. Cool to see B&W style and how it still has a very classic look to it. Great job with the halftone textures and the radial lines!
@last mica Loving the boldness and arch to the text in this! The gradients and halftone textures are looking good, and I like the addition of the star and lightning graphics. My only suggestion would be that you could scale up and position the halftone texture so it fills the canvas to avoid that hard edge on the right and bottom side. Great job with these techniques.
@silent portal You nailed this Day 7 challenge! Really nice job with these techniques, I really like the boldness of your action lines. The aged look with the faded contrast and colors is also working really well to sell that vintage style. Nicely done!
@quiet fern Excellent job with the portrait retouching challenge! All the edits look really nice and natural with the texture you maintained in the cheek. Great job with the coloration too, wouldn't even be able to tell what was done without the before image. Very nice!

Thanks for taking the time for the response @bleak fossil . As everyone has different settings and defaults you can't be expected to go through every setting/value and fit the presentation in the timeframe. I will work on it again though using your advice.
