@gentle pasture Nice job with the Controlling Light & Shadow challenge! I like the Sky Replacement you added to this one. In terms of matching contrast a bit more, I'd try lightening the darks of the plane in the background to fade it back more, and boosting the dark tones of the figure on the left so his contrast is a bit stronger to match the person behind him.
@gentle pasture The compositing for the Magic Brush challenge is looking good! I like the variety of "texture" you got with the shapes you created for the magic effect, nice job with the glow too!
Thanks Sam 👍🏽

Double exposure effect. Any feedback welcome 😃
Thanks a lot, Sam for a wonderful DCC in October 2022! Though I did this in Ai.
Thanks. As I’ve done more painting in traditional mediums I’ve noticed an improvement in the value structure of all my work. 🙂

Photo Manipulation 101 with Ruben Cespedes
I don't understand what you mean with the background?
DDCC 2022-1#4 Photography & Blending Modes
By creating a background from several images
Do you know what this background is from? It looks like you don't, this is Mont Saint-Michel in France that build start was year 708. Saint Michel is one of the Archangels how had a battle with the devil.
DDCC 2022-1#5 Photoshop Quick Tips from the top Selections: I used the Magic Wand Tool to this image and Select and Mask Refine Hair and Refine edge brush. Next row Change Color Adjustment tool Hue/saturation. Next: Dual tone Adj Tool Gradient Map, The las row Winter Landscape Neural Filter but I don't like the result the filter something has happen with Neural filter in PS 2023 the resukt was better in the PS 2022 version.
You haven’t understood my point. To make better arts it’s better to use multiple images to create the background
Most backgrounds is on image or color everything else is a composition, in my image is it the dark image of the castell, nothing more. This is Merriam-Webster definition of background: the scenery or ground behind something.
If you will use multiple images or colors like a gradient is it a composition of the background is up to you, that will not say it's a better art, it's up to the artist.
It is the same as your background is that you a born on one place and you hade two parents how created you then they make love, not multiple places or parents. In this above you have two scenery, place and make love.

Challenge Five
@tropic garnet Very nice, I like the way you matched the color and contrast of all the different elements so well for Challenge 5! The overlapping shapes and composition is working nicely too.
@quiet fern Very nice job with the Challenge 3 design! I like the contrast of the brush strokes against the clean, solid color background. It really helps give the whole thing a clear read, and the drop shadow is a nice touch. Nice job on the shadow between the strokes too. I can also see what you mean about the Baroque wave look it has, cool style!
@tropic garnet Really cool effect for the Double Exposure challenge! I like the way the texture almost looks like it could be some sort of tattoo or some design on the body. Really interesting style to this design.
@quiet fern Really nice work with the Text and Photography challenges! I like how you tried out all the different methods, really nice job with the masking in these designs. I also like how you came up with your own captions for all these in Italian. Very nice!
@plain sable Glad to hear it! Challenge 4 is looking good. I like the gradual fade between the two photos around the tips of the wings. Nice work!
@wary swan Great to see you trying out all these different techniques with the Selections 101 challenge! The masking on the hair is looking solid, and the color change of the car interior looks very realistic. Nicely done!
Thanks!

DCCs Combined. This squirrel was sitting on our fence out back eating a pumpkin flower. For the ducks and squirrel, I used Harmony neural filters and warm photo filters to match the background. The T-shirt is a combination of Stained Glass and Chrome from the Filter Gallery with an orange gradient added. Then I placed a stitching around the neck with the pen tool set on dashes and added a pattern and gradient. The squirrel's tail was the most difficult. I hope you feel the overall image is realistic. So much learning going on. Thank you for this opportunity! I really appreciate it!

I don't know but being disrespectful to other users will not be tolerated. Go do something constructive.
What can i do with 23 years old photoshop ?
You need to be more constructive and make maximal use of the tool you have, because that is not Photoshop how do the art it's you. You can also upgrade to a newer version of Photoshop. If I understand you right is it Photoshop 6.0 you have.

Hey guys! I just designed my art portfolio, and I need people to help me with constructive criticism.
I would highly appreciate if you guys could check it out!!
Work looks good. As far as the site your font selection is hard to read that font. Also have you considered categorizing your work so potential clients go to what they want to look at instead of having it all on the same page intermixed? There seems to be no order of the work you are displaying. All of this IMHO
You've got some great work! For a portfolio, I think you're trying to get too many things in there at once. Digital painting, 3D, graphic design, character design, logo design. It's very broad, and it's generally a good idea to keep portfolios narrow and specialized. It's great that you're doing all of these different creative things, but potential employers or clients don't need to see all of it. You don't have to show off the 3D house model you've created and the blender tutorial room. Stick to what you're best at or what you want to work with.
By the way, the font you use for titles. I love how it looks, but I agree with IndianKingCobra that it's a bit hard to read. You can definitely use it as an accent typeface, but it's a bit too stylized to be the primary typeface. I tried looking for it, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. It says it's called tkym, where did you get it?
Thank you sooo much!! I appreciate it a lot! 🫶🏻 I wanted to ask, bc in my case I’m doing this portfolio to enter to college. So in that case is it better to stick with specialized things or should I show many things
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @frosty current
I’ll tell you the exact name tomorrow when I wake up, but I got it from the Adobe fonts
It's sort of a logical fallacy that people automatically assume you're good at everything, if they know you're good at one thing. So by only showing off your best work, they will think you're much more skilled than you might be. I don't know what the college recommends applicants to do, but I don't think you should have everything on there either way. In fact, showing off projects where you followed a tutorial may hurt your application.
Do let me know about the font!
I'm guessing that's a graphic design course, right? Should stick to graphic design and maybe illustration, then.
I’m going for visual communication design
Ohh yes 🫣 That makes sense. I understand, thank you so much!!

Dang. I remember when we used to have to do this the hard way! With a complex layer mask that would drive you insane! :D
I'll have to get up-to-speed on the new jams. :)
@copper moss Nice effort with the tangled type. You might consider scaling up the type to fill in more of the canvas, and narrowing the width of the ribbon to better show the weaving effect going in and around more of the type.
I better not mention the cheater way that I used to do it 😁😎
@quiet fern Its great to be back. Nice work on both designs. I especially like the work you did enhancing the ribbons with the shadows and the trim color. One tweak I'd consider is to weave the ribbon into the capital E to give that text a bit more legibility. Good work.
@sterile berry Really well done, Daniel. The artboard looks great as a BG. Color palette is spot on. Your work on the interwoven string is beautiful. Im not sure the string in the BG helps or confuses the design. I'd love to see a version without it to see how it looks.
It's designed to confuse. :D

All ready off to a great start with these challenges! Here's my example for the Tangled Type challenge. I mentioned I would post my resources, so feel free to use these but I really do like seeing what everyone comes up with!
Adobe Stock image id for the ribbon is 28099416
The typeface is Viktor Script from Adobe Fonts
@copper moss Really liking the vibe of the shapes you added to get a holiday feel. Like that had fun with the font placement and really makes the eye move up and down through the word along with the ribbon. I do think the font choice leans towards sci fi which might take away from any holiday vibes you were going for. I would also look out for any letters being obscured too much from the ribbon. We probably all know this says photoshop, BUT if we didn't, the first O and the S might be an issue. Easy fix for the S would be to have end of the S pop out above the ribbon. Overall, good stuff!
@quiet fern Nicely done! Clean overall. The Elisheva (sp?) is leaning towards hard to read but I there's just enough to keep it legible. There's a fine balance there. I had the same issues with placing my ribbon :). The Weave is solid and I like the idea of taking the ribbon off the page, leads the eye in through the letters and right off the page.
@sterile berry Is this from March?!? You're always so far ahead of the curve!!! Nice work as always!
Yeah. Thanks! Sorry. That was my first "intertwine." I will work on a new one for this challenge.

Day 1 Typography. I did it the hard way in PS bc this is PS after all! 😁
Ha, not calling you out, just making a joke, BUT always happy to see more!
Oh this looks great! Well done. Bringing the e in Merry out in front of the ribbon really gives it some dimension. That m in Christmas is looking a little suspicious though as it just cuts through the ribbon. That curl looks like it was in unfortunate location. Could probably still bring the m out front and it would still work. Nice work!
I agree. The “m” is in an unfortunate spot for how the ribbon twists at the end. Luckily I have almost a month to perfect it! 🎄
Day 1 CC - Needs a bit more contrast. But that's all I have in me for this evening.
Day 1 - Tangled Type
"Give me some rope I'm coming loose..."😉
Attempted to add a bit more glowy/contrast.
Hi) Day 1CC
Thanks! I left the ribbon in gradient wide because it is special. Did some tweaking on the last type in addition. The bottom 2 in hue/sat to give other color variation.
Wow! Adjusments really improve your piece. Glowing effect gives a nice touch and bighter text pops more! Great job!
Lovely! You did a great work to intertwine the ribbon with the letters. Adding a tie is a really smart idea! The only thing I might suggest you is : try to add shadows on ribbon where it passes under letters (as you did on letters where ribbon passes over)... Nicely done!
Awesome! Great sense of depth given by shadows, layer Fx on the text and the second rope under the text... An other masterpiece Daniel! 💯
Well done! Shadows give a nice depth to yours ribbons. Intertwine effect looks convincing. Great work!👍
Already in Xmas mood Kevin? Well done! I love the overlapping effect of the "e"... If I had to nitpick the ribbon masking on "t" and "m" look a bit weird for me... Anyway, you did a great job!👍
Haha, yup. The day after Thanksgiving is “officially” Christmas. 😬.
I agree. This ribbon was a bit tough to pull-off. It didn’t help that the original stock image was black. Maybe I’ll give-in and use Ai?

Challenge 02: Auto Align | Photoshop Foundations Challenge. I have learned a lot on how to blend images and auto align images. I did blending of these two images. It created a mask on the main image, so I masked the house into view and did this composition. And did type masking. The bg pattern was copied from Ai into Ps. Thanks a lot, Wade!
#challenge - Tangled Type - one more 😉
Day 2 CC - Auto Align. I followed the video step by step and I liked the idea of the waterways all being transparent to show the wood grain. I used Select Color Range and reduced the fuzziness to very low so that it just selected the waterways, then filled them with black in the mask. That left the question of what to do with the lettering to make it work so I had some fun with it. Here are a few options I came up with. I also tried placing the text options over the regular map.

Challenge 03: Silhouette Illustration. Wade did a sudden u-turn by adding an image into the composition. Thanks for brushes. I used clumpy. That was an inspirational dcc. Thanks!
Nice changes! Every letter reads really well now.
Looking good! The removal of the waterways does give it an interesting texture. Almost reads as an aged or torn map until you look closer, very cool. With the outline on "unexplored" I almost want to move it all within the frame of the map or pushed more intentionally out of frame. Right now it's on the edge and adding uneasy tension. If it were done in other places, it might be balanced, but looks more like a mistake than a decision as it is now.
Clumpy!!! Thanks for the kind words! I did pull a fast one at the end, but I think it works. 🙂
As for your images, I like that you made it your own! Did you use the PS tree render feature at all? I do see a few leaves hanging out. Also looks like your reversed the silhouette idea? In a silhouette, images in the foreground are usually rendered darker due to being back lit. In this case, the mid ground/background is darker. Almost losing your wolf due to that as well. A lighter background would definitely highlight your wolf in this case.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @copper moss
That's cool! Very nice custom map and I like the type and phrase. I might would find a way to add a bit more contrast around the type just for legibility reasons. Looks great!
You def made your own path with this one! Snow shoes!?!
Ha, I almost use that phrase as an example! Well done. A few things I might tweak:
- Color harmony. I do like the pop of color but maybe sampling the blue tones (or something similar) towards the bottom of your underlying texture to use for the cyan waterways could help the two (map and background) feel connected.
- The shadow could maybe be a bit softer, or lose it all together?
- Looks the like the cyan waterways aren't cut out with the type. They run over the type.
I was wondering about the shadow hmm . I added the cyan after I did the type maybe I should have done it before hand. I'll go fix it. Thank you for the feedback!

Correct. I was inspired by the miserable weather outside. 😆
Festive! No trouble reading this with everything going on. Starting to lose the string of lights hanging on "merry." Well done!
Good idea. thank you!
Whoa! Nice looking image! Clean! I'm not sure what the story is, but I'm interested.
Nice idea with the semi transparent ribbon! I like that there's a hue shift on the overlap portions as well. Also keeps the type nice and legible!
I can make that happen, thanks for the feedback! 😌🙏🏽
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @slender juniper
Oh, this worked out well. Classy even. I think you could even bring up the ampersand to match the other type and it would work even better.
Thanks, yeah you are right. Be BOLD!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @slender juniper
Hi! I think you did a good job keeping this legible. It can be trick with a thick ribbon and bow like this one. I can tell the ribbon isn't as crisp throughout, but that's probably from mask issues. Overall well done!
Franck rides again! This is looking great! Love all the "intertwining" going with the rope and the letters. One small thing, it looks like the type isn't all on the same angle, and if that's intentional, I would say exaggerate it to make it more intentional. Right now they're sort of close to the same angle not sure if it's a decision or a mistake. I do like the idea of the rope and letters intertangled are holding the type together. Nicely done!
Off to a great start! This is looking nice and clean. I really like seeing the ribbon peeking through the texture type.
I had so much fun with the first challenge of this week so I had to make another one. It's a part of Challenge 2 & 3 too 😉

Challenge 03: City Panorama. My first version with nature images did not turn out good so I did from city panorama.
Really liking these! This method does work well with cityscapes. Think you'll try the animation? I think it would look great with this panorama.
PS Challenge 04 - Fantasy Panorama - 12.01.22
I might revisit this to add a few more landmarks. Could be fun or could get too crowded. Only one way to find out. 🤔
Day 4 CC - Fantasy Panorama
I didn't spend any time compositing pictures together but I did spend quite a bit of time making the two ends of the image match. I used a Levels layer with a mask over it so that it only applied to one end of the image, then I also painted in some dark fuzzy strokes at each end with a big, soft brush. My main problem was that every time I applied Polar Coordinates, there was what appeared to be a transparent line at one end of the image, even after I'd cropped it in to remove any transparent edges. In the end I fixed it by putting a dark layer behind the pic, selecting it with the pic, and making it all one smart object. (Writing this stuff down here so I don't forget what I did more than anything else...) I didn't separate out the skyline from the sky, so you can see the edges of the square image in the rotation at some stages, but I ran out of energy 🙂 This was fun, I learnt a lot.
Day 4 Challenge - Spaceball. Apologies for the animation, my computer took forever to just render that
You have to download to watch. (Maybe because I am using older version). In panorama city colors went dull so I fix it via selective colors: red, blue and green (blacks in red and blue to zero, green´s black to vice versa). Panorama with 2 landscapes caused maybe of too big file size? I could not distort in polar coordinate as it was grey. I will try to make again such for myself make it clear. Thanks, Wade!

Challenge #3
Challenge #2 - Auto Align - I used a couple of screenshots from Google Maps to show you all my hometown.
Challenge 05: LinkedIn Banner Image. Let´s chat.
PS Challenge 05 - LinkedIn Banner Image - 12.02.22
I imagine the copy to be something along these lines. "achat perfumes and cologne - Start a conversation, let's chat."
I like the smoooooth blending of spots. That worked out well! Chat stacked on top of Let's might be confusing. Nice bottle shape! The lighter part of the gradient is making your "chat let's" harder to read.
Ok, this is fun! If you didn't want your wolves distorted you could just add them after you've made your sphere through the polar coordinates method. You could place them around your world and then make a smart object out of all of them and then animated them just like the landscape. That way they would be distorted. Honestly, I thought they were donkeys for a half second, and now I kind of want them to be donkeys. 🙂
lol That is the way I did it. The wolves are a separate layer and a smart object, I just didn't make them big enough. I struggled with this one a lot. but in the end it turned out just barely ok. Thank you for the feedback. 😅
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @slender juniper
Hi Jillian! Well done!
I've had the same issue with edges appearing seemingly out of nowhere. I've always been able to solve by trimming (not cropping) everything before creating the polar coordinates effect. You mentioned "crop" specifically, so make sure you're actually eliminating the excess with trim. It should work. In any case, it turned out great! I could really see this with a starry sky.
Interesting, they looked squished, as if they were there when you changed the image size. I was saying to add them after that step, so you could place them individually and unsquished. Just a thought.
Anything particular that you struggled with? I'm happy to help!
Oh very cool, I really like this treatment. The texture under the map sets this one off for me. Liked that you kept the bridges as well. Well done!
Animation and I just don't seem to get along. lol It was fighting me on every little thing until I told it "I'm going to throw you out in the snow!" lol I also had a hard time getting the canvas size right, but I finally got that figured out. I really appreciate your feedback because it helps me learn and correct any "bad habits" I may have developed.
That's no MOON!
Kind of hard to see in the vid because of the artifacts, but I do like the variety of objects in the still image. In this case, I might would emphasize separating the objects from the landscape surface through contrast, scale, and color to help them stand out a bit more. Really like the idea!
Ah I see. I did download to watch it. Looks like there wasn't any keyframe interpolation (the rotation jumped from point to point) for some reason? Not sure what happened there. The image looks cool though and def on track.
This is nice, very subtle color palette. I almost want a little more contrast in the type. Maybe even just making the water areas slightly darker would help. Looks good, thanks for sharing!

If I squint at the thumbnail, it almost reads as a photo. I think the colors work well together. Some odd banding throughout. Not sure if that's compression from the file type or not. Otherwise, looks good.
@slender juniper not sure what you mean about the odd banding? In the sky?
Day one: Tangled Type. Doing catch up as always.
Day three Silhouette Illustration. Still working on the day two concept. So I figured why not do something else...
PSDCC_LinkedIn Banner Image Day 5
By banding, I meant the areas like this (I highlighted a few edges) where there's not a smooth transition between colors. Sometimes caused by working at low bit depth. Usually noticeable with 8 bit images with gradients. Can also be caused by compression types when saving as a gif or a low quality jpeg. This doesn't look like any of those really.
Hahaa yes totally agree. It's a bit of a disaster. 0 contrast!! Ugh. But I learned a lot, and version 2 will be much better, and I will use my big computer to complete a better video. The lap top just can't cut it.
Day 5 - LinkedIn Banner version 1
I might make some changes, marketing yourself is challenging. Looks like its working well enough for both desktop and mobile.
Yes, you did good tips. Now it is banner for the parfum fragrance "uchat". First I did lines and the bottle. Then I added hearts made in Ai. Tremendously thanks!
Yes, I will try to do animation on iPad a bit later. I have seen Voodoo doing animation on Fresco. I started using Fresco and Photoshop doing. Thanks a lot, Wade! 🤝

2 versions of the same design... One with "desert" color theme an the other colorized with homemade gradient map.
I like the concept. Expressive, I say. They are as good as storytelling. How did you decide on this concept?
I am MISSING DCC 💢 💢💢🥹😭
Keep on, guys!
Ah ok. Wanted to make sure that wasn't an unwanted result.
This turned out great!
Very nice! I prefer the one with the slight vignette. Digging the grain as well.
Thanks for your comment.
I'm a big fan of movie posters and in movie poster design "Silhouettes" are often used as container... I just reproduced this concept (I didn't invent anything😉 ).
I decided to replace Wade's montains by futuristic cityscape. I used snap shots from the movie to extract shapes of the character (one used as container and the other for the silhouette)...

@hollow yarrow The gradient map adds tremendous oomph to the design. It looks awesome.
Day 6
Download to watch. I used my 3D illustration made in Ai brought them to Ps into frame animation. Thanks.
Challenge #4 - Fantasy Panorama - I went my own way here and used my surroundings with sea and small islands. I remember from the chat that some of us talked about rotating the sky the other way than the "island" and I did just that but had to do it in 4 parts of 90° instead of 2 of 180° or else it rotated in the same direction. I also had to cut down pretty much on the time and the size to get under the limit.
PS Challenge 06 - Animated Type- 12.05.22
Sharing my example from the Animated Type challenge. There so much more you can do with animation in PS btw. I would think of this as very much a starter challenge in working with animation concepts. If you're looking to get into After Effects, this is a glimpse into some of the ways AE works and handles keyframing.
Both of these looks just great @hollow yarrow
Nice @compact pecan I can almost hear the sound too 🤩
PS Challenge 07 - Isometric Map - 12.06.22
This example has a vignette layer, and the underlying map layer uses an overlay layer blend mode. I also painted in a deeper shadow on the castle. These were a few things we didn't have time for during the stream. If you add these, make sure you merge everything down to one layer before adding any blur effects to incorporate the entire image. Most importantly, have fun with it.
I like that! Might be fun to add the parallax effect (in this case, the foreground moving faster than the background) to this one. Windmills moving slower than the landscape. Could add some extra depth. I wanted to do that with my mountain layer but there wasn't time.
I understand the size limit for sharing is an issue, so thanks for sizing it down and sharing!

Challenge #6 - Animated type - I like the video better than the gif animation as some of the effects in the video-timeline gets lost when converting over to frame animation. Here are both of them.
welcome))
Really beautiful @copper moss
Santa Claus is coming to town! The white letters have a red dissolve layer on top. I tried different colors for each letter, gradients, patterns but nothing worked. I decided to keep it simple. Can you see Santa tapping his boot? Stars flash, too. Thank you for this opportunity! Since before Thanksgiving, my PS was running super-dooper slow. Adobe Tech guys said perhaps it was the new update. Weirdest thing, all is good now. Not sure what the problem was but I'm so happy to have the opportunity to create!!
Hi. I started laughing before I pushed the play button. The Windy City! I could already visualize what was about to happen. Hilarious! Beautiful colors, great layout, Stunning to watch. Thanks for sharing!

Nicely done!
Text animation turned out great...Sometimes simple is enough😉 Love the subtle Stars's opacity animation on the background. Great job!
Love the idea of Jumping letters! It fits well with the text👍
Awesome! The way you cut the landscape gives a great sense of relief, tent and firecamp add a nice point of interrest (nitpick comment: you might add add the tent's long shadow to mimic shadows of the landscape),the cliff textures of the sides and long shadow are on the point. Flares and background add a nice touch.
Great job!🤩

Day 6 Animated Type
I really went down a wild road with challenge #6
Day 8 Challenge (NOT SPONSORED)
Catch up mode, again.
challenge #7 was a challenge for me
I like that you added your own element to this as well as a few curves to the edges for interest. The tent is a nice edition, but I might would try to adjust the colors and match the shadows from the tree line to help blend it in to the scene a bit more. Also the scale seems to be off for the tent as well if you're going for a realistic look. BUT otherwise, you could scale it up to really skew reality and go for a more stylized approach.
The addition of the sun or glowing orb is interesting. It's almost reading like a lens flare instead of light source. I think if we saw the rays from out of frame, it might appear more as a light source instead of just an additional light.
Looks good! I see what you mean about the video having more nuance before converting to a frame animation. You could extend (copy the frames) the animation in the PS timeline to make a longer loop for a longer video as well. Good stuff!
Glad PS is working fine for you now, I know those struggles can be frustrating.
Yes, I can see the foot tapping! Nice.
This is quite a frantic pace, and I'm into it. Could try an option with more spacing between the frames for a slower animation, but this works too. Well done!
Challenge 09: Cross Stitch Art. It was soothing and captivating before Christmas holidays. There are enough tricks in dcc also. Thanks!
YES! That face! So that shape was supposed to be a nose in the example, but I guess I didn't explain that. 🤣 This is perfect! Looks great! I also like the diagonal white line detail. Almost makes everything shiny. Where did that come from?
Thanks, Wade! Yes, I will improve my tent and some other from previous dcc. The gnome is from Finland and there many of them, some have gone in the sledges to other parts of the world to the celebration. 🦌
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @slender juniper
Liking this festive take on the challenge. I almost missed the reindeer poking out of the landscape. Because they were white like the rest of the landscape, I thought they were scenery too. IF you wanted them to stand out as reindeer, I would make sure to add a contrast if not a color to help them stand out.
It's a tough call though because I do like the all stark white paper cut out look.
Hey everyone, it's been a while but here's my isometric map 😄
I like the ambition and the concept here. Very bold color choices, that sky is electric! Is that tree made with the Render>Tree feature in PS? Looks like it could have been.
The waterfall isn't quite working here but I really like the idea. Could maybe use a waterfall image and composite that in for effect. I also like the tree roots idea but it starts to get confusing as it continues past the edge. The various birds are a nice touch. Looks like you were having fun, and glad to see it!
Ha, I'd join this party! The drips are really setting a tone here. Be safe out there! Well done.
Oh! I painted this for an event last year and decided to use it for this challenge.
Nice animation, but let's talk for minute. Are those tiny wolf pups sliding down the slopes?!? 🤣 That's brilliant!!!
Looks like your a in play might have an unwanted transparency animation.
This is so fun, thanks for sharing!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @visual pelican
Thank you. Yeah that waterfall looks really bad! lol I think I might have put the tree roots a bit too far past the edge. Yes the tree is from Render>Tree in PS.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @slender juniper
OH very nice! Festive overload! I can almost hear the song with the letters popping in. Did you work over the top of an existing gif, or make this from a video with type over the top? Interested in your process. Well done!
Oh nice! Glad to see people using the trees in PS. 🙂
Yes the wolf pups are sliding down the slope. What youngster doesn't slide down a snowy slope? lol If I was more comfortable with animation I wanted to have them moving, but (sigh) I am not very good (yet).
Thanks, Wade! Free video from Adobe stock with animation overlay, rendered, and then set in a new background. I was experimenting with overlaying videos for TT purposes and figured this was a great way to challenge myself with animation.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @slender juniper
Nice quote! Where's that from? Well, you turnt up the lighting on this one. Interesting choice. It does start to confuse the shadow source a bit. I know it's a style choice, but could have been interesting to see the shadows come forward towards us since it looks like it's behind the land cube (is that we should call it?) I like that tilt shift effect. Good stuff!
Ha perfect! I say try to animate it and see what happens. 🙂
I'll work on it. thank you for the encouragement!

This is great! Liking the font pairing and sparkles!
What do you think of this? Does the cross-stitch effect sell? I can envision a border and/or some holly or snowflakes in the upper right corner. But, alas, I am out of time! (As I so often am with Photoshop1)
@slender juniper I see you're on. Maybe you can help with a brush problem I've been having?
My brushes only fill about 75% of the area included in the preview outline. I've reset my brushes, restarted Photoshop, and restarted my computer. Any ideas?
Looks good. I'd would lose the soft white blur if possible. Maybe use a light background or change the type color. It becomes a bit more distracting with everything already going on with the ribbon and type.
OH yeah, I think it works just fine. I would bump the contrast overall. Good job! I like this pun too.
Ah, this is cool! Like the falling notes.
For some reason the animation doesn't loop? Would also like to see the notes completely leave frame. Two of the seem to stop right at the bottom. Looks good though, keep rocking it!
This is giving me Van Gogh's Starry Night vibes. Very cool. Was there an animate version?
Ha nice! You should share this with Ryan. Get out of here with "mistle-toast" that's perfect!
Nice font pairing. I might try go larger with JOIN US to align the date. OR maybe align match the width of all the type in red and leave the green type organic. Just a few options.
Did you squash the blue type? If so, I would avoid that where possible. Fonts are usually designed to work in their original form factor. There some variable fonts out there that make a few exceptions, but it will make the type less reader friendly if adjusted in this way too much. The font choice on the bottom is also bit hard to read too. But I'd still attend if invited to this party. 🤣
Thanks Wade. haha I did share it with Ryan.

No I didn't squish the type, I selected, contracted then did a gradient. I didn't like the way the stroke in fx looked. I probably should have chosen a better font for the bottom text .
It is a bit of a challenge for sure. Looks like you got the isometric water cube working well enough. I think the structure needed to be more of an aerial photo for it to composite well. But good job!
@slender juniper do you remember the file # for the background you used on todays design? I'm not able to find one that looks good.

Ah ok, just wanted you to know that manipulating type can lead to hard to read type if it goes against the design of the font. I think the bottom font would be fine for a one or two word title or header for sure.
Thank you for letting me know. I've learned a lot from you!

I'm liking the misty mountains here. Interesting having the trees visible and not as a silhouette. Almost makes it look like the hiker is in the shadow of a mountain instead of being backlit. Using a brush with a taper might help with the grass. Well done!

I think the composite is really working for the isometric landscape! I only wish it were a bit larger in the frame so we could enjoy it more. The shadow doesn't match the iso photo shadows, but not too distracting.
The background isn't really working for me. It's a fun idea but I think it distracts too much from the isometric landscape.
This looks good, especially the photo choices and composite. Good job!
Hey! Nice!
Thank you!

Found Kyle's snow brushes! 🤩 Tried to paint a snowbank for the letters to sit in, but I'm not a painter, so I spent an embarrassing amount of time on it. In the end it looked terrible unless held at arm's length and viewed with a forgiving eye.... What do you think of the snowflakes?
Funny how I instantly see a problem the moment it loads. The dark corners look burnt instead of aged. Oh well. That's a Saturday problem.
Ooh, nice one! Love the colors scheme and original take.
The edges are still the original blocks of color so revealing some of the stitch edges might help this look more like cross stitch.
I think I like this one the best! It has the most contrast and is clearly defined. The snowflakes version you posted also works ok, but the snowflakes don't have the crisp cross stitch effect, so they don't match the rest of the image as well.
You’re right. The snowflakes would have to be given the same treatment as the gnome. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback Wade, yes there are the images is from Sweden Jamboree 2007 insouthern Sweden I was in the staff with my son, we was builders, build the big tents that tock about 100 person each.. The 360 deg panorama have 15 images, so I have only 15 frams with 30 deg angle between each frame I think it culd be smoter if I make 15 deg angle instead that will 30 frames. Nice! If you were going for a cross stitch look, it's not quite there only because of the blending of colors (antialiasing). It does look like a cross stitch effect applied on top, and it does make for a cool derivative of that look.

Hello everyone! Hope you all had a good holiday break and New Year!
@chrome mango Very nice job with this technique! The gradient between the hazy effect and the more in focus area is looking good. I might make the nose a little less in focus, and keep the focus on the eyes. Currently my eyes go to the nose first as the sharpest point of contrast. You could even increase the value contrast of the eyes a bit if you wanted to make them an even stronger focal point. Looks good!
@jade needle Very cool, did you design the UI of this image as well, or is that just context for the image? Either way the image looks good and fits in with the surrounding design nicely. The design around the title text gives it a nice, elegant feel.
Nooo i actually shared this in the wrong server i knew i had shared it somewhere but i guess i missed it

@eternal mica Hey Ted! Good to see you again and back at the challenges. Nice job with the beveled effect around the edge of the shape and the color gradients. Though it might be nice to see a bit more of that beveled shadow around the bottom, it seems to be most apparent at the top. Looks good 👍
@jolly quest Really liking the different color schemes! I especially like the “6” with it’s strong color temperature contrast. These are super cool!
@copper moss Very nice! You made the brush for that texture on the blue area? It definitely reads as ice, well done! Really nice depth on that logo design too. The yellow border makes for some nice color contrast in this design too. Looks good!
@tropic knoll Really glad to hear these challenges are helping! Also very cool to see you doing different designs and applying what you’ve learned to your own idea. Really nice job with the gradients and reflective design in the overall shape. Both of these designs have a really nice clear read to them with the strong contrast in values. Nicely done!
Thanks Sam. I agree with your point. I forgot how to apply the bevel effect only to the bottom of the smaller shape.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @bleak fossil
@tropic knoll Great texture in the needlepoint design, it really sells the effect that way. I like how the gradients look in this style too. My only nitpick suggestion might be to separate the values of the arrow and hearts a bit more to give the arrow a bit of a stronger read where it overlaps the hearts. Very nice work!
@chrome mango Nice design, I like the uniform color palette you chose for this. The font pairing seems to be working together nicely as well. I like how the text at the top gives this a sort of magazine cover appearance. The shape with “New Season” kind of gives me a UI button feeling, though I’m not sure if that was the intent. Nice job!
@tropic knoll Really nice idea with the dolphin cross stitch design! I really like the sort of soft pastel color palette, all the colors work well together. The layering of the shapes works nicely too, well done!
@chrome mango Cool variety of styles with the Dynamic Word Marks designs! They all have a unique style to them, and I really like the depth of the design in the top left. Very nice!
@tired turret Very nice animation! Happy New Year to you too!
@chrome mango Hah, always fun to see people doing this challenge, loving the little robot character! My only suggestion is that this whole image has colors that are all a fairly similar value range. Maybe increasing the contrast between the lightest and darkest tones of the robot, and/or changing the background to contrast even more (maybe darkening the robot overall and lightening the background overall) could help give it a stronger read. Just a thought. Nice job with all of these designs!
@plain sable Very cool! Always excited to see what people come up with for that challenge. Nice job with the glows on this, and I like the colorful galaxy as the backdrop for these jellyfish. Kind of a galactic jellyfish feel to it. Looks good!
@compact pecan Very nice Kevin! I like the cool/warm colors shifts with the purple and oranges. Nice job getting that shiny chrome effect, and I like how the H has a slightly smoother look texture wise than the rest of the shape.
thanks @bleak fossil it was a fun challenge

@young karma Hello! If you’re looking for feedback for designs unrelated to the Photoshop Challenges it’d be best to share them in the #📝project-feedback section or #🎨share-your-work-archive
@halcyon current Really cool, nice job with the texture and the perspective of the image in the TV. This might just be me being nitpicky because I'm really sensitive to perspective as someone who draws it all the time, but the perspective of the TV looked off to me. I checked and noticed all the lines are parallel and I think it might make it look a touch more natural if you have the lines converging ever so slightly. In perspective, all parallel lines will converge to a common vanishing point. I made some guide lines on pushing the lines inward slightly, but you could probably go even further than that, whatever looks good to you. I like the color contrast in this design too, it really helps the image in the TV stand out.
@compact pecan Nice job on the box, the texture and shadow within the box are giving it some nice depth! It seems as though your perspective might be backwards though. Sets of parallel lines should converge together as they move away from the camera, it seems yours almost separate a little. Here's a example of what might look a bit more realistic. Just a suggestion of course.
@deep mango Very nice! I like the color scheme on this. Some nice color contrast between the cools and warms, and I like the look of a somewhat pastel color palette combined with shiny chrome like effect. Nice texture too 👍
Here are a few more attempts at challenge one
@normal gale Great to see all these different designs from you, you're really nailing the effect! Really cool to see this on the Zelda graphic and how it works on a more complex shape. Really nice colors and sense of form on all of these!
@visual pelican Cool shape to try this chrome icon on, the texture is looking good! It might help to keep the gradient a bit more gradual and smooth and not add as many highlights/circle areas of shine all over in the inside of the shape, but it really just depends what you're going for. I like the sort of texture it creates around the top of the shape. Good work, the color contrast adds some nice depth to this.
@plain sable Really neat texture to this, it almost gives it a sort of watercolor look and feel. Nice work with this graphic, all the shapes have a clear read to them and have a nice sense of form with the light and shadow. Looks good!
Thanks @bleak fossil

Thank's Sam, the are not perfect but all the practice has helped me learn a lot.
@copper moss Cool to see you combining different software into this challenge. Nice work with the perspective of both the box and wall in the environment. It might help to give the box different values of brightness for each side to sell the sense of 3D more. Not sure if there's supposed to be a top or if that's an opening in the box, but a bit of value could help give it some more form. I like to use Multiply layers to darken down sides. Here's a quick example.
@wary swan Always great to see how much work you put into all these challenges, and always cool to see them all organized together into a project. Very nice work, lots of techniques covered in all of these!
@warm stone Very cool, great to see you taking multiple passes at this challenge! I think the second design definitely has a strong look to it, the smooth gradients and value contrast really helps with that. Very nice work with the bevel effect too!
@chrome mango Very nice, I like the layout of your color palette and setup for this design. The effect might be a bit more clear if you had a stronger value contrast between the shapes within the circle. Currently the purple mountains and red sky are very similar in value, and a strong value contrast is really important in any sort of chrome-like effect. I'd try darkening the mountain shape and brightening the sky and see if that helps. Just a suggestion of course. Good job!
@hollow yarrow Ooh, loving it! Good to see some new Franck designs for 2023. I love how this feels like a style for an ad you might see from that time period. You really nailed the chrome feel with that strong value contrast and the highlights really help sell it even more. Great to see the variety between these color schemes! Hard to pick a favorite. Maybe the bottom right for me, that subtle purple/yellow is nice.
Challenge Day 02 - Really liked this challenge. I like how it simplified mockups. I hope to experiment with it more in the future.
As always, playing catch up! Day 1!
thank you. I'm taking notes.

My lil effort 😅
Thanks for your valuable feedback. I applied pattern to the top of the box for its consistency. Yes, I have Fresco+Photoshop on iPad (by the way I noticed that I cannot scale in Photoshop with my pen in masking mode of the layer - shall I do a report about it?). I wish if the great people add to Fresco mirroring and pattern making and others important! Then it would be a killing software. 😀
Thanks for the feedback Sam

DCC2 with VooDoo Val. Mock Ups. The lettering on the Chocolate Heart is three layers, shifted slightly. The font is Beloved Script Bold with B&E, 2 strokes and a Drop Shadow on all three layers. I did my best to draw out and paint a rose. Also, I hope you feel my illusion of celephane covering the Chocolate Heart is successful. There are hearts on the wallpaper, too. The heart itself is an actual piece of choclate. This was alot of fun! It’s cool that you need to actually create a separate rectangle instead of just copying the rectangle to another layer. Thank you for this opportunity!
Looks dope to me. Really nice.
Here are my pieces from Challenge 2!

WOW! You folks have really outdone yourselves! I'm gonna go hydrate and find a snack, then come back and take a closer look
Well done, Adobe Fam!
Thank you @bleak fossil for your feedback. It means a lot to me. I thought that there were something wrong with it and thought it might be the perspective but wasn't sure. Here is the remake of the TV.

Great mockups!
I love what you've done here @normal gale
Well done! I think you’ve really given those challenge your own flavor! Love the vibe of it all!
I would never have thought to make it a TV! Great idea. You’ve done a great job with the wood paneling there too. Nice work!
Love the box shape you chose! I also think the top box closure detail is great. If you end up testing something in dimension/stager, feel free to share! Thanks for joining me

WOAH!! Really impressed with the shape here! A tricky one for sure but you have done a wonderful job!
OOOHHH love the pattern! I might suggest making the shadows more dramatic the better separate the sides of the box. Aside from that I love your choices here. This is a fun one!
Nice work! Love the color choices here!
Yes! The little toy is such a nice touch! Great use of the cutout technique
Welcome to the challenge! Love how you have incorporated the effect into a graph design piece!
So glad you have enjoyed the challenge! I hope you will share any other experiments you do. This one is very well done! It really looks like a product! Working with mock-ups like this has been helpful for me as well. Understanding them so they don’t feel so daunting. I think it’s also useful to be able to make something from scratch, just in case you find yourself needing one but can’t find the right file or can’t buy one.
Ohh I love the 2023 set of chrome icons! And the triforce!! So cool!

I don't know if I call it chrome but I had fun while creating. I had troubles with the colors at first but then I got the idea of a sunrise over the sea and it made it. I'm happy now.
Challenge 04: Animation. I did fishes (not perfectly) in iPad then exported to Ps and did this. (I do not yet know to animate in iPad Fresco properly). I think I will layered each fish then try do motions iPad. Download to watch. Thanks!

Challenge 3 - It's a sad, sad story.
@paper shadow This is looking good! The color palette and shapes are looking good. It might help to have a bit more of a gradient on the lower yellow bottom shape to sell the effect a bit more and give it a bit more of a shine. Nice job!
@copper moss Very cool! Great to see you creating all these different assets between the fish and background layers. I like the watercolor-like background texture you created. It would be interesting to see the fish animated smoothly by keyframing the movement as opposed to the frame by frame sort of stutter step method. Cool either way, nice work!
@halcyon current Great job on the gradient! The strong value contrast really gives the whole thing some nice depth. I like the color contrast too between the warm and cool tones. It might even pop a bit more if you make the background a bit of a different color from the bottom of the letters. Nicely done!
@normal gale This looks great! I really like the whole series of the 3 events with this animation, definitely makes it feel complete. Great job with the color scheme too, I like the contrasting colors that the animation has to really make it stand out. Very nicely done!
@hollow yarrow Whoa, going all out with this one! Let’s plug these into Unity and get a game character going, hah. This is looking great, the character design works really well and I love how you did several different animations. Super cool, really interesting to see this kind of range from you in contrast to your other work. Excellent job!
@chrome mango Great colors with this arcade machine! I like the start menu idea for this animation, really cool idea. I’d only suggest choosing some colors with a bit more contrast for that screen. The gray background and text are a really similar value. I’d try referencing actual arcade game menus to see the colors and contrast they use to get a strong visual impact. The black against orange for the splat graphic works really well for example. Nice work!
@halcyon current Very nice! That revision is looking a lot more natural to my eye, well done.
@tropic knoll Ooh, really great idea for the mockup design! You nailed the perspective on all these elements, and everything has a really nice balance to it. The rose is a great touch, and the lighting on the chocolate heart really adds some nice depth. Great job with the lighting and shadows too!
@warm stone Well done! This can be a complex challenge due to the perspective and lighting really being a large part of making it believable. I think you did a great job with both of those aspects. My only slight nitpick is that the front side of the box appears to be the darkest side, but the cookie graphic doesn’t seem to have the same shadow applied to it, so it looks a bit unnaturally light. Perhaps making the left side the darkest, and the front the second darkest would showcase the box a bit more, though the cookie might still look good darkened down slightly. Just some thoughts of course, nice work!
@deep mango Very cool, both the perspective and lighting on this are looking really good! It gives it a really solid sense of depth and the textures are applied really well. Liking the color scheme too!
@faint talon Nicely done, the gradients and strong contrast are working really well to give in a shiny look, and the top and bottom light give it a nice realistic look with the main light source and reflected light. Looks good!
@chrome mango Cool idea for the toy box mockup! I like the box pattern and it's neat to see you using your design from a previous challenge for this. Maybe the toy design could be brightened up so it feels more on display and a bit less in shadow? The perspective is looking good on this.
@tired turret I like it! Creative use for this challenge. The bold colors of the design are working well and the text definitely has that reflective look to it. The headphones hanging on the S is a nice touch.
@normal gale Great sense of perspective on the mockup challenge! The 3-point perspective with the vertical lines really helps push that depth. Loving those cat cartoon designs, and the subtle gradients on each box face add some really nice form to the design. Well done!
Day 2 Not exactly a toy however the mirror can be a moc up as the twirling item can be anything and I felt like challenging myself to rounded box dimensions.
Thanks for the feedback Sam, which I completely agree with, you nailed the underlying issue.

I did another very simple animation of fishes I draw in iPad Fresco yesterday. First step in Fresco animating. I do not know how to send it directly from iPad to discord. How to add a shortcut of Discord onto the iPad? I usually do from my Window machine. I will find out how. And also would be nice to know to add audio to the animation and plus puppet warp would be useful when animating in Fresco. And of course pattern maker. Hope they will appear in the near future.
I will do every fish on its own layer and use key frames. That was my first try of 2 groups of fishes. Thanks! Now I did one in Fresco on above first animation try in very simple steps.

hi everyone! I just started the first challenge but I'm running into a problem with Ps. Somehow I don't get a new shape layer when I start drawing with the pen tool. I'm following the exact same steps as @jolly quest is showing in the video but I'm just not getting the new layer. What am I doing wrong? 🤷♀️ Would be great if someone can help me out! 🙂
Check first the pen tool mode: shape, path or fill. Sometimes helps to create a new layer above when you have different layers.
HEY FOLKS! I have added a bunch of tips and info we went over for Challenge 4 to graphics for reference!
I hope this helps you all in your future font pairing endeavors!
When using the Pen Tool, make sure the tool itself is set to create shapes in the top right-hand corner of the app! Let me know if that works!

Hi! here's my take on the first challenge. Had a lot of fun creating the gradients, would love to get some feedback on the shading/highlights
Day 4 Typography
Challenge 4 - Making Movie titles. I used the Typography Welcome Pack from Adobe Fonts.
@normal gale Great idea! Really fun way to try out a bunch of different font pairings. I especially like the Movie Night title text, they work very well together.
@compact pecan Nicely done, good choice for the title text! One small nitpick is the "is the" text feels a bit too close next to the "root of all evil today" text, a bit crowded. Maybe moving it up a touch would help balance it. The background is a nice touch too.
@fringe thicket Nice work with these designs! The bottom circle design has a really strong look to it. I think the M design could have a bit more of that feel if you darkened down the purple tones a bit. The strong contrast (particularly in the dark tones) is what helps give chrome/metal that shiny look. I'm also wondering if the M has a bit too many highlights going on around the bottom "legs" of the letter which confuses the lighting a bit. Just some thoughts. Nice work with the gradients on these, I like the bright highlight addition in the middle of the M.
@copper moss Cool to see another animation from you! Really liking that soft watercolor looking background, and the fish look great. really nice job with the color patterning. When exporting images from Fresco on the iPad to Discord I use the little "share" button and it gives me Discord as an option. Not 100% sure if that's the case with videos too.
@tired turret Nice challenge! I like your take on this one. The reflection is a really interesting idea. A couple suggestions might be to use the pen tool for the curve of the box shape to get a really clean, gradual curve. And I think you could add a bit more shadow to the bottom part of the curve, I like your addition of bounced light but I think it might be a bit much. Nice work!
Thanks! 😊 Pen tool used but it’s not my best tool. Next time I’m using shapes I think.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @bleak fossil
@tired turret The Pen Tool definitely takes some getting used to and has a bit of a learning curve but typically the less points you use the smoother it will be. For example, that curve of the box could be done with two points which would avoid any shaky lines. The Pen Tool can be really powerful once you get the hang of it.
I used three. 🤔 That could be where I went wrong. 😂 Practice is my middle name!

Oh, thanks for "share link", but it is empty in my Fresco. Maybe it can be filled by adding link path of Discord by "hands". In my animation the paths with fishes are not so clever as I did just myself first time. I will learn how to do better: how something should move along paths in Fresco. 😀

Challenge #3 - Animated Arcade Gifs
I started out with @jolly quest starter file but realised that the perspective and such would be too much for me to take in consideration while making the movements so I created my own very basic look of it. I guess I could have made it look better but this works for me as I thought the animation be the main purpose with this challenge. I worked on this one for 3-4 days and it's probably my most ambitious animation ever with a lot of frames (39). I had fun and learned a lot. There is a revised version as I realised that I wasn't happy with the end of the animation.
Challenge 05: Retro Photo Editing. King´s Armchair. I tried to fake some wallpaper or window on the behind front bg. The method of using color range in picking shadows or highlight and applying to them gradient maps are powerful what VooDoo has taught us. Thanks!
Challenge #3 revised - I altered the animation in the last 4 frames and I also changed some of the times as I wasn't too happy with the ending of the animation. I like this one a lot better.
PsDCC 2023-1#3 Animated Arcade Gifs

@tropic knoll Glad to hear you're getting something from this challenge! That's a great idea to reference magazines to learn from. The font pairings and size hierarchy are looking good! My only suggestion might be to increase the contrast a touch so all the text reads a bit stronger, but that's a bit of a minor observation. Nice work!
@hollow yarrow Always fun to take a challenge and run with it, very cool result! I like the sort of fiery look that the warped glitch effect has, and the color gradient across this design is really interesting. Very nice texture too, well done!
@arctic rover Really cool texture! The color contrast works really well with this design too, it has a nice clear graphic read to it. Nice job with the liquify!
@compact pecan Ooh, I really like what you did with the Lava text sort of piling into the bottom. The blue and orange make for a really strong contrast and the texture gives it a lot of interest. I like how the texture and color of the text is so much stronger than the background to really focus the design. Looks good!
@marble umbra Really cool, I like the multiple animated elements. If you're going for an affect with the tail swinging and the curve changing direction to look like a real tail I'd avoid doubling up the tail for two frames in the middle because it gives the effect that it's stopping, and change the direction of the tail at the top of the swing (when it's all the way to the left or right) for a more realistic look. Hopefully that makes sense. Nice job!
@visual pelican Nice job with the different animated elements, the motion adds a lot to this design. It might help to mask the splat shape to the arcade screen, unless of course you're going for the effect that it's jumping off the screen, then that works nicely. Nicely done!
@hollow yarrow Loving the texture in this, and the purple/blues coming off the text. I like how the distortion of the background kind of mirrors the effect from the text and helps push that trippy feeling. Great design!
@normal gale Hah, this is great, loving the walnut character. It might help to put a circle for the hinge at the end of the nut cracker to really make it clear what it is. Even some "teeth" on the cracking part could make that even more clear. Just a thought of course. Nice job with the liquify effect too!
@visual pelican Really nice variety of titles/fonts for the font pairing challenge. One thought is the detailed photos and wide tracking of the text makes it appear a bit busy. Perhaps giving the photos a slight blur, or even putting a flat black shape over the photos and lowering the opacity to 25% or something could put my focus and attention on the text. Thought that's just an idea for the readability, not the font pairing. Nice work!
@copper moss Really neat! Were those blue shapes created with the liquify tool? Really interesting to see more structured/geometric shapes created that way. I like the bold color scheme on this design too.
@lucid plover Really cool take on the Liquify challenge! I like the clean design and the paper texture that shows through the lettering. The contrast between the two words has a nice visual balance to it too, nicely done.
@fringe thicket I think this turned out pretty cool! The TVs seem to have a nice value contrast with a good range between the lights and darks, and the purple-yellow transition works well and adds some nice color contrast. The whole thing contrasts nicely against the background too. Though when using things like gradient maps I often need to do a bit of trial and error to find the colors and values that look right to me. Nice work!
@deep mango Whoa, loving the retro photo design! You picked great colors for this image, some really nice contrast and also very harmonious. Great texture too!
@tropic knoll Nice job on the Font Pairing challenge, I like the design! These fonts have a nice balance to them. I'd be curious to see a version with a darker purple toned background, it might give some really nice color and value contrast to the yellow heart, and work well with the red elements in the design too. Just an idea of course. Looks good!
@visual pelican Ooh, really cool idea for the mock up challenge! Nice job on the perspective for this box with the pictures and text. The color scheme works nicely too.

HA The floor is lava! This is epic. I have played this dangerous game many a time LOL. Love your color choices here
Thank you. I'll fix it. lol
You really took this challenge and made it your own!! I love how you transformed the subject matter of this challenge and I love the new element of challenge you added. I wish I had thought of this! Well done!
Thank you. huh I hadn't thought of lowering the opacity.
Thank you. I love Star Wars also. lol

Hey, I encourage you to go off-road always! This is so cool. I really love the texture. Is that the pixelated wind filter?
Ohhhh I love how this one bleeds down the canvas
You went with such a unique vibe for this one! I love the shapes and the 3 dimensional element you are using here
Ohhhh this American Psycho piece is really great! Wouldn’t change a thing here
Thank you, Val!

Thanks for your comments @jolly quest I really appreciate! I enjoyed this challenge which let us experiment some crazy things.
I didn't use wind filter on this one (even if I could have done) ... I made several layers with barcode font and mixed them to get different displacement maps
Then I applied them on few of my liquified "6"copies. Finaly I had some fun adding textures and playing with gradient maps and blending modes.

Thanks! Happy you enjoyed my off-road trip😉
Challenge #6 - Liquify Textures and Shapes - I had something in mind but the liquify filter (ok my brain in conjunction with my hands and eyes) didn't cooperate with me so here is something else than what I had in mind 😂
Hi @bleak fossil. I went to Adobe's Color pallettes to match my colors. As you can see, I get puzzled when it comes to applying colors. I do try. Time and practice, hopefully, will get me over my hurdles. Thanks for you ongoing support and generous comments!

I'm sorry that I haven't had too much time these last couple of weeks to create some of the fun DCCs that @crystal aurora has created so I created a composite today... Fun!!!!
Catching up... Challenge #5 & #6
Challenge 07: Custom Pattern Brush. I am not sure if this is good. Of course making a personal unique brush is of a great value to the design generally. I liked how VooDoo showed us.
Another one for Challenge #6 - Liquify Textures and Shapes.
Challenge #3 I had to visit my roots, I spent a summer in Japan visiting my while he lived there for work. I spent a lot of time in pachinko parlors...
That was fun. A photo of a cardboard box. Then variations using a linear brush...only that one brush in various sizes, shapes and colors.
Ps_DCC7 Patter Brush
Liquify Text with VooDoo Val. The font is Zubilo, Lined. I wanted to do something completely out of the box for me. As I plug along, I am realizing that each piece needs to tell a story. Not sure what this one says, but I sure had fun! The text intentionally runs off. The idea is to convey the heart is approachable. Hope that makes sense. Thank you for this opportunity!
Day 7 Challenge
Liquify Text Re_Do. The colors are from Adobe's colors pallet, font is Zubilo, Lined. Is it me or does this image feel wild. Perhaps I stepped too far out of my box. 😄 I'm trying different things and learning, too! Thanks for this wonderful opportunity!
@tropic knoll Hah, My original message was "Ooh, really cool psychedelic feel to this Liquify hear design! I really like how the text is shaped to fit within the heart too. My only suggestion might be to pick a color for the "Happy" text that contrasts a bit more against the red of the heart since it's getting a little lost while the green of Valentines is really standing out strongly. Nice job!"
But then I saw the redo version, and the text definitely stands out more on this new one.
@chrome mango Nice job with the brush creation, it's interesting to see how it looks at both a large and small size. Nicely done 👍
@arctic rover Very nice! Spending some time seeing how a single brush can be used in different ways and under different circumstances is a good way to get a feel for the tool. Nice job!
@plain sable Hah, I like it! Cool idea for an animation challenge, I've definitely heard of those machines before but never been to Japan or seen one in person. The backdrop design for this is a really great touch and adds a lot of personality. Really nice job with the animated elements too!
@halcyon current Ooh, really cool take on this challenge. I love the controlled, tapered shape of these lines. The intertwined H adds some great variety and character, and I like the sort of horns you created with the G and T. Great texture on both the text and background too, it really adds a lot of mood to the design.
@copper moss I really like the graphic look of this Custom Pattern Brush challenge. The purple and green have a really strong contrast, and I like the background gradient and shadow you added. "Good" is really just personal preference and based off if you got the look you were going for. Sometimes with challenges we're just trying out new techniques to add to our "toolkit", but I think this has a really cool graphic look to it. Nice job with the pattern brush on this design.
@plain sable Very nice, challenge 5 and 6 are looking good! I like the stylization to the first image, the out of focus background and purple/yellow color scheme create some nice contrast. Really cool shapes with the liquify tool for the second design too! Though the whole design seems a touch dark, perhaps tweaking the levels or contrast, or even lightening up just the background could give it a bit more punch? Nice work!
@marble umbra No problem! We always have challenges going on so it’ll always be here for you. Liking the texture in this design!
@young karma Very nice work with the liquify challenge! I like how much you pulled the shapes down and how well the text still reads. The H especially has a cool liquified look with the thin squiggly line and drop at the bottom of it. Looks good!
@halcyon current Ooh, I love the Liquify text challenge! Really cool texture, and I like the color scheme, it works well with this theme. I also like how the background gives the text a sort of backlit feel. Nice job with the shapes on this.
@normal gale Very nice, the graphic read to this design is working really well. Very clear design, and the texture adds some nice interest to the whole thing. The font choice also fits the theme and feel really well, nicely done!
@tropic knoll The revisions on the heart design all look great! That color contrast really makes a difference.
Ok! Thanks, Sam! I was thinking I did wrong. By the way the microphone VooDoo uses sounds not good. But sometimes she sounds very good. Andrew´s mic is a bit better in another DCC. Please, if possible, improve to clear and stereo. Thanks!

Thank you @bleak fossil for your feedback on my both sends for the Liquify challenge. I had a lot of fun while creating even if it was a bit frustrating to get the shapes the way I wanted. The "GHOST" one certainly was a lot more controlled 😆

Hi all! I'm still trying to catch up with the challenges, here's my work for challenge 6. Spent way too much time on tweaking the liquify filter on both the letter shapes & the color texture BUT it was fun!
Day 6 Challenge
And here's my take on challenge 7! I used to rollerskate a lot, so that's my inspiration 🛼 Should probably adjust placement of text & image, will get back to that later
Thanks @bleak fossil I played around with the liquefied challenge, thanks for the suggestion...

I only managed to get number 2 done. Got stuck tap tap tapping with dissolve brush on no 1.🤨 Mushroom is done in Cinema 4D.
Kinda went off the rails with challenge #7 I made my brushes and did use the cutout filter but somehow I went off the rails 🙂
Challenge #8
My Peter Max homage to Edgar Allen Poe. Today is his birthday. The full quote is "I became insane with bouts of horrible insanity."
Poster with VooDoo Val. The black and white hearts were penned with the curvature tool. Then I penned the decorative heart and made a brush. For the tiny hearts, I created a Shape. This was lots of fun! Thank you for a fun and challenging two weeks!

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Poster - Day 8 Challenge
Puzzle Frame Animation. I created the puzzle pieces with the Curvature Pen tool. I was surprised at how quick and easy this was to create! Thank you very much for the past two weeks of amazing challenges!

Tweaked this image as I didn't think "Grunge City" was readable... I also brought out the subject a bit... Party ON!!!!
Missed todays livestream but did finish challenge 8! 🥳 Normally I would make this in Illustrator, but it was fun to work in Photoshop for a change 🙂
@plain sable Oooh, these are looking great! Going off the rails is the best way to do these challenges, hah. I love the texture you got in both of these, it adds a really nice dimension to everything. Really great color schemes and gradients as well which creates some really nice contrast. I really like the sort of crocheted look of the brushes on Challenge 7, and the shadowed cut out effect in Challenge 8 is a really nice touch and gives it a very nice sense of depth. Great color contrast in that one too. Nicely done!
@arctic rover Really cool idea for this challenge! That is quite the quote, I like the contrast of that quote and his portrait with the bright colors of this design. Nice job with all these different shapes!
@chrome mango Very nice! I like all the different elements going on in this design. I do feel like the legibility could be strengthened a bit as the text is hard to read at a glance. Perhaps the background texture could be blurred slightly to help the text contrast the background more? Nice work.
@frigid barn Really cool to see you adding a 3D element into this design! The box is looking great, but in lighting/shadow as well as the design. The color scheme has a nice clear contrast to it. My only nitpick is the text on the left side of the box seems a little unnaturally light as if it isn’t affected by the shadow. Well done!
@visual pelican Really liking the spooky look of this Liquify text design. The text and background colors have a nice color contrast to them, and you created some really interesting shapes with the liquify effect. 👍
@copper moss Really cool almost neon-like color palette with this Challenge 8 design! I also like how the skin is the highest point of color contrast to create a strong focal point. I really like how you created the hair for this. I wonder if you used a smallish airbrush to soften the hard edge of the hair where it connects with skin, if it might blend it a little more naturally with the hair strands outside of the hair shape. Though that’s really personal preference, the hard edge graphic look might be more of what you’re going for. Nice design!
@stone steppe Ooh, I like the variations on this and the color/patterns on the text add a lot of interest. I really like the strong contrast of the light text against the dark background on the first one. My only nitpick if I had one might be to mostly drag the bottom “tail” of the P down rather than the bottom area of the whole letter to make it read as a P a bit more clearly. Just a thought of course. Very nice work!
@plain sable The contrast in the Create design is looking good!
@fringe thicket Loving the look of this Challenge 7 design! Great graphic really, and the texture adds a lot of personality to this design. This is just personal preference but I’d really like to see the yellow repeated in the design for consistency. It could be the top text, or maybe even just “Let the” text, but again, this is just a common design principle I personally like to do. Great design!
@buoyant nova Great melted/warped effect. I really like how it looks like the letters are melting and starting to sag down from their original place, in addition to the bottom of them getting pulled down all the way. The text also has a really nice contrast against the background. Looks good!
@fringe thicket Loving the design for Challenge 6! It looks like a much happier alternative to “True Crime” hah. I really like the texture you added, and the liquify effect came out really nicely. There is something about it that seems slightly dramatic, even with the bold colors and style, and I wonder if that’s just that it’s a bit on the darker side given the colors you chose. Maybe that’s what you’re going for, but if not, brightening the overall image with a Levels adjustment might push that bright/happy feel even more. Nice work!
@tropic knoll Really cool design for the Valentine design! I really love what you did with the decorative red hearts, it adds some really interesting, intricate designs which I think balances well with the rest of the larger shapes in this design. The red and black also has a really interesting aesthetic to it. Very nice!
@normal gale Very cool graphic portrait for the Day 8 challenge! The text warp around the portrait is looking really good and the purple color scheme is very fitting, hah. Nice job with the background pattern too!
Thank you Sam, appreciate your comments 😀

Challenge #7 Custom Pattern Brushes - @jolly quest mentioned something about wood carved stamp textures in the instructions and that gave me an idea after trying to change a photo into a creation like Vals result in the stream and "failed" 😆 so I went my own way.
I used my created brush to fill a compass rose and I put it on a piece of wood and tried to apply a burned text effect from @bleak fossil s challenge April 25th 2022 even if the pattern was so small that it couldn't be applied without having to change the settings.
Thanks @bleak fossil

This is soo beautiful @tired turret 😍
Thanks, Sam for the previous feedback. There I used dune grass brush to give hair texture. Of course I will improve the first neon version. And I think the previous was ok. Now I did bit of improvement as VooDoo suggested to leave her hair as it is. I tried to achieve fudge color highlights on her skin. So I can work later of course to get the poster more attractive.
Thank you so much!

Here is me pen tool poster attempt. The pen tool and i dont get along very well. We are getting better. But I have trouble with the anchor points disapering when i try moving them around. And i am getting a bit better with dissolve.
It’s great! But i think there are too much grain
Font resubmit
A bit hard to read the text and I think the problem is the background. Have you played with layering a solid color layer on top of it (so behind all of the text and graphics, but infront of the black or warp hole background). Fade it out so it darkens it. Then your text will pop more.
Thanks. I just tried your suggestion.
