I only know of one way to legitimately get them without premium.

You know that icon in the top right that looks like a present? If you click on it, you can watch an add to get 3 random powers for 30 minutes. It just so happens that you can actually randomly get some of the new species with that.

So if you're willing to watch a lot of ads, you can get them. I can understand if you don't want to, though.
