When I put a map.json file into a worldbox map folder, and I load in worldbox and load the map, the game recovers and reloads a file I had previously deleted to make room for the map.json.

For example, I deleted a map of the United States to make room for a map of Europe, (the map of europe is a map.json file), I put the map.json file into the folder which contains the world files (map.meta, map.wbox, ecd) and what it does is it somehow RECOVERS the map.wbox file I had DELETED, and plays that world instead of the map.json file. The map.json is still there, but it doensnt load, it just recovers a map.wbox file of the previous world.

Also i'll mention that map.json files previously had worked for me before, before the game had been transfered to steam

The bot hasn't been updated in a very long time which means none of the new biomes are there

You have to use the converter program itself

but that has only been updated for the first batch of new biomes (savanna, infernal, jungle, mushroom, swamp, etc.)

it does not have any of the newest biomes such as arcane desert, crystal, etc.

10x9 is actually smaller (not as in the map's smaller, as in how much space the image takes, but also not how big the image is) than 9x8, because it's a smaller ratio

Well it's just a large desert so I can't really comment on how you're supposed to lay out your river networks

It would be easier if there are mountains and hills around, because rivers always begin from higher areas then flow to lower areas, converging into fewer, bigger rivers as they come down

You can't do that

You need to do the exact opposite

Figure out the locations of the mountain ranges first before placing down your rivers

the placement of the mountain ranges will determine the most natural courses for the rivers

See this latest map I posted:

Notice how the rivers all start from the mountain ranges and flow down into the valleys and into the sea

And they all converge into fewer, bigger rivers as they get closer to the sea

This is why you need to figure out your mountain/hill placement first

Most of the mountains are planned to be in the southwesterly corn of the world, to provide a reason that there's only one large city there.

The grey lines are the rough locations I planned for. The problem was tying a river into the "oasis" location without spliting the forest tiles enough that they couldn't be claimed or would result in a road blocking boats.

That's the plan to an extent. The old version of this was too bland. That's a large part of why I want the rivers to not be awful, they're what is going to add the most flavor to the world.

The north I do want to keep relatively mountain free however, the south being the most mountainous region.

That's more or less an example of what I'm aiming for in the south. Several mountain ranges coming almost but not precisely to each other, in a way protecting the oasis in between them. Then there's an a volcanic area with several small towns dotted about the mountains. Larger towns of a similar design would be put nearer to the rivers up in the north because it's nice and open.

Keep in mind that mountain ranges generally follow tectonic plate boundaries

If you want it to look realistic, plan it accordingly

In any case, do the mountains and hills first before worrying about where to place the rivers

Just send ~c <desired height of map> along with an attached image in #🔁map-conversion, it should make a map that looks sort of like the image but, more importantly, has a custom size.
