Look up plate tectonics

Whenever you create a world, make sure you also create imaginary tectonic plates over the entire world

Mountains, island chains, oceanic trenches, etc. all appear at the boundaries of tectonic plates

Also, you can give the illusion of different height levels by using the hill tile as a base, followed by the mountain tile, and finally top it off with the snowy mountain tile (by using the lower temperature god power)
