How to access the worldbox data folder on android 11 to 13.
If steps below don't work or android 14+ use these alternative methods :

1. Download a third-party application like "File Manager" from google play,
2. Now go to your phone’s "settings" application, after that find/search an factory system application called "Files" (has a darker blue background with a big white folder in the center of the icon), then click it,
3. you will be showed the "app info" screen after clicked the "Files" application, find the three dots button,
4. After you see the three dots button, click the three dots button and then if it has an "uninstall updates" option there, make sure to choose the option (wait until the uninstalling process is done and completed to avoid a mistake),
5. Now open the third-party application (File Manager) and allow it to manage files,
6. Find the "Android" folder and open it, then open the data folder,
7. You'll see some popup, touch "ok"/"yes" and also touch the "use this folder" button at bottom without opening any files that are showing,
8. If you have succeeded, the app will now have access to android file and can enter the saves folder in "com.mkarpenko.worldbox" folder.

Hello everyone, I've been asked to explain my process quite a few times. However it's difficult to explain without visual representation. So I'll give you
a quick rundown of my general workflow in GIMP in 10 steps + some visuals!

1. Start out with a rough brush and draw the general landmass, don't fret if you have straight lines on your continents.

2. Refine the landmass by adding defining lines, additional islands, and outcroppings.

3. Add the rough base of your mountains, Use a combo of "noodle" style mountains and more robust hills. Have some chaos with it.

4. mountain time, do not fill the entire hill space with mountains just where the peaks/ridges would be.

5. Highlands will take some time but first hit it with a rough brush throughout the land mass concentrating around the mountains and plateaus.

6. The image shows half of the refining process to give you a feel of what you should be going for.

7. Refining the highlands giving detail into forest breaking any smooth pieces.

8. I use an ocean brush I have made to give the seabed its detail but, it is entirely possible to reuse the same steps in 5-7
   with the highlands to recreate a similar result.

9. Biomes is a similar case, I once again use a custom brush to create the blending. The closest thing I found to be similar is the stonework brush in Gimp.
   As to the steps involved you want create a layer for each biome overlayed atop the original landmass.

10. Merge the biome layers together then assign each biome its appropriate low/high color according to the main landmass.

Hopefully this helps explain a tad better than just words alone. If you have anymore questions feel free to msg me and I'll try to assist. Here are some
more general tips for everyone!

Always make separate layers for new steps makes it easier if you mess something up.

Don't get caught up in detailing work, unless the map is a closeup of a region the coast should be relatively smooth.

Draw, erase some, draw, erase some... and repeat, this is a key detail in making the highlands, mountains, hills, and biomes.

If possible use a draw pen/tablet it makes this easier however it is not needed (this map was made with mouse&keyboard)
When placing highlands and mountains avoid placing them directly in the middle of the landmass (except small island), this by far contributes to the unnatural look many maps have.

ensure the map size is a multiple of 64

so you may need to crop it a bit

Should include all tile hexcodes. Did you make sure to scroll down a little bit for the tiles like lava and other tiles? They have their own separate table for that right below the image table.

Might be a better idea to just include a page for hexcodes to make it more obvious and link to it at the top of that page to keep it less cluttered with info people may not looking for

Hi, I'm thinking about making a really, really big map (30x30 minimum but preferrably 40x40 or larger) that is largely nothing, interrupted by some islands. I was wondering, when it comes to map sizes hurting computers, is it more about the map itself or the populations on the map that causes computers to combust? Thanks!

You can get it with the ~dm_convert_palette command!

The reason why it's not pinned anymore is that the palette can change based on your conversion settings, so it can't really be summarized into a single message.

9x9 is the max default size the game allows.

I typically progress going from mountains > hills > snow caps. Detail takes up a grand majority of the time in creation. The final result is by no means the first draft!

Honestly, experience plays a big part (compare my older maps for example), but here is some. First things first get yourself a vector or image manipulation program. Gimp or Photoshop are the big ones. Secondly, avoid drawing Mts in the middle of landmasses. A final big one is to give variable line depth, a mass majority of maps suffer from this if all the mountains have a 5 pixel border of hills surrounding them they will look unnatural. These a few tips though If you have anymore questions let me know.

If you mean my blending technique I went over it a little bit in a post a little while back but essentially I use a brush in gimp to help blend. And then stack the biome layers

Location will play a large factor in biome placement but based off what I see. The desert in the east needs to be scattered a bit, blended with arcane sand, Also blend in between a mix of savannah and grassland savannah. From their if the west is subject to tropics than perhaps a jungle mixed in with a little swamp. Utilizing the more fantasy-esque biomes requires more in depth work.

and maybe a small green oasis in the desert to help break up the yellow tones

wondering why even if I push the resolution and size of the image I convert the map converter still converts it into a massive 15x30 map that is corrupted. Any tips fore me cause this is the first time this problem has happened to me ever since I used the converter bot.

Looks good, If I were to tweak anything I’d move the swamps down off the mountains towards the rivers near the jungle. Around the small lakes in the desert mix tiles of jungle/grass sparingly to break up the yellow surroundings. Finally in the south where the jungle and savannah meet mix in some grass land to make the jump in color more smooth.
Besides my minor critiques it’s shaping nicely

That's an old map save type. I think the game is still able to load it.

Once you load it in game I think you can just save the world to another save slot to convert it into a map.wbox if you want.

15 chunks is 960 tiles, so a 15x15 map is 921600 tiles total
no clue how much memory a tile takes up internally, at least a few bytes for the coordinates and tile id, but the actual sprite is 8x8 pixels so assuming its not compressed in memory that's 256 bytes per sprite (assuming these are all loaded in at full res, since worldbox turns them to single pixels when zoomed out)

and 256 bytes x 921600 tiles is 235,929,600 bytes but i doubt it's holding each individual tile's sprite into memory so it's probably not actually all that much

You need to install Zarchiver, then also download the image

Then select the map and image going to Download, then go back and then into Android>Data and then search for file that says com.mkarpenko.worldbox and then go into files>saves and then create a new slote for example

if you have save1, save2 and save3 then create a file that says "save4"
And then put the map and the image in that file and then go onto game and enjoy 🙂
