I use software like GIMP on PC to make my maps so I don't have to edit them in game (on most occasions) then i use the image converter program to convert them

if by what you mean is getting good oceans, pay it not much mind is my opinion but others go for unique styles. I just trace shallow water along the coastline, trace close ocean along shallow water and leave the rest alone
