Honestly, for a lot of maps based on earth, people tend to use a height map converter and then add biomes to it

i usually use big circles of plain soil to draw with them

then i remove bits with 1 pixel size water

to make it more realistic shaped and not circular

and then i sprinkle forest soil

Same world. Second screenshot is after nearly 15k years of history. Once again the world is ripe for new life; several thousand years after previous sapient creatures tampered with blood magic and annihilated all life AND recorded history as well as permanently scarring the world.

I really shouldve taken a screenshot between these two events. At one point a race of orks mutated into inevitable explosive devices. I watch as a single dead ork would channel explosions across the lands. Ultimately leaving the world a wasteland as well as dooming all life. The last orks were severely mutated no longer able to communicate or form more than the simplest of thoughts. They eventually died off. Apparently radiation and spore reproduction don't mix well.

Why I blocked all the water inside? Very simple reason - those areas will become a swamp biome.

I mean, this is a wasteland so I doubt there is a clean water sources, with water also being able to constantly move so it won't just get stuck.

I mean, swamps are kinda appearing due of that, water doesn't move for too long.
