remove all labels and lenses from the map, snip the map with Windows key + shift + S. Go into the paint.net app (DO NOT LOOK UP THE LINK PAINT.NET, IT LEADS TO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. go to getpaint.net and look up a tutorial on how to install paint.net. DO NOT CLICK ANY ADVERTS. SOME ADVERTS MAY PRETEND TO BE THE DOWNLOAD BUTTON. DO NOT CLICK THEM. FOLLOW THE TUTORIAL EXACTLY.)
paste the snipped screenshot into paint.net. Create a new layer and trace the coasts. You don't have to follow the pixels perfectly, just give the general feel of the coasts. Name this layer "Coasts".
You can add a layer underneath all the other layers and fill it with white using the fill tool. Then, if you hide your screenshot layer, the lines you draw become more distinct. However, you can experiment with different backdrops.
Then, go back into worldbox and turn on the kingdom layer. Snip the world and then make a new layer in paint.net. Paste it into the new layer. Place the kingdoms map layer underneath the coasts layer. If it doesn't fit, resize at the corners while holding shift to avoid distortion. Do not release shift before you release your LMB.
Once the kingdom map is lined up close enough (It doesn't have to be pixel-perfect), duplicate the coasts layer. Name this new layer "Borders". Trace the kingdom borders on the new layer.
You can now hide both screenshot layers.
Once that is done, duplicate the borders layer and name the new layer "Colours". Use the fill tool to fill in the colours of the nations. The colours red, yellow, green, blue and purple are plenty distinct and work well for this. I personally like to set opacity to 150 when I do this.
For the sea zones, I like to go to the fill tool, then open the dropdown labelled "fill". Image attached to show what it looks like. It's in the top left. Scroll down until you find the option "Wave" (Image attached). Then, set your primary colour to blue and your secondary to anything with opacity 0. Once done, set it back to solid.

If you don't set it back to solid, other things will have the wave pattern on them

also if you accidentally close the colour selector, you can get it back again via the button in the top right

Then I make another layer for text. For these maps I use the font "Castellar"

When you need to write over water zones, make a new layer and put it under text. Use the shape tool to draw (I tend to choose white) rectangles to make the text more distinct. If the text it coloured, use its complimentary colour for maximum distinction
