i believe its mainly due to disabling old age and enabling angry villagers so they cant overwhelm their villages before running out of troops as they need to resupply over an entire ocean and no new kings which means no peace

@last bridge the number only appears when you zoom it out until the number spawned besides of the banner like what goose showed above, if it's still not appeared; try saving your map first, get out of the game and delete the game cache and reboot your device for extra steps and after all of that you can try load the save then turn on the ShowAmountNearArmy option in debug menu.
