the game works as follows:

You have a stash, this is basically your vault or inventory that is only accessible by you.

You take stuff out of your stash like guns, ammunition, armor, and so on to prepare yourself for a "raid".

A raid is essentially what people in tarkov refer to a match as. Everyone starts the raid at the same time on whatever map you choose (up to 14 players depending) and you race to grab loot and items, however when encountering other players they will try to kill you, if you die you lose everything you brought with you and everything you found during that raid.

If you manage to grab some good items, you then have to make it to a set extraction point on the map. If you die before you get there, you lose everything you brought into the raid as well as everything you found, but if you make it to the extraction zone, you will be taken out of the match and you keep everything you found.

You can then either keep or sell loot depending on whether you want it. You use money to buy gear.

The "goal" is to complete tasks set by the game and improve your gear over time.
