Its a simple sell or use kind of situation. Its great for protecting you (though arm protection is kinda dog sh). I'd probably just use a Gzel or Korund over it though simply due to them being cheaper, lighter and doesnt waste on arms

I generally recommend new players stay away from Reserve. Very hard to survive, not such an easy map to learn especially underground area, a lot of difficult AI, tough extractions, and the items they need to find early-game can be more easily found on other maps.
Not to mention the fact that a new player's quests will be on other maps and not Reserve. Until mid-game the only quest they will have is Bunker 1 and 2.

You can progress a lot faster early-game on other maps. On Reserve you may be able to loot a bit and kill a couple Scavs before doing your quest, but your chance of dying as a new player is much higher. Perhaps you won't even complete your quest because of map knowledge.
Whereas on Customs or Woods you may be able to complete your other quests which lead to more better quests in quest tree (unlike bunker 1 which leads to bunker 2 and just ends there). Perhaps also kill more Scavs to gain more XP, and loot items required for hideout and other quests. All of this while having a higher chance to survive.

It leads to Bunker 2, Renegades, and then Documents.
The highest requirement is Level 12 to get these quests, but the issue with them, as you said, is they are rather hard especially for a new player. They are incredibly time consuming. They give you very little XP and rewards that are just not worth very much.

I have a quest for Jaeger where I need 8 toilet papers and 6 chimney drain cleaners, and about 4 days left. I ran woods for like 40 raids straight (PMC and Scav), and found everything but one chimney cleaner. Since I will be busy the next few days, I don't know if I'll be able to finish the quest since I haven't found the chimney cleaner for two days (even after checking out every stash on woods + checking item spawn areas on Shoreline and Customs).
