SKS is pretty decent at low levels, cheap and can get 20 rounders for them and it runs one of the better rounds lower level players have access too. The VPO 136 is also good for those reasons with better stats across the board and modding options, but more expensive.

Yeah I would just try to learn one map at a time, I started with customs because that’s were the first couple of tasks are. Don’t try to force yourself on a map you don’t know just run scavs on it, offline it or bring some doodoo ass kit on a PMC first
