MP5 is decent. However with 9mm ammo you will need to leg them or pump a lot of rounds into armor to kill them. It has benefit of being decently high rpm so that helps.

Customs is the first map with task and is small enough to get pvp but big enough to move around

Interchange has tons of loot. Task items, hideout items, and those are items that you can sell to make $

i did 2 offline pmc Customs runs with a light loadout (pistol, 2 mags, no bags) and the one challenge I'm encountering is dealing with scavs. When I engage I get swarmed by all the nearby patrols.

Any tips on engaging scavs, looting them, and moving on without getting swarmed?

Always have cover, scavs are pretty easy when you just lean out and line your shot up but if you challenge them in the open they can waste you. Don't rush to loot them, they often travel in packs so take your time and listen/scan for movement.

Yeah, and for me what helps is always clear my retreat first, if you know you can safely fall back you can usually bottle neck the scavs and they'll walk their head into your aim one by one

Practice PMC offline on customs. Spawn in and see if you can make it from spawn to exit 50% of the time while dealing with scavs. When you can do that then you are ready for online.
