As a pmc? Focus on tasks when doing your first raid try to avoid gunfights as much as possible. Stay hidden and like I said try to only worry about tasks you can focus on pvp when you are at a higher level but starting out I recommend also killing scavs when possible.

Use your surroundings when finding where you are on a map. I recommend utilizing the practice raids and getting to familiarize yourself with the map and learning spawn points as well as extracts that are near you.

When you are about to enter a raid there is an option to do “offline” practice raids instead of fighting players you fight ai scavs but you have options to disable the ai so you can just focus on learning the maps rather than fighting.

practice raids don't have any progression, so everything resets to how it was before you went in - so you can't lose or gain anything

great for learning maps, getting good at killing scavs and bosses, but don't spend too much time there

alternate between scav and practice mode for risk-free learning while still making money

the higher pen the bullet, the better chance you have at penetrating and not ricocheting, but also it depends on the helmet. some helmets are lvl 4 but also have really shitty ricochet chance
