hey my name is beza and i'm really interested in cybersecurity, especially ethical hacking and penetration testing. Right now, I'm working on building a strong foundation in cybersecurity by studying tools like Metasploit, Nmap, and Wireshark, and learning how to use Kali Linux effectively from the terminal. I enjoy breaking things down step by step and understanding how systems work from the inside out whether it's how a network handshake works or how to exploit a vulnerability safely in a test environment.
Aside from that, I’m also improving my Python coding skills because I know it’s essential for scripting and automating tasks in cybersecurity.
For hobbies, I love playing chess, especially openings like the Catalan Defense, and I’m into old music. well for me learning about IT hardware isn’t strictly necessary before diving into cybersecurity and coding, it can provide valuable context for understanding vulnerabilities and optimizing performance, though you can start with networking (which you’re doing with PowerCert’s animated videos), move to cybersecurity basics, and then coding with Python, delaying hardware until you encounter a need or interest, as your current path is a solid foundation for all three areas.

It's an entry level exam I don't think that it would benefit me at this point 🙂

Hey OCrosby14, I have used other sources like Udemy, Hack the Box and TCM academy but none like TryHackme, honestly is super easy to start machines and their teaching method is great if you are new to the field. Some research outside has to be done on one's own volition to improve but stick to the labs and little by little I am sure it will become easier.

In my humble opinion it all depends on your aim and interest. Do some research on Google/YouTube or any platform you use of feel comfortable and start exploring. The path is varied and versatile. I would stick to TryHackme honestly. I am not much of a podcast listener but once in a while I listen to Darknet Diaries.

I'm currently a sys admin on year 4. I've been half and half on wanting to dive into cyber sec or stay in admin land. I'm an admin first, but the environments stable so most of my work the last couple years has been patching vulnerabilities. It's been a grind, but recently I started and finished Mr. Robot because my buddy made me. That got me to look up hackthissite.org one night. I finished the basic challenges over a weekend and I loved it. Then I was immediately mortified when I remembered that I own front facing websites and have planned more thorough tests and remediations. This is already more interesting and fun than what I've been doing and I think I see this as a new path.

No problem, it’s also a remember for myself because what I have experienced is that with learning all these skills we tend to rush and learn them all quickly but these are skills that we will use in the real world and in professional environments so it’s very important to not rush.
