You can use Burp for lots of stuff, but the general idea is that you use the proxy to capture specific HTTP requests. Once you have the HTTP request that you’re looking for you send it to one of the other modules to manipulate the traffic that your client sends to the server

For example if you’re doing an enumeration attack, where you have “http://website.com/users/X” and user numbers are randomly assigned between 1000-2000, you could use Burp to brute force every user id combination. You would have to look for specific server return codes (200 if it finds a valid user and maybe 302/404 if it doesn’t)

But you can really do a ridiculous amount of stuff with Burp. Bruteforce logins, exploit file upload vulnerabilities, manipulate sessions and cookies. It’s an incredibly powerful OWASP tool that comes up again and again, especially in the higher level modules

I wouldn’t call it a man in the middle because you’re technically the one intercepting the traffic. But yes a MITM works roughly in a similar way
