a beige and blue room had suddenly become a very much white room 🤣
I do have notes on 11D SUGRA if you want
Naughty kids?
Or 11 Dimensional Supergravity for long
interesting to raise is the affectionate term
How much u selling them for?
Free
It's on my website
Along with my analysis piece on stuxnet
Its a compliment
So now u r advertising ur website
Nop you asked if it was paid
I said no it's on notes site for free
I'll bookmark it for another day, when you mentioned it I checked your profile to see if it was in bio and grabbed it from the links
😄
I’m just playin around dw
Send me the website
nah ofc, I wouldn't say I was naughty, maybe just a bit of a menace haha
Hows it going folks?
My teams hackosint write ups will be there next week
Nth much Eli. Wbu
Heya
Fun
I am super exicted for new laptop on Wednesday, 2025 Asus Zephryus G16 with 5070ti c:
like getting me to sleep was a diabolical piece of work, had to drive me round for a good hour or two before I'd sleep and even then I'd wake up suddenly demanding warm milk
Nice
ooh very nice, I get my two work laptops next week I think
Since this actually has a proper mux switch I should have a significantlly better time in Linux one again
I miss being a kid😔
and am giving my work laptop back later today I believe
I would sleep on the cold floor staring at the lightbulb 😂
Is ur current device bad?
I kind of do and don't
No but it doesn't have a mux switch so AMD+Nvidia Optimus switching is kinda crazy
that's a vibe when lethal to be fair
I love being an adult for some things but I miss being kid for many things
Oh dang
How old is it?
I did say verbatim "it'd be nice to go back to my unconcious years of life"
It will be fun too
I have a 2021 Asus Zephryus G15 with 3070 so this is actually a pretty direct upgrade, but design refresh, OLED screen, lots has changed
I wish to go back to my previous lives tbh
Oh dang
I'm sticking with my G15 5520 for a few more years I reckon
and G5 745 for light workloads
I use different devices for different purposes
yeah same here
It's disgusting how many laptops I'm going to have in my house by next week
yeah it just was finally time and I wanted to get this done before tarrifs. Yeah this is just my pesonal home gaming laptop/main
Ow I just cut my neck on my necklace
lol. My parents sold my super old devices sadly😔
How?
how can i see the amount of points i have?
Cause it's barbed wire
Man it was autocorrect mb
I just can't tell you how freaking excited I am to have Linux on my main device again
I've:
HP G5 745
Dell G15 5520
Toshiba Satellite L10-333
and for work an XPS 15 7th gen but I'll hand that in soon, start a new job and get two laptops from them 🤣
im there but i dont see the points
Ah lol I thought you meant the Zephryus G15, but yeah the Dell is nice too
I can understand how excited u r
i can only see that i have more than 1k points because of my rank
the toshiba I got off my grandad and don't really use but is there more as a test device, the hp I bought second hand when I had loads of issues with the dell
oh thats it?
I'm kind of a sucker for gaming laptops that are like "macbook but for gaming" so premium and thin and light and not G4M3R aesthetic at all
Your points are on the dashboard
nah, I had the Dell G3 15 3500 before and they gave me a G15 5520 when I threatened them with legal action 🤣
never going dell again though regardless of if they gave me a nice upgrade
Yup. Ur points r low and so ur rank is low
Yeah Asus has massively won me over in recient years
well loved them back in the netbook era too but you get me
yup i see it thanks
Gave +1 Rep to @knotty valve (current: #144 - 60)
Yeah no complaints, just keep ghelper in mind for Windows and asusctl in mind for Linux
see I've never had an issue with HP so I can't really vouch for or against them, dell was a nightmare, I had to cite the consumer rights act to them and argue with them, asus I've heard good things about but haven't experienced
steamdeck + desktop for me - if I need a personal laptop, used enterprise gear regardless of brand is my go-to.
@vernal comet Fun stuff
both do all the "Amory Crate" proprietary stuff
yup i reached 0x4 today
big thing with dell as well, thermal limits are a guideline to them, they absolutely do not care and make no effort to adequately cool systems
started like a week back
I’m also that although I barely do thm
HP Victus had alright cooling
I ended up installing liquid metal on my G15 5520 and it's been class since
Totally fair, I'm just a weirdo and ended up prefering laptops again once it was in my price range
I’ll lock in tmmrw tho
I actually heard good things about it given the specs iirc
lol the last desktop I built is still sitting there with a GTX 970 in it
Hallo people of the world
Like cybersecurity as a whole or just thm?
Wsp my man
Hallo hydra
thm
Hru sir
Chilling wby
Back when I did naval shit during my certificate we decided to see if we could run liquid metal in a vapor chamber
It didn't last too long
my desktop's now a proxmox server, ryzen 5 3600, 1050ti and 48gb ram (it had 16 when I used it as a desktop)
Oh nice. When did u start cybersecurity?
Am gr8 saar
like 2-3 months
very new to all this
my laptop has more ram than I've ever had in a desktop, in fact all my laptops have bar the oldold one🤣
About to feed myself and then do a lil bit of thm
Nice that sounds like the old gaming laptop I used for proxmox before my Poweredge
My next is master I guess
Don’t feel like one
My PC has 46 GB iirc
Or 48
Wat all stuff have u learned till now?
I forgot what exactly
But others can
I've a 2950 downstairs haha, I just don't use it because of the power demand and I wanted the single core speed
which those older xeons aren't amazing for
I normally go AMD
mostly privilege escelations, sql injections, phising, docker containers are a big nono, etc etc. list goes on
By my T470 is an i5-7
hah totally fair, yeah PowerEdge T430 for me so a bit newer
yeah that's fair
I need an upgrade before next semester
Any recommendations around the 1k mark?
In price
Have u learned the basics tho? Liek networking and all?
ive been in tech for a while so i already know about the whole tcp/osi stack etc
honestly, based off my own experience, get a lightweight laptop with decent battery life and stick with a desktop for at home
im not entirely new to all this
Australian dollars r less than American dollars right?
like I hated bringing the dell to uni because of the abysmal battery life and the jet engines for fans
I believe 1usd is about 1.7aud
Alr good.
I got the hp when I had problems with the dell laptop and ended up using it as my uni laptop when I went to classes even when I got the replacement
U can dm me anytime for advice or anything
sure let me send u a friend req rq
Alr lemme cook
Bet
what even is mr army man doing?
Israel Kamakawiwa'ole
Just putting his hands behind
It’s wat they do
lol cuts off way way too soon
and loops too quick
Wat do u need again?
Standing to Attention
Laptop right?
Something with a max of 32GB for a laptop
Bet
Kamihamihaa
Yup
IDC about ddr5
:p
Wat about ram?
Max cap of 32
K
I wanna avoid soldered ram
Alr bet

Hehe
@slender scaffold go bed
I gotta run multiple VMs on it
Hallo beerise
Nu!
Any brand preferences?
Nyo
Bet
Ya!
No hinge problems
I'll be yeeting the camera and mic from laptops anyway
And the wifi card
So brand doesn't bother me
Should we find dell?
Aw alr

To what
Dell
Legion 9
It's only for uni

They are a pain in the ass repair + bios wise
Dell is just fine, but mainly just for work, haven't had a Dell personal machine in a very very long time
I'm used to repairing laptops lol
although my 1999 Dell is going strong
Trust me, you dont want to repair those shits
I have
My go to: Acer, Lenovo, Asus
Primarily latitudes
I can’t find anything under $1k
So wat now?
Doesn't need to be under
Just around that mark
Give or take 200
Trust me, from someone who has worked on thousands, if not, 10's of thousands of laptops both repair and imaging, stay away from Dell and HP.
Try dell XPS 16 Laptop
dell business grade is great, dell personal grade is not the vibe at all
It looks good
Victus are fine
hp are alright but I've heard horror stories
No Dell, no hp, please, God no
Haven't had issues with my old victus 15
I like dell more
I will say, working on the dell g15 5520 was a nightmare
dell support are abysmal
and the thermals are just as bad
But yeah, I'm just looking at recommendations rn
Trust us, stay far away from Dell and HP
I gave u one
Astronomers have identified a colossal water vapor reservoir surrounding a distant quasar, challenging our understanding of the early universe. Located 12 billion light-years from Earth, this cosmic water cloud contains an astonishing 140,000 trillion times the amount of water present on our planet. This remarkable discovery provides a rare glim...
I was getting ready to take dell to small claims court they were that difficult
@knotty valve
Yayyy
Ohhhhh
and then trying to install liquid metal I'm sure I had to undo 40 screws to do it
Will do
Go with lenovo
Go Acer, Lenovo, or Asus, or something else. Those 3 are my absolute go to
Or acer
Lenovo and Asus are my top 2

acer I don't like because of build quality
Soudnds more like my experience with HP lol
and yeah Asus is lovely, Acer I can't speak much of since I haven't owned one since 2012
lenovo are good as long as you reinstall the os from scratch, I don't trust their software after the adware and spyware incidents
I have Lenovo
acer do have some nice laptops but generally I'd say they feel flimsier
Acer never comes up in recommendations these days, I'd probably pass on them
see I've never had to deal with HP support because my second hand laptop's never had any problems
Man, I've never had Lenovo stock, always blown away OS's
yeah for sure
where as Asus has acented to being easily one of the top tier
like asus is top tier from what I've heard
razer are apparently decent support wise too tbf
but I can't vouch for their laptops, I don't know
yep typing on one right now, and no regrets buying again
Razer directly competes with the laptop that I have, but awful stability and support issues from what I've heard
i know it might br too early to ask but have you seen any job posting with PT1 certificate mentioned? Just curious
like they use the ultra series and arc gpus and I remember needing to install drivers on the windows installer just to see the SSDs
Yeah MSI is better than they used to be, still kinda budget focused choice though
idk, the MSI ones we had at work were a nightmare
even now they're still a bit problematic at times
Lenovo ThinkBook 16 G6?
yeah I literally only know in general how their gaming ones are, would never be my pick though
like they were bought brand new last year
G7
Seems to match my requirements so far tbh
our work ones are generally oriented around gaming because some workloads involve heavier computing
we've been deploying some ThinkBooks at work lately, but I couldn't tell you much about them
I work 800 miles away so never touched one lol
I've imaged hundreds and thousands of thinkbooks, easy to work on, dont know performance wise
I just don't completely trust Lenovo due to what they did to my beloved, Motorola lol
the way I think about it is
ASUS: high quality laptops and good support
Lenovo: Decent quality, decent support
HP: better laptops than dell and tend to work but when they don't the support can be a nightmare
Dell: mid quality laptops and support so bad that it's bordering on malicious I swear
Is the Ultra 5 really that worth it tho?
People with OSCP what you think about PT1 certificate? (as a comparison)
Speeds seem no better than going an i5-13
if you asked me to rank it it would be in that order 🤣
In vms prolly nope
Yeah that's gonna be my main use case lmao
Welp save some papers then
Agree but
HP: frequent hardware issues which require low level repairs, bulging batteries, screen ribbon cables failing. HPE is another matter though
that's fair, I mean I had driver issues on my G5 745 but that was a windows issue, they withdrew support for my laptop after I'd installed it so the display drivers went kaput regularly
Dell support has been decent to us though
but that laptop would be 6 years old now and is still going good no problem, good battery life, no issues with anything else
heck they freaking replaced a laptop keyboard because a rich client of our complained that the paint had scratched off of his backlight Ctrl key
dell though I had several arguments with
I can't believe they honored that lol
I had to threaten dell
Why
like they were a nightmare
Why
Honestly they've always been great to us but fair we are a Dell partner
I like dell ngl
👀
I'd just never buy one for personal anymore, now if it was the 90s and early 00s yeah go all in lol
May stick to the Lenovo ThinkBook 16 then since it's in budget and has the memory cap I need

all Y2K era Dells I have are in perfect working order
Alr. My first laptop was Lenovo
It was core i3 I think
My first was an Asus
so I'd sent my laptop off to them several times for repairs even going so far as to put a sheet of paper on it diagnosing the issue, steps for diagnosis, what needed doing and explicitly what not to do and why. They ignored it, did what I told them not to do, it then broke a week later and they refused to give me a new laptop because I was out of warranty, I'd explained to them that under british law they still have to treat it as under warranty for the next 5 years and had to cite the exact section of the law, pass it on to their legal department etc. before I got a replacement laptop
Dang
ah yeah I'm sure that will happen without these professional connections
My Lenovo was decent. My dell was amazing
But then
It got hacked

And the performance went down
That's more your choice of CPU to be fair lol, Bulldozer and Piledriver were infamous
I had so many issues with it, when I first got it the ssd was overheating to a point that it'd turn off, I sent it to them and they diagnosed it as not turning on, so they replaced the motherboard, then diagnosed that they couldn't install windows which they fixed by reinstalling windows and then sent it back to me with the same issue
So wat ram u doing for?
I say having built a Piledriver A10 desktop before lol
Lenovo ThinkBook 16 G6 Grey Business Laptop, Core i7-1355U, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 16inch WUXGA IPS, Iris Xe Graphics, WiFi 6E, BT 5.3, FHD Cam, 45Wh Battery, 1.7 kg, Win11 Pro, Lenovo 1 Year Onsite Warranty at Scorptec.com.au, the online Gaming PC, server computer and technology experts. Fast delivery to Australia.
Dang. How long ago did this happen?
It has a max of 64
lol
And it's ddr5
maybe a year and a half ago, I'm not sure now
Fair price ngl
Why ain’t u going for 1tb?
I have a 1TB drive already
damn Burrish, never heard such insane horror stories from Dell. Besides maybe Percision 7770 or whatever
Yh decent
I had to custom modify a heatsink to fit in the case, got the temps way lower, and then the laptop started killing my SSD NAND controllers. I sent it off to them stating that there was a motherboard level issue and not to just change the broken drive as it'd already killed three ssds of mine and was obviously not the ssd
Dang
Fair enough
either way yeah Dell is fine for work, not for personal is my current stance anyways
a week later, a short somewhere on the board started tripping the charger out
Omg now I’m starting to doubt dell😭
lol unless you get beastly servers like mine
Cause u got a custom pc
but yeah same vibe with HP Consumer (junk) and HPE (lovely)
checked the charging port and nothing wrong there, they then argued with me about the laptop design when I spoke to them and said "I've checked for shorts on the port etc." and had to explain that their piece of paper or pdf was wrong because I have the laptop open in front of me
afaik they don't really do that anymore? But fair I don't do any of the quoting for work, that's procurement department
I have had acer, Lenovo, dell, hp, Mac and few others
that was the point where I then had to argue the law with them because I said, I look forward to my replacement in the post, and they said not to expect one because I was out of warranty
In terms of laptops
How long did it take to replace?
I've had all of those except for Lenovo, add Toshiba for 90s
Oh
and I said "the issues with this laptop have been occuring since within warranty and you failed to fix it when I sent it you" under the consumer rights act, you are required by law to issue either a refund or a replacement of equivilent spec
Dang tough luck
once I'd got it approved by them it was only a week
but yes I have zero complaints with Asus these days, but I've never needed to engage support
I wasn’t even around in the 90s
but it was maybe 4 weeks of back and fourth and because I had uni work to do I ended up spending £200 on a temporary laptop
but even great hardware and great support can still rub someone the wrong way
Dang
I was working and writing some of the most passive aggressive emails I've sent in my life
Still decent
Yh
my SO refuses to ever buy Valve hardware again after all the issues he had with his Steam Deck... when I've had none and know this is not common
I even sent a picture of the document I'd written and stuck to the laptop when I sent it them because I knew they wouldn't look at it
Did u archive them lmao
I've had two Steam Decks and both work flawlessly lol
I did, bear with
lol
lol
that was the email I sent after getting the laptop back a fourth time and they failed to correctly fix it
but yeah these days hardware buying is very personal choice and no great one size fits all
Yh lol
also worth noting, when i first sent it to them they sent me it back with stripped screws on the back which I bollocked them for
like their diagnosis and repair teams are dreadful
me wanting "macbook like but for gaming" is very at odds which most of the rest of the goals of everyone else lol
This email reminds me of the emails an Ai sent to the Feds recently
that was their response to that email
It basically depends on users preference
Wsp Nex
mhmm
that was my response to that response lmao
really the real answer is often "build a desktop" but nah even I fell out of that lol
Hey, how's it goin?
Mac r bad for gaming in my opinion
obviously
and then this follow up email when it completely shat itself
Lmao
Great as always. Hru
I was discribing thin and light gaming laptops with premium macbook like quality lol
Tired as always.
unfortunately I don't have emails where I cite the law as they rang me up and I laid it out to them there and then
U did archive them. Nice
Xd. Still u can’t do gaming on Mac
it was funny though because I cited the act, the year it was released and then the exact subsection and clause, all they had to say was "I'm not trained for that but I'll pass it on to our legal team"
Welp. Take rest man
Aw
K
You technically can, I mean, I won't die on this hill but that was never what I was saying I wanted
Lmao
honestly, watching me angry and frustrated is incredible, I impress myself at times
Welp, too late, I'm already doing another room.
I’m gonna be dead tired tomorrow
I used to play high end roblox games on my school Mac all day and it used to get so hot
I've just got this guy on the way which both looks understated and high quality while still being able to game:
U be like “those were the days”
Dell is great as long as you have the 100% coverage support plan for the device
Dang white hat man. Wat room u doin?
I've described my anger as like a roller coaster, trivial things I might sound audibly irritated, more angry and I go non-verbal, more angry and I come back very calm and almost calculated
it's amazing
Why?
yeah work wise we do, which is why I was kinda saying probably not great for personal these days
Monday Monitor
It’s 4 am and I’ve got to be up early
I lowkey thought this was an image from google
I can imagine that but their basic support is truly abysmal
I mean it is, I used Google Image search to find an example? lol
Yup. It’s better than hp in my opinion
like identifying non-existing problems and fixing them in ways that don't make sense is dell basic support's specialty
Haha
Ooof
I will never get my head around them stating that windows couldn't be installed which they fixed by reinstalling windows, that was legendary on dell's part
Honestly not my problem these days..... I have a desktop and a steam deck for travel, and a defcon lappy that gets pulled out for conferences. Work gives me 2 laptops, neither of which is my problem to maintain
Oh lol
I had smth in my mind but nvm
just a promo shot
From a right to repair perspective, they both suck.
yeah that's fair, I do miss using a desktop day to day but since getting my replacement laptop I've had no issues which is good because I changed the SSD, upgraded the ram to more than dell states is possible and installed liquid metal haha
Dell is good overall
Hello Chris. Just want to update you that I have sorted two of the bugs I had on the files
and found out the remaining two bugs are something beyond my reach (as I am not the creator/author of the files and I am not proficient in VBA).
But it is still a good news there are some progress!
Thank you for suggesting those links, they are very useful!
Gave +1 Rep to @umbral geyser (current: #1436 - 3)
💀
Historically HP has been even worse, but fair it's been years since I've taken a recent Dell apart
I'm never giving them another penny is all I'll say
True
The dell was a nightmare to take apart as well actually, the g3 15 3500 was easy, the new one, not so much
But fixing friends and family HPs have been enough for a lifetime
Wsp Juan
going to make the next one pay for my services at this point lol
to get to the mobo you had to take nearly everything out, suddenly had 40 screws on my desk. Had a couple of mystery screws I had to figure out at the end, ended up going to the local dc group, having a few bevvies and figuring the rest out while tipsy
sorry your HDD is dying so you need data recovery, your laptop ribbon cable is dying, and your thermals are awful?
typical hp
also the time where dell tried to call me on a premium number so when I rang them back, I ended up being charged 10 quid because I didn't realise and they kept throwing me back and fourth between the warranty and non-warranty because the non-warranty team already knew about the consumer rights act and the warranty team did not
saved data, reseat ribbon cable, blow out fans. Sounds simple but holy crap they are hellish to disassemble
that phone call was such a waste of time too, they kept trying to diagnose it after I did it for them, I'd follow their instructions and then they'd say "yep it's broken", like I've been trying to tell you for the past hour and a half 😭
Yeah I think that's just consumer stuff unfortuantely
again business grade's no worries and I don't know about their consumer stuff since their reshuffle but as of april 2023, absolutely not 🤣
workign with Dell professionally they just do the thing basically no questions asked
again I still can't believe they replaced the laptop keyboard of our rich client just because of a scratched key top lol
yeah, I've stated to non-business buyers considering dell, if you're ready for an argument with them if things break then they're actually really good value, otherwise steer clear
yeah ss stated, great for business, not sure I'd recommend them for personal anymore
been decades since I've had one for myself personal
and I thought microsoft support was abysmal when I told them their updates were purging all network drivers and they said have you tried switching from ethernet to wifi
But I can say 1999, 2002, 2016 Dell server, and massive variety of Optiplexes are going just fine for me personally
yeah I've no issues with their business grade stuff
Is the splunk basic room not free?
and actually would prefer a dell server over hp
like hp has all that subscription stuff, I don't know if dell does now but I don't think they do (for like the idrac stuff)
yeah half the reason I got it was for dat iDRAC, lovely
like iirc hp has an equivilent but it's a subscription based service
as long as you have a licensed iDRAC that's for life, mine was used so just inherited that
yeah exact;ly
that is insane if iLO or whatever the HP ligths out is requires continual sub though, never heard of that
Always heard and somewhat experienced great stuff from HPE so kinda suprising
sounds good, I don't directly administrate any of them, we have some weird kidna "hands off" clients where they're multinational franchises with HPE so I just did the most basic of admin for them
ah okie
yeah I'd heard it from someone else but no it's definitely not subscription based from what I can see
lol maybe you're thinking of the Cisco Maraki routers which blew my mind when I heard that basic functionality was behind a sub.
Like that is not tolerable
But again I don't admin any of them, so that's just what I've heard
there's that and it could well be that the person I heard it from confused the package of 3yr tech support as being a subscription for iLO
no clue, but yeah definitely not subscription based with HP
makes sense
I know i shopped around with some of the HPE miniservers before I settled on my used PowerEdge so yeah makes sense. Alarm bells would have been going off for me lol
nah that's fair haha
tell you what I need to do a network rejigging soon i think
I've got a draytek router to get configured and in place
Yeah I want to upgrade everything to 2.5Gbps myself
I just want to get a 2860 downstairs and move the netgear r8000 upstairs to replace my dsl-ac68u
I want vlans haha
My SO finally let me take over network admin so I inhereted three Unifi APs and a series of shitty routers that he didnt' do enough research on lol
I will want to buy a managed switch as well though at some point
I just happen to collect routers as they appear in front of me
just ended up deploying Unifi Gateway Max and self hosted server since, I was like half way there already
I've an older virgin media hitron router, two/three of their superhubs, a plusnet hub one, an asus dsl-ac68u, a draytek vigor 2680 and a netgear r8000
virgin send us a new one each year (because we end up on a new contract because we use a middleman for the bills to split it easier between housemates) and never ask for the old ones back
@grok is this true?!? Yes look at #announcements and etc
shoot wrong reply
@woven pendant
still nothing will beat my fave gal, WRT54G, god I loved those things lol
with custom firmware just unf, lovely
nah that's fair
and yeah ironic their GPL violation is yeah what opened up the whole custom firmware scene in the first place
iirc it was mainly over their busybox implimentation and more
my favourite custom firmware scene will always be the PSP
but yeah that's why dd-wrt and OpenWRT have those names lol
yeah PSP homebrew was just lovely
ahh yeah, no I remember hearing that now that you mention it
even now those lot are still creating new stuff
like they've figured out how to emulate service batteries with arduinos and how to get them to work on the 3000 etc.
mhmm just not quite as vibarant as it used to be, but Vita scene is very healthy since it inherets PSP support
ah neat, yeah Pandora's Battery was a huge huge deal back on PSP 1000s for sure
oh for sure but there's still some really interesting stuff a completely new cfw option came out in the past year or so for perm custom firmware on 3000
but they figured out the pandora on the 3000, e1000 and the GO
nice nice
and fully understand the one-wire uart communication so now you can get a usb to uart adapter and run a python script or use an arduino etc.
I actually did have to save a Firmware 1.5 PSP 1000 system I bricked (custom themes before they were stable enoughy) and yeah saved it with Pandroa's Battery
the vita scene's also pretty cool although it was an underrated console and didn't get nearly as much attention for a long time
but yeah this was wayyyyyy back in the day
I saved a psp 2000 I thought permenantly bricked (I thought it was a 3000)
that was a fun one because I made the pandora battery by opening the battery and modifying it haha
don't mess with flash0 unless you are ready for the consiquences lol. But yeah the homebrew progressed enough to not even make that a possibility practically
off the top of my head, for a slim battery you cut the trace labelled 19
and then when done, draw it back on with a pencil
haha yeah
I was just talking about a similar silly unlocking thing with old GPUs ealier in another channel
just draw in the trace lol
been there done that haha, now though you've got built in recovery menus on cfw so even if you brick it and don't have a pandora it should still be save-able
yep sure didn't exist in 1.5 era, those were really early days
like thing ddc9 but built directly into the firmware haha
oh yeah, I think when I got mine I was on v6.00
funny to think as well, think it was v1.5 that you could just request kernel access and get it because they forgot to disable it when trying to beat the nds launch
that and the functions they forgot to remove that allowed writing to battery serials 🤣
yeah around CFW 3.60 era or whaver is probably around when I stopped so it's been a while
the latest would be 6.61 and the common ones for that were 6.61 ME or PRO CFW
lol I still remember the days of DarkAlex and etc, mhmm
but now there's infinity, infinity 2.0 and I believe a 6.61 M33 is in progress, I believe the last m33 version was 5.33
I have a feeling they're still on the scene but not as active
Yeah idk, I think they intentionally dropped out after Sony low key threats. But I don't remember the deets
balika011 is a new name I believe and they've done huge amounts for the scene and do loads of different things
I’m more impressed with noirs 18 year steam account, damn near my whole life
hah thanks!
I think they ended up on the down low but I'm not sure if they completely quit, either way most of their stuff went public before that and has been massively helpful
Half Life 1 GoldSrc bundle was my first ever purchase since that's what I could run on my early 00s computers at the time
Good morning
yeah there's loads of psp stuff now on github
We’ve been spoiled with comp power this last decade for sure 😂
hah yeah, I'm being greedy myself upgrading a 2021 machine to 2025 lol
https://github.com/balika011/DC-M33/tree/661 this is the 6.61 branch of the M33 project originally made by the M33 team
yeah for sure scene names that I remember
in fact actually
I didn't realise this at first, you know trinity rgh on the xbox360?
lol I do remember when I was finally getting into infosec professionally, it almost blew my mind, wait these console exploits are the same as security vulnerabilites literally.... they were just always filed away in my head as "good things" since they let us do what we want with our hardware
how you could flash it with picoflasher and use a rpi pico, that was developed by balika too
yeah for sure, I've always found modding on consoles particularly interesting just because it's a slightly different environment
lol I always knew they were exploits, but felt a bit different in this whole context
yeah for sure
https://github.com/X360Tools/PicoFlasher
it wasn't entirely balika but they helped develop it
I am a Alien
another name, khubic2 developed some stuff in the past couple of years for the psp
yeah, still very active
https://github.com/khubik2/pysweeper?tab=readme-ov-file this was the one that went through how to connect to uart for all different psp models for service mode
nice!
you do much homebrew/cfw with other consoles as well? Wii and 3DS were by far faves of mine for such
Now give me all your money
I've a modded 3ds, two modded psps, a modded psvita (I need to change the joystick at some point), a rghed xbox 360 and then a stock switch (not a hackable model)
good stuff!
the xbox mod was interesting, was my first time scratching away to expose the copper under a via and then soldering to it haha
Yeah I do actually have a hackable Switch but I lost interest by the time it was meaningful and my SO snatched it for his crazy Pokemon schemes
was absolutely shit scared of breaking the xbox
mhmm I bet lol
yeah that's fair, I'll probably do it when the switch support goes
I think I have a series of writeups you'd love
but the 3ds was a nice easy mod
yeah absolutely, would love to have a read
10/10 just hardware architecture and how they work of consoles
usually discusses security as well
nah I'll give that a read, thank you 😄
all free to read there but you can buy them as books and ebooks
ah class
lol I bought every single one as an ebook to support him. Don't have physical space for books but would be nice to have them
But indeed, I'm obsessed with console hardware and specs, exploits and more
that's really cool 😄 I've got some up-coming trips as well so they'll be good reads when I'm on the go etc.
To bad this next Xbox will be the last Microsoft produces
lol you're not wrong
maybe a hot take but I think that's for the better
They're going hard on diversifying almost to the point of becoming a Sega
Bad take, without competition the console field will die out
I think that's for the better though, encourages people to move to computers
where people have more freedom
Yeah Nintendo kinda has their blue ocean strat, so it's realistically jsut been MS vs Sony for last couple gens
as much as I like consoles, I like consoles because emulations are not the same
yeah lol 360 was my last "real console" besides just buying obligiory Nintendo consoles
like handheld consoles are different but regular consoles are just naff imo, just shitty computers with loads of restrictions
Yeah exceedingly boring
Last Nintendo I had was the switch in 5th grade to Pokémon black 😂
I would like to see microsoft and sony focus on developing computer games and move away from consoles
Erm the DS you mean?
especially as the main argument for most console gamers is "I like using a controller" like you can still use a controller on pc 🤣
like in this day and age, unless it's handheld there's no reason for it to be a console
Of course, it was 3D I thought I was cool
Wasn’t really 3D but 😂
okay 3DS then, but yeah Pokemon Black is a DS game
hell sony and microsoft are both making their games accessible within the computer market now, giving less incentive to invest in their consoles
Oh you mean the graphics themselves, well sure but Diamond and Perl were also 3D graphics in that regard
Nah Nintendo 3Ds, wasn’t really 3D
even switch and stuff, like they could move their market onto pc and then still have the software on handhelds and pcs
Yeah us PC gamers have only gotten to reap the benefits, just lovely
Won’t surprise me if Microsoft moves into chip development
honestly I like portable consoles like the 3ds, I so badly wanna buy one and probably will soon
exactly, like imo this is a step that should've been reached years ago
older handhelds are elite for sure but modern consoles are no different than computers
they either have arm/intel chips and amd/nvidia gpus
Yeah 3DS still holds up well and every single one is easy to homebrew
hah at least Nintendo kept the PowerPC dream alive until the switch
only difference really now between consoles and computers is the OS and the restrictions
that was neat at least
hell yeah brotherrrrrrrrrrr
I plan to get one for that. Never played majoras mask but I own it now.
nice!
for your future purchase: https://3ds.hacks.guide/
A complete guide to 3DS custom firmware
for a college project we actually used a 3ds to dump DS games specifically which I found interesting (boot9strap i think). It involved that guide I think
it was for a sorta boring easy class like "ethics" and whatnot in computer science last semester.
I think the + of consoles is the environmental adaptability, I use to play 360 on road trips, no way in hell I’m carrying my pc to the car 😂
but there's laptops and handheld computers now like the steamdeck
tbh it's super easy now, we actually were gonna use the rom dumper I was making but I have a problem with the led screen currently so never got past that (we were so close to testing the dumping of gba games)
because if that's your complaint lol, nothing stoping you from... yep Steam Deck and more
and there's the asus handheld computer and some others
like now there really is no benefit to a console
kinda wish I got the steam deck but I do enjoy the switch, even if it is underpowered.
didn't xbox get leaked they have a portable in the development?
I have both, barely touch the Switch, but I am hyped for Switch 2 and have it pre-ordered
it's not leaked so much as strongly rumored
I wish I had the money for switch 2, I'm still a college student so ifykyk
totally fair
see I won't pay for a switch 2 because I dislike nintendo as a business
How so?
Then you have no leg to stand on with your argement lol
360 is literally harder to use portablly than a laptop or PC handheld
they're very heavy handed on the cfw scene and like people using any intellectual property even if not profiting
Oh sure but that's nothing new in the scene
I remember they tried suing themself for copyright infringement when they were developing a game
but yes it is unfortuante how hard they go on the IP stuff
just carry it with an electric generator, sure it may be heavy but smh then you simply aren't a true 360 electric generator fan
Sega has the right approach
and then there's the cfw scene where they didn't just sue the guy, they sued him to bankruptsy and beyond
"oh damn you devs are doing cool things, wanna just make our next Sonic game?"
what nintendo is doing though isn't really new, so I am not surprised what is going on.
Like they're brutal about it, they were even going after pokemon based roblox games back in the day
To be fair iirc that wasn't Atmosphere, that was the flash cart which was poorly disguised piracy
nah it included other groups as well where it was modchips for enabling homebrew as well
the pokemon game was essentially using assets they made iirc
in terms of roblox
so really not surprised. I don't like nintendo operates but to be fair, they are consistent when it comes to enforcing their protection of their IP.
nah, some of them yeah which was fair game for nintendo but a lot of them were custom drawn and developed assets
not sure what roblox has to do with anything but lol
I won't play devils advocate for Nintendo tho, yes they are overly litigious
people developed games that were based off pokemon and they all got purged
same with emuparadise, the archive of all past and present consoles and games
I mean that's Roblox lol, PalWorld is a whole different matter
emuparadise aboslutely sucked though, but we're starting to get in gray territory
that got taken down, sony content and all just because of nintendo's legal threats, for like gameboys etc.
that's fair but literally the entire site ended up purged
they weren't even good at properly preserving games which if you have any leg you want to stand on, that's the one
bad dumps galore lol
tbf mainly referring to pokemon brown(?) if that is what I'm recalling, I'm drunk as shit by accident so apologies if I am wrong (turns out I am light weight)
that's why we have real preservation projects which do not distribute any ROMs, just the hashes and complete information of what's required to have a "perfect dump"
i never had issues with that but my issue lies with nintendo erasing any preservation of their games and consoles if it doesn't make them money in the process, even for like 30 year old consoles where they no longer can earn money on the sale of games as they're all second hand
I have to agree, Nintendo's weird policy currently of a subscription service for their older games is stupid. Piracy is a service issue, not monetary most of the time.
there was project pokemon, pokemon brickbronze and literally loads of others that all got purged
my argument would be, if the games become difficult to obtain, having those libraries of games is imperative to the preservation of that console's history
Again I hate playing devil's advocate but come on I'm a mod in emulation communities. Yes I get it, I'm frustrated by it too, but it's far from gone
emulation will save my marriage
it's mainly that I understand piracy costing a business money but when they don't make the games anymore, it actually doesn't lose nintendo any money
That's why we have communities who care more about actual preservation vs lol pirate the game bro
like they don't make gameboy games anymore so does it cost them anything for those roms to be public? because if people buy the games, it's not coming from nintendo it's coming from a third party who contributes no money to nintendo
I understand concern with present consoles and dealing with that to prevent piracy but for older consoles I feel like it's completely reasonable
Unfortunatelly we can only argue so much about how moral or just it is when they are practing their legal rights to protect their IP. Trust me I hate IP law, but this is the law of the land

oh yeah, it's legally valid on their end, it's just a moral dilemma, like yes it's their property to do with as they please but also it does them no harm to allow people to download games for retro consoles where the games become hard to obtain as time progresses
It's much better when you get people together who care about preserving a legacy for future generations and do it low key and legally. Dump your own games, make sure they match the well known hashes of good dumps because the community has come together to catalog them all, etc etc
even that's legally questionable now unfortunately
under british law it's now illegal to backup your dvds etc. iirc
lol watch out if I find libdvdcss on your machine
like preservation of media is being made harder and harder because of pressure from businesses
isn't that also used during the reading of dvds in a dvd drive though/
I swear I've had to load it to read some dvds in vlc before
I won't lie I was told to stop here when I was talking about legally ripping the media I owned in my own region so I won't get into it much further, it very much depends on where you live
so potentially best to just move on lol
yeah I get that, it's a bit of a weird one because I know some countries are fine with dumping your own medias for backups and then some countries really don't like it
Yes, because paid DVD software back in the day paid a license to the MPEG Consortium or whatever standards body for it
so using libdvdcss is a bypass of that
like iirc in the UK you could legally download films etc. but you broke the law if you shared it, like if you torrented or shared a platform with pirated content that'd be illegal. Obviously it's changed now so downloading is also illegal
Yeah unfortuantely sounds like things are getting worse in the UK unfortuantely
Laws in the UK are actually pretty on top of tech as it changes for both better and worse
wild situation when US is better about fair use for once lol
we should obviously just make everything free and make sure its only free for me, then I'll sell a license for everything(tm) to y'all
that is wild and never knew that
yeah I agree with that, it's a shame tbh
only now read your name and I love it
Like if it were legal I'd absolutely go and have a media archive of all my dvds and do away with my usb dvd drive
Yeah we just kinda settled a lot of this in the VHS era pretty early (in the US)
I am not suggesting anything whatsoever and any excuse I am very drunk.
just do that?
Just hiding in there
I'm only slightly tipsy, not quite there yet lol
unfortunately can't in the UK
tbf I am light weight, trying out more IPAs.
while I might be on no sleep, I've not been drinking as I'm gonna head into the office in an hour haha
And we'd have two dedicated Blu-ray drives in our server flashed with custom firmware for our purposes, hypothetically
IPAs aren't my thing at all
yeah IPAs are usually too hopsy for me personally
yeah not fond of IPAs but I have had some nice ones from a local brewery
idk I prefer IPAs to regular beer and thats from someone who used to only like sangria
but I'm just drinking 5% ABV Angry Orchard apple ale lol
lol I'm drinking ipa that is around 9% (had two pints around that and now one more can.)
how big is the bottle
stout and cider but will avoid anything in-between
They're standard cans, I just have plenty lol
anyway time for me to have a shower so I'm all ready for my final day in the office under my current job title
cider is nice but I had a case as a new person to alcohol the night before my first internship and I was so hung over (it was angy orchard)
how many are you going to drink
Sounds good, was great chatting! And good luck tomorrow with that whole thing
I won't say final time but it could be final final, they're gonna try and keep my access to the office even though I won't be working for them anymore 🤣
i may well be back in 15 depending on the time
No worries either way
guess I should hop off too so I don't drunk text but know that for anyone reading this that you matter and that just because the world may seem scary, you can do it. do what you need to do to survive, love yourself.
It's a bit after midnight for me anyways so who knows
totally fair stack, you're fine too, just do what you need to do c:
but thanks for the encouragement!
❤️ hell yeah bruther/sista
anyone feeling charitable? I am having problems connecting to a room over RDP for some reason and was wondering if anyone with more experience would be able to help
#room-help is usually where we discuss this sorta thing. How about detail which room there and what issue you're having c:
Gm buddy's
Hello
Heya, you sure went hard on the whole God of War thing there
As their bio says, no
Try running xfreerdp /v:<IP> /u:<username> /p:<password> +clipboard /cert:ignore
hello wassup guyz
hello
Hallo
buddy, shall we create a ctf challenges server?
thanks we solved it, too many lingering broken tunnel interfaces to OpenVPN
hey Elizi
Eliz-ard. Sorry, it just came into my mind for no apparent reason...
i know it just decides if its gonna work sometimes
I'm a bit more partial to Remenia or whatever on Linux but sure nothing wrong with raw xfreerdp
try learning red team network defense from windows while only using tethering data
heylo people
Hey Elizabeth, what do you think of my new status?
lol ouch
can i ask a question here
if i get root then it's illegal darn isp and their rules 😦
Hey Elizabeth, guess who's speaking at a bsides finally 😎
meanwhile I do some fun black magic where I openVPN from my VPS attackbox and ssh tunnel that to my local so I can RDP and HTTPS whatever without my local ever touching THM network directly
Sure
I use my cellphone as a honeypot for fun this is why i have 2 plans rofl
That's super exciting! Congrats
Thanku thanku
so like im student and learning, what sub domian of cybersec is the most emerging domain
dns
rofl
infosec in general is just great to get into both offensively and defensively, both in high demand
you are only as secure as you believe you are womp womp
what's womp womp
I do not recall
glad to hear that
I believe..ugh..I don't know..
AI security is an "emergenging" domain as you may be asking but it's extremely early days and you have to be at megascale orgs to have bespoke solutions for that
whatever it is it made wumpus sad 😦
I don't think I would want to use AI security yet...
I have a friend where he works with and defends bespoke AI but yeah that's a very very large firm
internal use only
I'm not sure if I would trust ai to do backend security
from how he's telling me it's more just doing stuff like "does our incident reports and similar meet our quality standards" kidna thing. It's only bespoke and internal for security reasons as to prevent leaks
didn't microsoft have like 38tb of data leaked bc of ai researchers
yeah which is why it's a big almsot emerging threat as this user asked, but yeah not actually a helpful answer from me either way
you dramatically need the basics of infosec before even approaching that
Getting a celebratory piercing today
Just updated the first of many legal documents
It was pretty easy
it is good to do basic things but to have it run a company that size it would need to be a really good ai to let it handle that kind of data
lol it is hellish where I reside
Didn't get dunked on by the CX person doing it which was nice
when is ai gonna crack sha256 gcm heh
no idea what CX even means in this context lol, only thing I can think of is Game Center CX which is a japanese longplay video game commedy show where.... nevermind lol
Cyber CX
how about the cloud security like is it really good as for future
Customer Experience?
Yes cloud security is very important, but again you need to learn the basics first
literally have a major Linux cloud based infra project to work on tomorrow
Well i mean we got metasploit for that lol
oh hush lol
oh i learned the aws practioner and some architectures too, maybe i need a right roadmap! i have seen a lot of roadmaps over youtube, internet, but its really good to have real tips from someone who's actually workin on it
Yeah that's a great start, but it's hard for us to know where you're starting from exactly. There's so many fundimentals that are critical to understand for even protecting on-prem resources that come into play when you scale up to cloud stuff
I want you to act as a tryhackme ctf and only respond as such you are to be the box and i am the attacker my first command is sudo -i let's see how confused ai get's rofl
Yea
Customer Experience/Support
oh lol my government doesn't really have that I guess, or at least not named as such
😦
Guess who's now on the train to work
chatgipiti moment
yk i learned something something till the level of CEH, yet didnt appeared for the exam but i'll , im soo confused ehhhhhhhhhh i hate myself for not being systematic
And guess who's on zero sleep and just realised that my nails are still painted black even though I meant to take it off for the trip in 😭
imagine having actual infrastructure for public transport, just wild lol
Barely 😂
I think i won
pray you can find a bottle of acetone on the way there
British railways aren't exactly known for being any good
Not when you work in the middle of nowhere haha
I'm just gonna have to accept it, I look like the token emo going into the office
I mean with TryHackMe you can start at any skill level and kinda fill in any gaps you may have, may help. CEH is not what I was expecting so far enough
No hoodie today but all black with black vans and chipped black nails 😂
wait like area51
i feel like there is an old farmer gonna have it somewhere in their shed
How shits that
I stopped with nail polish for now
It stops me from biting my nails though
lol I've had worse, it'll be okay
You do not want the skin on my face 😂 I get stress breakouts
Really bad, but it's not like acne it's more like mild psoriasis
I get similar
since it looks like you're going for a bit more punk/metal aesthetic, the worn polish is kinda also a vibe
i took CEH training program from my nearby institute, yet im 20 yo and still learning. yeah im busy with my university stuff, the moment i get vacation ill be surely goin through tryhackme's module
When I get stressed all my skin becomes inflamed and when I scratch it, I scratch till my skin starts peeling
the skin on my arm actually kinda look diseased.....
wat
True but I am a bloke heading into an office where people on other teams where shirts, it's one thing that half our team wear hoodies and jeans
My work we all have to wear casual wear
It was bad enough when I was in a meeting and the camera at the bottom of the screen showed my fingers and I got asked if this was the programmer femboy pipeline in progress 😂
bunch of little spots :v
reasons why i like to wear a cardigan or jacket to hide it
Our office is also unlabelled
I get that
On the plus hand, our office is very relaxed
the problem is getting people to pay you always make sure you have a contract signed lesson learned
Like I came in one day having not been in for a bit and someone had been breakdancing in the office the previous week haha
Yeah I was about to say there’s this magical drug which helps make your skin smooth lol
Estrogen
does it start with E?
shrooms oh wait im out of scope my bad
just start learning Rust because I hear the programmer socks are manditory
Lmaoo
But more stress means more breakout which means more stress and stress then means redbull
the pattern and color matters and depends on the language
That'll be my response to the lad in the office who likes rust if he says about my nails 😂
I don't want to code malware again tho 😦
i might be wrong but i think most SOCs if they are outside of a bigger office are unlabelled
it's a slippery slope... lol
All of our offices are unlabelled
I'm still wating on html6
See I wanna code malware but not for bad actors haha
Including our testing range for satellites
We do it the same way that the defence department does
norad you say
uhh lol
That'd be my dream job if not pentesting, software implants as the industry likes to call them
Or proof of concepts too
I work for a SATCOM company as BT so not quite 😅
oh wait so telnet
lol
Our systems use SSH believe it or not
as long as it isn't centos rofl then it might as well be a botnet xD
private key at least?
See I love my current work cause I effectively do DevOps and research, we get to play with wifi, radios and all sorts
I mean the constellations we rent from an actual engineering company for satellites is essentially a botnet
Yah
Constantly learning, it's what got me into WiFi security on thm
God that's lovely
very true ^_^ I deep dove into osmocom a while back
yeah Wifi security is actually literally what got me into infosec in the 00s
And the office is so chill, like I'm switching regions but they're gonna keep my access to the office so I can have a nosy and see people even though I work remote
mine was vault 7
Heya, used to use THM earlier but didn't hang around in the discord, finally joined in to get some updates on the PT1 for eJPT holders giveaway
vault 7 made me be like uhh what
#pt1 would be the best place to ask
May already have information on it for you
The team are amazing too, same with the new team, I'd already met members of the new team from within the office when I went to the interview
that was just a quick intro on my end ig
My grandmother told me if i wanted to use the computer at her house i had to figureout how to get online she handed me a dell with gentoo and said good luck
Ahhh all good 🩶
based
Literally got the my mum says it's okay if your mum says it's okay for visiting past colleagues at the old office 😂
god i can only image what working with other infosec/devops/hardware/etc professionals must be like at work lol
I'm just on my own lol
facts made me never want to do it again lmao but i learned and now we here
lmao good luck
It's so funny
Makes life a lot less stressful
ditto, remote here as well
Our team's in the same room as another and they have the lights at regular levels and then our half of the room we're all vampires hiding in the dark
she was head of the team that made the programs for the ac130 when I found that out i was like wtf
well remote yess, just such small scale where I am security lolol
If you mess with the lights you hear a hiss as everyone looks at the light switch
holy fucking based
That's epic
ikr that $200 a month cox internet in 2009 was based
I do remote content engineering so its mostly just building labs/boxes/rooms for offsec/thm/htb
Programmers through and through
how to collect all logs linux?
My dad got me into cyber cause I used to try and figure out how he would do forensics on my laptop to find what I was doing
😂
/var/logs
cd /var/logs; ls -lra;
Anyway am off train now, have a lovely day all
uh that's very broad but here's a nice overview app: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Logwatch
yea my dad once got into my gmail to track down my phone's location got into cyber since
you can program it to collect specific logs, email you and more
aol got me into web apps bc of commview
honestly i think i somewhat got into cybersec stuff because of watch dog 1
And me dragging you into Huntress
true
I regret nothing
i remember being like who in the aol blast chat is going on and off they must be where it's storming lol
facts
I would do the knuckles grin but everyone has to start somewhere, fair enough. Anything is better than Mr. Robot yet again lol
HAHHAHAHAH T-T
If it wasn't for my dad I'd 100% still be a nurse 😂
putting what is essentially a 5th grader into an amature boxing match lol
searchsploit electron oh wait im out of scope nvm
sploitus
heh
That's a niche tool
when i figured out how to use it i was like where tf this been for the last 10 years i been doing it
lol ironically I sidetracked from IT and graphic design to education and home health care for almost a decade, ended up being great at it, almost decided to become a RN
nice nice!
For a bit anyway
I'm teaching myself low lvl networking from windows and forcing myself to re learn it it's like using vista with the program not responding for network defense
and lol ironically understanding HIPAA and more for sure helped having to literal information security it for clients in IT
OWASP
ZAP my beloved
the amount of side quest people go on irl is kinda surprising to me
then again i am here
It's insane how many info disclosure vulns I've found with ZAP
ima be like google voice and set up a pbx with asterisk right quick oh wait i coulda just used 3cx 😛
It be like that
I hear that ai can spam call u that way now
i used the autogpt crap and self operating computer repo from github and bam it locked me out of my box i was like well that happened
F
I thought it was pretty funny the way it did it
I was trying to get it to learn how to harden a system manually
but didn't tell it to add my keys after it did fail2ban
oh god you're giving me flashbacks, hush
xD
sup, im doing the free roadmap on the website, its good, i mean like a good introduction?
💯
I just use librewolf personally
https://tryhackme.com/room/internal this one took me a min to finish
Nice
I only got 13 rooms done and 2 badges xD
I can't be asked and I just use Firefox. Clould be much worse lol. But yeah there's reasonable config changes you can make
I just hate that I need Chrome(ium) on standby for work
open web standards are disintergrating
and just webkit/blink standards now
Got multiple work critical web apps/admin panels only accessable on webkit/blink. I think it's just User Agent though, I could spoof it but meh
general.useragent.override.<domain> = <spoofed-UA-string>
I mean I literally just said...
oh didn't read all of it xD
lol fair enough
