Yes, as you progress and CTFs get harder you can forget a bit of the easy things but the foundation will always be there. I suggest you take a lot of notes and practice those where you feel you struggle the most. Try doing more of the easy ones, on vulnhub THM HTb

Start by learning how the language is structured.

It helps if you know what the code is.

You can write it in a programming language you understand, then analyse it in Assembly.

It's similar to taking a phrase in English and translating it into, let's say, German. Then going through the translation one-by-one and individually translating each word.

Similar to languages; you have to expose yourself to it often, practice it whenever you can:)

It also helps to understand the fundamentals of how a CPU works, what the stack is, 32-bit vs 64-bit (and other architectures), little endian, etc.

Both, though I'd suggest wired for the speed

you can use wireless, but ethernet is always better if possible, especially if you're considering running a lot of services, especially factoring in latency etc

My issue is, I am just renting a room and I dont really have access to the house ISP, do I need to get my own modem/router?

You would still need to run the router (say you get) as AP/access mode, to not conflict with the existing router DHCP

If you can't login to the ISP admin that's okay - as long as you're not expecting to port forward (which requires admin access to the main upstream router)

If you're expecting to port forward services, I.e. running a websever you can reach from the internet, then you'll have a lot more difficulty

but if it's truly a homelab / LAN services, then you should be okay 🙂

Cool yeah, access to the net/internet will be no problem - it'll be more the net accessing whatever service you run on your homelab

whereas if you're like me

I have stuff run in the cloud, my website, various other apps

I have a homelab that doesn't touch the internet - only runs stuff here if you were directly on the wifi/network at my house

so you can have a homelab without it being on the internet:) and more "external" stuff in the cloud if you really want
