I've definitely learned a lot about that. Even at my current position, I'm not technically IT, but we don't even have an IT department at my workplace, so I've been taking care of a lot of the issues the employees have when I have the spare time

That's a good idea. Not sure if it'll happen or not, but it would be helpful to put on my resume as that would be another 2 years of IT support experience on top of what I already have from my previous job.

The amount I can help definitely varies depending on how many issues arise, but I usually spend at least a few hours a week helping others in my department with their computers.

that's only sort of true - it's very possible (and actually a best practice!) to install things in locations that aren't in the global PATH, and instead restricted to specific users and groups.

~/bin is a very common way to limit access of a binary or script to a specific user - and that's not getting into the peculiarities of segregating a script to a specific service account or group

The eJPT course used to be free. If you look at the syllabus of it, you could base your learning on that. Maybe also consider pivoting/port forwarding aswell

Linux noob here. I’m seeing a lot of conflicting answers to whether or not running apt upgrade is a good idea or not. When and how should upgrade be used? I am assuming just running a blanket “sudo apt upgrade” is a bad idea
