It was assumed that the game studio would collect government issued IDs and social media platform data and yadda yadda... truth is that unless you live in China where sharing your government issued ID is required by law (or something like that) they don't ask for anything remotely related to it, and the social media data? well... you can choose to link your accounts for small tokens of appreciation - just like in any other modern game these days

but the reviews on Steam made it sound like this was a requirement to even launch the game

There were some other comments about strange processes running during startup and "phone-home" pings even after uninstalling the game, but I can't find any of that sort on my own PC

...and then they had some launch issues

so a lot of negative reviews about things that are not actual problems and about bugs that were resolved on day one.

The game asks for admin elevation when launching though which is quite curious - but not necessarily alarming.

(they utilize their own updater too, which could be why - to ensure that they can actually update the game files if a person decides to install the game in a location that the game would normally not have access to, or whatever)
