Yeah, I've suggested the idea of asking for admin RDP creds for windows boxes to be submitted during the uploda form -- might given the other software guys about that too

The fixes / licensing is something that we're very protective over -- hence why I've gotta do it and the length it takes per box 😅 and that's even with knowing the credentials. Most win boxes so far I've had to hack-into, cleanup, license etc, make sure it's vulnerable and then do the whole process lmao

Gotta break into it, impersonate Admin, setup RDP -> do the fixes -> clean up after myself getting in and the licensing fixes -> make a copy -> try to get back in again to make sure I haven't broken it -> double check I've left nothing behind -> Deploy to THM

Unless the box was created originally on AWS and then added to THM and not uploaded to THM -> converted like normal -- I can just spin it up and generate creds but

then I finally rebuilt it, something needed to be changed (the licensing I think...), which I had to pwn the box because I couldn't remember the admin password

If it's Linux then the chances are you're using an invalid kernel version. If it's Windows then it's probably installed on UEFI rather than BIOS.

hey guys I seem to be running into a bug with Linux PrivEsc

task 7 requires me to compile a library and inject that into apache2 using the technique provided

however, I get an error:
sudo LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/tmp apache2
apache2: /tmp/libcrypt.so.1: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libaprutil-1.so.0)

the compilation command is gcc -o /tmp/libcrypt.so.1 -shared -fPIC /home/user/tools/sudo/library_path.c

this c file is provided on the machine itself and the task text literally says it should work out of the box

Run apache2 using sudo, while settings the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable to /tmp (where we output the compiled shared object):

sudo LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/tmp apache2

A root shell should spawn. Exit out of the shell.

Just a little bug in the rooms: When, say, a deployed machine is only 10 minutes left, and I add 1 hour to it, the page's notifications still appear as if I didn't add that extra hour

And, when the original 2 hour window passes, it notifies me that "the machine has expired" and it appears as closed, and I have to refresh the page to see the machine up again with the extra hour in the timer 👍

The timer on your page in your browser can get out-of-sync for various reasons, for example, when you switch to another tab in your browser, or any other action that will stop the count-down timer from being in-focus and active on the room page.

The top rank indicator of 28 is correct, the lower one is a sorted rank position which is arbitrarily sorted (based on equal points), as you share the same amount of points with positions 28 to 31 (72 points), which is just a sorting mechanism on equal points. The list is incapable of displaying 28 five times, that's why it shows you at position 32.

If you click on profile then public profile and scroll down, there is a more accurate "activity" screen. It wont help your streak, but it is clearer (IMO) to read.

Related to what I posted yesterday: I again just earned the 30 day badge (two days in a row! woot!). On the dashboard, my streak in the upper left corner is at 30. My streak in the "question graph" below is at 31.

Also, I've clicked the "update timezone" link several times in the last few days, plus once or twice at least in the last month.

not all of them, no. My guess is that the 100% is calculated from the number of rooms you are able to access, and not the total number of rooms to achieve the cert

Yeah unfortunately -- but maintaining the AttackBox has become a very tricky process that involves a lot of testing because of how sensitive some of the dependencies are for rooms/networks etc. Ubuntu 20.04 eventually

Not for general content devs anytime soon. Still waiting on AWS' conversion requirements, and even then, our guacamole servers require ubuntu 20.04 to be configured a little bit when we deploy ubuntu 20.04 through AWS directly for it to work

I am honestly opposed to that - Many bugs that are reported here aren't bugs and opening yourself up to all those DMs and pings would drown a lot of the content creators. THM had a Known Issues thing for a while where you could report bugs with the room. That was almost entirely filled up with user error.

Here's an odd one that I've seen 2 or 3 times now. When unsuspending a sleep session/logging back in to the machine, I get the popup that the machine has timed out and been shut down, but I manually terminated the machine hours ago. It's like the terminate action isn't always killing that warning popup timer or something. Might be related to rooms that have multiple machines in them.
