Oh no those are his horns, they’re just cut so that’s why they have the dark spots. That’s just the inside of the horn.

it's kind of a chain of V and / | \ shapes, very fast and sketchy. I usually do the outline of the shape that is being feathered (if that makes sense) and then 'fluff' edges that curve

it also helps to look at lots of photos of birds! there's lots of interesting wing shapes and feather types

I might have dropped the idea of my previous drawings which were MOSTLY realistically useful designs. This might have something to do with me going through "Slaves to Darkness" again last night before bed.

Beaten into a sword-like shape in the soul forges of the Inevitable City, Anarxya was once a demon who rebelled against its kin. Now a sentient sword +1, all those of infernal or celestial origin must save vs spells when struck by the blade or suffer a -2 penalty on saving throws for the next hour (this effect can be applied multiple times to the same target).

Simply named “the Soldier” but generally referred to as the Smouldering Blade of Khtæn this Yán Koryáni sword trails steam-like white wisps behind it wherever it goes. It is a sword +2, +4 vs creatures that regenerate (and prevents regeneration by any creature that cannot regenerate wounds caused by fire or acid).

(The design of this blade is based on a drawing by David Sutherland of Yán Koryáni troops from the 1977 “Legions of the Petal Throne”.)

Reforged from a broken silver sword, Threadcutter manifests much of the same abilities as its sire - it is a sword +2 that retains all its abilities on any plane of existence. It can detect magic and detect invisible each twice per day, and when wielded on the astral it will sever a target's silver cord (if applicable) on any attack roll that is a natural 18+.

I'm always curious with your maps - how much consideration goes into how the spaces would actually be used? Especially 'civilized' structures like this - do you think in advance about what rooms there should be and how they'd be used?

Obviously that depends on the map. But generally speaking yes, I think of a reason for most rooms. That said, a lot of structures change hands a lot over their lives, and spaces get repurposed and sometimes a new homeowner just has NO IDEA what to do with the room where the last guy was keeping his tomatoes and the original builder had set aside as a private meditation chamber.

Interesting - thank you for your perspective! Whenever I've tried mapmaking I get too into my head about what space is used for. Guess I've been living too long in tiny apartments where every square inch of space has to be used carefully 😂

In the 5 years I've lived here, two of the rooms have had their purposes changed twice, and the basement space has transitioned from shared office space to a full apartment, to storage.

The Six Greater Spires takes the Six Spires structure from our June release and changes up the scale so instead of a megalithic shrine we have a massive temple / dungeon complex with chambers within each of the six spires.

I think torso length is great, the legs are reasonable considering they're fantasy anatomy. My only critique would be the origin point of the tail but that'd be obscured if the piece were developed anyway. I think your sketches really show an understanding of how digitigrade legs function!

It is an awkward weapon, and if not enchanted would be a far worse choice than wielding a sword in one hand and a pistol in the other.

This mistempered and ill-balanced blade would normally be at -1 to hit were it not for its enchantments. This sword +2 (effectively +1 to hit and +2 to damage) gains an additional +2 against halflings of all kinds. Anyone struck with a natural 19 or better on the attack roll is cursed so that all food or drink tastes of ash and will never satisfy them (a standard remove curse will end this affliction).

I forgot who said something about not knowing what to use for his/her campaign in a desert. I made this guy fusing a venomous snake with fangs on his underjaw a crocodile like body, the yellowish blob on the neck is what stores the venom or acid to which spits out throughout the top part like hole inside his mouth. And lastly the tail, kind of like a gecko grabby hand but sharp and plated like a centipede. I call it a Viper Dragon or a Desert Viper Lizard. I like both names. (not great at naming stuff.)

Inktober started in some artist communities as a challenge where they would draw a painting in ink for every day in october, every day having a specific prompt to go by.
It now has grown very big and also isn't just ink anymore which is why many people also call it Drawtober/Artober and similar
and while there is still one group that gives the "main" prompts (as far as I am aware) now many different groups also create their own prompts/challenges

e.g.: the prompt for oct 1st was Crystals or sth like that.
2nd of Oct was "Suit"

[Yes, I drew a stabbing sword on purpose for the first Choptober blade. Suck it.]

Bloodier is a short sword permanently covered with thick, heavy blood much like a heavy red enamel coating. This is claimed by various people to be the blood of a god, a great hero, a slain king, the lord of thieves, or the eldest of dragons. It is a Short Sword +2 that can use an illusion to disguise the bearer once per day for up to an hour – but the blade must be held and unsheathed and cannot disguise itself.

I actually have an ultrasonic fogger set up to make mist, but it doesn't show up great in the pictures. The advantage of that over dry ice is that it's cheaper and safety

Concept art of my current D&D party that I did to have a visual idea of everyone's character. Soon to add a darn Yeti as our resident barbarian. Currently we have (from left-to-right): A wizard dwarf, a human cleric, a nymph fighter and a human wizard.

We're currently playing through the winter season and it feels like hard mode due to the weather and creatures trying to kill us while we travel between kingdoms. Our main objective as of now is to find a white dragon and suplex it to death because it took the life of an NPC related to one of our players. Vengeance is a good motivator.

Keskirr is a single-edged sword suitable for chopping through jungle and goblinoids alike. It is a sword +1, +3 vs goblinoids. Goblinoids struck with a natural 19-20 must save vs death or be horribly dismembered and slain.

This one is for Mordecai.

Bloodwing is a truly terrifying weapon – a vorpal sword in scimitar form. It is a sword +3 (to hit and damage) and decapitates opponents on high enough attack rolls (as per the standard vorpal sword rules). It is intelligent, lawfully aligned, and grants the bearer the ability to fly (as the spell) once per day for 1 hour.

This blade is well known and few are willing to stand against it – but those that do have the morale to fight it out will covet the blade and concentrate on bringing down the bearer to claim the sword for themselves.

Tether was crafted from the heavy quicksilver-like blood of an ancient astral dreadnaught and remains tied to the astral. While a simple sword +2 in most respects (and one of odd balance at that), the wielder can travel at double speed in the astral and is never lost – maybe they don’t know where they are, but they always know where that is in relation to where they entered the astral and any other points of reference they may have from this journey into the endless expanses.

Choptober Blade #5 - "Ruiner"

Forged in the last days of Zorisz for the warchief Kurthan the blade was named Ruiner by the Zoriszian conscripts for it kept turning up at battles that ended in horrific slaughters of both sides and went through at least a half-dozen wielders in the last three months of the war. Ruiner is a two-handed sword +3. It is a cursed weapon, unable to be given up once wielded and it drives the wielder into a rage in combat, granting an additional +2 to damage and forcing the wielder to attack a target (friend or foe) each round unless there is no one within reach at which point the frenzy ends until the blade is used to attack again.

Ten’ko’s black metal blade is offset by a the white enamel over the skull-shaped guard and pommel. Ten’ko is a magic sword but provides no bonus to hit or damage. A creature slain by this blade must make one last save vs Death (Wisdom save, DC 15 for 5e) or be unable to be returned to life by any means short of a wish or divine intervention. The wielder of Ten’ko will gain a necrophidius servant that assembles itself out of the bones of those slain by the weapon – this will occur after the wielder has slain d20 creatures with the blade.

Zahnsho the Decapitator was the sword that removed the head of the spider-demon that was consuming the city of Terreboar. The hero who wielded it died in the gouts of acidic blood that ensued, but the blade survived and was enshrined there for a time before being stolen. Despite the great deed for which it is renowned, it is a sword +1.

Named after the brightest star in the Northern skies, the Falling Eagle was crafted as a gift and part of a peace pact between two principalities of ancient Zorisz. A generation later the blade returned to those who had it crafted, in the hands of a treacherous princeling of Pantesh. The Falling Eagle is a Sword +1 that counters the casting of cure wounds spells within 60 feet.

(There's the damned axe y'all have been demanding for Choptober!)

Awesome design expect the axe part of it wouldn't do much damage due to how close it is to the handle which in this case count as brass knuckles plus the weight of the blade would make punching really weird. Fantasy is the best, functional as an axe...don't know.
