I used a drawing tablet, it's a trackpad pencil add-on to plug into the pc. It has pressure sensitivity and everything. U can find some for about 50 dollars on Amazon. Cheapest I've seen is 25 on sale

I never used to do it (retoucher by trade so flattening that workflow is dangerous and never recommended) - but it helps me pay better attention to each section of the image, and means removing things gives more tones and shape as they’re not perfectly cut

Honestly, there isn't much. It's a sporadic process of creation, I sit down and draw an illustration and in process there emerge some kind of story. Some gets more polished, others raw as it gets.

Most of them are champions of their gods, this one is a champion of Purphoros - god of smiths, fire and emotions. Maybe he is chained because he got caught by enemies and made to smith them tools of war, or maybe he chained himself because he deems himself too dangerous to be free? I don't know yet 😅

go to a color scheme randomizer but if you want to make it more distinct in general instead of just swapping the colors add or substract stuff you don’t want or think look cool (look on pinterest or smth for more inspo and mix and match them)

A problem has stemmed from the character is a copy of another existing one, vs inspired.

Changing colours on an existing design will always be harder as many use colours to enhance characters core parts, either to show personality or highlight areas of focus.

Commissioned for a reborn sharkfolk named jak and fane (2 entities in one body) awhile ago, general premise he was a wizard-necromancer that had a homebrewed feat that let him graft 2 minor or one major body part onto himself essentially giving general bonuses and later on allowed him to expand that to i.e like obtaining once per day dragons breath from a dragon. Was my first character and was excited to play so looked thru fiverr!

So for clearer dice you are going to want alcohol ink and for the more sparkly not transparent dice. Also alcohol ink and glitter is a fun combo for best of both worlds.

In a roundabout way, Aldrich from Dark Souls 3, and the choir from Bloodborne. Usually, when I need to describe him to people I say he's like a mix of Frank-n-furter and Mouth Of Sauron, though the latter comparison came only after the design was complete as I'm not huge on LOTR

How could I improve this design? It looks too monochromatic, maybe add a color to highlight it, I don't know, but there doesn't seem to be space for that, or add some clothing

By the way, she has a hat that's the same color as the dress, which has a ribbon the same blue color as the same on waist

Ok darken the hair a little bit. And add a layer of color over all of it again.
Then I would recommend inking the the outline.
These steps will help bring out the color 😊

And if your felling adventurous. You could try painting the back round a warm color such as orange or yellow. To contrast with the cool colors you have like blue and greys

Im bad at art, so I traced from a irl art project picture someone did for a king crab that had parts from the M1 Abrams tank scaled to its size. I think no it was a Tatchikoma reference from ghost in the shell. You can find it with a google search of Crab Tank

Then I used other crab species images without copyright for the final concept and draft.

Then this was sketched with a pad in photishop.

Not too hard or time intensive with all the tools.

So I put too much science in my setting…

The lore is deep on this for my setting. Originally rolled up as loot and was used by party to escape a collapsing dungeon. All I had was a crab to use as a token at the time.

Wrote the lore
Thri-kreen made. All the “Kreen” sub-species live on the desert content this adventure took place on. And they ride and revie the giant crabs as protectors from dragons.

IRL When crabs molt shells, they leave behind an intatct shell, so a giant crab would be much the same.

The ecology of the continent is that a great acid lake is right in the center of the desert, swarming with rust monsters and black dragons, causes acid rain, and little can grow there.

Crabs eat rust monsters kept as live stock by the Thrikreen, those rust monsters eat sand form the edge of the lake rich in desolved metals and even adamantine dust.

When the crab then eats the rust monsters the metal ores are concentrated into the chitin of the crabs shell and makes it stronger than most metal alloys. The crab shell parts being used in most of their equipment armor and weapons.

Tldr: the explanation I gave gave for it to have acid immunity so it could go in an acid lake.

Black dragons are the one time you want a submarine like the apparatus of kwalish.

To detectly answer the question when I run my setting its mostly spelljammer and plains hopping, so anyone willing to trade with the Kreen because they are on most worlds with deserts, or seas with pirates, because anthropod pirates are the best version of thri-kreen
