For hair start drawing the general outlines as clumps (each area where hair changes direction), then mark where the light reflects with an x or something, then make thick light lines flowing from the darkest spots tot he lightest, darken where there are shadows, erase where there is light,

Once the head is covered start making more distinct lines over top of the thick general lines, add as many strands as you wish

I have no idea what skills you have, but if the case is metal I would suggest etching if you want a clean look, if it is wood you could go the leather route, or even wood burn etching/stamping, if you make lovely murals those never cease to amaze, at the end of the day the person who will love this case the most is you

At some point I'll do a picture of him mounted fully dressed for war, with his squire also mounted and carrying his war banner, but... that's a lot.

So, magic, unless you’re not using the newest updated discord version it might be connection errors or the picture is considered “inappropriate” for whatever reason. So... Again a work in progress. But i would love some imput from y'all to maybe get out of my own headspace.
This is a npc concept - drawen dept collector, kind of a raketeer, called "the flower" with his toxic (but way to friendly) combat snail.
Right now i am defining the scetch but i somehow think he looks a little plain still.

Gonna be really cool! If I could suggest something, it would be boxes to make sure the letters in ‘Empress’ is evenly spelled! Also using all caps usually has more of an impact, and also doesn’t draw as much attention away from the illustration!

Incredibly fun and well made lineart! I think it looks a little bland because of a lack of contrast. Easy fixes would be to have some thick and some thin lines (thicker outline, thinner for details) or add more details in certain areas. You’ve already done this well for the head (the lines of the beard,) but I think you could do that with the clothes. Studs all over the belt, diamond-padding (ala the Witcher) for the vest…

Said this already but heres a copy and paste: Midjourney and other current AI generative tools are very unethical. They are created by scraping people's data. Not just art but people's biometrics, medical records, and other personal content without consent or compensation. It doesn't simply create, the images don't come from nowhere. The generators are made using millions of people's hard work. Heck, your own pictures were probably used for training.

Also, all the datasets are created with sweatshop labor in countries like Kenya.

My fiancé wanted a custom and handmade notebook for his new character’s spell book, so we sat down and hand made one together! (Credit to @compact dagger for the measuring and cutting of the paper, cover, fabric etc, I definitely couldn’t have done this without him) I hand sewed and hand glued everything! And used my Cricut joy to create a stencil to paint the symbol on the front!

Also all of the materials we used were already in the house, a lot of it was scraps that would have gotten thrown away if we hadn’t used them here!

Yeah, Howl's a pretty distinctive character.

The problem is that I think Howl’s silhouette is really defined by his coat, and my character’s main subclass feature is also a coat.

for example, a ponytail or half up do would already change the silhouette quite a bit

a non-white shirt might also help, since that would pull away from Howl's palette

Does the coat have to be that style? Because it matches in length, and large cuffs, and similar-sized collars (even though Howl's is normally turned up sliiightly more). It's also similarly trimmed in gold like Howl's.

You did a really good job tracking the linework! That's often a pretty challenging part, especially depending on what software you're using.

It was really tricky! It’s just procreate, but it does have some ok helpful tools after all! I usually do motion graphics, so this is way out of my league 😅

I, personally, love his current design. It’s an amazing design that I feel really appeals to his character. Besides, even if you do give him a new look, there’s a real chance that he’ll end up looking similar to someone else. It’s a very common issue where you design an original character but they end up looking eerily similar to another known character. It’s happened to me a fair share and I get comparisons to characters I have never even heard of. So long as you enjoy the design and you believe it suits the character well, there’s really no need for a redesign. If anything, think of it as a happy coincidence if you’re a fan of the character yours resembles without you intending it. But, if it really does bother you, you are free to change his design. If I had to narrow down the Howl vibes this character gives off, I’d say it’s his big jacket draped on his shoulders and shoulder-length white hair.

Agreed! I started doing more involved shadows, but realized quickly how bothersome it is being unable to ‘stagger’(?) objects because frames are groups 🥲

Exactly that! I’m like 50% wanting to find a program that allows for prettier frame-by-frame animation and 50% realizing that that’s just going to make it stop being ‘for fun on the spare time’ and start being ‘work’ 😩

Well i never have seen howl. But i also think, that its fine if you are fine with it. The whole cloak with sleeves over the shoulder is an architype witch has been used more than a few times. Especialy in Anime. And i think it's realy cool one. So if you feel unconfortable about the similareties a redesign is good. And i think redesigning also opens alot of creativety because you already have something distinct in mind.
But trying to come up with something completly new and avoid al architypes is near impossible.
So... Tltr: don't be to hard on yourself and use good established stuff as long as its your own interpretation.

It's not just a "coat on the shoulders archetype" design, though. If the artist wants advice for how to make something not look like something else, just saying "it's fine actually" isn't going to help much. And it also doesn't help people who want to learn character design become better at character design.

@ripe granite Oh. I didn't thougt my message reads like this. I think redesigning is fine and can be cool.
I just wanted to say this especialy for people reading this who are learning Charakter design. Because trying to not "copy" something can be a big hinderence in developing a stile and beeing proud on ones own work.
Tryed to be encouraging to use stuff you think is cool and make it your own.

But yeah couldn't say much specific about a change because i don't know howl and don't know much about @wraith talon 's character.

I personally say don't worry about some people thinking he looks like Howl. You will find that many characters may slightly or strongly resemble another character, and at the end of the day, what matters is that you like your art yourself. 🙂

But if you do want him to look less like Howl, it is the hair length (and to some slight degree, the hair style but not really) and the fact that we wears his coat on his shoulders only.

The face itself doesn't look much like Howl to me. But a change in even the hair alone should lessen any immediate resemblance in the opinion of others.

Its just that a Tarrasque is a god, well at least a god of destruction. Also a Tarrasque is the most powerful monster in DnD so it is a bit overpowered. No hate and amazing art but its just so you know.

My character for an upcoming campaign; a halfling artificer artillerist. Starting at level 3 he’s got a mighty boom stick “Smokey Sam” and his staff doubles as an arcane focus and its hook is for reaching hard to reach places or vaulting over gaps. Love the artificer infusions too, turning my regular backpack into a bag of holding.

This is the sketch I am working on of my favourite npc I didn't make myself.

This is grey jacket from ruins of senpitrial. Hes the god of change and one half of the god reaper duo who originally killed another god who stopped the cosmos to be with his love. (That god nearly destroyed the world in the process).

As far as I have worked out he is a changling similar to my own unnamed character. He normally shows up to help me out when mist is around. He also cannot seem to see his followers currently due to events on the material plane. (His followers are changlings and hags who are called 'kin') Also my character happens to be his champion. But for what reason I do not know as he is keeping that hidden. Kat (another player) is crowfesters champion (god reaper duos other half).

Ah this reminds me of the time I gave my players some fun items for april fools.

Plate armor. (Like actual plates)

The thing about this item though is that it was created by us players as a joke years ago

We wanted a baguette for a spiritual weapon and the joke just escalated to what it is nowadays

To the point it is now a cannon artifact level magic item

My group has a joke about door hinges and the pelvis ghost (aka dont steal skeletons pelvises)

The pelvis incident happened twice and the old chaos crew members were going nuts telling him to put the bone down. That 2nd guy who stole the pelvis ended up dying and being the first to die.
