So I have a question that has probably popped up a lot.

Is it okay to use art that the original artist made for your character, or should you use that artwork as inspiration to get a dedicated piece of art done for your character?

If you wanna go the safe route and you plan to use this character monetarily like say in a twitch stream then yeah commisioned original art is better

But if you're just playing casually and not monetizing your sessions via streaming or whatever then nobody's gonna sue ya if you 'borrow' another artist's' art haha

I am currently on the market seeking to make a commission for a very specific battlemap. I am offering $15-$20 for someone able to create a battlemap accurately representing the mine area in the Guild Wars 2 Isle of Reflection Guild Hall. I am able to grant access to this area in-game for free, game itself is free for those interested and without the game.

I do intend to use this map for active Roleplay alongside in-game play meaning it does need to be quite accurate to the base material. Price is negotiable, please DM me if interested.

from what I’ve generally heard ~$15+ is generally a fair base price per around an hour of work? A lot of internet based artists and part time artists undercharge but generally on larger projects especially you should be paying at least minimum wage for the work

It’s a pretty small project overall. Made about half the map myself in about an hour, struggled with some stairs, gave up and moved on because I am busy x.x

And impatient lol but I can make the whole thing, just means it’ll have to wait a few days so I have time to sit down again

sketching is always the fastest part, the hard one is when you get in to details and coloring, which tends to take double or triple the time as the first steps. You will always get people to do the job for a low price, most likely desperate people. But no one that values their time and skill should work for less than 30 an hour. Sadly people still doesnt value all the work and time behind an art piece.

For map creation I am not looking for that much work placed into it. I am simply using Inkarnate. I need some dimensionally accurate, with enough detail to be obvious what is what, which Inkarnate does just fine. Hand drawn quality is great, not exactly needed for a battlemap though, at least not one for this Westmarches.

DnD map table topper.
Been building this over the past week. Has metal on a wood platform, which makes the table magnetic for minis with magnets on the bottom. On top of that we can put printed vinyl maps. On top of that the cover is polycarbonate which stuff can be put on top and makes it dry erase.
Makes custom maps easy to draw on paper then use the dry erase portion on top.

And DIY DM screen I made out of a box. The white glossy cardboard made for a more professional look over regular cardboard boxes. The black you see is a washable chalk board (its like a tape sort of surface but its made specifically for this kinda thing). I wrote my cheat sheets on there with the washable chalk marker. You can see the dice tray better in this photo as well.

had been messing around with trying to make procedural dungeons in blender, and walls were really bugging me.
i had then remembered a guy who proposed a radical idea of 1.25 square grids, which made room for walls of a .25 thickness. but they admitted a flaw of such a grid is that x1 square corridors would be less than 1 inch. so i decided to experiment further with expanding that to 1.5in = 5 ft grid

After a good paint job I wouldn't want to put a grid on it tbh. If you really wanted to mark grid lines on it I would probably just use a setsquare and pen because its not worth going to the trouble with a laser pointer and tripod. Looks great btw

Here is the soon to be founded village of Halivaara. My daughter has hinted at wanting to get into D&D. For Christmas she has a DM Guide and Players Handbook coming to her; and I’m working on a Homebrew to play with her. Halivaara is going to be a coastal village the outlying islands will be part of a quest in the future. Working on ideas and building a map now. If she gets into it I’ll be expanding from Halivaara to add to more the world scape.

The shading is off to a good start, few tips if you want them,

Try not shading with black, I tend to like to use a dark slightly de saturated shade of orange, blue, purple or green for my shadows depending on the vibe I'm going for,

Also think about where your light is coming from and how that would make your shadows cast on the shape, bodies especially muscular ones are complex shapes,

And don't be afraid to add some dark harsh shadows anf also lighten areas with a complimentary or contrasting colour and some spot highlights in white or a bright neon colour to give the shading some levels,

(Neon rim lighting is kinda just a nice stylistic choice I do)

Just a sweet middle aged lady with a book on her back and a compass around her neck.

The character is Llij Anecnhoj. She’s a halfling Way of Shadows Monk in a DnD 5e campaign where the setting is based on a game called Runescape (essentially, set in the world of Gilenor if you’re familiar with the game).

She’s 63 years old, but with halflings that’s closer to middle aged in appearance, with extremely long silver hair that nearly touches the ground when worn down, travel-tanned skin (though she was incredibly pale before her travels) and vibrant violet eyes. She appears innocent and trustworthy and wears her hair in a braid that goes most of the way down her back most of the time when she’s traveling.

She’s about 2’7” which is small even for a halfling, and her equipment appears slightly too big in some ways. For example she carries a tome that in normal hands would be a pretty large book, but she is able to wear it as if it were a shield on her back. Her clothes are monks robes in the colors of her god Armadyl (white, silver, gold, and pale blue) and she wears a steel compass around her neck that doesn’t appear to be physically broken, but doesn’t actually point north.

@bitter nacelle i would really like to help you but in my case i also wanted to know how to draw characters but it just wasnt in my hand, then i started drawing what my hand wanted to and now i have my style. If you already have your style i would recomend you to develop it and try drawing anything in that style. Whatever happens you should always draw As it makes you better

Homebrew creature I made: Vocla

It's a small size omnivore about 2ft. and 6in. tall which primarily eats bugs and greenery.

They can be found usually in a body of water within a cave or forest and are very proficient swimmers. They're known for singing a beautiful song from 3 different organs located in the neck and head. The song itself is described as a symphony of voices and ethereal sounds. Their song is also a defense mechanism used to lull their predators into a docile state as to make for a speedy getaway. However, some elves as well as other races have domesticated Vocla to sing in designated areas as to provide guests a relaxing sensation after their weary travels. If their song does not affect the creature they are trying to escape from they can also use their bioluminescence to create a flash to stun their adversary. If all else fails, they resort to making an ear-piercing screech which can only last a few seconds and renders their vocal organs strained if used too often.

They can also understand common but they cannot speak it
