I'm excited encounters is coming to Beta and have a question about monsters. I have physical versions of Volo and Mordenkainen’s. If I add those monsters to an encounter and then run it what happens? I know I can add any monster, but will the run encounter piece do the initiative and show health if I don't own the monster on dndbeyond?

In order to add a monster to an encounter you need access on D&D Beyond - whether that be you own the monster/book on DDB, its being shared to you, or you created a homebrew copy (for personal use)

Getting an issue in the homebrew tool, specifically snippet code. I have a racial trait that uses the PC's constitution for the saving throw calculation, so I put {{savedc:con}} into the snippet. However, on the character sheet, it returns with savedc:CON - Invalid symbol: C

It looks more like you've made multiple edits, and caching is messing with you. Put in {{savedc:con}}, save, and then wait a good 15 mins.

Shucks. Incognito is usually the quickest way to test without any browser extensions.

But you might try manually disabling all your extensions. If that does the trick, you can re-enable them one by one to find the culprit.

Based on the screenshot you sent through, it looks like you are in the app, then went to create a new character - this then loads an in-app browser as this functionality isn't available in the app as of yet. From there you've then navigated to other parts of the website.

As you are navigating through an in-app browser, there are some sections of the website that won't function correctly. If you are wanting to make purchases from us directly (or wanting to purchase bundles/individual listings - like spells, subclasses, feats, etc.) please use the website and not the app.

When using the website through a standard browser (either on a mobile device or laptop/desktop) you won't encounter the error you are seeing (usually occurring when selecting to purchase for self vs as a gift).

Any browser - the app is still being developed, the only reason you can even reach an in-app browser and get to the website is because we are still building out the character create and edit functions. Once you edit the character (or create it), you go back to the app - instead you've remained in the website which is why you are seeing issues. Very few websites work well via an in-app browser.

so you aren't actually trying to make an "app" purchase, you are actually using the website. Website go to a browser - bunny hopping from the app will cause issues. 🙂

One thing I can suggest is clearing your cache; sometimes the cached versions of images can become corrupted and fail to load. Clearing your cache forces the browser to re-download them

Is there a way to 'filter' the content seen on DnDBeyond (as a DM, specifically) so that when I am creating content for a campaign I only see the content I have already purchased (and/or linked to the campaign....)
Actually that's a good idea - the ability to enable or associate sources with a campaign would be good - different campaigns, different rulesets.

Looks like a kobold or two have been tinkering at something - it has been raised, however I won't have any ETA on when it might be resolved. In the mean time I'd suggest opening the monster stat blocks in new tabs so you can refer to them without the code showing.

@prime quiver - Mod support is to ping ALL the mods and get help for things like the discord on fire (or Sorce has lost his phone... you know super important things 😉 )

TCoE doesn't add these to spell lists - they include an Optional Class Feature (OCF) that you need to "opt in" on the character sheet, so the spell is added to the list for THAT character. So you wont see the wizard tag added to the spell because it hasnt been added to the wizard class list.

There’s a known issue with deleting unnamed encounters. Giving it a name before you delete it will usually do the trick.

Give it a modifier with Type: Bonus, Subtype: Saving Throws, and put a number in Fixed Value for the amount of the bonus.

If you don’t want it to require attunement, don’t click Requires Attunement.

A player in my campaign lost his account and can't access it nor his character in my campaign, he made a new account and I want to reassign his character from his old account to the new, how would I go about doing that?

Only the owner of the character (his old account) can unassign it, which would be required before anyone else can claim it.

Rather than him create a new account, the best option would be for him to raise a support request and we can help him regain access to the original account - creating multiple accounts just causes confusion and clogs up the account system.

I'm trying to make a hybrid subclass from Soulknife and Arcane Trickster in DnDBeyond, but for some reason it's not registering INT as a spellcasting ability modifier. In the editor I have it set up as INT, but in the character sheet (on a character with 18 INT) it says modifier +0 in the spells window. Any idea what could be the issue there?

What I did was create a copy of the Soulknife subclass, changed the options as per the first screenshot provided, then copied the "Spellcasting" feature from Arcane Trickster.

Does the encounter have a name? There is a known issue with unnamed encounters not being able to be deleted. Try giving it a name and then see if you can delete it.

If that doesn't work, contact DnDBeyond customer support here: https://support.dndbeyond.com/hc/en-us and give them the URL to the encounter. They may have to remove it from the backend in certain rare cases.

So the DDB Replicate Magic Item has a lot more options in the character builder than what I see when I look at just the options in the Artificer class page. Where are those coming from?

From the Artificer page itself: A table’s title tells you the level you must be in the class to choose an item from the table. Alternatively, you can choose the magic item from among the common magic items in the game, not including potions or scrolls.

Hello! I am trying to build a Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer/Bard and despite purchasing the Player's Handbook for some reason I cannot put Fireball on my builder while being a Red/Gold Dragon. I checked and I am at a high enough level to learn the spell. Is there something I am overlooking? I would appreciate any assistance in this

The spells you can learn depends on the individual class level, not total character level.

Unless you are a 5th level Sorcerer (bard level doesn't matter), you cannot pick 3rd level spells to learn

Im getting conflicting information on the sheet and it didnt change until after I put in my Sorcerous Origin and Dragon Ancestor. Im trying it in two different pages. On one page its allowing me to add it as a level 5 Sorcerer and the other page its not and earlier it was allowing me at a level 4.

you have a 3rd (and 4th) level spell slot due to multiclass rules, but that doesn't mean you can learn 3rd level spells.

When you cancel your subscription remains until it ends - so if you cancel current sub but it does end for another week nothing happens until the sub ends

you wont want to start a new sub until the original one runs out because the subs will overlap, so if you start a new one right away you will have overalapping subs, - theres no automatic credit back for the unused time if you start a new one

Sorry for the late reply, but here's something you can do. Make sure your race is one word. Make the first word of your subrace that same word. In the ddb character builder, the first word of the subrace is displayed in grey above the subrace name. ddb just doesn't add new races as groups that can condense all the sub/variant races under itself.

If your race does have a space in it, you have to use some other blank space to replicate the effect because ddb uses the first word of the subrace for this race name. I can't remember which blank space I used in this one, but it is possible.

@somber reef Yeah, just give your subclass name a prefix. I use an abbreviation of a source • subclass name. Like TDCS • Way of the Cobalt Soul is that subclass from the original TalDorei settings. This method mirrors ddb's own prefixing. Red arrows point at ddb subclasses. Blue arrows point at homebrew I've made.

Not really at least not in the sense I think you’re asking. DDB provides a way to purchase the D&D books digitally and provides tools to help people play D&D. The character sheet creator can help you create a character and help you manage it but it doesn’t do everything automatically.

It automated a lot but it’s still good to read and understand the rules for character creation.

When you are first starting out, you are definitely going to want to get input from your DM or other players to help you along in character creation.

Ah, I was just checking since as I added numbers there were less and less values available to me in other categories. I did a bit of research on the averages. I increased a few stats above the average (one of them associated with my chosen class) but in return made other stats as low as I could. I'll talk to the DM and my friend, they're the only ones that have experience in our group

Generally unless you are intending to handicap your character, you don't want to start with any stats lower than 8 or 9.

But also your stats will increase with time, so your best stats should not be higher than 16 or 17 at level 1.

When building out homebrew does it just take a long time for granted spells to be added to a character sheet or am I implementing that feature incorrectly?

Hello, my friends and I are trying to start a campaign and are using Avrae. The campaign is linked to the discord server however we are unable to roll using the dice in DND beyond. We can manually type in the server "!check arcana" but if we click our dnd beyond sheet the rolls don't sync into the server. Can anyone advise?

Is there a way to deactivate a book from a campaign? I DM a campaign where a player is sharing content from the books they have and they recently got strixhaven. So it is sharing spells and owlin and the student background from that in my game I have been running for about two years now. I don't want my players trying to retire their characters to get the student background or owlin nor using silvery Barb spell. Is there a way to change settings to deactivate just one book?

If you're the DM in the dndbeyond campaign then on the campaign page should be a button called Content Management. You should be able to switch off specific sources.

As your game's DM you can always slap their hand and say "No".

I can't think of a homebrew way to do that, at least not dynamically. Like if the stat increases or decreases. Actions have a Limited Use attribute, but that is more like a number of uses mechanic.

I'd probably suggest a custom skill that you can adjust to an arbitrary value. Open your skills in the character sheet side panel and at the bottom is add custom skill

If you only just made this edit, it can take upwards of 15–20 minutes to populate onto a character sheet due to caching. You can try removing the item and adding it back, and if that doesn't work, toggling the inspiration button on and off before refreshing the sheet

Correct - when you cancel a current subscription the remaining time is still active - effectively you've just turned off the auto renewal feature on the sub by cancelling.

The new system will allow you to cancel/upgrade/do weird whacky things - but its still going through a soft launch roll out, so only users who are starting a brand new sub with nothing prior are being put there until we complete a migration process

Really? Since when? Warforged was available as UA before Eberron was released. I don't see why they would stop providing UA on the platform.

they announced a while back they were stopping UA support as it took dev time away from actually needed features to try and implement features that might not even make it to print

also even when it did support UA, it didn't support UA versions of anything abandoned by wotc or that made it to print

and by the time it was supported, the xanathars UAs were long over, which oath of treachery was among

update: I think it's a Beyond20 issue

Something on the wizard page is using Alertify tags, which Beyond20 also uses, so there's an interaction there that is causing infinite refreshing

One of my characters had a piece of their soul stolen resulting in a -2 to saving throws and ability checks until it is restored.

I am making a feat to add the curse and found a way to do the -2 on ability checks but cant figure out the saving throw part.

I’m guessing you’d need a modifier with Type: Bonus, Subtype: Saving Throws, Fixed Value: -2.

You’d want to set that up using Options, one for each form. Then inside you can give it the modifiers, actions, etc. for each form.

You can make it into a feat and choose it instead of an ability score increase, and on the feat you put what you want it to have as an option that you select, when it would be in Lycan Form you select that in the feat. Normal form would be without an option then.

Probably won’t work as a feat, unless you’re adding and removing the entire feat to toggle this.

Feat options only allow Actions, and not Modifiers, Spells, etc.

My players and I were playing last night but I couldn’t see their rolls in DnD beyond. Usually we use the avrae bot but it wasn’t working which is why I was trying to track it in dndbeyond. No luck on either side.

It was working a few weeks ago but started having problems recently.

When I choose one of the Strixhaven backgrounds, how do I gain access to the spells they provide? Also does the Strixhaven initiate come built in with the background itself or do we need to add it manually?

The background adds the spells to your spell list that you can choose from.

The initiate feat has to be added manually on the character sheet

They’re added onto your spell list as your character levels

It’ll be labeled with the source being the background

And when you manually add the feat, it prompts you to select the cantrips and 1st-level spell you want.

That's usually caused by then being unnamed. It can often be fixed by naming them, then you should be able to delete them

so it would take effect instantly but you would lose out on the rest of your current subscription

I have made my my own background ( Far Traveler template ) and switched perception for nature.. but even though I pick it in my description - on my char sheet it still shows perception and not nature as proficient.. what am I doing wrong?

Intiimidate isn't showing up as a selectable proficiency for fighter, or for any backgrounds?
