Why not just give the DDB VTT a spin first? I use it with my local group and an embedded TV in the table. Looking at the site you linked it doesn't look much more than that anyway.
Thanks. Still learning my way around Discord too. Didn't mean to post in the wrong area.
That's pretty much what it is. I'm COMPLETELY new to the whole VTT thing. Back in the day, I used to spend months creating my own dungeons out of model railroad supplies (walls, trees, rocks, etc.) Apparently, no one does that anymore. 🙄 I don't even know where to start with VTT.
This link has most of the post about DDBs VVT on it if you want to check it out. https://www.dndbeyond.com/tag/maps
I'd start with what's available first before jumping into the customization side of things. If you buy a module from DDB, you'll get all the maps and images available over in your VTT for that module/campaign. Learn the platform too as there's a lot of integration for player tokens and npc tokens as well.
There should also be some free things to claim. Let me see if I can find the Dyno tag for it
?tag ddb claim
The following items on D&D Beyond can be claimed at no cost.
The items with the green emoji at the end are starter adventures
My group uses a mixture of 3d and 2d for maps and encounters to bring the playing field to life a little more. The benefits of playing in the same room as well as having tons of terrain from other tabletop games
And you only use DDB VTT? No third party stuff like Roll20 or Foundry? I'm not afraid of anything IT related and getting set up (almost retired tech director for a cybersecurity company), but I just need a direction to go in. I'll do the research if I have a starting place.
Thank you. Looking into this now.
I also use only DDB VTT and its easy for me because everything is mostly all in one place
i'd be happy to show you how i leverage ddb's vtt, go ahead and send me a DM if you're interested
Done.
Just putting in a placeholder Request for the Dragonlance: Shadow of the DragonQueen one to be in this list of to dos ❤️
Hi, I have a question:
Is it possible to create a campaign from my account and assign the DM role to someone else?
No the person who creates the campaign will always have the DM role and there isnt a way to give it to someone else
But anyone with a Master Tier Sub can turn on content sharing in up to 5 different campaigns
Is there a way to stop the character sheet from applying rage damage, even when im not in-rage? It always displays +7 even when I should only get +5
Can I share the content with a campaign in which I am a player?
I have the highest subscription, but I'm tired of always being the DM, so a friend offered to manage it and I wanted to share my material with him.
Can you share a link to that character? Please make sure in your character settings that Character Privacy is set to Public, too.
Yes. Any Master Tier subscriber in the campaign (player or DM) can activate Content Sharing. Once it’s activated, everyone’s books get shared with everyone else.
Your friend will need to create the campaign to be recognized as the DM.
Anyone know how to move monsters from CritterDB to DNDBeyond, if at all possible? I imagine you can't even do it without manually copying everything...
I do believe you’d have to do it manually, yeah.
You currently have Rage enabled on your sheet, which is why it’s adding the bonus.
You’ll need to click here in Features & Traits and unselect the “Activate Rage” option to turn it off.
just did thank you didnt notice that option
Is there any way to click-to-roll attacks from your wildshape companions on the character sheets, for use on the Maps feature?
A lot of everything just went inverted out of no where
I've got no 3rd party dnd beyond extentions or anything currently installed
I don't know for sure if it will work but others have told me when they add creatures to the Extras tab of the character sheet for the PC, they can roll them there. Have you tried adding it there?
Positive
The response I got back after submitting my ticket was less than helpful.
However, I figured out I could view the tokens on mobile, somehow, so I ended up for that session having Maps open both on my PC and on my phone. The PC one for the purpose of combat and fog of war, and the phone one literally only so I could move tokens around.
It was a very janky fix and I shouldn’t have had to have done that, but we are where we are.
is the ability to add smoldering armor as an artificer plan but not cast off armor a bug or intentional
How do I implement the saving throw DC for my homebrew monk feature using the 2024 module?
They are both there for me but Smoldering comes from XGE while Cast Off comes from the PH.
Is it possible you either do not own the digital version of the Players Handbook or this character is not in a campaign where it is shared with you?
Alternatively, can you check that Core Rules (not 2014 Core Rules) is ticked on the Home Tab of this character?
I have both Xge and PH shared
and core rules too
And this character is in the campaign with the person sharing it?
Yes
Can you see this page? (It should be a section of the PH)
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/phb-2024/playing-the-game#PlayerorDM
Weird. A little stumped.
The attached pic is it showing on mine so it can appear making me feel you just have a setting off somewhere.
Smoldering does appear much further down due to being in a different section. Is it possible you haven't scrolled all the way to the top as the alphabetical sort resets with each category change?
I did scroll through the entire thing and did a search
Missing Content?
If you can’t access a book or find an available character option, here’s some important things to check:
- Are your Account Entitlements in sync? If not, you’ll see a button to let you manually trigger a sync.
- Did you purchase the book yourself, or is it shared with you through one of your campaigns?
- If you purchased it, is it listed under Current Product Licenses?
- If it’s shared with you, is this character assigned to the campaign that’s sharing it?
- Do you have the right checkboxes enabled in your character settings? The checkboxes at the top under “Sources” and “Partnered Content” control which options are available for your character. If in doubt, check them all.
- Are you using the right class? There are two versions of each core class: the 2024 one under "Core Rules" and the 2014 one under "2014 Core Rules". Options available for one might not be available for the other. For example, some options for
Cleric (the 2024 class) might not be available for
Cleric (the 2014 class) and vice versa.
I assume you are using the new Artificer class from the Eberron book or is it the old class from Tasha's?
One easy way to tell for sure is if your L2 power says Infusions or Magic Item Plans?
Do you own anny books that do that on a subclass (if yes you can coppy it and check)
You cannot homebrew a new class or modifications to an existing one.
As we do not have details of what you need implemented, you could try using a homebrew Feat, Magic Item, or Subclass, depending on what it is.
I personally like feats for things that are always on and Magic Items for things you want to toggle.
You can also create a custom action if that would work .
Thank you.
Is your browser maybe trying to force the site into dark mode? Do you get the same issue in another browser?
What happens if you try another browser on your PC?
If that works, there might be a browser setting or extension that’s interfering.
If not, it might be a network issue. Are you using a VPN or any security software? like Kaspersky?
In a snippet? Try {{savedc:wis}}
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/25930-using-snippet-codes-in-your-homebrew
Is 2014 extended rules onn and do you own Xanathar's Guide to Everything? The item smoldering armour is not an item in the 2024 rules
That is more confusing
(But both appear in the list for me.)
I would assume the legacy version from XGTE was intentionally omitted in favor of the one from the DMG.
In which case, this character would need access to the DMG to be able to add it.
I've been playing with the DDB VTT for the first time and setting up my first campaign. Why do I keep getting that a basic human token is not available in my content library when I've purchased the maximum number of subscriptions from DDB? I'm just looking to drop a few random townsfolk to interact with.
Smoldering armour is mentioned in the 2024 dmg while you need to turn 2014 extended rules onn to add it (I just noticed that whele looking true that list and trying something)
What specific statblock are you referring to when you say "basic human token"? Commoner?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/5194951-commoner
Right. And because it doesn't have a more recent version in the 2024 rules, I'd assume that's why it's still available for the 2024 Artificer.
Whereas Cast-Off Armor was updated in the 2024 DMG, so I'd assume that's why the legacy version from XGTE does not appear.
I just search for "human" and want to drop a "human guard" or "human scoundrel" token. If "commoner" is what I'm supposed to use then I'll try that now.
I am just confuset because there is an item in a 2024 book for which you neet 2014 extended rules turned onn to add it don't mind me
Those are both from Flee, Mortals. Have you purchased that book, or is it shared in that campaign?
The "commoner" worked...well enough. Can you clone the commoner monster and change the picture and stats?
Yeah, when you make a homebrew monster, you can select an existing statblock (like commoner) as a template.
And then you can change whatever you like.
There isn't any such item. 😅
To add Cast-Off Armor from the 2024 DMG, you need Core Rules enabled.
To add Smoldering Armor from XGTE, you need 2014 Expanded Rules enabled.
I'll have to look to see if I purchased "homebrew" books. I don't think I did because it was a rabbit hole I didn't want to go down getting my feet wet again.
It is not possible to add Cast-Off Armor from XGTE.
homebrew is a free toolset on DDB
There's no such thing as "'homebrew' books". You can create a monster here, without purchasing anything:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew/creations/create-monster
why is it here than? https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/dmg-2024/magic-items-a-z#SmolderingArmor
Okay, now I see where the confusion is coming from. 😅
Looks like it's one of those magic items that didn't change at all, so its "initial source" didn't change from XGTE.
But it should have...
For any item that without mechanical changes, its text and primary source should have been updated to the DMG (while still remaining available for people who owned only XGTE).
Ah, I didn't realize that was how it worked. I've had the '24 core books from the beginning, so didn't really pay the initial source any mind (since I have more or less all of them).
In this case, it looks like the parent listing ("Smoldering Armor" itself) was correctly sourced to the DMG, even though it still shows XGTE as the primary source.
But it also looks like the child listings (the specific types of Smoldering Armor) were not sourced to the DMG, which is why they disappear when Core Rules is disabled.
it is the same for the Nature’s Mantle and Shield of Expression
So yeah, Smoldering Armor is definitely a bug. I'll let the devs know.
Nature's Mantle is also showing the wrong primary source, but it does seem to be correctly multi-sourced.
It looks like the text there was correctly updated.
Shield of Expression seems like it should have been split into two listings...
Since it refers to the Utilize action, which only exists in the 2024 rules.
But yeah, I'll flag all three of those with the devs.
soo the Animated Shield, Arrow-Catching Shield, Sentinel Shield should, Shield of Missile Attraction and Spellguard Shield should also have been split into 2
maby there are more (this shows all the items that were not split) https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items?filter-type=0&filter-search=&filter-requires-attunement=&filter-effect-type=&filter-effect-subtype=&filter-has-charges=&filter-source-category=26&filter-source-category=1&filter-source=146&filter-partnered-content=t
Can you DM me your support ticket details and the response?
Would this be the place to vent about having to dismiss a million banner announcements a day on the forums suggest that while they are working on fixing the forums, that the incessant announcement banner dismissals should be a part of that?
Thanks for the reply. I did try adding them there, I added them as wild shape extras. Maybe I will try adding them as a different type of extra, because mine didn't have clickable rolls
This was definitely not the intended behavior. The team is investigating why and how this occurred now.
I assumed so. Thanks. That said, I'd also point out that I've had to dismiss specific banners multiple times a day for over a month. I'd like the cool down to be a bit longer before a banner pops up again 😉
hello. i have a dnd subclass for the new 2024 fighter and it was published back in october. someone pointed out my grammer was abit off in acouple places so i went to edit it by making an updated version and it now says "This homebrew Subclass does not have the necessary class features with the correct required levels." all i did was change a couple words. does anyone know what im supposed to due here because i messaged dnd beyond support and all i got back was a generic we dont help with homebrew tool questions response.
Anyone else having issues with MAPS VTT? Does appear I can load any map whether it be provided by WOTC or not.
I am also getting a message that says "Hardware acceleration is not enabled. Please enable it in your browser settings." and i have verified it is turned on.
There's a weird glitch that requires a level 1 subclass feat despite that not being a thing for 2024 classes.
rebooted and the message is now gone, but I can't load a custom map. It just comes up blank still.
Is there any word on the error: something went wrong happening on the dice log for the VTT?
Can you send me your username and a link to the campaign?
And browser, version, os, and version?
You can DM me if you don't want to post it here
Even for fighters that never needed a level one feature before?
Yeah, it's a weird glitch
omg it worked thank you
Hi all, I'm having a strange issue. I have the 2014 PHB purchased. I'm synced. I have the 2014 content enabled, and I'm not seeing the crossbow expert feat. Character meets all prereqs. I've turned prereqs off. Anyone have any ideas?
I can see it when I make a new character. The character I'm working on now isn't associated with a campaign.
Do you also have the legacy toggle set to on? As that Feat was reprinted in the 2024phb you may need it on
Where exactly is the legacy toggle? I tried to go through most of the toggles and see if they'd fix the issue.
Ah yes, I did have that one checked. Just went back.
Right under the core toggles
Its right under the toggle for the 2014 expanded rules
Do you own the 2014 phb or is it just being shared with you in that one campaign?
I own it. Both weren't associated with a campaign.
And your sure your character doesn't already have it?
That's what my list looks like
With none selected elsewhere
no campaign
All synced up...
Why is the homebrew creation tool loading things at a snail's pace right now?
Can you share a link to that character? Please make sure in their character settings that Character Privacy is set to Public, too.
When you go in to the Feats section of the "Features and Traits" section of the character sheet, is it listed there? If it is, it should show you it's source. If it is already on that list, it won't show in the character editor as you are experiencing now.
Hello - I have Master Tier subscription and own a copy of the PHB 2024 and Xanathars Guide to Everything. I am trying to create a Warlock with a Hexblade subclass but it wont let me add the subclass - according to Xanathars Guide to Everything this subclass is available at 1st level. When I click on all the Class Features it only states a subclass being available at 3rd level. Can someone please help?
2024 updates means you don’t get a subclass selection until level 3. To use the 2014 version you’d need to set your character to use legacy and select the 2014 warlock class.
What's the modifier type for ASI
You’ll need something like this:
- Type: Bonus
- Subtype: Choose an Ability Score
- Fixed Value: 1
No like, choose this this and this and then you give them a variable amount of stat bonuses according to what they choose
I’m not sure what you mean by that. 😅
What’s the rules text for whatever you’re trying to add?
Have you tried making a homebrew copy of an official rule that works like that to see how it was set up?
What am i supposed to put here it's annoying me 😭
This is the text that explains what your 2014 background is. So it can be whatever you want for the flavor of your character (or nothing at all).
I'm having difficulty adding a feature to a Species I'm trying to make. It grants a cantrip but I want it to have an option for using Int, Wis or Con. Is there a way for me to add that in, or must it be a Variant. Also if someone could send screen shots of a similar homebrew that did this?
Just make a copy of the 2024 Elf, which does exactly this for its High Elf option.
Hi there! Did you need help with D&D Beyond?
You’ll need to use Options to give them a choice of spellcasting ability. (Set up Int. as one Option, for example.)
Then inside you’d add the spell using the chosen ability.
I see...
You should ask about it in #character-discussion, not here. This is for support with DNDBeyond, the tool, not characters.
Oh, ok :> sorry
Attachments are disabled :(
You can post a link to your DNDBeyond character sheet there.
Ok!
Simply don't export it to PDF first.
Thx
Last night myself and other players noticed all sorts of instability with D&D B Maps, particularly the Game Log. Is anyone else also experiencing this?
Is there a way to make homebrewed classes?
Can you give me an many details as you can?
Only homebrew subclasses - it’s a limitation of DnDBeyond and the devs are aware of the community desire to create whole new classes
First, a few players notice (including me as DM), that we we clicked 'start combat' for an encounter, the page crashed. Refreshing re-loaded the page and the encounter. Thankfully the encounter bar on the left remembers where you were before crashes, so we didn't have to re-create everything. Over the course of 4 hours of play, this happened to myself about 10 times or so, usually about twice per encounter/battle.
The 2nd item causing issues was the Game Log. It was completely crashed. While Maps VTT was operating, when you clicked the cube icon to launch Game Log, the log showed an empty box with an error message (forgot the name of the error - it was brief). Therefore we could not see the full column as usuall. Custom dice rolling also was affected by this. We checked character sheets. These seem to show the Game Log ok, as well as custom dice rolling. If this happens again I will take screen shots. At the time I was trying to resolve things quickly, so was focusing on keeping the action moving, so didn't think to screenshot at the time.
Did you have any relevant extensions running? What browser and what version?
No - For myself - as a DM for D&D Beyond soley - it is a table rule to not have any extensions like Beyond20 used. I am strict on that for myself and my players.
Hey, I'm not the police. 🙂
Ok. This is the second report of something like this I've seen. I'm getting in the car to drive into work now. When I get there I'll start digging into what's going on.
Doing light testing this morning, all seems good, but only played around for 5m or so.
Is there a suggested size or limitation for Maps VTT? I'm thinking images I'm loading are too large. That maybe why i'm having issues.
For what it's worth, I also had the same issues last night during my session (Maps crashed once, reloaded; game log gave an error every time a roll happened, but closing/opening the tool fixed it each time). In addition to these, the map wasn't updating for one of my players (not a big deal since we talked through it, but they were confused about token locations during combat as the tokens weren't moving for them). Lastly, I noticed that attunement originally wasn't applying the effect for a magic item on a character (gauntlets of ogre power) at first, even after unequipping/re-equipping, unattuning/re-attuning. After a few cycles of attempting this, it eventually worked.
Do you mean on the map itself? Yes. About 10mb or so. But this is vetted before you upload. That said, I have been using it since May and never had that kind of instability before. The map loaded fine and you could pan accross easily. Seemed to occur when you setup an encounter and started battle.
Same behavior here except the Game Log. When it went down, it was down. Was inoperable for the duration of the night.
No not the file size. The Image size. dimensions like 480x700 or something ...
Possible. The application does not screen for requirements there.
I'd like to know from Dev what they suggest. This was my issue. I reduced the size by 25% and they now work. I guess Super Large dimensions are not useable.
Is there any way to use the classes and backgrounds in the character creation of the players handbook in dnd beyond if I have the physical handbook?
you can homebrew them
I Am really knew to DND so I ain’t to sure how could I do that 😅
Would anyone be able to explain me?
what one do you want me to help whit
No, you must own the digital book to use the content from it. As Bramvers said, you can use the Homebrew system to set them up yourself from the physical book. You can look in the DNDBeyond forums for some insight, but this is a good place to start: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/131411-a-homebrewers-how-to-faq?srsltid=AfmBOooTgeBjMVqUB16w20LFZyKOtWqewM2eOO-Zcy6sAxX55CMnKTSQ
🔗 Intro & Acknowledgments
Hello,
If you don’t know me, I am Sposta. I know some stuff about homebrewing on DDB. If you’ve spent time in these forums yo...
Homebrew does have a little bit of a learning curve to it. Wherever possible, it often makes the process easier to start with something you do have access to, make a copy, and modify that copy to get what you want. As someone new to Homebrew, working off a completely "blank canvas" will be considerably more frustrating.
Hmmm interesting, it is because one of my friends wanted to set its background to Charlatan but we are new and I bought the physical books but idk how to set up a charlatan pc 😅
Caveat: Don't really use Scaled value much so, grain of salt here, but ...
Maybe it doesn't like the 0 for the Fixed Value? Have you tried specifying something other than 0. (even if just to determine if that is what is causing the error?) As that is a "scale values" screen, it seems like the scale value should be specified in there and "0"s can often indicate something is not present.
try making fixed value 1
Maybe that could work. I wanna use 0 since its not supposed to add a scale value for a modifier as I'm using this for multiple abilities
Understood, but when I'm debugging, one of the things I do is figure out first what is causing an error which then allows me to try and fix the error. I'm sort of applying the same logic here. 🙂 If we can sort out what makes the error go away and what happens with that modification, we might be able to figure out how to get it to do what you really want.
doesn't seem like putting in a 1 worked, lemme wait a second and see if the website just needs to update
Yeah its not working
OK, so the problem is somewhere else. Hrm.
That needs to be a double bracket and not parebtheses.
this{{}} not ()
the number being there or not doesn't seem to make a difference
I will try that
Here is a form post that has more info on snippet codes https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/25930-using-snippet-codes-in-your-homebrew
What is a Snippet?
Have you spotted on the character sheet that it tells you what each feature of your class/race does? Those are snippets.
When creatin...
I replaced the parenthesis with double brackets but it didn't work
do I need to remove some other brackets or something?
I would first make sure you snippet code is written correctly based on the link I sent.
I would also just leave fixed value blank as the 0 may be causing issues.
You may also need to hit the big save button at the very top of your homebrew. and remember that homebrew changes can take up to 15mins to show on character sheets
loading takes awhile
Isn't that error complaining that the class essentially has no {scalevalue} in it's table? You're telling it to use something that isn't there
while this is loading, is there a way I could make it so half proficiency is added to ac? Cus you can do that with full proficiency
the might be a bonus in modifiers that can do that but im not 100% sure
So for Warlock's Agonizing Blast Invocation, 2024 PHB states:
"Choose one of your known Warlock cantrips that deals damage. You can add your Charisma modifier to that spell’s damage rolls."
But I don't see an option to choose anything other than Eldritch Blast in DDB character settings. Am I missing smth?
You gotta keep ‘em separated
{{scalevalue}}{{modifier:wis+classlevel}}
I believe thats a know limitation right now.
oh thank you!
Since I'm new to DDB and never tried homebrewing so far, would it be possible to homebrew an alternative version myself which lets me?
it works now!
I would just leave it unmarked and write in the notes section which warlock cantrip you want to be affected by you Charisma mod. Then you would just have to remember to add that mod to your damage rolls yourself.
You could also manually add the Charisma mod to your damage by customizing the spell but you would have to change the mod if your charisma went up
Out of curiosity, what worked?
^
regardless, is there a way to do this? You can write out a snippet code for it at least
Snippet codes are just for showing correct on the character sheet.
There should be a section somewhere called modifers and that is where you would look for it.
The snippet code would be something like
{{(10+modifier:dex)+((proficiency/2)@rounddown)#unsigned}}
-# If you want it to be rounded up and not down you would change the rounddown part to roundup
What kind of homebrew is this? Species? Subclass?
btw this is for a monk subclass, does that change anything?
Yeah that changes the snippet code some
It would change it to something like
{{(10+modifier:dex)+(modifier:wis)+((proficiency/2)@rounddown)#unsigned}}
FWIW, you can eliminate most of those parentheses, or all of them if you change where the rounding happens.
{{10+modifier:dex+modifier:wis+proficiency#rounddown,unsigned}}
I did not know this
is it possible to code in an exact value like this for the AC?
or should I just make it so people have to manuially add in the ac bonus?
I think I will just make it a manual thing, I mean I already calculate what the bonus is for them so it should be easy
Hello.
The Crooked Moon animated frames throw a 403 forbidden when selected in the Character Sheet.
They used to work and now don't anymore.
No matter on Desktop or iPhone, they won't load.
and @slim lichen can you send me your DDB usernames and the game ID you were using last night? (open the campaign in Maps and send me the numbers at the end of the URL)
We're aware, something is slowing things down. There is an investigation happening.
Is there a way to figure out which SOURCES are causing problems?
nvm I think I figured it out---will be back if this doesn't workout
That message means you’re missing a class, species, or ability scores.
it usually happens to me when a glitch happens on the ability score screen which doesn't save all of the numbers
APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP
Spent all day trying to figure this out 😂
You guys are awesome!
Is there a way to export/print your character sheet from DDB in the newer 2024 version? Right now it's only printing in the old version. Didn't know if I was just missing something.
I’m afraid not
Aww. Ooooookaaaayyyyy. 🙂
Heyyy, so I’m new and bought an essentials box starter kit thingy that had some digital codes in it but the one to get a discount on the phb doesnt seem to work, the qr code and manually typing the link takes me to an error page with an ooze. Is it a website hiccup or a discontinued code or something?
I'm not sure that code is still available to redeem - but you could check with customer support
?tag ddb support

Nwww thanksss

Hey, so the Maps are doing this after basically every other Roll for everyone in my session including the DM. And when it does comeback its wiping the Game Log history.
Hello why it takes more than a week for Ddb to delete an account. Do you find this normal ?
This is I’m not even kidding the worse app and worse support I’ve never seen
They make millions of dollar and they are not even capable to delete account. This is like insane
You delete a text. I’m sure you can answer mine 😉
You have been reminded, asked and warned not to ping the moderator role for this issue. Continuing to abuse the feature will not get you the answer you want.
We’ll see you answer faster 😉
You can delete a text but don’t take the time to answer me so
Have you submitted this form? https://dndbeyond-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/articles/7747241271444-Deleting-Your-Account
it was linked to you earlier.
and did they respond to confirm your identity?
So if you have submitted that back to them, you can see right on the page that talks about the process it says "Requests can take up to 30 days to complete after identification."
If you are already in the process there is nothing we can do to make it go faster. They will be working on your request if you are already to this stage.
This is a joke
We can only apologize that it is not at the pace you would prefer.. but it is plainly stated in writing that it is not an instant turn around and you will have to wait.
Deleting an account is permanent.. no bringing it back if someone has regrets a week later, so they take it seriously. They also don't want someones account getting deleted by someone pretending to be the account holder.
Deleting an account is like anywhere else lol.
Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, discord, Twitter, Netflix etc if you want to delete an account with those platform it’s one button and instant. Idk why they make a big deal about it I’ve never seen this
you could spend a great deal more to have content on DDB than those other platforms and would lose it all permanently when you make this request. I am sure their process is not arbitrary..
Your concerns with the speed of this process have been conveyed to the Community Manager in any case.
Sounds good
My account is new. No character, no campaign, no content. Nothing. It’s just a blank account that is glitch.
By the way, it did give her me the answer I wanted 😉
We became aware of this issue today. We are still investigating what's causing it.
One thing I'd love for you to try is to end the session, have everyone close out of ddb, then start fresh with a new session and everyone reconnecting.
Let me know if that helps. If it doesn't, can you dm me your Ddb username and the URL to your campaign?
That seems to be working now. But it did break on the first couple test rolls. But then started working. Will send you a DM just incase.
okay after a dozen or so rolls it started acting up again. But not as frequently.
Is there an ETA on how long these take to get answered btw? I submitted it yesterday and got a confirmation email but it doesn’t say how long roughly a response could take?
Unfortunately no, we can't provide an ETA for when you'll get a response. We don't have any insight on the customer service workload and where your ticket is in the queue.
It is around a week moost of the time I do reports (but it can take longer or shorter)
How often does ddb do sales? My bf and I are brand new to d&d and we got the icespire starter pack and so far we did one game where i was dm and he was the player and we had tons of fun so we want to buy more things but they are so expensive when they start adding up.
Do these go on sale? : players handbook, dungeonmasters handbook. The monster book and the two books of everything, tasha and someone else.
Also does anyone recommend any other ones to wishlist? I love creative story telling so I especially like the idea of things that would expand our pool of magical items and spells and stuff to weave in ways for my bf [and maybe one day other friends playing] to think outside the box and use lots of imagination to overcome things
I saw they do sales around black friday/cyber monday etc but we just got into it, so are we out of luck until the end of the year? 😭
Why does dndbeyond say my monk subclass doesn't have the right levels for its features when it does?
nevermind, fixed it
How would I go about having a homebrew spell deal damage equal to the casters proficiency bonus? I'm looking at the Modifier section of the spell and I want to make it deal damage for the purposes of automation, but "Proficiency Bonus is not a valid number"...
What is the pre-requisite book requirement to select the “known wild shapes” in the character creator tool? (For Druids)
Just owning the PHB 2024 (and MP:MotM) doesn’t seem to give the option for known forms.
I think I'm just gonna have to add level scaling for each time the damage increases I guess...
As far as I am aware, I don't think there is a drop down in the character creator itself for this. You just have to add different monsters into your Extra's tab in the sheet itself
But someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong
Not seeing the ability to add “known forms” into the “extras” tab. Does that require the MM (2024)?
Or the DMG (2024)?
No? All I did for my 2024 Druid was just go to the Extras tab, clicke dManage Extras and then added the appropriate amount of Wileshapes to the Wild Shape 2024 option
Where did you see “mange extras”?
You won’t see it in the app. You’ll need to use the website.
@dry imp Right next to the search bar when the Extras tab is selected
Great, now I can't add an image to my Homebrew race...
I'm still having trouble with this?
Could someone please give me suggestions on this? I just want the damage to go up by one each when the player reaches level 5, then again at levels 9, 13 and 17
Okay...
Look at how spells like Firebolt add damage dice based on level then using that same design have your spell deal different damage based on the players level.
You will also have to look at what levels give what proficiency bonus so you can set it correctly.
I know what levels give proficiency bonus
0ne through four is plus 2, five through nine has plus 3, ten through twelve has plus 4, thirteen through sixteen has plus 5 and seventeen through twenty has plus 6
You would need to set a fixed value for damage.
Give me about 30mins and I can send a screenshot of an example
I have an example, but that example does not help because it doesn't seem to work. Every time I try something new with the spell, I refresh the character, unselect the spell, refresh the character and then choose the spell again and the damage is still 2 even though the prof bonus is 3
And the example is Sacred Flame, which deals 1d8 damage. The increase of damage is an extra d8 at certain levels
Thanks for the offer of help by the way. I'm sure you can tell I'm rather frustrated by this
Another thing to remember, homebrew edits can take 15 minutes to show on the character sheet.
Yes, but I've been at this for over two hours
I am trying to create a new character, but for some reason, the Aasimar species is not showing, i enabled all content options, but it seems to be just gone
anyone else has that problem, or is it specific to me?
It seems to be specific to you
Perhaps you should refresh, though I'm sure you tried that
Maybe try searching for Aasimar in the search bar?
Is there a way to make homebrew classes
There is not. But the devs know it is something that is wanted
i did, but only the 2014 variant Aasimar shows up
Alright I'll just use an alternative then ig
I don’t think that’s possible in the current homebrew system.
You know what? It is very late for me right now, so I should porbablt just go to bed anyway
I'll see if I can fix this in the morning
Do you own the 2024 players handbook?
yes, the species showing up in my earlier screenshot are the 2024 ones
Just use the normal classes for the hp rolls and asi and do the rest on a different sheet or make custom feats and figure out some way to grant them ig
That is not what I am asking
I am asking if you have bought the 2024 player handbook
To use aasimar you need to have bought the 2024 players handbook (it is not free foe everyone)
yes, i did
can you check if your licences are in sync
Seems to be in order

Than you should contact customer support
Sorry we do not have a schedule of planned sales - best thing to do is watch #dnd-announcements and the DnDBeyond website for any potential sales.
Sure
thanks
Can you post a screenshot of the subclasses selection
Sorry, that was meant in response to someone else.
Is the 2024 PHB listed on that same page under Current Product Licenses?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses
this is the whole page
If you buy the physical box set of books on amazon can you add them to ddb digitally somehow?
Whit homebrew
Would that mean u get stuck in their premium subscription then?
Unfortunately we do not have a floating license system and buying physical only gets you a physical book, and buying it on Roll20 only gets you the Roll20 product, and buying it on DnDBeyond only gets you the digital DnDBeyond product.
Premium subscriptions unlock unlimited character slots and access to other tools
And monthly subscriber perks
do you mean in the character creation?
Whats better?
Also you do- i bought the dnd essential kit and it gave me a code to add it to my dnd beyond account, u just stopped doing that im guessing
You would need to reach out to customer service if the code is not being accepted (I think that promotion has ended)
Better is a matter of what makes the most sense and value for you
It is not needed anymore
You own the 2024 basic rules not the 2024 players handbook (that is why you can't make an aasimar)
huh,. i purchased the digital and physical bundle back when they came out and got a code i activated
Are you logged in
Sorry it took me a bit longer then I said but here is an example of how to set it up.
Yes but we're talking about the old starter set which came with a code to unlock some content on DnDBeyond. I'm not sure this promotion is still active.
so i need to find the activation code again to tell Beyond that i purchased the books?
Again I'm speaking about Stossy's issue with the 2014 starter set that had a DnDBeyond promotion
That promotion may not be active now
so this did not give me the book in DnD beyond?
It did based on the D&D Beyond Digital Copy right there
Did you get a code with your receipt?
yes and i just checked, it says i did activate it already
Okay so you should be good to go.
and i did have access to the 2024 rules all this time
when making characters i have access to all classes, subclasses etc, just specifically Aasimar is unavailable
Dous this link work?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/species/1751434-aasimar
yes
Juast Aasimar are not showing up as a species in the character creator... interesting.
can i check somehow what books i own in Beyond?
Here (if it gat fixed) or in licenses
https://www.dndbeyond.com/en/library?ownership=owned
im so confused, this says i dont own it
i redeemed my keys back then and i do have access to the books
No, im saying I used the code and successfully added my starter set to my digital portfolio.
This was in response to you saying there’s no structure in place to facilitate a system where customers buying physical editions with digital content
Than it is still bugged (there was bug that made books bought in bundles not show)
Log out and in, that fixed it for me, it showed i owned them in the site but not in the app
nope, still does not show. Should i contact support for the missing books?
Can you try to open them in all
i am in a campaign where they are shared with me, thats probably why i could open them. But then my key redeem didnt do anything a year ago
All good on your tardiness or whatever the phrase, but that is basically what I had on my spell. I'm on my phone, not my PC so I can't really show my own screen shots
If everything els from the player handbook is showing up it did get redeemed on your account
I recommend you go to customer support they can probably fix it
okay, thanks for your efforts
How do you incorporate sidekicks into the campaign on ddb? I had one premade called donnabella fiasco that I wanted to use, her physical card said to use spellcaster-sidekick stat blocks but I couldnt find that in listings
Before WotC took over, I used to get pretty good sales on almost all sourcebooks (not adventures) during those times. Now, it seems to be mainly older books when the sales happen and they are usually a lot smaller % sales, and almost never on the more in demand books at the time.
As to timing, it is worth looking regularly. Most sales are at least a week and seem to be promoted in the main marketplace page. There doesn't seem to be more than 10-20 items on sale so a check of any current sale can be two minutes of your day.
Things could change, but this is the reality right now. I would have liked to give you better options but I don't think there are. Sales are just less frequent, less expansive, and less of a bargain.
Thank you so much for an actual human response ❤️
You might have just made an error in the moment but as you said you knew and it might cause a later confusion in DDB results, it should be noted that +3 is L5-8 and +4 is L9-12, not 5-9 and 10-12.
Im not sure if they are having the same error but using what i screenshotted to them earlier i get 2 damage at level 3 (expected)and I get no damage at level 5 when im expecting 3 damage
And I looked at Ray of Frost to be sure and its set up just like it in regards to the level scaling and when it should take affect
Not sure. Haven't tried to code up something like that. More commenting on the expectation of proficiency changeover points.
That does seem to be off though. Feels like a bug or something that is hard coded. What happens if you try something in the L9-12 and L13-16 range?
Same issue at level 10 and 15
What level is the spell? If it is a cantrips, leveled spelling and "by character level" may be only trying to add extra dice. To get just the prof bonus, what die size do you have the spell set at? Perhaps it does not like that setting causing this to burp.
Can you try making it something like d4 + prof instead? If it works, we can hopefully pin down why.
Let me try and see. As of right now there is no dice set
So adding a dice made it work. It seems to be a bug where if you dont have a dice set it wont show anything
Ill make a post about it in feedback
You could try something like 1d0 or 0d1 and see if it will work. But you could report it either way.
But yeah, we at least got the problem localised.
A d0 isnt an option and the min value for dice count is 1
Ah well. Yeah, I think they will need to fix then for this to work.
@leaden socket If you are having issues similar to what I posted about above then it is currently a bug.
Im trying to buy the ultimate bundle digitial/physical set from the UK but it takes me to a partner store in the UK that doesnt have a google login (how i log in to my account) so how am I going to complete this purchase and get my digital content?
You will have to buy it from dndstore.wizards.com then I believe you will get a code in your email to redeem on DnD Beyond
Tyty, its more expensive in my region
cute
So far, first impressions of wizards of the wild west are a little shaky icl
Yeah, we usually pay US prices. I prefer digital because I don't have to deal with shipping silliness and I can usually source physical copies at a more reasonable price locally. So, dndstore usually solves all my needs.
-# side note, from reports here, I could swear it also works better than the partner store setups. Purely from observation, it just seems like dndstore works better.
Good shout! Can I trust buying digital copies? I noticed they are licenses so they could freely just remove them without needing to give a reason, is that something they have done in the past?
Im starting to be a bit wary the deeper I delve into this hobby lol
So, they have occasionally "discontinued" a certain product. Up to this point, while they may have stopped selling certain products, if I had already purchased them (thus far anyway), they have never removed any prodcut that I have purchased from access in my library.
Obviously though, things could change and D&D Beyond could theoretically be discontinued. But honestly, they seem to be embracing digital lately and especially on DDB, so it seems safe right now.
You can trust them just fine. Some people will doom and gloom about "they can take them away if they want!" but it'll essentially never happen. They'll last as long as Beyond lasts, which for all we know will be longer than any physical book would, who knows?
It's feeling more and more that if they got rid of anything, it feels like it would be paper books. They really do seem to be pushing digital.
Ok sweet, thanks guys. And I guess last question is (this may sound stupid but remember I am brand new to the franchise).
Is it worth investing in the player handbook / dungeonmaster handbook / monster book for 5e? Im not going to buy these then within a few months a 6e will come out or something right?
BTW, I have no indications that paper books are going away any time soon. Just seems to be the trend right now.
They're almost certainly not going away for a long, long time if ever.
I imagine they'd only go away when the consumer base stops asking for them.
A 6e, if/when one happens, is not on the docket for a long time.
Personally. assuming you plan to actually play and not just, "well, that was interesting and move on", a PH is an easy thing to recommend and I would highly suggest it.
DMG can be very useful as a tool for DMs to guide them and give them advice, but it is not required. However, the DMG has the basic magic items that a lot of content put out as published adventures tends to use, so it can be a useful purchase even for players.
Monster Manual is seemingly intended for DMs, but a number of features used to use statblocks that would come from the monster books. However, in this 2024 edition, while Polymorph and similar might stilll use the Monster Manual, a lot of things have been converted to statblocks provided in the PH so it is easier to do without this book as a player.
Yeah, if you're just a player, only get the Monster Manual if you're a Moon Druid or plan to use the Polymorph spell frequently.
But those 3 books are your basic core. If you're only ever buying 3 books in 5E, you'll get a lot of mileage with just those 3.
So I got a starter kit and spent ages learning and I dm’s a campaign for my bf, so 1 player 1dm and I loved dming, I wanted to buy in on these things so I could be more creative and offer him more cool magical items for fun encounters etc
We have only played once so far but we are definitely invested 😄
If you're going to be the one DMing, I highly recommend all 3.
Side note though.... It's sometimes best to check what your DM is playing, 2014 or 2024 and buy the corresponding book. If you're completely new and won't be joining someone else's game, i would just go straight to 2024. Personally, I consider the changes they made sufficiently good enough that I wouldn't recommend 2014 to newer players as I like a lot of what 2024 has done, but that's just MHO.
-# there are some hardcore 2014s out there that may never switch so a game you find might be using the older books.
He did end up getting mauled to death by a manticore in umbrage hill but it wasnt my fault, i think I was a good dm, I tried really hard to get him to negotiate/bribe rather than blast it
I would also recommend running a published adventure over creating one from scratch for your first non-starter set game, unless you're a really creative person. It can be a good way to get your feet wet without the investment of "I have to create a whole world and plot and everything."
Some recommendations:
- Since you seem to have played Icespire Peak, maybe continue into Sleeping Dragon's Wake, Storm Lord's Wrath, and Divine Contention, the official sequels to it.
- Dragon Delves: a good anthology of Dragons in Dungeons, what's not to love?
- Candlekeep Mysteries: a collection of one-or-two-shot adventures that you can run individually or string together
Edit: two more
- Tales from the Yawning Portal or Quests from the Infinite Staircase for anthologies of longer adventures than Candlekeep and Dragon Delves, but still relatively short individually
Well he called the manticore a bozo, failed every roll miserably, he actually rolled two nat 1’s in a row and got mauled by it and had his last hope (a potion of healing tossed to him by adabra in the windmill) land and shatter on his face when he tried to catch it (the second nat 1) so I had no choice but to ‘gg everything goes black’ and end it lmao.
I’m not sure how I would continue that particular story unless he wakes up in phandalin somehow
You could gather a slightly larger party of players (most adventures are written with 4 or so in mind, 1-on-1 isn't usually a consideration, hence the horrible death) and arrive to see what happened to the previous adventurer that showed up to help and mysteriously disappeared.
That said, a couple of the adventures in Dragon Delves are designed for a solo player, so those might be your speed if you can't gather more for now.
I started him at level 3 and I had him meet an npc who gave him a sending stone that I kind of nudged him in the direction of using when he spotted the manticore so I could use her to explain how dangerous it is and that he could bribe it with some gold or food, I also gave him a goblin encounter on the way where he picked up a little packet of dust of disappearance so he had another non violent approach he could take.
But yep.
He used thaumaturgy - booming voice and called the manticore a bozo and after some salvage attempts he got into combat with it lool
Thanks for helping out folks but we do need to keep this channel clear for folks to get help with any DnDBeyond technical support issues - feel free to take the discussion to a more appropriate channel (see #channel-guide)
Oh it just says support, not technical support so I thought we could ask for help with purchases and using the interface / content. Sorry
It is for that - but I'm seeing more tales from your D&D games being posted now rather than actual support questions
Generally context helps so people can give more tailored advice (see how he was able to advise me on what content to use to help continue my ddb experience) and a bit of on-topic chatter builds a nice community feeling but if clinical robotic q&a is what you’re going for, pop off king.
Per server rules we do ask folks to keep things generally on topic - while some off-topic chatter is understandable, at this point I do need to ask you to use a more appropriate channel for your tales of your D&D games then this channel.
Yeah- anyways thanks for the help guysss ^^ I’ll look into the dragon delves and buy the content you recommended
Do you have the Core Rules enable? As you should at the very least be able to see one subclass there
Did you choose the 2024 class
I think so?
If you are ok with it can you share a link to your character? If you do please make sure to set the character privacy to public.
Hang on, let me try something?
Dous it show
or
The second
You will have to turn on the 2014 core rules then
You dont see the subclass you want right?
There's only one subclass option
Thats expected if you dont own the 2014 players handbook on DnD Beyond. Or any of the expand rule books
I have to buy the whole digital handbook just to unlock Gloom Stalker?
Try the other Ranger
Either that or be in a campaign that has it shared with you.
Also the 2014 gloom Stalker isnt in the players handbook like it is for the 2024 handbook
is this the right channel to ask for help on dndbeyond rulebooks n stuff
That would be #dnd-rules
This channel is for getting help with the dnd beyond toolset
is the toolset the part where you add the stuff in? i got a rulebook but the stuff doesn’t appear when i try to make a character, different channel for that aswell ?

If you can’t access a book or find an available character option, here’s some important things to check:

Cleric (the 2024 class) might not be available for
Cleric (the 2014 class) and vice versa.
No that would be this channel.
Did you buy the digital book or do you have a physical book?
digital
I would check your account entitlements at the link above
Which book did you buy?
explorers guide to wildermount
it says it’s in sync but i mainly got it so i could do echo knight
You will also have to make sure 3rd part content is on for your character
And you will have to use the 2014 fighter to be able to pick that. So be sure to have the 2014 core rules turned on
i was told that’s the one to get but whenever i try to make it, none of its material shows up
oh i can’t use 2024 version of fighter with it?
Is partnered content onn and are you using the 2014 class
No because it hasnt been updated by the creators
oh okay that makes more sense, thank you i was confused
What you could do is make a homebrew copy of the 2014 subclass to see how it was set up.
Is there no option to buy single subclasses anymore?
no i tried
Then just make a 2024 subclass with the same setup.
i really only wanted that subclass but you gotta buy the whole book
okay thank you
Shouldn’t take more than five minutes or so.
They took that ability away with the Market Place refresh in 2024
Okay so I bought these :
Players Handbook / DM Guide / Monster Manual / Tashas Cauldron of Everything / Xanathar's Guide to Everything.
The core stuff is all 2024, so do I uncheck the 2014 stuff when I make a character? or do I keep the expanded rules ticked like this so I can use the 'Everything' Books?
I would uncheck legacy so you dont get confused by two different version of spells and items. What you leave checked or unchecked is really just a preface and how you plan to play that character
Thanks! I just want to play like... Lore accurate and in the most modern format if that makes sense 😛
Ah damnit, you are right. I had the levels right in the editor, but not written down here
Well... At least we know what the problem is
Oh my god, I am such a bumbling fool... I never even checked the "At Higher Level Scaling?" box... This might change everything for me
Hi, I’m new to the dnd beyond website
I am unable to select a character species from the home brew collection in the character editor.
Any ideas?
Do you have homebrew turned on for that character?
I'm trying to figure out Natural Armor for a Homebrew race, but it isn't seeming to work. I've set the bonus to 2 but the AC is supposedly 22, so that is ratehr frustrating
Yes but I don’t see it in the species dropdown.
Only the standard 4 are in there
Have you added the homebrew species to your homebrew collection?
If you made it yourself, you also need it to be added to your collection to show up.
I have added one from the public and can see it in my collection
Do you have a subscription?
I do have the basic sub
This is annoying I’m running a game for young ones that all want their special species, and I cannot print their sheets with the custom names
Do you have the right class the homebrew was made for? (If it was made for the 2014 class are you using the 2014 class)
Can you send a screenshot of the class logo at the top? You can see it from your homebrew collection menu
A species wouldn’t have a class logo at the top.
Does it show that species here?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/my-collection
If i remember correctly homebrew won't be listed as a source on that menu.
You should be able to search it in the search bar
Still not finding it
Do I need to buy some material for this? Origin manager says I don’t have anything available
Hi, just wanted to confirm there is no workaround to add my physical books to D&D Beyond?
I bought Xanathar's Guide to Everything and the Player Handbook from my local game store and doesn’t appear it came with a registration code or anything similar.
I just wanted to check as buying the digital copy in USD and local exchange rate, is going to cost me the same as what I already paid for the physical copy.
Ok, jackrabbit harefolk I can see
Something with wolfkind prevents it
One of the most common issues I see here with respect to things like this is people accidentally putting 12 when they only wanted a 2 bonus. Any chance you entered 12 as well?
If not that, could you send a link to a character with this on. Even in error, it is not clear to me how you are getting to 22. Set the privacy to public so we can view the share. You can always reverse the privacy change for the character after.
You can use the homebrew tools to get you stuff on dndbeyond.
Thank you, will have a look into that.
?books
There are four ways to access content on D&D Beyond that you may have in your physical books:
- Purchase the full digital book from the marketplace
- Purchase a digital/physical bundle from the marketplace
- Join a D&D Beyond campaign with someone who already owns the book where content sharing has been enabled
- Use the homebrew tools to copy the content from your physical book into D&D Beyond (Note: Do not publish any content copied in this way; it is for personal use only)
I think that one is broken.
Unfortunately, people ignore the advice of DDB people to review their homebrew before publishing and sometimes it is broken when published.
Try the one from ViperStrike112. At first glance, it is working for me. (Stoveclock is not working for me either.)
Alternatively, Qo-dok's seems to work as well.
Thank you
Will do
Didn’t think that the published species are broken
Especially with a lot of views
And of course it was the first one I tried 😭
To be honest, I would think it shouldn't be because I don't know why anyone would publish something they could not even add but people are silly sometimes.
Also, views while seemingly useful, are not as good as a higher rating. Rating comes from people giving a thumbs up or thumbs down which usually is a result of actually trying the homebrew. The two I gave you were the only 2 with a rating of 10+.
-# if you really want to help fellow homebrew user, giving a positive reaction to the homebrew (I think it is thumbs up) helps drive up the rating making it easier for people to find what they need that actually works. Theoretically, if we all only upvote the better homebrew, we all win.
Oh yeah I resloved that a while ago. The issue I was talking about was how this was supposed to be natural armour, but it still stacked with things like Plate armour. But I figured it out, because I'm super smort
Hsy! I’m attempting to play the storm into isle solo and it won’t work or give any info on how to play, I don’t have a DM
You should ask for help in #dnd-newcomers
I was told to ask in here
Is the problem that you cannot access the materials or you can access the materials but are unsure how to use them?
The former is likely here, while the latter is a #dnd-newcomers issue.
How do I make my own set distance for the darkvision modifier
I see the sense thing and I can pick darkvision there. Do I just put the distance in the details?
Put it in Fixed Value.
You can make a homebrew copy of an official feature that adds darkvision if you want to see exactly how they set it up.
hey all, i have the 2014 players handbook shared with me but i cannot select the necromancer subclass, the only option available is the evoker, can anyone think of why this is?
Are you making the character inside the campaign where that content is being shared?
Making the character outside the campaign where the content is being shared means you'll be limited to only what options you personally own.
Also make sure you're using the 2014 wizard class (
= 2014 wizard, not the 2024 wizard
)
And make sure to toggle legacy on the character sheet.
i did not know that!
#dnd-newcomers is where you want to ask.
Specifically when i press the enter key to select the result in the drop down menu from the Skilled feat, i get a 500 error.
Alright,
How do I modify a home brew species for myself
I can’t select a home brew species as input for a new species and there’s no edit button
It’s not possible to edit other another user’s homebrew or select it as a template for your own.
The point is to use their homebrew.
Anyone else having issues with Homebrewing, where you constangly get Internal Server Errors when going to another screen. Especially when trying to homebrew Subclasses?
I get that when i upload images
It throws that error if you upload an image that is larger than the max filesize.
Oh ok thanks!
I get it in more places than images. Slows down when changing screens and then boom the error with the Beholder on it
There is no limit to the amount of Homebrew you create is there?
Now I basically have to manually copy all that stuff instead of removing that one trait I don’t like
Hey guys, i have a question. is it still possible to get the Aurora Borealis dice?
so guys ive just bought 3 books from dnd beyond. me and my friends are using foundary as our table top. we bouhgt on beyond becasue that meant we didnt have to be tied to foundary forever. the only problem is creating characters. we cant use the books to create our characters bc we bought it NOT on foundary. so if i was to share the content to using the master sub, does anyone know if that data carries over when leveling? like say our 1 month is up, but we leveled up, it doesnt matter right? bc the data is already on foundary? or any time we level up, we will need to resub to get the stuff from the books
Dndbeyond doesn’t really interact with Foundry in any special way, so sort of ignore it in this discussion.
The only thing your subscription for dndbeyond does is grant content sharing, which lets others in a campaign use the shared content. Once characters are made, they are made, and they don’t lose access to content after it’s added to them. Sometimes this can be relevant, though, if you level up and need to select new spells but don’t have them shared then you might not be able to select them, etc. The same can happen for other parts of the sheet as well, like subclass selection, etc.
But the thing is once we import the page from ddb, would it matter if the subscription ran out and would we lose access then.
Maybe this is more suited for foundry discord specifically the more I think about it
Id just refund but i gifted it and you cant refund gifts if they are claimed lol
anyone knows whats up with companions in Maps?
I've been trying to add a companion to one of my players but it does not show up in the companions tab in tokens.
Its homebrew but it does show up in the monsters tab with no problem.
I've tried putting it in the extras tab of the player sheet as a familiar, beast companion, mount, pet, and everything.
But it still does not show up in companions
asking on behalf of my partner because they are stressing & doing session prep at the same time...
quite a few ($1000+ worth) of 2014 books that are both owned and shared via a campaign to their account are showing only as shared, not owned, on the Library page. We have already tried syncing entitlements per the instructions at https://dndbeyond-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/articles/7747224765588-Sync-Entitlements and it did not resolve the issue. Is there any kind of known issue with book ownership display in the Library view?
to be clear: the books can still be accessed from their account, but the seemingly removed licenses are causing some consternation.
That is a known graphical bug in the new interface. It is being actively worked by the devs.
You should still see the licenses for those books in your licenses listing under Account.
Thank you so much for confirming. We've been having a little bit of a stressful evening over this.
The reason why it isn't showing up on the companions tab in maps is because you are having trouble getting it to be added to extras.
Is there a class feature or feat that gives this character this companion? And if there isn't have you tried making one with homebrew?
Back here again, this time trying ti figure out a resistance thing. I made some extra Fiendish Legacy optiond ofr the tiefling, and one of them has a random resistance that changes after every long ret. The options are supposed to be Acid, Cold, Fire and Lightning, but for some reason, Thunder is showing up as an option
Because I have a bunch of other legacy options too, I didn't just made this its own race. I just copied the 2024 tiefling and edited the appropriate legacies into new ones and added other new ones
When it came to the homebrew for this specific legacy, I chose "Modifier: Resistance - Choose a Damage Resistance". In the Restriction I wrote "Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning". Why is Thunder showing up? Was the modifier always for those 5 damage types? Is there no way for me to just remove Thunder?
That modifier is for elemental damage resistances, yes, and what you type into the Restriction is just text and not an actual rule or anything.
So, what text would I add for the desired effect?
I think what you've done is probably your best bet, though, and then just instruct players not to choose Thunder. It's how I'd do it.
Yeah, unfortunately not every permutation is available, just what has historically been programmed in for official stuff.
I'm hopeful that whatever big overhaul Zac's been talking about going on in the back-end opens up homebrewing more. It's the most important part of the site for me.
Oh yeah, that'd be cool
Follow-up. I was using a machine that still had Windows 10. Upgraded to Windows 11, and everything seems to be working.
How would I give a resistance a Barbarian while they are Raging through a Homebrew Subclass?
For 2014, you could try copying the L3 Bear option of the Path of the Wild Heart in 2024, or the L3 Bear option of the Path of the Totem Spirit for 2014. As those give resistances and both come with their corresponding PH, a copy of those should tell you exactly how to through a subclass.
You could also add a Feat or a Magic Item, both of which should be able to add a Resistance. Just activate whichever one applies when it does. If it's something that you want to turn on and off and won't be using subclass, I personally would use Magic Item because you can just "tick" equip when it applies.
Copy how barbarian rage is implemented and give it to them as an option they select when they rage. You can see how this has been done already with stuff like bladesong.
I've already made a homebrew subclass for it, and for some reason, you cannot delete any homebrew ever. It just stays, and I hate flooding my homebrew creations with things that I don't want or that I made by accident
Is there any way to replicate the select proficiency thing in homebrew backgrounds
So, it depends if you published the Homebrew. The DDB people keep telling people not to publish until its done for that reason, it will be permanent. But general homebrew in your collection can be deleted at any time (I do it all the time when I'm testing things for people), and I just created a copy of hte battlemaster and was able to delete that copy from my creations, so it seems like the only reason you'd be unable to delete your homebrew is if you're publishing it, as Homebrew can both be deleted from My Homebrew Collection and My Homebrew Creations (assuming you haven't published it).
Is there a way to convert a char sheet made in 5e to 5.5e
Without some manual intervention, I don't think so.
If you own the necessary books (or the specific character is in a campaign where they are shared) though, one can go in the character editor, activate the 2024 stuff in Home Tab, then remove any 2014 stuff with a big one being the class tab and add back in 2024 stuff. Spells and Equipment should then be updated as well.
You’d probably need to use Options instead. Set up each choice (like Acid) as its own Option, and inside add anything that depends on that choice (like a Modifier that grants Acid Resistance).
This can likewise be done with Options. This time, do not check “Has Options”. Instead, mark your Option as Granted and give it a prerequisite for Activate Rage.
Hi I wanna make my first campaign as an DM so I'm kinda excited, but I work with dnd beyond and foundry, is there any way how I can make my own species in there or is the best I can do just take a similar race?
You can create a homebrew species here on D&D Beyond:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew/creations/create-species
The folks in #third-party might know how to do it in Foundry.
does anyone know of a fix for this. My party plays using the dnd mobile app. My problem is on dndbeyond website i made a homebrew weapon abilities the whole 9. on web browser it works as intended. if you run the mobile app it lists the name of abilities/spells the weapon gives. but whereas the web browser you would click on it and it would go into the description of the ability/spell and list damage. the mobile app wont show that so all you see is the name. am i really going to have to make every ability individually and add it to their character that way so it works on the mobile app.
I just double-checked this myself and the player should be able to see homebrew descriptions and the like by pressing on the name of the thing in the mobile app. If this isn't what you're describing, can you take a screenshot of your issue and post it here?
Thinking about it more, it may be a case where you filled in the description (which only shows with a press on the feature and in popup description) but you didn't fill in the snippet, which is what shows directly on the character sheet. Make sure both are filled in.
i figured it out. what was messing me up is on the website if looking at the weapon it had any spells it gives listed. when you click on the spell from the weapon page it went to the spells card. on the mobile app it doesnt do that so you have to actually go to the spells page and then it shows up. just the executions between the 2 versions.
Is there a way to change username on ddb? Also how do I enable more books, as one of my characters is an artificer and I have TCoE downloaded but it won't let me play as an artificer?
- Make a post in this thread requesting the name change: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/bugs-support/65846-display-name-change-request-thread-v2
- TCoE lets you play
, which is the 2014 Artificer. Make sure you're playing with the legacy expanded rules enabled to play with that Artificer. If you want
, the 2024 Artificer, you need Eberron: Forge of the Artificer (EFotA) instead.
Thanks
It's still not working
Caveat: I wasn't able to view the video.
As you said the TCoE is downloaded, I'm guessing you are working on a device like a phone as my Android device usually requires a download to view whereas the website does not.
Downloading is actually not the requirement for using in the character creator though. One of the following has to be true about that book:
- You own the book
- The character that you are trying to use the book on is in a campaign with a person sharing the book with you This a common thing people do not realize. The specific character has to be in the specific campaign where the book is being shared for the content to be accessible.
I'll also send you the more general blurb with the checklist for missing content. If you go through this list and confirm each one, most, if not all, missing content issues are usually resolved. The most common exception is where an actual bug exists, but they are rare and unlikely in the case you have here.
?tag ddb missing
For #3, for TCoE, you will need 2014 Expanded Rules or Expanded Rules to be ticked in the home tab of your character. (I just forget which one but one of the two will activate TCoE. Ticking both ensures you will have the one you need.)
@dense pike See above.
So my friend has access to an adventure book and I have s master tier subscription so i get to host a campaign where he gets to share his sourcebook. However, when i look at content management, the book he owns does not appear and hence, not shared What could be causing this?
Did you buy TCOE yourself, or is it shared with you through one of your campaigns?
Shared character options can only be used for characters in that campaign.
- Are you sure it isn't under a sligthly different name? For example, if the name starts with "The", maybe it's sorted under the 2nd word's first letter instead of in the Ts?
- May I ask what book it is so I can see if it is in my list?
When you say he has access to the book, do you mean that he purchased it himself?
Yes
I compared two campaigns, one where i get to share and one he hosts. He hosts more book than mine which is weird because in both cases, he is the one with booms
Books
Its as if some books only appears if he is the campaign host
If he checks this page, is that book listed under Current Product Licenses?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses
-# Edit: link fixed
Wdym
On that page I just linked is a section called Current Product Licenses.
The link that Spamandtuna sent is how D&D Beyond determines what you own and have rights to. If the book isn't there, then we would have to address why it isn't. (you cannot share what you do not have rights to basically.)
If your friend checks that section, is that missing book listed there?
Thta link is just the homepage
Sorry, this one. 😅
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses
Yeah he had the book. Like I said I compared his own campaign hosting vs. mine where he is joined.
Can you have him check that page?
You seeing it in the other campaign just means that someone in that campaign has that book.
If that someone is not your friend, that would explain why it’s not shared in your campaign.
But we are the only players in that dummy campaign of his
He made that campaign as test
Can you maybe send a screenshot of the two campaigns so we can see something that is missing?
Will wait for his reply
One thing you can try the slider that shares all adventure content at the top of the content management page. This way, if it's in an unexpected place on the list, it should automatically be ticked for you so that you can see if the content appears.
It's shared
Then like I said, you’ll only be able to use it for characters in the campaign that’s sharing it.
You’d need to own it yourself to use it for characters outside of a campaign.
Ok
I have 6 other Fiendish Legacies and such, and since I just copied the 2024 tiefling, they're all already options. I suppose I could try and add an option after they make their spellcasting choice...
Hmm, there is no Activate Rage in the "Prerequisite Class Feature Option"... Would the Prerequisite Text actually apply the resistance only during Active Rage if I type in there?
Yeah, I've deleted some old homebrew to test this, and the deleted stuff is still in my Homebrew Creations. So it hasn't actually been deleted
Is beyond down right now? I keep getting gateway timeouts on source material - specifically tomb of annihilation but can test others to troubleshoot if needed.
I've been getting it too occasionally while editing my homebrews
Update, appears to be all source books for me - owned or shared.
I've tested a second device with the same result
Getting huge lag and frequent errors on DDB. Is it the forums again?
For context, this was trying to filter for a specific monster name under Game Rules > Monsters
Hey all, status page has just been updated; we're aware of the site issues and are investigating
I just did some poking of my own (I have a game tonight, so I'm hoping for a fast resolve); if homepage and navigation are the only things affected, if there's anything you need character or campaign-wise, a direct link might get you there faster
I'm glad you're similarly invested in a solution haha, I also have a game tonight ❤️
Status page update! We've figured out a possible source and a fix is being implemented.
Something is broken there. I have the 2024 MM....
There’s a known issue with that monster specifically.
I guess because this is one of the cases where same stat block sets 2 different sizes
Anyhow, not a biggie
i've a feeling this isn't the place to ask but i have tales from the yawning portal purchased, but i don't have access to the maps on dnd beyond. This isn't the biggest issue i'm aware. but has that been a thing for anyone else?
I don't think the Yawning Portal maps have been added to Maps yet
Question, I'm making my first character in beyond and in one place it asks to write down a description and afterwards bellow it asks to write down a backstory. Is that the same thing or is description just a detailed explanation on how my character looks like alongside his personality?
Description is like describing what your character is like, basic appearance, etc.
Backstory is like where in your game's world your character comes from, what they did before becoming an adventurer, and why they became an adventurer.
That's what the fields are for but how you would use them may be impacted by the D&D game and group youre playing with.
Oh ok, thank you for explaining
so i am a druid, i can't seem to find my wilde shipe attacks
or the page for the wilde shape features
Cannot find it in the rulebook or on the character sheet in DDB?
In the character sheet page, it says I have to add wilde shape through the "extra tab" but it's not appearing on the sheet
Are you on the web browser or the app?
Web browser
Starting from viewing a character sheet, you should be able to do the following.
- view the druid's character sheet on the website through a web browser (last I checked, the app cannot do it!). Druid should be at least 2nd level.
- click the Extras tab. On mobile, click the 9 dots on bottom right, then pick Extras.
- Click Manage Extras.
- Under Add an Extra, select Wild Shape (2024).
- Confirm Filter Using Wild Shape (2024) Rules is ticked.
- Scroll through the list of the valid choices.
- Click Add for the one you choose.
- Repeat Scroll and Add 3 more times as you are allowed 4 forms.
- Close Manage Wildshape.
Your Extras screen should now look just like the attached and should show the 4 you selected instead of the 4 I did. Clicking on any one of the beasts will pull up the stats of the beast and show you what attacks it has.
The page for the Wildshape features (your other request), can be accessed by:
- view the Druid character (app is fine for this one).
- Click Features and Traits.
- Click Wildshape (the level 2 feature)
- An expanded blurb on Wildshape should appear showing you all of Wildshape features.
That should be all that is necessary to see what you are missing.
got it thank you
So I ran my first session from the DDB VTT last night and the players loved it. Thank you to everyone whose been helping me come up to speed with the VTT. It is much appreciated! I noticed that, during game play, I needed a generic map for a beach along the ocean and a generic map for a mountain pass. According to my Master Tier subscription, I can just pop those into the VTT and have access to a bunch of generic maps to use. Where do I go to load those into VTT?
Glad you had a good first experience! You can go to the map browser, and there should be a section to upload your own map. We offer some maps, but you can find free or paid maps across the internet, or you can even use any image. I once used the Facebook profile picture of one of my player's...
I also accidentally once uploaded a grocery receipt.
A very thrilling map.
Sorry, forgot to attach above as indicated in message...
I am trying to share a character sheet with Chatgpt but it is not viewable. I have it set to Public, and I am using the sharable link. What else am I supposed to have to do to make this viewable?
If you follow the link generated by DDB for your sheet, can you view it?
If you can, this is a ChatGPT issue and not a DDB issue, and thus would not be dealt with here.
Note that you cannot just grab the URL from the Browser URL bar without generating as ChatGPT won't have credentials and should not be fed your U/P so should not be able to access your DDB without a shareable link.
is dnd beyond down right now?
Not for me in 🇨🇦 . I am able to load the main page and access my character.
That might be a regional thing and not a site outage issue, but I couldn’t say for sure. It’s loading fine for me as well.
we're on different networks as well so im not sure if it's a clientside issue
i see
is there a way to contact tech support here or do i have to do that through their email?
You would have to put in a support ticket. But idk if you can get to that link if you are having trouble with dndbeyond

Just wanted to say we've had a team investigating this for the last hour or so. It looks like it's working again. We're still trying to figure out what happened and why it was localized to Hong Kong.
yep, it's fixed!
just checked
thanks loads!
it hadnt been working at least since 23:45 HK time, if that helps
I have an odd dice rolling issue, on my attrib modifiers, the roll add 1, so instead of a +2 it rolls with a +3. It is only for attrib roles. Saves, attacks, etc all have the correct modifier
Any chance you have a magic item that adds +1 to ability checks? I sould suggest a Stone of Good Luck, but that should be adding to saves as well.
Seeing as how you have the Bard role. Im going to assume this character is a Bard as well in which case it could be the Jack of all Trades feature which adds half of your proficiency modifier to all skill checks that you dont have proficiency in
it is only on attribute rolls, not on save or skill check, attack etc
has started since I leveled up from 3-4
And its just on things like Dexterity checks?
Would you be willing to share a link to the character sheet?
on all 6 attrib check and only those. Have looked at all the options etc, no items attached. just really odd
Hello. On the map, when creating a combat encounter, even with Hide legacy monsters and Hide monsters not in the DM Content Library enabled, greyed-out and legacy monsters still appear in the list. Also, if I want to use only 2024 monsters, do I have to manually enable all the new sourcebooks every time?
Are you wanting to send a link to your character sheet to me in DMs?
Can you share a link to the character sheet? Make sure to set the character to public. If I can see the sheet, I should be able to manually calculate and look through to see what might be causing it.
-# heh, same thought. 🙂
So to confirm when you roll on the website for a Charisma check roll it would give you something like 10+5, even though your modifier is +4
correct
I dont see anything that would be causing that so it may be a bug.
You might have to reach out to custom support so they can take a look at it

thanks!!
Can someone help me with the scalevalue snippet for Bardic Inspiration Dice? im trying to homebrew something, and im not quite sure how to make the scalevalue work for the dice size
To double check - this is in Maps, not the website encounter builder, right? I've heard a few reports of this, but I haven't been able to replicate it myself... Can you send me your ddb username?
Nah it’s cool I figured out a system that works enough (Fog of War, reveals, and combat using PC, and token movement and editing using mobile)
interesting!
Yeah it’s a little broke but not enough to warrant going back and forth between reps to fix it
If I wasn’t able to view or interact with tokens on both devices, it’d be a different story
remind me, you aren't able to interact with tokens on your PC or on your mobile?
Hey all, quick question. Is there any way to have a homebrew subclass (like a homebrew hexblade) add its always prepared spells to your prepared spells? Like what a PHB subclass does?
Yeah
PC
how do I do that?
What all do you have so far? and what isnt working?
One of my players would like to use this subclass: https://www.dndbeyond.com/subclasses/2515307-master-of-hex-blade-hexblade-2025-remake and Im trying to see how I get all the features to function the way they would if it was a PHB subclass
I haven’t made a homebrew subclass on DDB that came with always-prepared spells in a long time, but what I always did when I couldn’t remember off the top of my head was make a copy of a preexisting subclass that did, copy the command, and replace the spell entries with the desired spells.
When you make the class you should see something like "Additional Specific Spells" Just add the spells you want to be consides warlock spells for that subcalss there
So I would have to remake the entire subclass that I linked above and do that to the spells and all the other features? Can you add stuff like maneuvers and things?
If you have the 2014 hexblade you can make a homebrew copy of that to see how it was made. That person should have never published that since they dont own the copyright.
Yes. Or if you own the 2014 hexblade class just play a 2014 warlock
I do own it, honestly he wanted to play the 2024 version of hexblade but I didnt realize it hasnt been officially released yet
bigger problem is 2014 warlock. but ill see
Your best option would be to make a homebrew copy of the 2014 hexblade so you can remake it for 2024. (If you dont what your player to use the 2014 warlock) And remember you dont have to publish your homebrew for it to be shared with your players in the campaign
to be honest, i dont really have anything. Ive just been guessing different versions of the syntax and its not working
Give this form post a look. https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/25930-using-snippet-codes-in-your-homebrew
What is a Snippet?
Have you spotted on the character sheet that it tells you what each feature of your class/race does? Those are snippets.
When creatin...
It has the syntax on it
Might be a while. They have to figure out what to sub in for Hexblade now that some Hexblade features are just built in to other things for 2024.
But if you're copying and using the implementations from 2014:
- Expanded Spell List: Can probably get from any Warlock subclass
- Hexblade's Curse: Might be harder to implement as a package, but a magic item(s) or feat(s) could probably do it. The 19 or 20 crit can probably be stolen from Champion's L3 feature.
- Hex Warrior: If you cannot find a feature, maybe a custom action? Or a Custom spell?
- Accused Specter: This is mostly text and adding a "Specter" as an extra on your Extras tab.
- Armor of Hexes: Probably just text. Beyond won't know when you were hit anyway so other than hitting a button when you're hit to specifically deal witht his effect, it doesn't make sense. And obviously, if you did this for everything that can trigger on hit, you'd be clicking on a lot of things, so not very practical. So, yeah, just text.
- Master of Hexes: This is really just text blocks to code since none of this should probably be automated.
And you also dont have any level scale options set in your homebrew
oh thats how that works? I just want it to display the dice like the official one does, is the only way to setup my own level scale to the subclass?
Yes even if all it does at the level is change the snippet code.
Even the official subclasses like the Monks Warrior of Mercy, Hand of Harm feature uses level scaling
-# You can always make a copy of that to get an idea of how it works
Anyone know why I can confirm my age? It won’t let me press the button
I am not sure why it wouldn't be working, but just to confirm, it was just a typo and you meant to say that you cannot confirm your age? If not, I'm confused as to the issue here.
Have you tried on another device? Also, have you tried a web browser, whether on a computer or on your phone? There are any number of DDB things that just don't function on the app.
However, I think the system might be telling you that you already provided the information. This is what my system showed only after I entered the information requested. Why it's still prompting you is interesting. i would try a browser. However, it is more than possible that DDB will potentially continue to nag us even after we have done it.
How do I add advantage on saving throws against the charmed condition? I can't quite get it to work
Roll the dice twice and use the higher roll? But I think long-pressing the roll button should open it up where you can pick from Advantage, Flat, and Disadvantage rolls.
Or right-click/option+click the roll button
Please note the Beyond20 extension may interfere with this functionality
In Homebrew, it is:
- Advantage > Saving Throws
- Description: "against the Charmed condition" (or something like that)
Oh didn't think this might be a homebrew setup question lol
Apologies!
I'm not actually sure, just wanted to cover all the bases haha.
does anyone know why my players character is stuck on 22 max hp? hp is set to fixed, but doesnt change regardless of what level the player is
level 1 = 22hp for a warlock, same at level 10
nevermind im dumb
didnt see the player accidentally entered override hp
It could be that I already entered mine but I have no recollection of doing so. I’ve also tried on my pc and it dosent work so I’m hoping I already did it
Hey, so I copied and edited a Homebrew 2024 Zealot Path of the Barbarian so that I could get the resistance on Rage thing. All I did was change the resistances, and removed the special action and the flying, and now it doesn't work with Rage
So, how am I supposed to have something activate through rage if the only way I can do that is copying a subclass that has that, but it looses that prerequisit as soon as I change that feature in any way?
Did you somehow delete the "pick an option" feature of the subclass that actives rage?
I have no clue
I assume I must have, if there really is a way to just add that as a class prerequisite, but I have no clue how to do that myself
So, is that all I can? Do I have to copy another subclass? Is there NO WAY to add what I want to add to this subclass without creating another homebrew that I can never actually get rid of from my account?
I think you could add it back yourself, but if you deleted part of the thing that makes it work you might not know how to do it.
This is not a formatting that I have memorized offhand, but it would be done via the Options section which I think has to be told which feature it should be granted by on the main class. Spam might know it offhand.
Well, be frustrated at it if you must, but maybe don't be frustrated at the people volunteering to help you.
I feel like I'm being rather clear with what I am trying to do. My frustration is from the fact that I can't understand how this homebrew system works. And your response was essentially "Just add it back", when I said I don't know how. Also, I already apologized
Well, you're not going to like what I have to suggest because you've already preemptively complained about it, but you should probably copy an existing subclass to use as reference.
your screenshot in the original post says that your age verification is complete, you should be good to go
Oh ok nice! Thank you!
Yes, the banners get sent out to all users irrespective of their individually completed status. It's like how you get banner notifications about sales for books you might already own, etc.
Alright. Thanks for your help. Would you be willing to ping Spam for me? There's like 3 spams on here and I don't want to waste someone else's time by pining the wrong one
Spam is a moderator and expert at this stuff, and generally we're not supposed to ping moderators unless the server is on fire. He'll see it when he's available!
Spam will see this, don't worry
Well I'm glad I didn't ping him, in that case
It's worth noting that some things are not accessible to us as end users. Essentially, certain features are only able to be found or utilized by someone with admin access. One of the places you can find those things is in the Barbarian's Rage, so you may just not be able to do what you want with this particular homebrew.
Just figured I'd give you the heads-up as I haven't seen anyone else mention it yet.
You can do a lot with it, but since it relies on a base-class feature it might not be possible.
Well, that seems to make sense since I've been trying to do this for about 3 days now... Would have been nice someone told me back them, but at least I know now I suppose
You could theoretically make a separate activated feature that is meant to apply when Rage does but activated separately, but might not be able to edit Rage's benefits directly.
Huh, I never considered that. How exactly would I go about doing that? Would it just be something like two options for on feature? Like "Active" and "Inactive"?
I'm only aware of this specific circumstance around Rage because I made my own variation on Wildheart the other day and encountered the inability to make "Activate Rage" a prereq.
Hold on, let me find the link.
It could answer a lot of questions. There's a FAQ underneath the Subclasses section about making an activated effect.
Essentially, you make 2 features at the same level with the same name. One is hidden in the sheet and is just the text, one is hidden in the builder and has an option to "Activate <feature>" that has the actual mechanics of the thing.
Yeah I reading that now
Yes, this is how you would do it. Two Options, and one option that is called "Active" or whatever would have your Resistance.
You know what? Zealot Barbarian had something similar, but I just edited one of the named things to be what I wanted and that may have buggared it up
It's really easy to do it as a separate set of options if you're amenable to it. The part about attaching it to the normal Rage activateable is what I am unsure about.
Zealot probably has some backend stuff going on that makes it auto-apply during Rage, and that's likely unchangeable.
Question: Is it possible when making a magic item on beyond to have it override the ability score a skill uses?
I doubt it.
A question to ask yourself when doing Homebrew is this: does an official thing do what you want in any way? If so, it's probably available. If not, it's not very likely. Exceptions of course apply, but that's a good rule of thumb.
Fair enough. thank you very much for the help
Yeah, it seems that even editing any of those abilities removes that from the abilities too
Thanks again to RisingDuck and CrimsonEdge for their help with my Homebrew Barbarian issue, I'm almost done with the subclass now that I can actually do things with it
The devs definitely do it by selecting Rage as a prerequisite.
But that might be something only they can do. :/
Yeah, I had been trying to find that Rage prerequisite for about 3 days before now
But this is only one extra step, so it isn't a big deal
You could potentially add your own Rage feature, to override the existing one.
And then you’d be able to tie them together.
But I’m not sure if that will cause any side effects.
I have no clue how I'd do that, but just having an option that applies it (Which is what I am doing now) is just as good
I.E. if there’s anything else that depends on the official Rage being active.
And I could apply future rage only things to the first Actibate rage button I made instead of making a new one
js wondering if someone can explain me rq in dms how to fight i js buy the starter pack and kinda hard how to attack with the character i choose dont really know how to start
is it possible to copy a homebrew subclass to modify?
If I am to use 4 die at once it'd use up all the slots right?
Yes. You can use up to 4, which means you can divide them up as you see fit.
It sounds kinda bad then 💔
You will have 1 more dice with each level up
Also what's the difference between a magic action and a regular one
It's for spells that take up an action or certain magic items.
Does the dice change?
Or does it remain a d6 throughout the entire progression
Alright thanks
You should read the feature, it answers your question.
why does it say i need to enter my birthdate before jan 27th
This channel is for support with DNDB itself. If you have further questions about how features work, you should either use #dnd-rules or #dnd-newcomers
Because WOTC has partnered with a group for age verification so that it can continue to operate in jurisdictions that require such things. You can find information about it in your Account page.
In homebrew, would there be a way to have a class feat with a number of charges or uses per day, but only start with like, 2 instead of all of them?
And also have those charges be linked to future class features? Somehow?
Just asking for clarity cus when I searched up how it works online the post said the die also changes every couple levels
Alright my bad. Thanks for the help though
Can you give an example
Is there somewhere that I can check what to type in the fixed value field of a homebrew item/spell/feature? I see the suggestions, but how can I add that the fixed damage value should be from the characters proficiency? IE the fixed value that gets added is = to proficiency?
thanks, but that still doesnt seem to list the terminology that I need to enter to make it add +proficiency as damage
is there any skill/feature that adds proficiency as damage to an attack roll or spell (aside from the normal proficiency you get from proficiency with a weapon)
Is there a way to add more invocations to a warlock? Like add homebrewed invocations?
You can copy your own, yeah (but only your own).
yea that part I knew, was trying to copy someone elses for private use
After you add the first Limited Use, just add another at whatever level(s) the calculation changes.
Not really. You can state in the text that it uses the same counter, but the player would have to go back to that first feature to mark it as used.
Fixed Value only supports actual numbers, but you could try Additional Bonus Types.
I have the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount purchased on my account. Why can't I see the dunamancy spells or wizard subclasses as options for my character?
The subclasses from that book are only available on the 2014 Wizard class (
, not
).
That's dumb.
Unfortunately, DDB and WotC don't own the rights to port it to 2024 themselves. They need the original authour's permission. And that hasn't been given or the process has not been done, so some things remain locked to 2014.
(I.E. it’s up to Critical Role.)
In the meantime, though, you could make a homebrew copy of the 2014 subclass to see how it was set up, and then just rebuild it as a 2024 subclass instead.
Shouldn’t take more than five minutes.
You wouldn’t need to change the spells at all.
You can just add them through the subclass.
My character is currently a part of a campaign on dndbeyond itself. At the end of the campaign, if I were to click "leave" from the campaign page, or "leave campaign" from my character list, either of those wouldn't actually delete my character right? The logical answer is "no" but I wanted to make sure first
Does not delete, correct.
Note though that any books shared with you through the campaign would go away thus affecting any rebuilds or level ups but whatever already exists on the character stays, even if it may not be possible to add more later.
Are there any solo adventures you can purchase on DDB?
Depends what you mean by solo. If you mean just you, no DM? No. If you mean one DM and one player, then a few of the adventures in Dragon Delves (not all) are designed to work with one player.
Thanks
Got it. So if I'm understanding correctly: Even after I leave the campaign, my character can still level up normally as a Fire Genasi Draconic Sorcerer?
I'm making my first D&D Beyond Bladesinging Wizard using the latest rules. Is there any way to toggle bladesinging on via my character sheet and it automatically adjust stats like AC and hit/damage using intelligence modifier over strength etc? Am I missing something? Or do I just have to manually override each time? Sorry if it's an obvious option!
Some things may work on level up but you may find some things do not appear that you would have been able to choose if you do not own the PH (for Draconic Sorcerer) and Monsters of the Multiverse (for Fire Genasi). The alternative is to join another campaign that has and can share those books if you do not personally own them.
Dragonic Sorcerer is free for everyone
Right, so drop PH since it is in free rules. Depending on how high you have already reached, everything from species may already be attained which might mean you are good to go on leveling then.
Why are 1st and 2nd level ice knife showing the same damage points? Should level 2 be 1d16?
There’s no such thing as a d16.
I created this character in 2020. Basic rules and elemental evil players companion. I don’t own any books
I was just confused since it says the damage increases per level
But it’s the cold damage that increases at higher spell levels, not the piercing damage.
The cold damage would go from 2d6 at level 1 to 3d6 at level 2.
But the 1d10 piercing damage remains the same.
Oh I see, thanks
No books were shared with me either
Yeah, if you go to Features & Traits and click on Bladesong, there should be a dropdown there in the sidebar to activate it.
Spamandtuna, could you maybe add your insight? If I leave this campaign, will my character sheet still work as it did before I joined the campaign? Just EE and basic rules are used for my character. No books were shared with me
Everything will still work if you can remake the character outside of a campaign
If you didn’t use any shared content, then there’s nothing to worry about.
Ok thank you both. I appreciate it!
That's brilliant thank you - would this work with something like Mage Armor too? I can't see a straightforward toggle to apply Mage Armor to self without overriding AC. So The bladesong buffs affect everything else but not the AC as that is manually overwritten. Ideally there's a toggle to apply Mage Armor to self in the character sheet but I can't see that anywhere!
Most temporary affects, like Mage Armor, arent programed in right now so you would have to override your ac for now
Or make a magic item that you equip or unequip as the situation calls for
Add mage armour as magic bonus and it calculates
Keep in mind you have to remove any armour/shield you have equipped to enable the bladesong bonus
I have another question, sorry. As you can see, the 2d6 and 3d6 do not appear besides their respective spells like the 1d10 piercing damage does. This is intentional right?
DNDB only shows one of the damage rolls for a spell or other action right now. If a spell has multiple damage rolls, the recommendation is to add a Custom Action to roll the second part of it. I hope that one day they figure out adding 2+ different dice sizes / dice rolls ro a single spell or action, but for now this is how it is.
Ok, so what you're saying is it's currently displaying as intended?
It's certainly not a bug and is displaying as designed, but it could be improved substantially as has been suggested in #ddb-feedback many times over the years. I am hopeful that with the big overhaul @vernal fractal has been talking about recently, the ability to roll multiple dice types or show multiple dice rolls per spell/action will become possible in the future.
Understood. Thank you very much for the info
There are third-party web browser extensions (ie. beyond20) that add additional dice rolling capabilities to the website which might be useful to you. That said, they are not officially supported by DNDBeyond, and so we cannot provide support for them here (and sometimes they break things on their own).
Hello so I am a DM trying to look at my Player's sheets to see their health pools and stuff, but whenever I try to view one of my player's sheets it won't let me like at all.
Yeah, definitely hoping for Beyond to rise some to be able to parse the page like Beyond20 does if it cannot be natively supported. Even if it isn't linked to the sheet functionality, just being able to roll is a good chunk of what is needed and would be quite a big step forward.
Can you be more specific?
What happens when you try?
Did you create the DDB campaign or did one of the players? DDB assumed the creator is the DM when it comes to accessing player sheets.
When I click view character sheet it just brings me back to the campaign page, every other PC's sheet works fine
I did
So, is it a specific person sheet or all the sheets in the campaign?
A specific person's sheet
I own the 2014 PHB, but for some reason it's not showing as owned. Is this a known issue?
Have the player check this on the home Tab of their character. It should be set to campaign or public.
I did, it still did not work
Hrm. Stumped then. That setting on the character should allow you to view it from the campaign assuming the character is in that campaign.
Yeah I know
-# I am quietly hoping Spamandtuna has more ideas... 🙂
yes I can. I find it odd though that it shows basic rules in character creator and not the PHB
maybe it's all cosmetic :/
There's a graphical glitch happening for some of us, usually related to books that were obtained through a bundle. The devs are looking into it.
Have you checked in the Home tab of the character in question that you have ticked 2014 Core Rules? If this was not ticked, it is very possible to only be seeing basic rules.
Another common issue that can cause just basic rules to appear is if you accidentally picked a 2024 class instead of a 2014 class when you were selecting class.
This is working as intended. The 2014 classes themselves are associated with the Basic Rules, not the PHB.
You should see the PHB options for the subclasses if you actually select one of the classes.
This is a cosmetic bug only in My Library. You can read the official post about it here: #dnd-announcements message
Hello, i would like to know whether purchasing the Eberron: Forge of the Artificer – Ultimate Bundle (digital version) will grant access to creating an Artificer character using the D&D 2024 rules through the “Create a New Character” feature.
More specifically, will the Artificer class from this bundle be fully available and selectable when building a new character under the D&D 2024 system?
You'll get a digital code emailed to you that you have to redeem in DNDB, but once you do that then it will be available for you.
It should but you may have to sync your entailments right after you redeem the code
To be clear, the Ultimate Bundle is Physical+Digital. You can also just buy the Digital edition directly if that's all you want and it'll just become available to your account immediately after you sync entitlements (as Puzzled noted).
Ty
Thanks for the assist
Will the gemstone dice come back ever?
I don't think anyone here can possibly know. Sorry.
Hey I’m trying out mechanics of different characters and see what I like to play.
However, for every character I only see 1 subclass at most. I have everything selected without Homebrew things.
Why can’t I see the other subclasses?
Because only the 1 subclass per class comes for free in the Basic Rules. The rest must either be purchased digitally in the Marketplace or must be shared with you via a campaign with Content Sharing enabled with someone else who has them purchased digitally.
Hey I have a question about my character sheet I’m at level 8 but what if I’m at level 1 and how wil leveling up unlock my characters abilities
This is somewhat of a #learn-to-play question, but since is the Beyond support group ..
In DDB, you can create this same 8th level character using the free Basic rules. Once created, you can either modify it or make a copy and just change the level to 1 on the Class page of the character creator. You can then further adjust the level up one at a time and pick the options one level at a time to see what your character would look like at a given level. The main reason to copy is you can always refer to the original or abort the process and still have the 8th level version fully entered.
Oh got it thank you so if I level up I just change the level on the website
Yep. That's it. It automatically does things like add Hit Points and the like. One of the big things it cannot predict is what magic items you will find while adventuring which can alter things but there is no way to tell that other than to play it out and see what happens.
Hey is dndbeyond planning on properly implementing the traits system from the grimhollow books?
But aren’t all the sub classes in the base players handbook and the settings specify players handbook is automatically enabled?
The contend in the SRD and element evil player companion is free for everyone
There’s a difference between the Basic Rules and the Player’s Handbook.
The Basic Rules contains portions of the PHB, DMG, and MM — enough to play a game of D&D.
But each of those three books also has content that is not in the Basic Rules.
The full PHB includes many additional character options that aren’t in the Basic Rules.
👋
Hey there! Did you need help with D&D Beyond?
so i am having an issue were no matter what class or subclass i pick it doesnt complete on my character sheet, for example i just made a sheet for a diviner wizard but at the top right by the picture of my character it just says i'm a wizard with the level i slected,
What did you expect it to say?
isn't it suppose to say your subclass?
it's not even saying i have spells or anything
this is what is shows
No, that won’t show your subclass.
And it definitely won’t show any spells there.
Can you share a screenshot of your paladin?
shouldn't be show as elf, wizard 17 diviner?
nvm
apparently it's a google chrome v firefox difference
On your My Characters page, it will show the subclass. When you load your character, however, it doesn't on FireFox.
As I understand it, it has been this way since at least 2020.
Oh, that's strange.
Hey is there any way someone could assist me with getting the Big Game Hunter subclass for Gunslinger from Mage Hand Press into dndbeyond's homebrew maker? I'm sorry I really struggle with the dndbeyond homebrewer but would like the convenience of using Dndbeyond.
#homebrew might be better for the initial steps of doing this work, but if you run into specific-to-DNDBeyond issues along the way we can help navigate those individual problems as they come up, yes.
If you have a subscription, you could also search the Homebrew. Someone may have already entered it. (I haven't checked, but it's worth a look. I'm surprised sometimes how much stuff has actually been already done by someone.)
Since it's a third-party subclass attached to a third-party class, I don't think that homebrew could be published.
I messaged there and someone there told me to message here lol
The class is on dndbeyond, if that helps
I have searched and it was not available
The gunslinger class is on ddb but the big game hunter subclass isn't.
If you own the gunslinger class I would suggest making a homebrew copy of one of that classes subclass so you can start by changing what you need
So, the basic probalem is that it is unlikely that anyone will fully go through the entire process unless they need it for themselves. What you're more likely to get here is help with specific steps, like, How would I code this modifier, or the like.
This channel is ideally intended for getting help with specific issues that you encounter while inputting it yourself. It's not intended to fully walk you through and hold your hand through the entire homebrewing process. If someone were really motivated they'd certainly be welcomed to do that, but it's a big ask. Yes, basically exactly as Cal says.
-# With a few minor exceptions, we're all basically just other users of the software and aren't getting paid for this so our time is often limited.
Understood. Thanks
There’s an article here that walks through a basic example:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/845-new-players-guide-how-to-homebrew-on-d-d-beyond
Or as noted above, you can select an existing Ginslinger subclass as a template when you create your homebrew. That will give you an exact copy so you can peek inside and see how it was set up.
Broadly speaking, though, I’d recommend starting by adding the class feature at the correct levels, each with a snippet (the abbreviated rules text shown directly on the sheet) and description (the full rules text).
Then from there you can start to identify what else you want to add, like spells or attacks or whatnot.
But if you get stuck at any point along the way, folks here are happy to help.
When I bought the extended rules in Beyond for the 2014 Extended rules are they 20014/2024 compatible?
I'm not sure what you mean by "2014 Extended Rules," but if you mean books like TCoE or MotM, those are 2014 books that can be used with 2024 if they haven't been superseded by 2024 material (ie. some subclasses, some monsters). Anything that has been reprinted would need to be used from the reprinted book to be used in 2024. An example from TCoE would be the Circle of Stars Druid which has been reprinted in the PHB24. You'd need the PHB24 to use that in 2024.
TCOE’s Circle of Spores, however, was not updated in the 2024 PHB.
So that one can be used as-is.
anyone else having issues accessing campaigns? I tried clearing my browsing data/cookies and now I cant login w/o getting a 403 forbidden error
never mind it was an issue with my vpn
Is it possible to move homebrew between accounts? I'd like to create a monster then give it to a player to maintain.
You know how some magic items recharge like 1d6 or something per dawn or whatever? Can I homebrew that with a class feature, but instead of a die roll its a fixed amount?
I believe that player could have it in their Extras tab of their character, but I don't think there's a way to transfer the Homebrew from one user to another without admin intervention
I can't think of any way to do this other than to send them the text so they can implement it in homebrew themselves.
Sure, but this isn't automated for magic items, and wouldn't be automated with a class feature either. At that point it's just text on a feature, which can be anything.
Oh, I see
Well, could I have a class feature that uses charges of another class feature? Automatically, that is
Nope. The expectation is that the player would just click the other charge themselves much like the alternative uses for features like Channel Divinity, Bardic Inspiration, etc.
Darn
Oh well, I kind of assumed as much when I was making my Barbarian subclass a few days ago and couldn't have "Activate Rage" as a prerequisite...
It is a neat feature request to have a button on those features which can expend other resources. Maybe it's something the overhaul that's been spoken about could enable, but it doesn't work that way right now.
Well, I live in hope
On the DDB character sheet, under Extras / Manage Extras / Add an Extra, you can choose Sidekick, and then check a box, "Filter Using Sidekick Rules". When I do that, nothing shows up.
What is that filter referring to? I don't mean the rules, I know about the sidekick rules in Tasha's, but what would cause something to show up when "Filter Using Sidekick Rules" is selected? What makes an entity a "sidekick" such that it would show up there?
Sidekicks were a thing in one of the earlier books that kind of fell flat. Loosely, the idea seemed to be to have some NPCs that were weaker than PCs that could supplement the party when the number of players got low, y'know, like 1 players & 1 DM, 2 players & 1 DM, and the like. Helped to flesh out the party. PCs were always meant to remain the protagonists and the "stars of the show".
Unfortunately, I do not have an insight though as to why DDB would build a filter with no results other than to guess, you probably need a book you do not own?!
Thanks. No, I own Tasha's, which I believe is what you're referring to. I understand what you're saying about the sidekicks rules, and while I appreciate the insight, I'm not asking about the rules themselves, I'm asking about the DDB character sheet implementation, that checkbox specifically. What would cause something to show up there?
Things show up for me, though they are very old by 5e's standards:
It's pretty likely that you don't have the books with content shared with you or owned. Also, you need 2014 rules enabled for the character.
How would I go about adding charges to a class feature? I know I can do it with spells, but I can't see to figure out how to do it anyway else
After you save an action the first time, you can then go back to it and at the bottom there is a new Limited Uses field.
That Sidekicks option is for the DOIP rules, not the TCOE rules.
The Action needs a Reset Type as well before that option will appear.
Great, good to know
Hi, guys. I'm trying to enable content sharing in my new campaign, but the usual button is nowhere to be found. Where an I enable it now?
Are you the master subscriber? If you are not, they have to initiate a share for everyone else to share.
-# it doesn't have to be their campaign, but they have to turn share on.
Also you can only turn it on for a max of 5 campaigns at one time.
If you've turned it on for that number already then the button won't appear.
Does anyone know if the site is down I keep getting 504 gateway timeout
^Are they doing site maintenance?
