Two people who look at eachother and think “i wish i could do that. I wish i could be that strong” and neither of them means their abilities, but their willpower and mentality
My tiefling to my friends tiefling 😔
This time last week I had 3 exandrian campaigns running and now I'm down to 1. Wednesday and Saturday are now curse of strahd and tomb of anhilliation
Not to mention, they contrast eachother
Batman is batman.
Clark kent is clark kent
Iykyk
How far along are you in them?
Good lord-
This is my first champaign its impressive how many people u guys can find
Session one of each one is the next one
It's his job, he gets paid to DM games
Ohhh
I'm running 7 campaigns currently
Current goal is to get as good as Urizt
Always good to see newbies
What’s your first campaign, prewritten or homebrew (By the way, I like the EzKayn in your PFP)?
I went to a convention and left as fast as I could in full cosplay so I could make it in time for dnd I live
Lmao
Pretty nice commitment
They saw me only once that day and it was to save an npc lmao then my character left again
When u think we'll see more eldritch invocations? many DMs simply allow most of the old ones to be used in 2024 as well, but DDB doesnt support selecting them and i kinda want a higher selection
YESS IT IS EZKAYN!! I drew it! :D!!
And its a homebrew our dm has been doing it for a while hes the best person ever 🥹
Oh damn you’re a good artist
What’s the homebrew continent/world like?
Im not sure auauah Idk how to explain it either English isnt my first language but its pretty typical if that makes sense-
So like European high fantasy? Not Asian or South American or African fantasy?
Why did I only name A countries?
Ohh yeah it seems very European so far lmao
They keep bullying my kingdom💔 (it deserves it but hey cmon)
Got it
I homebrewed a North American high fantasy game with the exception of exactly One European kingdom because I thought it would be easy
It has
Fantasy New York (Big advanced city)
Fantasy Louisiana (Swamps)
Fantasy Colorado + Mississippi (Mountains plus hyper religious)
Fantasy Las Vegas (Desert plus gambling)
Fantasy Florida (Beachside town)
Ohhh thats cool!!
There’s also an underground city
A secret city in space
And a secret town underwater
We have a place like Russia, Italy.... stuff like that we havent gone to most places yet we are only lvl 5 after all 🥲
I only have one continent actually fleshed out, Fantasy USA
That does sound pretty cool! Im sure ill get to see stuff like that eventually rusjsisiks
Want to be friends? You seem nice
Of course!
With spiritual weapon does it require a action to use it attack?
bonus
sigh making characters is exhausting
It can certainly get tough at times, what troubles are you having?
depends, i like to make them
Moving information to character sheets, lol
Like I got so used to Basic taking like 15 minutes, but just gatherung everything from my classes (there are 4 characters), backgrounds, feats and spells is just tiring
Oof. Can your players not give you a hand? Kind of spread out the work?
Nah it's just solo play to try to get through all the modules I bought over the years and never got a chance to run or play since my group kind of split years ago. Want to use the 5e stuff one last time, you know
Heat Metal is the most comically terrifying spell I've ever seen
I find it's also either stupid good or utterly useless
Fighter's worst nightmare
If I want a necromancer who uses a rapier what is the best sub class or multi class for that?
how often are they using their rapier?
Tbh probably not that often I just want it for aesthetics
Possibly using it as a focus
just take a level dip into fighter then, could even take a 2 level dip for the infinitely helpful action surge.
I forget the specifics on paladin/war cleric's focus rules but those might also be helpful
ranger or rogue could also work depending on the theme
never touched hexblade outside of bg3, so IDK the specific rulings, but that might work
I guess I should've specified I was under the assumption of necro wiz or spore druid
However, Cert here is definitely right with death domain cleric
IDK oathbreaker outside of BG3 so I won't speak on that
in what context?
They're both great support, but go Cleric if you want to minor in Damage, Bard if you want to also double major in Control.
cleric
Cleric, then. Bard is great at everything but damage.
alr i just lost a bet
Bards are still stupid good at support. Primarily making sure the DM can't play the bloody game
now they goin to shave all ma cow's hair the next session to make a coat for the Ogrillion
Question for y'all
(well if they find out abt dis)
What level of sorcerer is Dr. Strange? (MCU) as of his last movie
hold on
I played a full Support Lore Bard, his only damage was Vicious Mockery, but he was great!
He's not a D&D character and doesn't translate.
Dr. Strange would be more of an illusion wizard tho
sorcerer specifically? and not wizard?
I admit IDK anything about him, but I thought he was more studious rather than being born with power
He's called the Sorcerer Supreme, but they don't use the definition of "sorcerer" that D&D does so it doesn't translate.
Less cooler wizard
I mean definitely a level 20 spell caster, I'm more questioning which one
Mages>>>>Warlocks, Wizards and Sorcerers
oh, also which Dr. Strange? because I'm pretty sure the common place visual media one is infinitely weaker than the comic book version of him, because that's just how comic books tend to work
Well...
Not if you go with CME + Scorching ray from lore Bard's magical secrets
The MCU version, at the end of his last movie
figured
Not great doesn't mean bad.
But yeah, usually, clerics have more variety and diversity in builds
- In the first tier (levels 1-4)... The threats they face are relatively minor, usually posing a danger to local farmsteads or villages.
- In the second tier (levels 5-10)... These characters have become important, facing dangers that threaten cities and kingdoms.
- In the third tier (levels 11-16)...These mighty adventurers often confront threats to whole regions and continents.
- At the fourth tier (levels 17-20)... The fate of the world or even the fundamental order of the multiverse might hang in the balance during their adventures.
A general guideline from PHB Re: Dr. Strange
there's also the dubious epic levels
granted at that point that's more looking like divinity
Superheroes tend to fall under tier 3-4 I presume
Now that i think abt it. What level is Fizban The Fabulous?
Has none, he is a god in disguise.
Or someone powerfull like Tasha or Elminster
Paladine (also known as Bahamut) likes to disguise himself as a wizard who is Fizban.
Can't blame him, i would also like to disguise as Fizban
IIRC elminster is the reason I even mentioned epic levels.
if memory servers he has like 35 wizard levels, 10 cleric levels, and a few others
In a 5e sense Elminster and Tasha don't have class levels anymore.
Oh god
^
so he would be like level 50?
They become Legendary enough they are above player stats to become the high CR Monsters they are now.
something like that, taking from older edition crap (FTR I say 'crap' because that's just a general term I use, not saying "older editions bad" or anything)
Like Tasha is now a CR20 Archfey in 5e.
Older editions he was also just 18 wizard with 2 Rogue.
.... rogue?
Not all of D&D's editions work 1 to 1.
If we have Tasha's Hideous Laughter why can't we have Elminster's cheese blast or smth?
Like some of the "Epic level" monsters from 3.5e are just CR27 monsters now.
The real question is whether Volo is a Wizard or a Bard
someone's played too much bg3
okay I joke, but how much is that actually part of his character
(the man likes cheese, can he be more peak?)
Volo is a wizard.
It happend and doesn't alter the continuity of Faerûn's history. So it's canon.
Both in previous and in current editions Volo has been a wizard.
Elminster likes cheese
Actually oddly enough.
IG a better question would be was that a thing prior to bg3?
Volo was a level 5 Wizard in 2e but in 5e he is a level 1 Wizard
Oh lawrd he weak
Probably. Elminster also likes Dr Pepper canonically too.
I really don't want to know the answers to that one
Right a Wizard that gives off Bard vibes
The framework of "The Forgotten Realms" is that Elminster showed up to Ed Greenwood's house one day to rob him of food then told him about a world that used to connect to Earth but has now been forgotten
Probably maxed out his cha for some reason
Favourite absolutely overpowered subclass that you like not for OPness but for flavour? (UA allowed)
Ed Greenwood being the creator of the Forgotten Realms.
Wait, now that i also think abt it. Wasen't Elminster also a woman?
Huh? That's new to me.
I just remembered something like that
honestly IDK how much of it is charisma or just deception expertise (isn't most of his crap filled with.... well, crap)
i'm not quite sure
He lived as a woman for awhile in the novels, it was somethign Mystra did to test him.
Ah
if not, I plead bg3-ism and apologize
Mystra has some weird tests
I mean, live for awhile as someone else with different challenges does seem like it would make you a better person.
It definitely must have been something
Volo is consistently known for being a bad source on majority of info.
Now that you mention it, you're right.
so it is deception
She was named Elmara during that.
LMAO
IG this is more a ruling thing, but if someone is unintentionally spreading misinfo, is that deception?
Gawd i love the char
Unreliable narrator to the max.
He and Fizban The Fabulous are in ma top 5 of best characters of dnd
Ability checks are game mechanics that are abstractions of an uncertain outcome. So it’s futile to attempt to apply them to something that doesn’t already contain them, if that makes any sense
I'm a fan of that rascal, Jarlaxle.
I love that Volo is known so much for being untrust worthy a a source for half a century. Because that gives an excuse of why Volo's guide to monsters is retconned.
Exactly
How old is he anyway?
A few hundred
50-60?
Elminster trapped him in time for a few centuries
why
He was tired of babysitting him and needed a break
Also he wrote a book that killed thousands of people.
Volo's guide to Magic or something like that.
It was a very bad guide to magic.
The devestation and destruction was wild.
A lot of people got hit in the crossfire
how is Elminster your bloody mentor and you do stuff like dat
“Mentor” is pushing it
which common magic items do y’all like best?
More “guy assigned to him”
thats what the wiki says
Cloak of Billowing. Aura farming the Magic item
Do thou dare to challenge THY MIGHTY SCRIPTURES? (Aka the wiki)
okay if we’re talking silly stuff that one def wins
As someone who read the novels, yes.
Lmao
alr can't say nothin against that
He’s one of the conduit through which Mystra keeps the Weave afloat. So she made him her Chosen and granted him immortality to keep Bad Things™ from happening
I'm sorry, what?
We talkin the same Volo who got captured by goblins in bg3 right?
That's Mystra's conduit?
He survived, didn’t he?
There is a player at my table they doesn’t talk a whole lot. I am unsure if they are shy or just a quiet person.
How can I help them to talk more idk I just don’t want to feel like they are a spectator I want them to be involved
next time ima let him die there to see what happens
Curse them, With a curse that makes him speak every turn or his character dies
I am also a player btw
He doesn’t die on his own.
First have a private discussion and ask if this is an issue for them. Maybe they like it that way.
So talk to him like all turns
Oh, well then this isn't really your job? If you worry about it, bring that up to the DM, but again it might not actually be a problem.
You can give opportunities to the player, ask them if there’s anything you can do to help, or bring it up to the DM. But if there’s not a clear problem, you don’t have to get involved
I just feel bad 😢
I just hope that they don’t feel left out of planning or discussions or anything.
Do you know that they feel left out?
Some people are just quiet, you know?
Hello, friends
Hiiiii!👋
Nope. Like I said I don’t know if they are shy or just a quiet person either.
Idk I am just worrier. I want them to be enjoying their play time and not feel left out.
You can try interacting with their character in character and see if that helps, but otherwise it might not actually be a problem.
Act 3 ||he is tied to a dozen explosive barrels that are on fire.||
He can maybe survive.
made a new account for various reasons so i’m back in this server… yahoo
i should eventually try and find a game i can be a player in since im a bit tired of being the forever dm 💔
Idk who is you but Hiiiii
But here is the thing. Even if Volo dies it doesn’t matter much.
D&D has ressurection magic after all.
oh yea i’d just occasionally say hi here
Wait but, can we avoid spoilers please? Thank you!
i don’t use discord much tbh
I meaaaan
It does exists but like. Ain't ressurection Magic like very VERY hard to use?
It's generally expensive, is what it is.
He knows and is watched by Elminster. Do you think that’s an issue?
I got to check off a couple items on my dm list tonight
Mystra can cast every spell at will. It’s no big deal for her to cast True Resurrection if something happens.
oh yeah Elminster is like Gazillionarie or smth
Also it’s dirt cheap for adventures to get the Diamond for ressurection
I used counterspell on a healing word, not once, not twice, but all 3 times
After all (in 5e at least) at level 1 a party can get 500gp per session
Alright I’ll talk to the dm in private as they know the player more and see if it is just them as a person being shy or quiet and they don’t have an issue at all with being quiet.
It’s just something I have noticed and yea I guess don’t want them to feel left out or like they are spectating or a side character or something.
Plus Magic items.
Got to use a 9th level spell as a dm
Tho it was an upcasted Summon Dragon
And now my players have a derelict Wizard tower with constructs that like them so Bastion time.
How?? That’s crazy 🤪
you are a meanie
Idk I'm just patiently waiting for the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch to eventually appear in my current session.
(My DM said it would basically be a mythical item and would be the equivalent of 10 barrels of smokepowder combined.)
Well the thing is a party has 4-5 players in it. So that money is getting divided.
So 500 could be 100-125gp average
I haven’t earnt any money so far after my 2 sessions is that not normal?
I have 28gp
Party got their first very rare item
It’s campaign. So idk 🤷♂️
Party's about to go viral on dndtok in my world.
They are called the Core rule books for a reason after all.
is there a link on what is “official” and what isn’t?
In the D&D Beyond character creation?
Explorer's Guide to Wildemount is “official”?
But like idk if it’s just this campaign that is like different from a gold earning perspective
i mean i see that it’s official because it’s publishrd but wotc but apparently they publish third party stuff too
so i’m a bit confused
They don't really publish 3rd party stuff too much. They mainly just allow it to be advertised on ddb for I imagine a part of the profit.
Wildemount on the other hand is in a weird place
Its official, it's published by WotC, but it's from an initially third party setting which makes it sometimes confusing
my dm tried to have another guy start at level 5 while we are all at level 1 arguing it was just an escort NPC.
Was I right to be a bit upset?
seemed like favoritism to me
It depends on how involved he was? NPC's could also take part of the xp and treasure if they are involved in action
No? It isn’t?
i mean, if it’s just for 1 session i think it’s fine
Campaign just means having more than 1 adventure with a party. You know that right?
Like a season in a TV show or a line of Comic books.
No idk 🤷♂️
I thought a campaign was just like a longer version of a one shot module
Idk how this stuff is meant to work I am sorry 😔
Even one shot expect that much too.
it was for the entire campaign, they'd level up with us
Were they just going to be a guest player for one session? Because otherwise that IS a PC.
I know that one shots you get like a mission and then at the end of the mission you get like gold and sometimes an item or something but Idk this campaign has been sorta different to the 5-6 one shots that I do leading up to the campaign
Yeah a campaign is a series of adventures (usually) with an overarching story. Like a TV show, or a line of comics etc.
Maybe it was just how our party approached it but we are at a carnival and there hasn’t been any like gold earning stuff we have done in our 2 sessions so far
I had a lot of trouble with my new foundry combat stuff.
Gonna have to punish my Wednesday group for it.
i mean golds r usually random drops
Or quest rewards.
or treasures
Yeah Gold isn't just coins.
Every campaign is different.
Maybe I'll finally collect my 1st level one 5e PC for my PC graveyard
Usually with valuable items, gems, jewels, magic items, etc.
is this a module??? or homebrew? most modules are great at giving u treasures per encounter
A bunch of us have pixie dust and 2 people were able to get a invisibility cupcake is that what you mean by “gold”
It’s wild beyond the Witchlight
I am only 2 sessions in though
Our last session was postponed cause dm was sick
i feel like someone should just have detect magic concentrated ALWAYS and then also “investigate” every room
like literally “search” every room or explore something the dm points out
Yeah Wild Beyond the Witchlight is one of those modules that doesn't do much with dungeons, avoids combat, and actively makes money pointless.
How does that work with the ritual casting. So 10 minutes for the spell duration and then 10 minutes of you casting it on repeat
because alot of the modules are written in a way where it says “players can make a dc x perception to find y” in some random ass rooms
A more "Fun house" style adventure.
Interesting 🤔 good to know
lol yeah pretty much, or you can run around the dungeon after you clear it with detect magic concentrated
lol 😂 fair enough
for like a “sweep” before you leave
Fun fact it takes 10 minutes to search a room in both 2014 and 2024.
So basically you spend a lot of time with ritual casting Detect Magic and looking for items in a room.
i don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to just say “i want to run around the dungeon with detect magic” to see what we missed
Its mainly notable for things like encounter tables for staying too long in a dungeon, and durations for spells and magic items.
well, you don’t exactly need to search every room, you just go to each room with detect magic on, and you only search if you detect something
So you'd get like 3 rooms before common stuff wear off since a lot just say "an hour"
Especially since things can just negate Detect magic.
Like a thick enough box or a wall.
no, you don’t “search” you just run through all the rooms which you can probably do within a minute
Or that one spell that just hides magic.
especially if your dashing
1 minute per room for travel (also 2014 and 2024)
Also per hallway
how many modules have u actually run where magical items were protected?
i call bs, during initiative, you can dash between rooms in a round or two
Combat Rules do not equal Exploration rules.
some times you can cross multiple rooms in a single dash, don’t get me started on monks
Just like how they don't equal Social rules.
pretty inconsistebt
Like a negotiation isnt 6 seconds because "its the influence action!"
Which is a lot of D&D
i don’t think you can fully negotiate in combat
though each round is 6 seconds
and people negotiate in combat anyways because it’s cool
In fact the rules even note you get debuffs and even automatically miss things when moving too fast too.
yeah, but that’s if your searching, i was talking about detect magic
and just looking for a ping from it
it’s weird that traversing a room takes a minute when walking through it in initiative takes 6 seconds, like wtf
Combat does not equal Exploration.
sure? but you can just run through the rooms with detect magic on cant you?
Just like how Combat running rules does not match Chase rules which gives Exhaustion for using the Dash action.
i thought that was optional
You might need to have a reread of the rulebooks.
idek what you’re arguing with rnn
or what your point is
your saying you can’t cross a room in less than a minute, but players literally do so during initiative in 6 seconds
i dont really see how you justify that
Elminster's Elusion being only a second level spell is kinda crazy to me
ah wait
hmm i think absorb elements is more useful
also, you waste your concentration
i find using concentration on defensive spells to be a waste
just use it on something that deals more damage or provide utility
Yes but adv on saving throws against magic and having the evasion equivalent is very strong
Job bored me so hard I began to think about strange potential D&D stuff. Like for example a creature with either strange eyes or eyes that don't look like eyes at all.
Especially late game where saving throws are super imperative to pass
I believe there was a sword or fear dragon in older editions where they had fake eyes, twas pre cool
would i have this spell up? or enlarge on our fighter? or levitate? or web? flaming sphere?
"14? you failed your save ... the curse take effect, and days are now only 20 hours long"
Reminds me of the big hammer dude from ds2 who had the hammer and golden armor, had 2 very hard to see eye slits in their armor
it also competes with higher level spells for concentration
Only example that came to mind was bees for some reason. (Darkstalkers reference)
Its an entirely situational spell but when it is strong its strong
You wouldnt run it in every mission but when you go up against magic users its going to be very strong
Itd probably be best inside an enspelled weapon/armor for a fighter or something
Having a mage slayer build or something
Saw a dude be making a Jujutsu Kaisen campaign (dunno if here or on the altrole server) so Im curious if anybody made or is making a Chainsaw Man focused homebrew one.
Not that I will participate but hey..fun idea.
Very late answer, but have u checked the undead patron of the warlock class? A necromancer indeed and with just a single invocation (and maybe the green flame blade cantrip) you can use your rapier in green necrotic-ish flames
You can always just reflavor the backgrounds to fit your character
Sweet thank you! Didn’t know that
Nw, granted it is generally best to run it past your dm so there isnt any confusion, 99% of the time its fine so long as theres no mechanical change
Makes sense
Currently playing a session and we just tamed a red wyrming💀
Taming a sapient being is an odd way of saying it.
Call it what it is, enslavement.
what if you made it sapient?
Tbf it could be a homebrew setting where dragons aren’t spent
like cast "awaken" on a beast
Has in game rules where the creature decides if you’re chill based on your actions
is it enslavement for the first 30 days tho?
Kinda tbh
i mean.. isnt the wyrmling older than the players?
im pretty sure wyrmlings can live long ass time
Depends. A wyrmling could have hatched yesterday, or could be a few years old
Dragons are already sapient. More sapient than you and I
But giving a creature sentience/sapience is already a moral gray area
idk the context at this point
idk if casting "awaken" on a creature is morally gray
i think casting awaken on a creature just to torture it is evil i guess
Imagine if a bunch of squid people brought you to a higher plan of existence, and you look back at all other humans and you saw animals on two legs
but if you "awaken" it and then treat it well i'd guess not
You can no longer relate to your old life at all, and you are forced to try and relate to squid people now
Some see you as that animal still
Now that i think abt it. Why do dwarves and elves hate each other?
id see that as a benefit
Tolkein lore
cause elves are pretentious pricks
Well i wanna know the lore
Well except that you could just dispel magic if you don't like being sapient anymore
you can dispel magic awaken1?!
Pretty solid, no more questions. they do are pretentious pricks
Gotta go read LOTR
you cant dispel magic zombies
cmon mate😭
you cant dispel magic awaken
Dnd modernly isnt huge on elf dwarf hate
This is also true, it’s an instantaneous spell
Thingol's murder was the trigger that changed the relationship - Thingol had thought to combine the greatest work of the Elves (a Silmaril) and that of the Dwarves, the Nauglamir. He hired dwarves from Nogrod to do so, who seized the Silmaril and refused to return it. When Thingol attempted to recover it, the dwarves slew him and were then slain in turn. This degenerated into war. And is the cause of most of the bad blood
Oh yeah, my bad.
ooooohhh
stupid elves
This is clearly the fault of the dwarves.
i find "animate dead" a fun spell
because it leaves behind zombies that walk around permanently
is it?, Or is it the elf's fault for dying?
i imagine all the random zombies that litter the map/dungeons to have been reanimated by some kind of a magical being and just left there... like some kind of a lost lore
If he hadn't died, there would have been no war.
So if we look at it that way, technically it's the elf's fault
Forgotten realms apparently the dwarves and elves are steadfast allies
Say what now?
Dnd elves and dwarves are pals
dammit i can't send gifts here
i mean.. elves are usually pricks in 40k lore
They are pretty close allies usually, barring the high nosed subraces of both sides
they are pretentious and filled with pride
[Insert baby ash gift]
age of sigmar, or the eldar in 40k
And in almost every lore
But orcs?, orcs are badass in any universe mate
Yeah, but hes a part of our party now i guess?
40k Orcs are just PEAK
Im an Orc monk
Orcs are not badass in Tolkien, they're at best pitiful.
Peak
Bloody how
Aeldari in 40K are not arrogant. They're better than humans and know it, it is not arrogance, it's just truth. You wouldn't treat a cockroach as your equal, and if the cockroach called you arrogant, you'd raise an eyebrow
Dnd, while heavily still inspired by tolkein, tried to move away from tolkein dwarves and elves
Tolkien orcs are a bit bad, they serve a dumb elf prick
Im an half orc figther, my father was a bold and strong human and my mother a nice lady that wanted the best for her
With elves taking more of a fae-focus
Serve an ef? When?
Sauron is an elf
isnt sauron an elf? he has pointy ears
The wyrmling we have, the DM described his dragonborn form to look about mid age, and that he's also about 65% of the way through his wyrming phase
I'd advise you read Tolkien again, because Sauron most definitely and absolutely isn't an elf.
Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of Elderberries
idk, i just watched a bit of the movie, he looked like an elf
My Orc father is a warlord of a nation of Orcs
Ok but do they become sapient
That was the important question
Yes
The movie? Where he is... A giant in armour whose face you don't see?
Ok calling it taming is a bit gross
My father was a light, my mother the moth.
Well, we didnt know he was at the time, so then after we figured it out, we convinced him to come with us
Thats a grown man
He survived, taught me some stuff like my mother. After that went away to get adventures because fighting in the arena (gladiator) were boring at some point
U gotta go watch monty python and the holy grail (believe me, you need to)
"Become" sapient? Dragons are sapient
I was giving the benefit of the doubt of a hb world where dragons arent
its in my waiting list, i like hte "this but a scratch"
Oh, yeah, makes sense
if you google "sauron face" he looks 100% like an elf
When we were first fighting him, he was a prisoner to fairies, then we freed him and fought, then convinced him to help us and we would help him with his goals
You mean when it shows you the images of that time he disguised himself as an elf?
oh, thats not ACTUALLY him?
hmm i didnt know that, i just assumed that was him lol
He's a shapeshifter, all maiar are.
Idk in ma current game ma char is a cow (Highland cow aka cooler bull), his father is a cow-headed Minotaur and his mother a centaur. And he has a sister who is a completely normal human
yeah... if its from the last shows of teh LOTR.....things happened...
ya im not big on lotr i just saw pictures and assumed 😛
LMAO, i love that scene
Actually that part is canon. Well, the way the show executes it is idiotic, but it's the lore. Sauron disguised himself as an elf to enter Celembrimbor's abode and partner with him.
Envy is consuming me.
My buddy Harood (his name, a mix of Hard Wood) work in a company that.... do stuff.
You have problems with some monster? Call the company
Problems with some cultist? call the company
Our boss want a giant Hellforge for herself making us go through a living volcano to get it for her? Yes.
An ally got a cursed item and made him go feral against us and we had a whole arc for break the curse? Yep and fought a really strong demon.
I had an ice wyvern egg. But the Paladins of Tyr ate it when they killed me
I assume it was a fertilized egg?
NOOOO
Had a cave with around 300 creatures in it? We clean it free so your workers can get the stuff inside of it. IN 2 DAYS!!
idk we found it frozen on High ice
Might already be dead then
next to an forgotten arcane tower
they also ate me
My DM have another group that share the same world (he wanted to do the "lazy" move so he doesnt have to make another world)
My group fight mostly demons and cultist
The other group fight mostly undeads
Fighting the fairies were really pitiful tho, it was super sad. They were super into fighting us and it was very very dramatic, and they did like no damage and we killed them in like 1 hit
Cannibal paladins of Tyr. I wouldn't have expected that.
I am but a cow
(A magic one)
I love that
well was. Now i am but a cow shaped demon?, Fiend? I still don't quite understand it. cuz. the Paladins only left the bones and the cultists of Baphomet didn't have much to work with when they revived me.
A cow that throw warm milk.
So warm that burn your tongue!!
lol
minotaur?
a female minotaur?
no, like a whole arse Highland cow (aka bull)
Like, u Google 'Highland cow' and that's ma boy
do they have special stats in D&D or something?
nah minotaur stats
so, its a minotaur?
it is half minatour half centaur
but mostly minotaur cuz cow genetics are strong and blah blah blah
I've explained this like 20 times
kind of, earlier you said it was a highland bull so i was confused
the race is called Highland cow so i call it cow most of the time but ye it is a bull
How tall/short can a changeling make themself look?
Discord chat has maybe ten lines of memory.
Anything within Small and Medium.
A changeling warlock with the mask of many faces would be really great then i think
And your explanation is confusing because a cow, full on quadrupedal animal that can't speak, is not a playable species. If you continue to call your character a cow, continue to expect people to ask about it.
Isn't that a little redundant?
Though I guess you could use Mask of Many Faces to change your clothes, too.
It partially solves the issue of clothes not changing
At least if your goal is to never got caught/found out, it would probably be the best combo you can do at level 1
Next time ima say bull and ye i went like 4 sessions unable to speak until my party reached Thulantar and my boy was used as a test subject by drow scientists (that was bad ngl)
Whispers bard is also pretty powerful for the ability to assume another persons whole identity after their death
Did it bring them back to their regular form or allow them to speak with humans?
the regular form is a whole arse Highland bull and ye, It gave ma boy the ability to speak common language
Well at least that's something
What class are they?
Warlock of Baphomet (The Fiend)
Guys its my first boss fight wish me luck
Sorry for the very late reply but got busy yesterday, so
Summoner, i think elemental spirits or something like that, i would slowly change the pocket dimension so It can be a home for the summons (like a mini lake, trees, etc.) and i would use them for my daily life plus to help society in many different ways depending on what type of elemental spirit i send to work
Hey there
Gl! Who's the boss?
:D!! I really should be asleep by now but being kept up by Kryptic atm
goodluck my fellow monk🫡
Dont know yet, some undead monster thats homebrew
I got targeted first and got knocked out (hope im not dead)
NOOOO BROTHER
NOOOO
Nooo
FIRST HIT???
Homebrew bosses be like that.
what level are you?
6
Lol, try to sleep then
Nah hes being too cute… I can't
homebrew bosses or not the gm isnt supposed to target
I did 31 damage to him, dashed away, got restrained then thrown in lava
Fair enough lol
what subclass are u
good morning everyone
I dont have a subclass
WHAT DO YOU MEAN NO SUB
I can have one at lvl 6?
No subclass at lvl 6?
You're below lvl 3 fighting a boss?
YOU GET IT AT LEVEL 3
i suggest open hand
LVL 6? you do have a subclass!
It should be one of your Level 3 Class Features
Did you not check your class table when you hit 3rd level in your class, or are you multiclassed?
Oh.....💀 guys im so dumb
Quick
QUICK FIGURE OUT YOUR NEW SUBCLASS
The only class that gets a subclass at a different lvl Is wizard that gets a school of magic at lvl 2
I’d uhh, definitely make sure you read your class table 😅
nah ur good homie LMAOOO GET OPEN HAND
my goliath monk with open hand is super fun
WAIT
Make sure you read about your abilities. You get a bunch of stuff from level 1-6 as a Monk
I DO HAVE SUBCLASS ITS WARRIOR OF THE OPEN HAND
YESSSSSSSS BROTHER
YASSSSSSS
Wait a minute, did you say the boss threw you into lava?
I apologize guys im very new to dnd
Yes
nah same dw u chose the right class
Oh your cooked…. Literally….
Unless someone does something IMMEDIATELY, you are dead
I got thrown into that air by chains and im in the ceiling
ur good bossman
I think your DM wants you dead
yeah, Lava is a real problem. You gotta get the hell outta there
You can still survive then
is this a party meets the bbeg super early to ego check trope?
That is only partially true. In 2014 5e Sorcerers, Clerics, and Warlocks get their subclasses at 1st level. Druids also get theirs at level 2, and everyone else at 3. In 2024 5.5e all classes get their subclasses at level 3.
Ah my bad i forgot, thanks for correcting my mistake
Star is the true goat
Feels like a live encouragement chat
All hail starofthelight bows at their feet
Also remember your Deflect Attacks. A significant amount of your survivability in combat is due to your ability to Deflect an Attack
No just random boss
my monk brother must succeed
You got this lill bro
I failed 2 saving throws
NOOOOOO
Random early boss and already with brutal stage hazards like lava sheesh
Death throws?
Yes
Oh no bro SOMEONE HEAL HIM
OH NOOOO
CLERIC DO YOUR DAMN JOB
WHERES THE CLERIC
And mercury
Hopefully someone has healing word
Literally half of the class roster can healllll
GET OUT OF THERE BROTHER
We dont have one, we have a Rogue, monk (me) barbarian and sorcerer
Someone feed bro a supreme healing potion
i got 10 bucks on whoever you're fighting
I CANT IM TRAPPED
I bless your next roll
i got ten bucks on the monk
How are the rest of party doing against the boss?
He is in lava bros he aint making it 😢
making it 20!
NAH WAIT A MINUTE WE AGREED ON TEN
…Someone with a medicine kit at least?
No he's in the ceiling now
Bad, the boss is gaining more health than we can deal
DONT LET BRO FALL 10 ft fall will kill him
oh yo its healing?
Does the sorcerer have anything??? They CAN have a heal spell
this dm wants pain
Wheres chill touch
I have an item in my inventory that is greater restoration
It can even regenerate!? I feel a tpk incoming
Your DM hates you… idk how to tell you this
This has to be a narrative combat if it has a massive self heal 😭
oh yeah, Potion of Vitality or somethin
Def narrative TPK
Nooooo
No other way
It has a siphon ability, so if he chains a player and does damage, he gains the same amount of damage
we're making fan theories about this guy's active game
im having so much fun
good times
Critical role who?
Our barbarian is currently restrained so thats how hes gaining so much health
That barbarian is selling!!!!
Inb4 their DM: “I didn’t expect a TPK here”
I died
yo lowkey ur Barbarian is a bag of lifestealable hit points
NOOOOOOOO
Tell him to lock the f in
NOOOOOOOOO
Tbh i would do something like this in a Erevan's Guide To Death Beyond since it's all about undead, necromancy and easier ways to ressurect
Nooooooooooooooooo
I’ll start digging the grave
i'm going shopping toniiiiight
Lill bro perished without experiencing the game with a subclass
thats roughs man
i didnt know that mf had a siphon
I'll help you out
rigged bet
yeah right thats kinda wild
Guess gwyn won the bet
Kee come back
I totally missed the description of whatever ur fighting. its got lifestealing chains? what the hell did ur DM make?
We need the play by play
sigh monks on top still wait till u learn to spam stunning strike
Something homebrew I think
level 6 is high enough level for a possible Revivify to be somewhere in ur group
We killed the boss but I failed all my saves
nooooo
I had to lock in as the dnpc
That's absolutely tragic
I LIIIIIIIIIIIIIVED
YES
YESSSSSS
GREATER RESTORATIOOOOOOOOOON
BACK FROM THE BRINK
Let's gooooo
IM DOWN AGAIN NOOOOOOOO
HOW
HOW!?
WTF IS HAPPENING IM SO ENTHRALLED
this roller coaster
Y'all I need a stream of this
Im on the edge of my seat
I fear Mocha was right, the DM wants you dead
Okay I got healed by a kit by a dnpc and im at 1 hp
so gwyn he lives and the boss is dead
Wait a minute how did greater restoration work of you failed your death saves 😭
You'll soon learn that I'm always right
I hate to be a party pooper but
- Greater Restoration doesn’t revive people, nor does it even heal
- Please don’t use all caps it messes with screen readers
- This story definitely spawns some confusion and honestly moves a little too fast in updates to seem real to me
I'm being hunted down by a Marut as we speak
Its a unicorn horn, homebrew item, if im less than a minute after death it could save me
Don't ruin the vibes
Can be used once per day
this guy NetHacks
I guess with the power of a DMPC and homebrew anything is possible 😅
Soon you say? Are you always right cause it's you or cause you are a girl?
✨Magic✨
Im just happy to not be dead
Both….
I’m sorry? Neither sharing an opinion nor asking people to keep their messages accessible ruins vibes. It’s possible to have fun moments without ignoring concerns or monopolizing discussions.
im proud of you my monk brother
Noted, lol
i always believed in u keegs
Thank you kryptic
You did great Keegs
1st boss down many more to come
What he said
I seem to get knocked out a lot during combat encounters, we've had like 6 encounters and I've been knocked out in them at least 4 times I think
Oh boi, It means they will get harder and harder
How much hp you got?
Now you have a subclass tho…
I been having it, I'm just dumb and didn't realize
Okay chat, this was a lot of fun. I hope the rest of your session goes great Keegs…
But I really need to sleep 😭 my eyes r burning
at 6th level with open hand u can use wholeness of body to heal yourself
Good night Mocha
I just got that, so I will be using it. Just hadn't had the ability to cause i got messed up my second turn
that comes in clutch also remember quickened healing as well
I did create an arch nemesis tho a few sessions ago with a bandit leader
1v1s as a monk are so fun especially when your stunning strikes are hitting
Dm ended on the biggest cliffhanger and we mad
classic dm
BUT, I gained the chains the boss had and I can use them
like a hook?
Chains are an underrated weapon
I get a +2d8 to my unarmed strikes, can use a bonus action to restrain my target only if they are knocked over, and if they are I get a siphon ability, and all my attacks become magical
Get your table a chronurgy wizard and clockwork sorcerer. Give them both lucky and shield and silvery barbs. Have them spam their Restore Balance and Chronal Shift and Convergent Future.
Call them the Clockblockers.
I wrapped them around my forearms and ill use them like that
thats busted
I'm not sorry
Badass
I got it before the boss fight, and he immediately took me out
bros monk just became kurapika from hxh
Oof. Yeah I’ve been there before
Funny how my brothers were watching hxh yesterday and It was an episode with kurapika lol
If they are chained down, they have to make a strength check of 16 or above, and when they are chained down they cannot escape in anyway
holy controller
Its so busted but I needed it so bad with how quickly I go down
Oh dayum. What class are you again? Monk?
throw a stunning strike in first and everyones cooked
2d8 is insanely strong regardless of the level
Monk is a second-line fighter, try using hit and run tactics or keeping other allies closer to the enemy forces than you
Thats more than a greatsword (this is on top of the base damage)
plus a siphon effect? this monk is going places
How experienced is the dm bahahaha
Very
Interesting... and what level is this monk?
Im 6
Oh dayum
AND we do have a red dragon wyrmling in our party
WHAT
im new whats that?
Baby dragon
BABY DRAGON?
Homebrew stuff always go crazy
That DM is one of the most merciful I have ever seen. I love it!
We freed him from fairies, he tried to kill us and we restrained him
tbf he did just almost murder bros character at level 6
First round, by throwing in lava
Ive almost died in the 4/6 encounters we've had
Hmm so 4 attacks for 3d8+(we'll assume 3 from dex) for avg 16.5 dmg per attack or avg 46 dmg per round assuming no crits
Good point
If I could roll good then yes
What’s your con modifier?
Well baby in age relative to a dragon's life cycle. Wyrmlings are fairly smart (red ones are evil too)
plus a potential stunning strike, topple, and a siphon effect from the chains right?
Assuming its maxed out dmg with no crits itd be 27 per attack or 108 damage in a single round
....0
Well there's ya problem
But it is at 11
Oh…
More con is more gooder.
Or if you get giga lucky you crit on every attack and its a max of 204 in a round
Next ASI buff up your con, and be more evasive and defensive
My strength is +3 and at base 16
Evasive defensive and healthier
Like I said, monks are second line fighters, so don’t be putting yourself at the front
Oh you went a str monk not a dex?
And my dex is 19 +4
You're a monk with a strength investment???
.....Is that bad?
Nvm its a dex monk but w/ str bahahaha
They don't use it for pretty much anything
Its not bad but its not great
This is my first campaign😭
It’s not bad, but monks just don’t really need it
You dont have any real strength usage or scaling
That 16 could've been put into your con lmao
It would be better to have a 16 in con
It's not bad, just not optimal. Strength is basically a dump stat unless you're going out of you way to grapple a bunch, or doing a bunch of Athletics checks on the regular. Or are using Heavy weapons. Dex does everything Strength does, except for Grapples, and it governs the most common and needed Save (Every AOE spell and effect ever is Dex save for half damage.), AC, Attacks.
Then youd have a +3 to ac and a +18 to hp
Damn, I thought it would affect my strikes cause im proficient in unarmed fighting
My AC is already 19
Did you read the monk class page?
Monks can use dex for attacks
It’s no problem, we’ve all been there before
From what? Bahahaha im genuinely confused how
Plate armor?
Its base was 17, I got bracers of defense, I have no armor
Are you a tortle?
^
Im an Orc
Unarmoured defense
How is your base AC 17 then?
How tf is your base 17 with a con of 11
What’s your wisdom mod? I’m assuming +3
Yes
Monks use wisdom for their unarmoured defence
Yeah the "base" specification tripped me up since that's only used in a few scenarios
Some of my stats are good guys i swear😭
Well. The high AC and presumably good sage bonuses are good. Just buff up your con next time and you should be good to go
And what subclass are you?
Im honestly surprised that a dm would give 2d8 additional dmg on each hit
Warrior of the open hand
You're leagues above with just that change
As your Dex is higher, your Dex effects your Unarmed Strikes, I mean you could also use Strength, but you'd have a lower damage and hit chance. Unarmed Strikes are Strength Based, but Monks, and Only Monks can use Dex instead.
I will die defending this subclass I like it
Oh then again it could be that theyre cursed chains
If I were to give an op item id make them cursed
Guys im really bad at using my other skills besides unarmed strike and fury of blows i think thats also my problem
Hi what’s everyone’s moral alignment ?
Irl I’d say I’m neutral good. Or at least I try to be
Awesome Good
chaotic good
Neutral good, Leef tries his best to be better than who he was in his past
Which is more justice ? Lawful good or neutral good? I want to be the better one bc one is more care of the law but the other cares more abt the people
Most people are probably lawful neutral irl tbf
Open hand is built around flurry
If you played a better subclass you wouldn't Die When Killed.
All are signs of justice, the lawful vs chaotic scale does not affect how good or evil you are
Actually more would be chaotic neutral cus alots of them hates rules and want to do the things they want which makes them happy
Or even true neutral(just neutral)
Lawful would tend to respect laws more, though that doesn't mean they would respect every law.
Well no cuz if we're mostly chaotic neutral we wouldn't respect the law at all or do the bare minimum
But just topple them so you get adv on your attacks
I am nervous to go to our main destination, because the main kingdom we are going to is at war with a Legion of Orcs
Yes that’s true, I mean in the game most would be chaotic neutral
And I am one (only the dm knows but I used to be a general in one of the armies of the legion of orcs they are at war with)
i think the average person basically ranges from Lawful Good to Neutral Good. Most people like, or are neutral about law and civilization and its benefits and detriments. Most people also don't really do evil shit, at worst its bad stuff.
Speaking of civilization does anyone know the game Civ? In Civ5 who’s the most lawful good leader is it Haile Salessie (Ethiopia) leader?
Legality and morality aren’t always aligned
Taps the D&D Discussion sign
There are 4 people in our party, a noble sorcerer (dnpc), a wyrmling that can turn into a dragonborn barbarian (dnpc), a dragonborn rogue (pc) and an Orc monk (pc)
Your table has two dmpcs and two pcs?
Yes
Wait why do you even need two dms in a 3-4 person campaign
What? Theres 2 players (me and my friend) and one dm
You said there's two dmpcs, or is your dm controlling both dmpcs
are these guys like sidekicks or are they also members of ur justice league
Well, yes I think, he does the voices for them and me and my friend do their combat encounters
The noble is a sidekick for now, he might leave hs when we make it to the kingdom, but the wyrmling is staying with us (I think)
I was about to call the wyrmling a party pet and not a DMPC but then I remembered that dragons are actually smart and have human thought so nvm
Hes trying to create a horde for himself so we are helping him, so I think hes staying with us?
I think there's a distinct difference between an NPC accompanying the Party, and a DMPC.
Seems cynical to me. I feel like most people are generally Lawful Good. Maybe Neutral Good.
yo same Ophid
Don’t let definitions become stretched, people
One is fine and leaves everything pretty much to the Party, the Other is just the DM as another Player Charecter and gets in the way of the rest of the party's decisions more often then not.
This is my first time playing so idk
People generally have a decent level of empathy for like .. pets, let alone other people.
If we strip away most laws, would people continue to do good or start flirting with dubious things
I could start quoting the joker rn
There is decency in people but imo its also because of laws encouraging us to do good
Generally good, mostly for their own communities, but that's still good leaning.
And most people would establish rules for their communities, even without a larger government standing over them.
I hear too many bad things about people misstreating animals and other people to believe that's the case
Because horror stories are sensationalized.
Go out and actually meet people, the majority are just decent.
Eh people tend to share and remember bad things more than good things, especially when it makes for shocking news
Something something "man is smart, people are dumb"
I hope they stay though, cause we wouldn't have been able to beat the last 4 combat encounters without them
Alignment talks are always such a slippery slope 😭
Culturally in D&D spaces, "DMPC" has a negative connotation. Its often used to mean something like "the main character" or "the PC the DM wishes they could be playing". There's not really a solid word for "NPC ally who is temporarily or permanently a party member". 5e eventually made rules for Sidekicks, which are for exactly this. I've always used the term Sidekick, but it never really caught on.
I should watch MIB again...
I think the noble sorcerer might be a sidekick cause he did level up with us the last time we did
Thus goes DND discussion. As long a people are generally following the rules, it's fine.
I know, I wasn’t trying to shut it down
But idk with the wyrmling cause he technically doesn't have a sheet cause yk... its a wyrmling
Everything can have a sheet
Imagine if the wyrmling will actually be the final boss of the campaign
Do most player follows the rules atleast? If so they would be lawful mostly or neutral atleast otherwise if not then chaotic
Chaotic evil is the worst hopefully most people aren’t like that
Bhaalists are fun
I don’t believe barbarians are the only one that are chaotic evil and also hopefully they are atleast chaotic neutral not evil
rogue class enters the chat
Barbarians do not have to be chaotic evil, though? What?
We just use the actual in book page for him
Any class can be any alignment.
No bc I don’t play D&D I’m not familiar with this
I'm offended, my poor Dwarf Barb is designed to be Lawful Good from the very start smh
shoot man, i'd say I play the game in a Lawful Good way. I employ a healthy use of the rules because I'm aware of how they make fun happen.
I'm famiar with games that are.. probably Chaotic Neutral at worst tbh. I hate playing calvinball when I sign up for D&D. It happens bizarrely often.
My dragonborn rogue would be devastated cause he loves him
Is that why you jumped into a dnd chat asking non dnd stuff lol
I find lawful evil to be the worst, because they can snake their way out of justice. With chaotic evil people they’re easier to get a just cause to lock up
I apologize bc I really don’t know this
Try #dnd-newcomers
Why are you here? 😭
Are you talking about me?
Yes
to... learn D&D guys?
Bc I’m into moral alignment
Does it look like he's learning dnd lol, he jumps in and immediately focuses on the alignment system and... civ 5?
... yes? this is par for the course?
That gives off the same energy as me jumping into dnd and immediately focusing on the history of glaives
Is it uh, smart to be apart of 2 campaigns as a first time player?
Sweet, its kinda funny cause I like my Orc monk so much I copied his sheet and made him as a twin brother to my other Orc😭
TBF D&D's alignment system is, imo, very generalist and condenses only a small aspect of what morality is. The system is descriptive, not prescriptive anyway so it's not like a lawful good character has to do good and follow laws 100% of the time
If you have the time and resources to be in 2 campaigns go for it, more experience and fun is always good!
Yeah, its not a strongly built system. Its got its own weirdness. Its a huge bird's eye view of a person's conduct.
If you can do it, then go ahead! Last year I was involved in five at once
What is better is one campaign is online and the other is in person
That is subjective, imo
The online one we had one session and in person we've had 5
Some people prefer online, some people prefer irl
I just mean it feels better balanced having one of each
try it both ways and see what you like
I like online play for certain things (VTTs, no need to travel, etc.). I like in-person for certain things (crosstalk, whispering, hanging out, etc.)
Heck yeah
I mean, if you start D&D, and then hyperfixate on the history of a neat, niche weapon, more power to you? It's certainly a more relevant tangent then suddenly talking about Civilization. But then again, I'm a fan of hilariously indepth histories of random things.
Btw I can get into D&D im willing to learn abt even tho I never played and I already knew some stuffs like the the knight, barbarian all that stuff
No like my point isn't random topics vaguely related to dnd, my point is that if that is the first thing to focus on, are you really here to get into dnd or is it just a convenient platform to spark debate/discussion
Then I won’t debate, I’ll get into it
Is there any veracity to the rumors about 6e? Any confirmed news or anything like that?
Seems quite baseless given we have a roadmap for 5.5E content.
None
That's unfortunate, but not surprising
They even only just started calling it "5.5" based on that moniker's popularity.
Unfortunate?
5e has been around for 12 years, though we did get a 5.5. I was hoping to see something new on the horizon. A bit of hope that 5.5 is a soft play test for 6th
I'm happy that I can buy old second hand books and having them be mostly relevant
Yeah, 5e is in a really good spot right now, I don't see any need to rock the boat.
Especially since 2024 was very recently
I saw 5.5e as a new dawn already. I think it’ll be several more years or even a decade before 6e
I honestly wish new editions never came
Chat, how do you feel about having a character in a good aligned party, to simplify, turn evil. How would you handle that
I quite like '24 and would prefer it just stick.
Although there’s only one edition I need - AD&D (Amity D&D 😎)
I do hope we at least get more planechase stuff to make the alignment system a little more relevant
New editions arent needed at all
Probably pre-discuss that with all players and the DM.
The only thing that matters is releasing modules etc no?
If new editions didn’t come, then I and millions of other people would have never picked this game up and fallen in love with it
Why?
Why does it need to be a new dnd?
But also let’s be honest if dnd kept the rules of it’s very first edition then… it wouldn’t be as good tbh
It's something you do with players you trust
If an edition is getting long in the tooth, you'll also get the issue of new people having to deal with a crazy amount of content.
I think they meant that we don't need a new one after this recent one. We're in a good spot.
Ohhhh. My b
1st e was a mess
3.5 or 5 could have just stayed
People will always houserule stuff, no need for a book to say youre right
Sometimes
While that is true, a sense of what's official is a common ground. I can reliably join other tables and know, "Oh, this will be consistent."
It just splits people and forces more money spent
Having professional game designers double check your rule is useful, especially if you play with a lot of strangers
I do like the expansions for 3e/4e in regards to the book of vile darkness and the book of exalted deeds. I'd like to see something like that in 5.5.
True
You say that but there's still some exploits that would break the game if we take everything by RAW
Why do ppl want to buy more necessary books and read more changed rules is the part im not following
That's why we have stuff like AL
Collecting books is fun /s
Yes but not just to keep up with this financial scheme
Because my bookshelf hasn't collapsed yet and I'm trying to find critical mass
That's why i buy as little as i can about dnd, if i find stuff online, that's It, no need to buy it
...hey that is my favourite hobby
I like it too
Pen and paper as they say
That's enough for me lol
did bugbears lose its ability to sneak attack and got grapple instead?
I mean from a business standpoint yeah they're gonna keep releasing stuff and make new rulebooks they kinda want more money
Absolutely
Did bugbear get printed in a new book?
I just wonder why its anticipated in some regards
You do realize that things become stale and boring after a while, right?
bugbear WARRIOR got printed
"bugbear" itself didnt
Oh you mean from the Monster Manual or?
Yes but not how you calculate spellslots or the hide action works etc
Bugbear Stalker and Bugbear Warrior are in the 5.5e Monster Manual
Dark Sun looks promising in terms of new stuff; it can't come soon enough.
There thats new thats good
Not me, I wish alignment to basically go away.
Content, not just another reset of the same thing
I mean I don't see a need to change the species bugbear I mean monsters and species are different all the time
In my IRL campaign we had a pc succumb to a curse they'd been dealing with, which lead to the character committing a horrible act, this lead to confrontation with the party, and as he kept giving into darker urges it prompted the group to attempt an exorcism (which is a mechanic of the settng we're playing). But it was all to late, and as we were tracing the magic circle around our former comrade, his body twisted into a monstrous form.
And this is how we fought a werebeast controlled by our friend, while the master took a day off from running combat.
but they arent "bugbear"
I don't know what all the fuss is over alignment. It's just an approximation for where someone leans that can shift and meander.
It could have been handled better but the party was excited about this development
tbh for me its more a "what kind of person were they at the beginning"
- I REALLY dont like alignment dictating peoples actions throughout a campaign
thats how you get people doing dumb/ bad stuff "bc their character would do that"
Yeah, approximate enough that it's not useful and in fact it contributes to a lot of misunderstandings at the table.
I think some people community struggle with inflexible thinking and can take it a bit too strictly
is the dnd online voice world particularly kind to ppl on the younger side of things
It shouldn't dictate at all; you play the character, so nothing's stopping you from changing the label where it feels you've had a significant change in perspective.
Though at my table I did change the creature types we saw in the new Monster manual like making goblins fey
It's officially not even supposed to do that, it is only supposed to describe your choices and actions, not control or dictate anything at all.
But the fact that people still think it controls your character rather than the other way around is yet another misunderstanding at the table.
This, literally this. It shouldn't be this complicated to understand.
exactly my point, but many people take it to be not that
The alignment table used to be mechanically relevant though
This constant misunderstanding about it makes it an active detriment to the hobby.
Tied to your class even
I suppose depends on where you're looking for there's plenty of older groups but there's also younger ones
100% agreed
And the less it is mechanically relevant to the character sheet, the better.
Alignment is so badly explained in 5E that new players have to go online to find out how to actually use the system. Online they find that there is a different opinion for each "veteran" player out there. Leading the new player to have to basically do a mini research paper sifting through the various essays online to hammer out their own understanding. This time would be better spent playing. Furthermore, Alignment has led to so many game breaking and table ending fights that its value as a system is in the negative in my opinion. I think it's actively harmful to the hobby.
Alignment still mechanically releveant for spells like Spirit Guardians
I mean thats up to the dm imo + alignment IS subject to change
They had a system that worked better in the 2014 PHB. One that allowed you to be flexible and customize your own character's personality: PBIF (Personality, Bonds, Ideals, Flaws)
if someone is good alignment but still want to use the fiendish part, sure bro why not, spell be spelling, magic go brrr
I think morality is cheapened by describing it through alignment personally. In reality people act in according to principles and circumstances, this is why discussion about alignment is often pretty confused
I mean you could use both no?
