what does the component do for spellcasting?
component or component pouch?
component, as in component V, S, M - for example
Components are a cost. Verbal, Somatic (Movements), and Material.
You need whatever the spell has to cast it, though in some cases you can substitute them out.
I wonder if the Goblin gods are weaker than the other gods
i mean ofc they should be, cuz they are still BLOODY GOBLINS
if a spell has an "M" that means it has a material component needed to cast the spell.
If that component has a price associated with in in the spell, the spell consumes it each time.
if it doesn't you can use the same component each time or use something like an arcane focus in it's place.
let's be careful not to be racist..fantasy racism or not, it's not very funny
You can skip material components if you have an arcane focus, but only if they don't have a gold cost or the spell doesn't consume the component. (It will specify if it does.)
A handful of spells from Acquisitions Incorporated also have what's called a "royalty component" where you have to pay the developer of the spell a small gold cost per cast that scales with spell slot level.
so basically:
V - vocal. Can't be silenced when I want to cast it
S - Somatic (gestures) - can't have my body immobolized when I want to cast it
M - Material - I need matreials required to cast it unless I have Arcane Focus
Yes. Though again the arcane focus only pays the material cost if the material doesn't have a listed gold cost or isn't consumed.
(Mainly as a balancing factor.)
Can u cast somatic spells whit magehand?
I don't think so because you summon a hand but it's not your hand.
It's just a hand.
nope?
The royalty component probably won't come up much but if you can't pay the gold cost you technically RAW can't cast those spells.
RAW?
Rules As Written.
How the game works based on rules text only with no interpretation.
It's an imagination game and DMs often play fast and lose with how they work situationally but there is technically a way they are all "supposed" to work.
I feel like in a situation like that there should be some leeway, you're already homebrewing to play as a cow to begin with.
Technically I'm playing Minotaur/centaur/half-minotaur, u get it
You don't technically have to specifically flourish your hands for Somatic comments, I think? Move your tail.
Ahh, makes sense.
If the cow can speak and you can move your tail I think you've got things covered.
Maybe, ima try and if ma DM tells me smth ima say i did the gestures whit ma tail
Centaurs are my favorite race
The cow does not speak, only cow (Like Mooo and shi). but yk, Warlock powers
baphomet ma belovedđđđđ
You might need hands after all, on a second glance. If I was a DM I'd let you use your tail though, might be worth asking.
It's not like you're trying to mechanically cheat with full hands, you don't have hands.
@tulip anchor That's another thing, you can't cast Somatic component spells if both of your hands are occupied without something like the War Caster feat.
Oh whoops, tagged the wrong person.
Not sure if it actually pings them if you edit and retag but there we go.
Hey everyone, Iâm wondering if there is a typo in the Starter Set and Monster Manual 2024⌠the entry for Hobgoblin Warrior stated that they have a Longsword, but that it does 2d10+1 damage. From what I know, the Longsword is Versatile offering either 1d8 or 1d10 damage. Even the 2014 MM has the 1d10 damage stat. Why does it look like they now suddenly get an extra damage die?
I don't think monster attacks are beholden to the same rules as regular items.
Monsters need not work exactly as PC's and PC equipment.
Ok. So their damage just got buffed from the 2014 version?
Yurp
Most damage and healing numbers in 2024 are bigger.
Mechanically monsters aren't using the same rules anyway though, if you look in 2024 instead of spell slots monsters have abilities that work like spells that have daily cooldowns.
If a monster has equipment that can be given away or retrieved, the items are listed in the Gear entry. The monsterâs stat block might include special flourishes that happen when the monster uses an item, and the stat block might ignore Playerâs Handbook rules for that item. When used by someone else, a retrievable item uses its Playerâs Handbook rules, ignoring any special flourishes in the stat block.
This was also true in 2014, btw, but the wording was different
Huh ok gotcha
Monster has fancy sword PC Picks it up, it instantly turns into a useless piece of crap "Wow that sucks."
RPG tale as old as time. x3
Second only to "Really powerful antagonist joins your team when you beat them and isn't nearly as strong."
I think i broke ma own rule
Dammit
@harsh hollow u know ur stuff mate, is ma char too op/too cool?
cuz i might have to uncool ma cow. lower ma game 3/4
It sounds like you only have one "hand" which is your mouth, right?
ye and i can only use one handed low weight stuff
And specifically which stat block do you use? Centaur and minotaur work differently.
char cuz warlock
idk where i left ma chart last session ngl
Honestly whether it's too OP or not would probably be a discussion for your DM. Are the other players unhappy with you doing too well or something?
nah they love it
A character being strong doesn't necessarily make them OP as long as the DM and your other players are happy.
not doin too well tho, only doin silly cow stuff
Ima talk whit ma DM
Yeah, if you're in doubt about how you're doing that's usually a good place to start.
Thereâs such a thing as too OP, thereâs no such thing as too cool
you can be restrained and still do somatic componets
Hi Tasha
hi Aeon
As long as your hands can move, I think you can use Somantic components
exactly
Oh yeah no way ma boy is TOO OP, but there is such thing as too cool
(i mean cmon, no hands. Can't talk whit ma party unless speak to animals get casted, only can use one handed low weight stuff. Plus, im a cow)
they can only speak to you for an hour lol
You need to get someone on your team to pick up Speak with Animals.
Oh wait you said that.
Ma cleric found the Ring of Animal Influence so im happy
I think there's magic items that can help that along.
But there's so many from Griffon's Saddlebag alone that I have a hard time remembering what is and isn't 3rd party.
they can cast speak with animals 1d3 times per dawn
That'd be so funny. x3
Oooooooor i could always multiclass into bard to use some cool aaah saxophone ma party found
decisions decisions ngl
A human is not a "beast" category so it wouldn't work without the DM hand waving it.
Discarded
I got such a good idea
I play a Centaur Str Monk, a friend plays an Elf Dex Fighter with Mounted Combatant, we ride around killing things
Peak, wait, being a centaur monk, would let you do a horse kick and add all the buffs?
i have a question
I would rule yes as a DM, but I donât know if itâs RAW
Yeah?
what kind of paint should i use for my dnd minutres
if the vampire bite of Dhampir count, i guess a horsekick will too
I like The Army Painter brand
ok how much is it
Centaur hooves are an Unarmed Strike, so
The starter set is 43.19 for 11 bottles
Well thatâs sad
what?
why?
It means they can work with Martial Arts. Since Martial Arts modified your Unarmed Strikes
I thought you said no
did i say no?
Whoops
Thoughts on half dragons and I mean the one's from Fizbands treasurey of dragons not 2024 monster manual half dragons
Fizban has Half Dragons?
Fizban doesnt have playable species option for half dragons. They have a revamped Dragonborn
Nonetheless you can play as a half dragon
thanks for the info
You could always have reflavored dragonborn as half dragons :v
Do you know how half dragons are made?
Yeah Half-Dragons are not a Playable Race, all you get is Dragonborn. Which are easily slotted into Half-Dragons.
I know how theyre made, from the 2014 MM and the 2024 MM
Either direct children of dragons and other beings, or magical creations.
Or creatures that are affected from the dragon's magic after living near a dragon for so long
Ive used the template a shit ton in 2014
They can be made of 2 ways 1 a ritual or a polymorphed dragon mates with a Humanoid race
Or a Beast, Dragon, Monstrosity
But a half dragon is a Humanoid race so you can play it
again
Who said?
Not really how that works.
RAW, there is no official Half Dragon species
You cannot just apply the template onto yourself either
Fizban's has race options, but they're just the Chromatic, Gem, and Metallic Dragonborns
If it's a Humanoid race you should be able to play it
... what logic is this
Things being humanoid or not has zero bearing on whether or not they've got Player Charecter blocks.
We also got non Humanoid playable species
Honestly I'm hoping for more non-Humanoids as options in the future
Warforged being Constructs and Kalashtar being Aberrations is really cool to me
Hold Person should be updated to work on anything with a humanoid arrangement of limbs though
And you can play a Warforged
Because they're a Playable Species with an actual Player feature block.
They are
There are distinct differences from random things you find in the Monster Manual, and Playable Species.
I feel similarly about Reincarnate. I wish Reincarnate was future proofed for when there's more Species in the game
I'd show you the picture of the page from Fisbands treasurey of dragons that has the half dragon if I could
Itâs a much higher level spell, and it implies warforged, goblins, kalashtar, etc arenât people
I feel like you're deliberately not paying any attention to the words we're saying to you JakeB, gonna be real honest.
you keep saying they are without a quote or proof
You have the burden of proof rn
Because I can't pll uf a picture to show you the page from Fisbands book
You can quote passages from the text though
Was D&D beyond having a lot of issues today or was it just me?
And having Two Arms, and Two Legs, don't make People either?
Just forget it fine you guys win
Itâs a better definition than what they have now. Or they could introduce dual creature types (although they may need to errata some other rules for that)
There's a Half-Dragon monster Statblock in it, yes. But again, Monster Stablocks do not = Player Blocks.
Dual Creature types ain't happening
that ship has looooong since sailed.
when did they experiment with that again? was that back when they were figuring out the Gothic Lineages?
yeap. Reborn UA was dual
depend of where they are honestly
I think its Reborn. I also remember someone being able to pick between Construct and someone else
Itâs really strange for Hold Person to not work on a PC race
ÂŻ_(ă)_/ÂŻ
I don't think it's that strange.
I dont think the line should be drawn at wether its a PC race
It's magic that was built around humans and other common races. It's not weird that it stops working when you use it on a Fairy, or a guy made of metal and wood.
also the arbitrary changing of so many things away from humanoid, does imply they're no longer a person since charm or hold or dominate person doesn't work on them
nvm
Kalashtar, for instance, have very similar biology to humans with the exception of the Quori connection (which is a mental thing, but they do already have advantage on wisdom saves to represent that)
On the other end, warforged are implied to have the same form of intelligence humanoids have, so if Hold Person is based on the mind, then that becomes a hole
Awakened animals be like:
The only real reason why its called Person/Monster is cuz of older editions anyway
Same with Evil and Good spells
Somehow this conversation happens constantly and every time it feels so bad faith and/or gross
Intelligence doesnât necessarily equate to a humanoid mind (fiends, celestials, etc)
Although yes itâs a similar thing
Awaken gives them just that though
It says 10 int+a language
Detect Bad Vibes and Good Vibes
Which could very well be interpreted as humanoid, but it doesnât have to be
For Warforged, them being just as much of a person as traditional humanoids is a large part of their debate within Eberron
how do you guys like my homebrew:
right before combat we enter a prepair stage:
you can prepare for battle +1 (or more depending)
or try to talk your way out of situations or something similar
The scope of what affects you is the only real way creature type can change anything as PC, so of course that's how it works.
a player question from today:
Can i use speak with animals on a kenku? (the kenku has been speaking in common mimicry)
I don't think kenku are considered beasts, doesn't the spell specify it works on like, ordinary non-sapient animals?
yes xD
Kenku are:
- Sapient
- Sentient
- Not Beasts
- Humanoid/Monstrosities
RAW, no, Kenku are humanoids and not beasts
but is how is the kenku's intelegence at a certain point technically they are a beast
(Monstrosity for the 2024 statblock)
you can comprehend and verbally communicate with Beasts,
And plants.
Thatâs a separate spell
When Kenku were reprinted in MoTM I think they removed the mimicry thing anyway didn't they?
Kenku have 11 INT...
At least the forced one.
mb i thought it was with anything of an int score of like 5 or lower
...
still wouldnt work for these reasons
It is indeed a seperate spell, but I felt it important to mention because "Person" is a wide, varied thing in D&D land. There's even Sentient weapons that VERY much classify as a Person.
mmm seems pretty speak with animals'y
Youâre thinking of the required intelligence for language
honestly probably
animals have an average int of 3-6. A commoner has 10 on average
6 INT is the likes of Dolphins and Apes
hmm smarter animal then, i understand now
see now i think the point thats being missed here is the kenku was speaking IN COMMON
ravens and ogres have 5
I too, speak in common
toddler intelligence
ehh thats not the point common or not, i dont speak it,
That's normal for them now, they patched out the curse.
Chat as a druid what's the most stereotypical thing I can do/say when in a city.
Because most people agreed the Curse was stupid and annoying
"It stinks"
you can only get so far too with the Bee Radio Switching
"this forest is weird, it seems made of stone and cut trees"
"the nests of the people are different"
âHow bout this weather weâre having?â
Thanks. Our bard is being cringe so I wanna return the favor xd
The Wizard with Control Weather.
that's just asking for a review
a what
I still think itâs stupid that speak with animals didnât work on animals with a 4 or higher in 14
cuz typically those animals have a language
Giant variants tended to have their own languages
Im pretty sure the ape didnât have a language
its a monke, they can sign
I guess
Only one I can think of that has its own language is the giant eagle cause theyâre like bastions of good or sum such
Thatâs it Iâm summoning a swarm of cranium rats to eat your brain
Eagle, Owl, Elk had languages iirc
Thanks
so here's a question, which god would y'all say is the most evil?
For the faerĂźn pantheon its bhaals himself, he is evil to the point of comedy
For a not hilariously evil option Iâd say Loth back when she was actually taken seriously
Cyric
Giant Elk even had its own language!
I've heard cyric is like marvel loki turned up to 11
Cyric is the more serious of the two gods of murder
Most evil god of Greyhawk is Erythnul
exactly
Cyric is also... A big crybaby baby boy
Mask trolled him hard by becoming his favorite sentient magical weapon for hundreds of years, learning all his secrets and Cyric STILL hasn't gotten back at him
A lot of the faerĂźn evil deities seem to be overly emotional
Evil doesn't typically go hand in hand with Stability and Maturity more often then not.
That is true
when it does, its terrifying
Yes buuut cold emotionless evil and âjust a jobâ evil are probably my favorite brands of evil and we need more of that imo
Sanity = 100
how long do combats last in dnd. does it last over an hour in dnd time rarely or like never
In game or session time?
that would be like 100 turns or smth idk. game time
Depends the higher level combat can but lower level combat rarely lasts an in game minute
Average combat lasts 3 rounds, so 18 seconds
Few combats last a minute.
yeap yeap
If it lasts a minute, something has gone terribly wrong in the encounter.
is all participants decide to do nothing for the entire combat would it still be consdiered combat
dunno
That'd be a no.
Mystra
Combat involves Combat, if no Combat occurs, and no resources have been expended, all you've done is roll Iniative and stare awkwardly at one another.
a combat where resoruces are expended but no damage is done
Lmao
the god of evil
Thatâs a really bad combat đ
Then that's still Combat. Not much of one, but it happens. If a fight is instantly ended by a good Hypnotic Pattern or the like, it was still a Fight.
how does one travel mor ethan 3,000 feet in 6 seconds without death.
ik physics don't apply to dnd
I'm suddenly reminded that my DM has a bossfight entirely dodged by a Psuedodragon critting on their Sting Attack.
Teleportation
through walk speed
Probably a hyper boosted monk of some kind? Idk
"I'm gonna kill ya- Ope nevermind doooown I go." Burbles in being poisoned unconscious
Closest I could think of is wood elf, max level monk, hasted, with the boots that double speed
Why not centaur?
no like, how does one not die from the g-force
You answered it here
Tabaxi Speed builds is how.
dnd should add g-force.
How could I forget
No, it should not.
Wait centaur is playable in 5e?? đ
Yupz
Has been for ages, yes.
dnd should also add physics.
Dang
dnd should become a earth simulation.
If you canât tell I donât play much 5e despite owning a lot of the sourcebooks
First published in Theros I believe, one of the few official MTG books.
Then again in Ravnica, and then once more in Monsters of the Multiverse.
Which reprinted many Species
Including all the ones from Witchlight which came out like, a month before it was released. Which I thought was funny.
Never picked up monsters of the multiverse because it committed the cardinal sin of taking away my kobold pack tactics
I liked MOrdy's Kobold more. Wasn't a fan of the Grovel, Cower, Beg nonsense.
I liked it, always fit my idea of D&D kobolds
I prefer my sapient Monsters to have more spine and culture.
And not all be inherent cowards.
Normally Iâd agree but kobolds being spineless cowards I make an exception for
Goblins are similar though I have always thought of them as tactically spineless as opposed to just being wimps
It already kinda has it tho
just... nothing cares about more than 1 G of gravity
i do like it when theres stuff wonky with gravity. general regional effects i love playing around with recently
It was 3.5e I believe but there was a spell that just flung your opponent into orbit, it doesnât kill him iirc heâs just trapped in orbit forever
Nail to the Sky
The Immortal special
or Sky Nail. i dont remember excact name, but if the ytshort is correct, its one of those
"where is he?!"
THERES A YT SHORT ABOUT IT?!?!?!
Whoâs making yt shorts about obscure epic level 3.5 spells
i dont recall the channel name either
i also dont know how to describe him as anything other than a less obnoxious, blonde dndshorts with less beard
Ooh itâs the one that talks about broken D&D builds and like talks to himself right?
True
that's could be a good five channels to be honest
Thereâs funny advice guy, Asian guy who gets rules wrong all the time, D&Dshorts, zacthebold, and the guy youâre talking about
The one who did DM advice is the og iirc and I actually like his long form content
asian guy kinda pisses me off sometimes, but his non dnd contant is kinda funny
The guy I'm thinking of is the "Oh woah hold on DM" guy who is by far the most annoying one I see
He gets stuff wrong on purpose for engagement bait I am sure
most of them do
Iâm thinking of DMsLair I think is his name
DnDShorts the bane of my dndxistence
Most of them either get rules wrong, or play the game in a way that feels unrealistic, or portray situations that on paper seem really bad, and that in actuality would be solved by saying "no"
Real
separate guy
Aigh
I hate his stuff so much
Heâs the only funny D&D shorts guy honestly
on another topic relating to dnd tubers though, dungeon dad has recently become my recent favorite with his monster of the wek vids. i wanna run his ash giants
and adamantine dragon
Iâve loved his stuff for a while
well that was the toughest fight my dnd party has had so far
also the orange and mithral
I love older edition monsters and Iâm glad they get some love
Warlock got mind controlled and oneshot artificer
i wanna run all the dragons
stayed mind controlled until an enemy used an attack that deals damage to cancel it
Fugg it entire party is dragons
level20dm is the guy I was thinking of
i cant find the list of dragons ive ru- oh its on my personal server
thank you
Absurd videos solely based on the premise of "What if the players never told the DM what they were doing, what if the DM never said no, and what if the DM started all of their games at level 10+ without looking at their players' character sheets
I have run maybe 4 dragons in my career and Iâve been DMing since I was 12
dragons and giants are my most run monsters
"What if everyone is the problem?!"
to the point one of my players is kinda sick of em lmao
I loooove giants
It truly seems like the least fun way to play a dnd game
Beasthead Giant Psionic my beloved
oh wait! i can add aurinax to the list now! one gold dragon
dammit i also forgot old smelter, a brass
I've got two* with only about a year of DMing
*I ran one but the players evaded combat with them
I need to make stat blocks... I have a good 5 stat blocks for generic guys i still need
I promised myself I wouldnât run a dragon themed game till I ran a Dragonlance campaign
Unfortunately my players have the Dark Sun and Greyhawk itch so thereâs no dragons for me in the near future
funnily enough, my dragonlance game has only seen one actual dragon (dragonnels dont count)
greyhawk is filled with dragons too me thought
Actually you're gonna get to add a whole new type of dragon to that on thursday
yeah, first gold
Depends on where you are I guess, they arenât uncommon but they arenât everywhere either
Aurinax yeah
Technically Dark Sun is the most likely to see a dragon since anyone who can cast arcane magic is a potential dragon lol
its funny, since waterdeep has a no dragon rule, so i cant even touch pseudodragons
im being forced to run humanoids and beholders dammit
Would someone partially turned into a dragon count or does the transformation have to be finished
Just have the dragon be underground
yeah, on thursday thats exactly what the waterdeep menaces are dealing with
Dark Souls Gaping Dragon moment in the Sewers.
I was thinking Dungeon of the Mad Mage but that works too
Since that is under Waterdeep
both are in waterdeep, so
Dragon shaped beholder
We lost a lot of fun beholders đ RIP beholder tree
funny you say that, cuz i wanna use an eyedrake now
we got some variants in motm. death kiss, gazer, to name a few
Dragon shaped humanoid
dragonflesh grafters got you covered. also half dragons, dragonborn, and dragonchosen. also metallic dragons and gem dragons
Dang no image perms
21 gun salute for the crab beholder, beholder man, fent beholder, spider beholder, and centipede beholder
the what beholder
Oh yeah the Beholder that eats magic items is one too
Which one are you referring to?
fent
Ah
Yeah theyâre actually in 5e, just the 2e spectator art makes them look like theyâre on hardcore drugs
pffft
Iâm serious
what's going on
OH. I know the art youre talking about!
lol
back when monsters were literally geometry
As a hexblade after you kill the person you hex cursed can you switch it to a different person or
I believe so
What does the Feature say? if it mentions it can swap, then it can swap, if it doesn't, then it don't.
Iâm stealing this
Ty
once per short or long rest
i died and went to hell but the person who owned my soul drags me out so now i have a cool demon form
selling my soul was the best decision i made in DND now i cant die
Eh same thing
not really
short rests are much easier to get off, you're probably taking tons as a warlock
The not so nice to demons Paladin:
i can get dragged out of hell if i die
the reason why i died is because i tried to do what Ness does in smash bros so i casted thundercast on myself to try to launch myself at the target and then failed and died
Im having an image of the paladin giving you a whole talk about how he would search you and take you down every time you came back. Like, idk if someone would catch it but like when yuji almost killed mahito in Jujutsu kaisen.
im a DND newcomer why do paladins hate demons?
Normally religious reasons, their divine smite do extra damage to fiends and undeads, so demons and zombies
ahh
Same could be said of cleric, but its more fitting for a Paladin being the one chasing down
my new demon form has lots of faces all over my body, These faces have the voice of the voices that talk to my head because yknow my character is canonically schizophrenic, (its not supposed to be edgy its supposed to be funny)
we have chuckles the clown talk to me sometimes
"Why all the people in the town is scared of me?" đ
funny thing is im actually the former mayor of a town that was destroyed and the townspeople (who are all dead) talk to me
i sold my soul to build a new town didnt know it came with the benefit of eternal life
Because Demons are Chaotic Evil, and do demonly things, like wanton slaughter, profane and unspeakable acts, and all the typical "Wow that's evil." behaviors.
The vast majority of sane beings hate demons.
Hard to like your Not So Local Serial Killer, don'tcha know.
There are a great many species of Devils, Demons, Yugaloths, and such.
And most people know better then to associate with them, or be in the same postal code as them. Because it rarely goes well.
Demons, famous backstabbers and prone to wanton slaughters the second they slip the leash. Devils, famous for making you really, really, really, really regret not reading the fine print, or thinking things through, or being desperate and stupid enough to bargain with them, prone to giving you long 'staycations' in the Hells.
Without multiclassing, what kinda melee weapons do you guys use on an Artillerist Artificer, 2014
some species have "tendencies", like orks to be aggressive or elfs being neutrals.
It kinda help to build up a personality or just know what you can expect when interacting with one
Not all Paladins hate Demons for the record
Anyone can be a Paladin, good or bad
As long as they stick to their oath (some of them swear oaths to more selfish/negative feelings and causes) and can justify it its safe
Usually the subclass has a pretty solid idea of what their oath is. The newest one kind of stretches that idea a bit because it's pretty vague, but it's mechanics look like a lot of fun at least.
My group killed there pet jambo and it was meant to be a big thing in the end what should I do
Pls help @me pls
@daring violet I mean the most straightforward way would probably be to switch gears towards some way to resurrect it.
Ight makes sense should I introduce a nice that can do that
Hey guys. I'm thinking of a high elf cantrip for a rogue. I'm considering firebolt (cause fiyahhhh) or minor illusion or mage hand
Okay
Well, firebolt doesn't work with sneak attack, but I could imagine a few situations where a rogue could make use of either of the other spells.
dang⌠goblins in 2024 now get sneak attack
Are you talking about Fury of the Small?
no, the monsters just have sneak attack now
I might actually be able to get in an in-person game, finally! Itâs been quite a while since I was able to schedule an online game, and even longer since Iâve had a game irl
Ah
Minor Illusion is nice
Alternatively consider Ray of Frost
Last one standing wins?
the old rules were super wonky when it came to leveled spells
where should I go to find help on this google sheets player sheet ive been working on? I need thoughts and reccomendations
Where on their statblock dies it mention they get sneak attack?
under the attack
Oh damn, never noticed
Yeah its technically not sneak attack, but extra dmg on adv
extra damage on adv aint sneak attack its just extra damage
thats been a thing since before 24
Say, "Hey, can anyone give me some thoughts and recommendations on this character sheet I've been working on? Here's the link: " and fill in the blank.
#character-discussion would be where to put it
I read it as a character sheet for players to use for recording their details rather than an individual character like Robbie the Ranger.
Oh fair
I wonder if you can technically make mario in dnd
A human fighter?
You still need his powerups like the fireflower
A wizard combined with fighter considering mario uses a hammer in some spinoffs
Eldritch knight fighter
Id say unarmed runeknight with magic items
Big mario is iconic
Take magic initiate to get firebolt
How would you get the star power up..
I dont know what that really is
Globe of invulnerability
Wait why not the barbarian big class
Too stupid
Mario throws things a lot
And ray of frost for ice flower that he uses in new super mario wii
Yeah but certain people can just enter the globe via teleporting then your not so invulnerable
Yeah but its basically the closest to being unkillable as possible
Could also multiclass into druid with all the animals suit power ups he has
Invulnerability punching the air rn
I didnt know that was a thing lol
So you technically can make mario
what's the best way to earn money? I'm an artificer and to get item infusions I need a blueprint which costs half of the cost of the actual item and they're like worth thousands and was wondering if there was a more efficient way than just selling random loot
Thats a massive house rule nerf to Artificer btw
yeahh I think it was to prevent me from being too hitty since it's my first time being an artificer and we all start at level 1 or something like that
all's well and everyone's having fun tho so, the only thing in my mind rn is how to get more money lol, I chose alchemy jug, bag of holding, and sending stones as my first item infusions and am planning on getting alchemy jug first
Well artificer is balanced without any nerfs so thatâs like preventing a rogue from using sneak attacks
I guess if you have an alchemy jug, you could start selling the stuff it produces
Is divination magic just predicting the future?
No
What else is it?
Any form of information gathering really
Thanks for explaining! Are there any good early game divination spells?
Detect Magic, See Invisibility, Tongues
Oki, thanks!
Tongues
it's also pretty expensive so I'm just scraping gold now, last session I sheared the farmer's 10 sheep some wolves killed and got me like 100 gold đĽ˛
I was just wondering if there were any other ways
Thatâs something only your DM can answer
Possibly offering spellcasting as service maybe?
Outside of exploits no, unless your DM or campaign allows it
oh so it's okay to ask them abt any other ways to earn money?
Iâm legit working a job in my Sunday campaign for 8 copper a day
thought it would count as metagame
man I earned 20 gold per 1 sweater's worth of wool
ooh yeah a mending service?
Its not metagaming to ask dm stuff
I low-key enjoy it through just cause Iâm a silly af character in this super serious campaign
You can advertise it or look around in game, Iâd imagine, but it shouldnât be
It is metagaming if you search up the campaign you're playing in and search for ways to make money
it's not a set thingy so like
It's okay to ask the DM, out of game, of ways your character can make money in game and that your character would know about. Nothing wrong asking also how the DM wants to handle in-game economics.
my party claims I'm greedy and capitalistic (I really need every gold I can get)
Creation -> Fabricate with smith's tools?
Either its griefing your team or take a stance to be greedy, I think its clear which one they prefer
dnd is getting too real, they getting minimum wage jobs now
elaborate?
I'd still check with the DM (and possibly the group) as turning the game into a microeconomics adventure may not be what the group finds fun or wants to engage in.
I've offered my team some gold help but I've just never gone out of my way to spoil them lolol
I also take my fairy teammate's fairy dust :â
icicic I'll do just that! thank y'all very much
2 casters circle cast Creation to create a 5ft cube of iron then you cast fabricate with smith's tools proficiency to print Plate armour (doesn't say what counts as "raw material")
we're at level 3 rn so lol
This is true
ah darn, then keep this one in mind once you get to around Lvl 8-9
ALSO I'VE BEEN WANTING TO ASK
how dangerous is it for me to ask for a cursed sentient armor
will do!! thank you so much!
Mildly annoying to straight up deadly depending on the curse
uhh idk the curse but I wanted the armor to be like venom I thought it'd be fun roleplay wise but uhhh
That's like tantamount to letting your DM to mess with your character, I say don't do it (avoiding deals with the devil type thing)
we've made a blood pack with a devil first session đĽ
Maybe it screams "Six Seven" whenever those numbers come up? Sounds like a balanced curse
LMAO there's a character in my party who freezes up whenever they hear six seven
That would get old fast
wait, if its specifically symbiotes, the armour would have a vulnerability to fire and thunder damage one of which are the most common damage types đ
I mean fire maybe thunder definitely
dm said in exchange for curse the armor has a special something (which idk what, I think I can pick), I wanted to create the armor by combining it with organic materials and shtuff so like
Yes. It would be very annoying and destroy any reliability of stealth
is there a such thing as a greatbow ?
Fire and thunder are both venoms biggest weaknesses
whenever it screams "Six Seven", everyone that can hear it within 30ft radius must make an intelligence dc 16 saving throw or take 2d8 psychic damage and be befuddled for a minute
Yea
Itâs a specific weapon called over sized long bow you have to be a medium creature to use it and it does 2d6+ your strength mod rather then dex
What's the source?
Water deep dragon heist
Ngl using strength for ranged weapons, at least bows, makes more sense
Itâs still kinda stupid because still need dex for the âto hitâ
Oh fr? That's dum dum
I'd homebrew it to use purely strength
Yeah and you need I think at minimum 18 strength to use it
that's pretty cool though, long range maul lol
The bow requires 18 Str and a size of Medium or larger to wield
It deals piercing damage equal to 2d6 + the wielder's Str modifier
Note that it would still require a Ranged attack roll (with Dex) to hit.
Pathfinder, pssh. D&D for nerds! /hj
It is i would just make the small change that is uses all strength rather then dex and strength
Like needing to have an 18 in strength already makes it pretty crazy stat wise
I'm testing a homebrew statblock tomorrow and making one of my players a sheet for it- battlemaster fighter, has a 16 in strength and a 17 in dex before any ASI's or feats
if you could pick, have every weapon it latches onto into an oversized weapon but reduces your movement speed the larger it gets (up to gargantuan)
gargantuan +1 longbow :))))))))
OOHHHH
An over sized weapon variant of weapons would be cool ngl
Lemme be guts fr
Thatâs the true fantasy
Does it work with sneak attack?
what's the best magic weapon in the game and why is it the Dragon's Wrath Weapon
4d8 with a gargantuan longbow :))))))
How much would an oversized great sword do..
No that's just a spell, but it does have a chance to slow the enemy
You won't be using spells for damage anyways so utility is nice
I'd go for the utility, yeah.
Hmm. True. Maybe I'll go minor illusion
(And firebolt for the future)
Arcane trickster subclass
Is mind sliver decent as the only damaging cantrip?
Cuz you can just sneak attack with a bow
Probably not, you ideally want two cantrips that use attack rolls/saving throws respectively
May I suggest booming blade if you have it?
Green flame blade is a good sword cantrip too iirc
I like booming blade on rogues
A bit worse than Booming but it works
Get in, hit them, disengage, get out. And they can't move
Even better on a swashbuckler
Its funny, the more I deep dive into the maths behind Swash the more I realize how middling it is and that it was weirdly overhyped
Rule 1 of successful illusionists is to chat with your DM first. Come up with three or four ideas, agree how they might work.
It's so disheartening to make a dangerous magical forcefield and have the enemy run through it, or to camouflage yourself among nature and eat an arrow because who doesn't count how many rocks and tree stumps are around them at all times?
The opposite of how Rangers are treated
It has fun flavour
But flavoring is free
It gives abilities that add to the flavour
Its still v much free
Part of Swashbuckler is the mobility. You can't put a DPR value on being able to reach the altar in time to save the world!
Wait doesn't Arcane Trickster/Soulknife have more mobility on that front
What subclass would you use if you wanted to play a highly mobile dual wielding/rapier using duelist?
Duelist as in 1 on 1 fighting character
i dig this ngl
Because booming blade?
Not necessarily any Rogue has that burst damage give or take
I don't
But Arcane Trickster does have Booming Blade + Misty Step + Invisibility etc etc
I like prestidigitation too
Presti is the best. I.
that would genuinely be crazy
Does Rogue really wanna waste precious spell slots on prestidigitation
Like its great but Rogue spell slots are so strapped
It's a cantrip.
gets crazier if your DM allows firearms but im gonna assume they dont
Ig the spellcasting subclass would be better. Though if you don't want to resort to spells, swashbuckler would probably be the best at it's job or at least one of the best
Oh I was mentioning High elf cantrip (booming blade isn't one) I'm still lvl 1, haven't subclassed yet.
I have a 1d8 pistol as a starting item lol
I'm a rogue
High Elf cantrips are taken off the Wizard's cantrip list
It's not in the core books iirc so might be unavalible on dnd beyond if that's what they use
Oh... must be a roll20 issue then
Or rather not in the phb
Arcane Trickster itself has Booming Blade too but if you're meleeing you can grab from High Elf, no need to wait
Is there any official rule that says npcs notice when a spell is being cast? I mean I know with somatic and verbal components it makes sense but does it say they will notice or have a chance to notice in the rules?
By RAW not necessarily no
Booming blade isnât free basic rules or PHB iirc, that could be why
Its just that magic isn't exactly quiet unless you use subtle spell metamagic
Yup. I'm using free basic rules to create the character
AWESOME, i hope that you'll get stuff like Laser Pistols/Rifles later on
And there's presumably visual magical effects on use too
I hope so too! I'll be trying to make my own guns soon boutta invent the revolver
do you guys allow them a chance to roll to hide a cast or do you just say no it is noticed if its verbal/somatic?
Couldâve sworn it was from Tashaâs
Oh nvm
Not usually, no
Thatâs what subtle spell is for
You have to say it loud enough for the weave to notice
I went with minor illusion with Ray of frost for later levels/subclassing
Considered mage hand but my sleight of hand is decent
i make them roll sleight of hand if they use mage hand for anything tricky so the two can be pared if thats how the DM does it
The gith are such an underrated race
depends on the spell
A laser pistol has 3d6 base damage die (radiant), if gargantuan it'll be 12d6 (it'd be funny if ur revolver is like 2d8 cuz then it'll be 8d8 as a gargantuan weapon)
that thingy and every time I wear the armor I need to const saving throw first
I actually do a sleight of Hand (int) roll because I like when I can mix in no standard attributes with proficiencies
True.
I'm sorry... laser pistol?
yesss (pick up Resilient: Con tho)
Dnd stuff
Yuh its a thing
feat?
Futuristic tab
Yes
yes if you wanna consistently use the armour's benefits
I thought d&D was like idk old epic fantasy sorta
yeah it's awesome besides being the only person in my party with firearm proficiency
I'm new though. Mostly
Have you not see spell jammers?
gotcha gotcha, now I'm just waiting for when my dm introduces it
nahh depends on the setting, spell jammers def canon tho
Usually laser pistols arenât in an average dnd game, but some games use them.
Oh oh like a homebrew sorta?
More like an optional rule
no, its an optional rule
also for my other proficiency for artisan's tool I picked alchemist supplies is that ight or were there better choices
Neat tbh
Got it!
its hard to balance high tech weapons. You expect them to be more powerful than more primitive weapons (at least non-magical ones)
Wdym âprimitiveâ
ammunition is a pain though
swords
repeating shot
Swords are primitive?
Do we still use them in our military?
Us no other militaryâs yes
really?
Ohh yeah that works too
I don't get the property of repeating shot to remove loading, does that mean there are other weapons that requires you to spend an action loading it up again?
Hellooo, just joined, only found out there was an official server for DnD so thought I might aswell come
Usually you can only shoot once per action/bonus action if you lack Loading
Primitive aka the Stone Age was 2.5 million years ago the first swords were made in the early Bronze Age
ok
Loading means you can make only 1 attack with that weapon no matter how many extra attacks you have
You created that definition by the way. "relating to, denoting, or preserving the character of an early stage in the evolutionary or historical development of something.
"primitive mammals" according to the dictionary
Yes - crossbows and firearms have the loading property, which as others have stated means you can only make one attack with that weapon per attack action.
Any ideas for your illusions? (#dnd-discussion message)
Yeah but dnd characters ainât primitive through
Muskets and pistols let's go
I said swords are more primitive than lasers. I stand by thart
Most campaigns at minimum have black powder
so if I enchant my pistol with a repeating shot how many attacks would I be able to make
smoke powder :c
As many attacks as you get normally
as many as you can normally make when you take the attack action
Wait what
Do you mean a revolver or a pistol?
Because those are different weapons that have different rules
Revolvers have reloading
Meaning they can make 6 shots before needing to be reloaded
also for my other proficiency for artisan's tool I picked alchemist supplies is that ight or were there better choices
I js gave like a revolver as an example mb I have a pistol rn but idg the loading thing
cuz I can only do one attack which is my standard action no?
Loading property forbids multiple attacks in one turn using that weapon
Getting rid of that just lifts the barrier. It doesnt grant extra shots
Correct. It's most useful for multiclasses which get extra attack, and battlesmiths/armorers who get extra attack as a part of their subclass
Renaissance area weapons have reloading: pistol musket (thereâs a 3rd but I forgot the name
Modern weapons have reloading: revolvers automatic rifles etc etc
good thing I took armorer then
They have a Gunslinger class on D&D beyond. I got it but havent had a chance to try it yet.
Thatâs 3rd party and itâs kinda meh
So at level 5 you'll be able to make 2 attacks per turn. Normally, only one of those can be with your pistol, but if you enchant it with repeating shot, you can use a pistol for both attacks.
wharrabout this one cuz I took alchemist thinking I couuld make pots but turns out only herbalist can
Repeating pistols just mean you dont need to load between each shot, letting you use features like extra attack
I don't have any ideas beyond walls to mask presence and sounds of screaming as a distraction
okay that makes more sense
Aquables please do not read this because it'll only confuse you more.
Okay so technically not true, you can still make more attacks, it just can't be with that weapon.
Right
icicic, thank y'all for the clear up!
Mind the maximum size of the spell for your visual illusions. A dungeon hallway is easily ten feet wide and high!
(For example, a gun monk choosing to shoot and punch with extra attack even though they donât have loading)
are the scions the biggest creatures in dnd 5e?
the exact situation I was thinking of
I wonder whyâŚ/lhj
Thank you!
i still think its silly that in VTOS that the submachine gun has the light prop meaning it can be used with a bonus action if you build for that sort of thing
Realest question of all time, you get to be one character irl using 2024 rules and expanded 2024/2014 rules at lvl 3, what levels/subclass are you taking and why
Feel free to specify if theres something thats specifically useful to you as well
Its just an inflexible poor man's Battle Master btw
Just like the subclass
Level 3 divination wizard variant human with the keen mind feat.
Portent is just extremely convenient to have, spells are always gonna be useful (looking at you, mending) and keen mindâs memory is gonna be helpful for a student
Plus good intelligence is nice
Paladin immune to disease and at level 3 you get to cure 3 diseases a day sounds pretty cool
Good pick
Druid 2014 I can become animals Iâve seen and if Iâm moon Druid I can become stuff like bears and stuff
Not to mention the spells
Oath of redemption gives you a 'become more social' channel divinity
For 10 minutes you become more persuasive lol
We cancelled our dnd campaign after 3 months of waiting :< i expected it, I dont think Ill ever play it tbh
Properly *
Oof I hope you find a campaign soon
Tbh if its 3 months isn't it practically disbanded by that point
Shame it had to be official though
Variant human doesnt exist in 2024 rules
Ngl would be a goated dr for common colds etc
What even is a variant human
it's just default human now. old default human was a meme
Its a 2014 expanded rules version of human that made all other versions of human bad because it was that much better (it was better because it gave you a free feat at creation)
other versions? you mean the one?
That dosent sound balanced
Marks included
It wasn't, I ended up just balancing it by making it so every race/species gained a free feat at creation excluding those that already gained a free feat like variant human
Or just banning it outright
That and custom lineages
Common cold? Nah we curing the big stuff
Cool in theory but not so cool when you have a massive power imbalance
Oh tru tru, could have used you back in 2020 ngl
With this change you dont even need to ban them, thats like the one thing humans get
2014 v human has
2 ability scores +1, worse then i think all species who get +2 +1
1 skill proficiency, where most species get one anyways
A feat, which now everyone else has
Noone that doesnt wanna play human for the roleplay aspect would pick human species if everyone gets a feat
helps out martials a ton tho, saves up 1 feat tax
The entire point was that human gets a feat over everyone else. Back in 3.5 lv1 feats was a default rule and human just got two. It was their versatility bonus. Which should have stayed the case in 5e but for some reason feats were regarded as a variant rule originally and nobody got them at lv1
Thats the whole point, giving people the option rather than having there be one blaring stronger than almost everything else in 75% of scenarios
Otherwise all the games that I ran were just 5 humans and one goblin because a person that thought goblins were funny
Dragonmarked Humans are pretty strong on their own, its just regular PHB human being a meme of a race
Variant Human is ofc one of the strongest versions of Human that being said
Once I added the rule there were still 1-3 humans but generally more races/species
If everyone gets a feat and human gets one extra then itâs much less of a power imbalance. And 2024 proved that already by making that the case even if origin and asi feats are now different
Dragonmarked Humans are a nice middle ground
I definitely prefer the 2024 approach to humans
Makes them viable without being too strong that they almost need to be taken
Quick question
We weren't planning anything, we just mentioned wanting to do it plus who was the dm and that we would do a night session where we introduced the world
There is also a chance she just didnt wanna say the others didn't want to include me
Mark of Making Humans may have been the most balanced version of a Human even if it doesn't feel Human like
When a perk or an ability activates on rolling a 20 for attack rolls, would it also activate on situations that result in a critical hit?
No, the two are mechanically distinct.
Eg. Assassin, paralyzed targets, or the champion subclass
Rolling a 20 is different to rolling a crit
Crits are only a thing in combat
Ah. That's unfortunate
The wording would have to be general like "critically hit"
BG3 has confused so many people I swear
It happens
Nah, this was not from BG3
Also bg3 does a good job of teaching most things
This was from 2024's Irresistible Offense
Its the minor differences that trip people up
That's sort of beside what we're talking about, but it's true in a fashion.
Also, I'd say the biggest thing that annoys me in BG3 is that there are very few mods for the Gunslinger class
Most do it terribly, the one exception is an all in one mod that gives quite a bit, but takes away a lot too
My only gripe is the modder who made the berserk mods has yet to port them to console (kidding though I really hope they do)
The all in one mod is pretty nice
It's because adding guns requires some creative reuse of existing animations and new assets
Modding is hard work
Modding itself is hard work
let alone adding in new weapon types and full class features
No, they do have several mods for firearms
In fact, more than the class itself
It's half and half for me... the bad half is that they also neutered Short Rests and Wizard subclasses. Both range from less useful to genuinely meaningless
I don't think the all in one Fighter mod changes short rests
And Wizard still doesn't have an all in one pack
Not for a specific class. The mod in question is 2024 PHB AIO
Mostly cuz the dunamancy subclasses and spells are its own
Oh right nvm, of course 2024 mods would leave out stuff
I would assume the gunslinger class interacts with guns in some way, and therefore it'd need to include guns in its own mod - you can't really easily piggyback off of other mods. It also needs to include a full class, and subclasses, which I am assuming is quite full on.
The thing is, you do have the option to use hit die to recover HP, but does so without needing to use a short rest
Meaning that it's only really useful for restoring abilities and whatnot
As for wizard subclasses, they all give nothing with the mod. No cheaper/free spell learning, no special side grade like portent die, nothing
I'd just use the Artificer mod for guns tbf
Another thing
They do have a mod that uses the class and most subclasses of it well. My annoyance is that it's part of the AIO instead of an option as a standalone mod
Was Gunslinger changed in 2024 again
Cuz you can just stick to the 2014 ver now that I think about it
It's a bit tricky, but the free Beyond book is what they had for this mod
i think i'm gonna see about posting an ad for my in person game... gotta be players in my area on here
maybe but goodluck finding them
just make sure to follow the rules when mentioning the location
seeing as all the rules allow is "Exact location (an approximate location like country, continent, or time zone is fine)."
we've already got like 15 players, but wanna keep it growing.
nah, 3 tables
1 dm 14 players, now that seems like a punishment worthy of dm hell
perfect group sizes
for one period of time i ran 14 players in a game
i split them into smaller groups so it was like running 3ish parties
one round of combat has gotta take like half an hour đ
it was text based, so a round of combat took years. (i kid but it was long)
that seems worse timewise tbh
yeh smart move splitting that up, that many players isnt fun for anyone
i don't run anything more than 8 players these days (and 8 players is an extreme outlier)
my current dm (and friend) has set his limit at 6
and even then i still prefer less people
my usual table is 6 players
had a session where 2 people canceled and 4 just felt so much better
Just had a science lesson about relativity and space-time- I just had an excellent idea for my chronurgy wizard.
My combats are balanced for 5 or 6
my combats are flexible to balance for however many show up for my table
just take a goblin or 2 away when someone cancels
more or less
it really depends. if you have a party of all casters you wouldn't drop something that's immune to magic
I would at some point
it depends. i'd probably do that to showcase some environmental solutions
i would 100% drop a rakshasa at some point
It'd also be an interesting challenge
throwing something immune to magic at an all caster party is evil, love it
on my group of level 1 casters? no probably not.
on my group of oh... let's say 8+? yeah, probably might
the wizard trying to figure out how to hold a dagger for the first time in his life
Simple weapon, he has prof
drops it on his own foot then dies
How would anyone damage it though
You smack it
im assuming your character has a weapon back up
open a pit below it? cast fireball on a ledge above that looses some boulders?
or that
If it's something that the party is meant to run from to advance the plot, or maybe a way to introduce a martial ally NPC, it's okay. If it's just torturing your party that's a red flag
torturing =/= challenging
grease to make it slip into that pit, and then rocks fall on it?
illusions to make it think something else is there.
all kinds of things that don't directly target it with magic
casters are very powerful already, adding something where they have to think beyond their spells is not evil imo
Its a fun challenge
creating an encounter thats just running way and Darth Vader chase sequences, or trying to run away from or avoid a powerful enemy is not a red flag
again, i'd be setting up an encounter that's more like a "puzzle" with environmental solutions
Have someone rig a trap using magic (the trap doesn't use magic to trap or damage) and use illusions to lead the enemy into it
this would just be similar to a tyrant chase from resident evil, like Mr X or Nemesis
Good analogy
"STARS!!"
but if you're dropping your party in a white box with a magic immune enemy against a party of casters?
yeah that's not designed to be fun or engaging
Yeah, stuff that's meant to be a solvable puzzle is okay, stuff that's pre-planned to have plot reasons for survivability is ok. What I meant is that if you just throw an impossible encounter, like a magic immune enemy at a team of casters, with no planning just to see how it plays out, that's not good
I doubt my party will keep shitting on my villain now that he possessed someone and attacked them with mind control units. I definitely made him seem more of a threat, which is good.
tbf most 'white box' fights arent very engaging
i dont ever think that was what people were saying at all
but it's good short hand to describe that kind of encounter
Jokes aside, let's Vortex Warp the stone floor onto the monster.
party was underestimating your baddie?
warp requires willing
Whitebox encounters aren't something I'd ever consider running. The very idea of a whitebox encounter is that it is devoid of context, scenery, goals, or stakes.
There's a con save for unwilling creatures
oh ye
You do need to warp a creature not an object
Kept calling him a coward and words I guess I can't say on this server. Because he "hid behind" possessions and refused to face the party with his real body.
sounds like you've got a lot of player buy in!
except maybe the words you cant say here that sounds like a party trying to coax out your bbeg
I awaken
Hello, friends
they do seem invested. Even more after I had him show up and knock multiple party members with his minions.
morning
They still won of course
create water into shape water. no, the 5x5x5 ice cube I'm about to drop on the boss is technically not magical.
gonna say... no
lol its mostly out of character, but they could be trying to get him to be angry enough he does something stupid.
create water needs a container you make the water in or let it fall as rain
in or out of character, the fact your players are acting like what he's doing is "real" shows their level of buy in
but i do think it would be funny
i'd probably allow a pair of casters who worked it out with 1 having a readied action to immediately trigger when the cube is created.
Unfortunately you can't cast two spells at the same time. Create water would resolve, the water would fall, and then you can turn the puddle into ice.
Unless yeah, this is done in some sense
if my party is working out tactics between them? i want to encourage that and reward it as much as possible
That's true. I guess he's angered them by constantly possessing civilians to talk his garbage lol.
For sure. Although to me, where it can start to fall flat is once you start using that combination in every fight, and it gets boring/stale.
I can monologue without risk of having the villain die forever, which is great.
I've decided that if Artanza dies, I'm replacing him with a Noble from the family Imos keeps robbing /joking
the menaces are gonna one by one getting replaced with nobles
I want to motivate them to track down this guy, find his real body
yes. but you can certainly stage fights so it's not a viable solution. but every now and again throw them a bone
That's why I keep having him show up and insult and attack them haha
I think I like our suave sewer dwellers, tbh
there can be a point where the players just need satisfaction, but it sounds like they're getting towards it
oh right, i need to add in the cassalanters
I have no idea who I'd play as a backup
I'm actually replacing one of my characters with a Noble fella soon!
It's a character that doesn't have much reason to adventure anymore, so, I figured, I'd have him replaced with someone who might initially be at odds with that group
i guess I just plan on not dying
I dunno, Dungeon of the Mad Mage is gonna be... something
hehehehe
ti moth stop laughing please
hahahahahaha
heehee
tokii help theyre intimidating me
HAHAHAHA- coughing fits
Ti, get jiggy with it
yeah I think this was the worst (best?) encounter they had with him yet. It was the first proper fight, and they barely managed to beat him. A wild magic surge letting them cast fourth level magic missile came in clutch.
I was fully prepared to just have them get captured again
Hello chat. New player here
Intimidate them back
welcome

Welcome.. to your DOOM!!!
Thanks for joining the community đĽ
Doom?!
My friend always yapping about her DnD world. I'm interested so I join this server immediately. Hope you're guys be nice to me
Me when I name the lieutenant of my BBEG "The Scoundrel" in another language
DOOM!!!
The wumpler
DOoM đ
I love to yap about my DND world as well, I think everyone who has one made loves to yap about it lol. So they all join up here and yap together.
i subjected one of my friends to 2 hours of history about my homebrew world the other week lol. she was surpisingly interested
Run OG tomb of horrors instead
uhg
Me every time I sit to have a beer with my best friend
I'm not running the game lol.
Ask your DM to run OG tomb of horrors no changes
Doesn't interest me
"the skull that just kills you"
The door that makes you trans and disrobes you
Warlock made ANOTHER pact, this time with the overarching villain of the campaign. Two voices in that head.
Feels like thereâs be some contractual discrepancies
Mad Mage isn't too bad for that. Items that could only be more obviously cursed if they had a big flashing sign saying "attuning to this is a bad idea" are the ones to look out for.
Weâre making jokes about Tomb of horrors
I'm talking about the demilich at the end that has an ability to immediately kill you if it has line of sight
If we're on about the same thing
The wooden doors painted to look like adamantine
power word kill? just be above 100hp, easy
It's a special ability that just rends your soul, literally nothing else in the game has it. I'll try find the description
thats even more fun then
Wild thing to just pull out
Eh, at that point the party probably has resurrection stuff on hand.
10th level party
casts disintigrate afterwards
Without a soul are you not severely limited in what resurrection works?
1st level party at the end of DotMM, ah interesting
Wish spell and divine intervention
Chat, what do I do when my DM tells me "you can certainly try" when I ask to try something unorthodox? Do I double down?
yes, always
youre gonna miserably fail 95% of the time but its probably gonna be funny
Up to the situation
Paraphrasing but it's a dc19 charisma saving throw or have your soul absorbed by the skull, your body and equipment cease to exist, and if you aren't resurrected within 24 hours your soul is completely consumed.
On a save, you take 7d6 necrotic damage
The âyou can certainly tryâ is a warning after all, youd be a fool not to at least be hesitant
But they say the best adventurers are foolsâŚ.
"You can certainly try" is a hint to your players that whatever outcome will be really hilarious and you should totally do it
you can certainly try is a trick by dm's trying to keep you away from the secret ending. dont fall for it
But what if I want to 100% the campaign? I gotta get all endings!
One of my DMs actually does run achievements in his game, meaning we can technically 100% d&d
Every 1 point of DC equates to a percent chance so if you double down and the DM raises the DC even higher youâre just worsening your chances. Itâs really up to you
are all achievements know or are there secret ones?
There's a selection of both
I lowkey would make an achievement if I did DM of a player silvery barbs their own advantage roll, and still pass.
youll never find all secret achievements on your first play trough, gotta play the campaigns a couple of time for the platinum badge
