The point being that physics just doesn't work in setting. Because it all basically run on the will of the gods. If Gond can just will that gunpowder's physical properties no longer work, then fundamentally you cannot build something like a nuke based on physical properties.
And I like to think that the orb is basically Meteor Strike level strong
That’s an entire portion of concentrated pure magic
^^^
Closest thing to a nuke ig
That’s what I was saying making a new is pretty impossible also why would you need to when magic exist
Also, no it isn't, it's just a matter of scale. Enough gunpowder and you can definitely level a city.
Meteor swarm
40-foot-radius sphere A creature takes 20d6 fire damage and 20d6 bludgeoning on a failed save
That’s nowhere near city level
That’s more gunpowder that you can physically carry
scroll of the comet
Huh that is smaller than I imagined
thats just a big final fantasy 7 meteor
That’s what I was trying say it’s not really city level
And?
I mean, with enough bag of holdings...
Only spell that can possibly use to level a city is ravenous void
Circle Casting throws all of these out the window.
That's the affected area, though. I'd like to think that the meteor is at least 1 ft³
I mean, a 3rd level fireball is a 20 foot radius, and we are all well accustomed to the damage it deal to people and terrain alike
(What a weird turn of convo this has been for the record)
How much gunpowder would it take to level a city, and can a single person buffed to the limit + enough bags of holding carry enough gunpowder to accomplish this?
No you cannot create a nuke in either edition of 5e
Hiroshima was roughly (I believe) 13 thousand feet of total effect?
Meteor storm covers a tiny portion of that
Why are we limiting this to something a single person could carry?
We’re being realistic..?
First mistake
Cuz I thought the convo was focused on how much a single person can do at a time
are you gonna hire a bunch of npcs to carry a bunch of gun powder for you
Just use simulacrums lol
How would you obtain that much gunpowder anyhow
Also, even irl a nuke was the work of lots of people, carried by vehicles.
There is actually a handy measurement that already exists for determining how much explosive material destroys how much. It is the kiloton, which is the approximate explosive force of a thousand tons (2,000,000 pounds) of TNT, used for classifying nuclear explosive potential.
What's a godexit?
But we’re trying to carry 2 million pounds worth of weight
On the low end
No, we're not?
Waterdeep is about 3 miles I believe
That’s around how much gun powder you’d need to level a city
This is very far from the question of "is a nuke in D&D possible?"
The tldr is that, for Genie Warlocks, you can have any item as your vessel as per RAW, and you'd pick Ring of Three Wishes
Then you just exploit the wishes to essentially get anything you want as if you turned on cheat codes in a video game
Hmmm... not sure about an entire city. But a castle, I'd be willing to wager
Heard of a story where a paladin was stockpiling up barrels of gunpowder for who knows what reason. Long story short, claimed each barrel was akin to a fireball, tried to kill a party member, party member lured paladin into armory with barrels, blew up most of the castle by lighting barrels on fire
Other player got out unscathed thanks to Chromatic Warding
We’ve been over dnd nuke isn’t possible
isnt that the kind of rules jumping to conclusion stuff that gets you stuff like "uhh yeah cannons are totally a weapon totally, so obviously you could totally shoot it using true strike as an action to do 8d10 damage every turn"
Any non magical item*
We weren't trying to figure out the logistics we were just trying to figure out sheer possibility, but if you need logistics, imagine every building in Waterdeep having it's basement filled with barrels of gunpowder.
That’s a lot more then 2 million then
And enough to level the city, thus possible.
Might even graze the Undermountain
Text does not specify it has to be non magical, which is why house rules should ban godexits on sight should anyone think of pulling it off
1 Oil lamp
2 Urn
3 Ring with a compartment
4 Stoppered bottle
5 Hollow statuette
Can someone explain to me what a godexit is?
It literally states what items can be your lamp
Hello, friends
It does just say “any item”
Then again. We also know that gunpowder doesn’t light in Faerun
Worth noting those are examples and not explicit options
So Waterdeep would be fine.
not even house rules really, just a GM expectation that a player isnt gonna be trying dumb chicanery like that
You decide what the object is, or you can determine what it is randomly by rolling on the Genie's Vessel table.
The first version of gunpowder doesn't work, but there is another one.
Where does it say the object can be just any item
Why are we trying to blow up Waterdeep anyway, Its a cool city
Nowhere, but it didn't say its restricted to anything either
Spellpowder I believe is the name
Its silly unintended wordplay
Yeah Drizzt fought dudes who used it in his pirate life book
But for giggles, godexit is a real exploit
Debating if nuclear physics in dnd is possible
yeah its just a really big conclusion to jump to that no reasonable player would actually try and play
What does that word mean?
“The feature states the vessel is an "oil lamp, urn, ring, stopper, bottle, or similar item," and it functions as a, primarily, personal sanctuary.”
By doing this exploit, you're metaphorically exiting the realm of common sense in the campaign as a god is my take on it
Waterdeep, is, frankly, a Crap Hole 💀
It's like one of the worst cities on the Material plane
the vessel is intended to be a flavorful, mundane starting item.
as godexit stuff goes, the genie thing ticks me off less than stuff like,
the prismatic lasagna, that just actually is false and dumb
Didn't see those words mentioned in the sourcebook, are they paraphrased
I feel like if you told a dm you wanted to do this they’d just say no
"Godexit" = ???
Starting with the ring of 3 wishes at level 1
What with the Zhentarim and Xanathars Guild running around, I wouldn't want to live in Waterdeep
yeah its one of those things in the realm of thought experiments than it is in actually playing the game
Yeah its definitely bannable lol, just trivia to know and to stop people from pulling it off
Alright you get the ring but it doesn’t have any of its power
I'm old and don't catch on to new words very quickly, so I don't understand what "godexit" means.
I explained
You get the Ring of three wishes (heavily used)
Raw legit prevents that sort of thing
Oh wait nvm there's an actual explanation by the author
There you go
Is this a response to me? Please ping me if so.
Oi, Ophid, don't call yourself old >->
Because I also don't understand lol
“X tech is so powerful, you outpace God” or otherwise are removed from, become, or eat God.
Wish isn’t actually that power in the new edition
An explanation to what a godexit is, not that I found your paraphrased quote cuz I literally can't see it in a sourcebook
Nah. The vessel has specific stats that do not match any magic items
So a "godexit" is an exploit the relies on a bad faith reading of the rules?
Wish can still be denied by Deities
I think there can def be space for giggle at unintended RAW shenanigans. Be it elephants leaping 9ft up, or some of the even sillier 3.5 rule interactions. One of my favourites was a feat that exploded on either rolling a 1 on the dice/ rolling max damage on a dice, so you'd just keep rolling.
Shurikens specifically dealt 1d1 damage.
Like a tonberry stab.
Now of course these things are very silly and so no DM would let it happen in a game, but it is fun to find those strange Rules.
More or less, its dumb fun but hey helps with thought experiments
Wish is the strongest spell that a DEITY (Mystra) allows a mortal to have
i feel like that one godexit blog was made to tick me off and it drives me nuts thinking about it
Raw and rai just don’t allow that sort of thing but ok
Have you been responding to me all along without pinging me? Wooo I'm gonna tell you, I've probably missed a lot of your responses to me.
i dont know when or why rules exploit stuff like this gets me going but it does
The bum sealed away access to spells that'd put Mortals on par with deities or more powerful
Because a mortal killed a god in an early edition duh
They feel like the speedrun shenanigans of a video game.
Is the game meant to be played like that and was that an intentional rule? Nope.
Is it unintentionally hilarious to exploit them/theorise them in a hypothetical/non serious situation? Sure can be.
If you were a god you’d also lock away spells that threatened your power
But I am legit old.
Yeah.
That's why wish doesn't put you on par with Gods, it's something a divine intervention can actively dismiss
Divine’s your intervention
Not my intervention..!
Probably because a lot of them (like the genie vessel magic item thing) say they rely on the rules but are not actually based on the rules at all
RAW allows it in theory but no one would seriously entertain it unless its to mess around as a group
This has to be the stupidest thing ever
It was just the explanation of a godexit + that so you didn't miss too much
Wait till you hear about infinite AC Beast Barb
Fireball
Honestly at that point I think the Barb has succeeded in taking the piss if a fireball is forced to address it
who would win infinite ac or 1 hold person
the one that ticks me off the most is the "prismatic wall fills a space so you can totally fill a container with it and bring it around and use it as a weapon to do a billion damage to your enemies" when it very much does not move and ends instantly if its origin shares a space with a creature
Ahh, I have heard of this one. Definitely shenanigans.
You can force the creature into it via reverse gravity through
Folk, I can't tell if we're getting heated on this or not, but just as a reminder that just because something is RAW doesn't mean you have to play it that way, and someone pointing out weird RAW isn't thus saying you have to allow it.
Sometimes RAW be silly.
Hold Person is a level 5 spell, terrorize your T1 games with infinite AC let's go
Hold person is a 2nd level???
"If your wish would undo the multiverse itself, threaten the City of Sigil, or affect the Lady of Pain in any way, you see an image of her in your mind for a moment; she shakes her head, and your wish fails."
This is HILARIOUS 😂
Your thinking of hold monster
Nvm thinking of hold monster, good catch
Imagine wishing for someone and the Lady of Pain just scolds you
Yea, one of the "its not actually based on the rules" types there
I dont think were having an actual debate on this really, especially since its mostly server regulars talking about it
It was heated from the start 😔
Super fun ngl
I think its heated at least, god forbid we point things out
RAW is silly sometimes. Like how RAW no no one should be able to see the stars or moon at night.
Why do you have Tremor sense?
Blindsight it right there smh.
I'm sorry? And confused, but also sorry?
Also I’m pretty sure night time is dim light aint it
Referring to Tiamat
Tremor is better unless your fighting something that can fly
Or that 2014 Cats couldn't jump but Elephants could launch 9ft into the air.
Or swimming in full plate was as easy as swimming with nothing.
Oh, Ophidimancer, wanna know something I did in Ti-Moths Baulders Gate campaign? 👀
Just wanted to point out that a deity can only deny a wish when it is in made in their realms. They can't just do it willy nilly, except I guess with counter spell.
Jumping was so useless..
Sure!
howdy!!
Legendary resistance
The lady of pain can stop any wish that puts the universe or sigil in danger
My Bugbear Ranger pat a Taverns Animated Armor bodyguard on the head and told it that it was doing a good job :>
I still think it’s goofy that counter spell was made into a con save but dispel magic is still the same
Cute or patronizing?
sorry for bothering, is there a channel for builds/character ideas?
Counterspell got a lot of direct and indirect nerfs, mostly in the enemies favor
Cute, he thought it an awesome critter!
Definitely in the enemies favor
I cast wish I wish.. to be happy
Animated Armor...
"If not friend, then why friend shaped?"
None of my characters have sad back stories ngl
Dispel Magic has been around since AD&D began, it's only been modified slightly from time to time.
I’m just saying I think it’s funny that counter spell got nerfed but dispel didn’t
that's possible?
I know. I think because it's a staple of D&D magic like Magic Missile. They won't change it too much
None of my characters have inherently sad backstories either tbh lol
It's definitely possible
The saddest character I made was the ran away from there family of giants because most of her peers were 8ft tall and she was 4ft
LMAO
My most depressing characters are Warforged
Not because of a sad backstory, but just inherently because what Warforged ARE
I dont think i have a character with family alive rn
So she wanted to prove she was as strong as the giants
and i dont like sad back stories tbh but i cant do something interesting enough without tragicness
ig im not a good writer :p
that sounds so cool
Ah, actually
My Earth Genasi Noble Genies Paladin is kind sad, Fate-wise
He wanted to prove his strength to his Dao father who thought he was weak and ended up dying fighting a lich to protect others, his Father built a Golden Statue of him after because he felt pride in his son dying a glorious death
I even cut a deal with my dm to where any time someone called her “small” she auto entered rage
ur small?
...
is 163 small?
We're all small when compared to the vastness of the world
nope
cool then im not
hi not im rael
In hieght? No
In quantity of dice you have? Yes /jk
My hungry ahh could never own dnd dice
lmao, i dont have a single dice
i wouldnt be able to listen to my dm if i had
tell me, how did ur best char start their journey and ended?
Scarred by his family blowing up.
Scarring the BBEG by blowing him up.
We don’t about Luxeria anymore
a single die* ☝️ 🤓
no ur good i just like to annoy people
Aaracokra Warlock of mine
Started on taking the Debt of his Father (who made a deal with a fiend, every first child of each generation had to take the last Warlocks place) ended up sword-fighting his Patron, winning, becoming a Divine Soul Sorcerer, and dying in a battle later when he made a blackhole with his ring of three wishes to kill a Lich and destroy their castle
reasonable
no it isnt
Can I have your bones
sure
mine is a paladin whose oath was to protect everyone on her sights until the dawn everytime she could, got tricked by a lich and got trapped into the shadowfell, she is still there, im trying to get a group to get a excuse to save her :p
imagine someone tricks you and ur just into megahell forever
Oh, and then we have my Wildfire Druid who became an Archdruid then a Diety in one of my dms personal worlds
ive looked some up they dont print well
lemme check
k
a png will do?
sure
5e i suppose?
oh :( i just have 5e
k
I personally prefer DND Beyond over printed sheets, but some ppl prefer something non-digital. I just find it less convenient myself
so i found some that acctually printed
Does anyone have any opinions on what the best official campaign module is for roleplaying?
Same. I would never go back to pencil and paper. Including physical dice.
Roleplaying, any. Intrigue and social, CoS
Says everyone excited for the new official DND class that came out yesterday
I like the physical dice bcuz they have so many really dope sets, but yeah digital dice are way more efficient
Did those ones help, or did your printer prefer another type?
im just reading the 2024 capstone for bard as inspo for my class
Maybe strawd? I mean everyone gloats about that so I assume it'd be the best
why can they do PWK on two creatures??
Insult two people for the price of 1.
effecient bardsters
Or they say a pun so bad it sends a shockwave and gets someone in the cross fire.
My new class is bard but a different favour unfortunatley but what can you do about it
college of creation already does half of what i wanted this class to do
did it die or
can I share an image of my dice my sister got me for xmas? I read the image rules and it's not clear if I'm allowed to or not. I'm leaning towards no, but thought I'd check anyways
no images here
ah
#merch-and-dice ! If ever unsure you can always check out #channel-guide to see if there is a channel that would suit your topic
tyyy
Yeah it was removed.
thats mean
In exchange for a stronger magical secrets, better capstone and countercharm.
so how excited is everyone to now officially be able to play boxers in d&d
what's that?
The new class
oh snap
?
Yeah song of rest isnt as needed, because back then you only got half your hit dice back on long rest
So you didnt wanna use all of them, but now you get them all back, so song of rest isnt as needed
It's partnered content so not really "official" but rather heavily spotlighted 3rd party
Pugilist is the new class a mix of fighter barbarian and monk and its strength based? They're essentially boxers brawlers. They have an ability called below the belt which allows you to punch your enemies below the belt and everyone gets advantage on that enemy until the beginning of your next turn, which is really hilarious
not really, im continuing to not use 3rd party material
theres nothing offical about it, it just happens to be on dnd beyond
But technically because it is on the d&d beyond page, it is now considered official material
No that's not how it works
nope, its partnered content
this is what i play dnd for
You guys are no fun sometimes. Seriously, I was just asking about how everyone's going to enjoy this new class and everyone's like oh, but you know I saw a technically official material. Okay, you could just focus on the other part you know being excited to play something new. God you guys are a buzz kill sometimes
third party stuff is off a lot of folks radars, Sorry to be a buzzkill
Ah, it can be a little frustrating when people focus on a point they've noticed- Cunningham's law and all that. But to give folk here some benefit, they're genuinely helpful people and being 'official' or not can matter for some games and also for this server. We do make things a little tricky with having a #third-party channel specifically for this after all!
Yea being on ddb does not mean its official material at all
Need them to collab with Bethesda
But I do think we should refocus on the fun aspect here, which is the class itself- and #third-party is the perfect place for that
its definitely a funny class tho, I'm sure some people will enjoy it, I know a guy whose gonna play one
Its certainly... very strong. As most third party classes tend to be
ngl I just got done watching fallout content so that's funny to see lol
Its just such a shame how they have just been sitting on Tamriel for 15 years
Tbh I'm suprised dnd hasn't collabed with Bethesda for something like Skyrim. I know it wouldn't work for fallout as they have their own ttrpg
(Edit: DnD 5E version)
Hey got a question about Ghostlance Gish/Hexblade version of the build ❤️
Different sources led me to believe I could for example: Eldritch Blast --> Unleash Incarnation --> Action Surge --> Eldritch Blast --> Unleash Incarnation = For like 8 Eldritch Blasts at lvl 5.
This seems not to hold true?
Eldritch Blast is not an attack or what?
And Unleash Incarnation can only be used with Melee attacks to then do another melee attack?
I need some sparring on this cause I feel like the build is now coming apart and the build I read up on so much doesn't actually work like it sounded like it did.
So any thoughts, sparring, clearing up and tips and tricks for discussing the build would be most welcome. Also going forward what would be good to work towards ❤️
Thank you!
Tamriel is so expansive and the only games in it that hold up are Oblivion and Skyrim
Tamriel is stupid easy to run games in
MY POINT, yet they wont
#dnd-rules can help more thoroughly but as a quick bit eldritch blast is an attack, but not the Attack action
Mind it is harder due to it being a collab type situation
Yes but even Bethesda themselves
Theres 9 countries on Tamriel yet the only ones i know anything about are Skyrim and Cyrodiil
Alright I will post it there - thank you 🙂
So you're saying it doesn't work, is that it`?
Yes i know ES 1-3 exist but they're just too old for me
if i ran something based off ES id probably do Black Marsh or Morrowind
Argonian's got some sick lore and Morrowind had the best writing of the mainline games lore and storywise
another 4~5 years to TES VI
8-10 moreso
ngl there's been times I've been tempted to do a fallout campaign but I'm already running 4
Has the potential to be the best game ever IMO
Like Skyrim has major flaws yes but still holding up this well 15 years later is insane
I wanna run a modiphius fallout game sometime this year
cause of modding mainly
likewise, I've got the perfect setup inspired by Quentin Tarrentino
issue is they've gone very corporate between when skyrim released and now, which was one of the many factors that really hurt starfield
(pardon me if I butchered his last name)
And people not really making those kinds of RPGs until Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon and Avowed
Well i'm playing modded rn and yes, but even without
Oh yes Bethesda hasn't done anything good in a while
The oblivion remaster was pretty good tbf
Oblivion remaster is how you do a remaster imo
Barely change the original game but give it a facelift
Yeah I was shocked that it was actually good in this era of terrible remasters
Like all they changed was give a sprint button which works well in oblivion
I don't know why but i didn't really like it that much
They greatly improved the graphics and changed a couple of things but the overall game is still the same
was also made by a third party contractor
so bear that in mind
Like it was good but i just could not connect with it the same way as Skyrim
Oh I know. They still picked a good company to do it though
I've always liked Oblivion more
I like oblivion but my favourite was always Morrowind
as a vanilla game
q_q, I have a session today but it's not for 9 more hours
Modded skyrim always wins for me cause of how easy it is and how big the modding scene is
could fit like, 2~4 full sessions between now and then
Modders Skyrim is fun yeah
But we should move back to dnd
I just want another fallout game where the brotherhood of steel just dominates and we get to see them go back to their original values. I feel like that they've been put into a bastardization of what they originally represented
I downloaded 500 mods now my game runs better
neeed to finish my moderately customised STEP guide skyrim remod
ends up being like 600~700 mods, just takes forever to do and then Betehsda updates the game and it breaks
Yeah the only game I'm not really interested in them. Remaking is three. I think three is the worst out of all the fallout games
So, anyone got any dnd plans this weekend?
She hungers
Yeah, I'm running a Homebrew campaign for some friends of mine I about tpk the last session cuz it's a grim dark campaign. So you know dark themes characters with deep running political ideologies the elves being questionably racist because they kick people out of their homes but the elves are like hey we told you guys before this war happened that if you agreed to help us we would let you keep your homes but you guys said no and then you got conquered and guess what. We're unconquering your lands but it's now our property so you're not allowed to stay here anymore. Get going
More waterdeep tonight 😎
We might reach level 5 🔥
That do be sounding fun! I think the only official campaign I've ever actually played in, but I never finished it. Lost mindset I also played in curse of strawd but that was for one session in the middle of the campaign so
A bit jealous, but also I like Waterdeep and yall sound like you're kind of rampaging through it.
Oh, we absolutely are
Barbarian, Monk, Rogue
And
A Cleric and Sorcerer
Honestly one of the most fun parties I've ever played in lol
We've only really struggled with one encounter, but that's because we were fireballed offgate lol
Might take a book out of a friends book and run an FR adventure
after all i was excited all year and got the ultimate bundle so i should probably actually open the books
I need some assistance; I made an ad with Monodrone, but I accidentally put the game time wrong. How can I edit it to show the correct time?
Anybody make anyone from Waterdeep?
Everyone is native in that group, actually
Everyone is from Waterdeep? Nice, I love to engage in the setting lore.
Born and raised
My character is the Tortle Knowledge Cleric, he used to work at a Library within waterdeep but met the rest of the group in the Yawning Portal Tavern
Ahh good old Yawning Portal.
Aye, we're going into Dungeon of the Mad Mage after this
I think ima run something in the Moonshae Isles
Or Calimshan since my monday game is gonna be a winter wonderland at some point and I need the desert to cool off
In the 2024 5th edition, what’s the best leveling path to multi class level 1 in all of them?
Uh..
It's gonna feel bad regardless lol
Idk, I’d have to go human because all the classes need 13 to multi class
Fighter 1 and then go ham, it wouldn't really matter anyways
Go ham as in any order?
Yea
Just wanna get your proficiencies out of the way first with Fighter, then its whatever
Yeah, if you're doing this, don't make it a character in ANY old campaign, I'd just do it for a oneshot.
Or you can start with Paladin that works too
It might be funny, but you're gonna feel useless a lot
That's a pretty terrible idea.
Agreed, one shot material
You're kind of forced to constantly take ASIs to patch up your abysmal stats at first
I'd grab some cha and con and just sit behind firing cantrips
i have been running a great moonshae campaign since that book dropped
a calimport one too
ngl I'm still digging into those books, I like a lot of the new lore in it
So you get ASIs even without ever reaching 4 in one class?
I always thought ASI, unlike proficiency, depends only on the level of each class, not the character total
Actually im fairly certain
Ye I skimmed through it and I think ima do Moonshae.
I just handwave this whenever i play though, multiclassings suboptimal anyway, dont need to make it worse
I'd Say Fighter, Barbarian, Rogue, or rogue into barbarian and then the order after that doesn't matter all that much
maybe monk 4th for the BA attack
Id get early healing to be useful at least as a rez machine
Cleric should be 3 or 4 id say
but like, rage, sneak attack, and monk BA attack is at least decentish damage >.>
Rage and sneak attack dont even work together
Get fighter barb for combat strength, then cleric to have an actual use
Then rogue for some extra damage
they do, just have to use a finese weapon, don't actually have to use the property of it
Oh right
Once per turn, you can deal an extra 1d6 damage to one creature you hit with an attack roll if you have Advantage on the roll and the attack uses a Finesse or a Ranged weapon
You have to run a rapier huh
My last char was literally rogue barb so i dont know how i forgot
Have to?
Rapier gives the biggest damage die
You don’t have to but it’s the Finesse weapon with the highest damage dice
at least until you can find a sun blade
I still think cleric is way more useful than getting an extra d6 damage potentially per turn
With everything at level 1 you need all the damage you can get
When taking the level in fighter I say grab the dueling fighting style for more damage
So combined with rage that’s +4
Having utility that is good regardless of stats is better than d6/turn
Take rogue next
But get something that doesnt depend on your cursed statline
Revives dont care about stats
Fix it with ASIs
Two Weapon Fighting
I would say Ranger will give an extra d6 because of hunter’s mark but then I remembered rage stops spells
I think using your spell slots on Bless may be a better idea anyways
Ok yes max damage i get it but dont you think you should pick up the easily available strong cleric stuff at lvl 3
Sure good too but saving one heal for literally saving a teammate seems better to me than this minmaxing of damage
you don't get ASIs, they're class level dependant, not character
24 too?
Oh btw I am a little late to the convo, the topic is maximising the viability of multiclassing into everything, right?
yep
Because i said that too
Crap
Yeah i think just freaking out over damage is not ideal
you're stuck with a 13 in every Ability Score unless you pick up stat fixing magic items
Yeah, it will not be very good at all. But hey I like thinking about these hypothetical
Fighter barb is a good start imo but you need something else than just combat power
Because youll be left in the dust anyway
Best max out flat boons that cursed builds cant ruin
Fortunately the class levels in all the other Spellcasting classes should give a few level 1 spells and cantrips
Exactly
you want to set up your martial/damage stuff early and then pivot into utility
So I’d focus on utility spells to salvage the utility of this build
D6 or revival
Obvious to me
Fighter and barb already are martial base
Could honnestly Start Barb > Rogue > Monk > and then go like cleric or druid
Fighter is for profs
You cant skip profs lvl 1
You need heavy armour because your stats suck
issue is heavy armor also turns off a bunch of your features
grabbing an amulet of health and using the barb AC replacement gets you to 15ac without a shield at least >.>
I still think extra speed isnt worth not using plate armour tbh
Why use stat dependant ac while having the worst stats ever
Does being unarmoured give you anything else
Can you rage armoured?
no
Ah there is the crux
you need it for rage and the monk's extra attack
Yes you can, just not with heavy armor
but at that point, barbarian already has medium armor prof, so you can still skip taking fighter first regardless
True
also nets you a few extra max HP starting barbarian
What?
I was just answering their Armor raging question lol
I think im sold on the lvl1 then
silly 1 in every class multiclass discussion
Barb into rogue or monk, then cleric, then the other one you didnt pick
I am still adamant you want to pick a caster at 3
monk needs you to be fully unarmored for the extra unarmed attack, so skip monk and go for rogue second
Ok fair
Barb > Rogue > cleric/druid
Or just don't wear armor at all
Yeah thats what i had in mind
issue is you have 13 in every Ability Score
Does paladin get healing hands at lvl1?
Yeah if you can't use Flurry of Blows, you might as well skip Monk
I'd just cope
You could use mage armour on top right?
gotta pick up an Amulet of heath and bracers of defense
Rage is decent damage reduction at minimum
it doesn't because they're both base AC replacement effects
they only work with things that say (add +ac) instead of (ac becomes x + mod + dex) or whatever
I wonder if heavy armor is the play here
Wait if the issue is having 13 in all scores why not just play fighter and increase asi? Eldrich knight for spells if wanted
it eats rage and monk BA unarmed attack
Would we miss those
Its about 1lvl each class
oh
Though ig we do get the same amount of AC with a half plate
So we’re essentially locked out of ASI’s until level 15
you either go medium and not use the BA unarmed attack or you find an Amulet of health or a barrier tattoo
Maybe the play is to use heavy armour when fighting elemental damage
But rage when fighting physical
Start with chain mail, transition into half plate?
Barbarian into Rogue and using a rapier is the optimal start though
I think we stick with medium armour and rage
Good point, Scale Mail into Half Plate then
I have work later
warlock lvl 5 atleast?
every class at level 1
Then I’d say fighter for the dueling fighting style to get +2 free damage on top of +2 rage damage
1lvl in each class would make eb spam good
true
EB spam would outpace martial fairly quickly
Not much choice but EB spam with 13 cha
Feels like we would be playing a crappy Hexblade, huh
I assume the campaign ends at level 13 as well, no idea how we would proceed at 14-20
I think 2014 rules would be better for this hypothetical situation because of cleric and warlock subclasses at level 1
Yeah, but the question is based on 2024 sadly
2014 would see a lot more options I agree, free Bless with Divine Soul Sorc
Thought 2024 had 2014 as part of it as "legal" character builds
In terms of content not updated for 2024 yea
oh ok
you can use the material as you see fit for your tables
But updated stuff supercedes 2014 rules unless stated otherwise
mixing and maxing can work just fine, but its definitly not well supported by digital tools
you only lose the old options if you choose too
If you have paid content, you should be able to use the legacy subclasses in 2024, right? Or is the limitation that if that subclass was revised in 2024, you can only use 2024's? I'd have to look at the change log again.
in dnd beyond 2014 subclasses work on 2024 charicters
Oops sorry 😭
most of them anyway, theres still issues
How can I convince my 2014 DM to allow me to use the 2024 Moon Druid? 🤣
I find 2014 Moon to be soooo boring and needlessly restrictive but 2024 is super fun.
Ask your DM if you can make your druid with the 2024 rules?
I would like to cast Cure Wounds with my paws 🐾
Be healed my child! boops with snoot
Quick question. Does the dueling fighting style work with a shield in one hand?
Yes
Awesome
You still have DM's who won't budge from 2014.
I'll try. If my current character dies ofc.
He warned us (we are level 4) that the gloves are off and "random encounters" are actually random and frequent now. So there's a good chance we can die if we aren't smart.
I just hope to make it to level 5 first so I can get revivify 😅
I'm slowly winning him over to 2024. I convinced him to take certain spells and feats from there. I'll win him over
If they dont budge then thats just the unfortunate truth. DM is in charge alas
Hi. Kyle!
Hey guys
hi
Ngl yakl
There are DMs that still won't budge from 3.5. 🙂
https://www.dndbeyond.com/campaigns/join/7494724697421515 if you want to join friend me join my server and we will begin 7pm to 10pm UTC min 3 players also there will be an dmpc if 3 players
Y'all,I lowkey wna be an ancient dragon
learn true polymorph
Or be the DM!
i dont have permission to text stuff in looking for players btw
Nah become a Great Wyrm instead and take Tiamat out for soft tacos
Iv always thought it would be cool to play a dragon that's been sleeping for thousands of years only to wake up to the world before alien and unfamiliar
Like,
why do i after i made my ranger i now wanna live in a forest 😭
A dragon so ancient they existed when the gods walked the world
if you can come up with a compelling reason as to why they're leveled down to PC level, I don't see why not, at least in my table
Read #find-a-game for the instructions. You can run the command in any channel where you can type.
I think if if I was gonna do it id definitely wna do it as a dm
A god descends to the mortal realm to reck havoc!
The dragon: “Oh hi Mark!”
the closest you can get to playing a dragon from what ive seen is the blood ritual to become a half dragon as a player
How’s the kids?
God, "They are 10,000 years old and growing"
dragonborn aaroca 😭
A character kinda like alduin from Skyrim but he's not an evil buttmunch
Id definitely have to do it as a homebrew thing
Especially considering the size id want is best described as almost as big as the biggest castle citadel's
Like, 200+ ft plus tall
Dude would be so massive he would need to whisper to not harm the mortals he talks to
I mean a great wyrm is like 100ft long sooo
I definitely wna do my own Skyrim campaign at some point
Or something inspired by it at least
Lmao imagine going to fight an ancient, mountain shattering dragon only for them to offer you cookies
Trying to take the wagon intro seriously and not laughing
Difficulty: Impossible
" HELLO LITTLE ONES, VOLDUN THE ANCIENT WOULD LIKE TO OFFER YOU SNACKS, VOLDUN IS OLD AND DOES NOT WANT TO FIGHT, VOLDUN IS TO OLD FOR THIS "
Yeah the intro is silly but the lore is horrifying
True Polymorph
Like, did you know the average dragon in the Skyrim lore is 100+ long
THE AVERAGE,not alduin,not parthanx,
Alduin is literally so big he can consume the world
The last dragon born is basically fantasy kratos 😂
You can become an adult dragon with shape change for like 6 seconds and then get hit by every enemy in the combat and instantly lose concentration :)
Totally not speaking from experience
Personally I'd wna have the character be an npc
Like, their body would probably fill the inside of a mountain
Id also wna make the world for the setting MASSIVE
like, think mount everest as the average mountain
No… their body IS THE MOUNTAIN
A world so massive it makes giants look tiny
Y E S
Hey folks, im trying to make maps for my campaign. Unfortunately im about as far from artistically capable as it gets. Any recommendations? My campaign is done online via discord so it doesnt need to be a physical map.
Azgards fantasy map generator
It can be a little annoying to use but it's free and you can control every aspect of it
You can even do specific trade routes and population growth/ decline
Ill look into that for sure thanks
you should let your players destroy the thalmor i think that will be based
17th level though
I mean tbh I wouldn't mind having the last dragon born be an npc
Imagine having him as an npc who's grown OLD
like,he naturally has a way longer life span then other mortals
I can easily see him growing to at least 100+ years old
FUS ROH- OH GOD MY BACK
Dies
i think an elder scrolls campaign would be great but my issue with it is that racial and religious conflict is kind of a core theme of the setting which i'd imagine not many people would be comfortable with
Honestly I just had an idea,
So imagine your the party right? You talk into his home with him and he sits the party down only to hit a secret button which opens up the armory,he gives each party member one weapon/ artifact
Conflict resolution
Does anyone have a perfect example of what roleplaying looks like? Preferably in video format? I'm a DM who doesn't know what 'rp'ing' actually entales. I'm like 10 sessions in, and starting a new group who I'm thinking wants to be RP "heavy"
A youtube vid or clip I think would be exactly what I need. Tyia!
Plus it depends on what era
Like I'd imagine after the civil war with the dragon born being around he would probably help solve those kinds issues over time, considering your not gonna say no to him
everyone was racist in every era is the thing
" Ah yes hello dragon born, I won't stop being racist even though you tell.me for"
FUS RO DAAAAH
Show then the DND episodes from the Friday beers YouTube channel
I mean it's part of the world, don't forget how much war has happened over the eras
Tamreil is not a nice place and its ass,
But I feel like it makes the world more lived in
I know Skyrim at least Is definitely the worst for the racism
Considering how many civil wars have happened between man and mer
Make one of those artifacts a bag of holding that can only hold cheese wheels
I was meaning more like , a daedric artifact or ancient nord stuff ,maybe even old weapons he created
Like imagine getting a dragon bone great sword hand made by the dragon born
You'll never leave it behind , or at least if you do you'll be sorry
Well, every group has a different expectation of what roleplaying should be, so nothing will ever be perfect. There are great live-plays like Critical Role, where everyone is a professional voice actor and skilled at playing dramatic characters, but many would consider their style undesirable for their own tables.
It would definitely be worth checking them out, as well as other live-play/actual-play groups, and get an understanding of how many different groups play.
Bold of you to assume the mass of near infinite cheese wheels isn’t a weapon :)
Lmao the barbarian would be so happy
Are geeky people or popular people better to play dnd with?
Though I know dragon bone is heavy
Geeks and nerds
If I remember correctly dragon bone is by far one of the heaviest materiels in the entirety of the elder scrolls
It's also incredibly rare and almost impossible to forge
yes it is thats why i force the npc travle companion to carry it
Even better, convert the popular people into geeky people and laugh about it like an evil mastermind whose decade long scheme has finally succeeded
If you see a 6'6 barbarian orc/ nord man with his trusty dragon bone hammer roll up to your bandit camp and demand you stop being bandits your probably gonna listen lmao
I'm starting to like typical boardgames more then DND, I love games with cards like terraforming mars
Make him have a side gig of being a motivational speaker
Unless you want said hammer crushing your skull
Geeks who would be popular if not for their geekyness
That's the tricky part, "geek chic" has kinda become popular. So now it's more a question of sincerity - are people playing because it's popular now, or because they're sincerely engaged with fantasy? Social dynamics like these can be difficult to navigate.
Idk people would have some misgiving if you said you played DND at work
When I last applied for a job I said dungeons and dragons was one of my interests and the interviewer wrote it down as DND and I just smiled to myself
#clocked him
I feel like in my experience it's mostly been the opposite. Some of my friends even have campaigns made up entirely of coworkers.
(You wouldn't catch me bringing work home to that extent frankly but I think it's a neat concept.)
Bonus points if they write an ampersand, and thus actually remember how to write an ampersand.
It's almost like playing D&D isn't taboo?!
People used to think the game was Witchcraft though iirc lmao
That's OLD thinkin' though
In reality, I'm just playing pretend with the homies
I feel like a lot of the things people used to claim were "demonic" was just making an excuse not to have to understand. Notice how it was usually kids media.
People used to think that anything that didn’t fit within their closed minded beliefs was witchcraft so yeah
They'd be terrified of my Harengon Wizard
He loves Witchcraft and the Occult
But he's a chill guy :>
I wasnt allowed to bring my books into church as a child because I liked fantasy and my mother was afraid people would think I was ungodly
So I don't know that thinking is fully in the past, but I don't care
I don't even like Harry Potter for obvious reasons but claiming the fictional concept of magic has a tangible evil effect on the world is stupid.
Oh lord, great heavens!
That man is playing a Robot with a Dog companion, HE'S A WITCH! BURN HIM! /silly
And more often than not in these forms of media you're fighting demons as main antagonists, but they'd never know because that would require them to actually look into what they're attacking.
One useful thing to consider regarding popularity, is that popular often means "safe". If people only ever take the safe route, chances are they tend to offload their thinking to the collective, and struggle to be sincere.
When the unpopular thing suddenly becomes popular, things get weird.
You fools! I have a melting point of FIVE THOUSAND DEGREES MUHAHAH
I'm getting flashbacks of the lady that tried to claim the claw marks on the Monster logo was actually 666. "Take a sip and the devil laughs".
I thought that was part of the marketing gimmick.
I'm gonna play a Warforged Dog & Hound Pugilist who befriended a Dog because he just couldn't find companionship amongst humans because of how he was treated
I'm what way is this Witchcraft? He's a homie
If I was on monsters marketing team I would’ve just leaned into it more and more simply to cause chaos
Honestly they should have. I don't think it was intentional on their part though, weirdos like that lady are a dime a dozen in certain areas.
I mean their tagline is "Unleash the Beast".
Good heavens, that young girl wishes to play a pretty elf princess, tis the devil upon her!!!
New flavors now include: Holy Water & The Souls Of The Innocent
A monster is a beast.
Or at least, a beast can be a monster.
turns into a tiefling irl
I don't think the rollercoaster The Beast supports demonic things either, not every mention of a beast is demonic.
Or maybe the coaster did? It's been a while, but I don't remember protests against it of that nature.
A monster is anything the PC's can kill. I prefer to use the word for it's meaning: anything non-human that is hostile and wants kill and/or eat me
I just find it to be like Mountain Dew but unpleasant.
Now I kinda want Mountain Dew... best I keep on with my diet, avoiding sugar and artificial sweeteners.
I usually use the name of the creature or at least what it resembles because i don't wanna be broad
Honestly that's exactly how I describe the taste of regular Monster. "Like someone made Mountain Dew wrong."
Question: which D&D god do you think is "overrated"
Energy drinks just make me more sleepy anyway so I don't drink them that often.
Vecna
How many times have y'all been in a game where background features actually came up? (The things like sailor being able to find passage on boats by offering to work on the crew)
The only legit reason why a lot of people don't like vecna is because he gets talked about a lot + stranger things
I would say that Bane is pretty overrated
The actual literal feature built into it doesn't come up often but used as a story element it happens quite a bit.
I do my best to lure my players into situations where they can use them but oftentimes it just feels so natural that it doesn't feel like they're using an ability
Not very often, at best the background is the general base of their backstory and at worst they are just taken for the features it has.
of the dead three he is the least cool and his realm kinda just focuses around tyranny which a lot of gods do tyrannical things
ao
just a conceptually not that interesting being
Lolth and Tiamat.
Right but this is just the DM using your backstory
Byt you agree that's a legit reason.
My samurai is the captain in a dragonslayer army, and managed to get a squad sent over to help us in town while we're out adventuring.
I feel like the designers kinda made a lot of the older backgrounds way too specific for most games
Lolth and Tiamat are cool man? What's wrong with them?
Well yeah but ideally you'd pick a background that fits your backstory.
it's a legit reason, but vecna is a pretty cool character
They asked who we thought were overrated.
I said Lolth and Tiamat and you instantly jump to defend them, I rest my CASE! 🧐/silly
I've had an interesting idea for a setting that would recontextualize Tiamat, but I'm so preoccupied with my other projects I probably can't bring it to fruition.
Bah. I guess I'm a fan of Orcus.
I wonder if the Dead Three were considered overrated for a bit there because of BG3.
You wanna know who's underrated?
Lolths Son, Vhaeraun.
Even my dm who loves Lolth and Menzoberrenzen and Drow Lore wasn't aware of him until I brought him up
I asked why, I understand someone like tiamat doesn't seem to do much beyond her name or aesthetics but why in general?
I don’t find them as characters overrated but their motives are a little stupid
Eilistraee is also forgotten, not as forgotten as Vhaerun but still forgotten
Lolth and Tiamat are overly glazed by the community
Like "Wow another bad [Redacted] diety! There's like, 50 of those!"
okay but tiamat has 4 more heads than most other deities
that makes her at least 400% cooler than say, lathander, who only has one
Wow that’s 400% more heads!
I hate how at the end of so many Yu-Gi-Oh arcs they just summon Tiamat as nostalgia bait.
You could literally say the same thing for the good guys
Bahamut when he's just a chill guy
Compared to
Angry murder kill dragon woman
Well Tasha introduced the ability to make custom backgrounds and pick whatever feature you want so it could be in different contexts
My point is they are a weird mechanic that rarely comes up and I'm pretty sure 2024 got rid of them
About Lolth... have you ever considered that Anansi is also a spider with the [Trickery] domain?
Vhaeraun, her son, also has the Trickery Domain
Yeah, 2024 changed the structure of how they work. Instead of your ASI coming from your species it comes from your background, as well as an origin feat.
Bahamut's dragon face is pretty handsome
Could a case be made for a non-evil aspect of Llolth to appear in the form of Anansi.
Also instead of doing the Tasha's thing of picking any ASI you want you pick from three based on each background.
Vhaeraun is a lot more like his Mother than Eilistraee was, but Vhaeraun also actively seeks establishment between other species for Drow kind so they CAN actually reign Supreme
ASI?
Tiamat is the the dragon goddess of tyranny and chromatic dragons while also having ties to the githyanki, the hells, etc
Which ability scores you add to, I mean.
Yawns
Bahamut is just goated
In my setting, I've made Tiamat the primary deity of kobolds, as well.
I prefer bahamut too, but he doesn't really do much imo
All these others gods are cool but have you ever heard of the Demi god Monkey? :D
I like Bahamut because he's just a Good Guy that loves everything and doesn't need a reason to be the way he is
Gonna be real, I honestly don't care for a lot of D&D's signature monsters and gods in general. Some of them are really cool and interesting, but some just seem... strange and unfitting. Often the settings themselves have felt very arbitrary to me.
It's actually part of why I fell in love with Elder Scrolls, everything fits into a broader, meaningful metaphysical model.
It is real btw
(Complaints aside, a good ol' pulp fantasy adventure is still plenty of fun.)
Ilmater is another one of those "Just a fantastic guy" deities that I like
It kinda is
Same with Pathfinder the setting is explicitly generic fantasy so they can fit as many generic fantasy tropes in
Every campaign I've ever been in has been homebrew, so I'm only really familiar with canon lore in a pop culture sense.
Same
I tried to make my homebrew pantheon familiar by using "real world" angels and demons.
I can agree with this, but I've got a soft spot for a few deities lol
Honestly reading forgotten realms lore is mostly just peak boredom activities
Generic fantasy is fine for core system books and such, as long as the specific settings are unique and interesting.
Tiamat is his sister and he sees her doing bad things, obviously he is going to jump in and stop her and others machinations.
Malar is just another Deity that I like for no apparent reason
Probably because I want evil nature gods more in media
I was in a Descent into Avernus module campaign once but it went on hiatus before we got far enough for any big players to matter.
Yeah, but Bahamut also just does good for the sake of good anyway
I think most people here would rather make their own setting using characters from the lore but making them do different things or represent them in their own way
Yeah but do the others really have anything interesting going on?
I'm not super familiar but my understanding is ravenloft is "generic wizard school" ala harry Potter and eberron is generic steam punk magic
Not really, that's the problem.
Well yes, that’s the main reason why that lore exists to begin with. Almost no one is going to be following that lore word for word and doing so would just be silly.
Actually
Eberron is Magipunk 🧐 /silly
I like forgotten realms lore personally
Well sure, but if he saw some poor guy stealing from a store he'd probably polymorph you into a frog without asking himself "why is he stealing from the store?"
Also ravenloft is gothic horror
This just describes most lawful good characters in a nutshell lol
I doubt he'd do anything like that lol
He's a Lawful Good and that's more a Chaotic Good thing
Enforcing the rules while not considering why people are breaking them
I’d argue rhats more lawful neutral. lawful good is a bit more nuanced
Do you not know just how Laid back Bahamut is though?
Bahamut prefers to polymorph creatures that do evil because he doesn't want to sully himself with their blood
Yeah, but shoplifting doesn't make you evil.
That's kind of a strange argument there, buddy
Shoplifting depends on what you’re shoplifting and why
Thou shalt not steal
But it is an evil act
I like to think that if someone’s house cat or something is acting up it’s because they used to be a notorious criminal only to be polymorphed into a cat
Like if you’re shoplifting makeup? Yeah that’s bad. Stealing food because you’re starving? That’s more nuanced
He's literally known as
🌸 ✨ The Grandmaster of Flowers ✨ 🌸
Do you think Bahamut is just gonna change you for shoplifting?
and he doesn't accept excuses for evil acts according to his lore
My lawful good samurai has broken many written laws in pursuit of a higher moral order, and to preserve the natural order of life that is under threat by evil despots.
Not really?
Uh yes
It also depends on what laws you’re following as Murasaki mentioned
If I play as a wizard, does it take 50 coins everytime I need to learn a new spell?
Stealing isn't inherently an EVIL action.
Sometimes it's for the sake of others
Sometimes it's just to survive
hello dnd people
where do you ppl go to sell your dice once you're not into dnd anymore
Stealing for GREED Is Evil
Stealing for SURVIVAL isn't
❓
you get some free spells on level ups
Lawful Good Deities vs The Local Lawyer
A battle of the century
Stealing is an evil act, the question is what forced you to steal in the first place and if there is a good reason IMO then we should help you to feel the need to no longer steal. Polymorphing someone into a frog because they stole is not a useful tactic for someone who might've done an evil act because they thought they needed to for survival
Uh huh
I happen to have a dice addiction so just send em my way
Mephisto from the 8th level of hell, 'Yesssss. Stealing for food isn't evil. Steal all you like. Yessssss"
I don't think Bahamut would just do that without hearing anyone out.
He's STERN but not RUTHLESS.
are you sure mans
not all stealing is evil
I feel like bahamut would be more concerned with the reason why people are stealing because they're hungry
Meanwhile my upcoming evil character is going to start off chaotic, living for herself and being willing to crush anyone who gets in her way. But she's still pro-social, and when confronted with innocents, she will begin to develop a strong moral code.
I eventually want her to become a lawful evil punisher of sins. She upholds that moral order through gleeful brutality.
"Bahamut was stern and very disapproving of evil, always arguing with Asgorath about his crusade against it. He accepted no excuses for evil acts, and didn't tolerate even minor offenses by evil creatures.
In spite of his stance, he was also considered one of the most compassionate beings in the multiverse. He had limitless empathy for the downtrodden, the dispossessed, and the helpless."
Dose anyone have experience streaming there game play dnd
I think what you mean is "Not all stealing isn't justified"
I’m not even sure it’s good for me but I like my tiny marbles of fortune
thank you for defending my goat
if its justified, how is it evil?
Bahamut is VERY compassionate.
Justification and morality are different things
stealing is inhernetly a "bad" act, but people dont always steal for evil reasons
Because one shouldn't steal, even if it is justified. Sure it might not be as bad as murder but it is an evil act that one might do for the right and good cause
The denizens of hell, enjoy how mortals justify their evil deeds
like robin hood is obviously not evil
ALSO:
"Bahamut disdained combat, and he preferred to talk with his opponents and convince them to surrender using his legendary diplomatic skills."
i disagree. if the outcome is good, then it wasnt evil (intentions matter too to some extend)
Of course he isn't he is a chaotic good character who steals for good reasons
Stealing Demon Lord's pants so he'll get embarrassed and stop his plan to invade the world.
Wait wait keep cooking
I got back from my medical ethics lecture like an hour ago and we were talking exactly about stuff like this lol
He might like that, you never know
A good example of rightfully stealing back what was wrongfully stolen.
Is Bahamut just Naruto in the form of a dragon?
IMO actions, results of actions that can be resonably predicted, and intent all matters
"Stealing to repair my construct friend because I couldn't imagine life without him..."
Vs
"I'm stealing because I think I deserve what other people have more than they do!"
Possible
He is the Demon Lord after all
He'll be like
"Jokes on you, I'm into this kind of stuff Adventurer 😏"
Vs
“I dunno man, I’m just bored.”
Fun fact, he's known as the Grandmaster of Flowers because he got the titles of the highest levels of classes in AD&D, including monks!
Highest level of monk was called this because of Mahjong. 🀄 >.>
You wanna hear some of Bahamuts titles?
Or "stealing a healing potion because ill die if i cant drink it and its my only option" versus "stealing a healing potion because i could pay for it but i dont wanna"
Sure
Thats assuming the construct is nice and that the other person isn't a hard working individual who simply doesn't make as much money as someone who sits in a castle all day
Grandmaster of Flowers
Lord of Pure incantations
Justicemaker
Angel of the Seven Heavens
Just as a few
So somebody just tried to scam me and it said that this was a mutual server. If you get a message from somebody saying that they accidentally reported you because you have a similar pfp and you have to message somebody to revoke it, PLEASE IGNORE IT IT'S A SCAM
Just wanna make people aware since they are supposedly in this server
ok but what if I don't wanna fund mega corpos ?
oh new scam meta, thanks
He's also THE PLATINUM DRAGON, Babeh!
need to pay him a visit and beat him up so he lets the conjuration wizard summon him on demand frfr
I've seen that one a few times.
I was going to bring that up about the highest rank for a Monk being GM of Flowers, but the conversation went sideways too quickly
uhh what
Sadly the 'I accidently reported you' is a common scam, but thank you for making more people aware!
where does the actual scamming happen tho
Just block anyone who you don’t know that DM’s you unless it’s from a server you specifically know is safe. Don’t even bother giving them the light of day.
What is the scam?
Report to discord and block them!
Remember not to accept friend requests from folk you were not excepting a request from. Accepting them is telling Discord you trust them.
The scam occurs because they will tell you to fill out a form to appeal the report.
Thats a more morally complex discussion. Does the person selling the potion deserve to lose out on money because they have to work for a larger, potentially immoral organisation? Is there a way to get this potion from a more ethical place?
But, moving back to D&D.
thats so dumb lol
I highly recommend everyone ignore DMs from people you dont actively recognise tbh
People be dumb.
"When he wished to wander the mortal world, he usually took the appearance of an old human or demihuman wizard dressed in peasant robes accompanied by seven canaries or other songbirds. This persona came to be known among mortals as Fizban the Fabulous. Some sages believed Bahamut used this humanoid guise to not frighten non-dragon beings."
Bahamut the sweetheart
I'm gonna keep glazing Bahamut now
Scams are intentionally designed to be dumb so only, to be blunt, dumb people fall for them
i just bid on a 1e manual of the planes
That's so... un-mIRC-like, though.
It's still wild to me that monk's level titles were based off of Mahjong.
"bro dnd lore is so boring"
(the person in question selling the potion most likely makes no extra money no matter the organisations profit margins anyway, aka they suffer no losses from the theft)
Forgotten realms lore is so fun dude
Can you imagine someone actually saying that with a straight face?
I mean, just lore about corporate shinanagins is amusing.
Well thats important information. I would argue in that case that its morally grey
Bahamut literally cosplays as an old guy just to not scare his non-draconic friends, that is PEAK lore!
This is especially considerate when you realize his true form is probably the size of a large city block
Bahamut deserves a Raise,
Make him a Greater Deity again!
Intelligence dice rolls - 3 💔
This man
I love him
"Bahamut's favored food was the early morning frost on blades of grass, honey, and daisy petals. He was able to eat anything, however, and he needed no sustenance while in his palace."
Someday I will make a bahamut cleric
Me too
But I'd be stuck between making a Life Cleric of Bahamut or Ilmater
Neither
Elves, duh. 😉
tressyms > everyone else
We don't use the word "race" anymore. They are called species
I'd actually would like to put stop to that line of question. It's not a good way of framing it.
Make them a Kobold that just calls Bahamut Grandpa
Ok then which one would win in a one Vs1 fight
Oh
Sorry
Species it is
Folk can 100% chat about what species they prefer playing and are their favourite in that regards, but let's not go into 'funny fantasy racism' please. It is, in fact, not that funny.
Notably
Kobolds probably wouldn't accept Bahamut naturally
Updated dragonborn fufill me in ways I could have only imagined
A little strange, but, the Deity of Kobolds DOES work under Tiamat afterall
I heard that Kobolds are big fan of dragons
I still call them races and so do many other people.
Some of us still play old editions where we still use the old terms.
I do too and while I know the names are different, I don't really care
Race - Racist
Species - Speciest???
The real question is- do you give them tails? 👀
Supremist?
Same. I have only played 5e and I just don't care.
Sometimes but usually no
I'm disappointed with what they offer. Fizban's is more fun.
i always give potentially tailed creatures tails
2024 finally gave them tails in art
i love tails
I put a tail on a Trandoshan, dragonborn can have them if they like.
I don't like dragonborn with tails because those are literally half-dragons.
...why am I imaginign a 'pin the tail on the donkey' game that ended very badly.
You know, I don't hear many people talk about Bahamuts brother, Null...
Fizban's gave them more unique abilities but the problem with fizbans is that they still didn't get darkvision and that some race abilities were just better than others
He is part of the outlands though
this streamlines the dragonborn as a whole while still providing benefits over their 5e counterparts
Regular Null, Regular Null, Regular Null
Not giving Dragonborn dark vision when they are literally descended from a species that commonly dwells in dark, cavernous lairs never made sense to me
They can fly longer than the Aasimar, who can fly for a whole minute lol
One minute to do a surroundings search or one combat use and you are done for the entire day
I have a feeling that my DM just canceled our spelljammer campaign before it even began. He just gave me back the 10 bucks I gave him to purchase spell jammers and said we talk about it later and he also gave another member of our DND party his money back as well
At least he paid u back
Even dwarves have dark vision!
At least there's that, but that's a real shame.
I've never seen it before, sorry for old news ^^; Just wanted to make sure people knew in case it's somebody they talked to in this server
do a war cleric
I've already done one
I'd be playing subclasses I haven't lol
Is it considered cannibalism if a lizard born eats a kobold? Where do we draw the line
Considering lizard folk eat other lizard folk probably would be okay
This was the first message I saw loading up and my brain went “They added Tails from Sonic in 2024????”
I'm asking if a lizard born eats a kobold is he now a cannibal
No because they are drastically different species. Cobalts are directly related to dragons whereas lizard folk evolves from semi-aquatic creatures that and their environments are completely different. One of them lives in mountain in the areas, one of them lives and swamps
Damn I thought lizard folk were more dragon based I could've sworn I asked someone
Thank you for the answer much appreciated I'll come up with another dumb question later
I personally consider any sapient being eating another sapient being cannibalism
Those are dragonborn
I thought dragon born were lizard people...?
does that mean eating dragons is more canibalistic?
Cannibalism is a strange one to apply to fantasy as for us it really more applies in the more scientific sense (a species eating another of the same species) but also to the concept of eating humans, aka, sapient beings.
eating a dragon or eating a human, as a human, is basically the same to me, yes
do we have a word for eating sapiant beings?
Your pfp looks awfully familiar who is it?
I just wanna play dnd. I don’t wanna work 😩
Play baldurs gate 3 at work with a steam deck
I don’t have a steam deck 😭
Helsing ultimate
"that was a 70 inch plasma screen tv"
Not properly. Anthrophagy refers to eating humans, cannabalism refers to eating the same species. Both have the nuance as well though of 'eating a sapient being'
Folk, try and stay on topic 😉
Im fairly certain kenkus will peck at anything that's passed on to the oblivion
Nah, they’d try and see if they have any valuables on them
How do you expect my birb to eat if he doesn't take what's already there
You think an Eldritch being is going to be allowed in a normal tavern?
There is also the more nuanced discussion of 'killing in order to eat something' and just 'eating a dead body, regardless what of'.
However.. it's a strange discussion and somewhat uncomfortable for some folk. Honestly cannabalism is one of those strange ones on the D&D Discussion bingo, but it certainly comes up a fair amount, and is in the lore...
I’d have a drink with an eldritch being given the chance
ah yes I'm sure the white run guards would love seeing an Eldritch 6"2 bird
You know...casual CURSED BEING
I am so annoyed right now so I end up talking to my DM to find out why he returned my money and we're not doing spell jammers anymore. Turns out one of the other players who literally when he was talking to the DM one time got so high that he forgot he had his mic off or was so high. He didn't even hear our dm talking. Got mad because me and another player went into the campaign believing that we were going to do rolled stats. We even talked about the rules for rolled stats and then the DM considered point by and he put it up to a vote and rolling the stats was considered the best option because it was picked by the most amount of people he rolled because we came to a medium ground. We won blah blah blah blah blah. He also quit out because the DM I guess sent him something on Facebook that was political cuz they are friends and they were talking about. I guess a subject around that matter and that's another reason he decided to quit out which I'm more annoyed cuz my brother was finally going to get to play his crazy war forge idea. But now that's being backline because we only have two players which really sucks right?
If you or your DM advertises the campaign, I'm sure y'all can get more.
Finding players is a little easier than finding DMs.
Sucks that that happened- hopefully if the DM is open to looking for new players you can get better ones. Maybe it was a dodged bullet.
#find-a-game has advice on how to look for players and how to use our own LFG channels.
The other thing that really annoys me about the other former player is he didn't pay attention to anything when it came to knowing me and the DM relationship he's like. From what I heard the DM kicked you out of a lot of his previous groups and I'm just thinking no you moron me and him were kicked out of the same groups because those groups did some awful things like allowing us a druid to take advantage of my character in the worst way possible and I only found out because another player mentioned it
Top 3 most rng/chaotic spells and items, ignoring the decks. Go!
Wand of Wonder!
It sounds like it is a very good thing that player left then.
Bag o'beans.
Wand of fireball in the hands of a trigger happy player
Wish.
Can’t argue with that
You're gonna kills us aren't you?
I've seen bag of beans be used very chaotically
Guys can you guess what this is?
||Ground shakes no stomps no scream,
Lurks under every adventurers dream,
Be ware to boulders who move,
Watch red eyes under groves.||
Mecha Godzilla :)
I'm planning to include this thing I made in my campaign, is this okay?
Nope
Aw man :(
I've managed to roll with it to fun results in a game. For some reason I read the pink toad result and decided everything it made was bright pink.
So when they rolled the pyramid and mummy lord I decided instead they just summoned the entire lair of the nearby lich who was already in the adventure and now was very confused as to why he was pink.
Lizardfolk are Lizard People, Dragonborn are Dragon People with breath weapons.
I already had one of the things listed 😈
_>;
You worry me, sir
Scatter.
Though wand of wonders at the level I am at would be more of a burden than fun
||I'm not sure exactly what it is but to me it sounds like a burrowing creature, who lives in treasure, and probably is grey colored. Sounds like a bulette or a burrowing dragon of some kind||
Wand of Wonder
BRO YOU GOT IT WTF
You are so smart
Is it a homebrew monster or the first one I mentioned?
Bulette
Did you get inspired by bg3 to use it or was it just something you looked at and were interested in
I'm thinking of scaring the shit out of my players when they are guarding a noble child through a meadow but if they stick untill night time they will be facing this guy
I'm just trying to know if my players actually pay attention on red flags
It depends on how your players react to it, also don't say curse words on here cause its against rules
just forewarning you cause they might ban ya or mute ya or something
Some words are allowed, but many arts. I recommend you don’t try your luck lol
I'm just surprised hahaha, I'm just worried because one time I tried to warn them that there's a shadow and since they think they can kill it they have nothing to damage it with so they just quited on a cr1 creature.
Indeed, please don't test the filters folk 😉 Generally best to try and remember that we have users as young as 13 and we'd rather avoid any topics or words that would not be appropriate for day time TV for kids.
But typically if a word isn't instantly auto-filtered, it's because we've chosen not to. However if you ever do see a word that really should be on a filter, please do report it to us!
So swear words are fine, but words for body parts are not.
I'm surprised they quit on a shadow. I would've just lit a torch and if it did manage to hide I would've made a perception check for it. It also only has 16 hp so
Yeah I tried to give them hints and I'm not even being mysterious, this time since they are lvl 3 I hope they try to learn from their mistakes
hi
As a player who has played in a game with a friend of mine, your "not so mysterious hints" may completely go over the players heads
We don't want to be overly strict, but as we have not all had a session 0 together to discuss boundaries, and certain words are associated with certain behaviours and topics, some may be noped as a preventative measure.
Again, just think twice about some comments. Another rule of thumb for folk that might be more familiar is 'Would this be a topic or theme that I might have to discuss in session 0 with a brand new player' and if so, might be best to avoid it or be very sensitive/cautious when bringing it up.
mostly because they don't have the foresight of knowing what the creature actually is, especially if they are new players
hi
hello
Aaaanywho, back to D&D.
Yep, def a good idea to try and give more clues than you think would be needed, as you already have more clues due to DM knowledge.
Do you know they just have to go back up the stairs and get the obvious cross on a wall I repeatedly show them but instead they just abandoned a poor child crying because of that shadow
Of course, you'll get one smart player where you give a single 'subtle' clue and they've guessed the entire plot already.
Well to them its probably just a cross
Yeah I gave lots and at that point I had to just hand feed it but they just chose to run thinking there is no way
me new to D&D
Do yall think I should play a spore druid or magical girl (boy?) inspired star druid?
Welcome new to D&D
Also another thing I learnt early on was never hide information you want the players to have behind a skill check. Just give it to who ever has the highest appropriate skill or reason to know.
I told them "it is a symbol noticeably emitting holy vibes that the shadow tries to stay away from"
Star druid star druid
Okay!!
Ah well thats kinda crazy
Ima make them a Tiefling
Dew it
No thanks
ouch
I'm going to actually make them an Aasimar, because that's that vibe I was going for
I'm trying to help them learn from things than me constantly giving them things, I know they try to minmax but I want to show them that there's more in the world than just fighting enemies
Now I'm trying to think of how to make a magical girl spore druid... I mean my spore druid is already quite the ethereal pretty girl, as I themed her off parasitic plants like indian pipes (Monotropa uniflora) and fairy lanterns (Thismia). Just missing the 'transformation' part that's key to being a magical girl >.>
What classes make the best magical girls?...
Inky caps melt?
Barbarians, for sure.
Maybe that
Undead warlock
I'm loving these responses.
I bet magical girls actually is best on monks
i'm always a fan of paladin magic girls, it's she-ra!
Does She-ra have any magical powers?
magical healing, for one
It got to be monk, shaved heads and their teams are called pinballs
How about Warlock for that gothic look female?
naw saber from fate
I'll also propose Wizard. In kind of your classic magical girl team, each one could take a different subclass and kind of fill in some archetypes.
unironically, a bald magical girl goes hard. Bald can be a stunning look, and monks are for sure stunning. What's their transformation?
new dnd campaign idea: we're all the cast of Monster High
yessss my OC is an undead warlock she’s one of the magical girls of all time
How old's the dragon? 👀
I know from experience that a level 5 party can snipe a young dragon out of the sky in a round without it even getting to it's turn if they roll well enough 😖 😞 😖
Yeah I stop doing solo young dragons at level 4 for players
what's scariest: 1 ancient dragon, 2 adult dragons, 4 young dragons, or 8 wyrmlings
An Ancient is always gonna be the scariest option
I don't wanna fight wyrmlings... I'd feel like I was killing babies, even if they were 80 or something
Know your parties' abilities before you put them up against monsters or else they kill the monster too quick or the monster kills them too quick
They're just so widdle and kyute
naw 8 wrymlings action economy of 8 breathweapons
Probably adults. While they don’t have the stats of an ancient 2 Adults is a wild amount of action economy with 2 Legendary Monsters
2 Adults is close
But, now that I'm really thinking about ir
8 Wyrmlings sounds like an adorable encounter lmao
1 of each color hehe
Because with 2 adults you got 6 legendary actions and 2 of their turns.
