And also the reason why incels are such a common target of mockery is because they’re a “safe to make fun of” misogyny, since they’re basically losers, and it’s easier to not admit that misogyny can manifest in people with power as well even though we all know it does
like his obsession with a woman who doesnt want him
He’s literally not an incel but he has the same basic mindset, although tbf that was largely taken from Dracula
since ravenloft is just gothic horror tropes in the DND setting
Yes, this is what I meant. Incels are safe misogynists. They're "losers". Due to many factors, it is easy to refuse them empathy. Mocking them is easier. And they have no social power, stereotypically. "Unsafe" misogynists are the ones like Strahd. In a way, they're more scary.
I guess I just dont like the term incel slung around as insult in general, because a big chunk of that population probably could become decent humans beings with a bit of therapy and non-toxic self help
I do think that the popularity of “incel” as an insult stems less from the misogyny aspect and more from the loser aspect tbh
sure but that is the problem with the insult
Hey y'all
I'm not new to DND but I'm new to playing DND if that makes any sense
Iv only been in a few games that flopped
I hope I can find a good game to join
I wna use my very dumb, very big lady Goliath name Astrid
Lmao she's like 12ft tall or some bull shit like that ,I don't remember atm
Shes dumb enough that she can't read or do math 😭
Lol whats her intelligence -17?
Yeah, what I’m trying to say is that I’m not against mocking misogyny, but I do think that the popularity of “incel” as a generic insult is more because they’re perceived as losers. Anyways, this js getting off topic
In earlier DND you needed an 8 intelligence to read
But she's doesn't really need it when she's got two sledgehammers for fists, her solution to most problems is to punch
"Goblin blocking Astrid path,Astrid punch"
Lmao given the chance Astrid will attempt to box a dragon
Have her box with a Marut
Yeah... good luck with that 😭
If you're in a situation where you have to fight a Marut, someone's really screwed something up
fun fact, in older editions of d&d, barbarians could not read
Oh yeah lol
Shhh
whats that
Ngl I hope I can find a Skyrim campaign at some point
Doesnt the Elder Scrolls series have an official ttrpg?
A very weak construct, mostly for T1 parties to use at as fodder
They have good melee damage tho
i see thx
Lmao, you're evil
Lime is lying unfortunately
You really think someone would do that? Just go on the internet and tell lies? 🐰
im running one but i got no spaces
i actually got an idea i wanna pass by someone
Go for it!
so my campaign is during 4e 170 year
1 year before the great war starts
THEY are lying, it is a weak construct
im thinking ima have the skyrim portion of the empire be ran by a centurion
(like 2 ppl below general i think according to a world anvil thing i found and using)
and im thinking maybe during this time its gonna be well protected roads in the area?
Its the truth
just unfortunate when someone is asking a question with no indication of not being serious
oh wait are those the astral plane guardian ones that can sever the link between soul and body or sth
Idea for fae: A slim shady fairy that asks "Can I have your attention please" to steal the players attention
Here's the entry from Monsters of the Multiverse: https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/2560866-marut
does anyone know if the thalmor did things to skyrim during the great war
No, Maruts are incredibly powerful constructs who are essentially multiversal contract enforcers
...yes thats like the whole plot of the game what
the events of the thalmor we see are all after
ight time to look them up ig, thx tho
on the wiki it doesnt really state they ever invade skyrim (from what i see) cuz they do hammer/blackmarsh/and cyidile
Non D&D related question go in #non-dnd-topics or else the mods get grumpy.
skyrim dnd
Guys what is a thunder dome?
"Two men enter, one man leaves!"
An arena where disputes are settled by combat, often lethally.
Yeah, it's a battle arena thing. It's from the movie series Mad Max. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mad_Max_Beyond_Thunderdome
Can you please specify what you mean by that?
One of my friends did a one shot and he described it as a thunder dome so I thought it was a D&D thing
My apologies
dnd game but skyrim setting
and it can be but fun quote
Nahh those are Astral Dreadnoughts which are CR21
I am imagining a fairy with bleach blonde hair, in oversized clothes, casting thaumaturgy
Maruts are CR5
Hmmmm I don't know if this is D&D enough for us to discuss here or if the mods will notice and punish us
Omg this is brilliant I am definitely stealing that idea
im doing a campagin set in 170 of 4e XD so im trying to figure out the world events that have or havent occured yet and how to mess with stuff
from worldbuilding point
itd be fun to add thalmor messing with skyrim but a much smaller force for a specific reason?
Well um... can we do this in dm's?
thats fine
thank you I've been trying to make this joke land for years and I realized it makes enough sense in a dnd setting that I should just make it a worldbuilding idea
(i dont dm unless told/offered lmao sorry)
Which civil war tho?
There's been a good number of them
You talking the most recent one aka the one we experience in Skyrim?
Yes they did,
Up to and including possibly being the ones to start the dragons coming back
I'm pretty sure this should probably go to #non-dnd-topics
But no, the Thalmor never reached Skyrim. Most of the conflict was set to the south of the continent. The north was untouched.
Asking for dnd reasons and bet
Share your sheet ( #character-discussion is best) and folk will chime in as and when.
Yes but it's still not really D&D lore or D&D mechanics or D&D worldbuilding or an actual D&D subject
I have a character build I am trying to confirm if this works. A warlock/circle of the moon druid with Master of Myriad Forms eldrich invocatio uses alter self, then wild shapes into a 4 legged creature. Then you can reactivate the alter self to transform into a different quadruped you didnt have the CR requirement for.
I don't know, just feels to me like the offtopic channel would be better
How it won’t let me show screenshots
You can use a site to host the image and link to that.
you really just can't say "but it's for D&D" and make it on topic.. the lore of skyrim or Pokemon or Jujitsu Kaisen would be more for#non-dnd-topics or for like a Skyrim server. How to put skyrim stuff into a D&D game, you could try homebrew.
did you mean CR25 because they are definitely not CR5 creatures.
I’m hungry
if you are using a place like D&D Beyond, you can share a link to the character sheet in #character-discussion - otherwise, an image file would need to be uploaded to an image sharing site like imgr then post that link for folks to view.
Vaguely Ranger related question, anyone know Abt God of War? Atreus is a Ranger right?
Ranger or Rogue
or a fighter with archery..
He's actually an illusionist because of his real name /j
spoilers...
It's been ten years
Nah, he's got nature magic
Doesn't use it enough to be a Druid tho
Does have a beast companion tho, further Ranger proof
that's not a nice way to talk about Kratos
so is curse of strahd, but we still have an adventure spoilers chat for when people talk about it in more detail. Can't assume everyone has already played it.. was just saying we were treading into spoiler territory. ❤️
definitely Ranger
Yo, I'm making a high elf Rogue and somehow he's supposed to know 3 languages not counting common, thieves cant and elvish, I've already decided to teach him Infernal and Celestial but I cant decide between; Primordial, Draconic and Deep speech(Because they seem cool even tho they might not make that much sense to know), would yall recomend one of those 3?
No, there is an unofficial one.
with bg3 logic he is just a traveling bard who has seen a ton of stuff and explains in his guides what he saw
Wait never mind! There is an Elder Scrolls ttrpg!
Draconic probably
They are old and magic just like the elves and are not from other planes. So they gotta live in the same world as each other.
Of course you can contrive other reasons for the other languages
Maybe your rogue’s criminal group is run by a Beholder so you know Deep Speech for example
Thanks! Thats actually a really good reason for why so it makes sense in game too
Thats also a really good point, all this does is make me think that with good creativity and language would fit really well, Thanks, man!
Admittedly I just took the idea of Xanathar the beholder who runs a crime guild for that one
Have fun and good luck!
Tysm!
Hello all!
Looking for advice,
I've recently stared a dnd group in the the NyC area and have reached nearly 40 people spread across 8 or so groups. Does anyone have any experience with maintaining/growing groups like this?
Quick background: I just started posting ads in city-specific sub reddits around 3 months ago and was able to start 2 groups. Month and a half later asked again and got another 2 groups. 2 weeks ago I had 32 people sign up 🙀.
Things I'm considering:
- Quarterly get together/monthly happy hours
- A few of us are already planning a ren-faire visit when its warmer
- Some sort of inter-party interaction (something viable, not trying to coordinate a 10-person party) either just for the meetups
Any horror stories I need to be aware of? I don't really know else to ask I'm kind of out of my element.
Thanks in advance!
Warlocks slowly becoming a 2nd fav class. Despite the limited spellslots
he’s not actually a bard lol he’s a wizard. which just makes him funnier
My favorite Caster is Cleric 😎
same 😎
I agree I find clerics fun
I ran a club like this in college. Similarly, we had like 8 DMs and like 40 players. We played in person twice a week.
We found it worked best if each “season” we had an overarching storyline. We scheduled events before play started. This required us to send weekly emails to DMs on reminders of events going on.
We also had to email players updates about levelling up and stuff.
We ended each season with a HUGE game in the same party room. We catered it with some pizza and pop (we expensed it to the school) and afterwards some of us hit the bars.
Let me know if I can offer any other stories or experiences!
My War Cleric, Karkas, was the most badass Cleric I've ever had, so, since then, it's been kinda hard for me to compare my other Clerics to him lol
War cleric owns. Light cleric is my favourite though
I can't even grasp how you run a game with that many people at the same time. How is this possible?
Honestly, when and IF my Knowledge Cleric dies
As we're going from Dragon Heist into Dungeon of The Mad Mage soon
I might replace him with A Light Cleric, idk lol
The fun thing about my Knowledge Cleric is.. we rolled magic items from a loot table last session
And he got a Robe of Eyes
So, now, he has True Sight ... at level 4
He got to see the poltergeist friend of ours last session because he can see into the Etheral Plane now!
If you’ve heard of it, these days people call it “West Marches”.
The way we ran it is that at the start of the session, in game, quests would be “posted” (there’s more fiction around this). Then the players self organize and walk off with a DM. They then play a full “one shot” - but all events are part of the wider world.
There’s more to it but that’s really the core.
4 to 5 is pretty okay
6 is going a little above lol
Source?
I'm in a party of 6 with
A Wizard (Me), Sorcerer, Warlock, Paladin, Ranger and Eldritch Knight Fighter
We have... many spells
That better be a pure eldrich knight
They are
And I'm a Bladesinger Wizard

So we've got the Martial trying to be a Caster and a Caster trying to be a martial /joking
Campaign im right now im a 12 eldric knight and manage to get my hands on an illisionist bracers. The dumb smile i had on my face said it all
They don't have a Rivalry at all
Probably because my Bladesinger is too kind and humble of a person to think he's better than anyone lol
can i cast channel divinity twice in one turn ?
My Bladesinger hit a NASTY triple nat 20 Steel Wind Strike last session lol, killed two major enemies and bloodied Two others
And yet he was telling everyone how impressed he was with them lol
Depends some use ur main action some use ur bonus action
My man just did a judgmental cut end
Can someone help me figure out how to run this minigame idea I have for a session I'm running tomorrow? I've got all the pieces I just need to figure out this one mechanic
He really did
Nope
He's a Harengon named Malaketh Dronnel
He's also
A pretty bubbly and upbeat fellow
And doesn't really think he's a good swordsman
If Malaketh was more of an arse and more
, he would be Vergil
Wait I should prob go to DM discussion my bad
This man is so friendly that when a Giant bloodied him and bowled him over in a hit
He told the giant they did a good job lol
he will return
Malaketh would probably kill less if I didn't already have a Hella merciful character I was already playing lol
Still got the arse God-Complex elf too
Sovis is an ASS
but he's compassionate towards those oppressed or suffering
He goes more out of his way to help people than the rest of the group has smh
Got Exploring Eberron on Friday!
It's pretty fun 👀
Nice
I played a Sahuagin Forge Adept Artificer for a oneshot last night
I’m really enjoying it, the Dhakaan lore is so cool, plus it lets me cast Arcane Eye from up to eight miles away!
That sounds really cool
Play a Sahuagin with a Martial or a caster that uses a lot of spell attack rolls
Blood Frenzy is such a fun feature
I'd say it's pretty good for Rogue since you can just get advantage on enemies that don't have their full HP
Exploring Eberron is neat, covers some fun parts of eberron lore
His name was Akarrhas, he accidentally rizzed up a Halfling Lady by removing a curse on her
They went on a date after the oneshot and I can imagine they're a happy couple now
Shark Man and Halfling lady lmao
im playing dnd for 3-4 years and a person who started a month ago knows dnd more than me
I have yet to play a artificer are they difficult to play when they reach higher levels
I thought so too
But Akarrhas was level 17
Had 25 AC (27 with using haste on himself) and had a Cloak of Displacement and barely anything could lay a hand on him while he was straight up pummeling them lol
He had a few items I didn't use, but I was having too much fun bonking and kicking ass lol
He made a Dragon Wrath longsword his Ghaal' Sharaat (?) Weapon and was able to throw it at things and have it return to his hand like a boomerang, it was fun
Funny thing is? He could've made its attack Bonus a part of his AC until the start of his next turn, which would've given him 30 AC since it had a +3 to hit and he has good armor with haste, but I didn't lol
I think I'll stick with my bards it seems like a lot
It surprisingly wasn't lol
All I did was get the heavily armorer feat, got Plate +2, a +2 Shield and a Ring of Protection (+1) with Haste (+2)
And then swung a weapon a bunch of times
Oh im talking for myself because i'm not experienced in them
creation
Im a big whispers fan
My favorite is Valor, though Glamor and Dance are fun as well
I'm not really a big bard enjoyer personally though
nah its a three perfect judgement cuts
I think I love the idea of bard, a party member who writes the tale of the party with their own flourishes. That being said I do think the mechanics of the class don't "wow" me too often
I have an Idea for a Halfling Valor Bard as a back-up character for if one of my lads die lol
Being a Jack of All Trades is nice, at the minimum..
The only part where bards often lack is damage
Well in a recent campaign I'm playing a grave cleric
And a college of whisper bard multiclass
It's very fun
I love the bardic inspiration mechanic, it can be a way cooler way to be good at something imo
But that's mostly because I find reliable talent boring
hello hows everyone
Fine. Chilling, waiting for the next episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Just wrote down the layout of every single level of the megadungeon I have been thinking of for months. Wrote down my plans for the next few sessions of the Shadowrun game I'm running. All in all, a good lazy sunday
Great show by the way. An inspiration, I think. It has a lot of heart.
also i have a question can i make phycic/telekinesis character with lvl 1?
Uh yeah. Just be a spellcaster.
You want mage hand, telekinesis, bigby's hand... Lots of spells that are telekinetic in nature.
And I guess we might be getting an actual psionic class soon enough
Yep spellcasters are good ways to play that fantasy. There's the psion in the future possibly
But thinking about it: I've been getting a bit angry recently about how a lot of games I have been in failed to strike the proper balance between humour and seriousness.
I actually left a game due to that not too long ago. Well, it was mostly due to one player being an absolute annoyance
Juvenile humour is not my thing, I must say. I think proper comedy comes from the situation. It needs to be spontaneous and not distract from the situation but actually focus on it.
Even if your humour is crass, there is a difference between South Park jokes and Family Guy jokes, you know?
can someone help me with a question abt roleplaying please? or is this not the right channel to ask?
It is better to ask than to ask to ask.
that true
And, you know, there's no way to know if this is the right channel before you ask the question
My DM is letting me play the UA necromancer, yippee
so like i want to make my players want to roleplay more rn they dont rlly and also 1 of the 4 isnt serious and another 1 is like half serious any tips how to change that?
its my 1st time dming so idrk yk
OK so "roleplaying" is a very vast concept.
What exactly do you mean by "roleplay more"? Do you want their characters to have meaningful interactions with NPCs? With each other?
interacting with the world and npcs and eachother in character rather than "I do that..."
Alright. So my advice is that you need to start.
like to initiate the conversation for example?
First, create a situation where they wouldn't agree on what to do. Where discussing the right course of action is necessary.
It depends on your setting and the situation, of course. Tell me, right now, what are the PCs doing?
rn theyre in a forgotten civilization flesh corrupted dungeon type place
Uh. Not exactly the sort of place where complex discussions can be had without a lot of effort on your part.
except for the boss not really
But for an example, why not have NPCs from civilization also exploring this place? While dwelling in the dungeon, the PCs find traces of a campfire left by people who also descended in this place before them. The ashes are cold, but it can't be older than a few days. Then the party may meet those NPCs who descended there, and perhaps they found madness and corruption. Or a powerful artefact.
And maybe that expedition killed each other because of that, leaving two survivors. One who wants the artefact brought back to civilization to be studied and used for the benefit of others, the other who wants that artefact destroyed
It's just an example, of course. But where there is conflict, especially relatively morally grey or amoral conflict, there is more roleplaying opportunities
Something I do is whenever the players want to persuade, deceit or intimidate someone, I ask them "and what do you say and/or do?" And that'll help them get into character a lil bit
I also like to lower the DC and/or give them advantage if they do a really good job at what they say too
guys what do yall think can a new player whos never played dnd become a dm?
That’s what I did
cuz my friends never played dnd and i dont wanna be a dm
dang ur good thanks
thats also good advice appreciate it
It's possible I suppose but wouldn't recommend
not that i dont want to its just i wanna be a player bc i like it more
and a introverted dm is worse than a bad dm
I chose to be a DM to make the process easier
And heck no
This is untrue
i think if you have played alr and they didn't for their experience and even urs its best if you do it bcuz u alr know how things work and go yk what i mean
Also have you tried DM’ing?
I don’t remember talking to you about DM’ing is all
and u like know good worldbuilding and stuff for example one of my players who is new gave me a really shallow backstory which is hard to work with which isnt a bad thing but imagine that for the bbeg and npc and everything, or a chatgpt entirely made character
i did try dming with my brother and either my story was too boring or he just wanted to do something else or he doesent like dnd
- solved by using a module
- solved mildly by 1) and also by expectations
- solved by finding another group
So just run a module with another group
i cant find a group and idk how to write a campaign story
do u run homebrew or regular 5e
Modules are pre written
And finding a group is far easier as a DM
um
Hello
I am very new to dnd and want to start a campaign, would anyone be willing to teach me how things properly work, i understand most of the mechanics but there are things i struggle with understanding
There's some helpful resources in #dnd-newcomers I'll have the links set up
Sorry to interupt. I have a question about the cantrip spell "Spare the dying".
Can you use it to create a pacifist character?
If you inflict a life ending injury on an enemy when you attack, for example an arrow to the head, can you use the spell to both "stabelize" them and get rid of the injuries too?
what are you struggling with? i can try, i been playing for quite some time, mostly homebrew tho and currently dming
idk is it just me or i think that illusion spells are a bit op
Not quite. It'll prevent them from dying but it doesn't really heal them per say
Someone that's stabilized doesn't need to make death saving throws but are still unconscious
I have been listening to some podcasts so i know abour storybuilding, i struggle more with player actions ans mechanics, like AC, spell slots, weapons, and my biggest question is how to find people to play with
Like what spell?
idk like invisibility or minnor ilussion or some stuff idk
Not really
u can try to ask ur friends for people to play with for example or find a group online
Out of combat, they can be really good when used by a creative player, not quite OP tho. There aren't many (if any) illusion spells that are good in combat
Illusion spells get counteracted by truesight, minor illusion also rarely works out the way you want it
The only "OP" illusion spell I reckon is Mirror Image
no, illusion is not a school that particularly stands out
also player actions and the things uve listed arent really specific so idk how to help but if u wanna specify ill try
i think its preety cool
A reminder that invisible individuals can still be detected (and everyone knows the location of them in combat)
Unless they Hide
would Hypnotic Pattern count as an illusion? if so, that's also good
But in a roleplaying aspect, can you use it on someone whos head was chopped off?
gimme a scenario and ill do it with illusion spells
Hypnotic pattern is very good, fair
You are being chased down a hallway by 3 guards, one of them with crossbows and the other two with hand axes
Probably not, not much to spare there
No, spare the dying doesn't work on creatures who are already dead
Only those who are dying
The guards know the place well
that's the equivalent of checking the vitals of a person who has been decapitated, I reckon
make it look that ceeling collapsed with an illusion spell and just turn into a item or use invisibility?
Which spell? A lot of them don’t provide the necessary noise
You cannot create those effects using illusion spells
And invisibility doesn’t stop you from being detected here
They see you disappear and can still hear you
oh
Also, no offense, really flawed plan
sad 🙁
did i mention throwing a bomb on them
Guards may also be trained in seeing through illusions
See, the bomb is a good idea (assuming everyone already knows where you are)
Yeah, Minor Illusion only covers about a 5ft cube, so you can't make any meaningful illusions, even Major Image is only about 20 ft cube, so no illusion spells can save you there, you either just gotta kill them or sneak
Remind me to never bring nugget to an airport
Oi
I don't know, explosives would only create noise and attract more guards
Hence assuming everyone already knows where you are
Can't be more guards if you kill all of them
No quarter
are bombs expensive in DnD?
Was more inclined towards just fireball
The real answer for solving everything with illusions? "I cast Illusory Dragon"
ok then teleoathy or phycic powers are OP
eh
But how does dying work? Like, "you get an arrow through your head" (0hp) you start rolling death saving throws, someone uses "Spare the dying" on you? And youre okay?
Or does the DM need to specify that you reached 0HP from non-lethal injiries?
not really
gimme a scenario 😭
Telepathy only can get you so far, and psychic powers in dnd aren’t all too impressive
A lot of subclasses based around psionics have telepathy, and thats not why theyre OP
oh
telepathy also doesnt inherently give you access to reading people's minds
Traversing over a rickety bridge, surrounded by goblins.
You send out a telepathic message, thats it. Some telepathy features let you make a network between creatures you choose to communicate back with you telepathically
Yeah the feat is just one way
rickety?
not stable
Unstable
Hey, you just Echo'ed my words!
hm use jump and imagine its telekinesis 😭
Echo this Summons Echo Knight
Ah, another perfect situation for fireball.
Whisky that is.
Get the gobbos all drunk on fireball whisky.
(then blow them up with a fireball spell)
or use telekinesis and make it collapse and use feather fall and goblins will die of fall dmg
Echo this Summons Echo Knight
... well played
im smart "
Now, do you need help bagging Narcissus?
That's not how it works
🙁 howw
Telekinesis is a 5th level spell
it's not like in the Stranger Things show
i meant like psychonic powes
Even better, I can BE Narcissus (Changeling baby let's go)
as much as people talk about stranger things... i've never seen the show.
awh
Psions don't exist (yet)
i feel like youd stay in your true form all the time
its good i mean the first few seasons lol
I sadly don't have netflix
I actually do, what the hell man
ugh i mean like mind stuff
watch on yt lol
I can see your miiiind
use your mind.... to cast regular spells~
um
"Psionics ("mind stuff") refers to the use of raw mental power—willpower, intellect, and emotion—to directly influence, manipulate, or rewrite reality without the need for verbal, somatic (gesture), or material components"
So yeah, Psions are "like mind stuff"
😐 i dont want to play dnd anymore
plenty of psionic subclasses
Helllooo
although the exact mechanics have flip flopped alot in the 50 years of dnd
Any games being played today? One shots etc?
Yeah but the class "Psions" are an actual upcoming class, is it not?
yeah
no set release yet
very likely this year
still betting on it sitting in the shelf with Mystic.
You can't just quit because you can't do whatever you want, remember it's a team game, and the stuff you want to do is possible, with just the right spells, just not the spells you're thinking of
It's much more balanced than Mystic was lol
my impression was that the community reception to the playtest was good
so i doubt they gonna shelf it
and Stranger Things isn't a very good representation of DnD anyway.
i would be hella surprised if they touch Dark Sun at all
well.
i doubt dark sun is going to be updated but im pretty sure psion will get released somehow
(technically speaking. theyre supposed to be playing 3e or something)
better representation would be Dungeon Meshi, The Legend of Vox Machina, The Mighty Nein, etc.
I think they might, but even if they back out, then there is a decent chance its gonna end in a different (of everything) book
Dungeon Meshi is based off another media
slayers is the best representation
Ehhhh...
better, not good
The best representation of D&D is D&D 😔
Wizardry or something i think is the inspiration of Dungeon Meshi
Also I am biased, because Dungeon Meshi is a food anime and I like food
its definitely wizardry. wizardry is HUGE in japan
ah, so it is called Wizardry, wasnt too sure if that was the name
Might be a Multiverse Book if Hasbro lays the final smackdown on the Dark Sun setting book
Was that ever explored in the show?
my dad loves wizardry so im somewhat familiar with it lol
No, just based off the time its set in, that would have been the edition theyre playing in
I don't recall, all I know about Stranger Things is that they use Vecna, and that the finale sucks
they definitely arent playing 3e the show is set in the 80s. theyd be playing adnd
Ah yes, Soyjack Vecna
oh wait, 80s? Me thought it was more recent, huh
Nah late 70s to mid 80s era
yeah, ADND
i havent actually watched stranger thigns lol
The arrow through the head example might be up to the DM but that's the general premise of it, and yes it has to be non lethal
Dropping to 0hp means you're unconscious, not dead. And rolling death saves. Spare the dying just only stabilizes someone which means they don't need to roll the death saves but are still unconscious
It's basically a "stop bleeding out" spell
It's terrible
Actual Vecna and Demogorgon would feel mocked by the creatures named after them lmao
It's weird cause of how long the show took to conclude due to writer strikes and covid
i know it got review bombed recently or something and the finale wasnt good
its in fact a strange thing
they used AI in the show, or so I'm told
Yeah the second half of the final season had a GoT season 8 moment.
ew
Where the whole show has a mid episode at worst but then final stretch kinda craps the bed
I'm not sure if it's spoilers to answer and/or ask, but is vecna in stranger things not the dnd vecna? 🤔
No
Ehh, we've seen... stranger things 🥁
Nope, not even close in power either
Not at all
The DnD cast just use whatever bbeg that's in their dnd game to describe the monsters
yeah from what i understand they're labeling the monters that because its what they're playing
Vecna lost to a couple of kids in the show
D&D Vecna has the potential to destroy and recreate ALL of reality
||1st was Demogorgon, the 2nd was Mind Flayer then 3rd was Vecna||
That makes sense 😅 I haven't watched stranger things and I'm actually running vecna eve of ruin so my current hyperfixation is vecna
i feel like you dont need to spoiler that at this point in time Sora
True
spoiler season is loooong done for anything before s5
D&D Demogorgon has a cooler design imo
But I like Stranger Things Mindflayer a lot design wise
Only thing DnD vecna and ST vecna have in common is that they're both fleshy bags of meat
and then there's Vecna...
You should look at Vecna BEFORE he became a Lich, he was REALLY beautiful lol
ohh my...
Thank you for enlightening me, Tokii
There's an art Piece of Vecna and Kas sitting at a table talking about the destruction of Oreth and my GOD...
There's actually an illustration of vecna before he became a lich in the vecna eve of ruin book and he is indeed handsome 🙂↕️
Yep, he and his beautiful "roommate" spent a lot of time together
Awh he has a roommate 😔
I wish there was a Statblock for Vecna when he was still human tbh
Tokii has good taste
i feel like it would be a Humanoid (Human) Lich
You know what'd be fun
Have Vecna be present in an adventure he's the bbeg in but disguised as his former humanoid self
I'd let him step on me...
What?
I just had an idea to make up a reason why Poison effects Warforged.
These inventors made it an intentional design flaw to test out if the food they eat is poisoned.
He was an elf right? I forget, I didn't look at the art long enough to remember
Or was he human
that is not a ridiculous thing to say
Idk why I thought he had pointy ears in that art
Elves are typically depicted with long blonde hair right?
Mightve just been normal human pointed ears tho
Wasn’t Vecna a half elf?
its the pretty boy effect. Honestly, he reminds me of movie Thranduil
Maybe he was a Half-Elf?
Or maybe that's just a trait of humans on Oreth
wiki describes him as once-human king
Kas had pointy ears too IIRC
Specifically, hes Flan
Seems there's different lore over the ages that said he's a half elf once so might be where some confusion is
Sources I'm finding are saying he's human
Vecna but flumph
Speaking of Vecna. I like Exandria Vecnas design
You mean the Whispered One?
Ye
im meh on it
looks like any other lich i can think of
now the one with flowing red robes and spiked collar, that i can get behind
i thought liches were generally human wizards
They can be any race
Like Valindra Shadowmantle is an Elf lich
fair but vecna was created back when there were more restrictions on that kind of thing
Usually, but it's an apotheosis that can be achieved by anyone with the know-how and willingness to sacrifice.
either way im like 99% sure he was called a former human
I'd say generally liches were human wizards
Ssazz Tam was human, Valindras an Elf, Vecna was human, Accerack was Cambion
Yeah Acererak was a Demon before being a lich
Cambion.
i thought cambions were devils
50% human, and the nameless hordes represented by a statblock.
I believe cambion just refers to half-fiend, devil or demon passing.
They are part any fiend
Sammaster was another human
Acererak’s father was a Balor
fair
Raerlin was another human
Cambions can be half devils or half demons, they are the offspring between humans and full devils/demons. But they are for sure fiends
lots of humans. IG we just got more to gain than other races
Ebondeath was a dragon /jk
Also we just have more Humans than other races in DnD
from what i understand liches are often the result of wizards trying to extend their lifespan
Also being a Lich gives you more power too
and achieve greater power. You know what humans are most known for? Shorter lifespans and a craving for power and more
Sometimes the world's just too big, and that which needs to be discovered requires more time.
yeah exactly
Like becoming a Lich does give you way more benefits than just longer life too
Yeah, and you can even hide the unsavory part of it with magic, too. Valindra does.
An elf got time. Dwarves have no care for the arcane. Halflings too busy enjoying the worlds bounty, Gnomes busy creating more things or enjoying the small animals. Goliaths and Dragonborn too proud
One day i will have a Goliath vampire BBEG
There's quite a few elf liches, honestly. Apparently, it's not enough time.
o feel those were the most ambitious individuals
It makes more sense for Humans to want to become Liches tbh
or the most unfortunate
Was Strahd human? I know he has the super long ears but that could just be a vampire thing.
Right, thus there's more human liches in comparison.
human im seeing yeah
Aarakocra with their 30 years of life
im pretty sure strahd was human
He just had connections to elves
Strahd was a human, yes, a Barovian prince.
if im wrong correct me
Not just because of Lifespans, but even Humans in D&D are so ambitious they're willing to commit atrocities to accomplish their goals (Not all of them, but a lot of the evil ones) which is quite a realistic depiction of Humans lol
A lot of other species kinda fear them apparently
Netherese exists as ruins for a reason
yeah humans in dnd have a reputation for ambition
looks at Orcs
Orc Lich would be sick.
dragonborn lich
Orcs are... Different. Forgotten Realms lore has a certain way of portraying them
Like an Eldritch Knight Lich
Their respawn takes longer but they have a lot of "nuh uh I'm not dead yet."
wait wait wait. tiefling lich
ner’zhul would like to know your location
So Acererak
I... think Humans are way more ambitious and way more willing to do things outside of cultural limitations
In Forgotten Realms lore, the orcs are generally the most devout people in the world. The orc gods have a great cultural hold on them, and orcs live to prove themselves to their gods. And dying in combat against the enemies of the people is seen as a great reward. So for an orc to become a lich, that orc would have to have completely forsaken the most fundamental tenet of their religion
So Gruumsh just needs to say "Liches are ok." and we got way more Liches
Magblyuet (or whoever) is someone else
Acererak is right there
He's a Cambion
Moreover: Orcs are not personally ambitious. They are always portrayed as being extremely "community minded".
would two chromatic orbs be better than one chromatic orb + a different spell on a sorcerer?
That's the goblin one. Literally Gruumsh's archenemy
what
Thats for the Goblins
yeah, i was saying it's not him
so like. are cambions tieflings?
This too,
Becoming a Lich is an INCREDIBLY selfish process
Gruumsh and Maglubiyet are natural enemies. Like Gruumsh and Corellon. Or Gruumsh and Lolth. Or Gruumsh and Moradin. Or Gruumsh and his reflection in the mirror.
Very close. Just a tad more fiend than humanoid
gruumsh and shar should team up tbh
Blurred lines like Dragonbron and Half Dragons
Gruumsh hates everything
everyone hate shar
Uh... Traditionally, a cambion would be the parent of a tiefling. Cambion are like 50/50 while tiefling tend to be more diluted
yeah im not super familiar with 5e lore so im still learning stuff. that makes sense
Nah, he likes his wife and some of his sons. I don't know if he has daughters though
Re reading Eragon and man is it making me want to make and play another Drakewarden lol
I still count Acererak because he's the only Fiendish individual I've known to become a Lich, but there's probably more
I know it isnt exactly 1-1 but its close enough
speaking of fiends...
Yes, yes, Incubus is here
what if i put Incubus in the bag
...
Don't.
Do not the Incubus
are incubi still demons btw?
Hey, incubus, do you count as a CR 15+ creature
nope, theyre not demons, devils, or even yugoloths. Theyre just general fiends
cool thanks
they played both sides iirc, then defected
Incubi and Succbi are their own thing
Though some incubi and succubi actually joined one side or another.
Like Demogorgon's ex
What did you join
For example, Her Magnificience Malcanthet is a demon lord and a succubus.
I am not that kind of incubus.
im a tressym so i have no ball in this game
You know who treats Mal with such respect?
and I'm an Echo
Tokii and Ti are obsessed with proving I am actually a fiend, but they can't. There's no proof. It's their rampant paranoia
Im a F(r)iend then
You do have a suspicious amount of knowledge
The Fey have their eyes on you.
hey, are you resistant to fire damage?
I've never seen Incubus and a Fiend in the same room
you have now
Incubus probably got rid of his own fire resistance to blend in with the rest of us
what about poison damage?
Only because of a magic item.
suuuuure
Riiiiiight....
Monk main.
pics or it didnt happen
Tragic.
My culture (not having fire resistance) is not your costume.
What Isn't resistant to poison?
wait, your name has a warlock icon next to it...
Undead, Constructs, Elementals
I may or may have not triple stacked smites and may or may have not turned a swordsman into ash
My Harengon Wizard
He's Vulnerable to poison damage rn lol
im not 🤔
Most humaanoids
How
Because confusion is the way to ascension. One must spread lies and contrary informations until the concept of truth itself becomes unapproachable. Only then may one set fire to the pillars of society and then feast on the ashes
Dm just allowed me to use all my smites that i have
2014 Eldritch Smite and Divine Smite with a Smite spell perhaps?
yeap, demon
So you just... Jacob's Ladder that fool?
And he said "how do you want to do this" so yk i had to make it sound extremely exaggerated
ok ulysses you're still totally a fiend
... how many Philosophers were fiends i wonder now
Yesn't
aristotle and that guy who wanted to just sit around all day
Diogenes cant possible be a fiend. Hes too human
everyone except Diogenes
Hey I just Echo'ed your words!
Or politician!
Look we were dead, sent to purgatory (kind of), met the grim reaper, could only come back to life if we win against a very cocky swordsman in a colloseum. Can you blame me for wanting to come back to life? Besides we were kinda running out of time for the session
Plato was definitely neither fiend nor human
you know them to be synonyms
That is very insulting to demonkind.
plato was the precursor to "umm ackshually" reddit dudes
its befitting for demonkind
We might be cancelled
Come on, they're not THAT evil
Oh, i just found out about a stone giant lich
The Abyss is the embodiment of primal evils and fears, made by the Elder Evil of elementals
which is used as a prison for its creator
im a tressym pretending to be a cat pretending to be a wizard pretending to be a cleric btw
ya know how [Redacted] up you have to be to get the Atlas treatment under your own creation?
anyway, i need to make a Stone Giant lich
starting to think my dm has smth against me, ive been critted 6 times in 2 combats
The return of Dodkong
could just be really unlucky, but if you have a suspicion, start keeping track
You guys want to hear a couple of the magic items my character has at level 4 from our DM? They're pretty broken but cool. 🤣
I'm gonna share anyways.
The first one is Gloves of Quick Casting. She can cast a spell as a bonus action if it normally takes an action and it ignores the 'one levelled spell per turn' rule. So she can cast two spells in one turn if she wants to! It has two charges per long rest.
Then she has a Shortsword of True Strike which simply gives her advantage on every attack with the Shortsword.
The SHortsword isn't all that broken.
Yeah probably not but the gloves MMMMM
The sword is at least useful since I don't have many ways to get advantage right now. I'm a level 4 War Cleric.
And multiple spells cast per turn can be fine as long as the DM is ready to compensate accordingly.
dont war clerics already have a BA attack
BA Attacks, sure, not Bonus Action Spellcasting + Ignoring the 1 Spell that's not a cantrip per turn rule.
oh wait, 2014 True Strike
Yeah it's a 2014 game.
it would still be Adv on your next turn though, innit?
If it was 2024, I don't think I would have gotten the Shortsword. 🤣
Nope, the description isn't the same as the title. It's just a sword that gives you adv every time you use it.
So if you have 5 attacks on one turn, you'll get advantage for all of them. It's a straight advantage.
I mean, getting to cast a spell as a BA is pretty good, especially on a cleric. BA spirit Guardians or Bless, then other things
Yeah I do BA Bless and then attack in some way. Later I'll definitely be doing BA Spirits.
It was cool for the last combat. I did Bless and then Guiding Bolted the enemy.
I could do Spirit Guardians then Command the enemies to approach 🤣 That'd be so mean
Approach + SG is pretty cool
I wish 2014 I could do that silly SG trick where you walk around in each enemies' space and they have to save. But sadly that's a 2024 thing.
Do any of yall have a song that fits the said vibe:
It's a guy who is honestly a good guy bit is corrupted by a higher being into attacking the party because he thinks it's right, even though he doesn't want to
Like a theme that is melancholic boss fight thing
(I was thinking of finding a remix of a battle against a true hero)
Coronial Radiance, Immolation of the Heavens
both by Hoyomix
A song with lyrics I can see "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid".
But I can see that song in a lot of contexts.
1 is too chill the second is too mad ;-;
No lyrics sorry, Id prefer just a song
Fair
Hello my friends I have a question for you. What would a group of dragons be called a flock a herd or a scourge
I call dragons a flock
Guardian Arkveld theme
What would be the proper name for a group of dragons?
almost crying of joy, the party i'm dming is having a proper sorcadin joining so they'll finally see more than 20 damage a turn combined
Breathing, Flight, Wing, Clutch, are the common terms
I love dnd even though I’ve never played
its good, mostly a good community to pick
Ok and does anyone have a vibe like the winner takes it all song for a boss ending?
somewhere over the rainbow 👍
There wouldn't be a word for that. Cultures develop words relating to their experiences. Like how inuits have a lot of different words for snow, you know? Any culture that would have been subjected to dragons acting as a group multiple times would never have survived long enough to make a word for it
I would simply call it a "hide and pray"
I'm going to be playing an Aarakocra Necromancer. He's a Vulture. How should I flavor his spells?
(Like ideas for concepts)
Prolly bones, lots and lots of bones
i gave my necromancer a crow familiar. fits the vibe, and super useful.
find familiar's a must
I was gonna give him a rat familiar
I was gonna ask my dm if I could have a crawling claw as a familiar
so yeah, did some looking around:
- Guardian Arkveld theme
- Ellegy of Netherwing
- Sunslayer
- Afterglow in Dust
- Infernal Blaze
A hoard of dragons.
(Its CR 0 with nothing interesting besides being flavorful)
ask your dm if you can use the unearthed arcana 2025 necromancer and then you get find familiar for free and can use it to get a skeleton or zombie familiar at lv3
You play a lot of hoyoverse huh
Ima do that :3
Only HSR, but im retired. Much like Guilty Gear though, i firmly believe both are music companies that also happen to make games
Fair
... wait, Arknights should have a lot of those themes.
ugh, too many songs, forgot how much they make
anyway, back to Isaak Wolf
Looks at their frequently used song Our Own Heart, Clear, and Serene Hand, Like Raging Flames. Gundam has had some great music.
Okay so I asked my brother and he said I should stick with 2014 and just have a cat reflavored as a skeleton
Like a skeleton cat
I have looked at it, and it looks really cool tho!!
A squirrel knight should right it. In search of the Great Acorn.
Oooh, Gundam is also a good one. Three Times the Passion of Ordinary Flamenco lives rent free in my mind
First time playing anything other than warlock
Also Six Times the Passion of Ordinary Flamenco, because they apparently needed to multiply it by twice more
What’s the vibes of someone irl that plays warlock
Ilmater sounds like a chill god ngl
too varied.
Definetly a perfect deity to choose for a lawful good cleric
Chill is a strange word to use for the god of martyrs
He's a pretty intense god.
tyr is also good for lawful good clerics
Just curious wonder if this has ever happened lol. Just rolled a triple nat 1 XD. intimidation check with advantage and guidance, three 1s 😂
Ilmater is a being that suffers for other beings
That's pretty metal
Yeah it's a very customizable class, you can make vastly different warlocks from someone else
I have an idea for an Orc or Goliath Cleric of Ilmater because I feel like his followers would be those who ENDURE
Is there an innocuous wild animal with decent mental stats? I was thinking of polymorphing an ally into an animal to disguise them while we were wanted by the church, but polymorph makes you as dumb as the animal you turn into and I'd like to mitigate that as much as I reasonably can.
2014 or 2024?
2024
Well, you also have to consider that they retain personality even as a beast
So, if your friend was cautious or is aware of what's going on, I think they'd retain that
It's not like beasts are completely stupid lol
Could just turn them into a spider or something small and carry them with you if you're worried about that reduced Intelligence, I suppose
Does anyone have any suggestions/tips on sprucing up battlemaps for dry-erase mats? Currently I have one and it's really nice! But I feel like it's lacking a bit in terms of visual aid. Most of the time I scribble on it to show the general terrain, but I feel like it's not as good as having something like a printed out battlemap that has little details like crates, bags, etc., basically clutter. I know imagination is key for things but I want to add some helpers for the players (since a lot of them are new). Maybe I could do something like, add some beads/pebbles/etc. to represent mundane items, and players that interact with it can come up with something they think would fit in the area they're in?
Print and laminate tokens for terrain and furniture. Use a bit of blu-tac or similar to stick them onto the battlemap.
Oooh great idea, thanks!
Heyyy
If you really want to be cunning, make them double sided.
Treasure chest, intact or broken. Tree with leaves or bare branches. Sections of wall in intact and ruined versions.
I'm new here
Welcome to the server :>
I'm Tokii :p
Nice to meet you
You too, friend :>
Mhm
You know,im actually a good friend with someone here that I haven't talked to in months
Hopefully you get to talk to them again soon
I texted him actually and im waiting for him to reply
Printable heroes does terrain that you can run off on a normal printer and stick it together with pritt stick.
There's also a YouTube called crooked staff terrain which does slightly fancier stuff but it's a bit more effort.
In terms of scatter that is good to have, I use pillars and trees far more than any of the other stuff I have. I feel crates and barrels are mostly gonna be up against a wall, slightly reshaping the room. Whereas pillars, trees, and rocks are more middle of arena scattery.
I'm waiting for
A few hours
Gonna play more of my Tabaxi Thief Rogue, Lockpick, tonight
Are there any resources on the web that teach tactics for D&D combat encounters?
Watching live shows help
True
Does anyone know what Carter is doing?
no one know who Carter is.. there are 10's of thousands of members on this server.
if you know this person, contact them via DM or phone.
who is that
Someone in the server
bruh
What?
Check Keith Amman. Google the guy
I just bought a starter set from micro center idk how to play but I want to with friends can anyone teach me?
I can teach you, if you wish, I'm an bit of an noob myself, and I may get some things wrong, but I can help.
There's some starter links in #dnd-newcomers I'll have the bot post them
Sure
#dnd-newcomers message check these out
Ok thx bro
This server has just shy of seventy thousand online people. That's just the ones who are currently online right now
everyone out of 70000 people online is gonna answer now whether they know Carter XD
I hope he sees my message
Session last night went great! Party just stole a giant spelljammer barge from the City of Brass, teleported it to the Calim Desert where they had an army waiting to sack the ship, and are about to take on the Efreeti they've been warring with on the main deck
If you want to communicate with one person in particular, send them a DM.
You oughta just text Carter yourself, the messages will get buried here
Please get back on topic - D&D is the topic
yeah they'll prob explain it better then I can, although sometimes the rules can be an bit hard, ask me if you have any further questions!
Back to D&D please
Steering us on topic, is it silly to play a draconic bloodline sorcerer as a dragonborn? How would y'all flavor it
Why would it be silly? It kinda writes itself
Not at all. It’s a pretty common class combination
In fact another bloodline on a dragonborn seems much more at risk of being silly
Can someone tell me how I can share my dnd beyond character, just to get peoples opinions on if I did a good job with my first one 😅
I'm looking for resources that teach tactics to players, not DMs
Dragonborn: "I feel the power of Dragons in my blood."
Idk if I'd do like 75% dragon 25% humanoid or a dragon that's two different colors 🤔
He also did that.
#character-discussion awaits
Thanks!
Because I have a player who seems to have zero instinct for tactical combat
I think dragonborn on their own are related to dragons very thinly in that they lost Dragon creature type and the tail and wings so to be additionaly a draconic sorcerer is to reconnect with lost roots
Also they are aliens form another world
Shoutout to the dudes in Abeir fighting for their life now that their planet is sinking into darkness
more like alt-people from the parallel world
OOHH I like that a lot!!!!! Thank you!
This is super helpful, appreciate it!!! Thank you!
have them play a Mystery Dungeon or Grid Tactics game
Alina of the Arena is a solid roguelike Deckbilder which is good for learning grid movement, positioning, and sequencing :3
Roguelike/lites are a good genre to learn in because you're generally exposed to several different strategies of play which also helps in learning what to expect from The different archetypal positions in combat
Dragonborn from the realms are a servant species created specifically to serve dragons. They didn't care for this very much and attempted to rebel. The closest they got to victory against their dragon masters was Tymanchebar.
Sucks that Tymanchebar was whisked away to Toril during the spellplauge. Those left behind were quickly taken back over by the evil dragon Empress of Laerakond. Those that went to Faerûn founded Tymanther and would proceed to have the worst time.
Does anyone know any good servers for finding online groups? I was in one where players and DMs could make posts advertising their games but it seems that I'm no longer in it for some reason.
I was wondering the same thing
please check out #find-a-game to discover how our Looking-for channels work.
so... is any dm around here looking for one guy to fill in an empty player slot for a game soon?
i want to play a session before the weekend is over
i know about find a game but i cant sort by how soon they start
we only allow group solicitation/formation in our looking for channels.
have you checked #looking-for-players ?
The anatomy of a centaur baffles me
yeah and they all started an hour ago at best
Like where are the lungs of a centaur located?
How long is the esophagus of a centaur?
unless someone reaches out to them and they say "oh yeah bring them in" i dont have a chance (sorry for interupting kitsune)
Check the listings in #looking-for-players for games that want people, read the details, respond as appropriate and cross your fingers.
Type /looking and select the option for #looking-for-dm to advertise yourself as a new player in search of a group. Be sure to include your regular availability!
There are other Discord servers where people gather for games. You can find them in #looking-for-community .
Aside from here, you could also try LFG areas in sites like Reddit, Roll20 or the D&D Beyond forums to get started.
my paladin who's gonna play above lv2 for the first time in her life rolled a total of 86 in stats
crazy statline, 14/18/14/11/13/18
it let her fulfill her rp of an unarmored paladin too, that's 19 ac while naked
Form of Dread blogs
Oath of Noble Genies is such a nice subclass
nope it's watchers
13 base with mage armor +4 dex +2 shield
who needs a genie when you can just be a very nimble lion man with shadow sorcery powers
Thats as much ac i have with plate my gooood
very, very nimble leonin paladin
he can't even wear heavy armor, the first level is in sorcerer (split is 3 shadow sorc/5 watchers pld/1 hexblade warlock)
genie would only bring it to 20 ac i think
Guy is multiclassing?
yeah
would max out at at level 8 w/ 22 though; +5 Dex +5 Wis and Shield, assuming no feats/magic items
she wanted something to reflect the shadowy powers of his god, so i helped her
sorcadin's cool, and using charisma for melee is also cool, and rpwise our fiendlock has a totally normal talking sword to gift him :3
How many Divine Smites can she do
10 before any short rests
can she stack any of them
Is it a known issue for the cult of the dragon initiate feat on dnd beyond not giving you the draconic language when it specifically says it does?
Yeah, you'll just have to add it manually
God this website is weird sometimes
according to 2014 wording i don't see why she couldn't use booming blade and a divine smite in the same hit
Can she beat Tarkus
"can a nuclear bomb beat a coughing baby"
Evren, there's a very real chance one person in the party dies if we fight guy
Hopefully one of my thousands of utility spells can solve this
Baphomet is gonna die
Have you considered that talking some sense into a paladin who thinks you're a devil's thrall might make him stand down?
Diplomacy? whaaattt
This is my ultimatum. Either rp your way out of the situation, or face the wrath of a moderately-optimized sorcadin.
how about I polymorph a horse and forcefeed it to the paladin
"I'm so hungry..."
...It wouldn't even be the first time you polymorphed a party member and fed it to something.
I hate how funny you are
HEY, It worked
lmaooo
also it's been 3 weeks can my character have the long rest now
they've been at 39 hp for a long time in game
I love you dnd
3 weeks per long rest is good, these dungeons take time to crawl
I meant it's been 3 weeks since our last session, when it ended initially I asked if we should long rest, but he said we weren't out of the cellar yet, so not yet
AH, I assumed 3 weeks worth of sessions
no worries! but I am excited for next session, we're about to meet our party member, and we're gonna initially start by fighting them (since they think we're associated with fiends)
please just talk your way out of that, he could kill you all effortlessly alone
OR... I could... uh...
Cast Darkness on him and jump him
I could cast blindness
... On a Paladin?
... Leonin Paladin
this shadow sorcerer can see through that
what a colorful group, Dragonborn Barbarian, Human Fighter, Changeling Bard, Dragonborn Cleric, and Leonin Paladin
he got 3 levels of shadow sorc and starts combat with darkness
oh my god...
Sounds painfully boring /half-joking
I like diversity with party species
Literally only one of the parties I'm in has characters of the same species lol
the dragonborns are flirting with each other
My own current characters are
Tabaxi
Bugbear
Harengon
Tortle
Dragonborn
Drow
Warforged
let me see...
Changeling
Changeling
Drow
Human
Human
"Human"
I find humans delightful
I find them...
Bland
I play D&D to NOT be a human lol
I would definitely play an old demented human wizard who i set up to die
That I have stat sheets for?
'kobold' Plasmoid Druid/Lock
Wood Elf Bard/Lock
Tiefling Paladin
Tabaxi Rogue (a classic)
Kenku (Alchemist Artificer)
Dragonborn (Transmutation Wizard)
That I play?
Mostly just the Plasmoid XD
His stats would get worse as he levels up, and not long after he remembers all his high-level spells he just dies of exertion
I'm probably gonna play another Sahuagin soon because I enjoyed playing one in a level 17 oneshot I was in last night
oh that I've got sheets for?
Tiefling
Wood Elf
Dragonborn
Eladrin
I've had to bury a lot of my characters due to bad campaigns
Rest in piece Silas, Azaez, and the characters i forgot the names of
never buried a character
i just rehoused both
Only three of my characters have died
Two to Liches.
One.. Died but was revived
Revived how? are they an undead now?
No..?
With a revival spell... like Revivify.
or raise dead, reincarnate, true reincarnation, etc.
No, he was revived with Revivify is what I mean lmao
oh yeah, echo, i'm giving you a reincarnate scroll.
good ol revivify
My character has 12 intelligence
Let us suffer the consequences of our actions
It's incredibly funny because my plasmoid can eventually cast reincarnate but is not a valid target for it herself XD
she's not a humanoid
The two characters that died to liches were
An Earth Genasi Noble Genies Paladin (Died defending the party)
and
An Aaracokra Warlock (Used his ring of Three wishes to create a black hole that killed him, the lich and destoyed the Liches research and Phylactry.. and castle lol)
Hah! my changeling as well
are spells with material components affected by inflation?
Depends on DM, but generally, no?
the GP cost is more to ensure a specific quality and or quantity of matierial IIRC
like if you could print literally perfect diamonds like we can here in the modern world, they'd likely pass for most spells easily enough
only for withers, apparently. he still charges 200g for true resurrection which is 25k today.
Why am I even asking, my party is dirt broke
most likely we'll just beg or steal from the innkeeper
i hid, so many, diamonds in that cellar
Helloooo
We thought they were mushrooms
is this the avernus campaign where you're literally one session in? or was that someone else
the mushrooms aren't the same thing... you literally never found one.
Yes
would you rather have duergar or drow as your villains in a dnd campaign?
also one of them was right next to a shadowy figure
you're not broke if it's only been one session XD
you just literally have not had a chance to earn money yet
He's a friend.
Duergar, they're underutilized.
I beg to differ, our berserker had to get a job as a toilet scrubber
Also, Duergar are a bit more compelling as to why they are the way they are
I like the Drow, but they're overused
well you already told us now so we can't metagame 😔
Kender /j
Depends! Which duergar and which drow?
I wonder how Incubus replies to the "Glass is half full half empty" thing
Also, from my understanding
Duergar aren't incredibly Xenophobic so they COULD possibly form alliances with other creatures a bit more easily? Lol
I'm sure it'll surprise us
just wrote a wall of text to justify my sorcerer going divine soul overnight bc our cleric's MIA
I'd honestly just be like
"Hey, our Clerics a bum.. can I take over their duties?"
He's not very religious. Just respects Mystra and Kereska the most among the gods the same way a bread enthusiast respects a skilled baker.
A believer, just not to a cleric extent
A Cleric that respects Mystra deserves to be executed
Or, if it's your character
....
Ew. /half-joking
Execution by fireball
Of course not. I would never be caught playing a cleric.
I can't wait for someone to kill Mystra... again.
Unless it's 5 gloomstalker 4 fighter 1 war cleric
Druid > Cleric c:
For me
Druid = Cleric
In terms of how much I like them
My goat ilmater would never die like her
I disagree, but honestly neither wisdom caster's my thing
Exactly, Ilmater is love, Ilmater is life
my now-divine-soul's just getting a dream visit from bahamut's court of gold dragons
Mystra died to CYRIC once for crying out loud
CYRIC
cleris is genrally the better pick numbers wise but druid has more range in utility and the exploration pillar
Only time he would die is to sacrifice himself
I'm not a fan of Charisma classes tbh
I prefer my Wisdom or Intelligence individuals
I like charisma because talk good
The one time I played a non-charisma character I still ended up putting 14 to charisma because I like rping my way through situations and it helps
I like bard but I loathe the social pillar >.>
yeah I rarely dump charisma
My Warlock is my only Charisma character atm
He's a Celestial Warlock though, so he has pseudo-cleric feels
so I'll just stick with my silly Druid/Lock who's sole CHA skill prof is Performance
I don't want to feel like I can't contribute to coversations because I have no charisma
I don't enjoy DnD if all we do is explore and kill things. Talking is half the fun for me, so imagine my level of anger when my rp is interrupted by a party member's thrown axe flying overhead
I love to be charisma class but that was obvious
I've played every class at LEAST once
And I like
Sorcerers, Warlocks and Paladins
But I'd rather not play any of them unless the party is lacking a Charisma character..
Which isn't often
Bards bore me to the umpth extent, but I'd play a Valor Bard for sure
see, I sit back and let the social pillar enjoyers mainly handle the social pillar unless there's open calls for insight or which ever checks or i have another angle to try or something
more at home in the Exploration Pillar, hence my preference for wisdom classes
I would like to play a swords bard archer
My partys poor bard keeps almost dyin
Good.
I like how swords bard RAW doesn't specify a weapon type so I can be a fulltime archer as a swords bard
He literally walked up to a buffed basilisk, only wielding a rapier and got absoloutley wrecked. His ac is barely 11
Valor bard with 2 levels of warlock for Eldritch Blast / Agonizing Blast and maybe Pact of the Blade + Improved Pact is fun c:
The fighter can't offer tactical observations? The wizard can't present their deductions? Pssh.
Folk who say "I've got Charisma 8 so I shouldn't talk" are making excuses for not taking part.
Hmmm..
Funnily enough, back to my characters that have died
All three were Charisma classes
Paladin, Warlock (though he became a Sorcerer after defeating his Patron)
And a Bard (the fellow who was revived)
Of couse I can do those things, but a DM might call for a charisma check regardless of my class :(
To what? Persuade someone who might have reasonable objections to what you want? Sure!
But that never means you can't talk.
Im thinkin of multiclassing my paladin into warlock. Considering the man got a cursed greatsword with some powerful soul trapped inside he might as well have it as his patron (i also need more ranged spells)
would that be better than being a Ranger...?
actually, what am I talking about, Bards get magical secrets
Honestly, I like using different ability scores for things
Make a Logical Argument?
Intelligence Persuasion
Other things too, but ...
Ability checks shouldn't be locked to certain Ability scores if you're able to present a case as to why you use a different score... for the situation.
so long as it's logistical !
maybe
Can't take ranger, paladin, or warlock spells though
This is probably a dumb question but I am going to be playing a ranger in my upcoming campaign. I have a long bow a scimitar and a short sword. So in combat should I make my priority to target combatants at range with the longbow and only use the scimitar (I have mastery with it so have nic to use the short sword as well.) when I get combatants rush me in close quarters
you're a full caster with a good spell list who can shoot two arrows in one attack
Rangers aren't full-casters
BARD.
Like I guess I am asking how should i approach combats as a ranger cause I have no experience playing a ranger
Bards
My mistake original gangster 🧐
If far, shoot with the bow
otherwise keep weapon master on the shortsword and scimmy for vex+nick shenanigans
I really should try getting into other classes, the first time I played Warlock I realized why they kept spamming eldritch blasts, they have quite literally nonexistent spell slots
not many ranger spells 2024 bard can't get through MS druid anyway
most importantly you get chad spike growth my beloved
Yes!!!!!!!!!!
I think 2024 makes a slightly better point about this but I would still like it mentioned more in the rules
spike growth's so cool it makes the loss of hadar slightly less upsetting
So don’t have mastery on the longbow?
ah, just finished up hellfire club all in one sitting.... phew i'm tired out now x'D
slow is kind of meh for a mastery, would recomend keeping it on the melee weapons so you have more stopping power close up, but can still dish out damage from range
Shortsword's vex gives you advantage on your next attack until the end of your next turn against that enemy if you hit
and the Scimitar's Nick property lets you do the bonus attack from the light propery as part of the attack action instead of it eating a bonus action
that way, from level 5 you can:
Attack 1:
- Uses Short Sword
- Gain vex advantage on hit
Attack 2:
- Uses Short Sword
- Has Advantage if Attack 1 hit
- Gain Vex Advantage on Hit
Attack 3:
- Uses Scimitar
- Uses Nick mastery to make the light weapon attack as part of the attack action
- Has advantage if Attack 2 hit
- If you have two-weapon fighting this adds your dex mod to the damage
you can also make a 4th attack with the scimitar as a bonus action if you take dual wielder at level 4
This combo also works pretty well with rogue, especially the advantage part
also solid on ranger with Hunter's Mark
each hit does an extra 1d6 force for a potential 3~4d6 extra force damage per turn
So can you only make an off hand attack as a bonus action if you have the dual welder feat
without the nick property, you have to make the light weapon attack as a bonus action
nick lets you make it as part of taking the attack action instead
completely seperate from that, dual wielder lets you make an entirely seperate bonus action attack for having attacked with a weapon with the light property, but this is not sped up by nick
taken together, this gets you 4 attacks per turn
Attack Action:
Attack 1:
- Use Short Sword
- Gain vex advantage on hit
Attack 2:
- Uses Short Sword
- Has Advantage if Attack 1 hit
- Gain Vex Advantage on Hit
Attack 3:
- Uses Scimitar
- Uses Nick mastery to make the light weapon attack as part of the attack action
- Has advantage if Attack 2 hit
- If you have two-weapon fighting this adds your dex mod to the damage
*** Bonus Action***:
Attack 4:
- Uses Scimitar
- Made due to Dual Wielder feat; does not add dex modifier to damage even with two-weapon fighting

Dual Wielder Feat: PHB 2024, page 203
That’s only if you have extra attack though
We are starting at level 1 cause we are doing the Wild beyond the Witchlight
so 2 attacks per turn to start with
going to 3 at level 4, then 4 at level 5
The ability to have a bonus action attack is baked into light weapons, but the dual wielder feat lets you specifically stack it with nick and use non-light weapons (someone double check me on this please)
nick makes the light weapon attack not use the bonus action, so you then have it to use for dual wielder instead
I hear people talking about dual wielding in 2024 being nerfed but it seems like it's been buffed to me, with nick weapon mastery and all.
The dual wielder feat might be a little worse I guess but it really depends on your build
So if you make a bonus action attack with a scimitar does that mean that you cannot also make a second attack with that bonus action with nick?
the first bonus action attack gets rolled into the main attack, then if you have the dual wielder feat you can make an actual bonus action attack
it's a half ASI that basically gets you an extra attack if your're built for it; they just moved some of the benefit off the feat itself onto the weapons
nick does not use the bonus action
When you make the extra attack of the Light property, you can make it as part of the Attack action instead of as a Bonus Action. You can make this extra attack only once per turn.
the feat isn't AS strong since you don't necessarily need it, but a 4th attack is pretty nice for builds that want to take advantage of as many attacks as possible from drs effects
I'm playing a genie paladin and did in fact take it, but it both fits his style and works super nice with things like divine favor (and conjure minor elementals if we ever get there)
But like at level 1 when I only have main hand attack and off hand attack.
If I use short sword for main hand attack to get advantage on my next attack
Use my off hand (bonus action) attack with scimitar can I then make another attack with nick using the short sword or is that not how it works
so you can only make two attacks at that point, and both of them are part of one action
nick rolls the bonus action into the action, but specifies that you can't make another attack with the now freed up bonus action
So I should use my bonus action attack with the short sword first and then use my main action for Nick???
dual wielder functionally states that you can now use that freed up bonus action to make a bonus action attack even if you use the nick property
