where they are usually obtainable?
(to plug a little third party here, if you're into more complex crafting and upgrading, have a look at Kibbles Crafting) I didn't make it but I loved it.
Mundane weapons? Any well stocked shop or smithy I imagine.
magic items, I meant
Oh, there I've seen many different approaches. Some DMs might have a very obvious magic item shop where many can be purchased. Others might place them as loot to be found. Others might be okay with crafting them. None of these three need necessarily be true at the same time, but can be.
Prewritten adventures often have magic items as loot, or wielded by the bad guys.
where do I obtain rulebook, though? Maybe that'll help me
A rulebook for what? Are you looking for a list of magic items and what they do?
rulebook for basic stuff
A player bought us pizza and bribed the dm to give us all inspiration 😆
For the basic rules, they are here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024
Free basic D&D rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules
damn bet me to it
Ok what are your all's thoughts on a one handed warhammer with a long chain on it
Cool flavour
Warhammer is already one handed.
Definitely cool flavour.
There’s a Chinese martial arts weapon called a chain whip which can have a metal weight at the end or even dart.
Then of course there’s the chain sickle.
last one for today question: what is attunement?
Handy glossary of rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/rules-glossary#Attunement
my dm lets all characters have an uncommon and rare magic item and honestly this makes character building so much fun, like I'm not gonna run the 22 AC flying turtle monk but holy hells is that cool
flying turtle monk?
yes, you get +1, later +2 weapons. you get returning weapons, repeating weapons, weapons of warning and dazzling weapons.
also later on, dagger of venom and flame tongue
I'm playing a lore of swords kobold bard
And his lore is that he murdered his brother then his mental health so when he killed others he thought it was gnomes so he has a hatred for gnomes for him killing his parents
And he is angy boi
Like if you talk to him wrong he's probably gonna use banishment
level 9 tortle monk, uncommon item is boots of speed, rare item is cloak of displacement, thats 17 base AC +5, with a flying speed of 45 feet every combat and all attacks made against me at disadvantage, the flying turtle monk wins always
it'd be a stalemate, they cant hit me and I have no ranged options
They have +19 to hit
So they need a 3 to hit
Wait you can fly
But they could use rocks as improvised weapon
50 liches?
how do i play as a vampire in 5e?
The closest official race to a vampire in 5th edition is the Dhampir
alright thanks!
if dhampir isn't good enough custom lineage exists
question, which of these would you say is better to have?
Resistance to one damage type
or
+1 AC and the ability to knock people away as a reaction
whats the resistance
melee monk gets mogged
resistant armor so it can be basically any elemental or energy resistance
armour
is that a race or what
Armour
so its better to have higher AC?
no
this one i meant
custom lineage is a racial option you get in I think tasha's couldron, basically it's a race where you make the features yourself, you get a free feat and can choose between a proficiency or darkvision, I think there's other stuff but it's goated for making custom races, I personally used it for a character that literally is a shadow
Dhampir
but yeah dhampir is the best
the character in question already has quite a few resistances.
what was their resistances?
radiant, fire, lightning, thunder and poison
it seems like you've already decided which item you want and just want us to corroborate that but no resistance is way better overall especially if you can decide
fair
whats the most frequently used damage type in your campaign?
Probably bludgeoning and slashing
its basically always BPS
bludgeoning then
weirdly for me it's force rn but thats because the enemies use eldritch blast a lot
that is exceptionally rare im pretty sure
Quite a lot of enemies also deal two damage types, which can be fun to deal with.
how good of an AC would you say 19 is?
at what tier
uh, around level 10
pretty good but not crazy
like someone going specifically for AC at that level could probably get theirs around that 22-25 range
like with an uncommon and a common magic item (using that because that seems around normal for that level) a fighter or paladin could have an AC of 25 by having +2 plate, a +1 shield, and defensive fighting style
like your ac will probably be a little better than the rogue's
at level 10, it'll block a few hits but certainly not insane
+2 plate would be a very rare magic item
At level 10, AC19 varies depending on your class really how good it is
Like AC19 for a wizard is really good
More average for a paladin
ac19 should be the baseline for full casters
AC 19 for a wizard is really good
there's a few magic items going into that most likely
Yeah, especially since wizards cannot wear armor
Yeah, but we're talking pure wizard
multiclassing is also not to everyone's tastes
your spell progression is delayed by one level, that alone can be a daunting prospect
It often also isn't about bumping the number at all costs. I often don't take the """optimal""" path because that's just not what that character would be like.
yeah also fully true
aight fair
Yeah, a lot of players will select options based around what makes sense for their character or what they find funny
Like I took inspiring leader as a feat for my wizard because I knew it would annoy someone else (in character) who finds them annoying
the trade-off will be worth it tbh since starting it as ur core class already gives u con prof which u really want for conc saves (i wouldnt do it for tier 1 though)
From my experience, those players are the most fun to be around, I'm not biased at all.
okay what about dhamphir is that a race or
Yeah, Dhampir is a race in
Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft
it's really up to the players what is or isnt worth it
Mhm, I don't subscribe to that version of "worth"
Different players have different expectations and wants from the game.
Some players will want to make a more optimized and tough character, while others just want to cast fireball
D&D works at large because people can make their characters however they want to
And even characters that shouldn't work on paper can somehow make it work.
It's all trade-offs, there's no such thing as getting something for nothing. So just play with honesty to the characters, cheating the system doesnt really work as well as players hope it will
I wouldn't count on DM intervention though
in this case its a spellcasting focused artificer
It isn't about DM intervention, since this goes both ways.
19 is pretty good in that case. You could get it higher but 19 isn't too bad.
A good DM collaborates with their players to help them run the character they want though
hol up what armour do u have atm
wait wrong eperson
Me? I'm wearing a hoodie, so like 10.
What subclass?
homebrew one
what armour do u have atm
Resistance to cold damage though
I wouldn't count on that
chain shirt, shield, enhanced defense
yeah 100% I shape large parts of my magic items as well as just general story beats & rewards around helping players do what they want to do
How is it cheating the system?
You should start getting Half-Plate or scale mail if money is a problem
Poorly worded metaaphor. You're not cheating by any regard, but that level in artificer means it's not a level in wizard. This doesn't apply for every group of course, but I've played with a lot of players who multiclassed early on and it locked them out of key class features later that they wanted to get.
You get a little boost now but sometimes that locks you out of the good stuff later, where you could just be a normal AC 15 wizard with shield and sometimes get hit a bit more.
problem is then i would have disadvantage on stealth
I think people also tend to underestimate how long leveling takes.
If your "build" only truly comes online at level 7, you may have been playing 30 sessions with something that doesn't yet work. An then the campaign might be over.
I've had this conversation with one of my players who wanted to multiclass into sorcerer this week. Power to her, it's fully her choice, but it also means that that multiclass would lock her out of 9th level bard spells, because my campaign will probably end at level 17.
do u have a PWT user in the party? it should mitigate the downsides tremendously
Having that conversation in the first place is a win in my book.
I remember trying really hard not to order my warlock player to not put his charisma at 9.
What
Is anything unclear?
Ooooof, 9 charisma warlock would be rough
That would be like letting them underperform a class just cuz they thought it would be funny, it WILL get old quick
For my own curiosity, I remember someone who was complaining about their players who would make intentionally bad / disfunctional PCs - are these your players?
Yep, but it could still work! Not all stuff relies on scaling.
Nah, I'd never complain about that.
Just…a lot do
Someone else then, I heard someone a while back had a rough problem with it.
I wonder how you could build something like this....
Pact of the Blade could be viable there
Or support. Protection from evil and good, speak with animals, expeditious retreat
Once you look, there are quite a few spells that don't need a good spellcasting ability at all.
oh there's tons of features you can use with a terrible ability
really all you want is to avoid spell attacks and spell saves
I mentioned pact of the blade because it's a good way to bypass your need for charisma while still giving a path forward for some more offence
You could cast spells like bane, bless, etc.
Ahh, assuming they are better in dexterity/strength, I assume?
bane would be tough because your save dc would be bad
I assumed as such, yeah, can't be as bad as a 9
fair
-1 to attack rolls so not really as well
Pact of the blade can, but crucially does not need to use your charisma modifier
They could just be a Bless bot yes
you can have the blade use its normal ability score instead
aight fair
damn I thought armour rarity scaled the same as weapon rarity
thats for shields/spellcasting focuses/plus weapons i think
Nah, armour rarity is one extra tier higher than the others
Yeah it's a fun little detail.
shields do follow weapon scaling
😔 still that'd only be a -1 so 24 ac when speccing into it is pretty good
arcane focuses definitely do I've got a +2 griomoire and it's just rare, which is arguably more disgusting than if +2 plate was just rare
The fact that it also raises your DC is quite significant. If it was just +2 to spell attacks, that would be more appropriate and in line with other items.
I do think ultimately enchanted armours are much less important than just a shield or a weapon anyhow
stack it with an amulet of devout, it'd be really funny
Also they could use the shield spell, armor of agathys, etc.
I agree, i barely see any in AL
They have no effect because one affects your wizard dc and one affects your cleric/paladin dc
yeah the only way to get that to work would be using the late level artificer feature that lets you just ignore all of that stuff
Oh right they patched it lmao nvm
that actually isn't true! "while you wear the holy symbol you gain a bonus to spell attack rolls and the saving throw dcs of your spells"
I'd just have to multiclass which I'm not doing
Amulet of the devout was never reprinted
that is correct actually, I just checked and yeah that's a weird bug to leave in
it was probably patched in bg3 is what they mean
The bg3 one is universal +2 dc, idk the tabletop one
I hope that sort of assumption wasn't in any other statement because that would mean a lot of the discussion was sideways
it's like that for all of them, so like a level 20 artificer could have an unthinkable AC
I have made the mistake of allowing magic item crafting in a campaign once. That's how I ended up with an artificer that was pushing past 30 AC
I think your artificer fudged some numbers that shouldn't be possible without multiclassing
Nah, we had a full breakdown (of the bonuses, not emotionally)
personally I'm allowing magic item crafting but I'm gonna make it super expensive and difficult
like I'm talking you need potent rare materials that can only be found by doing quests, to make it feel like in skyrim when you do a dungeon for armour upgrades and stuff like that
Oh yeah, I think that approach was even described in Xanathars.
what happened after
I'd probably end up making a list of available crafting options. Otherwise you have weird edge cases.
I also require that only casters can create magical items, at best non casters can do light modifications and some steps that dont require magic in the creation
How should I fit a game in when I have a game going from 7-10pm est Friday when I wanna run another 1
Well the artificer basically never got hit, but that's fine, they can still fail saves
We ended that campaign successfully.
I'm making a system and I'm gonna make it so that only a specific class can, and it'll be a crafting based class
So not artificer?
-# Sounds like Kibbles Crafting
Are there any vtts that work on mobile?
Owlbear Rodeo and DDBeyond Maps work fine on phones
nah they're gonna be a non-caster who makes up for that by having a massive table of gadgets that replace it
pretty much, I'm mostly basing them on alchemist from pf2e
DMs!
How do you price the different rarities of wondrous item?
Most of the time I go by this, because it's fast and and easy:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/magic-items#MagicItemRaritiesandValues
(so do ya all's characters cling to one another when they scared)
Would never be caught doing that
Sus
would rather die
Some of my characters might
my current character just met them the other day
More likely to get further away from the party
Built my first Artificer, I dont know if it's even viable or not
Human Artificer with 17 Dex 18 Con and 19 Int
its best to continue character advice in #character-discussion
race ya there
Hello
Technically thats exactly what artificer is
Just doesnt feel like that in gameplay
Flavoring is free so this Artificer of yours can indeed be a non caster
Guidance and Sanctuaries are all "casted" from tools
Which is why im saying artificer seem to not actually be casters
In lore they just have magic items that do the casting for them
So this homebrew class of theirs that makes magic items and replaces spells with gadgets is exactly what an artificer is
I like your profile picture
that's his changeling
I am very new to the gamr how do i level up with my character
you level up when your dm says u can
Or when you get enough xp depends on the dm
Looking at it more, is it understandable to think Barbarians really aren't as strong for a class
I mean, they definitely got some good options, but I feel like most of their kit is inherently worse. Unarmored Defense being Dex and Con vs Monk being Dex and Wis
Rage being pretty good for Defense early on and has sone great damage output, but feels like they lack good late game content
Here is the section of the free rule book about leveling up: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/creating-a-character#LevelAdvancement
For more beginner help, check out #dnd-newcomers
Don't get me wrong, they are total fun to play, but like... maaaybe it wouldn't have killed them to add a bit more for them, you know?
Petition to give barbs fighting styles
I feel like the main 2 bigger things are being tankier and actually doing great damage
morning everyone
Because the Barb can already tank a ton of weapon attacks, but they start to fall behind the more magic is present
Thanks! I got it commisioned
And for the damage... rage damage being a +2 to start and only a +4 max very late into a character is pretty criminal
how's it going blood
I don't know if you saw yesterday
But let's just say there's a reason I'm talking about Barb now
Hah! yeah I saw
Hi chat
Evening
How are yall
Yeah... I'm mostly over it, but a part of me is still really bummed out about that situation because it was stupid
think about how funny the story will be in the future
It wasn't even that funny, though
it was stupid, yeah
Not like "accidentally rode a shifted druid into their own moonbeam" stupid
I still think you'd be better off looking for a better group. You do not have to stay with this group just because you think you won't get another.
Party is pretty chill. For the most part
This frustration is just me losing a character i was attached to for the first time
First time for everything, I suppose
First PC death, tough\
i think my session im right now will be canceled, we are 2 of 4 players and its like 30 minutes one of the players that said will come
the next one's coming up for you
I think you are giving them too much credit and taking too much on yourself. The situation as you described doesn't sound fun. They may be intending to be chill but toxicity that's not on purpose is still toxic.
I know I said I'll be a sorcerer if I die... but come on
oh that, yeah, had it one time and the DM pulled out a "there is a magic token that each one of you all have only 1, a Cheat Death. You lost yours", he is nice but he did it too because it was some sort of betray from the team
there are diamonds around, surely one responsible person in the party has prepared revivify?
Bro im going to be emo if my sorcerer dies in my main campaign im in. Our DM is going a mechanic in his story where everyone is from these "pods" and are being transported into different places in time and different planes of existence. If they die, they respawn at the pod but have limited lives. Yet my character, who was sent not from the pods to assist the group, is stuck here and can't die.
Of course the situation isn't fun. But that's just DnD a lot of the time for me: stuck in a bad situation and needing time find a way to slip and slide my way through problems, and often still failing due to luck
i thought my Pc died and i felt bad, didnt had that feeling in a long time
...our Cleric is Karagon
Again, you do not need to stay in this group, you can find another.
I've developed him so well with the party and hes been very clutch in the encounters lately.
Oh no you guys are screwed. It's minecraft hardcore in this.
Also Gan hasn't been vaccinated
Bro 2 of my sessions this week had players arrive very late.
Also the whole point of D&D is to be fun. Playing in ways that's not fun for you is like .. the only wrong way to D&D.
...Do bards not get revivify?
I have, but their campaign hasn't started yet. Hopefully when this current one is done, Paladin and I can just go to the new one and keep playing
@worn lagoon I've answered you on dnd-newcomers, don't know if you've noticed it.
?
Also Sorcerer is a fun class but definitely isnt beginner friendly.
Just DM me the thing mate, no embed rights here
found another campaign, let's go, I'm a level 2 human artificer
Imo. Took me like 2 months to actually get good at using my sorcerer
might have to talk out about how late he is getting, welp, 30 minutes already and no signal.
Can scrolls of revivify be used by bards? I forgot scroll rules
Bro I had someone 2 hours late who missed the entire main encounter 😭
There's a difference between playing a character or role that i don't enjoy and just having dice be a pain while I just work it out
What magic item plans should I get as an artificer, I have never played this before
Do you not like role-playing as a barbarian or combat as a barbarian?
Or am I misunderstanding something
Rip
yeah, will be other day
Scrolls: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/equipment#SpellScrollCantrip30GPLevel150GP
So, look and see if Revivify is in the Bard spell list. If not, they can take it after level 10 as a Magical Secret.
Alright so this campaigjn I'm in is Dragons of Stormwreck Isle, (no spoilers pls)
Bag of holding is good
Any upgrade in the armor//weapon to your allies too
Repeat shoot in a crossbow is giga good
Is it smart that your players have to fight the tarasque and an army of zombies at the same time?
You're misunderstanding it. Someone is suggesting i search for a new campaign because the experiences were often unpleasant. And while it is true, they were often unrelated reasons for it: dice never giving me a break and out of campaign problems being the 2 main ones
Alchemy jugs are good items, good to have at least one for either safe food (mayo, honey, wine, beer) or utility (acid, poison, oil)
IRL issues with the players IS a campaign issue.
erm fighting the tarasque at all seems a bit radical
...
@severe rampart , I'm borrowing bg3 rules. Any of you can read any scroll.
How are the dice never giving you a break? Just unlucky rolls?
Nigh impossible, purely ironic unlucky rolls
In this new campaign im the only person in our party who didnt use rolls for our ability scores when creating the characters
The DM never told us the "how" we get our ability scores
I was more referring to my irl life than the other players. Much larger, problematic, and significantly harder to deal with than players
I guarantee our barbarian player rolled multiple times just for damn near perfect stats
At lvl 4
No. But making the tarraske get a second undead phase with more HP but less AC is something i would enjoy to see
how do you get Repeat Shoot?
Infusions
Okay
and less resistances too, so the idea of a rotting body its there and isnt too harsh with your players.
Peak Idea ty
whenever you need, i have like other 2 tarrasque ideas in the bag
One wild magic and a mahoraga one
Wild Magic sounds crazy
wild magic funny as hell in theory
I want a full party of wild magic sorcerers
So for me, imagine that for your stats, 4d6k3, but using a bot to do the following:
Roll 3 different distributions
Make 75 the bare minimum and unlikely
One stat is a 16+
All that just so I my previous character would have to roll up 18 distributions just to get one above an 80
And my Barb had a 75, 79, and 81
one of my players will almost definitely end up with a sickness that'll give him surges for 1d4 days soon
Oh, yeah. And did I mention that, when you level up your character on DnD Beyond, it instantly rolls the hit die for you?
You don't have to take that roll and you probably don't
But my 16 Con level 5 Barb would have had a max HP of 27
echo, you are not warning him about that
Meaning that all 4 level ups would have been a 1 on a d12 for HP
Guys anyone can help me remember this game I didn't play for a year I remember the basics but not everything
I only use dndbeyond. I like how easy it is.
You can set your hp to fixed or manual. Fixed takes the average and If it's manual you have to do it your self and add the rolls to your rolled total
I can't stand roll20 or abovevtt
I did use it but am a f2p
I know you can fix it yourself. Just saying this because Beyond gave me a 1 in 20k+ odds of being the worst possible rolls
Does anyone here play solo campaign
Heiiiiiiiii
There is no automatic hit die roll, if it's set to manual and you aren't adding to the total you are only getting your con bonus at level ups
Oh it is, the idea is a tarrasque that got access to magic in some way, call it experiments or eating a bunch of sorc//wizards and finally mutating into that.
Would absorb elements and do a explosion around him after absorbing X number of times and forcing a wild magic surge that would have his own table.
After the explosion and wild magic he would be giga vulnerable
Hi
Is promotion allowed here : )?
How are you doing
@fossil plover I think so
just in a different channel
I swe
Hello
Where?
Heiiiiiiiii
@fossil plover do u play solo campaigns
It it took the average rounded up, my HP would have been 55
And if it was only the Con Bonus and nothing else, max HP would have been-
Ohhhh... I see. Gotcha
In my defense, I am far from a stranger for Murphy's Law. So this could have been legitimate
Who have a campaign link guys I didn't play any real campaign in my life just solo one
solo ones... that's still an impressive feat
@wanton sorrel do u know how to play one
only played in groups not solo yet.... but that was like 2015 so about ten years ago... trying to return to table top rpg
@wanton sorrel I wished I can play one I abandoned this game for a year but I liked to return bc I was obsessed with it for 3 years
i played dugneons and dragons online the video game... and it wanted me to come back to D&D
@wanton sorrel do you mean bg3
no

dungeons and dragosn online is a free to play MMO
Hey I first played D&D in 1981 I was wondering have any rules at all changed I joined this server to try figure out if there is still a community for D&D what’s changed and if there is much new
A lot as changed in the rules but the game is still amazing
The community is larger than ever
guys this new campaign i'm in, Dragons of Stormwreck Isle, has (at least) 3/6 of us as humans 😭
Lore accurate
So? Folks are aloud to choose what species they play
I'm not bashing them or anything, I'm also one of the humans
I'm just not used to so many humans in one campaign
I think humans are now easily the most versatile race to play as both story and mechanic wise
Also lore accurate
he's used to everyone except him being draconic
FOR THE CLAN
Just started a CoS variant campaign, and unbeknownst to any of us before session 1, three of us are humans and the other used to be one
also wait what the hell, you play races besides changeling?
I want to eventually play a variety of species as I get more experience. Right now im:
- a small lizard boi (kobold)
- a robot who likes to play dragon chess (Warforged)
- a PTSD-ridden entity of nightmares from the Underdark (Drow/Dark Elf)
Did the other person abandon their humanity to become a vampire
ECHO GOT REPLACED! who are you, impostor?!
Yeah
Nah, we just started last week, no one's vampiric (yet)
Astarion from BG3 be like:
Book of Hungers and its vampire feats would be so fun to play as a dhampir with in CoS
Its a new year which means a new annual Frauhd thrashing
maybe I'll secretly DM the DM and tell him I'm secretly a changeling, you dont know
i was just thinking about this
I feel like playing a vampiric-adjacent character undercuts some of the dread in CoS, unless it's something like a Strahd-hunting expedition
peakkkk
Dragons of Stormwreck Isle, any good?
I want to play a Warforged that is just a living armor and other thing i want to play is a Warlock that use pact of blade but with a gun that cast eldritch blasts like bullets
I always wondered what it would be like to play as Strahds runaway spawn/thrall or something. But then again why the hell would you ever come back to barovia
Funny
If you aren’t shooting your eldritch blasts out of your eyes what are you doing

Always, i might not be the most original but i want to have lots of fun
I have thought about playing as bugbear warlock
go for it!
I think that'll be funny
Archfey bugbear would go so hard
A warforged Druid
Epitome of the bigfoot
Thats basically transformers xD
one of my favorite characters is a minotaur fiendlock
made a Beast Wars warforged druid once
They even wildshape into cars
race i dont give me too much head to it, i enjoy how humans have that extra feat and make me feel comfortable.
If not i will see other options, like Elf or smt like that
a triceratops is a car if you try hard enough
comes with built in anti traffic gear
In my main campaign me, a draconic sorcerer kobold, is having a relationship battle with our Oath of Glory Paladin Minotaur about who's deity is better
Their friendship is falling apart
Theres so many celebrities with so much plastic in them that I’d argue it makes them a motor vehicle so its not too far fetched
Warlock, Two Barbarians, an Artificer, and a Wizard, I think that's a pretty decent team composition
pffft
My party:
Sorcerer, artificer, bloodhunter, paladin, wizard, and monk
I'm the healer (Artificer)
Oh yea they get healing spells i always forget that
I have a current group I'm playing with of 4.
Party is: Wizard, Monk, Paladin, Druid
what you need is:
dps (support)
dps (utility)
dps (dps)
dps (utility)
4 sorcerers. Easy.
Ahh double game day today.
One shot at the shop this afternoon and tyrrany of Dragons online tonight
My party is 2 fighters, one champion and one psi, a paladin, an artificer and a bard
The ideal party is Abjurer Wizard, Diviner Wizard, Illusionist Wizard, and Evoker Wizard /j
not enough in the utility departme- wait Clockwork, Abberant and Lunar exist
Hows psion? I’ve been wanting to have a player play it
ur so rite
Exactly
im the champion and for now, the psi fighter didnt did any damage like i did so i cant tell, it look more defensive but im being the literal DPS of the team for now
Hold Person spam with Constant spells to CC or give disadvantage 🙂
The ideal party is just 4 Wayfarer halfling divination wizards
i mean, they got better options too
Is it a Psion or a Psi Fighter
oh hell yeah
my minotaur fiendlock had fun moments with the pc kobold-lock
They argue all the time. Its funny. Im the kobold sorcerer.
psi fighter
God damn it now theres a new character ive gotta make
Actually recently my kobold was crashing out on the Paladin and almost burned him alive by baiting him into a trap, because he was so upset at him.
Psion is the new(ish) playtest class
Luckily the paladin spoke reason into my kobold and he ended up crying out of guilt 😭
I don’t think its possible for me to not make a multiclass character. Theres just so much identity and flavor you can add by doing so
for us it was like
"hey mr. minotaur, did i ever get your name?"
"i don't know what your patron is, and i'm not giving a potential fey-servant my name. everyone else can call me Sakis though."
...
The barbarian holds the kobold down while we modify memory him (flavored to be like grabbing his face and flashbanging him)
flavor has always been free for me
I don't like MCing personally
True but the flavor you buy can be just as flavorful :P
stupid colonizers trying to tax my spices
I add a flavor tax in my game
Flavor thief
if i have to ask what you're doing, thats 5 gold /j
Mercantile Bard Thief Rogue
Frankly I enjoy the recent RP moment they had because it shows that my kobold genuinely cares for the group and he doesn't know how to handle rejection.
Mercantile Bard agenda pushed for the day i live another day
oooo, tell us!
-# #tales-from-the-table is a thing
^^
Basically my kobold follows a deity that the rest of the group, especially the Paladin, views as evil.
I can explain more in that channel :3
I wanna try out blood hunter but i have no idea what ability scores to use any recommendations?
looking for feedback: before posting anywhere, it's likely best to ask due to these parameters: Hosting in-person D&D games in Manhattan with several DMs included and looking for players of colour. Which channel is best to post this?
thank you
Bloodhunter is so very customizable i would more so ask yourself what type of character you’d want to play
I am thinking dex over str for more AC but idk if i should go for wis or int
Are you planning to multiclass or stay blood hunter
Stay blood hunter i am to unexperienced with multiclassing
Then I would take whatever makes more sense for your character
If you’re wanting to optimize (completely unneeded) you can take wisdom for higher saves against nasty status effects like fright/charm
Alright
I will say that in person games arent super common for this server, so you might have better luck with a Facebook group based around your area
hello guys can you help me and my friend get started on d&d? we are very lost and making a map right now, what should we draw on our map? it's a forest, thank you
Id recommend looking up forest battlemaps online for references
Entirely valid and expected. You have a point, but veered away from using social media. People will find me
Ominous…
can only two people play? or do we need more?
Yep
A lot of facebook groups allow you to post anonymously, not sure if that would help prevent people from finding you
Theres even solo dnd
Reading it back, your response makes sense. This meant to say, people who want to play in person will ultimately find me somehow
That was funny having to go "why is this ominous?"
should've phrased that differently on my end
how do you play with only two people? i mean one of them is storyteller, so how you play like that?
one dm one player?
Same way you play with 4-5 people. Dm describes the scene -> player chooses how to act
Duet DnD is a thing, but requires some work. You can search up some resources online, just look for "Duet DnD"
thank youuu!
Some of the Dragon Delves adventures also have tips on running them with one player
a duo story would be so peak
Duo story could be fun but challenging
Like, with your best friend, both being knights and fighting against anything that come in your path, get more people (players) trough the adventures and time
i’ve always thought about running a duet on some established mods but I almost exclusively play in groups and it would feel weird without everyone
Curse of strahd solo
can we start playing with only two people and in the middle of it someone joins?
thats a horror campaign in the making
Id encourage it even
yep, was thinking in something like this
I think one dm one player is really difficult to pull off. Admittedly it was my first time playing dnd ever and I didn’t fully know what I was doing
Solo sessions are fun however there is promise that you’ll have a group to bounce off of when you get back
If you’re nervous about dming its a good low pressure intro to it with someone you trust
I was near threatened to lose my character to 4 rats
Fair enough honestly.
Yeah, only after some time one understand when somethign is a threat and when isnt
I know that my fighter can handle lots of things without problem and with even some basic weapons
I feel like if I had a "solo" campaign, I'd give the player a companion much like the Palico from MH that just kind of does miniscule damage, support, and healing.
rats of unusual size? I didnt know they existed
Its an Arrogance i won through effort
But that's just me. I've never done it before.
Palico mentioned, must mention Palamutes
Well it was like the opening fight like character introduction time like. “Oh the streets are in peril with shuffles papers 4 rats”
New york
Sidekicks can be a thing. Thats what i would do for a palico. Use the scout statblock, make it Small, give it some Tabaxi features, then use the Expert sidekick class
Have you ever been jumped by 4 giant rats? You'd probably struggle too.
yeap.
And then I found a talking rat and he threatened to kill me outright through connections and I was like dawg I’m on 2 health
damn Ratatouille spent too much time in the streets
2 HP and a dream
You could also give some of the adventure mod npcs some time to chip in
Yo I just remembered something I loved
In a dnd campaign I was in years ago I played a warlock and eventually unlocked the ability to turn corpses into ghouls
And my favorite way to use them was to strap them with tnt and have them chuck molotovs at the enemy
Then jump into the fire lighting their tnt vests
Kamikaze ghouls
Good times
I wanted his silly hat and my stuff back
That's amazing
Just found out me and my DM are from the same country, for once in my life I dont have to pull an all nighter for a session
I have so many warlock and cleric concepts and builds I want to do.
had been jumped by 2 royal ghosts, a giant, an owlbear with 800hp and even then, i stood.
Was jumped by like 5 cultist and more stuff.
I trust myself and in that trust i have strength, no money and no fear
And instead I was met with the sewer rats coming out and snapping their fingers like I owed the mob money
I'd just flee atp.
I was a level 1 Druid
That session was so funny looking back at it
oh that change it, at lvl 1 everybody is literally bread with mold.
Yeah, i could, my teammates could too. But we stood our ground.
Its a concept i have in fighters, You MUST stood your ground
Any tips and tricks for ur first game as a DM?
You Must Dominate.
oh my
Be open to creativity but not soo much
Make your players read their stuff, you dont have to remind them everything.
Prepare the things based in their failure
Yikes
🚩
No.
Do the story by yourself please, you will feel better and a reminder, the story dont need to be giga complex.
You can literally grab some old story and adapt it to DnD
What matter is doing the thing right and well, make it feel good
if you arent sure about making your own adventure, grab a prewritten one
dont use a Chatbot
Stories are the easiest part of DMing honestly.
Then would recommend doing oneshots at start so you start seeing how is the system, stories, etc.
It does not take much. Get a base, have the characters ready. Who wants what? What are they willing to do to get what they want?
That's it. That's all you need to get a story started
It’s generally not recommended as those models have a short attention span and often forget what was leading up to what it was talking about a few sentences ago.
In addition it doesn’t actually know the rules, just whatever is easily searched and scraped. You’ll likely have to put more work in converting whatever slop it spits out than just making it yourself.
Quite frankly you can fart on a piece of paper and still get a better written story than what Chatgpt can generate
There is nothing wrong in doing some "there was a big evil bad guy that is a wizard necromancer that turned a whole kingdom in undeads and want to conquest the rest of kingdoms and you all must protect the world"
Sometimes basic is better, less is more
oke maybe I will try a prewritten one
If it's your first time DMing and you absolutely want to go for a prewritten one, go for Lost Mine of Phandelver or an even shorter one, like Sunless Citadel.
How long do they take?
I think the new starter set would also be an excellent starting point. Heroes of the borderland
depends a bit on your group but these adventures only tend to go level 1-5 or even shorter, around 5 or so sessions
Depends. I've seen one group be stuck on Sunless Citadel for a dozen sessions, I've seen another clear it in three.
there is some variance, yeah
Is it possible to find online or do I have to get it in person or how does it work?
Depends if you're gonna play in person or online, but I think in person is better
all these adventures can be bought in online versions. good choice if you also play online. If you play in person, the box sets might be worth it since they come with a lot of extra material. that can help newcomers
if I'm not wrong there are also free adventures in DnD Beyond right?
yes, i think there is a command for it...
hmmmm
?tag ddb claim
The following items on D&D Beyond can be claimed at no cost.
there are also a couple of famous adventures out there for free from third parties
UUUUUU these looks good
like wolves of weton?
Thank you guys ima study them a little
delian tomb, wild sheep chase
A most potent brew is also a good free one shot for new dms/players
I ran it for some friends awhile back and even with them being brand new it was fun and concluded.
Craaaap i overslept and missed the dnd session
apologise to your group, why you posting here
I already did that
Hi does someone have a complete guide to combat and the dice? I'm new to DMing and trying to setup a game for me and my friends.
I have the essentials kit
it should also explain how it works
If you have questions, feel free to drop them! As you might imagine, there's a lot to potentially go over so going over everything with you would take a lot of time. It's probably better for you to ask questions as you think of them. :)
And of course, reading through the rules can help because that might answer your questions anyways without having to wait for someone to respond!
Don't worry, I also did that the first time I had a session
Im completely new to dnd besides BG3 thinking about making a homebrew one shot anything i should know?
Yeah but i had an alarm and i somehow slept through it
Anyway wazzup y'all hows the campaigns going 🔥 💯
Moving on... I'm in 4 campaigns now and I'm planning on leaving one of them (The one that skinned the goblins)
Slowmode is on, if the timer doesnt hit 0 between messages it automatically deletes the message
Skinning goblins is wild
I can't find a game that is at a decent time for me
gotta keep looking or make compromises
i feel that, thats why i became a DM so i could run games on my time
wowee
I had that same issue.
It's how I became a DM...
I'd played 0 sessions of 5th edition before I started running curse of strahd 5 years ago
i had a wizard character who collected limbs and other bits from prison guards he killed for animating later
lizardman bits, so they fit in his pack
Very dark
Gotta love necromancy
Imagine running a necromancer who collects severed limbs and reanimates them.
Just an army of hands
this is EXACTLY like that one fear and hunger spell, and I love it
they called him red green the handy man
Alright baby gonna play a warlock in another campaign
That's a show I've never heard anyone else mention before
What was it called, flesh puppetry? Regardless I'm homebrewing it for my table now.
Salutations, friends
address me
Nah
I ran a paid session last night
Rolled 5 natural 20s. (Pray for my players)
oh if i could use gifs. i would post Miguel O. Hara crashing out
I'll have Sovis push Mana into an abyss
i rolled 7 nat1's in a row in my first session dming
Could anyone with Warlock knowledge help me out in #character-discussion
he wont, hes too much of a good boy >:)]
You rang? 🧐
I think all of us rolled at least one nat 20
dm me whenever mate
Yes Tokii I need you, this is exactly up your alley
To any lore people in the chat: what are angels in D&D exactly? I've read the wiki but the lore section is from 4E and I don't know if it's still canon.
Sovis is kind hearted, he's not the greatest person alive smh
At most I've rolled 7 natural 20s in a single combat encounter as a DM
Servants of the gods
how is pushing me into the Abyss a kind act? Its not gonna even put Mana out of her misery
with her luck she'll land in Thanatos and be chased by more vampires and undead
I think Sovis would hesitate on putting her out of her misery tbh lol
Shes not against it
Typically speaking, do they appear on the material plane, do what their God told them to do, then go back to their God?
No one puts ti out of their misery but me
yes. Theyre extensions of their god's will. Sometimes they act out, but those are exceedingly rare
theyre also not afraid of dying, outside of their home plane they get reborn in Celestia
No what I'm asking is are angel's appearances rare?
Oh. Yeah
theyre angels. A god can always send a vision.
if an angel pops up, something wrong happened
Gods have visions and paladins as well. They'd likely send angels only in times of dire emergencies or when a physical presence is needed
Is Mana aware that when we get to Menzo, Sovis doesn't want to kill fellow Drow?
she wasnt until now, she will happily beat them to an inch of their lives
proficiency in insight should be enough. I take it Sovis wants to offer a new way out?
Sovis just wants to deal with the Matron mothers
gotchaa
Say, if an angel appeared centuries ago ago and saved a city, would it make sense for the angel to be absent for centuries until the next time he appears?
yeah
They're the reason Menzo is so strictly Lolth lmao
Yes
thats the typical M.O. of angels. Its rare if they need to stick around somewhere
I'm sure it'd take a Divine Being a lot of energy to appear in the material planes as well
Another thing I would point out is, while D&D lore is written one way, you can technically write angels and beings however you want in your own world
not every place is the Garden of Eden
but typically, ask yourself, is there a reason a god would want one of their servants there?
and does the angel think it did its job?
So are Aasimar angels?
If you cut off an angel's wings do they lose their power?
Aasimar have varying types of lore by edition, don't they?
So kind of divine beings but not
Genasi, Tieflings, and Aasimar, are just. People with a touch of otherworldly power
theyre still people with their own wills.
Not always, ive played a Kirin aasimar
Yeah, Aasimar are touched by a spark of divine power in some way. Maybe a child of a god, maybe blessed for some other reason, but still mortal
They are descendants of angels. But the Aasimar gene is recessive and it usually becomes visible after many generations. Most people who carry angel genes are not aasimar themselves so they don't even know it.
not all celestials are only angels.
If anyone has ever seen Avatar the Last Airbender, you could consider Yue an Aasimar
Jeez dnd lore is complicated
Do you think Sovis should've been a Redemption Paladin? 🤔
Yep, for a reason there is many editions, books, etc. etc.
Honeslty at some point I gave up on reading D&D lore and just started making stuff up for my worlds
honestly, yeah, if you didnt just play a genies paladin
Speaking of angels looking like typical angels, the wiki describes them as "spirits made of light" that often don't have legs. So, are there any angels that look like conventional angels? You know, very attractive humanoids with wings and a halo? And legs?
Ah, yes, Chadbal...
the official art still depicts them as your stereotypical angels
but its not limited to that. I like my wheels of eyes
Devas?
Wiki is not a accurate source of information.
Thank you, I won't be reading it again
"Devas are emissaries of divine will. These immortal messengers adopt the shapes of mystical beasts or idealized, winged mortals. As with all angels, their true forms are known only to the gods they serve."
Wait are angels called devas in D&D?
I can imagine plenty of Angelic beings would take a humanoid form to not break the minds of mortals
Angels aren't Devas but Devas are angels
From the 2014 Monster Manual: "Devas are Angels that act as divine messengers or agents to the Material Plane"
How many types of angels are there
Too damn many /Half-Joking
I don't know the exact number, but the 2014 monster manual has 3. Devas, Planetars, and Solars
Soooo is there anywhere I can read about it online orrrr... because again, the wiki is not up to date.
Not really any way to find accurate information outside of reading the actual books
OK thanks
Next question. Would it be possible to trap/imprison an angel?
Most definitely
You can always print the free D&D basic rules from WOTC, I know that they have some monsters listed, not sure if angels are included
what do we feel about Elf Warlocks
It's possible to trap demons and Devils, you can bound a Celestial
Pretty cool I guess
They're okay
My current warlock, Sovis Cova, Is a Dark Elf
He's a Celestial Warlock
I've never played a warlock before
My current character is one
She's a drow hexblade
okay this campaign has 1 very difficult rule... only one roll for each stat
0 rerolls, so there's a chance I have a warlock with 3 in everything
When you're making your character?
Ah, yes, our two very different and one in the same Drowlocks 🧐
Yeah, for ability scores
yeah the idea angel look like human with wings is a more recent era idea
The only classes I've played for more than a single session have been:
Fighter
Wizard
Cleric
Classes I've played for a single session:
Monk
Ranger
Paladin
So all your stats are the same number?
No, one roll per stat
My brother in Lolth leave that campaign as fast as you can you're gonna SUFFER
Is it good to start with ur first session as a roleplay or a heavy combat
What if I'm into that
That sounds unreasonably strict
Yeah, to be honest ... lol
I'm sure I'll get lucky
Or if you're into that play in it ig I can't tell you what to do
0 rerolls isn't super uncommon.
Though if you wind up with like 3 3s, the DM should override said rule
Oh my.
Depends on ur players but most players in my experience are going to want a combat to test out their cool builds/ abilities outta the gate.
I'm a player, not dm
You can say God dw I've said it like 5 times already when I was talking about D&D angels
Also an early combat can help establish the party dynamics, how each character handles conflict, and how they work together
It was the caps lock that was the problem
This would be my first session
See bro I told you LEAVE
As a DM?
And it says heavy combat
Ah, you're playing?
Player
You know...
I should be Cliche an do a Trickery Cleric of Mask one day, Mask is such a silly fellow 🧐
A rule this strict right from the start is a huge red flag for a campaign
He literally disguised himself as a Magic sword just to gaslight Cyric
Consider my duplicity…invoked
Apparently one of my players encountered a campaign where the first rule was that Aarakocras are banned
Fair. That race is busted.
That's also pretty common with flying species
I've never had any issues with it
Fairies, Aarokocra, Owlin..
Anything that can fly naturally is typically considered pretty strong
That's not unreasonably strict it's just 1 race. It's probably because they either don't fit into the worldbuilding or because the DM doesn't want new players to play a super difficult race. You know, for their sake.
Aarakockra is only an issue if the player actually tries to optimize it
THEN it can be game disruptive
I suppose it's also setting specific
But most players do not
with a campaign where most of combat takes place indoors, aarakocras become ineffective
I only bar certain species in my HB world, otherwise anything goes in other games
If anything I'd debate that Yuan-TI are probably the most busted race
Okay, the DM gave mercy, I can add +2 to all of them
Are you in a session right now?
Satyr imo
Hell.
cause Satyr get magic resistance and they count as Fey so they are immune to humanoid spells
Do you see why it took me so long to get an okay roll in our campaign
Planar binding
So 11, 11, 12, 12, 13, and 16
changeling are also fey anyway
Still, that rule was a HUGE red flag. I think this is a sign of more unreasonable things to come.
Chat how can I out word play a fae
nahh... we can upgrade our ability scores with souls, so I guess it's pretty balanced (as long as I dont go murder hobo)
what's this, fear and hunger campaign?
Scatman rap
do you use lesser souls too?
You can always count on being able to out beatbox a fey
I want to use my English degree to my advantage and try to beat the DM in linguistic utilization.
I was thinking Dark Souls campaign but holy horse you know peak
i'm adding flesh puppetry to my table soon because of a conversation here in the last hour
Rap the fast part of Rap God in double speed
it is dark souls
I can do rap god
Oh yes. Rap battle! I make a bard and challenge the fae to a rap battle.
Do some battle rapping infront of the local elf prince for entertainment.
Hold on I just an idea for a rapping fay oh my Goddd I'm adding this to my campaign
"She 6 on my 7 so I 8 her 9" 🗣🔥
I hate you for this lmao
Bars
Evren, how evil are you on a scale of 1-10
10, why?
Yeah I deserve to be arrested for this why did I write this
we love self-aware queens
Do you want to help me craft a homebrew (rare) magic item that's themed around my snake patron
No, I'm evil. Also I should go study. bye.
Full honesty, if you said yes I would've said "9/10, not evil"
"Your breathe stinks, the spawn of Shadowfell.
If I wanted to see fairy wings I wouldve called Tinker Bell!"
I do
race ya to #homebrew
I had Strahd call the party's cleric a "clerical error" once
Strahd finally decided to be a Bard
My Warlock and Strahd had a chess match while my party was fighting monsters once.. they got separated, I managed to beat him enough for the party to be able to not be so split up lmao (Strange shenanigans)
I don't know about you, but I think Hobgoblins remind me quite a bit of some depictions of Tengus.
Iirc hobgoblins come from Germanic mythology and mythologies around the world have certain patterns (like similar creatures)
Oni hits that a bit more for me
the freedom i have
And wonderful imagination
I'm new too
But i have a little experience of DnD
Mostly use DnD beyond
yoo
Sounds nice
I love that it's a game that has been able to become my full time job, I feed my children by rolling dice and telling amazing stories
Awesome
wow
I did not read the first part and was very confused
You will eat ze dice
🤣 lol
Would u consider this Game IS hard to understand or IS it pretty simple ?
It is simple when you understand how it's work. It might a bit hard at first, but it will become easy when adapt it
It's hard to understand in isolation but easy to pick up if you find a group that welcomes newcomers
I got my first players handbook in 2001 but never actually played in till 2021 because no one I knew played it, but then I found a public game and it was like magic
Are IRL Lobbys Happy to See new members ?
Like i have a bit social anxiety to Go to a Lobby and Just ASK to get integrated
and now you cook and serve dice for dinner
definitely
It depends, the shop I run My games at in person I am allways happy to see newcomers.
There is a lot of tables where the gates are shut though so you gotta look around for a welcoming spot
Yep, it's been wild
I quite like playing with new people tbh but it's a bit of a strange one as table size is limited and there are always people I would rather play with given the choice.
I've been hit with the realization im trying to turn my 2 game a week to 5
Nice!
How to make the First step ?
3 separate systems will be an undertaking
tho not really, one it only took me 5 minutes to learn
Gotta find a table that has open space for newcomers
Daggerheart will be the biggest undertaking
Experience usually, learn to play, find a group, fall in love with dnd, have your first character death, scheduling issues makes the campaign get cancelled, rinse and repeat
Daggerheart was ok, made me just want to play more dnd though
ii like the dragons. dragons r pretty cool
for a game with "dungeons" and "dragons" in the name I haven't encountered either of those
That's a darn shame, gotta have both or you are just playing &
Everything is a dungeon, it just looks like a pirate ship, or an arcane library, or an airship, or a cutsey bakery with sinister gingerbread men
I like &, & has been nice to me
might as well call the game Taverns and Terrasques
i have ran 5 dragon battles this week alone, making up for all the lacks of them out there
The first dungeon I wrote for my big Spelljammer campaign was populated exclusively by dragons, both friendly and enemy
young blue on sunday, ancient brass last night, Ancient red on friday. oh wait just 3 this week
well... time to get two more dragons into the next session
Final boss used the Ender Dragon statblock, and the big reward was a sword possessed by the psychic imprint of a dragon
nice!
I hope i get to use a hostile dragon in my monday game soon
Figured after 6 years of GMing that I should have at least one dungeoned dragon, so why not several dozen?
Faerie dragon in my game tomorrow, not sure if that counts. 😅
Dragon delves was a step in the right direction for more easily accessable dungeons with dragons in them
and the Spirit dragon and deep dragons from the Forgoten realms books have been fantastic so far too
Dungeons with Dragons? I asked for dragons on the side! how am I supposed to play this now
The new monster art in general is pretty great.
What if the dungeon is a dragon that contains a dragon with another dungeon inside
Dungeons in dragons in dungeons in dragons?
Today I'm running dragon free one shot, and a session of tyrrany of Dragons tonight so there will be more tonight
I ran a one shot once where the party helped an ancient dragon deal with some stomach ache by going inside it, finding a part of a castle (which was actually a mimic), and one of them drank a potion of dragon form (or whatever the name was) to become a dragon in a dungeon in a dragon 😏
yes
its dragons and dungeons all the way down
jokes aside, I do appreciate that all the 5e starter sets feature both dragons and dungeons, even if the dragons are not always inside them
Dungeons and dragons is an interesting name because many campaigns dont have either
You know, I don't get people who only play one class
I understand it's something you really like, but the Whimsy of trying something new...
They are designed for new players and DMs to help learn the game, but I think so
Hello everyone
Salutations
Hello Adventurer, what brings you here?
I'd like to get in to dnd, but I dont know how, soo I decided join discord :D
isn't it liberating
Hello chat o/
howdy
daily reminder that eldritch blast >>>>>>>>>>>>>
is roll20 down?
what edition are you looking for? 0e, basic/expert, 1e, 2e, 3e, 3.5e, 4e, 5e 2014, 5e 2024
i just got removed mid sesh
dang what happend?
seems like it
I finished my first ever irl dnd session as the DM today🥲🥲
This shit is peak, i made them fight an Otyhug and an Oni

I haven't played dnd in a few years but I want to get into it again so I joined the discord server
uhh
what's the difference?
the rules settings
I'd look for 5e 2024
ah cool the latest release
what's the biggest difference between previous 5e and 2024 edition?
Not much tbh and they are both still fifth edition
a bunch of rule and class changes
I see I see. I haven't played in a hot minute so I wanted to knwo if there was anything massive mechanics wise
Ability scores are increased by background, not species now
It's a lot of quality of life changes mostly and some adjustments as well as classes being overall stronger while monsters also got a boost
I see I see
That's good, I'll have to read up on them :)
Are there online alternatives to Roll20 that y'all like to use or is that the quintessential online platform for dnd
I have a campaign on roll20 and one in person that I switch between every sat
I've heard other people use owlbear and dndbeyond
Also some use foundry
I want to get into DMing eventually so i’ll definitely look into these
I’d like to try DMing a oneshot or two after attending some local DM training
There isn't really a singular best one to use, people prefer different ones for different reasons
I really like Maps on DDB even though I only play Play by Post XD
As a UI designer I think Roll20s interface could use some small improvements but it’s pretty intuitive
I really wanted to enjoy Maps, but it's still missing some fairly obvious qol features like custom tokens.
I use foundry when I and my players want mechanical depth and Owlbear when it's a more off the cuff game.
my DM changed from Roll20 to DnD Beyond because of some technical difficulties at first
I'm not a fan of DDB's UI honestly, both myself and multiple players I've had struggled with it, and I personally find Roll20 smoother
What I will say in favor of DDB maps is that it and owlbear are the only vtts that are useable on mobile without hassle.
I'm remaking my ui design master’s thesis eventually when I have time and my focus is the creation of a dnd platform
Roll20 has been adding nice QoL features that feel needed, and it’s much easier for folks to hop into
Foundry
foundry imo is just the single best VTT for systems that use a grid
One of my dms prefers foundry, and it’s very nice, but very complex
in return it is very modular and has so much community support
it handles alot of systems too
I would say it’s now my preference, but I’m not complaining if I get to play in other systems too
The UI though is not very intuitive and it requires a lot of attachments to make it work
More dnd will always be fun, no matter the vtt I use
i just think there is no reason to use Roll20 when Foundry exists as the premium option, and if you don't need a powerful VTT then Owlbear exists
i just don't think Roll20 has much of a use case or has anything unique to offer when those two exist
Exactly, one campaign I was in, the map was just one wooden board...
Roll20 is a lot more intuitive and easier to understand than Foundry
i have a question, does anyone know where or how to find a 16+ friendly party? me and my bf are 16 n 17 and it's been hard to find a party that could have us as players since we are minors and its getting a bit frustrating
the only redeeming quality for Roll20 imo is that it has better Fate sheets. that's kinda it
I’ve been invited to an ffxiv homebrew and a Pokemon homebrew that'll be on Roll20 that I have to consider, I'm sad both can't be in person even though both are local
Dumb question but do dark elves in D&D have black scleras like in Skyrim?
there are a lot in #looking-for-players, most are 18+ but some of them give leeway
The best place will always be #looking-for-players , aslternatively for in person you could see if your school runs a D&D group, or local game stores
Guess I just... Echoed your words
I don’t think so? I’m not sure if drow do or not
I think they can range through a few colors
i don't recall if they have black sclera like the dunmer
nope they do not
Not really, no.
Thanks guys
They mostly have brighter eyes, red irises I think are common for them
the problem is that in my country most game stores are filled with just 18+ tables and is not too usual at least in my country/school, i am having trouble finding 16+ games that are not filled in already TT
thanks for the advice tho
Yes they are I checked
One of you could possibly start your own group if either of you want to DM
I’m running a Castlevania inspired campaign, and for Session 0 I’m planning to introduce the players while they’re all at a festival. In the middle of it, Dracula sends his night creatures to massacre the world, starting with that city. Session 0 would end there, and Session 1 would pick up with a chase scene and the aftermath. Thoughts?
Pretty cool that the first real scene is them fleeing from monsters
could also make for some interesting combat
ya that would be in sesh 1
This is the second long- sh campaign ive runned . I just wanted to see if there’s anything I should do beforehand or maybe change up so it runs smoother and doesn’t fall apart halfway through.
definitely sounds engaging
thxx
inspiring, i could do something like that
we discussed it during session 1, we would leave Karagon or Gan behind to get eaten
your compassion for your teammates bring tears to my eyes
When I first met Gan he was straight out of the sewers
Yes, but it's worth remembering that D&D took a lot of creative liberties with goblinoids, since they didn't have a fixed description before.
my one-on-one with Grudge was cool though... maybe I should go one-on-one with the others... 🤔
That’s true although I believe they took a lot from lotr as well
desecrated crypts hell yeah
i am not looking forward to roleplaying the head though
fun character, but my attention is split between so many people
dming is hard
But I'm mainly talking about appearance, since the Hobgoblins in D&D have red skin and wear those samurai-like outfits, with the characteristics that goblins generally use, like a long nose and ears
oh come on! we have such a diverse cast! we have... dragonborn dragonborn kobold... two humans... and me
...we have humans?
Grudge is a human aint he
that's one human, three dragonborn, one kobold
The diversity hire human
Huh they might’ve been based on tengu then
Also wait are Dragonborn’s really that popular?
they're not popular, i just play with scalies
Ooooooh
iirc among the less played races in bg3 too
I said to myself I'd play a dragonborn rogue next... I ended up making an Elf Warlock and a Human Artificer before it...
I'm finally gonna get to play a genie paladin, and he will be a human (I considered genasi but I like human a little more for this)]
is there a term for the opposite of optimization? like making a character as weak as possible?
bad idea?
I've got a player who constantly plays animal creatures, mostly aarakocra
minimization maybe?
ah, one of my people
I'm lazy and just like the humanoid races like elves, aasimar, humans and tieflings
so far i have two dragonborn, one half-dragon(practically dragonborn with a tail), a minotaur
I've played multiple aasimar, a couple humans and a half elf so far
My current character is a changeling. The one before that was a Firbolg
I've found my people
My favorite human I played was a completely armored knight who's face no one had seen since he was a kid, so they weren't even sure what race he was until he took off his armor
is this Grudge
I'm playing a changeling divination wizard
Changeling Bard baby let's go
uh, it was more meant to symbolize his obsession with giants, so he tried to mimic them by becoming a rune knight, well that and the fact that 90% of his body was covered in burn scars
so it was just easier to hide his appearance and look like a knight
that msg was aimed at me, grudge is our human fighter, and yes, yes it's him
but that's a cool character
very interesting backstory
I did enjoy it, he was a bit older and acted like the dad of the group, since he'd been raised by his village
Then he met a harengon and they became best friends
Hello
Hello
I'm kinda new to DND anything I need to know?
#dnd-newcomers is a good place to start
Oh ok👍
I wanna join a DND group in my area but I'm kinda worried that it will be just people older then me
Any tips??
Check the group before hand. Communicate with the hosters. If you’re uncomfortable then don’t do it
A lot of games will have a "Session Zero" these days (it's listed out in the DMG). It's kind of your pre-get-together to understand the game, what everyone is hoping to get out of it, and some other things (depending on the group). That's a good chance to see if there's a big age gap and if that'll end up being a problem. ✌️
if you in uni or highschool you can try joining their local clubs
Guys I just really had a incredible idea
I'm making a campaign and uh
What if the language of the celestials... was Dutch. Like yeah it's supposed to be celestial but when they see like uhh a celestial and they're speaking celestial they hear Dutch
Uhh I don't know if it's 1 campaign uhh there is a word for that I swear
If it is 1 campaign what do I do
Finnish angels
some people use their native language when talking in another language the rest of the party can't comprehend, so I think that'd work
it's pretty common practice to use real languages in place of non-common ones
Its referred to as a one shot
No Dutch is funnier because it's very closely related to English and so it sounds like they're speaking English wrong and that makes it funny
"wir hebben een serious problem"
Yeah thing is I'm not Dutch
